[[caption-width-right:259:[[VideoGame/MOTHER1 Ninten]] and [[VideoGame/{{Earthbound}} Ness]].]]

Hmm...do any of these video game characters (or pixels) [[{{Expy}} look familiar to you]]?

----
* Nell from the first ''Advance Wars'' was made as an expy of Caroline from ''Super Famicom Wars''.
* Naggi from ''VideoGame/TheAngryVideoGameNerdAdventures'' is clearly a parody of [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Navi]].
* ''VideoGame/TheNeverhood'' SpiritualSuccessor ''[[http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1949537745/armikrog Armikrog]]'' stars Tommynaut, a character that's not that too different from Klaymen from the original game - only major difference being the voice instead of being an HeroicMime (provided by MichaelJNelson).
* Ben and Dan from ''BenThereDanThat'' and ''TimeGentlemenPlease'' were created as expies of Franchise/{{Sam and Max|FreelancePolice}}, and even affectionately call each other "Sam" and "Max" from time to time.
* MAAX [[FunWithAcronyms (Meteoroid And Asteroid eXploder)]] from VideoGame/BillNyeTheScienceGuyStopTheRock is a blatant expy of [[Film/TwoThousandOneASpaceOdyssey HAL 9000]].
* Wrath from ''VideoGame/TheBindingOfIsaac'' was built as a ShoutOut to VideoGame/{{Bomberman}}.
* ''VideoGame/BlazBlue'', being a SpiritualSuccessor to ''VideoGame/GuiltyGear'', has a number of these:
** Slayer -> Valkenhayn R. Hellsing
** Sol Badguy -> Ragna the Bloodedge
** Ky Kiske -> Jin Kisaragi
** Potemkin -> Iron Tager
** Zato-1 -> Arakune
** Chipp Zanuff -> Bang Shishigami
** Justice -> Nu-13
** Dizzy -> Mu-12
** Jam Kuradoberi -> Lichi Faye Ling
* ''Bomberman'''s sprite from the original NES game is actually the same sprite used for the enemies in the NES port of ''LodeRunner'', which was released a year earlier. Interestingly, if you beat Bomberman, the ending shows [[spoiler: Bomberman transforming into the protagonist from Lode Runner, accomplishing his goal of [[PinocchioSyndrome becoming human]]. The ending says "You have succeeded in helping Bomberman to become a human being. Maybe you can recognize him in another Hudson Soft game", implying that the game was a prequel to Lode Runner all along. Since then the Bomberman character has developed into something completely unrelated to Lode Runner however.]]
* [[http://www.dragon-tear.net/newnmk/?it=bof/interview.html Word of God]] states Elyon in ''VideoGame/BreathOfFireDragonQuarter'' was created as an expy of Fou-lu from ''VideoGame/BreathOfFireIV''.
* ''VideoGame/ChronoCross'' has quite a lot of expys of characters in ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''.
** Magus -> Guile [[note]]In the Japanese game, he was even named Alf, after Magus' cat, Alfador.[[/note]]
** Ayla -> Leah
** Lucca -> Luccia
** Marle -> Kid
* ''VideoGame/CityOfHeroes'' has these everywhere - millionaire playboy with no actual superpowers Justin Sinclair, kilt-clad time traveler Mender Lazarus and [[CaptainAmerica Statesman]] are only a few of the many.
* ''VideoGame/TheClub'' has Finn or [[Film/{{Memento}} Leonard Shelby]] in it.
* Devilotte of ''VideoGame/{{Cyberbots}}'' was built as an expy of Doronjo from ''Anime/{{Yatterman}}'' -- both being blonde, female comedic mecha villains constantly accompanied by a pair of male lackeys. [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in Doronjo's ending in ''VideoGame/TatsunokoVsCapcom'', where she ends up going after Devilotte for stealing her gimmick.
* There is quite a lot of expies in the {{Contra}} series:
** The final boss in the arcade version of ''Super Contra'', Emperor Devil Gava(A.K.A. The Red Falcon), is based on Mad Emperor Asmodeus, the final boss of another Konami arcade game, ''[[http://www.vgmuseum.com/end/arcade/c/bats.htm Battlantis]]''. ''Battlantis'' was directed by Hideyuki Tsujimoto, who was co-programmer in the original arcade version of ''Contra'' and later directed ''Super Contra'', as well as ''SunsetRiders'' and ''MysticWarriors''.
*** Emperor Devil Gava has also some similarities with the [[{{Franchise/Alien}} Xenomorph Queen from the Alien franchise]], especialy in his first apperance in ''Super Contra''. Compare [[http://www.klustr.net/contra/images/articles/gyaba_1.png Gava's head from Super Contra]], and that [[http://www.thebeerdrifter.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Alien-Queen.png of the Queen]]. Both give birth to the other aliens, and are their leaders.
*** In Contra [=ReBirth=], Gava has mandibles, that make him look a bit like a [[Franchise/AlienVsPredator Predalien.]]
** The Aliens are in series, generally are based on those from the Alien movies. In The Final level of the original game, there is Devil Dragon Emperor Java(the big Xenomorph-like head), and Facehuggers. In ''Super C'' and ''Alien Wars'', there are enemies, that look like adult Xenomorphs, not to mention the Metal Alien, who looks like a winged one.
** The Waterfall Boss from the Jungle Stage in ''Contra: Hard Corps'' looks like a [[{{Franchise/Alien}} Space Jockey]].[[spoiler: [[{{Film/Prometheus}} Well, at least one in their biomechanical]] PowerArmor.]]
** [[spoiler: The Moirai]] in ''Shattered Soldier'' have a similar role to the Engineers/Space Jockeys, [[spoiler: both being very advanced species, who created the alien enemies in series.]]
** The brain boss of ''Contra III'' also resembles the Golem from ''[[{{Gradius}} Salamander]]''.
** In ''[=ReBirth=],'' the Contra commander looks like Che Guevara, and Brownie the RobotGirl looks suspiciously like Drossel Von Flugel from ''{{Anime/Fireball}}''.
*** Brownie/Tsugu-Min also very resembles Browny from ''Contra: Hard Corps'', both in looks and gameplay.
** Bill Rizer [[ComicBookFantasyCasting resembles]] very much ArnoldSchwarzenegger, and Lance Bean SylvesterStallone.
** A pretty wierd example from Contra: Hard Corps, were there is an expy of an attack, rather than a character. [[spoiler: The first form of]] Colonel Bahamut [[spoiler: after fusing with Alien Cell]] uses an attack that is pretty much the [[DragonBall Continuous Energy Bullets attack from Dragon Ball Z]]. His second form [[spoiler: after he loses control over the Alien Cell]] looks like Slave Beast Taka, A.K.A The Giant Turle boss from Alien Wars and Shattered Soldier.
