'''Dead or Alive 4: The Devil Factor''' is a ''[[VideoGame/DevilMayCry Devil May Cry]]''[=/=]''[[VideoGame/DeadOrAlive Dead or Alive]]'' {{Crossover}} FanFic written by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/589118/Damon-Black Damon Black]]. Set a year after ''Devil May Cry 2'' and a few weeks after ''Dead or Alive 4'', Dante is hired by Professor Victor Donovan of DOATEC to deliver a package to Kasumi and ends up embroiled in the war between DOATEC and the Mugen Tenshin clan. To make matters worse, Donovan has teamed up with Vergil and an army of demons to gain a great power sealed away by Sparda long ago...

The fic is currently forty chapters long and on hiatus.

Now has a [[Characters/DeadOrAlive4TheDevilFactor character page]].

----
!!''This fic provides examples of the following tropes:''
[[index]]
* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: Both Ayame and Miyako are described as being very beautiful despite being middle aged.
* AccidentalMisnaming: At one point, Bass refers to Hitomi as "German-Oriental," and Leifang is quick to correct him; it's politically incorrect to refer to Asian ''people'' as Oriental.
* AccidentalPervert: After fighting a group of demons at Hitomi's apartment, Hayate unintentionally gets a moment when he discovers that Hitomi had sweat through her nightshirt, leaving it transparent and revealing that she wasn't wearing a bra underneath...
* ActionGirl[=/=]DarkActionGirl: Lucia, Trish, Kasumi, Ayane... the list goes on.
* ADateWithRosiePalms: A MindRape-induced example. See BrotherSisterIncest below.
* ADogNamedDog: Kasumi has a pet fish that she simply calls "Mr. Fish."
* AffablyEvil: Gentleman truly lives up to his name.
* AffectionateNickname:
** Hitomi almost exclusively refers to Hayate as "Ein," the name she gave him while he was amnesiac.
** Ayame also takes to calling Ayane her "little butterfly."
* AllMythsAreTrue: As the Dead or Alive crew discovers over the course of the story, demons and devils are quite real.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: Marller describes most demons as such, claiming that they have no true loyalty to each other.
* AnArmAndALeg: In [[spoiler: chapter 11]], when she and Hayate are attacked by demons at her home, Hitomi is sneak-attacked by one in her bedroom and fights it off by herself, tearing off an arm and a leg in the process.
* {{Angrish}}: In chapter 5, Dante brushes off Kasumi's questions about the package Donovan had him deliver, telling her that he doesn't feel like being interrogated by a "top-heavy Japanese teenager." Kasumi is so angry and embarrassed by this statement that she can barely form a coherent sentence:
-->"That's got nothing to do with…I just want to know…What's ''that'' supposed to mean?!"
* ArbitrarySkepticism:
** Dante fights demons, devils, and all manner of monsters on a regular basis, but still finds it hard to believe that Kasumi and co. are really ninjas.
** Even after the Mugen Tenshin village is attacked by demons, Ayane is quick to dismiss Sparda as being nothing but a FairyTale.
* ArmorPiercingQuestion: In [[spoiler: chapter 35]], Dante forces Helena to realize the flaws in her plan to make Kokoro president of her remade DOATEC with this. Earlier, in [[spoiler: chapter 7]], he ends up making Ayane question her mission and desire to kill Kasumi by revealing his own conflict with Vergil.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: A rare female-on-female example in [[spoiler: chapter 6]]; when Kasumi addresses Ayane as "sister" while trying to reason with her, she sets off Ayane's BerserkButton and gets slapped silly for it. Kasumi is so conflicted and saddened over it that she has to fight back tears and hides her face in Dante's coat sleeve.
* ArrangedMarriage: Kasumi's mother, Ayame, attempts to arrange one between Kasumi and Dante in order to get the Mugen Tenshin to call off the contract on the former's life.
* ArtifactOfDoom: Three of them: the Jewel of the Forbidden, the Jewel of the Forsaken, and the Jewel of the Forgotten.
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: [[spoiler: Vergil]] took control of most of his demons by defeating them.
* AttemptedRape: With Helena at her mercy in [[spoiler: chapter 19]], Christie briefly threatens to rape her before killing her, but Dante shows up just in time to stop it before she can make good on the threat.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler: Both Doku and Raidou have been resurrected as demons and are working for Vergil.]]
* {{Badass}}: In freaking spades...
