* ''WebVideo/EconomyWatch'': David began the show shortly after being diagnosed with chronic depression, and wrote the Season 2 finale shortly after a series of major breakdowns in 2022. The namesake acts pretty gleeful, but has shown emotional or fragile sides, such as in the Season 2 finale.
* A humorous in-work example is the [=YouTube=] series WebVideo/YouSuckAtPhotoshop. It's a series of videos teaching the viewer how to use Photoshop, but as the series progresses the audience learns all about the creator's personal problems by this trope.
* Creator/MatthewMercer suffered ''literal'' CreatorBreakdown trying to produce the GrandFinale to ''WebVideo/ThereWillBeBrawl'', to the point that he ended up on bed rest with a pinched nerve and caused the delay of the finale. In a subversion though, blame for this was squarely placed on ExecutiveMeddling: The Escapist suddenly (without even consulting him) announced that the finale would premiere a week earlier than he had planned.
* Miss Hannah Minx might currently suffer from this. She usually didn't care about her male viewers [[JustHereForGodzilla other]] [[MsFanservice interest]] in her. But after she posted one single video without showing her breasts enough, she got tons of hatemail. Her next video was a [[MyEyesAreUpHere passive aggressive]] complaint about her reception. Afterwards she went back to her original style for a short while only to be called a hypocritical prostitute. Her latest active video series was when she attended season 2 of ''D-trix Presents Dance Showdown''. Since then her weekly videos about Japanese has only been updated about once every third month. Something on ''Dance Showdown'' might have been the final blow, which broke her.
** She hasn't updated Youtube, Facebook, or Twitter since October 13th, 2013, so something has definitely happened.
** According to [[https://web.archive.org/https://www.reddit.com/r/MissHannahMinx/comments/37ai9x/hannah_is_married_with_children_now/ this Reddit post]], she is now married and a mother. Her former manager now owns her channel and Twitter, hence her absence.
* Nina Paley, after a bad breakup with her husband, found solace in the ''Ramayana'', particularly the story of Rama saving his wife Sita and later having problems taking her back. The result: ''WesternAnimation/SitaSingsTheBlues''.
* Website/{{Ponibooru}} was shut down on 6/17/12 (a month after PassingTheTorch, thankfully) because Eco/Archive, the main operator and site owner, thought he was no longer capable of running the site.
** [[http://derpibooru.org/119122 This post]] by Roboshi of the [[Blog/AskAPony Ponibooru Crufavers]].
* [[Creator/LittleKuriboh Martin "[=LittleKuriboh=]" Billany]] has been suffering from depression since mid-2014 and it is one of the reasons for the lack of productivity and new videos. That and his diagnosis of Crohn's disease hasn't helped either. He's currently doing some Vlogs as a way to talk about things and seems to slowly be getting better.
* Creator/NoahAntwiler of ''WebVideo/TheSpoonyExperiment'' had a history going back to 2009 of tumultuous events which would affect his rate of content generation and the quality of said content. These ranged from equipment problems, moving out of his parents' place, a nasty break-up with his then-girlfriend Scarlet (who'd managed his site and helped with video production), interpersonal problems with fellow content creators (most famously leading him to quit Website/ChannelAwesome after a conflict with Creator/AllisonPregler over his Twitter behavior in 2012[[note]]Antwiler has insisted his back-and-forth with Pregler had nothing to do with his departure[[/note]]), an ever-worsening relationship with his own fanbase (and trolls who found him easy to provoke), and a struggle with various health issues including depression and bipolar II disorder. While always a CausticCritic, Antwiler's content grew increasingly bitter through the years, and he began to introduce RealitySubtext elements relating to his mental state, with villains who would mock him for his real life failings or torment him in the same way as his detractors online, and ever-increasing complaints about hating his life. Eventually his website was shut down while his content production dried down to a trickle of gaming livestreams with minimal commentary.