** The fight against The[[spoiler: Relic of Moirai fused with the Triumvirate]] from Shattered Soldier is oddly enough, an expy of the multi-fazed boss fight against Colonel Bahamut. And their first form resembles [[DragonBall Super Buu, again from Dragon Ball Z]].
** Genbei “Jaguar” Yagyu, is obviously based on the historical Samurai Yagyū Jūbei Mitsuyoshi.
** In ''Contra [=ReBirth=]'', Rocket Ninja Sasaki, looks very much like a {{Franchise/Predator}}, or a [[Franchise/MortalKombat Lin Kuei Cyborg Ninja]].
** The RecurringBoss "Big Fuzz", looks like a gigantic [[{{Film/Terminator}} Terminator skeleton]], and the two androids that are fought before him in ''Alien Wars'', look like normal sized ones.
** HardCorpsUprising, being a Contra game by Creator/ArcSystemWorks, has a lot of expies from thier earlier works, other Contra games, and other franchises:
*** {{Expy}}: Sayuri = [[VideoGame/GuiltyGear Baiken]].
*** Bahamut = Sol Badguy, or Bill Rizer.
**** More like a gun-toting [[VideoGame/StarGladiator Hayato Kanzaki]].
**** Also an expy of ArnoldSchwarzenegger.
*** Krystal = Millia Rage, or Brownie/Tsugu-Min.
**** She's actualy more similar to [[{{Franchise/METROID}} Samus Aran]], at least in looks, and her gun is based on her [[PoweredArmor Power Suit]]. Krystal even has an alternate color scheme, were she looks exacly like [[MetroidZeroMission Zero]] [[{{SUPERSMASHBROS}} Suit Samus]].
*** Harley = Potemkin + Johnny.
**** He also seems to designed as a fully human version of Brad Fang, from Contra: Hard Corps.
*** Leviathan = Ky Kiske + Chipp Zanuff + Lance Bean.
**** He also resembles Deadeye Joe, from the original Contra: Hard Corps. Both have lower parts of their faces obscured by their masks, both are chased by the player, both have NobleDemon tendencies, and both fight against the player character, personally, and inside a {{Mecha}}.
**** He's quite similar to [[BlazBlue Jin Kisaragi]] too. Both are sometimes at least a bit [[AxeCrazy crazy]], had a deep bond with one of the characters, that was broken(Ragna/Bahamut), and consider themselves kind-off the good guy, at least in the begining, despite being on the definitely wrong side of the conflict. Their faces and hair are also definitely similar.
**** He is also an equivalent of [[WellIntentionedExtremist Lance Bean]], who was Bill Rizer's former friend in the old ''Contra'' titles, and now enemy in ''Shattered Soldier''. Both have accused their former friend (Bill/Bahamut) for the atrocities they have done [[spoiler:(Bill has accidentally wiped out 80% of human population and nearly killed Lance. Bahamut has betrayed Leviathan and the Commonwealth Empire.)]] before becoming enemies.
*** Tiberius = [[VideoGame/MegaManX Colonel]], or Master Contra of ''Neo Contra'' + Chief Salamander of ''Contra Rebirth''.
**** [[spoiler:Tiberius Augustus = Justice]].
***** He also resembles in this form, the first two stages of [[ResidentEvil2 G-Virus mutated William Birkin]], especialy with both sharing the overgrown one arm, with a pulsating, giant eye.
***** [[spoiler: Ironically, he also resembles the Triumvirate from ''Shattered Soldier'' if you count the Relic of Moirai overwhelming them.]]
**** [[spoiler:Tiberius Invictus = [[VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy Chaos]] (or, if you prefer, Valentine from the final battle of ''Guilty Gear 2: Overture'', or Project C of ''Neo Contra'').]]
*** Some of the enemies too. There's one who resembles a Gigafly (from ''Contra III'', ''Shattered Soldier'' and ''Contra 4'') that tries to "kidnap" your character by taking them away to the top of the screen.
*** The Cerberus boss resembles Devil Emperor Gava, who [[RecurringBoss appears in other Contra titles]], but is much more mobile.
*** Both 573-Tigris and 573-Draconis (Kasuga series in the Japanese version) resemble the Magnus Tank series.
*** 573-Draconis from the end of stage 3, seems to be based on the blue battleship/submarine boss from the begining of the second stage in ''Contra: Shattered Soldier''. It also resembles the TIM Gunboat in ''Neo Contra''.
*** The Lux Corona resembles a combination of Rocket Ninja Sasaki (from ''Contra Rebirth'') and Great Awakening Robo Big Fuzz.
*** The transforming black robot from stage 6, looks, and behaves like a [[CompositeCharacter combination of]] Super Power Robot Yokozuna from ''Contra: Hard Corps/Shattered Soldier'', and the Heli-bot from the begining of stage 6 in ''Shattered Soldier''.
* ''[[VideoGame/DarkForcesSaga Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy]]'''s planet Blenjeel is based on the planet Arrakis from ''Literature/{{Dune}}''
* ''VideoGame/DeadIslandRiptide'' introduces us to Australian sailor John Morgan. Here's a [[http://images.wikia.com/x-men/images/3/30/Wolverine-marvel-huge-jackman.jpg photo]] of [[{{Wolverine}} who he looks like]] and how [[http://www.gamerassaultweekly.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/wmplayer-2013-04-22-15-26-45-31.jpg he actually appears in game.]]
* Most of the Psychopaths in ''VideoGame/DeadRising2'' are mix-and-match expys of the Psychopaths from ''VideoGame/DeadRising''.
* Belltower Heavies from ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'' wear armour that resembles bomb squad suits and bring MoreDakka, similar to the Juggernauts of ''ModernWarfare 2''.
* Tamagon and the Devil from ''VideoGame/DevilWorld'' are Expy precursors to Yoshi from ''VideoGame/SuperMarioWorld'' and red Aches in ''VideoGame/ZeldaIITheAdventureOfLink'', who not only resemble the ''Devil World'' characters in appearance but actually share some sound effects.
* Kurtis from ''VideoGame/DisgaeaHourOfDarkness'' was created as an expy / ShoutOut to Jet Link AKA Cyborg 002 from ''Manga/{{Cyborg 009}}''.
* ''VideoGame/DongDongNeverDie'' has so many that the game itself could be considered an Expy. Just a few of the more notable ones...