** BadassAdorable: Quite a few of the DOA fighters.
** BadassBystander: In [[spoiler: chapter 18]], Ayame calmly stands up to Gentleman when he attempts to intimidate her into revealing where one of the jewels Vergil is looking for is, and openly refuses to tell him.
** BadassGrandpa: Gen Fu.
** BadassLongcoat: Dante and Vergil.
** BadassNormal: Quite a few characters, such as Hitomi, Kokoro, and Helena. Let's not forget the Armstrongs; [[spoiler: how many normal humans can hold their own against Dante in a straight-up fight?]]
** EmpoweredBadassNormal: [[spoiler:Raidou, thanks to his resurrection as a demon.]]
* BashBrothers: A female example. When Ayane and Kasumi work together in a fight and coordinate, they're quite a deadly force.
* BathtubBonding: Hitomi and Leifang bathe together while discussing their respective boy troubles in [[spoiler: chapter 22]].
* BerserkButton: In the early chapters, Ayane does ''not'' take being called Kasumi's sister well, to the extent that when Kasumi refers to her as such while talking to her, Ayane loses her temper and bitch-slaps her right then and there, making a public spectacle of herself in the process. Likewise, she has to be physically restrained from attacking Dante upon their first meeting when he snarkily asks if she "got a boob job" as part of her Dead or Alive winnings.
* BerserkMode: During [[spoiler: chapter 8]], Ayane, after being pinned by a DOATEC security guard on top of [[TraumaCongaLine everything else that has happened to her]], snaps and goes apeshit on several guards, butchering them so badly that she ends up covered head to toe in blood.
* BigBadDuumvirate: Donovan and Vergil.
** NonActionBigBad: Donovan is largely this, whereas Vergil does most of the fighting.
* BigDamnHeroes: Quite a few examples:
** Trish shows up on two different occasions to help Kasumi and Ayane out of a jam, first in [[spoiler: chapter 9]], then in [[spoiler: chapter 36]].
** Later, in [[spoiler:chapter 19]], Dante shows up just in time to save Helena from being killed and possibly raped by Christie.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: Both Dante and Kasumi's families are this, by both group's own admission.
* BizarreAlienBiology: Well, demon biology in this case, and even then it's just invoked; while fighting Cait Sidhes at her home, Kokoro actually wonders if the creatures have bones to break.
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: In [[spoiler: chapter 9]], Kasumi barely avoids getting sliced in half by an EliteMook in PoweredArmor using this.
* BloodIsTheNewBlack[=/=]BloodSplatteredWarrior: See BerserkMode above.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler: Raidou]] ends up torturing Ayane by planting thoughts in her head and sending her nightmares. It gets to the point where Ayane begins to question her sanity.
* BringMyRedJacket: Who else but Dante?
* BrotherSisterIncest: Shortly after arriving at Devil May Cry, Ayane, under the influence of [[spoiler: Raidou's]] {{Mind Rape}}s, ends up masturbating while thinking of Hayate, much to her disgust.
* TheBrute: In [[spoiler: chapter 10]], when Kasumi is unable to crack the passcode to the door where Ayame is being held, Dante gets impatient and decides to break the door down with his bare hands. Bonus points for Ayane explicitly calling him a brute.
* CanonForeigner: Original characters such as Yuri, Gentleman, and Marller.
* CanonWelding: Damon Black does quite a good job at making the two different series seem like one coherent continuity:
** As already established, the fic takes place a few weeks after ''Dead or Alive 4'', and a year after ''Devil May Cry 2''.
** During chapter 5, Kasumi recalls that her parents used to tell her about the legend of Sparda as a bedtime story.
** Early on, Ryu tells Ayane and Hayate that he got wind of the events of ''Devil May Cry 3'' and made his way to America to put a stop to the Temen-ni-gru, only to find that Dante had already resolved everything by the time he even got there.
** Sparda actually entrusted one of the [[ArtifactOfDoom jewels that Vergil and Donovan are after]] to the Mugen Tenshin Clan twenty years before the events of the fic; [[spoiler: Shiden had it made into a [[HairDecorations Kanoko Dome]] and gave it to Ayame as an anniversary gift.]]
** Dante and Vergil also visited the Mugen Tenshin with their parents during that time; Dante snuck out out of boredom and came across Ayame while she was collecting herbs. During that time, he had the whole village in an uproar, with Shiden's father sending out his best ninja to search for him. Because of this, years later, Ayame recognizes Dante on sight, whereas Hayate finds Vergil's name familiar, but doesn't recognize ''him''.
