[[folder:Keima Katsuragi]]

->Voiced by: Creator/HiroShimono (JP), Creator/SanaeKobayashi (JP, child), Creator/ChrisPatton (EN)

Keima is a 17-year-old student known throughout the internet as "[[AGodAmI The Capturing God]]"[[note]]"God of Conquest" in the English Dub[[/note]] for his unrivaled mastery of ''[[DatingSim Galge]]''. He vehemently claims to have no interest in reality or 3-D girls, instead preferring the company of his video game characters. Therefore, while a legend in the gaming world, in real life he's an anti-social {{otaku}} whom most students avoid. Despite his lack of real world social skills, he demonstrates immense confidence and remarkable intelligence, and is in fact [[TheAce at the top of his class in every subject]] [[GeekPhysique except PE]].

His life is changed completely one day when he unwittingly accepts a contract from hell that pairs him up with Elsea to capture evil spirits that are possessing girls in the real world. Using his vast knowledge and experience gained from playing hundreds of dating sims, Keima must win the hearts of young women in spite of his disinterest in reality.

At the start of the series, he's [[LonersAreFreaks isolated]], rude, thoughtless and inclined towards abusiveness. However, as time goes on, he goes through some remarkably steady development and shows a surprising amount of concern for the girls he captures.
----
* AccidentalPervert: On a few occasions he'll accidentally stumble in on girls like Haqua while they're changing, though he rarely cares. Occasionally, though, he invokes his bad luck in this regard in order to finish a capture more quickly.
* AloofBigBrother: To Elsie. His treatment of her is, at worst, AnnoyingYoungerSibling level.
* AntiHero: Keima is rude, antisocial and if left to his own devices he never would have begun the capture operations. However, over time, he grows invested in the work for its own sake as he grows to care more about the targets, making him more heroic over time.
* AscendedFanBoy: Unknown to him, he is the epicenter of the [[DatingSim Gal Game]] industry, to the point he and his site were responsible for the industry's re-invigoration while it was in shambles. Also he was asked to direct a game of his desire, but he refused in the end.
* {{Asexual}}: Matters of romance and emotions aside, Keima has no sex drive whatsoever.
* AttractiveBentGender: [[http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/the_world_god_only_knows/en/0/141/page/7 Behold, the God of Being Captured!]] He does cheat with magic a little, though.
* AwesomenessByAnalysis: Thanks to his gaming experience, he's able to deduce many key aspects of his targets and instantly become an expert at any board game. He also uses this skill in academics, by reducing the lessons to a few important key points and predicting test questions. Finally, this is what he uses to generally get the gist of whatever situation he's in, allowing him [[TheChessmaster to plan his moves]] or [[XanatosSpeedChess make quick adjustments whenever his original plan starts to go out of track]].
* BadassBoast: Keima is quite fond of these, from "I can already see the ending" to "I will end this capture in X days". They are [[SpannerInTheWorks not always true, however]].
* BatmanGambit: The setup Keima uses [[spoiler:to out Fiore as an agent of Vintage]]. Bonus points for coming up with it [[XanatosSpeedChess almost immediately]] after meeting her.
---> ''[[DangerouslyGenreSavvy The unknown person who shows up in the middle of a crisis is always suspicious...IN VIDEO GAMES!]]''
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: During Kanon's capture he complains about her using stun guns. Fair enough, but then he proceeds to say that he wishes he could have a normal girl for a target for once. By the time the story gets to [[TheGenericGirl Chihiro]] being the capture target, he has absolutely no clue what to do since normal girls do not appear much in galge as main characters. Therefore, notwithstanding the eventual capture, he consistently fails to read Chihiro properly throughout the entire manga [[spoiler:(See BreakHerHeartToSaveHer entry for further details)]].
* BerserkButton: Anything that questions his status as the Capturing God. Also, do not mock or harm Yokkyun in any way.
* TheBGrade: Once has a minor breakdown because he gets a 99 on one of his tests. Not entirely for the usual reason in this case; he also has a deal with his teachers that he can play games in class as long as he gets perfect scores.
* BigBrotherInstinct: To Elsie, even though they're not blood-related. He'd deny it himself if asked, though.
* BishieSparkle: He can turn them on at will.
* {{Bishonen}}: While he's usually a nerd, when pursuing a target and downplaying his interest in games, the fact that he's actually quite handsome comes to light. In the first novel, [[spoiler:Yoshino Ikumi]] is surprised to see that he really is as handsome as [[spoiler:her sister]] described.
* BreakHerHeartToSaveHer: [[spoiler:Pushes Chihiro away after her confession to him because she isn't a goddess host and thus being close to him would put her in danger and get in the way of him finding Mercury. Regardless of the fact that she would want to be close to him. He obviously ends up very depressed afterward, enough to put him into tears over a ''real'' girl for the first time]].
* BrilliantButLazy: Subverted. Keima puts exactly as little effort as needed in anything that does not interest him… only said effort is just as much as needed to ''excel'' at such tasks. Particularly during capture operations, Keima sometimes withstands days and weeks of tedious menial labor just for the sake of setting up the needed scenario.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Most of the teachers just ignore his playing while in class as he gets the best grades anyway.
* ButtMonkey: Everyone loves to beat on him, ''especially'' the girls. Justified, considering he can be a bit of a {{Jerkass}} to...well, anything that has anything to do with reality.
* CatchPhrase
** "I can already see the ending!"
** And (usually to Elsie) "Let me teach you something nice", with ArtShift to follow.
** ''''[[BerserkButton Don't screw with me!]]''''
** Appended to any statement about the way the world works: "...In video games."
* CharacterDevelopment: In general, he's gone from a {{Jerkass}} to a JerkWithAHeartOfGold. Indeed, one way of looking at it is that he's becoming exactly what the ideal hero of the dating sim is supposed to be like: Kind deep down, brave, determined and self sacrificing. He's also become willing to put more time and effort into the captures as well as being less flustered when things actually go according to plan. Several of the arcs also have more specific development such as:
** Kanon's arc appears to have him skip the easy option of just being the person Kanon relies on and instead both making her grow up and allowing her to keep being an idol, which she genuinely enjoys. It's hinted later on in the Tenri arc that this kind of solution to the problem would have made an unstable, shallow love and reopened Kanon's gap, so it's a good thing that he had started to mature by that point. [[spoiler:On the other hand, this does backfire about a hundred chapters later: It made her think Keima was just the observer type, causing her to hesitate too long to confide in him, which nearly got her killed.]]