** Several of the stages are recreated expies of various [[{{Franchise/StreetFighter}} Street Fighter]] stages.
** The intro is more or less KingOfFighters 98.
** Dong Dong, Terminator, Sheng Hua Nang, and '''the entire plot''' are tied to Terminator2JudgmentDay.
** Ken is...[[{{Franchise/StreetFighter}} Ken]].
** Liu Mang seems to be a huge reference to ShaolinSoccer and {{Dodgeball}}.
** Mian Hua Tang summons [[{{Franchise/Transformers}} Optimus Prime]].
** On a related note, Xiao Pan wears an Autobot T-shirt, but otherwise has absolutely nothing to do with Transformers. Instead, he has [[{{Franchise/StreetFighter}} Guile's]] move set.
** Dong Dong, Violent Dong Dong, and Mario all have [[{{Franchise/StreetFighter}} Akuma's]] winpose. Oddly enough, [[GunNut Gouki]] doesn't.
** Fei Fei is basically a female [[KingOfFighters Iori Yagami]].
* [[BigBad Willy's]] [[TheDragon bodyguard]] Raymond in ''[[VideoGame/DoubleDragon Double Dragon Advance]]'' is based on the nameless final boss from the second NES game. While the Mysterious Warrior's fighting style from ''Double Dragon II'' was called "Gen-Satsu-Ken" (Phantom Murder Fist), Raymond's style is known as "Gen-Setsu-Ken" (Phantom Interception Fist).
** Duke, the BigBad of ''Super Double Dragon'', also resembles the Mysterious Warrior.
* The dragon in ''VisualNovel/DraKoi'' is an expy of Lala Satalin Deviluke from ''Manga/ToLoveRu'' in appearance, though her personality is only somewhat similar. They both have long pink hair and a very distinctive hat. In the case of the original, it's a shapeshifting robot. The dragon's hat just happens to look like it.
* Nearly all the agents in ''EliteBeatAgents'' were designed to be westernized versions of their Japanese counterparts in ''Ouendan''.
* ''EndlessFrontier'', a SpinOff of ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'', does this for nearly the entire cast:
** Kyosuke and Excellen -> [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Haken Browning and Kaguya Nanbu]]
** Lamia -> [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Aschen Brodel]]; justified, [[spoiler:as the latter is the former's predecessor (or, to a lesser extent, "older sister")]].
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Echidna Iisaki]] -> [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Cardia Basirissa]]
** Folka -> [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Aledy Nassh]]
** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Persoenlichkeit]] -> [[spoiler:[[EndlessFrontier Wahrschein Lichkeit]]]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Wodan Ymir]] -> [[spoiler:[[Characters/EndlessFrontier Gagun Laos/Gymnos Basileus]]]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Marion Radom]] -> [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Marion Sumii]]
** Like the ''64'' to ''Advance'' example, the mecha in ''Endless Frontier'' also pull this off: [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Alt Eisen Riese]] -> Alt Eisen Nacht; [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Ialdabaoth]] -> Ark-On; Soulgain -> Arkgain; [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Fairlion]] -> Fee-Kleid; [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Thrudgelmir]] -> [[spoiler:Svaiser]]; [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Weiss Ritter]] -> Weiss Ritter Abend
* Sally from the ''VideoGame/{{Fallout 3}}'' DLC ''Mothership Zeta'' resembles Sherry from ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2'', who in turn was based on Newt from ''Film/{{Aliens}}''.
** Not to mention the vast scores of raiders that make up the bulk of the enemies you face in the game look like they were plopped into the game straight from MadMax.
* ''VideoGame/FatalFury'': Rock Howard's moveset in SuperMode is based on Kaede from ''VideoGame/TheLastBlade''.
* Croix Raoul from ''VideoGame/LaPucelle'' looks an awful lot like Nicholas D. Wolfwood from {{Trigun}}
* Duke Snakeheart in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyTacticsA2'' bears a lot of similarities to Kefka from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'' since both characters seek power to rule over people and will commit atrocities and betrayals [[ItAmusedMe for the giggles]].
* While not applying to a Character, the double-barrelled Devestators of DuneII have an expy in all CommandAndConquer games to date save for Tiberian Sun, in the form of the Mammoth, Apocalypse and Overlord tanks.
* Reno from "VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII" and Axel from "VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII". Confirmed by {{Word Of God}}.
* Here's a ''really'' weird one. Okay, so there's this major character. They're the only child of a noble family, and they posses a [[CursedWithAwesome rare but dangerous power.]] At the beginning of their game, they're kidnapped by the person who will eventually become their love interest and spirited away to an opposing Empire - oddly enough, this Empire seems friendlier to them than their actual homeland. Eventually, the character suffers a huge mental trauma; they witness the [[spoiler: destruction of a city, and realize that it was their awesome power that indirectly caused it.]] Around the same time, they realize that [[spoiler: they're ''not'' really the noble family's child, but a nearly identical replacement of the real child, and on top of that, they're not even human; they're a different kind of being entirely.]] They spend the next little while in a combination HeroicRROD / HeroicBSOD, and are rendered both temporarily mute and restricted from battle. Eventually, the character decides to become more independent and make their own decisions, while atoning for their mistakes. The character borrows a knife from their love interest and gives themselves an ImportantHaircut, and from then on, they return to the party in full force. Now, does this describe [[spoiler: Princess Garnet]] in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX'' or [[spoiler: Luke fon Fabre]] in ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss?'' Aside from their genders, the similarities are ''uncanny.''
* ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXII'''s Balthier and Fran were created as the ''Final Fantasy'' series' take on Han Solo and Chewbacca from ''Franchise/StarWars''.
** It goes further than that. Vaan is very similar to Disney/{{Aladdin}}, Basch to [[Literature/LordOfTheRings Aragorn]] and Ashe to [[Film/StarWars Princess Leia]]. You also have Judge Gabranth who is insanely similar to [[Film/StarWars Darth Vader]].
* WordOfGod states that ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX2'''s [[TheStoic Paine]] was intended as a gender-bent version of Squall Leonhart from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII''.
** Ditto [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIII Lightning]], of [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Cloud Strife]].
* [[http://www.emu-france.com/images/news/2004/04-avril/05/ghostlop002.png Bruce and [=McCoy=],]] the protagonists of the unreleased Creator/DataEast game ''Ghostlop'', are basically TheBluesBrothers if they were a pair of ghost hunters. Similarly, their enemy Mushman (as seen in ''VideoGame/MagicalDrop V'') is pretty much a purple [[Film/GhostBusters Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man]].
