''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6328454/1/Marie_D_Suesse_And_The_Mystery_New_Pirate_Age Marie D. Suesse And The Mystery New Pirate Age!]]'' is a ''OnePiece'' fanfic DeconstructionFic by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/388836/Phalanx Phalanx]] that was completed on 19th December 2012.

Self-described as ''"A very different take on the typical OC-falls-into-OP story, deconstructed with a macabre twist"''.

The story follows the character's adventures after falling into the OnePiece world. It also derails the format of the typical SelfInsert story right at the beginning by bringing Mar's parents along for the ride and having her end up alone on the Straw-Hat's deserted ship.

What ensues is a darkly humorous story that deconstructs the hell out of almost every fanfic cliche, all the while building a suspenseful mystery over the fate of the Straw-Hats.

Some parts can be quite disturbing.

!!This fanfic provides examples of:

* AbusiveParents: Mentioned as one of the most overused MarySue cliches intended to inspire sympathy, and Slashfang and Hana are said to have them. Mar's parents, however, [[ParentsAsPeople while far from perfect, are not abusive]].
* AdultFear: Toward the end, [[spoiler:it is revealed that the tragic events that occurred for the last 20 years in the OnePiece world can be undone, but if Madelyn never ate her Devil Fruit, she would never have made the mistake of causing Luffy's execution, fled to the "real world," changed her name to Blake, met Garreth and had Marie. Not only are Garreth and Madelyn/Blake aware that they'll never see each other or their daughter again, but Marie realizes that she'll be erased from existence entirely, and feels as though her existence was a mistake]].
* AdultsAreUseless: Defied with a vengeance. Almost every capable character in the story is an adult. And the only one who isn't is pretty much TheLoad.
* AllFlyersAreBirds: Discussed. As one character found out the hard way, flying foxes are not birds.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: [[spoiler:The Suesse family, when they realize that the wish that will return the world to normal will undo Blake and Garreth's marriage and Mar's existence]].
* BadFuture: [[spoiler: Luffy has been executed, the Straw-Hats disappeared without a trace, and their allies are all either captured or dead. Oh, and the world is overrun with Sues.]]
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: A key part of the {{Deconstruction}}, as well as a proper caution for dealing with [[spoiler:Madelyn's powers]].
** Two instances of this have a significant impact on the plot. [[spoiler:Law's wishing that Madelyn would get away from him results in Madelyn being transported to the real world, and Mar's wish to be free results in her family being pulled into the One Piece world]].
* BeQuietNudge: The Disinfector gives Mar one when she denies being captain of the Thousand Sunny, to indicate that she should play along with his story.
* BlackHoleSue: [[invoked]] Monkey D. Madelyn, Luffy's 'sister' and Law's lover and co-leader of the Heart Pirates and and and...
** Let's not forget she's also has the world's highest bounty of 666 million and goes by the title of "The Pirate Queen".
* [[spoiler: BittersweetEnding: The world is put right, thanks to the Suesse's wishes, but Mar is [[RetGone wished]] out of existence as a consequence.]]
* BookEnds: The story begins with a dinner in the Suesse household, with Blake and Garreth arguing. The story ends with a dinner in the Suesse household, [[spoiler:in which Garreth is eating alone]].
* ChekhovsHobby: Mr. Suesse's life experience of being trained as a locksmith and then working a security consultant really came in handy.
* ComicallyMissingThePoint: Mr. Suesse's reaction to a long and dramatic flashback explaining how [[spoiler:his wife Blake is actually the main villain Monkey D. Madelyn]].
-->'''[[spoiler:Trafalgar Law]]''': "Did you get all that, Suesse?"
-->'''Mr. Suesse''': "Yeah... [[spoiler:You're my wife's ex]]".
-->'''[[spoiler:Trafalgar Law]]''': [[SarcasmMode "I can see you focused on the important details."]]
* TheComicallySerious: The Disinfector and Gurnarde both have their moments.