* Creator/DougWalker revealed in commentary that "The Review Must Go On" was originally even nastier and messier (Rob had to be brought in to clean it up) because he was just so angry at the fans demanding WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic back and making him feel like his pet project ''WebVideo/DemoReel'' had to be torched. And with the constant mentions of missing the latter show, Critic being much darker-spirited and all the TakeThatAudience in both Critic and vlogs, his bitterness took years to tone down. Later seasons have a less resentful tone, however, and Walker's stated that he does now enjoy doing the show.
* ''Literature/ChaosFighters: Chemical Warriors-RAKSA'' was created when the series creator suffering from depression. After ending an unpleasant internship experience, he realized how immature he is after being scolded by his entire family and having to finish his thesis within one month while his supervisor was at UK for two weeks with lab work unfinished. Deciding to extend, he spent time on the project, but he could not do it according to his schedule. This shows when [[TheStarscream the starscream]] appeared for the first time, a [[DistressedDude distressed dude]] has to be rescued and the heroine has to deal with people who believe that said dude in question is a ''villain'' instead of a victim. Also, updates were not done in daily basis. However, it still ends ideally as he promised to reduce the effect of this trope and he managed to complete the novel in time.
* In the ''Literature/MetamorKeep'' setting, authors have had to either abandon the universe or slow down. Things that have plagued the authors include:
** Brain aneurism
** Deaths in the family
** Pneumonia
* ''Fanfic/FalloutEquestriaProjectHorizons'' is one of the [[SlidingScaleofIdealismVsCynicism bleakest]], [[DarkerAndEdgier darkest]], and [[TearJerker most depressing]] (not to mention [[DoorStopper longest]]) fanfictions ever created. Is it any wonder that its author is a suicidal major depressive?
* The creator of WebAnimation/SuperMarioBrosZ, Alvin Earthworm, lost his motivation because of its fans and ended the series. Subverted though come 2015 where he announced he would reboot the series.
** Sadly double subverted following the upload of episode 1 of the Reboot. As a result of Alvin Earthworm going through a series of mental health issues, he has not been able to work on episode 2, putting the Reboot in limbo for 5 years...only to get triple subverted once he finally uploads episode 2 on May 2nd.
* Platform/Fireball20XL and many sites that shared the same domain was undone by one of these, caused by a counterattack that not only was started when people found out that Psyguy had horrificly abused many women for years, but also because he unsuccesfully tried to silence people and remove any evidence against him. Faster than you can say StreisandEffect, the rage of the people drove Psyguy into removing not only Platform/Fireball20XL and other websites under his domain, but also removed most of his social media content, but not before people on Tumblr screencapped the most important evidence to his actions, making sure that he will NeverLiveItDown.
* Jordie Jordan, also known online as [=WingsOfRedemption=], began to suffer a breakdown after a highly publicized livestreamed duel in ''VideoGame/CallOfDutyWorldAtWar'' with another streamer, the duel originally arranged following a difference of opinion regarding VideoGame/NaziZombies mode. Over the course of the match, Jordie's preferred strategy of finding a positional advantage and camping was dismantled by his opponent's more mobile playstyle. As the match entered its final minutes with his opponent leading him by a significant margin, Jordie hit his RageBreakingPoint and broke his controller in frustration. Following this (and a highly publicized scandal where he tried to bribe his opponent into throwing a money match), Jordie would become a target of endless trolling. Combined with mounting financial difficulties, increasing pressure to succeed in spite of his viewerbase dwindling, and a combination of anxiety and depression over his weight, Jordie's love of Youtube and gaming eroded to the point where he is very vocal in his desire to quit playing games and end his career as a streamer and content creator, but cannot due to it being his only source of income.
* [[http://www.elchiguirebipolar.net/02-04-2013/pajarito-bendice-a-maduro-y-no-se-de-verdad-no-se-puede-hacer-un-chiste-con-esto-cagada-de-pais/ One of the entries]] in the NewsParody ''[[Blog/ElChiguireBipolar Chigüire Bipolar]]'' is how the actual news (in that case, the officialist presidential candidate speaking to the reincarnated former president in the form of a bird) is already too ridiculous, and that they can't riduculize reality any further.