** Chihiro's arc has him realize he couldn't just ignore the real world and pretend he's not part of it. Nor can he ignore the people in it and dismiss them as though he actually understands them. When the plot comes back to Chihiro, [[spoiler:he also agrees with Ayumi that he is 'the worst' for how poorly he handled the situation, once again because he falsely believed he understood her. He ends up in tears because he had to hurt her]].
** Jun's arc is the first time where he's willing to admit he actually cares about the personal problems of the capture targets. As he mentions in surprise to Nikaido, when he sees Jun upset for some reason he actually ''cares.''
** Tsukiyo's arc has him abandoning his earlier behavior of not wanting to put himself in danger by leaping from a building and [[VariableTerminalVelocity somehow grabbing her in midair]]. While Elsie was there to catch him, if she hadn't done that he would have surely died.
** He shows significant development in Akari's arc wherein he realizes living in an imperfect world isn't all that bad.
--> ''If the world is perfect...[[CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming then there wouldn't be a need for love now would there?]]''
** Keima goes all out to save [[spoiler:Kanon after she was stabbed]]. After meeting with [[spoiler:Minami]] he also directly indicates both being greatly concerned for the girl's well-being while also slightly depressed that he has been forgotten.
--> '''Haqua:''' It's like you were rejected twice in a row after your conquests... Feeling sad?\\
'''Keima:''' It's good that she's forgotten... This way... She won't get involved in all this.
* ChasteHero: Keima does not even raise an eyebrow seeing Haqua while she's taking off her panties.
* TheChessmaster: He's basically what [[CodeGeass Lelouch]] or [[Manga/DeathNote Light]] would have been if they were into scoring chicks, real or virtual. Kind of comes with being a MagnificentBastard. It's a package deal.
* ChickMagnet: In the DatingSim world, there is no-one mightier than our Capturing God and it seems this has translated over to real life. Even when he's not trying to capture the girl like with Chihiro and Nanaka, he ''still'' gets them.
* TheChosenOne: [[spoiler:Keima is the most important part of New Hell's plan to save the world, and apparently the only one who could even do the job]].
* ConsummateLiar: He's very good at pretending to be something else. Usually during a capture he has a completely different personality.
* CrazyPrepared: Keima's P.E. teacher tries confiscating his PFP before swimming. Keima then brings out another one. The teacher takes that one too. What does Keima do? He takes out 6 more all at once. Even as a kid, he had 8 portable game consoles and 100 spare batteries. They even came in useful.
* TheCuckoolanderWasRight: Mock his dating sim based strategies all you like, ''they work.''
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Brown hair and brown eyes. He mentions briefly early on that in his school there's nobody with odd hair or eye colors[[note]]For whatever reason, he's ignoring Kanon, who he's already met[[/note]], meaning he's supposed to look normal.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: "Capturing God Mode"/"The God of Conquest Mode". Using it will burn out three years of your life an hour! ...or at least, that's how you'll feel afterward.
* DeadpanSnarker: Not a full part of his personality but he has his moments.
--> '''Yui:''' I'll teach you what true love is.\\
'''Keima:''' That's impossible when the couple is cross-dressing.
* DeclarationOfProtection: To Tsukiyo.
* {{Determinator}}: More so in later chapters.
-->'''Keima:''' There is always a chance of success! And if there isn't any... I'll just have to make one.
* DisguisedInDrag: Does this a bit during the ''Heart of Jupiter'' arc.
* DistressedDude: He [[InvokedTrope plays this role]] with [[spoiler:Yui and Mars]] as his KnightInShiningArmor in the horror house.
* DoubleStandardAbuseFemaleOnMale: He is often on the receiving end of physical attacks by the girls. Were the roles reversed, he would be seen as a monster abusing helpless women.
* EveryManHasHisPrice: Played for laughs, then forgotten by the next page, in the Yui recapture arc. {{Bifauxnen}} Yui is treating him like a weak girl, telling how she will protect him from bullying, carry him at their wedding, make him wear a dress... He is furious. But in a brilliant display of [[GenreSavvy Genre Savviness]] she points out that if he married her, he wouldn't have to do any work, and could play video games all the time. All he can say to that is "... really?"
* FlashStep: He does this to Ayumi in FLAG 163. The scene is the current trope image.
* ForgetsToEat: Once he played 2 weeks' worth of backlog games for 20 hours straight yet did not eat. In the end he hallucinated and sang, then got woken up by Elsie who then lampshaded the importance of eating. It happens again later, helping spark off the Chihiro capture after she badmouthed him.
* FreakyFridayFlip: In the 9-chapter Yui arc the pair switch bodies. Even funnier is when he went over to the "dark side of gaming" and started to play {{Otome Game}}s.
* FriendlessBackground: Played with. He certainly didn't have any friends, but that's because he didn't want any. When Jun sees him playing games alone at lunch, she assumes he must be too shy to talk to people.
* GeekPhysique: He's at the top of his class, is '''the''' [[RedBaron God of Conquest]], but his body is rather frail because he forgets to get himself in shape due to his obsession with video games. During arcs that require him to be more physically active, he is frequently shown getting exhausted.
* GenreBlindness: While normally he's incredibly savvy, some situations just don't ''work'' if he recognizes an obvious situation. For example, [[spoiler:failing to realize that in a MatchmakerCrush situation the actual target you're supposed to pursue is never who the matchmaker is pushing you towards]]. If he did realize this, the entire arc would fall apart or require a drastic resorting of how he considers relationships, such as properly recognizing Haqua and Diana for the {{Tsundere}}s that they are.
* GenreSavvy: He applies FridgeLogic from video games, and ''it works''. [[WrongGenreSavvy Usually]].
* AGodAmI: Keima calls himself the Capturing God and conducts himself accordingly.
* GuileHero: He's [[GeekPhysique useless in physical confrontations]], but thanks to his skill in strategy and seduction, pulls most of the weight in the series.
