[[folder:Night Raiders]]

An elite defense team under TLT command, they are responsible for the elimination of Space Beasts.

!!Kazuki Komon
!!! Portrayed by: Takuji Kawakubo
-->''"The reality one sees...if it were all a deception..."''

The main character of the series. Komon is a kind-hearted, straightforward person who is always willing to help others. Throughout the series he bonds with the Dunamists and grows alongside them. [[spoiler: This culminates in him becoming the fifth and final Dunamist, host to the true form of Nexus: Ultraman Noa.]]
* TenMinuteRetirement: [[spoiler: In episode 16, he leaves the Night Raiders but returns at the end of the episode.]]
* {{Adorkable}}: Komon is a {{Nice Guy}}, but rather straight-laced. Also, there is his reaction when he gets tomato ketchup on his nose during a dinner in episode 30.
* AlliterativeName: '''K'''aizuki '''K'''omon.
* ArmorPiercingSlap: Komon gets one from Nagi in episode 13.[[spoiler: She was trying to snap him out of his grief for Riko's demise.]]
* BadLiar: This is a given, as Komon is a naturally straightforward person. He lied to Ren's boss that he was Ren's cousin, something that Ren joked about upon hearing about it. Even Ren's co-worker remarked on how Komon used honorifics when referring to his 'uncle and aunt'.
* TheBigDamnKiss: Shares one with Riko in episode 10. [[spoiler: Then, she dies 2 episodes later.]]
* CatapultNightmare: Has one in episode 7 where Nagi shot him.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: When he was a child he almost drowned. In episode 1, he is terrified and loses control of himself during a rescue operation taking place near a river.
* FriendToAllChildren: Komon goes out of his way to rescue a girl trapped in a factory with her dog in episode 7. He meets up with her in episode 8 and proceeds to have a chat with her[[spoiler:, but the Memory Police had already erased the girl's memory.]]
* TheHero: Despite not being a Dunamist [[spoiler:at first.]]
* HeroicBSOD: Goes through one as a result as a result of [[spoiler: Riko's death in episode 12. It is only in episode 16 when he gets back to his normal self.]]
* InnerMonologue: As the main character, he has plenty of these.
* InstantSedation: When he wakes up in the middle of his physical examination in episode 1, he is quickly sedated before he can ask more questions.
* ItsAllMyFault: For a while, he believed that [[spoiler: Riko's death]] and a family being attacked by Nosferu in episode 12 happened because they cross paths with him.
* LotusEaterMachine: [[spoiler: Mizorogi conjures up an illusion of the late Riko, making Komon think that he can reunite with her.]]
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Feminine Boy to Nagi's Masculine Girl.
* TheMedic: Komon used to be in a rescue team, so he was able to patch up an injured Ren in episode 27.
* NaiveNewcomer: At first, because he is new to the fact that TLT and Space Beasts exist.
* NewMeat: Night Raiders' newest member. The start of the series highlights his unfamiliarity with the ways of the Night Raiders and TLT.
* NiceGuy: Easily the best example in the show. He's straightforward, always willing to help others, bears no ill will towards anyone and is also quite empathetic.
* ParentalAbandonment: His girlfriend Riko's family is shown a few times, but there is hardly any mention about Komon's parents. However, he was shown on the phone with his mother in episode 13 and she seemed to care about him.
* ThePowerOfHate: Nagi tries to get him to cultivate this. On the other hand, Himeya wants Komon not to give in to his hatred.
* SayMyName:

--->'''Komon''': Riko!
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: From his dialogue with Himeya in episode 15, he sees himself as the Sensitive Guy to Himeya's Manly Man.

