!!Tropes associated with him:
* BadassGrandpa: He's 62 years old as of 2012. Appropriately, he's portrayed men who ''are'' Badass Grandpas themselves, including Heihachi Mishima, a ''literal'' grandfather.
* CoolOldGuy: As the titular character in ''Johnny Tsunami''.
* LargeHam
* MemeticMutation: [[Film/MortalKombat Your brother's soul is his.]]
* RealLife/MeanCharacterNiceActor: Many of his movies have him cast as men who are, put simply, not nice guys. Mr. Tagawa himself [[ is a part-time masseur for the University of Hawaii's football team]], and is noted as being [[ very courteous and non-violent]].
* RoleReprisal: He reprises his role as the villainous [[Film/MortalKombat Shang Tsung]] in ''WebVideo/MortalKombatLegacy''.
* PlayingAgainstType: Be honest--would you expect to see the guy who played [[YourSoulIsMine Shang Tsung]] riding a surfboard in ''Johnny Tsunami''? Or showing up for an episode or two as a minor maintenance person on the Series/BabylonFive station?
