-> ''"I am going to die. And without a hat!"''
--> --Samus Marcus, [[LovableCoward Our hero Fillies and Gentlecolts]].

Written by long-time fic author John Biles, '''''My(stara's) Little Ponies: Friendship Is Adventuring''''' transports [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Equestria]] wholesale into the ''TabletopGame/DungeonsAndDragons'' world of TabletopGame/{{Mystara}}, and it mixes in beautifully.

The story is told from the viewpoint of one Samus Marcus [[spoiler: and on occasion another member of the party, later on in the story]], a typical adventurer with a penchant for hats based on a character commonly used in the author's own campaigns over the years. We start off with Marcus and friend Ivan almost getting killed along with the rest of their party over a waterfall in the Malpheggi swamp, but are saved by the [[Characters/FriendshipIsMagicTheManeCast Elements of Harmony]], registered Adventuring group in the employ of Princess Celestia. Turns out that they are aiming for the same goal as Marcus and Ivan.

There's just one small problem: Marcus used to be Eric of the Northlands, who had a history with Twilight that... well, let's just say that if she learned who he was, she'd blow him up. And if she didn't Spike would gladly burn him alive, if her new friends didn't do the job for him.

[[BlatantLies A deadly serious Soap Opera]] [[HilarityEnsues goes on from there.]]

[[WMG: What's this? A treasure trove of Tropes without facing certain death via dungeon traps? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!]]