--->'''Komon''': I'm not a strong man like you.
* StrappedToAnOperatingTable: In episode 1, when TLT perfoms a physical examination on him. When he wakes up in the middle of it, he is understandably upset and confused at the situation.
* SupportingProtagonist: Played straight, making Nexus the first show in the Franchise/UltraSeries to use this trope. The story is told mainly from Komon's point of view, even though he is not a Dunamist (in other words, he does not transform into the titular hero).
** [[spoiler:He loses his role as this when he eventually becomes the fifth Dunamist in the final episode.]]
* [[spoiler: TheLostLenore: His girlfriend, Riko. The fact that she was {{Dead All Along}} and was actually Dark Faust shook Komon considerably. Took him quite a while to get over that.]]
* ThisIsUnforgivable:
** He is visibly angry with the Memory Police for erasing the memory of a girl he rescued in episode 8. The MP leader showed him why it was needed, which gave him second thoughts.
** This is clearly on his mind when Mizorogi taunts him about [[spoiler: making Riko his {{People Puppet}} in episode 13]].
** In episode 25, he says it out loud to Mizorogi after witnessing [[spoiler: a defeated Ultraman]].
* TheWatson: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], as he is new to the Night Raiders and TLT.
* WrongGenreSavvy: As a character, Komon would fit nicely in a typical ''Ultra Series'', something which ''Nexus'' is not.
** He is fortunate enough to be the first person to encounter Ultraman. After being saved by him in episode 1, he firmly believes that Ultraman is on the side of good and is upset when the other Night Raiders, especially Nagi do not support his belief.
** In episode 3, he is surprised when Nagi revealed to him that Space Beasts attacks are covered up and that the victims' families do not know the truth of what really happened to their loved ones who are killed by Space Beasts.
** In episode 8, he is happy to meet up with a girl he rescued during an operation. He expected her to recognize him and to name her dog with the name his suggested, much like how a typical ''Ultra Series'' episode with a {{Victim of the Week}} would end. Instead, he finds that her memory has been erased.

* AntiHero

* SelectiveObliviousness: She is steadfast in her belief that Jun Himeya / Ultraman is an enemy, even though there is evidence to the contrary.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Averted, as there is also Shiori Hiraki. Played straight in flashbacks, where she was the only woman in the team, the others being Captain Wakura, Ishibori and [[spoiler: Deputy Captain Mizorogi.]]

!!Pedoleon
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/pedoleon_klein.jpg

-->'''First Appearance''': Night Raid
Slug-like Space Beasts attracted to ethanol, a small population of Pedoleons hid out in the woods eating people and doing their best to avoid Night Raider notice. Komon was nearly eaten by one before Nexus crushed it under his gigantic fist. Later, the Pedoleons began to change tactics when they realized that Night Raiders was interested in human safety. They merged into giant form and held some humans hostage. Nexus returned and would have killed the Space Beast if Nagi hadn't attacked him. Later, the Pedoleons merged again when Night Raiders attempted to lure them into a trap, but this time Nexus destroyed the Space Beasts in his Meta-Field.
----

* BlobMonster: A slug-like creature capable of turning into liquid and merging into a kaiju form.
* CombatTentacles: In giant form.
* {{Expy}}: As a BlobMonster that feeds on ethanol, has a flight form, and can split, the similarities to Hedorah are not hard to notice.
* GratuitousGerman: In each form, its name is Pedoleon ___ with a German word fitting the form. "Kleine" in its base form, "Groß" when kaiju-sized, and "Fliegen" in flight form.

Bugbuzun was an insectoid Space Beast that lived in the Japanese countryside, eating people. Himeya encountered the monster and battled it as Nexus. !!Galberos
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/galberos_neo.png

-->'''First Appearance''': Relic
Shortly after Himeya encountered Nexus, Galberos came to Earth and became Himeya's first opponent in his career as Ultraman. Although defeated, Galberos returned later under Dark Mephisto, using its illusion abilities to confuse Night Raiders. Nexus fought the three-headed Space Beast and Night Raiders gave support, but Galberos tricked the team into harming Nexus, allowing it and Mephisto to escape. Then, Mephisto came back with Galberos when he trapped Night Raiders and Nexus in his Dark Field. Nexus killed Galberos and Mephisto fled. However, Unknown Hand revived Galberos again to assist Mega Flash. Nexus killed the wolf-like Space Beast once more.

Arguably the most iconic Space Beast, Galberos has reappeared many more times in the franchise. It is often under control of a sinister alien too, just like in its original appearances.
----
* BreakoutVillain: As the ''Nexus'' monster with the most reappearances in the franchise, Galberos is definitely this for the Space Beasts.
* BreathWeapon: Fireballs.
* EarlyBirdCameo: First appears in a flashback in "Relic" before appearing properly in Episode 17 "Darkness".
* {{Hellhound}}: Carries strong motifs of Cerberus.
* InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons: Its main head is that of an eyeless dragon.