* [[GSenjouMaou Maou]][[spoiler:/Kyouhei Samejima]] was built as an expy of Lelouch from ''Anime/CodeGeass'', down to having the [[Creator/JunFukuyama same voice actor]].
* Each of the Dickens sleuths in ''VideoGame/GuiltyParty'' draws direct inspiration from another famous detective character. Dorian "The Commodore" Dickens is Sherlock Holmes, with his vaguely British accent and deerstalker cap. Max Dickens is [[TheMalteseFalcon Sam Spade]], with his fedora and trenchcoat. His sister Phoebe, with her FBI badge and habit of being the [[OnlySaneMan only sane one]], is Agent Scully of ''Series/TheXFiles''. Her son Rudy "Kid Riddles" Dickens, the overenthusiastic child detective, is EncyclopediaBrown. On the Dickens-Johnson side of the family, Dorian's sister Charlotte Dickens is a [[LittleOldLadyInvestigates investigative little old lady]] in the mold of MissMarple. Her husband, Butch Johnson, is a tall, imposing man in the mold of {{Shaft}} (daaaamn right). And their adoptive daughter Ling Ling Dickens-Johnson is a smart, analytical teenaged girl in the mold of NancyDrew.
* Much of ''HarukanaruTokiNoNakaDe 2'''s cast are expies of characters from the original storyline.
** Yasuaki -> Abe no Yasutsugu
** Fuji-hime -> [[HalfIdenticalTwins Yukari-hime]] [[TalkingToHimself & Misono]]
* Eboshidori, the first boss of ''{{Ikaruga}}'' was based off the [[Film/{{Aliens}} Xenomorph Queen]].
* ''VideoGame/InazumaEleven GO'' plays this with the manager trio, Sorano Aoi, Seto Midori, and Yamana Akane are expies to the prequel's Aki Kino, Raimon Natsumi, and Otonoshi Haruna.
** The commentator Kakuma Ayumu is this to Kakuma Keita. After all, they're brothers that have a common interest and share the same VA.
* White haired half-demon who fights demons using a sword he inherited from his legendary demon father. His brother, similarly white haired and wielding a sword inherited from their father, who fell in love with a human woman before his death. A thousand points for anyone who can identify whether this description is of {{Inuyasha}} or {{Devil May Cry}}'s Dante.
* Riku from ''Franchise/KingdomHearts'' have his characteristics coming from Yui Hongo of ''Manga/FushigiYuugi''. Both are best friends of the main character (Sora and Miaka), [[FaceHeelTurn sided]] [[RivalTurnedEvil with the villain]] (Maleficent and Nakago) [[IDidWhatIHadToDo just to get a desired person]] (Kairi and Tamahome), [[HeelFaceTurn turn good]] at the cost of being [[HijackedByGanon taken over by the main villain]] (Ansem and Seiryuu), and after getting out of this mess, become TheAtoner. They also have their hairs growing long in the sequel series.
* Lololo and Lalala (aka Fololo and Falala) from the ''VideoGame/{{Kirby}}'' series are based on Lolo and his girlfriend Lala from the ''VideoGame/AdventuresOfLolo'' series, having almost identical character designs; Lolo and Lala have mouths, while Lololo and Lalala do not (as they are based on Lolo and Lala's sprite artwork, where their mouths are generally InvisibleAnatomy).
* Creator/ChrisAvellone stated he created Kreia from ''[[VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic Knights Of The Old Republic II]]'' because he "thought it would be cool to be in an adventuring party with [[VideoGame/PlanescapeTorment Ravel Puzzlewell]]!".
** ''[[StarWarsExpandedUniverse By The Emperor's Hand]]'' introduces us to Mara Jade. Mira in the second game is an expy of Mara, right down to wearing one of the outfits Mara did in the comic.
* Jinx in ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'' is according to WordOfGod a {{Rule 63}} Expy of the ''WesternAnimation/BatmanTheAnimatedSeries'' version of the Joker. Although there's also quite a lot of ComicBook/TankGirl in there.
* Ellis from from ''VideoGame/Left4Dead2'' is based around designs for the Scout from ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2''.
** Louis also has his clothes and background being an almost duplicate of the title character from ''ShaunOfTheDead''. Once Louis and the other survivors from the first game were made available in the second game, the resemblance is even more similar once you give Louis a cricket bat.
* Kholdstare from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast'' greatly resembles Kracko from the ''{{Kirby}}'' series.
* Yuga from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkBetweenWorlds'' is basically a mixture of Agahnim from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast'' and Ghirahim from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword''. Like the former, he's trying to revive Ganon, captures Maidens, is fought before you enter the Dark World equivalent and is a mysterious magician from nowhere. Like the latter, he shares an effeminate appearance, a need to revive his master, is the boss of the first dungeon and is fought three times throughout the adventure.
* Groose from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword'' bears a striking resemblance to Wakka from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyX'' and even goes through similar character developments.
** There's also Ciela from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass''. She looks exactly like and even has the exact same voice as [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime Navi!]]
* Malladus from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSpiritTracks'' is a blatant one of Ganon from the rest of the series. Demon King? Check. Wants to conquer the world? Check. Possesses the princess? Check. Has an evil [[TheDragon second in command]] who's trying to revive/unseal him? Check. Looks like a giant blue pig/boar creature? Yep. Heck, he's even defeated by Link and Zelda working together and using the Light Arrows, complete with a death involving being stabbed through the forehead with a magical sword. Indeed, he's so much like this you could probably replace him with Ganon and not have to edit the story one jot.
** Due to the cast being {{Identical Grandson}}s of any similar-named character, technically every Zelda, Link, etc. from a Zelda game that is not explicitly a direct continuation of another is an {{Expy}} and not a returning character.
* Cuisses, the TeamPet who can eat skill stones to fuse them from {{Level 5}}'s ''JeanneDArc'' was made as an {{Expy}} of the TeamPet Toad from {{Level 5}}'s ''RogueGalaxy''.
* Kyousuke of ''VisualNovel/LittleBusters'' is clearly based on Yoshino Yuusuke from ''VisualNovel/{{CLANNAD}}'', both having similar hairstyles, voices, and names, and propensities for inexplicably charismatic speeches about love or friendship or hope in totally mundane situations. However, they're far from the same character - for example, where Yuusuke is always totally serious and stoic, Kyousuke is much more overdramatic and expressive and happy. Most of all, Kyousuke comes across as something of an expansion on Yuusuke's character, as while Yuusuke only ever had a minor role at best in ''VisualNovel/{{CLANNAD}}'', being mostly a one-off joke, Kyousuke is absolutely integral to the plot of ''VisualNovel/LittleBusters'' and gets a whole lot more character development.
