''Creation'' is a 2009 British biographical drama film. Produced by Jeremy Thomas, the film was directed by Jon Amiel, and stars Creator/PaulBettany and Creator/JenniferConnelly as Charles and Emma Darwin (themselves married in RealLife). John Collee wrote the script based on Randal Keynes' biography of Darwin, titled ''Annie's Box''.

The film is a partly biographical, partly fictionalised account of CharlesDarwin's relationship with his eldest daughter, Annie (Martha West), as he struggles to write ''On the Origin of Species''.
* {{Adorkable}}: Paul Bettany as the socially awkward Charles Darwin.

* CastingGag: Paul Bettany's role in this film is likely a reference to his previous role as Dr. Stephen Maturin in ''Film/MasterAndCommander''. In that film, he plays a ship's doctor in the 19th century who [[http://media.aintitcool.com/media/uploads/2013/bettany.jpg bears a rather striking resemblance to Charles Darwin]], and even spends an extended sequence researching animal specimens in the Galapagos Islands. In this film, he actually ''is'' Charles Darwin.

* FemaleAngelMaleDemon: Emma keeps her faith, whereas Charles loses his, and it is portrayed with hellish imagery [[spoiler: during his breakdown]].
* InfantImmortality: [[spoiler:Subverted. Twice. Causes HeroicBSOD for Darwin.]]
* KissingCousins: Charles and Emma are cousins, and take offense when a friend (unknowingly) makes a joke of it. [[spoiler: Charles later wonders if being related led to Annie being too weak.]]
%%* MadScientist: Sympathetic version.
* ParentalFavoritism: Charles seems to be most connected to Annie.
* SexlessMarriage: [[spoiler:After the death of Annie.]]
* ShownTheirWork: (also a FreezeFrameBonus) Look closely at the contents of the trunk in Darwin's office. [[http://darwin-online.org.uk/content/frameset?viewtype=side&itemID=CUL-DAR121.-&pageseq=38 One of the papers is an actual page from one of the (many) notebooks he filled during his life.]]
* SpiritedYoungLady: Annie is a younger version.
