''"I didn't mean to do that! The controls are fucking lagging!"''
''"Did you see that? There was nothing I could do man, come on!"''
Phil Burnell, more commonly known as DarksydePhil or "The King of Hate", is a popular Website/{{Youtube}} content creator, currently partnered with Machinima.
----
!! Tropes:
* AbortedArc: Project 7 was introduced fairly early in Phil's Website/{{Youtube}} career in mid-2009, but after several videos vanished.
** [[SavedFromDevelopmentHell It was brought back in spectacular fashion]] in January of 2012.
** As of August 2012, it has been put on [[HereWeGoAgain indefinite hiatus]] because the show's graphics editor is unable to work on it.
* AprilFoolsDay: Every April Fools' Day, Phil will play "The Greatest (Insert Genre) Game Of All Time." They're not great.
** 2013. [[DarkSouls Dark Souls]]. You can guess the rest.
* BerserkButton: Kai Leng from ''MassEffect3'' really manages to get under his skin. [[spoiler: After the Thessia mission]] Phil becomes so enraged regarding both Leng and Cerberus it sparks series of ClusterFBomb outbursts where he angrily declares ItsPersonal. Then again, lots of players felt [[TheScrappy the same way]] about him.
** In particularly, overly long end credit sequences for games seem to be something he really despises.
--> '''Phil''': (while watching the end credits of ''HeavyRain'') Oh my god, now they have to fucking tell you who works at Sony Computer Entertainment of America? Fuck you! I hate this shit! Get this bullshit the fuck out of your credits! All I want to know is who made the game! Not who fucking published the game; not who fucking gave a backrub to the dude who was coding the game, who fucking jerked 'em off... this is bullshit. I don't fucking care who works at Sony! They didn't make this fucking game! You don't get any credit!
*** Happens every time with Ubisoft games, as their credit sequences range anywhere from 15-25 minutes long for every one of their games.
* BigNo: Phil occasionally blurts them out, such as his playthrough of ''MarioParty 9'' when he loses most of his stars, or in ''MassEffect3'' where Phil [[spoiler: accidentally puts his Shepard in a relationship with openly gay crewmate Steve Cortez,]] leading Phil to be horrified when the romance scene begins starting up.
* CatchPhrase:
** THE GAME IS BUGGED
** PFFFFFFTTTT
** HAHA NOTHING I COULD DO
** NOT MY FAULT
** [[{{Gasshole}} BRAAAAAAAAP]]
** WHATEVER MAN!
** CUH-MON MAN!
** I'M STUCK ON NOTHING
* TheComputerIsACheatingBastard: Invoked often, accurately or otherwise.
* FacePalm: Prepare your foreheads for this, especially if you sit through his playthroughs of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and 3: Snake Eater.
--> *opens weapon window, shows "press LB to zoom"* "How do I zoom?"
--> *The End boss fight* "Where is my shotgun?"
* FromBadToWorse: The original channel, darksydephil, was taken down by Website/{{Youtube}} for false copyright claims (though it was eventually reactivated, and now serves as an archive of pre-2011 footage). DSP created new channels, and got Google Ad-Sense activated on his [=TheKingofHateHD=] channel, allowing him to make money off of his videos. Phil lost his job. His Ad-Sense privileges were revoked due to claims of fraudulent actions designed to exploit the Ad-Sense system. DSP moves to Blip.tv and gains a partnership. That account was later closed by Blip.tv due to some poorly thought out humor about [[ThoseWackyNazis The Holocaust]]. Now, however, he is back on Youtube and partnered with Machinima.
* {{Hatedom}}: He has a very large and loyal fanbase, as well as a very active and very loud hatedom.
* HypocriticalHumor: Phil often chides a character for swearing in-game by telling them to "watch your [[ClusterFBomb fucking]] mouth."
* LargeHam: Project 7 thrives on this.
* LeftItIn: All of Phil's commentary is live and unedited.
* LetsPlay: The staple of DSP's content. He really [[InsistentTerminology doesn't like]] to use the term, though.
* LostForever: All his videos that were on his blip.tv account, including the controversial VideoGame/DeadSpace2 demo playthrough that was the reason for its deletion. Another noteworthy one was the tenth episode of "Cooking With The King", which was Phil baking cookies in his stove for Christmas.
* ManlyTears: [[spoiler: Kenny's sacrifice]] in ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'' moved Phil so much it actually got him to tear up while playing.
** As did Thane's death in [[MassEffect3 Mass Effect 3]], though there it seemed like he was trying to fight them.
* MoneyDearBoy: Why did he quit playing {{Xenoblade}} halfway through and skip TheLastStory? Because apparently, [=JRPGs=] that are not titled FinalFantasy just don't garner enough views to make the time investment worthwhile.
** Also seems to be the case with any game he starts playing a bit after it's release week. The latest in this case is ''VideoGame/LegoCityUndercover''
** If you are watching DSPGaming's stream with ad-block on, and he knows it, you will be banned. He lives off of youtube, after all...
* NeverMyFault: The page quote is a perfect example.