** Likewise, the Protectorate of Vidu Mali entrusted another one of the jewels to Gen Fu's master.
** Kasumi recognizes Dante's weapons as Devil Arms, having heard of them from her grandfather.
** The Uroboros Corporation of ''Devil May Cry 2'' was one of DOATEC's major competitors until Dante and Lucia took it down.
** Dante was considered a candidate for the Dead or Alive tournaments, but was never invited.
* CassandraTruth: Jann Lee and Leifang laugh off Ryu's claims of demons until they themselves are attacked.
* CasualDangerDialog: At DOATEC Paris, Hitomi pretty much stops the fight with Dante to trash Jann Lee about beating up the T-Rex in ''Dead or Alive 4'' to [[UngratefulBastard save her]]. This leads to a small argument until Dante reminds them that he's still there and they're supposed to be fighting.
* CatsAreMean: Marller uses cat-like demons called Cait Sidhes as {{mooks}}.
* ChivalrousPervert: Dante admits he believes that Ayane and Kasumi are hot, but he doesn't make any moves on them due to their age. Case in point: when Ayane is {{brainwashed}} into trying to seduce him, Dante resists and instead helps her snap out of it.
* CombatBreakdown: Dante and Vergil's fight in DOATEC Paris. It begins with the two using all manner of guns and Devil Arms, then with the two going [[SuperMode Devil Trigger]], and finally climaxes with the two utterly exhausted and swinging at each other, ending with Dante breaking Vergil's nose with a punch and Vergil pulling a tactical retreat.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Donovan, hands down.
* CrazyPrepared: While casing the joint in a DOATEC building, Ayane spikes all the coffee machines in the area with powerful sedatives to lessen security.
* CrossOver: Between ''VideoGame/DeadOrAlive'' and ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry'', duh.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: After seeing Dante's weapons and demon trophies, Ayane quickly recognizes Dante as this.
* CryIntoChest: In [[spoiler: chapter 11]], Ayame gets a moment with Dante after being rescued from DOATEC while mourning [[spoiler: the loss of her home and husband]].
* CuteBruiser: Kasumi, Hitomi, and Kokoro, among others.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: [[spoiler:Vergil]] and Donovan decide not to move Ayame to another location after Dante, Kasumi, and Ayane discover she is within Dante's city, simply because the three have a habit of finding things they're not supposed to either way.
* DeadpanSnarker: Mostly Dante and Ayane, but quite a few other characters have their moments.
* DealWithTheDevil: [[spoiler: Miyako makes a deal with Gentleman to hand one of the jewels that Vergil and Donovan need to take over the world in exchange for herself and Kokoro being given sanctuary from the resulting apocalypse.]]
* DeathSeeker: Helena states on more than one occasion that, after she succeeds in taking down DOATEC and Donovan, she doesn't really care if she lives or dies.
* DestructiveSaviour: Dante, natch. When she hears an explosion in DOATEC Paris, Trish immediately knows that Dante is somehow involved.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: Poor, poor [[spoiler: Yuri]].
* DontCallMeSir: Ayame insists to Ayane that she stop addressing her as "Lady" and start calling her "mom."
* DontYouDarePityMe: Apparently, Ayane mistakes Kasumi's love for her as pity, which only pisses her off even more.
* DoomedHometown: [[spoiler: The Mugen Tenshin village is utterly decimated by Vergil's forces early on.]]
* DragonWithAnAgenda: [[spoiler: Raidou, Marller, and Bolverk all have their own plans independent of Vergil's; Marller and Bolverk are enemies of the late Sparda, and Raidou just doesn't like taking orders from anyone.]]
* TheDreaded: Just about everyone in Dante's neighborhood is scared to death of him and won't dare mess with him or anyone else staying at his shop. Not only that, but the entire criminal underworld fears him as well. This includes TheMafia, TheMafiya, the [[TheTriadsAndTheTongs Triads]], the [[TheCartel Colombians]], and the {{Yakuza}}. It's to the point that, when he beats up an entire precinct of cops while helping Ayane and Kasumi spring their mom from DOATEC, no one even really tries to take any legal action against him.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Apparently, Miyako learned how to drive by playing ''[[MarioKart Mario Kart Wii]]''. To drive another nail in, she's not very good at the game itself.
