Epic Records is a subsidiary of Creator/SonyMusicEntertainment. It was introduced in [[The50s 1953]] as a Creator/ColumbiaRecords imprint that focused on pop, [[ClassicalMusic classical]], and {{jazz}}, but by The60s was releasing music in all genres.

The 1960s is also when Epic had its first lasting successes, with crooner Bobby Vinton, several [[UsefulNotes/TheBritishInvasion British Invasion]] bands (including Dave Clark Five, Music/TheHollies and Music/TheYardbirds), and Music/SlyAndTheFamilyStone keeping the label on the charts. However, Epic really came into its own in [[The80s 1983]], when its release of Music/MichaelJackson's ''Music/{{Thriller}}'' became the highest-selling album of all time.
