* In ''WebVideo/AdventuresInJediSchool'', a case is made that you don't necessarily have to be evil to wield The Dark Side of the Force. Principle Eval — who is very obviously Sith — doesn't do anything evil, and demonstrates that the Dark Side can have neutral applications, like using Force-Lightning to make a campfire.
* ''Literature/{{ARCHON}}'''s [[http://www.archonseries.webs.com/loreraces.htm extra lore]] states that the Culled, despite being undead, viciously fought against their former {{Necromancer}} masters in order to prevent other people from being cursed as they were.
* In ''Roleplay/{{Avatar High}}'', Eldritch beings like Azathoth regularly help protect the Multiverse.
* In ''WebVideo/CriticalRole'', the Raven Queen is the goddess of death. Fittingly, she has a CreepyCrows motif and an imposing presence. However, she is not a force of evil: her commandments declare that death is a natural conclusion to life, that those who have passed should not be pitied but exalted, and that necromancy is an aberration that cannot be tolerated. [[spoiler:When Vax'ildan is slain by the dreaded archlich Vecna, the Raven Queen offered him a chance to return to life for a time, long enough to defeat Vecna. After Vecna is sealed away, she comes to collect Vax'ildan to serve as her champion, but affords him the time he needs to say his final farewells, and lets him see his mother once he crosses over.]]
* ''Roleplay/FireEmblemOnForums'': As in the original series, mastery of Dark magic does not necessarily mean evil, and many player characters who wield Dark magic are benevolent.
** ''[[Roleplay/FireEmblemOnForumsDemonSoulSaga Demon Soul Saga]]'': The protagonists; they are all demonic Kaijin with very monstrous, terrifying alternate forms. Yet they're members of the benevolent Helper's Club and work to protect people by defeating Akuma. Scathach and [=Fantomas/Mori=] fit this more than most; their Kaijin forms are heavily dark-colored, but Scathach acts as TheMentor to the protagonists and Fantomas is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold in both forms.
** ''[[Roleplay/FireEmblemOnForumsChainsOfHorai Chains of Horai]]'': Any benevolent user of a [[CastingAShadow Nox]] Gnosis by default, and also Mao, the god of shadows, pleasures and vice, who is morally neutral at worst due to his emphasis on being TheHedonist.
** ''[[Roleplay/FireEmblemOnForumsWonderfulBlessing Wonderful Blessing]]'': The goddess Discordia, goddess of chaos who wears primarily black, is a sweet woman who masquerades as a cleric to help out at orphanages and tries to help the protagonists uncover TheConspiracy.
** ''[=FEF1=]'': Chris; he genuinely believes he's TheSoulless and is a dark, skilled assassin. However, he's one of the heroes, helps take down the BigBad and spends his absence from the party [[spoiler: annihilating the cult that ruined his and Ami's childhood]].
* Louie and [[spoiler: Ian Von Helson]] from ''Website/GaiaOnline'', as they are vampires.
* In ''Roleplay/TheGamersAlliance'', some of the demons such as Omaroch and Ronove are not as bad as one might think. The [[TheOrder Forgotten]] are not as villainous as the [[CorruptChurch Clergy of Mardük]] even though both worship the dark god Mardük.
* One of the main characters, Orpheus, in the audio play {{Podcast/Guiders of our Dreams}} is Guider, or controller of Darkness itself. He is surprisingly a very friendly guy, besides the fact that he could unleash all hell.
* ''WebVideo/StopSkeletonsFromFighting'': As the cheerful optimistic ''The Happy Video Game Nerd'' Derek wears a black shirt, as opposed to the Creator/JamesRolfe[='=]s white shirt as the bitter pessimistic ''WebVideo/AngryVideoGameNerd''.
* In the ''Roleplay/LeagueOfIntergalacticCosmicChampions'' Sailor Evil, aka Shadow Senshi, had darkness based powers, but was good... it was just her last name that was Evil.
** The Elves and Glombies, too.
* ''{{Website/Lioden}}'': The Harbinger is an enormous, terrifying MixAndMatchCreature with multiple horns, sharp claws, and jet-black fur that clawed itself up out of the ground to announce the approaching end of the world. Despite that, it not only bears no ill-will towards Earth but actively tries to help you figure out what’s going on and how to stop it.
* The CreepyPasta "Love" features a haunting by a ghost that [[spoiler: actually turns out to be benevolent. The protagonist's father was a Sergeant that died in the line of duty and the ghost was a loyal solider that died alongside him keeping a promise he made to him to protect his daughter should something ever happen to him. On her 18th birthday he deems his final order complete and leaves her a letter before crossing over.]]
* The monsters of ''Website/{{Mortasheen}}'' are grotesque, no doubt, but very few of them can actually be considered evil. In fact, quite a few of them were genetically engineered to be helpful to society.