* HatesBeingTouched: He doesn't like being touched, but he will allow himself to be touched if he has to.
* HeroicBSOD:
** Has a not depressing, but still severe (and kinda funny) one after realizing how feminine he has become while in Yui's body during her arc. It even got him into monologuing his "will"!
** Has a much more depressing and serious one, including a [[ShowerOfAngst Bathtub of Angst]], after [[spoiler:he is forced to break Chihiro's heart after realizing she isn't a goddess' host]].
** He tries to invoke this in FLAG 238 [[spoiler:in order to dispel any thoughts on Tenri's part regarding the kiss between him and Kaori,]] but [[PlayedStraight later falls into another serious one]] in FLAG 239 [[spoiler:after bumping into Chihiro and Ayumi.]]
* HeroicRROD: Caused by exhaustion from trying to get 6 captures in 1 1/2 weeks. [[spoiler:Fortunately, Apollo cured his exhaustion and cold]].
* HeroWithBadPublicity
** He's referred to as Otamegane by numerous people. The nickname is a shortening of {{Otaku}} [[NerdGlasses Megane]]. He's famous for being "the weirdest weirdo"
** He has to battle a different type of publicity issue when [[spoiler: Kanon, a famous idol,]] confessed to him in the middle of the class. Later, he embraces this to get results as quickly as possible because [[spoiler:people who still have their memories would think he's a two-timing jerk]] and get mad at him. Haqua calls him the worst of all men for his extremely manipulative behavior in this arc, though she shows she didn't really mean it moments later. Still, when that's what your biggest helper has to say about your plan then that's not a very good sign for your reputation.
* IGaveMyWord: Although Keima wants to blow off helping Chihiro's band study, he did promise that if Chihiro or Ayumi ever needed him he would be there for them. He grumbles about how he shouldn't have said that since they weren't going to remember anyway but he ''did'' promise.
* IKnowMortalKombat: It's remarkable just how well video games translate to reality for him.
* ILoveYouBecauseICantControlYou: [[spoiler:Dokurou/Nikaido thinks Keima fell in love with Chihiro for real because she's the only girl who never goes along with his expectations.]]
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Fakes this [[spoiler:in order to provoke a reaction from Dokuro in the Time Travel arc, but it costs him one of his four 'lives']].
* InsaneTrollLogic: Unfortunately, insane trolls appear to run his universe, so he's usually at least pretty close to being right.
* InSeriesNickname: He has two; "God of Walkthroughs," or simply "God" in the gaming world, while his RealLife classmates call him "[[{{Otaku}} ota]][[{{Megane}} mega]]".
* InstantExpert: He defeats Haqua at a game she brought from Hell that he has never seen before. She hasn't lost [[http://www.mangareader.net/120-6006-7/the-world-god-only-knows/chapter-47.html in the last 100 years]]. She doesn't stand a chance against God.
* IRejectYourReality: He refuses to acknowledge the real world and chooses the game world as his ideal world.
* {{Irony}}: Of the situational kind. While his "conquests" have at least one {{Moe}} stereotype which [[IKnowMortalKombat allows him to apply]] his DatingSim knowledge, [[spoiler:the one person he confesses his true, unscripted feelings for is apparently the capture target whom he [[IRejectYourReality adamantly rejects for being so associated with the real]].]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: Early on, he doesn't care at all about the problems of the capture targets and is only slightly concerned about Elsie.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Keima can be very rude, insensitive and self-centered, especially at the beginning. After great amounts of CharacterDevelopment, he still shows a tough demeanor, but has become a lot more noble and compassionate. He also has shown to care about Elsie and his capture targets. [[spoiler:It goes to the point that he actually cries in regret over having to dump Chihiro, the first girl he began to treat as more than just a capture target.]]
* LargeHam: When talking to anyone who's not a capture target, usually Elsie. Especially if it's about games. Which is about 99.9% of the time.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Elsie.
* LogicalWeakness: Three of them.
** First, ordinary girls like Chihiro or Asami with no clearly defined traits confuse him.
** Second, the energetic {{Cloudcuckoolander}} type like Tooru, since they operate outside logic and all of his technique is based on said logic.
** Third, aggressive girls like post-capture Yui. He plays games where he chases after girls. If a girl chases after him, he's as inexperienced as the next person and gets extremely flustered, something Haqua eventually picks up on.
* LonersAreFreaks: Eventually averted. He's just self-centered and mostly grows out of that.
* LoveTriangle: There are two revolving around him at different points. In the first novel, he seems to do it as a sort of SelfImposedChallenge, though the two girls in question rarely get in the other's way [[spoiler:until Tooru sees him kiss Asami]]. Later and in the proper manga, there's a love triangle of Chihiro -> Keima <- Ayumi that becomes a huge snarled mess.
* LudicrousPrecision: Born on June 6 at 11:29 and 35 seconds and can memorize real-life events on minute intervals. He justifies this by the amount of memorization needed to complete video games on multiple arcs, so he has to have precision at maximum. Which makes perfect sense given the amount of time he has played his video games.
* MadeOfIron: With all the physical abuse he goes through when exorcising, Keima is obviously like this, crappy performance in P.E. notwithstanding.
* ManipulativeBastard: He's very good at playing with the expectations and emotions of others, though generally for their own benefit.
-->'''Haqua:''' At any rate, your plan sure is clever! The Goddesses want to quickly release their hosts. And in order to do that, they need PowerOfLove. But with the [[FinaglesLaw current state of affairs]], only you can realize their dreams. There's no time to find new love. In the end, [[BatmanGambit the Goddesses]] have no choice but to accept you. Even if you are [[HandsomeLech the worst of all men]]. Not even [[EmotionEater the Weiss]] can compare to you. You definitely are the worst sort of '''Big Bad Guy!!'''
* MasterActor: Keima is very good at putting on an act to get girls to fall for him provided they fit certain archetypes seen in dating sims. Even if the girls don't fit those types, he's still able to improvise very quickly. Haqua is briefly disturbed when she sees him immediately shrug off one such persona as easily as most people take off masks.
