What is Tamers Requiem?

Well, it's a truly good series of Fanfics by [=CrazyEight=] that can be found on Fanfiction.net and a continuation of Anime/{{Digimon Tamers}}.

[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3506746/1/Tamers_Requiem_Book_1_Hazards_Sorrow Book 1: Hazard's Sorrow]] involves a digimon named Lucemon emerging from the digital world to kill Guilmon, and he does. In the mean time, he's trapped in the human world badly injured and is taken in by a girl and her family. Eventually, Takato, out of grief attempts to ressurect Guilmon. It doesn't turn out as planned.

[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3810153/1/Tamers_Requiem_Book_2_A_Time_to_Heal Book 2: A Time to Heal]] is merely a four chapter thinking piece and a teaser for [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3824684/1/Tamers_Requiem_Book_3_Less_than_Human Book 3: Less than Human]], where the plot really comes forward. It also gets into {{Crossover}} territory with at least one other season and a movie.

[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5818570/1/Tamers_Requiem_Book_4_Revival Book 4: Revival]] and [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6494452/1/Tamers_Requiem_Book_5_Return_of_Shadows Book 5: Rise of Shadows]] take place several years later with a new menace coming forth in the form of a character named Prometheus, whose plans are rather sketchy.

There are also a few shorter stories for the series that fill in a few blanks, but aren't completely necessary to understand the storyline. These include [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4011606/1/Tamers_Requiem_Moonlight_Lullaby Moonlight Lullaby]] (set between Book 1 and Book 2), [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3981110/1/Tamers_Requiem_Resting Resting]] and [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4740910/1/Tamers_Requiem_Seasons_Bonds Season's Bonds]], [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/7836786/1/Tamers_Requiem_A_Knights_Heart A Knight's Heart]], and [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5653868/1/Tamers_Requiem_Twists_of_Fate_Prelude_to_Revival Twists of Fate, Prelude to Revival]] (set between Book 3 and Book 4), and [[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6570009/1/Tamers_Requiem_Book_0_Toys_Snowmen_and_Digimon Book 0: Toys, Snowmen, and Digimon]] (a holiday prequel to Requiem that is set after the television show, but before Book 1).