* WebVideo/{{Markiplier}} suffered a major breakdown when Daniel Kyre of Cyndago passed away. Being close friends with Daniel and Ryan, he put his channel on hiatus in order to grieve.
* Bryan, who created well-regarded kids network information website, [[http://www.nickandmore.com/ Nick And More]], went through quite a bit of this in 2015, at times shutting down his website multiple times within half a year, before initially calling it quits for good in September (by ''completely'' locking his Facebook and Twitter account, and as announced on the website, initially letting the domain eventually expire). While there were a number of problems, [[WhyTheFandomCantHaveNiceThings ranging from people repeatedly mistaking his website as being associated with Nickelodeon was the biggest of them.]] One could see that by looking through his stuff could see it was his continuing disillusionment of Creator/{{Nickelodeon}} and Creator/CartoonNetwork[[note]] caused by the former's continuing AudienceAlienatingEra, and the latter's [[ScrewedByTheNetwork screwing over of highly-acclaimed shows just to solely attract young male audiences]] and the [[AdoredByTheNetwork obsession with]] ''WesternAnimation/TeenTitansGo'' at the cost of said acclaimed shows[[/note]] as a big part of why he was giving up through 2015. Though by the next year, [[HopeSpot it appeared that we would finally be back, including reopening his]] Platform/{{Twitter}} and Platform/{{Facebook}} pages, along with a Platform/{{Tumblr}} account. However, just before the 10th Anniversary, he once again shut down the website again, stating that he had zero care about today's kids channels, combined with how everything is practically online. [[HesBack Though after a short break and reconsideration]], [[CreatorRecovery he has since returned]] albeit focusing more on the reopened Twitter account, and using "Nick and More" to post ratings and tidbits.
* ''WebAnimation/DeathBattle'' went on a short hiatus at the end of Season 2 to avert this, as Ben and Chad[[note]]Wiz and Boomstick[[/note]] thought that their 3D animator was working himself into exhaustion.
** The Mewtwo vs. Shadow battle suffered from this because the animator grew tired of doing vs. battles and deliberately did a mediocre job on it.
* Creator/AllisonPregler chose to retire ''Obscurus Lupa Presents'' (as well as phase out the 'Obscurus Lupa' name for the most part) and retool it into the more discussion-based ''Movie Nights'' because she had become so burned out from the original format (in a Q&A video, she said that she felt like she was "stuck in 2009"). However, despite what many viewers thought, the retool had nothing to do with Allison being fired from Channel Awesome shortly before ''Movie Nights'' took off, as Allison had been planning the retool prior to her firing.
* Creator/RoosterTeeth:
** In May 2016, former animator Shane Newville wrote a 25-page letter accusing the company of trying to ruin ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'' creator Creator/MontyOum's vision for the show after his 2015 death. The letter was a heartbreaking insight into a man who was openly struggling with divorce, mental health, and the loss of a man he greatly admired. Since then, only individuals with public grudges against Rooster Teeth have supported its veracity.
** Shortly after leaving Rooster Teeth, Creator/KathleenZuelch, the voice of Agent Texas in ''WebAnimation/RedVsBlue'' and Glynda Goodwitch in ''RWBY'', went on a drunken Twitter rant about her former co-workers on Twitter during International Women's Day 2017. Unsurprisingly, [[RoleEndingMisdemeanor this led to Zuelch's departure from both shows]].
* For an InUniverse case, the ''WebVideo/HistoryOfPowerRangers'' video for ''Series/PowerRangersMegaforce'' sees [[WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall Linkara]] finally have enough of the many issues, including the {{Ass Pull}}s and {{Handwave}}s, of ''Megaforce'' after [[spoiler:Robo Knight's UnexplainedRecovery]] and so the footage cuts to Linkara going LaughingMad, grabbing a gun, emptying a magazine, and the laughter devolving into screaming before he calmly sits down and resumes the review.