* The VillainProtagonist of ''VideoGame/{{Lucius}}'' is clearly an Expy of Damien from ''Film/TheOmen''. (In fact, the game is pretty much ''Omen: The Video Game''.)
* Within it's own universe, ''VideoGame/MegaMan'' has several expies
** Several of the Mavericks from X1 could be considered expies of the Mega Man 1 Robot Masters
*** Cutman -> Boomer Kuwanger
*** Gutsman -> Armored Armadillo
*** Iceman -> Chill Penguin
*** Fireman -> Flame Mammoth
*** Elecman -> Spark Mandrill
** In the same vein, The new Robot Masters from Mega Man and Bass could be considered expies of the Robot Masters from the first game
*** Iceman -> Coldman
*** Fireman -> Burnerman
*** Gutsman -> Groundman
*** Elecman -> Dynamoman
*** Bombman -> Pirateman
*** Cutman -> Magicman
* Many characters in ''VideoGame/MegaManStarForce'' are expies of ones from ''VideoGame/MegaManBattleNetwork''.
** Lan -> Geo Stelar
** Dex -> Bud Bison
** Mayl -> Sonia Strumm
** Yai -> Luna Platz
** Chaud / [=ProtoMan=] + Bass -> Solo / Rogue
* HideoKojima created ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'''s Meryl Silverburgh as an {{Expy}} of the Meryl Silverburgh from his earlier game ''VisualNovel/{{Policenauts}}'', who in turn was created as an Expy[=/=]DistaffCounterpart of Solid Snake from his even ''earlier'' game ''VideoGame/MetalGear''.
** Kojima also later exported a {{Race Lift}}ed Benson Cunningham from ''VisualNovel/{{Snatcher}}'' to''VideoGame/MetalGearSolidPortableOps''.
** And Dr. Pettrovich Madnar, the Metal Gear engineer in ''VideoGame/MetalGear'' and ''VideoGame/MetalGear2SolidSnake'', was exported to be the head of the Frankenstein Project in ''Snatcher''.
* Drebin from ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4'' to the Smuggler from ''VideoGame/DeusEx''. Both are shades-wearing black men who do questionably legal defeating of biometrics. They even have the same voice actor.
* ''VideoGame/MightyNo9'', being made by Franchise/MegaMan creator Creator/KeijiInafune sans the actual rights to the series, has Mega Man and Roll being substituted with heroes Beck and Call.
* Many of your units (and the enemy units) in ''VideoGame/MiniRobotWars'' are expies of plants and zombies from ''VideoGame/PlantsVsZombies''.
* ''VideoGame/MitsumeteKnight'', a SpiritualSuccessor of ''[[TokimekiMemorial Tokimeki Memorial]] 1'' made by the same Creator/{{Konami}} team as ''[=TM1=]'', had a few Expies in its cast:
** Lesley, of Ayako Katagiri: they share the same specific personality traits unique to their character, i.e. an obsessive love for painting, and [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes a horrible fear of water]] which plays an important role in some special Events and dates at swimming locations;
** [[RichBitch Linda]], of [[AlphaBitch Mira Kagami]]: they have the same hair color, the same [[AlphaBitch haughty voice]] [[WellExcuseMePrincess and attitude]], a similar NoblewomansLaugh, and [[spoiler: comparable HiddenDepths]]);
** [[AristocratsAreEvil Johan]], of [[AloofBigBrother Rei Ijuin]]: they both act as the rival of their respective games' protagonists; both are heirs of very rich and influencial families, and they share the same arrogant and ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney attitudes, along with [[SuckMyRose a love of showing off with roses]]).
* Pictured: Ninten and Ness, both from the ''[[VideoGame/{{MOTHER}} MOTHER/Earthbound]]'' franchise. In fact, most of your party in ''VideoGame/EarthBound'' serve as expies of the party from ''[[VideoGame/MOTHER1 Earthbound Zero]]''.
** Ninten, Ana, and Lloyd -> Ness, Paula, and Jeff
* The rabbit Marquis de Hoto from ''VideoGame/TheNightOfTheRabbit'' is an expy from the rabbit of Literature/AlicesAdventuresInWonderland. In both works a kid follows a rabbit into a magical world.
* VideoGame/{{Nefarious}} has Princess Mayapple, who is pretty much [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Princess Peach]] by another name, sharing the same style outfit she has, as well as the same dynamic with Crow that Peach has with Bowser. Albeit, she's a tad bit more [[DeadpanSnarker snarkier]] about her frequent kidnappings by him than Peach is.
* Many of the [=COs=] in ''[[VideoGame/NintendoWars Advance Wars: Day of Ruin]]'' are similar in personality and/or abilities to those from the previous games.
** Jake -> Will
** Sonja -> Lin
** Eagle -> Tasha
** Lash -> Penny
* ''{{Nostalgia}}'' has Doctor Brown, who looks like Franchise/IndianaJones with a BadassMoustache.
* ''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}'''s Teddie, who was designed as a DeconReconSwitch of the classic Japanese children's character {{Doraemon}}.
** Teddie's [[spoiler: human form]] on the other hand is an Expy of [[spoiler: Ryoji Mochizuki]] from {{Persona 3}}, in personality, personal struggle and partially their eventual role in the story. The biggest difference, however, is that the former manages to avert falling victim to the same fate the later fell to by the end of the game - but just barely.
** Rise Kujikawa of ''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}'' is an expy of Lisa Silverman from {{Persona 2}} in everything expect the later's love for Kung Fu (which went to Chie Satonaka instead). They even share the same default Arcana (Lovers) and early concept art of Rise looks like Lisa with a slightly more Asian look. It also helps that their names sound very similar in Japanese (Rise VS Risa).
** And then there's Yosuke Hanamura (''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}''), who starts out as a complete expy of Junpei Iori (''VideoGame/{{Persona 3}}'') to the point that they even have some of the same lines early in the game. (The Artbook has the designer admit that he intentionally designed Yosuke to look more youthful than Junpei because he got annoyed with how much the rest of development team was treating him as essentially "Junpei 2.0".) However, as both of them eventually come into their own in different ways, Yosuke being a complete Expy is ultimately averted.
* In ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'':
** Most of the male protagonists are expies of the original hero, Red. Ethan, Brendan, and Lucas take after his original design while Hilbert, Nate, and Calem take after his modern one. The latter two are also expies of Hilbert, most obviously with Nate.
