''[[http://www.fanfiction.net/s/6301605/1/Fairytales Fairytales]]'' is a fanfic one-shot by Commander, written as a series of vignettes that act as sequels (or in some cases, prequels) to many of the ''Franchise/DisneyPrincess'' movies.

The vignettes each occupy a different timespace from 934 AD to 1934 AD and take place in different settings ([[{{WesternAnimation/Aladdin}} Agrabah]] shows up twice, albeit centuries apart). As a Disney fanfic, it stands out as being somewhat more mature and grounded with its subject matter while never seeming irreverent to the fairy tale spirit of the original movies.

As an added bonus, all of the vignettes are tied together by the year 1934.

!!'''Tropes that appear in the fic''':

* AdaptationNameChange:
** Although [[WesternAnimation/BeautyAndTheBeast the Beast]] was never given a name on-screen, [[AllThereInTheManual supplementary material]] gives him the name Adam. Here, his name is given as [[spoiler:Henri]].
** Aurora's mother, named Leah in the film, is Analiese here.
* ArcWelding: For the Franchise/DisneyPrincess franchise as a whole. As the story progresses, it is made clear that all of the vignettes are tied together.
* BookEnds: With characters from ''WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}}''; the first vignette shows Aladdin discussing with Jasmine on how he'll do as a father and the very end of the story [[spoiler:has the Genie fly back to Aladdin to tell him that even after a millenium, his descendents are going to be pretty well-off]].
* BreadEggsMilkSquick:
--> Princess Snow White was beautiful. Princess Snow White was gentle and angelic. Princess Snow White was sweet and kind. Princess Snow White was fourteen years old. [[spoiler: Princess Snow White was in labor. [[WhamLine And Princess Snow White was dying]].]]
* CrossoverRelatives: [[spoiler:Every Disney Princess up to Tiana is a part of the same family tree (e.g. the Beast is actually Cinderella's son).]]
* CuteClumsyGirl: A good reason why Tiana doesn't want Naveen in the kitchen alone.
* DarkerAndEdgier: Downplayed, but present. Cinderella loses two of her children, and [[spoiler:Snow White doesn't live long beyond the end of her film.]]
* DeathByChildbirth: Poor, poor [[spoiler:Snow White]]...
* DeathOfAChild:
** [[spoiler:Cinderella's daughter]] Lisette, who dies at seventeen of typhoid fever. Subverted with eleven-year-old [[spoiler:Henri, who was apparently killed by a beast, but actually ''was'' the beast.]]
** [[spoiler:Snow White]] died in childbirth at age fourteen.
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: As in canon, Agrabah is clearly meant to be a generic Middle Eastern kingdom. Gaulerraute, where Cinderella and Belle live, is clearly a stand-in for France (in the former case, it's a clear reference to the fact that the Disney version drew from Charles Perrault's take on the story).
* FlatEarthAtheist:
** Tiana and Naveen's daughter Renee, a ''five''-year-old one no less.
** Oscar, the prince from "Literature/{{Cinderella}}", is also portrayed as this... until he met his bride-to-be at that one ball.
* GratuitousPrincess: Focuses on a whole swathe of related princesses.
* GriefInducedSplit: Downplayed, but Cinderella grows distant from Oscar after losing two children in rapid succession.
* HappilyMarried: Subverted, surprisingly enough, in Snow White and Cinderella's case. The former because her fairy tale romance just began [[spoiler:and ended]] much too quickly for her to adjust; the latter because the loss of two of her children [[spoiler:before she found out one did survive]] left her in grief for ten years. We can also assume that the trope was averted with [[spoiler:Naveen's grandparents.]] Played straight with most of the couples.
* LamarckWasRight: Renee has her mother's pragmatic mindset and is said to have her father's charm, wit, and irresponsibility.
* LastRequest: [[spoiler: On her deathbed, Snow White, seeing that her child is a girl, asks her husband to never remarry. It’s implied that she doesn’t want her daughter to suffer at the hands of a stepmother the way she did.]]
* LoveAtFirstSight:
** Melody and Alphonse ([[spoiler:Belle and Henri's son]]), to the point Melody's mother is surprised. And knowing [[WesternAnimation/TheLittleMermaid1989 Ariel]], that says a ''whole'' lot.
** A more downplayed version appears with Analiese and Stefan - while there's a clear bond on their first meeting, they do note that they cannot instantly promise to truly love each other based off one meeting, even though they do promise to try. Implicitly, it works out.
* MassiveMultiplayerCrossover: Every one of the (marketed) Disney princesses up to [[WesternAnimation/ThePrincessAndTheFrog Tiana]] show up[[note]]The story was published in September of 2010, before the release of ''WesternAnimation/{{Tangled}}''[[/note]], some even meeting with characters that were made decades later.
* OutOfFocus: While most of the canonical princesses up to Tiana make appearances, Pocahontas and Mulan only get brief mentions as part of Tiana and Naveen's backstories, respectively. This is likely due to their geographic distance from the others (the two are from North America and China respectively, while the others are largely European [=and/or=] Middle Eastern.
* RebelliousPrincess: Princess Lamya of Agrabah seems to take certain traits from one of her ancestors.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Most of the portrayed royals.
* RelatedInTheAdaptation: [[spoiler:''All'' of the Disney princesses up to Tiana are part of the same family tree, spread out over a thousand years.]]
* SatelliteLoveInterest: Averted; each vignette is pretty short, but the ones centering around the earlier Disney princes (who are often criticized as such) manage to give them as much depth as the space allows.
* SpinOffspring: Melody remains the only "official" SpinOffspring that was made by Disney; the rest of them... [[TangledFamilyTree go weird directions.]]
* TangledFamilyTree: [[spoiler:By the end, Tiana and Naveen's daughter Renee is descended from all of the Disney princesses (up until Tiana).]]
* TeenPregnancy: [[spoiler:Snow White gives birth at fourteen. [[DeathByChildbirth She does not survive]].]]
* WhamLine:
** The opening vignette is light enough, with Aladdin and Jasmine talking about Prince Malik's future. Then the second vignette begins, and shows the story's somewhat DarkerAndEdgier character with one line:
---> "[[spoiler:And Princess Snow White was dying.]]"
** A second, lighter one appears near the end of the story, tying everything together.
---> "[[spoiler:[Tiana and Naveen were] not even noticing the big blue genie hovering in the corner, watching them.]]"