* WebVideo/{{Caddicarus}} often avoids this trope by taking frequent breaks from his work, and usually returning about a few weeks later. However, during 2015 Caddicarus had almost eight shows that he was doing as well as managing his second channel, Caddy's Conundrums. This finally culminated into making [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgsL5BGVH8o this video]].
* The WebVideo/AngryVideoGameNerd in 2010 announced that his show was put on hiatus due to him suffering from burnout. Production resumed a month later.
* Throughout the month of April 2018, WebVideo/RebelTaxi went on a hiatus after trying to make videos bi-weekly got the best of him with him having heart palpitations as he was trying to make another entry into his animated pilots series, only allowing him to do three instead of the usual five. The announcement can be seen in the beginning of [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HM8UItvWB2s this video]].
* The reason why Creator/OrionAcaba left ''WebVideo/CriticalRole'' was unknown for a good while, as it was originally said he left due to wanting to follow his own projects. In 2017 however, Orion himself revealed during a livestream it was due to a series of complications out of game that caused him to spiral out of control. By his own admission, he had begun to have drug addiction problems that negatively affected his ability to play, which followed health issues, and an abusive relationship at the time. Combined with how stressful playing every week was, he ultimately left to try and improve his life.
* WebVideo/SuperEyepatchWolf actually [[DiscussedTrope discusses this trope a bit]] when reflecting back on ''Manga/{{Naruto}}''. Namely in how hellish, oppressive working conditions of the weekly manga grind are fundamentally unsustainable and typically lead to this type of situation, with creators developing severe health issues and/or suffering major burnout in their desperate attempts to keep up.
* WebVideo/TheMusicVideoShow is surprisingly mostly made from this.
** Season five is this. According to [[https://youtu.be/OfByCu4kEIQ a video]] by Kiara. Due to jealousy of another Youtuber, she made season five of the show out of anger, depression and suicidal thoughts.
** Season six and seven get this also, since the previous season took so much energy, they ended up being made with very little effort or with little care. WordOfGod states that season eight averts this.
** Season nine is a case of this as well. The videos were stripped back to once a week, however, her twitter account reveals she is still not in the best state of mind and, from a Vlog, says she suffered a panic attack, and forced herself to halt production for two months.
** Season two is retroactively this when a recent video reveals that after getting rejected from Channel Awesome auditions in 2014, her depression started growing through the production of said season. It got to the point where she didn't want to do the show anymore and it lay dormant for two years.
** [[https://youtu.be/pAspogDGha8 ONE EPISODE]] into season 10 and there are glimpses on self-esteem issues about getting rejected by Channel Awesome, saying that she feels that the show is absolute garbage. Eight years later and she's STILL sore about it. This trope contributed in the show ending after the season.
* Roger Barr of I-Mockery and WebVideo/ScreenJunkies, normally known as a LargeHam {{Keet}}, fell into a deep depression following the suicide of his wife Marie "Re" Barr, which put a halt on articles and appearances as he continues to struggle with the grieving process.
* In 2019 and 2020, Creator/LiaMarieJohnson made a series of concerning Instagram Live transmissions in which she would ramble incoherently at times. In one particularly disturbing broadcast, she could be seen being kissed and touched by a middle-aged man who then took the phone from her and made her shut off the video. In January 2023, Johnson released a video in which she went into detail about the amount of mental health and addiction issues she was going through at the time, and that the man in the most infamous Live was her manager/producer who had groomed her from the age of 15. Add to all of this the suicide of her boyfriend, several arrests, periods of drug-induced psychosis, multiple suicide attempts… and it’s rather nauseating to think about the fact that the Internet used this poor girl for gossip/‘tea account’ fodder and jokes. Fortunately, she is now clean, living in the UK with her current boyfriend, and re-embarking on her music career.