* DyingDeclarationOfLove: [[spoiler: A more familial example. Shiden admits to Ayane that he always cared for her and wished she were ''his'' biological daughter. Played straight prior to Yuri's death.]]
* DyingRace: According to comments made by characters such as Lady, Ryu, and Kasumi, since Sparda's time, full-fledged demons have become a rarity on Earth in comparison to fiends.
* EliteMooks: Complete with PoweredArmor.
* TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt: [[spoiler: Vergil's endgame: reopening a portal to the demon world.]]
* ExpendableClone[=/=]CloneArmy: Donovan uses numerous defective Kasumi clones as household staff, largely because though they are unable to fight, they nonetheless are capable of ordinary functions and he hates wasting products.
* EveryoneHasStandards[=/=]EvenEvilHasStandards:
** Ayane initially revels in Kasumi's sorrow when she discovers that the Mugen Tenshin village has been razed by demons and her father is dead, but is quickly disgusted with herself for doing so because she, too, had lost a father and wouldn't wish such a thing on anyone else.
** Early on, [[spoiler: Vergil]] explicitly states that he hopes that Donovan doesn't use the aforementioned Kasumi clones for sex. Donovan replies that such an act is beneath him, and besides that, he's not ''that'' desperate.
** When Hayate states that they may have to use lethal force to put any dent in Dante at DOATEC Paris, both Hitomi and Jann Lee are reluctant to do so, the latter remarking that, while he likes a good fight, he's not a killer.
* ExactWords: After they rescue Ayame from DOATEC, Trish asks Dante to distract the cops so she can get everyone back to Devil May Cry. Of course, she should have specified that she wanted Dante to have said cops chase him around for a while, not beat the stew out of the whole precinct.
* FacePalm: When Dante confesses to getting into a fight with Hayate at DOATEC Paris, Trish rubs her eyes in annoyance.
* {{Fingore}}: See InvulnerableKnuckles below.
* FireIceLightning: [[spoiler: Doku, Raidou, and Apophis control fire, ice, and lightning respectively.]]
* FunctionalAddict: Apparently, Helena has been so badly traumatized by her mother's death that she has constant attacks and flashbacks and uses special drugs to cope.
* GagBoobs: When he first meets Kasumi and Ayane, Dante simply cannot help but make quips about their bust sizes, at one point wondering to himself how they don't get back pains from them. Later, Trish asks Tina if she got a second spine transplanted in to handle her own bust.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: After the BerserkMode and BloodIsTheNewBlack situations mentioned above, Ayane is left in a furious trance and Kasumi only manages to snap her out of it by slapping her.
* TheGlomp: Kasumi gives one to her mother after they break her out of DOATEC.
* GodzillaThreshold: After the Mugen Tenshin Clan are decimated by demons, Hayate becomes desperate enough that he decides to turn to the Dead or Alive participants for help.
* GratuitousForeignLanguage: Kasumi, her siblings, Ryu, Kokoro, Jann Lee, Helena, and Leifang all speak in their native languages at various points, often leaving Dante, who only speaks English, at a loss as to what they're talking about.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Gentleman spends his time helping both the heroes and villains, as well as PlayingBothSides.
* HeroicBSOD:
** Kasumi undergoes a brief one when she discovers from Hayate that the Mugen Tenshin has been decimated by a demon attack.
** When shot at by soldiers at DOATEC Paris, Leifang is in such shock that she nearly pukes.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Yuri distracts a demon fighting Ayane and gets impaled for it]].
** SenselessSacrifice: Also doubles as this, because [[spoiler: Ayane was playing possum and about to pull off AHandfulForAnEye before Yuri stepped in. His death results in quite a bit of SurvivorGuilt for Ayane]].
* HonorBeforeReason: [[spoiler: During their fight, Dante returns Hayate's sword to him, and later uses this to convince Hayate to give him back his gun. Jann Lee even calls Hayate out on it.]]
* HumanMail: Invoked in chapter 5, Ayane at first refuses to sit next to Kasumi in the car ride back to Dante's shop, to which Dante blows up and threatens to "stuff her in a box and mail her sorry ass back home" if he hears any more complaints from her. Ayane, not wanting to make a public spectacle, sullenly complies.
* HalfBreedDiscrimination: Apparently, Dante and Vergil were shunned during their childhood for their half-demon status, with Sparda's legend having [[TheFogOfAges faded into obscurity]].
