!!2 Stupid Dogs
[[folder:Little Dog]]
[[quoteright:263:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/little_fdawg_2983.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/MarkSchiff

The smaller of the main duo, a brown dachshund.
----
* ButtMonkey: Tends to suffer more misfortune than Big Dog.
* TheDitz: Both him and Big Dog are downright morons. Him especially.
* DogsAreDumb: He's a dog and an idiot. He's so incredibly stupid that he doesn't even know his own name or age.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: His name is never given, so he is referred to in the credits as "Little Dog". One episode revealed he actually is so stupid that he doesn't even know his own name. Although a fan theory is that his name was originally going to be Pablo.
* FatAndSkinny: He's very skinny.
* IronicFear: A dog afraid of cats.
* {{Keet}}: He's very energetic when compared to Big Dog.
* LittleGuyBigBuddy: The little guy to Big Dog's big buddy.
* MotorMouth: In addition to being more talkative than Big Dog, he often talks at a rapid rate.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Big Dog's blue.
* ShorterMeansSmarter: Inverted. He's even dumber than Big Dog.
* TooDumbToLive: His idiocy often gets himself and his friend into dangerous situations that they only survive through sheer luck. Subverted in the case of Red, though. As the series goes on, he wises up to her and tries in vain to avoid her.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He's afraid of cats.

[[folder:Big Dog]]
[[quoteright:327:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bug_dawg_7881.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/BradGarrett

The larger of the main duo. A sheepdog.
----
* BigEater: He likes to eat and constantly thinks about food. During the Noah's Ark episode, he ate all of the food that was meant to food meant to last hundreds of animals for forty days and forty nights all at once.
* BigEyesLittleEyes: Underneath his bangs are two of the tiniest little pupils.
* TheDitz: Not as ditzy as Little Dog, but still quite moronic.
* DogsAreDumb: He's a dog and an idiot. He's not ''as'' dumb as Little Dog, but that's not saying much.
* DumbMuscle: He's stronger than Little Dog, given his greater size.
* TheEeyore: He is much less joyful than Little Dog.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: He doesn't normally have a name, but he is called "Big Dog" in the credits and is occasionally addressed as "Johnathan" or "Johnny" in the series.
* ExtremeOmnivore: He quite often eats stuff that isn't food. He even claims that he can eat an airplane in the episode "Trash Day".
* EyesOutOfSight: His eyes are obscured by a small puff of hair. His vision is perfectly fine though.
* FatAndSkinny: Fat to Little Dog's skinny.
* GeniusBruiser: Downplayed. He's much stronger than Little Dog, and is noticeably quite a little bit smarter than him as well, basically making him the brains and brawn of the duo. However, while he is the smarter of the two, that's not saying much.
* GeniusDitz: Whenever the situation calls for it, he can actually be smarter than Little Dog. However, his intelligence is still pretty limited despite this.
* GentleGiant: He's very big and very friendly.
* HiddenDepths: It's hinted that he may actually be more oblivious and unconcerned with his surroundings than "stupid".
* {{Leitmotif}}: His standalone scenes are usually accompanied by a slow bass saxophone tune.
* LittleGuyBigBuddy: The big buddy to Little Dog's little guy.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: Occasionally has a stroke of brilliance, like when he told Kenny Fowler that love isn't easy in "Love Doctors" or informs the female mail-carrier in "Post Office" that she shouldn't [[GoingPostal channel her anger into destructive outlets]] when she enters the post office with a bomb over Big Dog tackling her all the time.
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Little Dog's red.
* TooDumbToLive: As with Little Dog, his stupidity often gets him into situations that they only survive through chance.