* [[Creator/TomSka Thomas Ridgewell]] has ''not'' had a good number of years since 2012 and with one big reason: Losing his best friend and muse [[WebAnimation/{{Eddsworld}} Edd Gould]]. Since, Tom had struggled with running the show following the start of the ''Eddsworld: Legacy'' campaign and his own content, being a factor in his heavy weight gain, losing friendships (in particular Chris "Bing" Bingham) and the excessive usage of suicidal/dark humor jokes. Despite finishing up the campaign in 2016 and even leaving the show and giving it back to Gould's family, Ridgewell still struggles with Gould's passing, his own parents's divorce, excessive alcoholism, and the death of his dog (even at some point ''leaving'' the ''Eddsworld'' fandom due to unpleasable fans giving him hell before coming back). One has to wonder how he even ''still'' is able to make funny content despite being the epitome of SadClown.
* Lanipator of Creator/TeamFourStar admitted that part of the reason for cancelling ''WebVideo/DragonBallZAbridged''[='s=] version of ''Anime/BojackUnbound'' was partly because of general burnout, having done the series for over 11 years. That, the fight to keep their videos from getting taken down from Youtube yearly and the growing resentment of the team towards the movie itself for its difficulty to adapt all contributed to this mindset to the point where Lanipator expressed joy at creating the ''DBZA'' spinoff series ''Dragon [=ShortZ=]''. This burnout later played a large role in the cancellation of Season 4 of ''DBZA'', with the team admitting that ''Bojack'' showed them exactly how burned out they had become with the entire series.
* Jaiden of WebAnimation/JaidenAnimations grappled with an eating disorder and self-esteem issues, which she recounts in "[[https://youtu.be/VhEATqXnXCI Why I Don't Have a "Face Reveal"]]. She said she had [[StepfordSmiler to put on a mask]] during [=VidCon=] 2016 despite her struggles, but called it the lowest point in her life. She and Boyinaband later did a music video titled "[[https://youtu.be/36QMyiRAv-Y Empty]]" based on her experience.
* WebVideo/NathanielBandy underwent one in 2016, which had a serious impact on his countdown videos, in which he now refers to this timeframe as the, "Dark Top Ten Age of 2016". Nathaniel was going through financial troubles in trying to keep the rent on his apartment, and as this was around the time of the Adpocalypse, ad revenue wasn't cutting it for him. He had to resort to striking up deals with advertisers to make extra cash, but as a result of this, he had to pump out at least one video every week, causing him to rush almost every countdown he made throughout the year. Rather than sticking to his usual informative, yet witty form of narration, he opted for [[SelfDeprecation self-deprecating]] parody that felt practically unlike any video he had made prior, on top of either being misinformed or deliberately skewing information to get his videos out quicker.
* ''Platform/{{Roblox}}'' [=YouTuber=] greenlegocats become notorious around 2019 for calling for the ban certain UGC items, which the ''ROBLOX'' community took it as being against the concept of UGC, resulting in him getting massive amounts of flak for this, especially when said items were removed, further increasing the anger against him to the point where during the time where his account was banned for the second time, some user actually ''celebrated'' that he was gone. This reached a breaking point during a scandal in which another ''ROBLOX'' [=YouTuber=] was promoting a gambling site yet went under the radar, greenlegocats ranted upon how he was rightfully criticized for promoting a gambling site in the past and has since deleted that video, but the other one was not and has since gotten away with it, to the point where [[https://youtu.be/ZtdD8ww9-yg he made a video summarizing his dissatisfaction with parts of the community, especially Twitter]].
* When Website/{{Neopets}} was bought out by Creator/{{Viacom}} in 2005 after several stressful years of fighting off The Church of Scientology's attempts to hijack the site into an AuthorTract, co-founder Donna "Poptart" Williams, as a [[TakingYouWithMe last parting gift]], greenlit "the most hideous pet designs and worst names [she] had ever heard": the [[https://bookofages.jellyneo.net/species/ogrin/ Ogrin]] and the [[https://bookofages.jellyneo.net/species/xweetok Xweetok]]. While she regrets the spiteful move now, users aren't complaining -- even though the Ogrin remains [[BaseBreakingCharacter a black sheep among the fandom]], the Xweetok had [[SpringtimeForHitler the opposite of the intended effect]] and became [[EnsembleDarkhorse the fifth most popular pet species on the site]].