* MateOrDie: A G-rated example. He must conquest other girls to exorcise the evil spirits possessing them, and fulfill his contract with hell. An ExplosiveLeash makes sure he does not skeedaddle out of it.
* MaybeEverAfter: [[spoiler:With Chihiro. He may have received a rejection of sorts after [[LoveConfession confessing his love to her]], but he later gets invited by her for tea.]]
* MeaningfulName: His first name Keima is derived from the term "gamer". It is also a homonym for Knight, a minor point for the Nanaka arc, referring to the "keima" shogi piece whose chess equivalent is the "knight".
* {{Megane}}: Justified; sometime in the last ten years, his eyesight deteriorated, requiring the use of glasses.
* MentalTimeTravel: Happened to him in the [[spoiler:"Heart of Jupiter"]] arc.
* MistakenForGay: Well, that's what happens when a {{Bifauxnen}} in a boy's uniform confesses to you in public.
* NerdsAreSexy: The girls who like Keima for who he is have an element of this, though they also admire his strong will and disregard of the authority of others.
* NervesOfSteel: When his life is threatened, he never loses his nerve.
* NoGuyWantsToBeChased: He says that girls pursuing the main character are death traps… in games, that is. Later on, Haqua infers that he is weak against aggressive women.
* NominalHero: Early on, Keima is only capturing runaway spirits because if he doesn't his head will be removed. CharacterDevelopment moves him away from this and by the time [[spoiler:Kanon is stabbed]] he's explicitly doing it because he's genuinely trying to do the right thing, but it's not clear when he really reached that point.
* {{Nosebleed}}: We never see him show enough interest in girls to have a ''real'' one, but he can do it ''on command''.
* NoSocialSkills: His vast experience of dating sims lets him play the suitor, but when it comes to befriending someone, he's at a loss. He's also incompetent when it comes to act like a concerned brother, though that's to be expected. As time goes on, his inability to read what people are really like leads to him getting more and more depressed since he doesn't know how to avoid hurting them.
* NotAMorningPerson: Either from playing not enough or too many games.
* NotDistractedByTheSexy: Keima barely seems to notice all the fanservice around him, and when he does, he's usually annoyed by it. He even provides the current trope image, too...
--> '''Keima:''' Don't worry about it. I was deep in thought at the time, so I have no memory of your naked body.
* NotHimself: Yui in Keima's body ''creeps people out'' - she's [[NiceGirl too nice]], which makes them suspicious or simply uneasy.
* NotSoDifferent: Kaori accuses Keima of using and manipulating [[spoiler:Tenri]] for his own goals, just like how she is countering with manipulating the young girl. [[spoiler:After thinking on it, Keima realizes she's right and he is.]]
* ObliviousToLove: Even with Elsie, Haqua, and Diana constantly "bothering" him, he doesn't seem to notice they are head over heels in love with him. Not to mention the arc heroines who are hopelessly smitten by him. For those he does know about, he still ignores them, making it difficult to tell where this starts and stops.
** This is getting quite complex as the story develops, because he's at least [[CharacterDevelopment becoming more involved with 'the real']] and thus starting at least to react a little more to the feelings of others, including wistfulness [[spoiler:that his capture targets don't remember him]].
* OminousMultipleScreens: To say that his Gaming Room is quite decked with these is an understatement.
* OrdinaryHighSchoolStudent: A completely normal {{otaku}} student who one day is forced to capture evil spirits inside the hearts of girls.
* PantyThief: He steals one of [[spoiler:Ayumi]]'s panties during her conquest in the Goddess Arc.
* PlayingCyrano: Played with when he tried to help Chihiro get together with the guy she liked at the time instead of trying to capture her himself. Unfortunately for Keima, she became interested in him instead.
* ProudToBeAGeek: He is obsessed with games and is very vocal about that fact.
* RealityEnsues: [[spoiler:As Keima notes and uses to his advantage, when an idol confesses to you in real life as opposed to games good things do not happen. Instead, your peers now hate you]].
* RealMenHateSugar: Keima has stated many times that he hates sweets, but if necessary for a capture will still eat them, as shown in Sumire's capture.
* RedBaron: Known to the game community as "Otoshi-gami"[=/=]"The Capturing God"[=/=]"The God of Conquest."
* RepetitiveName: His given name and surname have the same kanji as the first character.
* ResignedToTheCall: Keima had to be blackmailed into helping Hell, and even then Elsie has to constantly nag him to keep working for the first half of the story.
* RippleEffectProofMemory: He retains his memories every time [[spoiler:the ResetButton is pushed during the "Heart of Jupiter" arc, which is implied to be because he's carrying an orb]]. In chapter 267, he is also [[spoiler:the only one beside Elsie herself who clearly remembers that she wasn't his sister prior to Elsie's retconning of reality.]]
* SarcasticConfession: During the capture of Amami Tooru he confesses to having a deal with the demon Elsie where he kisses girls to save them from being eaten by demons. In context, this is something along the lines of him doing live action role-play.
* SecondYearProtagonist: The series began during his second year in high school.
* SelectiveObliviousness: Invokes this trope often. [[spoiler:More particularly when Chihiro confesses to Keima and he pretends not to hear it. Of course it helps that Ayumi was there]].
* SeriousBusiness: {{Dating Sim}}s.
* ShroudedInMyth: [[http://www.mangareader.net/120-6010-5/the-world-god-only-knows/chapter-51.html Chapter 51]] shows just how muddled his reputation is.
* ShutUpKiss: Performed on Chihiro during her capture.
* SingleTear: At the epilogue of the Goddess Search Arc, while [[spoiler:ruing the fact that [[BreakHisHeartToSaveHim he had to reject Chihiro]] -- his second to last capture of the arc, and his first and so far ''only'' aborted conquest]].
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses: He normally aces all his tests.
* SpeedEchoes: One of the applications of his DangerousForbiddenTechnique is to move his arms so fast it looks like many. In an omake, he takes it further and develops [[http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/the_world_god_only_knows/en/0/126/5/page/8 "Dancing God of Conquest Mode!!"]].
* SpitTake: When Elsie informs him that Yoshino Asami may already like him, he spits out his tea.