** 95% of the time he messes something up in a game, his first instinct will be to blame either:
*** 1. the controls
*** 2. game bugs that only exist in his head or
*** 3. rage and curse out the developers for being morons.
** The other 5% of the time:
*** 1. it will be a legitimate game bug
*** 2. he will be silent, or...
*** 3. in rare occasions, he will actually acknowledge it was his mistake. In short, there's a reason why he has such a passionate {{Hatedom}}. In particular, the StreetFighter professional fighting community really doesn't like Phil.
* [[OrphanedSeries Orphaned Playthrough]]: While Phil does do an excellent job at completing the vast majority of the games he plays very quickly (well over 90% of the games he plays have been finished within a week or two, something that makes him stand out from many other {{LetsPlay}}'ers on Youtube), there are several which he has simply abandoned. Some noteworthy ones include SplinterCell Conviction (through no fault of his own; see UnknownRival below), {{HAWX}}, {{Xenoblade}}, [[VisualNovel/PhoenixWrightAceAttorney Phoenix Wright: Justice For All]], and the co-op playthrough of VideoGame/ResidentEvilTheDarksideChronicles.
** Other times, he abandons a game because of [[RageQuit sheer frustration or dissatisfaction]]. The most infamous example of this among his followers is his DarkSouls playthrough. Other examples of similar rage quits by him are VideoGame/DeadSpaceIgnition, {{VideoGame/Amy}}, {{SSX}} 2012, [[MegaManX Megaman X3 and X6]], ZombiU, VideoGame/EpicMickey2ThePowerOfTwo, and some of the more infamous {{Batman}} video games.
*** The ''Justice for All'' playthrough is one that's received high demand for him to continue, and Phil's even acknowledged that he plans on getting back to it sometime (one of the problems he had was narrating everything started to hurt his voice, so he wanted to take a bit of a break from it). Based off his 2013 preview it may not be orphaned much longer.
*** Averted in May 2013 when he finally returned to and beat Dark Souls after 3 years.
* PuttingTheBandBackTogether: Nearly said word for word when he talks about reuniting with John, grogdeluxe, and Mayor [=McJustin=] for ''[[DeadIsland Dead Island: Riptide]]''. Partially subverted, as Justin was unavailable to return due to his job.
* RedOniBlueOni: With his friend and frequent co-op partner John Rambo. Phil is loud and excitable and hilarious. John is very laid back and calm, and has a much [[DeadpanSnarker drier, sarcastic sense of humor.]]
** John can occasionally [[NotSoStoic drop his calm demeanor]] though, [[CrowningMomentOfFunny which is all the more entertaining when he does.]]
* TheRashomon: An interesting case in Phil's playthrough of ''ResidentEvilOperationRaccoonCity'': Thanks to a bug, Koruchado only sees John Rambo as an unmoving statue that doesn't do anything. When watching the videos from Phil's POV you can clearly see John taking part in the action, watching the videos from Koruchado's sees John not doing anything and anything he encounters not registering on the screen (for example, when Phil kicks a zombie dog to help John in Koruchado's vids it looks like Phil is just kicking the air).
* RefugeInAudacity: After Nintendo's announcement that they will essentially be taking a cut from any video with footage from their games if said videos have ads enabled, Phil went off on one of his biggest rants ever about corporations not owning people's lives. Live on Twitch. At the very end, he gets up, walks towards the camera, unplugs his Wii U, walks off camera, comes back with a trashcan, and THROWS OUT HIS WII U LIVE ON TWITCH. You can't really accuse Phil of half-measures.
* RunningGag: A couple, most notably when he shouts out when something is "brought to you by the awesome cleansing powers of Selsun Blue" which begun in his ''HeavyRain'' playthrough and still occasionally pops up in his later vids. Though this seems to have subsided since 2011. He eventually mentioned it later on
* {{Tagline}}: Ever since he partnered with Machinima in 2011, he has prefaced all his "Hateful Truth" video game review series episodes with the tagline of "Maximum truth, minimum bullshit."
* TakeThat: During his playthrough of the ''HeavyRain'' DLC "The Taxidermist," Phil makes a comment that the only thing Jay Leno is good for is making you fall asleep.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Phil and John actually serve out this role in their crossover playthroughs, when watching the it from a different youtuber's perspective such as [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeIFvrvl8Lk&list=PL12D8F4FE4E893425&index=1 Koruchado]] or [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ro7H9Cc5eI&list=PLLF8Ug06OT3HZFJdCUvCmQk3mDodfHls1&index=1 TheAireaidLord]]
* UnknownRival: "Steve Jones," the to-this-day unknown person who pretended to be a Ubisoft rep and filed a false copyright strike that got Phil's original channel suspended from Youtube in April 2010 during his SplinterCell Conviction playthrough.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Phil at one point was going to partner with Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, but this ultimately didn't happen after the Blip.tv fallout.
* WhatTheHellHero: PlayedForLaughs in this case, as Phil and John occasionally call each other out on numerous sleazy moves they pull whether it be intentional or not. Phil seems to be on the receiving end of them a bit more often.
