Update: May 5, 2010: The [[http://www.sentai-filmworks.com Sentai Filmworks website]] is now online.

On September 1, 2009, Creator/ADVFilms announced that it sold most of its assets to five different companies, all of whom are based in UsefulNotes/{{Houston}}, Texas. Although it may appear that the company is essentially dead, [[http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/editorial/2009-09-01/what-happening-with-adv-films some industry observers]] believe that the move is an attempt to end a relationship with a hostile shareholder that has damaged the company while still maintaining its core competency and catalog.

* Creator/SwitchbladePictures acquired Japanese live-action films properties for distribution in the North American market.
* Sentai Filmworks is the [[http://www.sentai-filmworks.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=82&Itemid=85 licensor company]] for acquiring Japanese anime into the North American market.
* Creator/{{AEsir Holdings}} has licensed rights to most of ADV Films' former library of titles (some titles are licensed directly by Sentai Filmworks).
* SeraphimDigitalStudios acquired Amusement Park Media, ADV's production studio.
* Valkyrie Media Partners acquired the Creator/AnimeNetwork. [[http://www.theanimenetwork.com/ The Anime Network website]] (on-line player and forum) continues to operate as it did before the sale.
* Creator/Section23Films is a distributor and marketing company of Switchblade Pictures, Sentai Filmworks, and Creator/{{AEsir Holdings}}.

!!Tropes Related to Creator/SentaiFilmworks
* EverythingIsBigInTexas: The company is based in Houston.
* {{Fanservice}}: While not much of the biggest offender when compared to Creator/MediaBlasters and Creator/{{Funimation}}, a few of their romantic comedy and ecchi titles fall into this. Bonus points that [[SengokuOtome two of]] [[LightNovel/HyakkaRyouranSamuraiGirls the tiles]] they've licensed involves the Sengoku Period.
* ForcedMeme: [[https://twitter.com/Sentaifilmworks/status/426476717914349570/photo/1 The "lewd" card]]. Comes from a scene in episode five of ''Anime/InfiniteStratos'' second season where Maya gave Charolette in a pageant contest a red card for lewdness. Needless to say, this image is often thrown around in regards to Creator/JessicaCalvello [[note]]Even though Calvello herself haven't gotten a role in the Infinite Stratos dub yet, this is related to her role in Anime/MariaHolic[[/note]] or whenever Sentai Filmworks licenses an anime that is a bit sexually explicit.
* ImprobablyFemaleCast: A lot of their anime they pick up tend to have disproportionately large female casts. Bonus points if some of their shows get an English dub. A justified trope, because some of the titles they have licensed are usually {{Harem}} romantic comedy {{fanservice}} series (or Creator/KeyVisualArts titles). Hence, this is why there are more voice actresses working with Sentai Filmworks than male voice actors.
* NoBudget: Sort of. Unlike the larger anime licensors like Creator/{{Funimation}} and Creator/VizMedia, Sentai Filmworks runs in a slightly limited budget. Thus, this is one of the main reasons why most of their dubs rarely hire out-of-town or even out-of-state voice talents, along with the fact that they have a tendency to rush things at times (even for their sub-only releases). Although they aren't as bad when compared to Creator/MediaBlasters.
* NoDubForYou: Was a big proponent of this trope until 2011. Nowadays, they release a good number of their titles with English dubs from SeraphimDigitalStudios, while they also release several of their titles sub-only. In recent years, they even re-released some of their titles that were initially sub only with all-new English dubs, such as ''SpecialA'' and ''MariaHolic''.
* TheOtherDarrin: While they normally use Creator/BangZoom for continuity of dubs that was done in California in the past, two of their titles Manga/FateKaleidLinerPrismaIllya and [[Manga/RozenMaiden Rozen Maiden Zurückspulen]] had them use their in-house studio and their own voice actors instead outsourcing to Creator/BangZoom. The reasons are truly unknown, although some fans speculate that it's either because it's much cheaper to use their own voice talent over Californian voice actors; or the fact that the two titles mentioned are spinoffs of the original work. [[note]]It also doesn't help to note that some of the voice actors in the original dubs, such as Creator/RebeccaForstadt and Creator/SherryLynn aren't as active in anime dubs as they were in the past[[/note]]
* {{Seinen}}: The company releases a lot of titles for this demographic.
* {{Shoujo}}: Many of Sentai Filmwork's catalog falls into this demographic, and some titles are even given dub treatment.
* SpiritualSuccessor: To Creator/ADVFilms.
* TokenMiniMoe: Many of their shows they licensed have at least one loli in them, and [[Creator/HilaryHaag two of the]] [[Creator/MonicaRial voice actresses]] they use specialize in this trope (with [[Creator/BrittneyKarbowski a third one]] slowly specializing on this trope as well)