* ICanStillFight: Jann Lee acts as such after getting cracked ribs to the extent that Leon dopes him with morphine just to shut him up.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Miyako's deal with Gentleman in [[spoiler: Stealing the (fake) Jewel from Ayame]] in order to keep Kokoro safe. Gets a huge WhatTheHellHero from said daughter.
* IWantThemAlive: As [[spoiler: Ayame]] knows where the final jewel is, Vergil insists to his minions that they capture her alive.
* IfYouKillHimYouWillBeJustLikeHim: Ryu gets in a fistfight with Kokoro over Helena, and though he has and will kill without hesitation, he refuses to kill innocents and holds back from using lethal force against Kokoro, a girl simply trying to protect her sister, because it would make him no better than those he has already killed.
* InsistentTerminology: This little exchange between Dante and Ayane in [[spoiler: chapter 34]]:
-->'''Dante''': "Look, we can all stand around and talk about who started what or who shot at who…\\
'''Ayane''': "You shot our brother?!"\\
'''Dante''': "Shot ''at''. Not ''shot''. There's a difference."
* InvulnerableKnuckles: Inverted. While defending Mei Lin from demons attacking Gen Fu's temple, Eliot ends up breaking several fingers.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Ayane and Kasumi's brief argument on [[ThouShaltNotKill sparing their enemies]] counts as this on Ayane's end:
-->'''Kasumi''': "Ayane, could you... could you try to spare them?\\
'''Ayane''': "[[BigWhat WHAT?!]] [[YoureInsane Are you insane?!]] In case you haven't noticed, there are guys out there armed to the teeth who would kill you in a heartbeat, not to mention they're the [[{{Mooks}} hired thugs]] of the same [[MegaCorp corporation]] that are our clan's [[ArchEnemy sworn enemy]], and you want me to ''spare'' them?!"\\
'''Kasumi''': "We are ''not'' cold-blooded killers!"\\
'''Ayane''': "[[PunctuatedForEmphasis Yes... we...]] ''[[PunctuatedForEmphasis are]]''! We are ninja. That's what we do. We are assassins, we are spies, and we work in the shadows. If you think that just because we still hold the code of honor that we can act all noble and compassionate, then maybe it was a good thing you ran away because with that kind of attitude, you'd ''[[NoTrueScotsman never]]'' [[NoTrueScotsman be a true ninja]]!"
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Both Dante and Ayane have their moments.
* JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope: Gentleman remarks to Ayame that, while Vergil is not quite ''pure'' evil, he's pretty damn close.
* LapPillow: Ayane gets this with Ayame in [[spoiler: chapter 18]]. The fact that Ayame states that she had wanted to do so since the day Ayane was born undoubtedly makes it a CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming.
* LetUsNeverSpeakOfThisAgain[=/=]OldShame: Kasumi and Lisa/La Mariposa regard the events of ''Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball'' as embarrassing and do not explain them to Dante in detail. Leifang also briefly brings up the events of Zack's Island while bathing with Hitomi, but she immediately stops her, nearly phrasing this trope word-for-word. Apparently all of the ladies agreed to never mention what happened on the island.
* LightningBruiser: Both Dante and Vergil.
* LittleNo: Kasumi gives out one after learning of the attack on the Mugen Tenshin by Vergil's demons.
* MadeOfIron:
** Kokoro manages to stay conscious and on her feet after Ryu performs the [[SpinningPiledriver Izuna Drop]] on her, though she doesn't exactly just shrug it off either.
** Jann Lee remarks that fractured ribs are just "boo-boos" to him.
* MesACrowd: God knows how many Kasumi clones Donovan has made.
* MexicanStandoff: [[spoiler: Dante and Vergil end up in one, with Dante holding Vergil at gunpoint and Vergil holding him at bladepoint. It ends with Vergil getting [[BoomHeadshot shot in the head]] and Dante getting his [[SlashedThroat throat slashed]], [[GoodThingYouCanHeal neither of which last long.]]]]
* MindRape:
** [[spoiler:Raidou]] begins to torture Ayane by implanting emotions and thoughts in her mind, and later sending her nightmares. Eventually, he brainwashes her into attempting to seduce Dante, who resists and gets her to snap out of it.
** Gentleman also forces Miyako to let Kokoro accompany Dante and Christie back to Paris by showing her visions of the [[TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt apocalypse]] that will occur if/when Vergil's plans succeed.