!!Rafleya
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rafleya.jpg

-->'''First Appearance''': Warning
A flower-like Space Beast, Rafleya terrorized humans with its incinerating pollen. Night Raiders came to assist Nexus against the monster and its master Dark Faust. However, they realized that killing Rafleya would create a deadly combustion from its pollen, so Nexus was left to handle it. Rafleya escaped with its master though. Later when Nexus was fighting Faust and Rafleya again, Night Raiders entered the Meta-Field and helped even the odds for the silver hero. Rafleya was destroyed in a fiery burst, but Nexus saved Night Raiders from potential incineration.
----
* BreathWeapon: A blast of burning pollen.
* ManEatingPlant: Being a Space Beast, the man-eating comes naturally.
* MeaningfulName: Named after the Rafflesia flower.
* NoBodyLeftBehind: Victims of its burning pollen are turned into piles of ash, though their clothes are left in their original condition.
* PlantAliens: A flower-like Space Beast.

!!Nosferu

A horrible rodent Space Beast, Nosferu [[spoiler:had killed Riko and her family many years ago. Faust revived Riko and took her body for a host, but her time with Komon was starting to weaken Faust's power over her.]] Soon when, Nexus battled Faust and Nosferu, the Space Beast attempted to kill Komon, but [[spoiler:Riko, now in full control of Faust, sacrificed herself.]] Nexus destroyed Nosferu, but it soon regenerated and attacked a happy family, killing the parents and reviving them as minions to feed their former children to it. It managed to imprison the young daughter (also named Riko) in its head and Nexus refused to kill it for fear of the loss of human life. Night Raiders, unaware, did the blow, injuring the girl. Nosferu regenerated again and attacked Night Raiders. It escaped when Komon lost the courage to kill it and soon grew back to its full size. This time, Night Raiders knew its weakness and Nexus helped them out. They destroyed its regenerative organ and Nexus destroyed the horrid Space Beast permanently. Nosferu has the notable of honor of being the Space Beast to appear in the most episodes at 6 in a row.
----
* AchillesHeel: Its mouth as that's where its regeneration organ lies
* FromASingleCell: The Night Raiders get a lot of trouble from Nosferu because of this.
* MeaningfulName: After [[Film/{{Nosferatu}} the famous cinema vampire]].

!!Arakunia
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/arakunia.png

-->'''First Appearance''': Apocalypse
Smaller than most other Space Beasts, 2 Arakunias attacked workers at a factory and Night Raiders headed in. Mizorogi and Nagi killed both creatures. Arakunia also appeared in a BonusEpisode where one attacks Shiori, but she is saved by Night Raiders and soon recruited.

!!Frogos
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frogos_galaxy.png

-->'''First Appearance''': Apocalypse
A "small" amphibian-like Space Beast, a single Frogos was in the same factory as the 2 Arakunias. Nagi killed the monster with a slew of shots. Despite Frogos' extremely minor appearance, it has reappeared several more times in the franchise (all of them just as brief). However, it received a size boost to match it up with standard Ultra monsters.
----
* BreathWeapon: Green fireballs.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Only appeared very briefly in a flashback in ''Nexus''. His reappearance in ''Series/UltraGalaxyMegaMonsterBattle'' was equally brief.
* YourSizeMayVary: In ''Mega Monster Battle'', Frogos' sized is boosted from 10 meters to 40 meters. Justified as the majority of Ultra monsters are around that size or larger, so the producers needed to equal the odds for Frogos.

!!Golgolem
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/golgolem.png

-->'''First Appearance''': Cross Phase Trap
The rocky Space Beast known as Golgolem ate people in the Japanese mountains, catching Night Raiders attention. The problem was it was able to phase through various sub-spaces and Nexus, injured from his battle with Galberos, was unable to stop the monster. When Golgolem began to take interest in a nearby town, Night Raiders set up a trap that would disable its phasing powers. It worked, but the presence of some journalists photographing the monster forced Night Raiders to change tactics. Nexus came in, and although he destroyed Golgolem's NestedMouths, it fled. Night Raiders used the time to create a plane with Golgolem's phasing abilities. They drew it out and Nexus fought it. He killed the monster, but the hero was no longer fit to fight anymore.
----
* BarrierWarrior: Can create a small shield in front of itself.
* BreathWeapon: Fireballs from its NestedMouths.
* {{Invisibility}}: Can phase in and out of our world to effectively do this.
* NestedMouths: At the very tip of its OverlyLongTongue - perfect for eating humans.
* OverlyLongTongue: About the length of its body!
* PowerCrystal: Several on its back that act as the source of its phasing powers. They can be destroyed, but will regenerate given time.
* RockMonster: A big, quadrupedal one. Funny enough, the suit would later be used to make another quadruped rock monster - Gromite from ''Series/UltramanMebius''