* [[AccidentalMarriage Accidental Courtship]]: It seems like poor Eric/Marcus simply ''can'''not''' '' stay in Equestria without ''somepony'' falling for him.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: Averted with the resident Entropy Immortal Luna, and Pinkie Pie, whose Element, Laughter, is an Entropy Artifact.
* AmnesiacGod: [[spoiler:Turns out, Marcus was on the path to becoming an Immortal, long ''long'' ago, but his patron Immortal eventually lost interest and abandoned him.]]
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: Marcus' list of crimes in chapter 3:
-->"He is wanted for the theft of the Water Elves' Pearl, an affair with a Minrothadi ambassador, wearing an Augrist high priest's hat when unqualified to do so, stealing the harem of a Thyatian Ambassador, mocking the Thyatian Emperor, wearing the Sacred Hat of Valerias inappropriately, misleading youth, mocking the gods, failing to pay for 8 sandwiches, and 3 moving violations. Among other crimes."
* BeardOfEvil: During the first battle with the Elements of Power, Twilight casts a spell to give them all goatees so they can tell the two teams apart.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Inverted as [[spoiler:Marquetta/Marjorie complains that Marcus doesn't even remembering raiding her lair, and specifically invokes this trope by name.]]
* CasualDangerDialogue: When Marcus first meets Pinkie Pie, when he is the only thing keeping them plus Ivan from being washed downstream:
--> "Hello, ma'am," I said. "I hope you are a great swimmer because I fear my hands are slipping and we are about to be swept towards that waterfall over there."
* ChickMagnet: See above. Marcus always works on currying favor (you never know when it'll be needed), and is always willing to court a lovely lady. Trouble is, [[HilarityEnsues pony courtship evidently has surface similarities to said currying.]]
* CoolAirship: the ESS Moonraker. You'll never believe who built it either. [[spoiler: Good job Applebloom!]]
* CounterpartCombatCoordination: During their first confrontation Twilight casts a spell to give all the Elements of Power goatees, so the teams can tell each other apart. During later encounters they don't bother, and [[spoiler:Marcus takes advantage of the confusion in the last battle]].
* DeathRay: The Moonraker ''would'' have one, if only they could find a Demi-lich's skull. [[spoiler: But with the new Slaad the Moonraker is fully operational! As long as they remember to feed it anyway...]]
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: Marcus, much to his own annoyance, when he discovers that sometimes his internal monologue... isn't.
* DoomMagnet: Marcus. Oh. My. Word.
* {{Doorstopper}}: In digital form! Each chapter is referred to as a "book" for a ''reason.''
* EnemyMine: A big one in the climactic battle. The conflict between Marcus, Ivan and the Mane Six on the one side and Marquetta and the Elements of Power on the other has driven most of the story so far, but even that falls by the wayside once [[spoiler:a gate to the Nightmare Dimension opens and the forces of Hell itself threaten to march through and start conquering the world]].
* EvilKnockoff: The Elements of Power. Notable for starting out firmly convinced that the Mane Six are ''their'' knockoffs instead of the other way around.
* EvilLaugh[=/=]LaughingMad: Marcus does this a lot in his narrative, always either when he finds some misfortune on an enemy amusing (or has been successfully tricked) or when he's nervous, though usually for that part he'll just as often scream internally.
* {{Expy}}: While it's doubtful that the author intended him to be this way, it's hard for a reader to not draw parallels between Samus Marcus and Literature/CiaphasCain, '''HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!!!'''
* FirstPersonSmartass: Given that we are privy to Marcus' thoughts, this showing up really shouldn't be surprising.
* FurryReminder: The ponies rely on their sense of smell more than their sight for identifying others, and they have herd instincts.
** When Marcus is changed into a pony, his scent is different while in that form. Soarin' makes the comment that his brain is telling him that Marcus has to be someone else.
** When Marcus freaks out due to his transformation causing his brain to get new signals it never had before, his panic is picked up by ponies around him who in turn become nervous themselves which then feedbacks right back into him. It takes Rarity with Fluttershy's help to get him calmed back down. Marcus remarks to the reader that he understands now how stampedes are started.
* FutureBadass: [[spoiler:IMMORTALITY MARK CRUSADERS GO!]]
* HiddenDepths: Marcus himself. Scardy cat? Yes. Abandon his friends due to fear? ''Hell. No.'' [[spoiler:Trope applies for the Pie family as well.]]
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: Poor Scootaloo, [[spoiler:all her friends are getting Cutie Marks but her. She finally got her wish though! Go Rainbow Wheel!]]
* IKnowYouKnowIKnow: The KnightsAndKnaves example below incorporates the fact that Pinkie is aware of the trope.
* InterspeciesRomance: Marcus accidentally got caught in one with Twilight in the backstory. [[spoiler:He later gets involved in a more intentional one with Rarity, using polymorph candy to avoid the [[{{Squick}} obvious problems]]]].
* JerkassGods: Mostly averted. Some of the Immortals ''mentioned'' in the story may well qualify, but those that are actually shown generally don't treat mortals too badly (as much as Celestia and Luna don't trust [[spoiler:their mother]] Loki once they learn he's taken an interest in current events, he's shown as a trickster who may well be up to no good but doesn't engage in any actual villainy onscreen). Even [[spoiler:Marquetta]], who's been trying to kill Marcus for real all this time for [[spoiler:stealing from her hoard -- she's a ''dragon'' Immortal, after all --]] in the now-remote past, is shown to have her (slightly) softer side in the end.
* KnightsAndKnaves: Pinkie busts one of these in White Plume Mountain by asking a question they don't know the answer to.
* LovableCoward: Marcus, in spades. [[spoiler:CharacterDevelopment seems to be taking care of that last part though.]]
* MultipleChoicePast: Marcus, who can't even figure out which origin is exactly his.
* NoodleIncident: A hallmark of the story. Marcus is constantly referencing past adventures and incidents in passing, never giving more information than to make the reader go "wha-huh?".
* OhCrap: While Marcus has many of these moments during the story, the main one is when he realizes that Celestia knows and has always known that he was Erik of Vestland.
* OpponentSwitch: Marcus quickly realizes that the Elements of Power will probably beat their own counterparts and advises everyone to not engage their own double, but when the fights roll around most of the villains force their counterpart to fight them anyways.
* ProperlyParanoid: Applejack is always calling Marcus out on his nervousness. Trouble is he's usually right. [[JustifiedTrope And considering that he is an adventurer in a Dungeons and Dragons setting who has survived multiple campaigns, he should be.]]
* PsychoRangers: The Elements of Power. [[spoiler: [[SubvertedTrope Unlike the usual group]], they think they're good, and the Elements of Harmony want to [[HeelFaceTurn save them]].]]
* {{Reincarnation}}: [[spoiler:Marcus.]]
* RiddlingSphinx: White Plume Mountain has one, although her riddles are pretty easy and Marcus questions whether she'd actually be capable of taking them in a fight. She doesn't want to be there in the first place, but was tricked into an unfavorable contract.
* ShoutOut: A big one to ''WesternAnimation/PhineasAndFerb''. {{Exp|y}}ies of Dr. Doofensmirtz, Vanessa, and Perry the Platypus appear during a dance party.
** The Ghostly Gang, [[VideoGame/PacMan two of which were Bonnie and Clyde, were forced to retire after being chased around a maze by a giant yellow beholder. Afterwards, they had 3 daughters who they named Inky, Blinky and Pinkie.]]
* SummonBiggerFish: Marcus's solution to the team being outmatched during the first battle with the Elements of Power is to flip switches at random to cause as much chaos as possible. It works a bit too well. [[spoiler:Their last confrontation]] is also interrupted by bigger fish, but that time it's not intentional.
* TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody: Whenever someone shapeshifts, they gain the instincts that would be associated with the new body. Some even tend to forget about their true form while shapeshifted, like [[spoiler: Fluttershy]]
* TotalPartyKill: Marcus has survived a multitude of these. See ProperlyParanoid.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Fluttershy can do this as a Druid... She just has trouble controling the animal instincts. Also possible with polymorphing candy, courtesy of Twist.
* [[WaveMotionGun Wave Motion Cannon]]: The Moonraker has a literal one. Very literal.
* YouMeddlingKids: ''' ''CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS ADVENTURERS YAY!!'' '''
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: Luna says this word for word at one point. She then tops it with "''I'' don't like me when I'm angry."
