Norio Wakamoto, born on October 18, 1945 in Shimonoseki, Japan, was an anti-riot squad officer who saw action in the Shinjuku riots in 1968 before he became a voice actor after he graduated from the Nakano Police Academy. Wakamoto said that he resigned after questioning whether he should be in the force. He joined the Consumers Union of Japan, but Wakamoto also left after getting into trouble with his boss for not seeking their approval before he did his work. Afterwards, Wakamoto signed up for voice acting after he saw an application for anyone to join Ryo Kurosawa's training school for upcoming voice actors. He later met Tohokushinsha's dubbing director, Kanji Nakano, who encouraged him to go into voice acting.

Wakamoto studied at Waseda University under the Faculty of Law prior to joining the police academy, but mostly found himself interested in Shorin Kempo instead of hitting the books.

Wakamoto is well-known for his [[LargeHam grandiose]] delivery and [[PigeonholedVoiceActor his tendency to get picked for a villain role]]. His range of villain roles is also quite wide, from manipulating and scheming to TheBerserker type; whether it's of a high position or as an underling (as long as it's no {{Mook}}, and sometimes even then).

Villains, however, aren't his only forte (though it's undoubtedly what he's best at). [[ManOfAThousandVoices He is also capable of doing]] [[PlayingAgainstType humorous, perverted roles or, rarely, heroic types. Or even soft-spoken characters.]]

He is not only respected amongst Japanese and Western anime fans, but he is also very well respected amongst his fellow voice actors, to the point that many have tried doing a 'Wakamoto impression'. For example, [[https://twitter.com/zetsubouquet/status/954989114784395264?lang=en this one]], as done by Creator/TomokazuSugita, Creator/TakahiroSakurai, and Creator/YuuichiNakamura. In fact, there was a competition in 2012 about imitating Wakamoto, judged by Wakamoto himself; the result remains unknown, however.

Uses the name "Hiruma Kyou-no-suke" when voicing for characters in Eroge.

Not only that, there are also times where [[Creator/JojiNakata Jouji Nakata]] shares a few roles along with him, since he's mainly the second-in-line equivalent to Wakamoto when it comes to voicing villains. He also has one with Creator/ToshiyukiMorikawa, as in majority of times, Wakamoto plays the villain to Morikawa's hero.