!!Kutuura
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kutuuraep22_23.png

-->'''First Appearance''': Cure
The vile Space Beast Kutuura was used by Dark Mephisto to attract the attentions of Night Raiders and the wounded Nexus. It opened up portals to its home, the Land of the Dead, at six specific locations to form a code which Night Raiders cracked. Nexus entered the portals and battled the horrid monster. However, Kutuura overpowered the weakened hero, but Night Raiders entered the scene, annihilating the lord of the Land of the Dead with their new weapon - the Ultimate Vanisher.
----
* BodyHorror: An asymmetrical mass of tentacles and tormented faces on legs
* BreathWeapon: Explosive black smoke from its main face.
* CombatTentacles: Numerous, which it uses to snag victims from our world and drag them into the Land of the Dead.

* NightmareFace: Numerous in resemblance of ''The Scream''.
* OverlyLongTongue: Several of its faces have these which act as tentacles.

!!Grantella
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/2010071914222663c.jpg

-->'''First Appearance''': Prophecy
Sort of a mix of a crab and a scorpion, the Space Beast Grantella rampaged in the Japanese countryside. Night Raiders entered to battle and were surprised to see Nexus alive and well. The hero had been reborn with a new host - Ren Senjyu! Nexus fought the monster in his Meta-Field, but before he could kill it, Unknown Hand took Grantella to safety. Later, Night Raiders discovered Grantella had been conserving its true strength to study the new Nexus and the Space Beast returned, now with the full extent of its power. Nexus still managed to slay the monster though.
----

* ScaryScorpions: Complete with stinger tail.
* StarterVillain: For Ren's career as Ultraman Nexus.

!!Banpira
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/banpira_galaxy.png

-->'''First Appearance''': Calling
A horrible spider-like Space Beast, Banpira made a life in the mountains, striking hikers and campers from the safety of its fog and making sure survivors were without memory of its attacks. Night Raiders suspected right though when they believed a Space Beast was behind the amnesiac attacks and managed to clear out its fog. Nexus came in and Night Raiders assisted it. However, Banpira got away, but not before its fog-generating organ was destroyed. Changing tactics, Banpira marched for civilization, but Nexus came back and trapped it in the Meta-Field, killing the spider monster in it. Banpira has reappeared several more times outside of ''Nexus''.
----
* BreathWeapon: Webbing, of course, since its a spider Space Beast.
* DirtyCoward: Prefers to attack humans from the cover of its fog.
* GiantSpider: The biggest one in the franchise.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Can erase memories of its existence with a flash of its eyes on survivors.
* MakeMeWannaShout: A sonic screech.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Being a GiantSpider, it has four of them.
* OneShotCharacter: Although Banpira reappeared in ''Series/UltraGalaxyMegaMonsterBattle'', it is the only MonsterOfTheWeek, asides Izmael, to only appear in a single episode of ''Ultraman Nexus''.
* OminousFog: Has an organ above its head that allows it to create such for attacks.
* VillainDecay: In ''Series/UltraGalaxyMegaMonsterBattle'', Banpira is one of the show's weakest kaiju, standing absolutely no chance against Rei's Gomora. It doesn't even use any of its powers!

!!Lizarias[=/=]Lizarias Golar
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/saurusa02mm4.jpg

-->'''First Appearance''': The Watcher
The saurian Space Beast Lizarias terrorized the Japanese countryside until Nexus came and blew the monster to pieces. However, the cleanup crew failed to notice a single scale, and soon Lizarias Golar was born from it! Lizarias Golar was soon attacked by Nexus and Night Raiders. When the Meta-Field came down on it, Unknown Hand turned it into a Dark Field and Lizarias began to overpower Nexus. However, Night Raiders and Nexus managed to kill the monster.
----
* BellyMouth: As Lizarias Golar.
* BreathWeapon An energy beam.
* CameBackStrong: Far stronger as Lizarias Golar.
* EverythingsBetterWithDinosaurs: The only dinosaur-based monster in ''Nexus''.
* FromASingleCell A single scale actually, which allows it to reform into Lizarias Golar.