!!Schoolkids

[[folder:Kenny Fowler]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kenny_fowler.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/JarrettLennon
A sweet but naive little schoolboy, who the 2 stupid dogs help with schoolwork.
----
* ABoyAndHisX: Double whammy. A boy and his '''two''' stupid dogs.
* ButtMonkey: Kenny usually gets bullied, beaten up, and blamed for things he didn't do.
* NerdGlasses: Kenny has this black-rimmed glasses. Wouldn't be a nerd without them.
* PhraseCatcher: "What a Fowler!" solely from Buzz.
* ThePollyanna: No matter how much pain and suffering Kenny goes through, his emotions only seem to range from mildly upset to somewhat disappointed at most.
* ThisLoserIsYou: As an elementary schooler, Kenny is relatable to the show's target audience.
* TinySchoolboy: Even for an elementary schooler, he's a bit small.
* YouthfulFreckles: Kenny has three freckles on each cheek.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Buzz]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/buzz_8.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/WhitHertford
The overachieving and comical school bully, who usually targets Kenny.
----
* TheBully: Always bullies Kenny and uses his last name as an insult against him.
* {{Catchphrase}}: "What a Fowler!"
* KarmaHoudini: Buzz rarely, if ever, gets punished for bullying Kenny. His antics generally warrant a mild scolding from Mrs. Crabface.
* MeaningfulName: His name is buzz and he has a buzzcut.
* PetTheDog: In "Substitute Teacher", when Kenny is hooked up to a machine, which is designed to shock him after giving the wrong answers. Though he gets the answers to questions wrong, the machine gives him candy. Hollywood Guy tries it and gets shocked even when he doesn't say anything. The scene pans down to reveal Buzz messing with the machine, letting Kenny win each time.
* {{Symbolism}}: In "Substitute Teacher", Kenny and Buzz did a Civil War reenactment. Buzz's evil was symbolized by himself playing a confederate soldier.
-->'''Buzz''': [[StockPhrases The south shall rise again!]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Buffy Ziegenhagen]]
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/buffy.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TawniTamietti
Kenny's love interest, who occasionally bullies him.
----
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Buffy finds her lover, Kenny rather [[AbhorrentAdmirer unappealing]], treating him with the same amount of disrespect as she'd treat a frog.
-->'''Buffy''': Aah! A Kenny!
* AnimalLover: Zig Zagged. She likes playing with the two stupid dogs and thinks they're cute and funny. However, in "Substitute Teacher", she was disgusted by a frog.
* BestialityIsDepraved: In "Show and Tell", Buffy was interested in seeing Kenny flash Little Dog's penis to the class, reacting as though she derived some sort of romantic pleasure from witnessing it.
-->'''Buffy''': Oooooh!
* TheBully: Though not nearly to the same degree as Buzz, Buffy has been shown to be mean to Kenny and often joins Buzz and his friends in making fun of him.
* CharacterDevelopment: In "Love Doctors", Buffy got more screen time than usual. Here, she became friends with the dogs [[spoiler:and Kenny, and even showed signs of falling in love with him at the end of the episode.]]
* LoveInterest: Kenny is in love with her.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female student at the school with a name and occasional dialogue, aside from Griselda.

!!Others

[[folder:Mr. Hollywood]]
[[quoteright:201:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mr__hollyswdood_5999.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/BrianCummings

A large man who often crosses paths with the dogs.
----
* BoisterousBruiser: He's a big man and often tries to act friendly toward the two dogs.
* CatchPhrase: Aww, isn't that cute? '''BUT IT'S WRONG!!'''
* FatBastard: He's overweight and often serves as an antagonist to the dogs.
* GroinAttack: He frequently suffers blows to the crotch.
* InexplicablyIdenticalIndividuals: Most evident in the episode "Pie in the Sky", where every employee at the mall looks and sounds like him.
* LargeHam: He's this whenever he says his catchphrase.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: He has a different job depending on what's needed for the episode's plot.
* NoIndoorVoice: He shouts nearly all his dialogue.
* OutOfFocus: Hollywood appears less in the 2nd season, only appearing in two episodes (''Post Office'' and ''Love'').
* SmallNameBigEgo: He has an inflated opinion of himself, considering that the two dogs are the only customers or co-workers he tends to have.
* SolidCartoonFacialStubble: Befitting the show's simplistic art direction, Mr. Hollywood has a grayish-brown patch extending from his eyes down to his [[NoNeckChump shirt collar]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Red]]
[[quoteright:167:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reddy_for_the_reddy_9633.PNG]]
->Voiced by: Creator/CandiMilo