** N from ''VideoGame/PokemonBlackAndWhite'' takes after Kaworu of ''Manga/NeonGenesisEvangelion''.
** Throughout the series, species have tended to repeat themselves as well:
*** Most infamously, SeriesMascot Pikachu has had a new cheerful, circle-cheeked, FragileSpeedster electric rodent just like it in every generation, in order: Pichu, Plusle and Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, Dedenne.
*** Every generation except 6 has a small, cute, [[LostForever unobtainable]] legendary with [[JackOfAllStats an even spread of 100 among all stats]]. In order: Mew, Celebi, Jirachi, Manaphy, Shaymin, and Victini. To further the pattern, all but two, Manaphy and Shaymin, are at least part-Psychic-types.
*** The earlier routes are known for having a number of recurring patterns in the ComMons, such as with the Normal Rodents[[note]]Rattata, Sentret, Zigzagoon, Bidoof, Patrat, Bunnelby[[/note]] and the Normal/Flying Birds[[note]]Pidgey, Starly, and Pidove along with Spearow, Hoothoot, and Taillow[[/note]]. ''X and Y'' has noticed the pattern and subverted it; Bunnelby evolves into Diggersby, a ''[[NauseaFuel really not cute]]'' Normal/Ground type who's a MightyGlacier rather than a FragileSpeedster, and Fletchling, who at first appears to be the Normal/Flying bird, evolves into Talonflame, a Fire/Flying type who's [[DiskOneNuke one of the deadliest non-legendary pokémon in existence]].
*** ''Black and White'' was known for completely wiping the pokédex up to that point to fill the region with new species. While this has had [[BrokenBase different results depending on who you ask]], the Roggenrolla[[note]]Expy of Geodude, a three-stage rock-type that had the ability Sturdy and had its final stage evolve by trade[[/note]], Woobat[[note]]A [[GoddamnedBats very common bat]] that confused opponents like Zubat[[/note]], Audino[[note]]A pink, fluffy MetalSlime that spreads joy and commonly works in medicine, like Chansey[[/note]], Timburr[[note]]A three-stage fighting-type with very high attack and has the last stage evolve through trade, like Machop[[/note]], Throh/Sawk[[note]]Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan, twin fighting types which looked similar but had different focuses, along with the fact that you could only have one of the two[[/note]], and Bouffalant[[note]]A normal-type bovine that strongly resembles Tauros with an afro[[/note]] lines seem oddly familiar.
* ''VideoGame/{{Prototype}}'''s Blackwatch was created as an expy of Blue Unit from Creator/StephenKing's ''Dreamcatcher''.
* Randy and Andy, the Dragon Twins from ''VideoGame/RiverCityRansom'', are based on Billy and Jimmy Lee, right down to using their same theme music. The reference was even more blatant in the Japanese version, ''[[KunioKun Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari]]'', where Randy and Andy's Japanese counterparts were [[DubNameChange originally named]] Ryūichi and Ryūji Hattori (their names meaning First Dragon and Second Dragon).
* In ''VideoGame/{{Robopon}}'', ''Robopon 64'' had you play as expies of Cody and Bisco, the hero and his rival from the GBC games.
* Red and Blue from ''VideoGame/SagaFrontier'' were based on characters of the same name from ''TreasureHunterG''.
* The titular SeriousSam is pretty much the equally titular DukeNukem without all the sexual and toilet humor (but still with plenty of cheesy one-liners.) This, plus the fact that the first game came out the same year that 3D Realms announced "DukeNukemForever will be done when it's done" could be used to argue that the former is a SpiritualSuccessor to the latter (especially when DukeNukemForever bombed horribly, while Serious Sam 3 fared considerably better.)
* Anne Lafitte of ''VideoGame/ShadowHearts: From The New World'', is basically Anastasia from ''Covenant'' .
** To say nothing of Lady and Killer, who are basically evil Alice and Yuri.
* Both {{Miko}} SHMUP Heroines Sayo Yuuki from ''VideoGame/CastleOfShikigami'' and Reimu Hakurei from ''VideoGame/{{Touhou}}'' are said to be based on Sayo-chan/Pocky from Kiki Kaikai/Pocky and Rocky.
* The Butcher in ''VideoGame/SilentHillOrigins'' and the Bogeyman in ''SilentHillHomecoming'' are expies of Pyramid Head in ''SilentHill2''.
** It goes beyond just being an Expy in Homecoming; the Bogeyman is more or less just Pyramid Head renamed.
* Drachma from ''VideoGame/SkiesOfArcadia'' was created as an expy of Captain Ahab from the classic ''Literature/MobyDick''.
* Dr. Eggman's robot companions in ''VideoGame/SonicColors'', Orbot and Cubot, strangely resemble Decoe and Bocoe from ''Anime/SonicX'', who themselves are expies of Scratch and Grounder from ''WesternAnimation/AdventuresOfSonicTheHedgehog''.
** Shade and the Nocturnus from ''VideoGame/SonicChronicles'' are quite obviously based on Julie-Su and the Dark Legion from Archie's ''ComicBook/SonicTheHedgehog''.
** [[GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere King Boom Boo]] and his minions in ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure2'' are the series equivalent of King Boo and his minions in ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' series.
* Gigadis and Kuu(-chan) from ''Sorcery Saga'' are ''extremely'' transparent stand-ins for Satan and Carbuncle from the earlier ''Madou Monogatari'' titles and ''VideoGame/PuyoPuyo''. We also have stand-ins for Rulue and Schezo, but Pupuru is not intelligent or sarcastic enough to be a proper Arle expy.
* ''SpyroTheDragon'' is this to ''SonicTheHedgehog''. Spyro and Sonic are animal protagonists (Spyro is a PartiallyCivilizedAnimal dragon and Sonic is a FunnyAnimal hedgehog) whose names begin with "S" and the rest of their series title is "The *Species*". They're both MascotWithAttitude's from TheNineties who were mascots to duel consoles (Sonic for the SegaSaturn and Spyro for the SonyPlaystation) that have since gone multi-platform. Both ''Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog'' and ''SpyroTheDragon'' are colorful platform series. Sonic and Spyro both have tag-along best friends, but Sparx is a lot more essential to Spyro as he serves as the health meter and is far less anthropomorphic than Tails.
** Ember, introduced in from ''SpyroAHerosTail'', is this to Amy. Ember is a SmittenTeenageGirl with an unrequited crush who is pink and the same species as Spyro, a dragon. Amy is a SmittenTeenageGirl with an unrequited crush who is pink and the same species as Sonic, a hedgehog.
* Nel Zelpher from ''StarOceanTillTheEndOfTime'' was created to be an expy of Phia from ''StarOcean1''. Phia's combat style in the PSP UpdatedRerelease of ''StarOcean1'' was even reworked to be more like Nel's later on.