* The Darkness Faeries in ''{{Website/Neopets}}''. Although even other fairies consider them evil, most of them are misunderstood and mischievious at worst, although they still seem to have an edge in the "evil" ratio as a group. There are many Neopians that even suspect that Queen Fyora herself is a Darkness Faerie promoted as queen, due to her name ending in the same sound as Jhudora and Jennumara, two Darkness Faeries (at least one of them, Jennumara, is actually evil. Jhudora might be just a bigass poser that might hug puppies when nobody else is looking... Or not).
** One darkness faerie in Neoquest II states that they are not evil, just ChaoticNeutral.
** Then you have the [[{{Mordor}} Darigan Citadel]], who were GoodAllAlong in the first war. They only attacked Meridell because they stole the orb; however, [[RousseauWasRight Meridell did not mean any harm and was trying to bring prosperity to their own people.]] At least, if you take [[FatBastard King Skarl's]] word. When Lord Kass took over after [[NobleDemon Lord Darigan's]] death, however...
** There are a lot of other examples as well. [[CuteWitch Sophie the Swamp Witch]], Prince Jazan and [[HellishHorse Nightsteed]]...
* The ''Website/SCPFoundation'' houses [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-040 SCP-040]], a CreepyChild with the ability to combine living creatures together into anomalous chimeras, and can even use living organisms to reanimate dead ones. However, she's also a polite little 8-year-old girl who likes to watch ''WesternAnimation/RubyGloom'', keeps three of her creations as beloved pets, and is scared of using her powers on humans.
** [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-1810 SCP-1810]], Mr. Pierrot, is a humanoid creature completely covered in black cloth who is obsessed with caring for and protecting children it deems "lost", even though its understanding of humanity is too limited to let him do this well. However, he's not malicious, and seems genuinely distressed [[spoiler: by the orphan children who died because of his inability to properly care for them]]. He even reads books on childcare in an attempt to learn how to better care for children, and was distressed enough by a children's cartoon about bullying that he tried to breech containment to "protect the babies".
** [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-239 SCP-239]], another CreepyChild SCP who is also an extremely powerful RealityWarper, able to rewrite her immediate surroundings on a whim. However, she's another 8-year-old girl who simply has no real control over her powers; whatever she believes or desires simply becomes so, regardless of her active input. Case in point: [[spoiler: she apparently willed ''Santa Claus'' into being]].
** The creature spawned by [[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-1471 SCP-1471]], called SCP-1471-A, is quite creepy-looking with a skeletal face looking like a dog's skull and white, blank eyes, but to date, no manifestation of the creature has ever attacked anyone. The problem is that the creature ''won't leave whoever let it manifest alone'' from that point on.
** [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-4494 SCP-4494]] is a [[Radio/TheShadow shadowy]] MysteriousStranger calling himself THE SPECTER ([[LargeHam yes, in all caps]]), who is the AnthropomorphicPersonification of law enforcement. He acts as a vigilante, appearing and disappearing at will, and the Foundation won't contain him because [[NiceJobBreakingItHero attempting to do]] so makes all humans in the vicinity no longer believe in ([[BlueAndOrangeMorality or even comprehend]]) the rule of law.
* Music reviewer WebVideo/ToddInTheShadows, as [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin his name suggests]], is almost always seen in darkness. While he is quite [[DeadpanSnarker snarky]] and prone to fits of rage when he hears particularly bad music, he's a pretty nice guy.
* The Tumblr meme of "suicide prevention skeleton", which is about [[https://78.media.tumblr.com/6f81063c3260549d40f24d50eef8b2a9/tumblr_inline_oi00jsNPrE1uwqr3a_540.jpg pictures of gun-toting skeletons following up edgy messages with life affirmation and the suicide hotline number]].
* The titular main character from ''WebVideo/UnwantedHouseguest'' is actually quite nice, despite being pale, thin, AmbiguouslyHuman, and [[NonIndicativeName the rightful owner of Aberfoyle Manor]].
* From ''Podcast/WelcomeToNightVale'', the titular town is associated with night, darkness, shadows, the moon, and the color purple. Sure, a lot of bad stuff happens there, but for the most part Night Vale's inhabitants are pretty friendly. It makes a nice contrast to the LightIsNotGood tendencies of the neighboring town, Desert Bluffs.
** Night Vale's [[spoiler:creator and destroyer, Huntokar]] is an interesting case, as [[spoiler:she helped Night Vale survive to the point where it could become a town]], but [[spoiler:she later ended up accidentally destroying it in at least one reality]]. This is because [[spoiler:she comes from the same ancient group of gods that includes the Glow Cloud, the Woman From Italy, the Distant Prince and the Good Boy; among these, she was the only one who didn't revel in creating destruction and chaos and madness.]]