!!''Tamers Requiem'' contains examples of:
* {{Adults Are Useless}}: Somewhat subverted. While the tamers will be the ones generally to save the day, Hypnos and the Monster Makers are actually fairly helpful at different points.
* {{And Call Him George}}: [[spoiler: Poor Dracmon's first meeting with his future partner involved a painfully tight hug that knocked him out and gaining the nickname "Beanie"]].
* {{Ascended Extra}}: Miki and Ayaka get this treatment.
* AsianFoxSpirit: Renamon, all her various forms, and [[spoiler: a whole village of mystical fox digimon visited in Book Three]].
* AttackAnimal: Digimon quailify. And some of the people outside the main characters see them ONLY as this or as a threat to all humanity. Those people are the ones to watch out for.
* BatmanGambit and EvilPlan: These seems to be Prometheus' specialty, though Oni seemed to do a reasonable job at this as well.
* BetaTestBaddie: [[spoiler:[=BlackGuilmon=] becomes this after becoming more intelligent, seeking Takato in order to merge with him and become complete.]]
* {{Big Bad}}: Lucemon in Book 1
** [[spoiler: Oni]] in Book 3
** Prometheus in Books 4 and 5
* {{Break the Cutie}}: They seemed to love this trope even in Anime/{{Digimon Tamers}} (just ask Jeri if you don't believe me). Top five examples in Requiem include:
** Takato- [[spoiler: Watches Guilmon die IN THE FIRST BOOK; tries to recreate him, but ends up with a crazed [=BlackGuilmon=] instead; eventually gets killed himself near the end of Book Three and is split in to two separate kids, one of whom spends several years stuck in the Dark Ocean/Dark Area]].
** Noriko- [[spoiler: Just start from the moment where she is sucked into the Digital World (without a partner), gets combined with Lucemon and [=BlackGuilmon=], and proceed from there]].
** Impmon- [[spoiler: When trying to make things right with Jeri, he learns that they can't extract Leomon's data from him (and give the girl back her partner) without killing the rookie (which they won't do, which does little to help his guilt). Not long after that, he gets infected with the X-Program, which is supposed to kill off most of the digimon. And, from the description, it is not a pleasant way to go]].
** Jeri- [[spoiler:Discovers she's still carrying a fragment of the D-Reaper, and is {{Mind Rape}}d by [=UlforceVeemon=] to get at it. Oh yeah, and did we mention that Milleniummon is using her to resurrect himself?]]
** Suzie- [[spoiler: Done very deliberately by Prometheus in an attempt to have her Dark Digivolve Lopmon (and it worked by the end of Book Four). He throws everything at her from schoolyard bully, to an evil therapist, to a nightmare-inducing digimon in order to drag up any doubts or fears she might have. This is the clearest example of Break the Cutie you can have]].
* {{Came Back Wrong}}: [[spoiler: [=BlackGuilmon=]]]... twice!
** CameBackStrong: [[spoiler:Normal Guilmon, on the other hand, is patched with the X Antibody in order to rebuild him fully. After that, his Ultimate Form is quite capable of standing up to ''Royal Knights''.]]
* {{Christmas Episode}}: Both "Season's Bonds" and "Toys, Snowmen, and Digimon" qualify as this.
* {{Continuation}}: Of Digimon Tamers
* {{Continuity Nod}}: There are plenty of reference to events in the show, ranging from major events to individual lines. This is especially noticable when [[spoiler: Guilmon is slowly regaining his memory]].
* {{Crossover}}: The author manages to cross Digimon Tamers over with [[spoiler: not only Anime/{{Digimon Frontier}} and Anime/DigimonDataSquad, but also Anime/{{Digimon X Evolution}}.]]
* {{Darker and Edgier}}: Just as Anime/{{Digimon Tamers}} was considered this in regards to the earlier installments of the franchise, Tamers Requiem manages to take it even further while still remaining true to the spirit of the series. When one of the main characters dies early in the first book and sends his partner into a state of desperate depression as a result, you know that anything can go.
* {{Doorstopper}}: The third book in the series is 1,116,371 words long.
* {{Dream Weaver}}: In Book Four, Suzie experiences this.
* {{Embarrassing Nickname}}: "Beanie"
* {{Emergency Transformation}}: This is how [[spoiler: Lumemon]] was created.
* EpiphanicPrison: [[spoiler:Impmon gets lost in one when he's driven delirious by the X virus.]]
* {{Evolving Weapon}}: Kind of the entire concept of digimon... And they continue the tradition awesomely.
* {{Fallen Hero}}: Oni [[spoiler: was an innocent digignome driven insane by the memories of a child's death during the D-Reaper events.]]
* {{Heel Face Turn}}: [[spoiler: Both Dracmon and Crusadermon in Book 3. Also, Lucemon.]]
** HeelFaceMindScrew: [[spoiler:Downplayed and justified-being made a Tamer partner forces Crusadermon to feel empathy for the first time, and it takes a while before she decided GoodFeelsGood.]]
* {{I Want My Beloved To Be Happy}} [[spoiler:Rika]] and [[spoiler:Jeri]] both try this in Book 3. [[spoiler:Jeri]] beat [[spoiler:Rika]] to the punch though.
* KnightTemplar: Lucemon [[spoiler:at first]].
* {{Manipulative Bastard}}: [[spoiler:Prometheus]] is this in spades. Here's his list of offenses...
** [[spoiler:Having Maelstrom possess Atsuo so he can bully Suzie and then wiping the boys memories of the event. This leaves the boy to take the flak for the bulling. This then increases his rage towards Suzie, which Daemon takes and uses to become a Super Ultimate.]]
** [[spoiler:Having a Bakumon force Suzie to have nightmares about her losing Lopmon and making the other tamers treat her like she's a dead weight.]]
** [[spoiler:His worst offense, he doesn't mind if the tamers come close to death during his plans.]]
* MeleeATrois: What happens during the second fight with the Royal Knights. [[spoiler:First it's just Beelzemon and the Tamers minus Takato fighting, then Miki and [[DarkIsNotEvil Dracmon]] Biomerge into Lilithmon, then [[NonMaliciousMonster the Hazard Seal]] joins in and starts making trouble, then [=ChaosGallantmon=] shows up, then [[HeroAntagonist Kuroda]] activates [[SwirlyEnergyThingy Juggernaut]]...]]
* {{Mysterious Past}}: Ryo, would you like to discuss the whole "Milleniummon" thing with anyone BEFORE he starts getting involved in everyone's lives? No?
* {{Nice Job Breaking It Hero}}: Where to start?
** Because Lucemon killed Guilmon, Takato tried to bring his friend back by rescanning the original picture. Only problem is that instead of the naive, sweet, bread-loving reptile, he ended up with [[spoiler: an aggressive, animalistic [=BlackGuilmon=] who goes on a rampage, digivolving and attacking as he goes]].
** Or we could consider how the fight between Beelzemon and Megidramon in Anime/{{Digimon Tamers}} [[spoiler: and the Hazard activating during the battle is what caught Lucemon's attention and led to Guilmon's death in the first place]].
** Even creating Guilmon in the first place seemed to have a few unexpected side effects. The Digi-Gnomes had to get the data they used to make him ( [[spoiler: including the Hazard]] ) from somewhere. They just chose a very unwise source. Cue mindless, X-program zapping, nightmare showing up in the park.
** Rika... She tries to break [[spoiler: her new telepathic connection to Takato in her mega form, but ended up sending herself, Takato, Ryo, and their partners into the Digital World. Oops]].
** More recently, we have [[spoiler: Marcus drinking from the Dark Ocean. He essentially broke his ability to help his partner digivolve without turning into a mindless monster]].
* {{Oh Crap}} [[spoiler:Daemon Stage: Super Ultimate, Type: Virus, Special Attacks: Algol's Flame, Dark Spreader]] --> Ayaka: Oh shit.
* {{Original Character}}: Noriko, but she doesn't steal the show away from the canon characters.
* [[spoiler: OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: More like "[=WereBlackGuilmon=]", but Noriko basically becomes one after Biomerging with Lucemon and the original [=BlackGuilmon=]. [[WhatHaveIBecome She doesn't take the news very well]].]]
* OutsideContextProblem: [[spoiler: Maelstrom at the end of book 3.]]
* PsychicLink: There was already demonstrated to be a mental link between Rika and Renamon in the show, but another one is later formed between [[spoiler: Rika and Takato]].
* ThePlague: The X-Program.
* SympatheticPOV: Most of the villains get one.
* ThinkHappyThoughts: How Jeri was able to beat [[spoiler:J-Reaper]].
** It's also how the Tamers were able to finally beat [[spoiler:Oni]].
* ThereAreNoTherapists: Subverted. Hypnos does have a therapist talk to the tamers in Book Four to see if their unique situation is affecting their minds, [[spoiler: but that isn't necessary a good thing for them since he actually works with Prometheus, is trying to make things worse for Suzie especially, and isn't actually human]].
* WeDoTheImpossible: After all of the events from the show and Requiem, the tamers and their partners definitely qualify.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Just about every villain in the series.
* WorldBuilding: More than you can imagine.