* ContrivedCoincidence: Early on in the story, Mar discovers that she looks exactly like Monkey D. Madelyn did 20 years ago. Much to her annoyance, she is constantly mistaken for the infamous Pirate Queen in-story as a result.
** In Chapter 27, Mar learns that her mother [[spoiler:is the spitting image of St. Magda, aka Madelyn]].
** [[spoiler:Subverted; there's a good reason for all of the above. It's even lampshaded in Chapter 31.]]
* DarkActionGirl: Gurnarde, BloodKnight serial killer mermaid.
* DarkFic: The author really wasn't kidding about the "macabre".
* DeadGuyJunior: [[spoiler:Mar the kitten, or rather, "Written Out of Reality Guy Junior"]].
* DidntThinkThisThrough: Mar's reaction after she distracts the extremely powerful Admiral Imba [[spoiler: from killing the Disinfector]]
* DiscontinuityNod: A variety pops up in the final chapter [[spoiler:as various characters make references to what happened in the fic after the world goes back to normal, such as some drunken marines discussing what Smoker's child would look like]]
* DrivingQuestion: ''"Why is The Thousand Sunny deserted? What happened to the crew? And how are the Heart Pirates involved?"''
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: It's implied that Smoker and Hina were killed when their ship's engine exploded.
* [[spoiler: DwindlingParty: The fate of the Straw-Hats and their rescue attempts. The same happens to Mar's crew on their raid on St. Magnus's mansion.]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Zig-zagged with Madelyn; it's unclear how much she really cared for [[spoiler:Trafalgar Law]], but [[spoiler:she does genuinely care for her husband and daughter enough to ask Law to take her and spare them]].
* EvilParentsWantGoodKids: [[spoiler:Marie's mother wanted to make sure that she turns out better than she did]]
* TheFaceless: The Disinfector is never seen without his hazard suit, [[spoiler: until Chapter 21 where he is [[TheReveal revealed]] to be Trafalgar Law]]
* FiveManBand
** TheHero: The Disinfector
** TheLancer: Gurnarde
** TheSmartGuy: Mr. Suesse
** TheBigGuy: Walker
** TheChick: Mar
*** TeamPet: The ''Thousand Sunny'', sentient ghost ship who also doubles as their main mode of transport.
* FullNameUltimatum: Mr. Suesse yells this at Mar when she doubts whether he intends to find her mother.
* GhostShip: The ''Thousand Sunny'' turns up as one.
* HeroicBSOD:
** Mar goes into one when she realizes [[spoiler: she fell into the world 20 years after Luffy's death by execution.]]
** Mr. Suesse also gets one when Mar tells him they've fallen into a fictional world based on one of her manga comics.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Admiral Imba pretty much had the crew on the ropes when he got greedy and decided to [[spoiler: copy Mar's Logic-Logic powers]]. Boy, did that decision backfire spectacularly.
* LaughingMad:
** Mr. Suesse's HeroicBSOD starts off this way.
** [[spoiler: Also used disturbingly in a flashback. Trafalgar Law, The Surgeon of Death, breaks down laughing at the irony his RedBaron when he fails a critical operation and kills his patient. It also marks the beginning of his personality shift into The Disinfector.]]
* INeedToGoIronMyDog: [[spoiler:Law leaves the Suesse family to spend their final minutes together in privacy]] under the pretext of going to look for Gurnade.
* LemonyNarrator: Who also happens to be a bit of a FirstPersonSmartass.
* LittleNo: [[spoiler:Law says this when Mar's mother/Madelyn asks him to take his revenge on her and spare her husband and daughter. He clarifies that her death isn't enough, and wants her to undo what she did]].
* [[spoiler:LukeIAmYourFather]]: Chapters 30 and 31 reveal that [[spoiler:Madelyn is actually Mar's mother]].
** Played with when Mar realizes that [[spoiler:Trafalgar Law]] could very well be her biological father. Then she does the math and deduces it's not possible.
