Susan Abigail Sarandon (née Tomalin; born October 4, 1946 in New York City, New York) is an American actress.

Among the accolades that she has received during her more than fifty-year career are nominations for five Best Actress UsefulNotes/{{Academy Award}}s (winning for ''Film/DeadManWalking''), two UsefulNotes/{{BAFTA}}s (winning for ''Film/TheClient''), nine UsefulNotes/{{Golden Globe|Award}}s, and five Primetime UsefulNotes/{{Emmy Award}}s.

Sarandon made her film debut in the 1970 film ''Film/{{Joe|1970}}'' and appeared as a regular on the short-lived soap opera ''A World Apart'' in 1970–71. Her other well-known films include ''Film/TheGreatWaldoPepper'', ''Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow'', ''Film/PrettyBaby'', ''Film/AtlanticCity'', ''Film/TheHunger'', ''Film/TheWitchesOfEastwick'', ''Film/BullDurham'', ''Film/ThelmaAndLouise'', ''Film/LorenzosOil'', ''Film/TheClient'', ''Film/LittleWomen1994'', ''Film/{{Stepmom}}'', ''Film/IgbyGoesDown'', ''Film/{{Enchanted}}'', ''Literature/TheLovelyBones'', ''Film/{{Arbitrage}}'', and ''Film/ThreeGenerations''.

She is also known for her social and political activism for a variety of progressive causes. She was appointed a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1999 and received the Action Against Hunger Humanitarian Award in 2006.

Sarandon was married to Creator/ChrisSarandon (1967–79) and subsequently in relationships with Creator/LouisMalle (1977–80), Franco Amurri (1984–88), Creator/TimRobbins (1988–2009), and Jonathan Bricklin (2010–15). She has one daughter with Amurri and two sons with Robbins. She came out as bisexual during a 2022 appearance on ''Series/TheTonightShowStarringJimmyFallon''.
