It's Hero Time!

Yuri Lowenthal (born March 5, 1971) is an American actor and voice actor who is probably one of the most prolific voice-over artists in the industry right now. In fact, his work is getting so common in the North American industry that he may as well be his own trope. He is Typecasting usually cast as the KidHero of the series, some examples being Simon, young Superman and the most notable of them all, the teenage Ben Tennyson. Despite all those roles, he is probably best known as the voice of AntiHero Sasuke Uchiha in Manga/Naruto. Most of his voice work has shifted towards video games or western animation. However, he still continues to do anime voice work from time to time either with Creator/Studiopolis, Creator/BangZoomEntertainment, or Creator/NYAV Post.

He has provided the voice of Luke fon Fabre in VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss, Kamal in the Franchise/Halo tie-in AlternateRealityGame ARG/ILoveBees, and Cecil Harvey in the Nintendo DS remake of VideoGame/FinalFantasyIV and VideoGame/DissidiaFinalFantasy. Ironically, he doesn't voice Yuri Lowell in VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia; that role went to Creator/TroyBaker instead.

His range tends to be rather limited, with most of his roles demanding nothing more than "normal American accent", which is close to his normal voice anyway (although this is probably due to him being typecast quite a lot). Saying that, he can also pull off a pretty good CreepyChild voice and has a wide range of regional accents for when the role calls for them. He is also often not identifiable when playing multiple ancillary characters.

He is married to fellow VA Creator/TaraPlatt, who voiced Mitsuru and Elizabeth in VideoGame/Persona3 where he voiced the MC. They also co-authored a book called Voice-Over Voice Actor: What It's Like Behind the Mic, which gives their personal experiences in voice acting and advice to newcomers. This book is often referenced and recommended by many veteran voice actors at conventions like Creator/SteveBlum, Creator/CrispinFreeman, Creator/SamRiegel, Creator/KyleHebert, and Creator/VicMignogna.

Also acted as the main character in the Webcomic/VanVonHunter movie. Perhaps fittingly, his character became a massive otaku over the course of that film.

Has a Website/Twitter account.

And yes, his first name is Yuri. We're sure he's heard every joke you have in mind.

And did we mention that he's good friends with Creator/DougErholtz?