* TheSpock: After [[spoiler:Kanon is stabbed,]] the girls around him chastise him for not feeling anything, and approaching it like it's one of his games. However, it was shown that he knows just how serious it is, and that he's so determined to put things right, he's entirely focused on solving the problem and finding [[spoiler:another goddess to help her before she dies]].
* SpoiledBrat: He has 6 LCD [=TVs=], 6+ home videogame consoles, 10+ portable [=PFPs=], and a collection of gal games... in his own personal game library. And where does this all come from? Well, the "[[AllTakeAndNoGive M funds]]".
* StealthInsult: "Don't worry. I was deep in thought at the time... So I have absolutely no memory of your naked body." Needless to say, this doesn't exactly leave Haqua placated.
* SupremeChef: Not exactly a chef, but according to the later chapters, he can make coffee that's to die for. Justified, as his family ''does'' live in a house with a coffee shop.
* TearsOfRemorse: [[spoiler:Cries at the end of the Goddess Search Arc, feeling regret over how he had to break Chihiro's heart when she was quite possibly the ''very first real girl'' that he actually developed true romantic feelings for.]]
* TeenGenius: Can predict test questions, remember events in his life to minute intervals, and multitask with ease, as shown when he plays multiple games at once.
* TerribleArtist: A RunningGag since at least the beginning of Kusunoki's arc, much to Elsie's amusement and Keima's chagrin.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Delivers this to Kaori in [=FLAG 248=] [[spoiler:after having tricked her to reveal her "insurance policy" in case she gets tagged, and subsequently disposing of the same.]]
-->'''Keima:''' Kaori, you are making light of games. Its true that [[IRejectYourReality the real world is a shitty game.]] It's both unreasonable... and illogical... [[CheatersNeverProsper But a happy end will never come to those who want to finish a difficult game with ease...]]
* TsurimeEyes: His sharp eyes.
* TheUnsmile: When he has to try to capture Sumire, he decides to work part time at her dad's ramen shop. When he fakes a smile, Elsie tells him that his eyes are dead but otherwise he looks good!
* UnwantedHarem: Has [[{{Tsundere}} Haqua, Diana]], [[ShrinkingViolet Tenri]], [[ShipTease maybe]] [[TheDitz Elsea]] and [[spoiler:the Goddess hosts]] after him. The capture targets generally don't pursue him post capture, so they don't really count. In any case, it's ''really'' unwanted because all he wants to do is play his games.
* WhatBeautifulEyes: His eyes occasionally attract a good deal of attention. Amami Tooru finds them absolutely beautiful while others like Nagase Jun find them striking and powerful.
** Subverted on occasion. For example in FLAG 70, when he put on a cheerful and diligent persona for Sumire the ramen girl (see TheUnsmile above).
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: After finding out [[spoiler: Kaori]] is working with Vintage, he decides to conquer her. When Elsie shows surprise, [[LampshadeHanging he admits]] [[WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer it's not like he knows anything else to do]].
* WholesomeCrossdresser:
** As the God of Being Captured when dealing with Yui.
** Also, during the Heart of Jupiter arc, when [[spoiler:Vintage uses mind control to make all the girls lock the boys up]], he cross dresses in order to blend in.
* XanatosSpeedChess: A key tactic of Keima's, especially during the Goddess Capture arc where he pulls stunts like using [[spoiler:the bad publicity from Kanon's confession]] to his advantage and using it in his plans or [[spoiler:getting an overconfident Fiore to spill the beans about Vintage and let Vulcan know about the situation moments after assessing the situation with Haqua and Nora at her mercy]].
* YaoiFangirl: He 'slips' after he is affected by the female body he occupies during Yui's arc. In his 'will,' he even calls himself a Fujoshi, or rotten girl.
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: Keima did ''[[HeroicBSOD not]]'' [[TenMinuteRetirement take it well]] when [[spoiler:Kaori]] told him how they were NotSoDifferent.

[[folder:Elsea de Lute Irma]]
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Elsee.jpg

Also known as Elsie, Elsea is a low-level demon assigned as Keima's partner. Having served as a minor cleaning demon for most of her life, she's very inexperienced and lacking in confidence. She has a childish personality, is fantastic at cleaning and fixes food fit only for devils. She masquerades as Keima's little sister, but occasionally shows signs of having a crush on him. She literally idolizes Keima, often referring to him as "Kami-sama." She later becomes the left-handed bassist for Chihiro's band, the 2-B Pencils.

Over the course of the series, she has more or less graduated to being his real little sister. Apart from this, throughout the series she normally acts as a sort of plot device by using her robe.
----
* ADayInTheLimelight: Chapter 255. After being PutOnABus for the ''Goddess'' arc, and being mostly OutOfFocus throughout the ''Heart of Jupiter'' arc, she finally gets a chapter dedicated to ''her'' that expands on her background.
* AmnesiacHero: It is revealed [[spoiler:she is the ultimate Weiss that Vintage and Satyr have been trying to summon and that Dokuro transformed her into a Devil and erased her memories to protect her from them]].
* AngstWhatAngst[[invoked]]: Keima's surprised Elsie talks about losing her parents and growing up in a Hellish orphanage so casually. She explains it's because she was young and didn't really remember anything, plus she had lots of friends in the orphanage. [[spoiler:After regaining her true memories she calmly reveals to Keima that she is the weapon that Vintage and Satyr have been trying to summon]].
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: In all but blood. [[spoiler:In the penultimate chapter she becomes his blood sister by retconning reality with her wish.]]
* AntiAntiChrist: [[spoiler: The strongest Weiss, responsible for the destruction of millions over the years. But never by choice, or by intention.]]
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: She has an attention span of about 3 minutes. Becomes considerably shorter when she gets to see [[MundaneObjectAmazement fire engines]].
* BadLiar: Though her lies tend to be believed, they're also quite spotty and generally default to something like 'Nii-sama is weird because he plays lots of games.'
* BecomingTheMask: In the role of Keima's sister. At first she called him Kami-sama ("God"), then Kami-nii-sama ("God-brother"), and now it's just Nii-sama ("Brother"). She also calls his mother "mother". She enjoyed it so much that [[spoiler:she uses her power as the Ultimate Weiss to retcon reality so that she really is his sister.]]