* WordOfGod says Grand Master Meio from ''VideoGame/{{Strider}}'' was inspired by [[Literature/TheLordOfTheRings Sauron]].
** Solo is one to Boba Fett.
* [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]], [[DistressedDamsel Pauline]] and VideoGame/DonkeyKong started as expies of ComicStrip/{{Popeye}}, Olive Oyl and Bluto, after Nintendo [[http://www.cracked.com/article_18530_5-pop-culture-classics-created-out-laziness.html lost the arcade rights to Popeye.]]
* ''VideoGame/NiNoKuni'' has Marcassin, who is an absolute dead ringer for [[HowlsMovingCastle Howl.]] In the English version, he even spends his first few moments on screen hiding his face, complaining about how "hideous" he is--just like Howl does! (This ''is'' StudioGhibli, however, who are known for their StarSystems.)
** There's also the Toko class of creatures, who are an obvious [[MyNeighborTotoro Totoro]] expy, especially Chibi-Totoro.
* From ''VideoGame/{{Roommates}}'', Isabella greatly resembles a [[VideoGame/DragonAgeII certain Rivaini pirate]] and, for all intents and purposes, could be seen as a [[AmbiguouslyBrown modern-day]] [[HardDrinkingPartyGirl college]] [[BiTheWay equivalent]]. Rakesh may put people in mind of [[Series/TheBigBangTheory another quirky Indian fellow]] [[NamesTheSame with a one-letter difference in his name]].[[note]]It doesn't help that the two letters are side-by-side on a standard QWERTY keyboard, making it ''extremely'' easy to mistype one for the other.[[/note]]
* The ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars'' series seems to be a magnet this for many of its characters and HumongousMecha:
** [[Characters/MasouKishin Masaki Andoh and the Cybuster]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsZ Asakim Dowin and the Shurouga]]
** [[Manga/AhMyGoddess Belldandy (and the series in general)]] -> [[Characters/MasouKishin Tytti Noorbuck and the Gaddeath]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Kyosuke Nanbu and Excellen Browning]] -> [[VideoGame/NamcoXCapcom Reiji Arisu and Xiaomu]][[note]]Unsurprisingly, the games for both pairs had the same director.[[/note]]
*** [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Alt Eisen]] -> [[MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha Vita]]; her [[InstantArmor barrier jacket]] is predominantly red and black (with some white highlights), her [[EmpathicWeapon armed device]] is called "Graf ''Eisen''" which, while a hammer, functions as a barrier-piercing PileBunker via spending cartridges and also has the power to attack her enemies with tons of iron balls.
*** Alt Eisen -> [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Flickerei Geist]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Lamia Loveless]] -> [[MagicalGirlLyricalNanoha Signum]]
*** Lamia -> [[VideoGame/TalesOfHearts Richia Spodune and Kunzite]]; the former shares her [[Creator/KaoriShimizu voice actor]], green hair and {{Stripperiffic}} outfit, the latter her ArtificialHuman RobotGirl background, TheStoic personality and similar TinMan to BecomeARealBoy story.
** [[SakigakeOtokojuku Juzo Akashi]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Sanger Zonvolt]]
*** Sanger -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsJudgment Al-Van Lunks]], since Sanger's a {{samurai}} and Al-Van's a KnightInShiningArmor lunarian equivalent.
** [[{{Gunbuster}} Kazumi Amano]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Sleigh Presty]]
** BruceLee -> [[FistOfTheNorthStar Kenshiro]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Folka Albark]]
*** [[FistOfTheNorthStar Raoh]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Alkaid Nassh]]
*** [[FistOfTheNorthStar Shin and/or Jagi]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Fernando Albark]]
*** [[FistOfTheNorthStar Jyuza of the Clouds]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Alion Lucada]]
*** [[FistOfTheNorthStar Toki and/or Shuren of the Flames]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact3 Altis Tarl]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Selena Recital]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsJudgment Calvina Coulange]]
** [[HadesProjectZeorymer Miku]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsL AL-3 Alice]]
** [[Characters/MasouKishin Lubbikka Heinken]] and/or [[LightNovel/FullMetalPanic Gauron]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Archibald Grims]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Tempest Hawker]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Lee Linjun]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Euzeth Gozzo]] -> [[spoiler:[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Arteil Steinbeck]], due to MesACrowd]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsZ Xine Espio]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsZ Marguerite Pistail]]
** [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Agilla Setme]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsZ Anbrorn Jeus]]
** The Prince of ''[[OscarWilde The Happy Prince]]'' -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsZ Uther Insaraum]]
*** The swallow in ''The Happy Prince'' -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsZ Marilyn Catto]]
** Aside from the Hermodr battleship and Zyflud, none of the Balmarian mecha in ''VideoGame/ShinSuperRobotWars'' reappear in future [=SRWs=]. However, the Zadoc and Cees in ''Shin'' are most likely the base designs of the Zechariah and Megillot from ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha''.
** The multiplying, regenerative qualities of the Machine Cells from ''Alpha Gaiden'' are the [=SRW=] equivalent of [[Anime/MobileFighterGGundam DG Cells]].
** [[Anime/NeonGenesisEvangelion Human Instrumentality Project]] -> [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration ODE System]], albeit a cybernetic version
** Each of the original mecha in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWars64'' are essentially slightly redesigned and recolored for the ones in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAdvance'': Earthgain -> Soulgain; Super Earthgain -> Zweizergain, Virose -> Vysaga; Simurgh Splendid -> Angelg; Soldifar and Ashcleef -> Ash Savior; Svanhild -> Laz Angriff; Rathgrith Custom -> Laz Angriff Raven[[note]]Laz Angriff Raven, however, only appears in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration''[[/note]].
** [[{{Gravion}} God Gravion/Sol Gravion]] -> [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Compatible Kaiser/G Compatible Kaiser]]; in this case, ''{{Gravion}}'' creator, designer and director Masami Obari was asked by developer Banpresto to give the Kaiser a new look.
** [[HadesProjectZeorymer Zeorymer]] -> [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsL Rushbird]], complete with a [[spoiler:dimensional manipulating RobotGirl co-pilot]].
** [[DancougarNova R-Daigun]] -> [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsL Straybird]]
** {{GaoGaiGar}} -> [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsZ Gunleon]], a lion-themed mecha that [[ImprobableWeaponUser uses construction tools as weapons]] with a really [[{{BFS}} BIG]] one as its most powerful and associated with/powered by a green-colored energy source.