An expy of Literature/LittleRedRidingHood who turns up every so often to drag the dogs along on her misadventures.
----
* CuteButCacophonic: She looks adorable, but it's quite loud when she screams.
* DoomMagnet: The first two of her three appearances lead her and the dogs to a BadEnding.
** First appearance ends with them being mauled by [[{{Literature/Goldilocks}} The Three Bears]]
** Second Appearance ends with them being eaten by a [[Literature/HanselAndGretel witch]].
*** Her third appearance actually leads to a happy ending but, at the start, the dogs panic and Little Dog called her an "evil little girl", calling back to their last two encounters. They once again tagged along due to the FoodAndAnimalAttraction.
* FishEyes: Her default expression. It even plays into her inability to recognize her grandma.
* FoodAndAnimalAttraction: Her plot related-foods (canned cheese spray, cheesecake, and dog food [''"meat by-products"'']) not only grabs the dogs attention, but each episode's animals' as well.
* NoIndoorVoice: She randomly screams words in her sentences.
* PublicDomainSoundtrack: She can usually be heard singing the chorus to the ''1812 Overture''.
* SuddenlyShouting: Is Red speaking? Yes? Is she screaming? No? Well, better brace yourself.
* TemporaryBulkChange: A witch once fattened her up so much that she was bulging out of the cage she was trapped in, yet in the end card when shes in the witches stomach she's back to her normal size.
* TooDumbToLive: Is an even worse case of this trope than even the titular duo.
* VerbalTic: Has an odd habit of suddenly yelling certain words in a sentence.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Cubby]]
[[quoteright:249:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cubby.png]]
-> Voiced by: Rob Paulsen

An overweight, flatulent teenager with acne and a nasal voice. He goes through numerous jobs over the course of the series, all of them cashier positions.
----
* ExtremeDoormat: He fills one of two roles: either answering questions for the dogs, or getting (accidentally) beat up. Usually one then the other.
* {{Gasshole}}: Lets out a squeaky fart whenever he's excited.
* NerdGlasses: Wears glasses, and is a bit of a dweeb.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands: Any time the dogs go into a store, restaurant, or movie theater, he's behind the counter.
* NiceGuy: He's usually perky and helpful. He's also pretty forgiving of the dogs' mishaps, which often end in his injury. This is his main contrast with Hollywood.
* TheDogBitesBack: On a number of occasions, lashes back at the two stupid dogs and kicks them out of wherever he's working at the time.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:The Witch]]
An Expy of the Witch from ''[[Literature/HanselAndGretel Hansel and Gretel]]'', she turns up in "Red Strikes Back" when Red and the two Stupid Dogs unexpectedly showed up at her GingerbreadHouse instead of the other two children she's expecting. Hungry, she settles for luring and trying to eat Red and the two Stupid Dogs instead.
----
* AdaptationalAttractiveness: The witch in the original ''[[{{Literature/HanselAndGretel}} Hansel and Gretel]]'' was an old and ugly crone who couldn't even see straight. Here we have a HotWitch with [[ImpossibleHourglassFigure shapey figure]] and an AgeLift.
* TheBadGuyWins: [[spoiler:She ultimately succeeds in eating Red and the two Stupid Dogs, who are last depicted in the ending title card trapped inside her stomach.]]
* DressedLikeADominatrix: Wears high heel boots, a skintight purple bodysuit, and carries a whip. All meant to invoke the image of a dominatrix.
* {{Expy}}: Of the Witch from Literature/HanselAndGretel, on account of the fact she explicitly mentioned to be waiting for a certain Hansel and Gretel, only to find Red and the two Stupid Dogs at her doorstep.
* HopeSpot: After eating Red, she backs the two Stupid Dogs into a corner, clearly intent on eating them next. Little Dog, shaking with fear, says that all they wanted was some canned cheese. The Witch smiles and presents them with a can of spray cheese, to which the two Stupid Dogs react with delight. [[spoiler:But rather than give it to them, she sprays some on top of their heads before she devours them.]]
* IAmAHumanitarian: She is a cannibalistic witch, but doesn't restrict herself to eating children [[spoiler:as she eventually consumes the two [[TalkingAnimals Stupid Dogs]] as well]].
* PunchClockVillain: She was expecting (and looking forward to eating) Hansel and Gretel, only to find Red and the two Stupid Dogs at her doorsteps. She settles for eating them instead.
* ShapeShifting: Is capable of turning herself or other things into various animals or objects with her magic. [[spoiler:She turns the cage housing a fattened Red into a cannon and herself into a giant frog to launch, catch and eat Red]].
* SwallowedWhole: [[spoiler:Does this to Red in the form of a giant frog after spending two years and eight months fattening her up]].
* VillainousGlutton: As expected of a cannibalistic witch. Even after [[spoiler:eating Red]], she is still not satisfied, causing her to turn on [[spoiler:and eat the two Stupid Dogs too]].