* BigBadFriend: [[spoiler: Calls herself the "Final Boss.", and is the ultimate weapon that Vintage and Satyr have been plotting to revive. However, ultimately this is more an invoked term than anything.]]
* BigBrotherWorship: One of the more literal versions.
* BookDumb: Her English test score prior to Keima's tutoring is a miserable 18%. Afterwards... well, Ayumi, Chihiro and Kanon all get 100%, but Elsie only gets 45%, just managing to pass.
* BumblingSidekick: Keima has acknowledged that Elsie is basically completely useless as a partner.
* ButtMonkey: Elsie is only marginally competent and completely lacking in dignity, so if someone needs to be the butt of a joke, it's usually her.
* CantLiveWithoutYou: Elsie and Keima share collars/chokers that dictate that if one dies, the other will as well, no matter what they die from.
* TheChosenOne: [[spoiler:Along with Keima, Elsie is at the center of New Hell's plan to save the world]].
* CompulsorySchoolAge: She transfers into Keima's class because her apparent age matches his and she needs an excuse to stay around him all day.
* ConvenientlyUnverifiableCoverStory: Poses as the illegitimate daughter of Keima's father, Keiichi Katsuragi.
* CordonBleughChef: Elsea may not be a bad cook by the underworld's standards, but humans aren't used to eating so many tentacles and other questionable "foods".
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Most of the time, she is a loser who can't even handle a few humans. However, [[spoiler:when an agent of Vintage threatens her and Keima, Elsie manages to use her superior robe and some surprising ingenuity to defeat her]].
* CuddleBug: She's very glompy and affectionate. During Haqua's first appearance, Haqua tries to pretend like they're not friends and acts pretty condescending. Elsie, on the other hand, doesn't care and just starts cuddling immediately.
* TheCutie: She's sweet, affectionate and silly, much to the contrast of the gloomy and sarcastic Keima. When she first shows up his classmates are baffled as to how he could have such a cute sister.
* DecoyGetaway: Leaves a number of robe dolls disguised as Keima [[spoiler:to serve as decoys and distract Nora when she tries to kill them]].
* DetachedSleeves: Her normal outfit.
* TheDitz: And cursed with enough self-awareness to realize it.
* DudeWheresMyRespect: She currently has caught the most Runaway Spirits, yet her colleagues refuse to believe that a ditz like her could be so successful. Then again, Keima ''did'' do most of the work.
* EmbarrassingNickname: She is frequently referred to as the "Bug Demon" by Keima, in reference to how she is useless like a game full of bugs, and, like a stereotypical Demon, causes nothing but trouble.
* EmergencyImpersonation: [[spoiler:Keima gets her to impersonate Kanon after the latter is stabbed. That said, it doesn't fool Vintage as they leave her alone and kidnap the real Kanon]].
* EpicFail: She managed to set her notes ''on fire'' when studying for a test. When cooking she can demolish buildings. She also does that when cleaning if she's careless, but that one's a justified example since her broom is as powerful as a missile launcher.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Lets her hair down near the end of the series in [[spoiler:her new retconned reality]].
* FlyingBroomstick: She doesn't really ''need it'' to fly, but it does serve as her MagicWand of sorts.
* TheGlomp: Tries delivering these as a way of showing her affection, though her targets may dodge them.
* HairDecorations: Though this applies to all the New Devil spirit catchers. Doubles as a spirit sensor. She changes it for a headband with a happy face accessory [[spoiler:after her {{Retconjuration}}]].
* HappilyAdopted: Elsie accepts Mari's role as her ParentalSubstitute wholeheartedly, partly because of BecomingTheMask, and partly because she lost her birth parents at a young age.
* HeroWorshipper: She looks up to Keima, Haqua, and [[spoiler:Rimyuel]], her onee-sama. She knows they're not perfect, but admires them all the same.
%% HumanoidAbomination: Not an example. Please do not read.
* ImmortalImmaturity: She's 300 years old and still acts like she's 12.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: With Keima, though their relationship isn't without its ShipTease moments. [[spoiler:As of chapter 267, reality was retconned to make them actual siblings.]]
* LiteralMinded: When she tries to make a cake she puts it in a microwave-oven and cooks it by putting it over a fire instead of using its actual function.
* LittleBitBeastly: During a filler, she gets dressed this way as a bunny girl.
* LittleSisterHeroine: Invoked and subverted. Elsie moves into his house by pretending to be his little sister, but the galge-obsessed Keima refuses to acknowledge her. Why? Because she doesn't fit all the cliches and just acts like a normal little sister. The relationship is not without its ShipTease, but takes a distant place behind their primary relationship.
* LoveMartyr: She deeply loves her Kami-nii-sama and outright states she would prefer to die than having him killed, despite the daily abuse and complete lack of respect. As Keima matures emotionally, he starts to treat her better.
* MagneticGirlfriend: An invocation of sorts. Elsie's job requires needling Keima into making girls fall in love with him, but even when you put aside his new job there's still Tenri, Chihiro, Airi and Asami from the novels. Nanaka may count as well.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: Her job is to make Keima do a PG rated seduction, meaning he has to open up to others.
* MassivelyNumberedSiblings: Her parents were killed in the war, so she grew up in an orphanage with five hundred other devils. They all consider [[spoiler:Rumyiel]], the daughter of the orphan patron, their big sister. [[spoiler:This turns out to be a fake backstory made for her by Dokuro.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Elsie" has multiple meanings, mostly dealing with God, such as: "My God is a vow"; "God is my oath"; "God's promise"; "Oath of God"; "God is satisfaction"; "Consecrated to God"; etc. Additionally, you can pronounce the name as "NPC".
* MeaningfulRename: [[spoiler:After altering reality to become Keima's sister for real, her new name is Eri Katsuragi]].
* MonsterRoommate: She is a demon and lives with humans, the Katsuragi family.
* MundaneObjectAmazement: She's a three-hundred year-old demon from Hell and is absolutely obsessed with Fire Engines.
* NewMeat: Due to the sudden demand for Spirit Capturers, Elsea was newly assigned to her position without having undergone the usual rigorous training process. [[spoiler:Or rather, she was assigned to her position after being reincarnated into a demon by Dokurou.]]