!!Mega Flash
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3335___megaflash.jpg

-->'''First Appearance''': A.D. 2004
The flying Space Beast Mega Flash first appeared over an urban region and it began to cause chaos. Ren was forced to transform into Nexus in front of the whole world and Night Raiders came in. However, Unknown Hand called Mega Flash away. Later Mega Flash returned again and Nexus fought it in the eyes of thousands. Mega Flash escaped underground, but soon burst back out. This time assisted by a revived Galberos, Mega Flash put up a difficult battle for both Nexus and Night Raiders. However, Mega Flash was destroyed by Night Raiders. Galberos followed its ally into death suite.
----
* CombatTentacles: A weird variant as Mega Flash creates tentacles out of energy to snatch victims.
* FlyingSeafoodSpecial: Something akin to a giant mix of a sea hare and a nautilus
* KnightOfCerebus: The first Space Beast to attack a civilized region, making him one for [=TLT=]
* ShockAndAwe: Can shoot lightning bolts from its body.
* VillainTeamUp: With Galberos

!!Izmael
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/th_3.jpg

-->'''First Appearance''': Farewell
Out of monsters, Unknown Hand unleashed all the deceased Space Beasts in the form of a monstrous chimera named Izmael. Izmael rampaged through the city and Ren, [[spoiler:on the brink of death]], became Nexus once more. The Night Raiders helped out, but it took more than everything the forces of good had to slay the ultimate Space Beast. [[spoiler:By the time the battle was over, the light was to be passed down again.]]
----
* BewareMyStingerTail: Borrowed from Grantella.
* BreathWeapon: From Lizarias.
* CombatTentacles: From Kutuura as well as Golgolem's tongue
* DiscOneFinalBoss: [[spoiler:You'd think that a chimera of all the previous Space Beasts would be the final villain as per a typical Ultra Series entry, but nope!]]
* MixAndMatchCritters[=/=]HybridMonster: In the vein of monsters like Jumbo King and Giga Chimera, Esmael is a walking mass of the various body parts of previous monsters.
* MultipleHeadCase: Essentially it's covered in the heads of all the previous Space Beasts, though only Lizarias' head is active.
* ShockAndAwe: Borrowed from Mega Flash.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Ezmael is also used.

!!Bugbuzun Golar and Bugbuzun Brood
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/buzun2.png

-->'''First Appearance''': [[BonusEpisode Ultraman Nexus [=EX=]]]
A more powerful variant of the original Bugbuzun, Bugbuzun Golar spawned dozens of Bugbuzun Broods to eat humans and in turn be eaten for what the Broods gained from their hunts. Night Raiders was unable to detect the Broods due to their modified Space Beast signals. However, one Brood made the mistake of attacking Night Raiders. As Night Raiders hunted them down, Ren encountered a Brood and it was transformed into a giant by Unknown Hand. Nexus was summoned and the two fought in the Meta-Field. Nexus killed it easily while Night Raiders managed to injure another one's face, altering the Space Beast signal and finally letting them find the Golar. The Golar burst from the earth and attacked Night Raiders. Ren called forth Nexus and killed the monster.

The Bugbuzun Broods made a surprise return in the ''Series/UltramanX'' episode "Bond Unite", a {{Homage}} to ''Ultraman Nexus'' celebrating the 10th anniversary of the series' end, featuring a guest appearance from Nexus as well as re-explorations of the show's themes and concepts. They even invited ''Nexus''' director to produce the episode! Oddly, Bugbuzun Golar is never referenced in any way.
----
* BigCreepyCrawlies: As per the original Bugbuzun.
* BreathWeapon: The Broods breathe confusion gas.
* CombatTentacles: Used by the Golar in the same way as the normal Bugbuzun.
* MakeMyMonsterGrow: The human-sized Bugbuzun Brood always gets turned giant-sized whenever it appears.
* MookMaker: Bugbuzun Golar creates Bugbuzun Broods to search for human prey. The Broods eat the humans and go back to their mother who eats them! Frighteningly, only the Bugbuzun Broods are seen when they return in ''Series/UltramanX'', suggesting the Golar is still out there...
* TunnelKing: The Golar hides underground while the Broods do the dirty work.