* MoralMyopia: When Dante reveals his fratricide of Vergil to her, Ayane, despite having wanted to kill Kasumi for years, finds herself nauseated at that information. Indeed, her hatred of Kasumi actually begins to waver at that thought.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After the BerserkMode incident mentioned above, Ayane, after snapping out if it, undergoes one of these moments.
* NeverBringAGunToAKnifeFight: Vergil proves just why GunsAreWorthless against him.
* NeverGetsDrunk: Subverted; Dante can get drunk, but not hungover.
* NeverHurtAnInnocent: Christie [[ExploitedTrope uses]] Ryu's moral code against him by using Kokoro as a HumanShield.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: The guardian to Ayame's cell in the DOATEC building is Apophis, a robotic demon dragon that shoots red lightning.
* NoInfantileAmnesia: Averted; when Dante and Vergil went to the Mugen Tenshin village with their parents, Dante was apparently too young to remember it.
* NoTrueScotsman: During [[spoiler: chapter 8]], Ayane spitefully tells Kasumi that, given her compassionate nature and reluctance to kill, she'd never be a real ninja.
* NotHelpingYourCase: When their attempts to sneak into DOATEC Paris go haywire and result in a raid and battle, Ryu attempts to get to Helena but is stopped by Kokoro. Though Ryu insists that they mean Helena no harm and just want to ask her some questions, he nonetheless admits to Kokoro that, given the raid and bloodshed going on around them, he wouldn't believe his story if their positions were reversed.
* NotMeThisTime: In [[spoiler: chapter 36]], Ayane congratulates Dante for taking out Doku, but Dante tells her that that was Ryu who did so.
* NotSoDifferent: Dante compares Ayane to Vergil early on, and [[spoiler: during the aforementioned MindRape seduction scene, recognizes Ayane's feelings of isolation and need for love as feelings that he himself dealt with as a child.]] Furthermore, [[spoiler: Gentleman remarks to Ayame that Dante and Vergil both share the same mentality and dislike of their mixed-species heritage, the only difference between the two being that Dante fights to protect others.]]
* OhMyGods: Ayane and Kasumi exclaim "Oh, Kami!" or "Thank Kami!" at various points. Of course, "Kami" is Japanese for "God." Ayane even explicitly exclaims "Oh, Gods!" during chapter 4.
* OpenHeartDentistry: Both Dante and Vergil dig bullets out of their own bodies at different points.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: [[spoiler: Yuri's older brother had previously perished during the Mugen Tenshin's assault on the DOATEC Tri-Towers, and when Yuri dies as well during the demon attack on the village, Yuri's mother, now completely alone, is reduced to a near-catatonic state.]]
* ParentalIncest: Indirectly. In [[spoiler: chapter 7]], Dante and Trish briefly make out and begin to have sex, but it ends badly when Dante remembers just who she looks like.
* PoweredArmor: While rescuing their mother, Kasumi and Ayane face off against a bunch of EliteMooks using this, and it's only thanks to Trish that they get out alive.
* RescueRomance: Yuri fell in love with Ayane after she saved him from drowning in a river as a child. It's sadly one-sided, though.
* RevengeBeforeReason: In [[spoiler: chapter 36]], Hayate acknowledges that he had become this in his vendetta against DOATEC. He snaps out of it, acknowledging that there's no point in taking down DOATEC if he destroys himself in the process and promising his sisters that he will plan his steps better in the future.
* ShoutOut:
** Dante is initially unwilling to answer Kasumi's questions, stating that he's "not in a MisterRogers mood."
** When Ayame questions Dante where she went wrong as a parent, Dante laughs and remarks to her that his own family "isn't exactly ''TheBradyBunch.''"
** When Ryu pulls a StealthHiBye on Dante and Kasumi, Dante asks "What is he? [[Creator/HarryHoudini Houdini]]?"
** When Kasumi explains that they're ninjas, Dante quips "Sure, and I'm [[Series/StarTrek Captain Kirk]]."
** When he first meets Dante, Gentleman asks if he is really the son of Sparda. Dante sarcastically replies, "No, I'm the son of Ronald [=McDonald=]."
** Miyako [[DrivesLikeCrazy apparently]] learned how to drive by playing ''MarioKart''.
* ShroudedInMyth: Subverted when Ryu recognizes Dante as the son of Sparda on sight. Played straight when Ayane laughs off Sparda as being nothing but a legend.