!!Tropes associated with Yuri Lowenthal's roles:
* Angst: Quite a few. Sasuke, Barnaby Brooks Jr., Suzaku Kururugi, and Cecil Harvey have their moments.
* ButtMonkey: A few roles like Keigo, Yosuke, and Toby qualify.
* TheDanza: Averted very closely with the VideoGame/TalesSeries. He was told he wouldn't be allowed to audition for the part of Yuri Lowell in VideoGame/TalesOfVesperia, by virtue of the fact he'd just played the part of the main protagonist in the previous entry in the game series, VideoGame/TalesOfTheAbyss, and the producers didn't want the lead roles to sound the same. Incidentally, the role went to Creator/TroyBaker.
* EndearinglyDorky: He's lent his voice to plenty of awkwardly endearing nerds, or serious characters with some Main/NotSoAboveItAll moments that doesn't take away their charm.
* EvilLaugh: He's fantastic at these. It shows when he's voicing characters such as Shadow Yosuke from VideoGame/Persona4 or Advocat.
* FakeBrit: As Sir Galleth Cooper and Matt Miller
* KidHero: Prior to his PlayingAgainstType role as Sasuke in Manga/Naruto, he is often typecast into this character archetypeAnd still does from time to time. Ben Tennyson and Simon are the best examples of this trope.
* HeartbrokenBadass: Some of the characters he voiced have been broken whenever the character he voices loses someone. Sasuke, Barnaby Brooks Jr., and Suzaku Kururugi are some of the examples where they have this kind of moment.
* ManOfAThousandVoices: Not as prolific when compared to Creator/SteveBlum or Creator/JamesArnoldTaylor, but getting him out of his KidHero typecasting into anything involving an accent would fit this trope. WesternAnimation/Ben10Omniverse displays more of his range, thanks to being cast as various different characters including some of Ben's alien forms.
* NotEvenBotheringWithTheAccent:
** Trope, he's managed to pull off a faux Persian accent for the Prince and Shula Valya, a German accent for Nightcrawler, a British/English accent for Cornelius, Advocat, Future!Luke, Matt Miller, and a few bit parts in VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins, a French accent for Pip Bernadotte from Hellsing Ultimate, a Japanese accent with Zero, fluent Japanese as Shogo Akuji, and (along with everyone else on the cast) was coached by Italian voice actors for VideoGame/AssassinsCreedII.
** He's also good with a Russian accent, as indicated with Major Illich from VideoGame/AceCombatAssaultHorizon.
** Played completely straight in the few lines he had as Klavier Gavin, but it may be justified as Gavin is a singer and he's spent a long time in wherever the series is set. And he still has all the GratuitousGerman.
* OldShame: Odd as it sounds, he says he's embarrassed that he hasn't done a hentai dubbing role, and that if he could have done so in the past, he would've (and according to the Hellsing commentary, still would if given the chance).
* TheOtherDarrin: Averted for his role as Yosuke Hanamura from VideoGame/Persona4, being one of the only three voice actors for the main cast to reprise his role in every dubbed appearance (the others being Creator/JohnnyYongBosch as Yu Narukami and Creator/AmandaWinnLee as Yukiko Amagi).
* TheOtherMarty: Surprisingly, Yuri was originally supposed to voice Renton Thurston in the Anime/EurekaSeven dub. However, according to WordOfGod, the ADR Director felt that Yuri's voice acting was "too low", so they had Creator/JohnnyYongBosch voice Renton instead. Looks like type-casting didn't go as well as they expected.
* PigeonholedVoiceActor: Normally the KidHero. However, ever since his PlayingAgainstType role as Sasuke Uchiha, he apparently has landed him into a new typecast of dramatic and angsty roles.
* PlayingAgainstType: Suzaku Kururugi is a KnightTemplar, Sasuke Uchiha is an AntiHero, and Yosuke Hanamura is the Sidekick. Also: Wadji from Haré+Guu, C-3PO Expy Steve from VideoGame/RogueGalaxy and Kevin Winnicot from VideoGame/Xenosaga. And as Barnaby Brooks Junior, his voice is far more adult and reserved, and the English dub even has him break out the snark. Might regress a bit into familiar territory once Bunny shows his more BrokenAce tendencies and gets a few Big Word Shouts. And then we have That Man. A calm, enigmatic, and cryptic AntiVillain that hardly ever loses his cool. Also, Charlie McDonald: while Yuri has voiced badass pilots of HumongousMecha before, he hasn't voiced one with a voice as deep a BaritoneOfStrength as Charlie [=McD=].
** Of special note is his ArcVillain guest role on Podcast/OldGodsOfAppalachia as the Railroad Man, a far more well-spoken and sadistic role than he typically plays.
* StarMakingRole: First received some notable recognition playing the title role in the widely acclaimed VideoGame/PrinceOfPersiaTheSandsOfTime. Then he hit it big with his career as a voice actor after playing Sasuke Uchiha in Anime/Naruto. He also managed to hit it big as a western VA in WesternAnimation/Ben10AlienForce as well as both shows that followed it.
** His biggest star-making role to date is as Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, in Insomniac's VideoGame/SpiderManPS4, which has become one of his most iconic roles and to date his performance has led to him being praised as one of the best actors of the iconic superhero to date.
* SkywardScream: Some of the characters he had voiced involved screaming to the top of his lungs. Haseo, Asch, and Ben Tennyson are some of his roles that involve this trope.
* TomHanksSyndrome: A rare voice actor example. Prior to his role in Manga/Naruto, his known roles were KidHero roles who are idealistic; or flatout comic relief ButtMonkey. While he's still casted into KidHero characters from time to time, he's been getting more dramatic and angsty roles. In fact, he's probably more well-known for his angsty characters than his KidHero characters.
* VocalEvolution: In a similar vein to Creator/JohnnyYongBosch when he performed double-duty as Yu Narukami and Tohru Adachi in VideoGame/Persona4, Yuri developed new traits for Yosuke Hanamura in VideoGame/PersonaQShadowOfTheLabyrinth, making his voice higher-pitched and more excitable to contrast him from his other role as Makoto Yuki from VideoGame/Persona3, whose voice is slightly lower-pitched and more stoic.
