Adrien Brody (born April 14, 1973) is an UsefulNotes/AcademyAward-winning American actor and producer.

Brody grew up in Queens, UsefulNotes/NewYorkCity. His mother is Sylvia Plachy, a renowned Hungarian photographer who Brody credits with making him comfortable being in front of the camera. Brody remained on the cusp of stardom for many years until he was launched into recognition with Creator/RomanPolanski's 2002 film, ''Film/ThePianist'', a biopic of Polish Jewish pianist Władysław Szpilman, who survived UsefulNotes/TheHolocaust during UsefulNotes/WorldWarII. ''The Pianist'' earned him much critical acclaim and an Academy Award for Best Actor, as well as nominations for a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild and BAFTA award. Brody holds the distinction of being the youngest ever winner of the Best Actor Oscar at age 29, and the only American to ever win a Cesar, the French equivalent to an Oscar.

Brody is known for his unconventional looks and even more unconventional roles, appearing in such films as ''Film/TheThinRedLine'', ''Film/{{Predators}}'', ''Film/TheBrothersBloom'', ''Film/TheDarjeelingLimited'', ''Film/SummerOfSam'', ''Film/{{King Kong|2005}}'' (2005), ''Film/{{The Village|2004}}'', ''Film/TheJacket'', ''Film/{{Hollywoodland}}'', and ''Film/{{Splice}}'', and he has worked with such directors as Creator/MNightShyamalan, Creator/TerrenceMalick, Creator/SpikeLee, Creator/WesAnderson, Creator/DarioArgento, Creator/WoodyAllen, Creator/PeterJackson, Creator/RianJohnson and Creator/StevenSoderbergh. He has also appeared in commercials for Diet Coke, Schweppes, Stella Artois and Gillette razors.

!!Tropes:
* GagNose: His large, angular hooter is a major contributor to his distinctive appearance.
* LargeHam: When given the opportunity, he will ''really'' ham it up.
* MethodActing: He's famous for going all out in his roles. For ''Film/ThePianist'', he not only lost considerable weight from his already skinny frame but broke up with his girlfriend and sold his apartment and all his possessions to feel the same sense of loss.
* PersonaNonGrata: He's been banned from hosting ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' because he improvised an introduction for musical guest Sean Paul in which he was dressed in dreadlocks and rambled in a Jamaican accent. While most viewers did consider this the high point of the episode, Creator/LorneMichaels' BerserkButton for guests is doing a bit without his express permission.
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He's just over six feet tall with wavy dark hair and is quite handsome.
