->''Don't fuck with Mara Wilson!''
-->--''WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic''

Mara Wilson (born in 1987) [[FormerChildStar was a child actress]] who was in several films in TheNineties (best known as the title character in the feature film adaptation of Roald Dahl's ''{{Matilda}}''), but decided to leave when she realized "film acting is not very fun", in her own words.

She still works in entertainment, but as a playwright after graduating from NYU. She also writes a blog, "[[http://marawilsonwritesstuff.com/ Mara Wilson Writes Stuff]]", to which she often posts humorous stories and the like. Her [[https://twitter.com/#!/MaraWritesStuff Twitter feed]] is similarly humorous. She's [[http://www.cracked.com/members/MaraWilson/ also written]] for Website/{{Cracked}}.

She has also done guest spots on Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, revealing that she has unholy powers that she will use to punish those who blindly mock her. According to [[WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall Linkara]], she obtained these powers from {{God}} Himself.

She also has a recurring role on ''Podcast/WelcomeToNightVale'' as The Faceless Old Woman Who Secretly Lives In Your Home.

Evidently, she's well aware of the existence of TVTropes, too, [[http://marawilsonwritesstuff.com/top-girl-the-game-for-everyone/ mentioning]] ArtisticLicensePhysics (back when [[Administrivia/RenamedTropes it was known as]] You Fail Physics Forever) [[http://marawilsonwritesstuff.com/an-essay-about-me-by-jenny-donoghue/ and]] CloudCuckoolander, as well as a tendency to check this page. (Hi, Mara! We're happy you exist!)

----
!!Associated Tropes:

* AdamWesting: An InvertedTrope variation. Usually, when an actor engages in this they're playing a CloudCuckooLander variation of themselves. Mara Wilson's idea (at least when it comes to Channel Awesome) of this is to [[MemeticMutation WIELD UNHOLY POWERS FROM BEYOND OUR REALM!!]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Her internet persona is basically this: if you don't invoke her demonic rage she is rather a nice person.
* BigApplesauce: Was a native of California, but as of 2015 lives in New York City; she is a graduate of NYU. Her spoken-word and comedy shows (notably ''What Are You Afraid Of?'') are held at NYC nightclubs, her play ''Sheeple'' enjoyed a run there, and she often [[{{Twitter}} tweets]] and blogs about her experiences in the city.
* BrainyBrunette
* CerebusRetcon: According to one Cracked article, when she was younger she found herself on a foot fetish website devoted to child actresses - which she found quite funny. Years later she told a friend about it and then realised she had been on a child porn website.
* ClarkKenting: In the Nostalgia Chick's ''Matilda'' review. Disguised with her hair in a bun and a thick pair of glasses.
* ContractualPurity: People are thrown off that Matilda now has...filled out in her adult years. She's joked that it's only a matter of time before someone accuses her of ruining their childhood because of her boobs. On a different note, people assumed that because she was in family friendly movies that her play ''Sheeple'' was also family friendly.
* [[ConvertedFanboy Converted Fangirl]]: Once convinced that [[Creator/DougWalker Doug]] was an asshole because of awful fans of his harassing her, now practically an honorary ChannelAwesome member and good friends with both him and Lindsay.
* DeadpanSnarker: An attitude she takes in a lot of her writing.
* TheDreaded: When she shows up in Channel Awesome content, she generally appears as this.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Her internet persona may be an evil revenge-hungry she-demon, but she doesn't hate kids.
* FormerChildStar: She prefers the term "reformed drama nerd". She retired on her own, prefers her non-film jobs, and has certainly avoided a breakdown. [[Pantheon/TheaterGreaterGods Parse be Mara!]]
* GagBoobs: See SheIsAllGrownUp for the details below. Even the Nostalgia Chick commented on them.
* HairstyleInertia: On her FAQ section of her website, one such question is why she has the same hairstyle that she had as Matilda. She responded that she's had various short hairstyles in her teen years and grew it out longer than when she was a child.
* HandicappedBadass: Has suffered from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, which she [[http://www.cracked.com/blog/4-things-no-one-tells-you-about-having-ocd/ has written articles about]] [[http://amysmartgirls.com/smart-girl-mara-wilson-discusses-mental-illness/ and posted videos online over]].
* HeartwarmingMoments: [[https://twitter.com/MaraWritesStuff/status/579719442638249984 Invoked.]]
* HollywoodAtheist: [[https://twitter.com/MaraWritesStuff/status/508385928394833921 She discussed this at one time, stating that she love to meet some nice atheists yet they're hard to find on the internet]].
* IAmNotSpock: Apparently, people she encounters still call her Film/{{Matilda}}, prompting her to remind them that Matilda doesn't exist. She's been at some pains to emphasize that her overly perky, precocious film characters are quite different from her real personality, even back then. But she has said that she was quite similar to Matilda, being a creative bookish type.
* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: Has consistently pointed out, including in her {{Twitter}} profile, that her name is pronounced MAH-ra, ("rhymes with capybara"), and that it is not pronounced like "Sarah". Many people still mispronounce her first name, though.
* JewishAndNerdy: She's Jewish and she describes her family being a very nerdy one - listing herself as a huge fan of ''Franchise/StarWars''.
* NiceGirl: Works for a non-profit organisation to help children, and loves doing charity work.
* OneOfUs: On Twitter, she mentioned that she enjoys playing ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' and ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII''.
* RemakeCameo: Discussed. She declined the suggestion to play Miss Honey in the musical version of ''Matilda'', but said she was open to having a cameo if they made a film.
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: Website/IMDb claimed she was dead once. Mara's response was that she CameBackWrong.
* SelfDeprecation: She has [[WordOfGod often mentioned]] that this is her favorite kind of humor, and it shows up plenty of times in her social media accounts and writings.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: She jokes about how her figure filling out from puberty tends to throw people a bit.
-->'''Nella''': Holy shit, Matilda! You've got a great rack!
* ShipTease: Not above giving "the [[SlashFic slash-ficcers]] more material" (her words) though you really need ShippingGoggles to see it.
* SlashFic: People keep sending her their Matilda/Miss Honey femmeslash fics, the existence of which creeps her out. She has compared these fics to ''{{Literature/Lolita}}''.
* [[invoked]]TastesLikeDiabetes: Her getting typecast into these kinds of roles (and consequently people tending to assume she was actually that nauseatingly precocious in real life) is what got her to quit acting.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Of the writing and drama club type of Tomboy - with a huge love of ''Franchise/StarWars''. But she says she secretly does love [[PinkMeansFeminine pink]].
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Saltine crackers. She posted a photo label of a box of saltines on her {{Twitter}} account, which remains there as of March 2015, and she has humorously discussed her obsession with the snack on Twitter posts..
* [[invoked]]WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: She expressed horror on her Twitter page when a newspaper mentioned in summer 2013 that fans of the ''{{Theatre/Matilda}}'' musical (which not long before won multiple Tony awards) staged nearby in New York City would love to see Mara's play, ''Sheeple'' at a nearby venue purely based on the fact that she played Matilda Wormwood in the 1996 movie version. [[WordOfGod As she often stresses]], ''Sheeple'' is most definitely ''not'' for kids.
