Jessica Marie Alba (born April 28, 1981) started her acting career in the '90s, playing in a few independent films, making a few appearances on ''Series/TheSecretWorldOfAlexMack,'' and doing a couple of seasons of the revived ''Series/{{Flipper}}'' series. Then she grew up and starred in ''Series/DarkAngel''. And ''then'' she played a [[MsFanservice stripper]] in ''Film/SinCity'', and Invisible Woman in ''Film/FantasticFour2005'', and wore a bikini in ''Film/IntoTheBlue''. She has a personal code about never appearing nude. At least not completely.

Over time it's come to light that [[OldShame she dislikes most of her CV]]. She thought ''Film/GoodLuckChuck'' was borderline pornographic, ''Film/TheKillerInsideMe'' was gratuitously violent (she's stated she doesn't want her daughters to see it, and with good reason), and hated working on the ''Film/FantasticFour2005'' movies so much that she almost quit acting.

Although she appeals a bit ''too'' much to males to have any chick flicks in the foreseeable future, ''Film/ValentinesDay'' notwithstanding and she barely appears in this one (see also Creator/ScarlettJohansson and Creator/MeganFox[[note]]although they're in ''Film/HesJustNotThatIntoYou'' and ''Friends With Kids'' respectively, they're not so much the main characters as each film's MsFanservice[[/note]]), she has almost certainly won some female fans by not hiding how difficult it was for her to get back in shape after having her daughters [[ThemeNaming Honor and Haven]]. She and their father Cash Warren married in 2008; in recent years she's devoted more time to motherhood than acting, starting a company called The Honest Company (specialising in non-toxic household goods) and authoring ''The Honest Life'', a book about this lifestyle. The company became highly successful, and Alba's net worth is [[http://www.forbes.com/sites/clareoconnor/2015/05/27/how-jessica-alba-built-a-1-billion-company-and-200-million-fortune-selling-parents-peace-of-mind/ estimated to be $200 million.]]

[[http://twitter.com/jessicaalba She also tweets pretty often.]]

Despite looking entirely different and both having been in ''Valentine's Day'' (although never in the same scene), she is sometimes confused with Creator/JessicaBiel.

!!Tropes associated with this actress:

* AsHerself: In ''Film/KnockedUp'' and ''Entourage'' (both [[Series/{{Entourage}} TV show]] and [[Film/{{Entourage}} movie]]).
* BikiniBar: Alba's refusal to do nude scenes led to this when she was cast as a stripper in ''SinCity''.
* EternallyPearlyWhiteTeeth: What a grin!
* FakeNationality: Malaysian in ''The Sleeping Dictionary'' and Canadian in ''TheLoveGuru''.
* {{Fanservice}}: Her personal code against nudity notwithstanding, directors can't seem to resist having at least one scantily-dressed/suggested-nude scene in any film she does, regardless of whether it makes sense or not. The ''Fantastic Four'' movies may be the most notorious in that regard -- in the first, she initially has to strip to completely disappear (a limitation that was never present in the comics, according to Jessica, the scene was written after she was hired), while in the second, she has her clothes burned off after accidentally receiving the Human Torch's powers. Both scenes, of course [[NakedPeopleAreFunny are in public.]] She was apparently nude in two movies, but ''The Sleeping Dictionary'' used body doubles and her shower scene in ''Machete'' involved digitally removed underwear.
* MsFanservice
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's in her mid-thirties, but thanks to diet, genetics, and healthy living, she could pass for a teen with no effort whatsoever.
* OneWomanSong: The German group Fourtypercent [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Me2ouxGwQRc (with "Jessica Alba")]] and the English group Elliot Minor [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL7bVeFfBPM (with "Jessica")]].
* PlayingAgainstType: See ''Film/TheKillerInsideMe'' and ''Film/{{Awake}}''.
** But if you'd rather not see her [[spoiler: get beaten to death or play a murderous gold-digger respectively]] in those films, there's the little-seen ''An Invisible Sign'' - a rare non-[[FanService fanservicy]] role for her as a mousy, withdrawn math teacher. [[spoiler: Alba also plays a cartoon villain in ''WesternAnimation/EscapeFromPlanetEarth'' and a live-action one in ''Film/BarelyLethal''.]]
* ProductionPosse: Has now done five films with RobertRodriguez.
* SpicyLatina: Averted - until ''Film/{{Machete}}''.
* StarMakingRole: ''Fantastic 4'' and ''SinCity''. ''DarkAngel'' also brought her to a lot of people's attention ([[TestosteroneBrigade especially the male variety]]).
* WagTheDirector: Her aforementioned "No Nude Scenes" policy is the reason why her character is always clothed in ''Sin City.''
