''See you next Wednesday.''

Director known for a series of excellent comedies and horror movies, as well as two music videos for Music/MichaelJackson, "Thriller" and "Black or White". He directed ''Film/AnimalHouse'', ''Film/TheBluesBrothers'', ''Film/AnAmericanWerewolfInLondon'', ''Film/TradingPlaces'', ''Film/SpiesLikeUs'', ''Film/ThreeAmigos'', ''Film/ComingToAmerica'', ''Film/InnocentBlood'' and most recently ''Film/BurkeAndHare''. He also developed and produced ''Film/{{Clue}}'', the AllStarCast mystery/comedy based on [[TabletopGame/{{Clue}} the popular board game]].

He is also controversially known for taking part in the filming of ''Film/TwilightZoneTheMovie'', because [[NeverLiveItDown actor Vic Morrow and two (illegally employed) child actors died during the filming of Landis' segment]] when a helicopter stunt went horrifically awry. Despite all the evidence against him, Landis was acquitted of manslaughter charges, making him something of a real life KarmaHoudini. Beyond this is he is also known for being something of a bully towards his crews, something Creator/ChevyChase, of all people, called him out on.

He is also the father of Creator/MaxLandis, also a director.

!!His works provide examples of:
* ArcWords: "See you next Wednesday," a {{shout out}} to his favorite film, ''Film/TwoThousandOneASpaceOdyssey''.
* AuthorAppeal:
** Loves to include other directors in cameo roles in his films. ''Film/AnimalHouse'' is his only movie which lacks this feature.
** Classic music. After ''Film/TheBluesBrothers'', Landis has been able to work with pretty much any musician he's wanted to, leading to lots of musician cameos in his films too.
** The "Visit Ride/UniversalStudios. (Ask for [[Film/AnimalHouse Babs]])" end card that often appears at the end of his films.
** Working in an appearance of the phrase "See you next Wednesday".
* ProductionPosse: Although he's worked with a lot of different actors over the years, certain faces do keep popping up:
** Creator/DanAykroyd: ''Film/TheBluesBrothers'', ''Film/BluesBrothers2000'', ''Film/TwilightZoneTheMovie'', ''Film/TradingPlaces'', ''Film/IntoTheNight'', ''Film/SpiesLikeUs''
** Creator/JohnBelushi: ''Film/AnimalHouse'', ''Film/TheBluesBrothers''
** Pete Riegert: ''Film/AnimalHouse'', ''Theatre/{{Oscar}}''
** Mark Metcalf: ''Film/AnimalHouse'', ''Film/TheStupids'', ''Theatre/{{Oscar}}''
** Creator/EddieMurphy: ''Film/TradingPlaces'', ''Film/ComingToAmerica'', ''Film/BeverlyHillsCopIII''
** Henry Gibson: ''Film/TheBluesBrothers'', ''Film/KentuckyFriedMovie''
* SurrealHumor: Including the overly supernatural nun in ''The Blues Brothers'' and the singing bush in ''Three Amigos''!
* VideoCredits: Obviously fond of this trope as he used it several times.