* MarySue: The entire story revolves around the idea that one of these messed up the OnePiece world. [[invoked]]
* MeaningfulName[=/=]PunnyName: The author ''loves'' these
** [[MarySue Marie D. Suesse]] [[invoked]]
** [[GaryStu Garreth Stuart Suesse]] [[invoked]]
** [[GodModeSue Lance D. Imba]] [[invoked]]
** [[BlackHoleSue Blake Hoseau]] [[invoked]]
* MakeAWish: [[spoiler: Madelyn's powers allow her to grant wishes, often without the wisher (or sometimes Madelyn herself) realizing this, once per person]].
* MarySueHunter: The Disinfector is introduced as one.
* MamaBear: Mrs. Suesse will do whatever it takes to protect her child. [[spoiler: That includes impersonating a Tenryuubito (or so we think at the time), or shooting a mind-controlled ally in the head.]]
* MayDecemberRomance: Subverted. Mar clearly finds the at least 20 years older [[spoiler: Trafalgar Law]] attractive until she realises that he's likely around the same age as her father. {{Squick}} ensues.
* MoreThanMindControl: [[spoiler:Squall claims to have been ''happy'' in Madelyn's thrall, and exploits her power to ensure he can stay that way.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Madelyn's horrified when her power gets exploited to nearly kill the man she claims to love.]]
** Additionally, [[spoiler:she only intended for Luffy's capture to delay the Straw Hats]].
* NarratorAllAlong: Although it is never explicitly stated, the identity of the LemonyNarrator can be deduced from in the final line of the final chapter. [[spoiler: It's The Disinfector]]
* NarrativeProfanityFilter: It's something of a running joke that the narrator is forced to to do this because the author wants to avoid raising the rating of the fic.
* NobleBigot: Gurnarde has some very unfavorable views of humans in general. She gets better about it later.
* OriginalCharacter: Loads of them. Some are one-off [[ParodySue Parody Sues]], but the fic deliberately makes a point of using only OriginalCharacters to tell the story, although the author believe original characters should only be used when necessary. [[invoked]]
** [[spoiler: Well, until Chapter 21 anyway]]
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: They're bloodthirsty serial killers.
* PapaWolf: Don't threaten Mar in front of Mr. Suesse. It's a very bad idea.
* ParentalSubstitute: A flashback indicates that [[spoiler:Denise was one to Madelyn]].
* ParentsAsPeople: Mar's parents care for her, but their troubled marriage interferes with how well they do as parents.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler:Law leaving the room to allow the Suesse family time to say goodbye to each other in private]].
* PowerCopying: Admiral Imba has the power of the Copy-Copy fruit.
* PuffOfLogic: As a power!
* PunctuatedForEmphasis
-->'''Madelyn''': ''[[spoiler:[[MyGodWhatHaveIDone Luffy. Is. Dead]]!]]''
** Later in that same chapter, [[spoiler:Law]] says ''"They. Are. All. Dead!"''
* RealityEnsues: At many points, particularly in how it is emphasized that it is very dangerous for Mar and her family to be thrust into the One Piece world with little in the way of powers to defend themselves.
* ResetButtonEnding: The concept of which is painfully deconstructed. [[spoiler:Specifically, while many terrible things happened in the 20 years after Madelyn ate her Devil Fruit, so did Garreth meeting her and them having Mar together, both of which will also be undone]].
* RescueRomance: {{Averted}}; [[spoiler:the Disinfector]] makes it ''VERY'' clear he's only keeping Mar alive to suit his own ends.
* [[spoiler:RetGone]]: [[spoiler:Mar realizes she will suffer this fate if Garreth wishes that Blake/Madelyn had never eaten the Devil Fruit, resulting in her never going to the real world, marrying him or having Mar]].
* RuthlessModernPirates: Mr. Suesse mistakes his first encounter with pirates for pirates from Somalia. He is mistaken.
* ShoutOut[=/=]TakeThat:
** Mar derisively calls a marine captain who has bone-based devil fruit powers "[[{{Naruto}} Kimimaro]]"
** Admiral Imba is described as looking like the twin of a certain pretty white-haired boy from [[Manga/{{Bleach}} another manga series]].
* SnicketWarningLabel: See the page quote above.
