Max Landis (born August 3, 1985) is a screenwriter, director, producer, comic book writer and son of director Creator/JohnLandis. His best known works are the films ''Film/{{Chronicle}}'', ''Film/VictorFrankenstein'' and ''Film/AmericanUltra''. He is also a creative consultant for Wrestling/{{WWE}}.

He has also made a bunch of short films and videos including the well known "educational parody film" ''[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0PlwDbSYicM The Death and Return of Superman]]'' in which he recounts Franchise/{{Superman}}'s [[ComicBook/TheDeathOfSuperman infamous death and return]] with the help of Creator/ElijahWood, Music/MandyMoore, Creator/SimonPegg, Creator/JennetteMcCurdy, Creator/RonHoward, Creator/LizGillies and several others.

He created a very long blog post in late 2017 about the music of Music/CarlyRaeJepsen called "A Scar no-one else can See", where he claims that all of her music has exactly the same lyrical themes and those themes are completely atypical to those usually found in mainstream pop music.

[[http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/bbc-america-douglas-adams-dirk-gentlys-holistic-detective-agency-1201674933/ He is currently working on a TV adaptation]] of the Creator/DouglasAdams ''Literature/DirkGently'' series, which now has its own page: ''Series/DirkGentlysHolisticDetectiveAgency''.

He possesses a [[AgentPeacock frequently]] [[RummageSaleReject bizarre]] [[IWasQuiteAFashionVictim fashion sense]], ability to [[https://youtu.be/7sVfEFlonTk spontaneously]] [[https://youtu.be/ygWvAqvTrVI?t=1m38s generate]] [[https://youtu.be/ev7BrvTsslU film]] [[https://youtu.be/E9nL22iKUFs pitches]], and often [[FanBoy near-encyclopedic knowledge of comics and film]]. He has also attracted controversy for his signficant social media presence, apparent high opinion of his own work, alleged sense of entitlement, {{Hipster}} lifestyle and supposed ItsPopularNowItSucks mentality; he claims this is because he is very bad at making a first impression. These combined have made him one of the most notable popular writers in Hollywood, as well as one of the most divisive. Then, of course, there's the, uh... [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Landis#Misconduct_accusations accusations, in particular by former co-worker Anna Akana]].

!!Tropes applying to Landis' works:

* AffectionateParody: His ''[[ComicBook/TheDeathOfSuperman The Death and Return of Superman]]'' and ''Wrestling Isn't Wrestling'' somewhat-mostly-accurate educational parody films.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_Y9eIdJxgo 14 Max Landis]]: a fan film about Max Landis' variety of online persona.
* AttentionDeficitCreatorDisorder: [[invoked]] Had half a dozen different projects in production in the years after ''Chronicle''.
* BigNameFan: [[invoked]]
** Of the WebVideo/ScreenJunkies' movie debate show, ''WebVideo/MovieFights''. He was actually featured as one of the gladiators in Episode 47.
** He's also a fan of WebVideo/RedLetterMedia. They interviewed him after they reviewed ''American Ultra'', and he appeared on an episode of ''WebVideo/BestOfTheWorst''.
** He's been a fan of wrestling, especially of Wrestling/TripleH, since the 90s.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Definitely on the odd side, but still managed to sell two specs at million dollar prices in the same month he was showrunning a new series.
* CrossCastRole:
** ''The Death and Return of Superman'' features Whitney Moore, Jennifer Newman, and Jezlan Moyet as Batman, Robin, and Nightwing, respectively.
** ''Wrestling Isn't Wrestling'' retells the first 20 years of Wrestling/TripleH's Wrestling/{{WWE}} career with a predominantly-female cast, headed by Chloe Dykstra as Triple H. Male wrestlers like Triple H, Shawn Michaels and the Undertaker are played by women, and the only featured female wrestler, Chyna, is played by a man (Sam Witwer). All other parts are played by their sex.
* EpilepticTrees: If "A Scar no-one else can See" is anything to go by, he is very fond of these.
* ExecutiveMeddling: [[invoked]] Fox told him to rewrite his script for ''Chronicle 2'' as [[http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/10/10/why-fox-dont-like-the-script-for-chronicle-2/ it wasn't enough of a retread of the first movie]].
* InternetBackdraft: [[invoked]] He caught a LOT of flack for claiming that Rey from ''Film/TheForceAwakens'' is a MarySue, though he himself has since expressed annoyance and disgust with people who take it too far, such as anti-feminists who ran with the idea, and people who began claiming that Jyn from ''Film/RogueOne'' is a Sue just based off of both the trailer and him sarcastically claiming she is as a CallBack to the Rey controversy. People who weren't familiar with Landis and his pro-feminist views saw the claim as a petty and weak dig at one of the precious few strong female protagonists in a major franchise film.
* MotorMouth: Specially when pitching movies.
* NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer: Several times throughout ''Wrestling Isn't Wrestling''
* OneOfUs: [[invoked]]
** Has been a reader of comics for years, and produced the ''[[ComicBook/TheDeathOfSuperman The Death and Return of Superman]]'' [[AffectionateParody somewhat-mostly-accurate educational parody film]]. He is also at the very least aware of Wiki/TVTropes, as can be seen by his comment [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?src_vid=xwtdMzQtG9s&annotation_id=annotation_945638&feature=iv&v=cH2jsabYulI here]]. He's also written the Spider-Man fanfic Fanfic/TheShockerLegit.
** [[https://twitter.com/Uptomyknees/status/397576150764904448 He also knows this page exists.]]
** His love of wrestling really shows in some podcasts and videos he made about the subject, such as ''Wrestling Isn't Wrestling''.
** He's also a fan of Wiki/SCPFoundation, and actually [[http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-2137 wrote an SCP]].
* PromotedFanboy: [[invoked]]
** He's writing the critically-acclaimed DC Comics miniseries ''Franchise/{{Superman}}: American Alien''.
** "Wrestling Isn't Wrestling" led to him being given a position as a creative consultant for WWE. Triple H has claimed that Max Landis is one of the few members of the Internet Wrestling Community (IWC) who fully "gets" wrestling.
* SawStarWars27Times: Has mentioned in interviews that he spent a large chunk of his teen years watching Gremlins 2 every Friday.