** Anime/MazingerZ -> Grungust series
** {{Franchise/Gundam}} -> Huckebein series; this example is rather infamous, as the entire mech family [[DroppedABridgeOnHim got bridge'd]] in ''[[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration 2nd Original Generations]]'' after {{Sunrise}} complained about the similarities. This resulted in the creation of the [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute Exbein]], which is about 99% identical to the old Huckebeins, lacking only the most blatant Gundam design elements.
* ''VideoGame/SwordOfTheStars'' has a few: Several Grand Menaces carry inspiration from earlier sources. The Puppet Master is based on the Beast from ''VideoGame/{{Homeworld}}: Cataclysm'' (which was made by the team that would become KP). The System Killer reminds one of the [[PlanetEater The Doomsday Machine]] from ''Series/{{Star Trek|The Original Series}}: TOS''. The Peacekeeper is based on the spaceship in ''Film/TheDayTheEarthStoodStill1951''.
* [=SolForce=] from ''VideoGame/SwordOfTheStars'' is one for [=EarthForce=] from ''Series/BabylonFive''. The name and functions are similar, the backstory of [=SolForce=] involves a democratic administration being suborned by jingoist militants that eventually get pushed back, just like the other, and the creators have even admitted to being fans of the show.
** The Bloodweaver aka He Who Shapes is the most paternal of the Suul'ka and the most adept at biological warfare. The Zuul females under him are constantly in pain and warped in form. Doesn't that sound like [[TabletopGame/{{Warhammer 40000}} Grandpa Nurgle]]?
** The Loa to the spirits in real life Haitian Religion, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loa. Hardly surpriseing, as most races have some kind of historical analogue and the Lore writer is trained in historical anthropology.
** Despite [[Franchise/{{Ghostbusters}} the name]], the Zuul are more like the Reavers from ''Series/{{Firefly}}''. Ramshackle ships, into abduction, piracy and slaving, have a taste for rape ([[MindRape mental]], not physical, which isn't much better) and murder, make lots of use of grappling harpoons and {{Boarding Part|y}}ies...
* Flynn from ''VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia'' looks a heck of a lot like Guy from ''VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss''. WordOfGod is that they wanted to experiment by putting a similar design on someone with a completely different role.
* Milla from ''VideoGame/TalesOfXillia'' bears similarities to [[VideoGame/TalesOfPhantasia Dhaos]], having a mastery of four basic magic elements, and also having a mission to destroy the technology that's disrupting her world's mana. Appropriately, she gets his outfit as a costume.
** Dhaos gets a second, villainous Expy in the sequel in the form of Khronos, who possesses all of his signature moves (Tetra Spell, Tetra Assault, Khronos Corridor/Laser), and harbors a similar disdain for humanity. It's likely a nod to the fact that a renamed Dhaos served as the Craymel of Time in ''VideoGame/TalesOfEternia'' (Khronos being the prime spirit of time in Xillia's universe).
* ''TechRomancer'', being an homage to mecha anime, has Expies out the wazoo, for both the mechs and their pilots.
** G. Kaiser = {{Mazinger Z}}
*** Junpei Todoriki = [[{{Mazinger Z}} Kouji Kabuto]]
** Dixen = Various [[{{Gundam}} Gundams]], particularly [[MobileSuitZGundam Zeta Gundam]] and [[CharsCounterattack Nu Gundam]].
*** Nakato = [[MobileSuitGundam Amuro Ray]]
*** Halma = [[{{Gunbuster}} Noriko Takaya]]
** Pulsion = {{Ultraman}} (in terms of plot and fighting style) + [[NeonGenesisEvangelion Evangelion]] (in terms of design and weapons)
** Rafaga = [[TransformingMecha Valkyries/Veritech Fighters]] from ''{{Macross}}''/''{{Robotech}}''
*** Simon Harvard = [[{{Robotech}} Roy Fokker]]
** Twinzam V = GetterRobo
** Diana-17 = [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ariel_%28anime%29 ARIEL]]
*** Reika Amamiya = a female [[MobileFighterGGundam Domon Kasshu]]
** Wise Duck = Various western-style mecha, such as MetalGear and the mechs from ''MechWarrior''
** Bolon = [[{{Mazinger Z}} Boss Borot]]
** Gourai = [[TheBraveFighterOfLegendDaGarn Red Geist]]
*** ...and Shadow Red is a blatant CharClone.
* Carley from ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'' is an expy of Rebecca Chang from ''VideoGame/DeadRising2''. Both women are pistol-toting [[HotScoop attractive reporters]] who wear the same outfits (a white buttoned shirt, black skirt and matching slippers/heels), and they both [[spoiler:die very shocking and sudden deaths from being shot in the head.]]
* Arthas of ''VideoGame/{{Warcraft}} III'' was inspired by [[TheElricSaga Elric of Melniboné]], and [[EvilWeapon Frostmourne]] by Stormbringer.
* The Quarter Knights in the original ''[[VideoGame/WildArms Wild Arms]]'' are based on the Sinistrals / Four Mad Gods from the Lufia / Estpolis series.
* According to top Creator/BioWare writer David Gaider, BW's writers build characters by taking ones from other works and reworking their names and backstories.
** [[VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins Alistair]] for example was heavily based on Xander from ''Series/BuffyTheVampireSlayer''.[[note]]This is why they chose the name Alistair, it's the Scottish form of Alexander.[[/note]]
** Vette from ''VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic'' is an egregious case; same species (blue Twi'lek), personality, and ''voice actress'' as [[VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic Mission Vao]]. The main difference is that Vette's "of age" and a romanceable option.
** Bioware characters also tend to be expies of each other, often sharing personality types, abilities and backstories. [[http://www.cracked.com/funny-3872-bioware/ This]] ''Cracked'' article points out a few.
** [[VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic Bastila]] is essentially a carbon copy of [[VideoGame/NeverwinterNights Aribeth]],
** [[VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins Shale]] is [[VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic HK-47]] but made of rock.
* The Planet Buster in {{Spore}} is an expendable item which is essentially a "[[StarWars Destroy Alderaan Button]]". Of course, just like its source, the Planet Buster will make everyone in the galaxy hate/fear you.
* FireEmblem, to the notorious degree, as there are so many simillar characters fandom categorized them into [[http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Archetype archetypes.]]
* The main character of [[VideoGame/OneThousandAndOneSpikes 1001 Spikes]], Aban, is pretty much IndianaJones with anger and daddy issues. Also, one of alternate-colour sprites bears an uncanny resemblance to [[LaMulana Lemeza Kosugi.]]