* NewTransferStudent: She transfers into Keima's class at the beginning of the series.
* {{Otaku}}: Fangirls fire trucks to the point where she reads magazines about them and Kanon to the point that she's memorized Kanon's songs and choreography [[spoiler:which comes in useful when Kanon gets stabbed and Elsie has to impersonate her.]]
* OutOfFocus: As the plot goes on, she gets [[DemotedToExtra increasingly pushed into the background]]. She makes frequent complaints about this to Keima, saying that he treats her like an outcast and asking to be allowed to participate more, but Keima either responds that there is no choice or that she "doesn't have the stats for that".
* ParentalAbandonment: Both her parents died during the Almage Machina, and she was raised at a Lifecare Institute in Hell. [[spoiler: Or so it would seem. She never actually had parents in the first place.]]
* PlayboyBunny: During a filler chapter she gets dressed like one. The other cast members complain about how it's interrupting the story.
* PlotDevice: In spite of being the main heroine, Elsie doesn't move the plot much and experiences little CharacterDevelopment. Her main role is to [[TheWatson listen to Keima's scheming]] and provide him with [[SidekickExMachina tools created from her robe]].
* PrettyFreeloader: While she doesn't need to help out, thanks to her assumed role, she does help Mari with the house and cafe.
* PutOnABus: For a protagonist, she has been away for quite a good chunk of the story. For the record, she left after chapter 117. She didn't come back for 40 chapters and only returned for her buddy role at the next act another 50 chapters later.
* RapunzelHair: Stretches down past her waist.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Looks about seventeen, but is actually three centuries old. In truth, though, she's basically a high school graduate in devil terms.
* RelativelyFlimsyExcuse: Poses as Keima's illegitimate half-sister. Chief Dokurou even prepared a letter "explaining" how it came to be.
* {{Retconjuration}}: [[spoiler:She uses her power as the Ultimate Weiss to retcon reality, including her own existence. In this new reality, she's "Eri Katsuragi", Keima's blood sister and she never existed as a demon in the first place.]]
* ShooOutTheClowns: Tends to happen whenever Keima gets serious about a capture. [[spoiler:During the goddess search arc she's shooed away from even trying because she's replacing Kanon]].
* SidekickExMachina: Her role in Keima's strategies is essentially acting as a magic dispenser: "Elsie, could you do X with your [[GreenLanternRing robe]]?" "Yes, Kami-nii-sama!"
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: "Elsea" (as used in this Tv Tropes page) vs. "Elucia" (as per [[http://kaminomi.wikia.com/wiki/Elucia_de_Lute_Ima her Kaminomi Wikia page]]), nothwithstanding the fact that both sites eventually accept the nickname "Elsie"
** The series' character page on [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_The_World_God_Only_Knows_characters#Elsie Wikipedia]] made it a bit more confusing as her name is spelt as ''Elcea de Rux Ima'', but like the other two interpretations spells her nickname as is.
* TheSouthpaw: She is left-handed and plays a left-handed bass.
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: Rather than capture the Runaway Spirit [[spoiler:by filling the gap in Rieko's heart (a return to her youth), Keima has Elsie explain to the Spirit that Rieko is far too old to bear children, the mechanism by which it would have been reincarnated. Realizing that FailureIsTheOnlyOption, the Spirit surrenders]].
* TaremeEyes: Her round eyes.
* TimeStandsStill: What she is capable of doing, [[spoiler:as the Ultimate Weiss.]]
* TomatoInTheMirror: Her sudden disappearance is explained when Elsie reveals to Keima that [[spoiler:she is the ultimate Weiss that Vintage and Satyr have been trying to summon, reincarnated into a Devil by Dokuro so that it could escape being used as a weapon and learn about love and friendship. Unfortunately, she's only able to tell this to him in a MentalWorld conversation after having regained her memories by being summoned back into her original form.]]
* TrueFinalBoss: Refers to herself as such [[spoiler:after regaining her memories and being reverted back into her original form]].
* UnreliableExpositor: Quite a bit of what she tells Keima in the first chapter is... well, wrong at worst and only partially correct at best. There is a reason Keima directs most Hell-related questions to Haqua, even [[LampshadeHanging pointing out]] that he can't fully trust what Elsea tells him.
* UnskilledButStrong: She's pretty much useless without her Celestial Robe, and other devils make it clear that she's not really that great with it, either. This becomes most relevant in the Heart of Jupiter arc, when [[spoiler:they're stuck in the past, and all her magic and skills are ten years ahead of everyone else]]. Not only does she manage to [[spoiler:cleverly defeat a Vintage agent]], but the enemy apparently has no way of seeing through her invisibility, and she can even easily [[spoiler:dismantle Vintage's master spell]]. This is because [[spoiler: she is the Ultimate Weiss]]
* TheWatson: Unfortunately for her, Keima isn't the best at explaining.
* WholesomeCrossdresser: In one of the [[spoiler:illusory worlds Keima gets trapped in,]] Elsie is dressed in a boy's uniform because she is trying to [[spoiler:fill the gaps in boys' hearts inside of an all boys school. Unless it was an outright GenderFlip]].
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade A in her school uniform and her [=RSS=] outfit.

[[folder:Haqua du Lot Herminium]]
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Hakua.jpg
->Voiced by: SaoriHayami (JP), JessicaBoone (EN)

Haqua is a friend and former classmate of Elsea's and graduated at the top of their class, receiving the prestigious Scythe of Testament in recognition of her efforts. Having always excelled at everything she did, Haqua was quickly promoted to the position of District Chief of Area 32 in charge of capturing Runaway Spirits, but since her promotion she has had a terrible record. With the help of Elsea and Keima, Haqua wins back her confidence and in turn begins developing feelings towards Keima. Her human partner is Yukie.

Following this, apart from being used for {{Tsundere}} antics, Keima seems to view her as both a more reliable source of information and occasionally a more competent partner to work with. Haqua later becomes Keima's temporary partner during the ''Goddess arc'' due to Elsea being pushed aside at the time.
-----
* TheAce: Was the top of her class and managed to make the rank of district chief. Has proven very skilled in martial combat and is one of the few New Devils shown to cast spells independently of her Celestial Robe.
