'''''[[WesternAnimation/WolverineAndTheXMen *SNIKT!!!*]]'''''

Simply put, the American equivalent of Creator/NorioWakamoto.

Steven Jay Blum is notable for his ''incredibly'' versatile range, though his most well-known is his GutturalGrowler voice. He can play just about any role from heroes, to villains, even to the just plain weird. One of his most notable roles is Spike Spiegel from ''Anime/CowboyBebop''. He is also known for [[RelationshipVoiceActor working with]] Creator/WendeeLee and Creator/NolanNorth. He is equally known for having a ludicrous number of roles in the ''same'' work at times, with some video games having him voice so many extras that it seems as if you have stepped into some bizarre world populated almost entirely with Steve Blums.

He has a Website/{{Twitter}} [[https://twitter.com/#!/blumspew account]]. In April and May of 2012, he used it to lead the charge to bring Creator/{{Toonami}} back on the air, which was announced as successful on May 16, 2012.

Officially holds the [[GuinnessWorldRecords Guinness World Record]] for being the [[http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=62393280&l=a550f11c0f&id=152361198170316 most prolific video game voice actor]], having 261 credited appearances as of May 10, 2012.

A few of the characters he has voiced are found [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhI4Ho9qEnw&feature=related&fmt=18 here]].

!!Tropes relating to Steve Blum's work:
* {{Badass}}: A lot of the characters he voices fits into this trope. As mentioned in a Tekkoshocon panel, someone stated that he voiced "every badass character ever."
** BadassBaritone: He has a fairly good one naturally, but takes it to its limit as Amon from ''WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra''.
** According to him in an interview, should all the characters he voiced ever engage in a free-for-all, the winner would be ''Leeron'' since he would creep everyone else out.
* DoingItForTheArt: The reason he still does anime dubbing, even though it pays nothing compared to doing video games and western animation.
** It is worth noting that despite being a union-only member, anime is how Steve Blum entered the voice acting business (as opposed to his other fellow union-only voice actors like Creator/JamesArnoldTaylor and Creator/NolanNorth who entered the voice acting businesses ''other'' than anime).
* EvilLaugh: Is a master of this.
* GutturalGrowler: What got him a lot of attention and popularity. It should be noted that he talks like this in RealLife.
** Taken to its limit in ''Saints Row: The Third'', where the Zombie voice option is just him making Tazmanian Devil-like noises.
** Surprisingly averted in his performance as [[Anime/DigimonTamers Guilmon]].
* ItsPronouncedTroPAY: His last name is pronounced "bloom".
* LargeHam: Some of his roles qualify.
** And some of them mix it, such as Amon, who is often vocally subdued, but when he needs to, [[MagnificentBastard he commands a powerful presence with both his voice and motions]].
* ManOfAThousandVoices: Has a wide vocal range, as he is capable of pulling off a higher-pitched voice (like [[CampGay Leeron]]) or an accent (like [[DashingHispanic Garcia Hotspur]] and [[ThoseWackyNazis Red Skull]]) whenever it is needed.
* MeanCharacterNiceActor: Steve is known for his growly and deep voice which mostly fits with villains. But in real life he is a really sweet and down-to-earth guy who promotes charity.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Turned 54 this year, even though he does not appear to be any older than his mid- to late thirties.
* OneOfUs: On top of being a comic book fan, he also led the charge to get Creator/{{Toonami}} back on the air, being as passionate about it as his many fans.
* PigeonholedVoiceActor: Averted. He has played a large variety of roles ''and'' has a wide vocal range (including a ''[[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann gay mechanic]]'' and a ''[[Anime/DigimonTamers cute Digimon]]''). [[IAmNotSpock It is the fandom that only remembers him for Wolverine and Spike Spiegel]]. However, he notes that at the start of his career, he was stuck as monsters or bad guys.
* PlayingAgainstType:
** Leeron and Guilmon would be the best examples.
** Also, he is nearly unrecognizable as [[VideoGame/MassEffect2 Grunt and the Shadow Broker]] due to his voice being modulated. Although if you listen closely enough to the former, you can tell it is him.
** [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Orochimaru]], [[WesternAnimation/TheSpectacularSpiderMan Green Goblin]] and [[WesternAnimation/TransformersPrime Starscream]] require use of his higher register, higher than most of his roles.
** Played with in the ''Ultimate Spider-Man'' episode "Freaky". For a large portion of the episode, he is voicing Spider-Man trapped in Wolverine's body.
** ''WesternAnimation/Ben10Omniverse'' has him playing Hobble, a weak, cowardly, ButtMonkey Plumber who is pretty much the antithesis of [[EvilOverlord Vil]][[RoleReprisal gax]].
* PromotedFanboy: He often talks about hanging out at his uncle's comic book shop and reading the comics. He has voiced numerous comic book characters, most notably SelfDemonstrating/{{Wolverine}}.
* PungeonMaster: Of the [[WesternAnimation/TheLegendOfKorra Amon]] type.
* RelationshipVoiceActor: He has often worked together with Creator/WendeeLee, Creator/CrispinFreeman, Creator/NolanNorth, FredTatasciore, Creator/BeauBillingslea, Creator/JoshKeaton, Creator/DaranNorris, and Creator/DeeBradleyBaker.
