The fourth mini-series from IDW's Godzilla line. After the devastating {{Kaiju}} Apocalypse that left a good chunk of human civilization in ruins, humanity is left to scrounge and rebuild in the aftermath. However, an old man named Hiroshi begins to have dreams about the day everything went to Hell. And to make matters worse... the monsters are coming back.

!!Examples include:

* AdaptationalVillainy: Played with. Godzilla isn't a straight up villain like he was in GMK, but he's given a very unforgiving portrayal.
* AfterTheEnd: Humanity is left in ruins following a devastating monster war.
* AmbiguousEnding: Why [[spoiler: did Godzilla lose interest in attacking Biollante and humans? Was it Biollante helping him? Had enough fighting for one day? Was it Hiroshi praying or his death? For that matter why did Godzilla spare Mothra?]] Hiroshi concludes that no one really knows what the gods want.
* BeamOWar: Ghidorah and Battra larvae briefly engage in this during a flashback.
* BigBadEnsemble: Godzilla, Megaguirus and Destoroyah are the seperate primary antagonists in the present day time of the comic.
* BigCreepyCrawlies: Kamacuras, Mothra, Battra and Megaguirus.
* BigDamnHeroes: Mothra defeats the Meganula swarm as it starts to descend on the village and begins to square off with Megaguirus herself.
* BigGood: Mothra, unshockingly, is viewed as one of the monsters that brings good fortune. Slightly more surprisingly [[spoiler: Biollante is seen as a hope of revitalizing the Earth but Godzilla may have squashed that hope.]]
* DarkerAndEdgier: This is what would happen if the "all-out monster attack" scenarios seen in Film/DestroyAllMonsters and Film/GodzillaFinalWars left humankind in ruin.
* DoomMagnet: Biollante's calls and plants attract other monsters such as the Kamacuras swarm, Megaguirus and her Meganulon and [[spoiler:Destroyah]].
* EasilyForgiven: Mothra seems to be the only Kaiju willing to give humanity a chance even after all they've done.
* FinalBoss: [[spoiler: Destroyah is set for the final issue.]]
* FriendshipMoment: Posssibly, [[spoiler: it seems Godzilla might have just been warning Mothra in the fourth issue rather than flat out killing her.]]
* FromASingleCell: [[spoiler: Apparently Biollante can regenerate if a single piece of her is left undamaged, in this case a rose]].
* HopeSpot: When Mothra is attempting to heal Biollante, [[spoiler: Godzilla sets her ablaze anyway]]. And things are better now since [[spoiler: Godzilla has also seemingly killed Biollante and humanity's guardian: Mothra.]]
* LegendFadesToMyth: In this universe, the Kaiju all faded into myths or stories told around the campfire due to the amount of time between their penultimate attack and the aftermath... only to come back.
* ManEatingPlant: Biollante.
* TheMedic: Mothra can heal Biollante with her pollen.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Godzilla especially took [[spoiler:mankind's attempt to control him and other monsters personally.]]
* SceneryGorn: Well, considering it's set in a post-Kaiju War universe, it's gonna be expected we're gonna see cities in total shambles.
* SpiritualSuccessor: The dire setting and monster cameos in the prologue set Cataclysm very easily as an alternate continuation of Kingdom of Monsters where the space monsters or aliens don't exist.
* TheSwarm: The Meganula and [[spoiler:Destroyah reverts to a mob of smaller ones to hunt down humans at the start of the finale.]]
* TooDumbToLive: [[spoiler: The humans attempted to find means as to control the Kaiju, including Godzilla. Guess how that turned out.]]
* WellIntentionedExtremist: One can imply [[spoiler:the world's governments wanted to find a way to control the Kaiju as means of keeping civilians safe.]]
* WingsDoNothing: Interestingly the adult Destroyah never flies despite having wings. Instead it reverts back one of its two junior forms for flight.