* SpeakIllOfTheDead: Marie discovers three graves; though one is mostly untouched, the middle has been destroyed to the point no sign of who it stands for remains, and the last's epitath is partly destroyed, along with [[spoiler:one of its blades stolen]].
* StoryBreakerPower: Monkey D. Madelyn is heavily implied to have one, but its true nature isn't revealed until Chapter 22: [[spoiler:she can literally make dreams come true]].
** [[spoiler:In Chapter 31 it's revealed her power is a version of the Human-Human fruit which allows her to turn into a faerie with the ability to charm people and grant their wishes... without those people knowing she's doing it.]]
* SurvivorGuilt: Seen among the survivors of [[spoiler:the attempt to save Luffy]], particularly [[spoiler:Sogeking]].
* TakeMeInstead: In Chapter 31, [[spoiler:Madelyn]] pleads with Law to be satisfied with [[spoiler:taking revenge on her, sparing her loved ones]]. Law [[spoiler:refuses, saying that Madelyn shouldn't think that her death is enough to make up for her actions, and wants her to instead wish the world back to the way it was]].
* ThatManIsDead: Invoked and discussed. Mar uses this trope to guess the true identity of The Disinfector, citing ''Literature/TheCountOfMonteCristo'' as her example.
** And then subverted later when it turns out [[WrongGenreSavvy her guess was a bit off]].
* ThatWasTheLastEntry: Robin's ApocalypticLog in chapter 7.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: In Chapter 23's {{Flashback}}s, one gets delivered to Monkey D. Madelyn, brutally shutting down her claims that [[spoiler:she only wanted to make Law ''happy'']].
** Again in Chapter 31.
-->'''[[spoiler:Trafalgar Law]]''': "''Mistakes''? The world doesn't exist as a testing ground for your mistakes so you could learn how to be a halfway-decent human being, Madelyn! [[spoiler:Straw-Hat Luffy! Bepo! Jean Bart! Penguin... (lists the rest of the Straw Hat and Heart Pirates]]...they weren't 'mistakes'! Those were real lives, Madelyn. They were people! And because of your actions: ''[[PunctuatedForEmphasis They. Are. All. Dead!]]''"
* ThirdPersonPerson: Two of them. Walker the Fishman and The Disinfector both refer to themselves in third person, for very different reasons.
* TragicKeepsake: The Straw Hat.
** Also [[spoiler: Zoro's sword ''Shuusui'']].
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: [[spoiler:Eustass Kid wonders aloud in front of Madelyn what would happen if the Straw Hats were delayed, making it possible for the Kid and Heart Pirates to compete for One Piece.]] The "unwitting" part comes from the fact that he doesn't realize [[spoiler:Madelyn]] could make this happen. [[spoiler:Madelyn then concludes that Law has lost his spirit for pursuing One Piece because he thinks Luffy will win, and then wishes for him to get captured to force his crew to go after him]].
* WasItAllALie: Chapter 31, with TheReveal that [[spoiler:Blake was Madelyn all along]].
* WeaponTombstone: Marking the graves of [[spoiler:Nico Robin and Roronoa Zoro]].
* [[WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway What Kind Of Lame Power Is Logic Anyway?]]: Mar eats the Logic-Logic fruit and is disappointed when it only seems to make her think logically.
** [[spoiler: which later turns out to be incorrect as [[HeartIsAnAwesomePower Logic Is An Awesome Power]], thanks to it giving her [[RealityWarper power over logic itself]].]]
** [[spoiler:And then, combined with her mother's power, enables her to even change the pastc as a result of rewriting the rules of her mother's powers]].
* WeNamedTheMonkeyJack: [[spoiler:Law names a kitten after Mar]].
* WhamEpisode: Starting from chapter 3, each becoming more worse than the last.
* WhamLine: Almost every chapter ends with either this, a {{Cliffhanger}} or a [[TheReveal Reveal]].
* WhenYouComingHomeDad: Mr. Suesse was guilty of this before they all got thrown into the OnePiece world.
* YouAllMeetInACell: It's even lampshaded as one of the chapter titles.