* ''WebAnimation/IfTheEmperorHadATextToSpeechDevice'' went on indefinite hiatus due to a combination of this and being ScrewedByTheLawyers: When Games Workshop rolled out their new zero-tolerance policies on fan works, many of the creators, Bruva Alfabusa included, felt that it was inevitable that GW would serve them a Cease & Desist letter due to the show's nature of satiring the ''TabletopGame/Warhammer40k'' grimdark universe. While the work was [[DoingItForTheArt a passion project]] of his, personal matters, including expecting a child soon, meant that he could not legally afford to keep TTS going and risk Games Workshop possibly bringing civil charges against him. Several other members of the TTS team expressed the same, and while no one outright stated it was a definitive end for the series, it has been admitted it would be ''very'' hard to start back up again from hiatus. The entire experience has left Bruva, in his own words, "a meatball of despair."
* Small AnalysisChannel [=ZMangz=] has said the reason stopped uploading in late 2019 was due moving and being in a bad headspace until he started again in summer 2020. In his VideoGame/BlueReflectionSecondLight review, he also mentioned that 2021 "has been a bad year" for him, but didn't go into details.
* Kyle Kallgren of ''WebVideo/BrowsHeldHigh'' has always been very open about his ongoing struggles with clinical depression, but his work ''really'' started to highlight it around 2017 or so. Kyle has always been open and unapologetic about his disdain for former US President UsefulNotes/DonaldTrump, and he made it quite clear that Trump's Presidency was an emotionally difficult time for him, which often made it difficult for him to make video essays. This became pretty evident in his video essays on ''Film/TheColorOfPomegranates'' and ''WesternAnimation/GnomeoAndJuliet''; in both videos, he outright gives up on trying to say anything meaningful about the films, admitting that he just doesn't have the energy or the emotional willpower. The third part of his video on ''Film/StarshipTroopers'' similarly features a lengthy rant about online harassment that he's received over the course of his career, and even includes screenshots of abusive comments that he's gotten on social media.
* Beck Tovar ([=BeckBomberGirl=])'s zombie comedy short film Graveyard Gal has been in development hell since 2022 due to several production and personal issues with Beck saying that she wasn't in a good headspace to complete it at the time. This led to Graveyard Gal to be delayed until it was released as a mini series a year later but was taken down due to copyright issues with usage of unlicensed music in 2024, leading it to be indefinitely delayed again. Beck confirmed that she is still working in the short, but it has been in the back burner as of writing, with a Graveyard Gal short, "Amelia's Gift" being released in Christmas 2023 to make up for its delay.
* Steven Williams, known online as WebVideo/Boogie2988 became a beloved content creator known for comedy skits, commentary and gaming videos. Divorcing from his wife in 2017 alongside a weight loss surgery ended up dealing a major blow to his mental health which resulted in a prolonged downward spiral. His behavior in videos, on stream and on social media became increasingly caustic and negative, leading him to lash out against viewers and get into numerous Twitter arguments, which in turn bred a sizable troll community that antagonized him constantly, further fueling his downfall. He began bleeding subscribers and his view counts plummeted as sponsors dropped him, causing financial troubles that in turn fueled his caustic Twitter behavior. This led to what he described as a nervous breakdown in 2019, prompting him to take multiple breaks from content creation. An in-person altercation with another content creator led to Steven being arrested and pleading guilty to a felony, which unfortunately was not a wakeup call. Steven's own videos as well as a documentary released in 2023 provided the shocking admissions that he's nearly broke due to spending most of his fortune on sex workers and bad cryptocurrency investments. He's since committed to rebuilding his channel and reputation but with nearly half a million lost subscribers and his videos rarely gaining more than 20,000 views, the damage seems to be done.