* SinsOfOurFathers: Poor Dante has to put up with this; when Ryu recognizes him as the son of Sparda, he explicitly tells him that he isn't taking any flak for his father anymore, and later tells Marller not to even bother telling him what her beef with Sparda is, because he's heard it all.
* SmoochOfVictory: After they spring Ayame from DOATEC, Kasumi gives Dante a peck on the cheek as thanks, an act that confuses them both.
* TheStarscream: Two of Vergil's minions, Marller and Bolverk, have a grudge against Sparda and his sons by extension.
* StealthHiBye: Ryu and the Mugen Tenshin ninjas are quite fond of this.
* SuperSoldier: [[spoiler: Donovan's new Project Beta, featuring duplicates of Kasumi's super-clone Alpha-152 and similarly augmented clones of Ayane in pairs.]]
* SurprisinglyGoodEnglish: Kasumi, Ryu, Hayate, and Ayane are noted by Dante to speak perfect, albeit heavily accented, English.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Not ''quite'' a denial on Dante's end, but what he tells Ayane and Kasumi after fighting Hayate counts a bit:
-->"Well, not that I'm admitting to anything, but there ''might'' have been an incident where someone might have said a few unflattering things to said ninja. A scuffle ''could'' have broken out as well, but nothing I'm willing to confirm."
* TakeAThirdOption: Dante's reaction to Kasumi's dilemma (be hunted by her clan for the rest of her life, or enter an arranged marriage and sever all ties to the Mugen Tenshin, thus never being able to go back home again). He explicitly says that when someone only give him two choices, he will take a third one every time.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: Between Ayane and Dante, and Ayane and Kasumi, at least early on. Hell, in the latter case, Ayane can barely restrain herself from blowing her stack whenever Kasumi simply speaks.
* TemptingFate: This gem between Ayane and Helena while fighting demons in DOATEC Paris:
-->'''Ayane''': "Only one? Wow, I'm insulted."\\
''(a small army of demons appears)''\\
'''Helena''': "[[LampshadeHanging You]] ''[[LampshadeHanging had]]'' [[LampshadeHanging to say something, didn't you]]?"
* ThatCameOutWrong: After the incident at DOATEC Paris, during which Hayate fights Dante over his current job with Helena, Dante defends himself to Kasumi and Ayane by stating that Hayate attacked first and he wasn't about to help him "insert his sword." He realizes just ''how'' that sounds after he says it.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: Ayane ends quite a few sentences towards Kasumi this way.
* ThouShaltNotKill: Kasumi prefers not to kill and, when confronted with armed DOATEC guards, asks Ayane if she would at least try to non-fatally subdue them. Ironically, their positions on this statement end up reversed, albeit unwillingly and reluctantly on Kasumi's end, after the BerserkMode incident listed above and when they fight a group of {{Powered Armor}}ed EliteMooks.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Dante, as usual, loves pizza, while Kasumi enjoys strawberries. Ayane, being herself, actually bitches about this to them, going so far as to accuse Kasumi of having a "strawberry fetish."
* UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny: During the raid on DOATEC Paris, Dante ends up fighting none other than Ryu Hayabusa. CoolVersusAwesome much?
* UndyingLoyalty: So far, Doku is the ''only'' [[TheDragon Dragon]] of Vergil that is truly loyal to him.
* VigilanteMan: According to this fic, Dante also dealt with human criminals in addition to demons; in the case of the latter, the ''entire criminal underworld'' is completely terrified of him.
* VillainTeamUp: Vergil and Donovan.
* VomitDiscretionShot: After going crazy on and brutally killing several DOATEC guards, Ayane, after coming back to her senses, is so horrified by how she lost control like that that she promptly goes into a bathroom stall and throws up.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Ayane calls out Hayate for focusing on his vendetta against DOATEC rather than trying to locate their MissingMom.
** Ayane and Kasumi (well, mostly Ayane) call Dante out for fighting Hayate at DOATEC Paris. However, as Dante points out, Hayate attacked him first, and he was acting in self-defense.
* WhereDidWeGoWrong: Ayame's word-for-word question to Dante when she reflects on the state of her family and her children's relationships.
* WomanScorned: [[spoiler: Marller was apparently betrothed to Sparda before he left her for Eva. She bares him no ill will for betraying demonkind, as demons are for the most part AlwaysChaoticEvil, but she's pissed that he left her, let alone [[FantasticRacism for a human]].]]
