Australian author Garth Nix specializes in what's now called "Young Adult" fantasy--but don't let that throw you. He has the uncanny ability to take fantasy [[ClicheStorm Cliche Storms]] and convert them into pure horror. Pray that his dark gift never reaches the people who write the "American Girls" books.
He also is a big fan of CapitalLettersAreMagic, and has a kind of [[AwesomeMcCoolname awesome name]]. He also uses GreatBigBookOfEverything frequently, for example the Book of the Dead, the Atlas of the House, and the Codex.
In addition to a few standalone novels (''Literature/TheRagwitch'', ''Literature/ShadesChildren'', ''Literature/AConfusionOfPrinces'', ''Newt's Emerald''), he has several series out, including the ''Literature/OldKingdom'' series, the ''Literature/KeysToTheKingdom'' heptalogy, and ''Literature/TheSeventhTower'' hexalogy.