-->'''Vintage:''' How can you fly without a Celestial Robe!?\\
'''Haqua:''' It's a simple acceleration spell! You just have to stack it a couple dozen times!
* ActionGirl: She is one of the girls who fights in the story.
* ACupAngst: Oh how she's so conscious about her size...
* AmuletOfDependency: She's actually more effective if she's not using her celestial robe. It's easier, but easy isn't always better.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: It takes her a bit to get used to the idea that [[http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/the_world_god_only_knows/en/0/74/page/10 Goddesses can exist]]. Never mind that she's a demon, [[{{Reincarnation}} the entire system]] doesn't work without all three realms, and the fact that heaven and gods exist is common knowledge among demonkind. [[AlternativeCharacterInterpretation Of course, given the context of her apparent disbelief]], it is possible that she exaggerated it as an excuse to put pressure on Diana [[LoveTriangle as a way of getting revenge]]. She also claims not to believe in ghosts, though she clearly finds the 'haunted' theater spooky.
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: Challenges Keima to a game and accepts his terms that the loser has to do whatever the victor wants. After losing, Haqua [[{{Tsundere}} "pleads"]] with Keima to not make her do ''anything''. But Keima keeps asking her questions about Hell instead, prompting her to lash out.
* AscendedExtra: Haqua starts out as a mere recurring character, which was actually pretty rare at that point in the series. However, over time her prominence has actually grown to the point where she's the one Keima goes to when he needs to actually get things done properly.
* BadassAdorable: Her big moment in chapter 176 and the [[http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/the_world_god_only_knows/en/0/176/page/13 following scene]] leave no doubt that she's both badass and adorable.
* BadassBookworm: She's able to out-fly and outfight Vintage agents despite not having her hagoromo. While Vintage uses powerful spells and devices left over from Old Hell, she put the effort into knowing how demon magic actually ''works''.
* BadassCape: Wore one during her BigDamnHeroes moment, in place of her Celestial Robe.
* BigDamnHeroes: Chapter 175.
* BreakTheHaughty: [[spoiler:She is very prideful in her skills and lies that she caught 10 runaway spirits, but is ultimately forced to confess that she hasn't caught any spirits at all]].
* CatGirl: Not in canon, but she is one of the LittleBitBeastly variety during a filler.
* ClingyJealousGirl: She doesn't like watching other girls make moves on Keima, such as in episode 2 of season 3, when Yui gets way too close to him and wanting to get to know him better. Haqua ends up kicking him in the head as a result, which also inadvertently saved him as Keima was unable to think clearly due to his lack of experience with aggressive girls.
* CurbStompBattle: [[spoiler:Haqua fought against members of Vintage and the magic of Old Hell and beat them easily]].
* DeadpanSnarker: To Keima. Especially during her [[spoiler:tenure as Keima's partner]].
* DetachedSleeves: Part of her new outfit in FLAG 175.
* DressingAsTheEnemy: [[spoiler:Done twice. First time to create a [[DistressedDamsel damsel in distress scenario]] for [[DistressedDude Keima]] and [[KnightInShiningArmor Yui]]. Second time to escape the [[DirtyCop Public Safety Department]]]].
* DudeWheresMyRespect: Haqua is pretty annoyed when [[spoiler:Nora is the one credited with bringing down Vintage and exposing the Public Safety Department's corruption, thereby getting promoted to head district chief as a reward. Haqua's role isn't recognized at all and all she gets is her job back]].
* DynamicEntry: During the Goddess Candidate search arc, she suddenly appears kicking Keima in the head right after Yui openly confessed to him in the library.
* EtTuBrute: Haqua starts breaking down when she learns that [[spoiler:her boss and hero decided to fire her]] on Vintage's behalf. One can only imagine how upset she will be if she learns that [[spoiler:her dear friend Sharia was the one who sold her out in the first place]].
* TheFarmerAndTheViper: [[spoiler:When Keima confines Fiore, it goes too much against the rules for Haqua's taste, so she lets Fiore go. Fiore responds by stating that she would rather die than accept her pity and confines her in a jar instead. Haqua also spends the week assisting Keima to fight Vintage at the expense of her normal duties, but [[TheStoolPigeon one of her best friends, Sharia, notices and uses that to sell her out to Vintage]], getting her [[ElectricTorture tortured]], fired, and almost [[LaserGuidedAmnesia mind wiped]]. As Haqua summarizes to Dokuro, "Even if I believe I'm doing the right thing, nothing goes well at all."]]
* FlamingSword: Haqua has a spell that can produce this effect with her scythe.
* {{Frameup}}: [[spoiler:In order to install a Vintage agent in Haqua's position as a District Chief, the [[DirtyCop Public Safety Department]] spins her protests as treason]].
* GhostButler: Magically shuts a door to freak out Yui [[spoiler:while posing as an agent of Vintage]].
* HairTriggerTemper: Keima pisses her off fairly frequently on accident. It could just be Keima, though, since she doesn't seem to otherwise get angry that often.
* HardWorkHardlyWorks: An apparent aversion. In all the history of New Hell she is the first devil from a lower class family to achieve 1st place at her school. That honor is normally reserved for those from good families and shows just how hard she ''did'' work [[spoiler:and makes it doubtful that Fiore was really [[SecondPlaceIsForLosers as close to the top]] as she assumes]]. She shows herself to be much more competent than her peers when she gets the opportunity as well.
* ImmortalImmaturity: In an omake, she teases Elsie by way of a pun over and over while Keima watches from the sidelines reflecting that they're both centuries old.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: When first introduced she's rather smug and arrogant, though friendly to Elsie in a condescending way. In truth, her attitude is just covering up her insecurity at having failed to catch any Runaway Spirits yet. It gnaws at her so badly that a gap even opens in her heart briefly that the Runaway Spirit uses to partially control her. Unusually, it's actually Elsie who has to break through and help her.
* LieToTheBeholder: [[spoiler:While Elsie fills in for Kanon, Haqua fills in for Elsie, using an optical illusion that makes everyone but Keima see her as Elsie]].
* MsExposition: The main role she was created to fulfill was to provide a friend of Elsie's that can give reliable information [[UnreliableExpositor where Elsie cannot]].
* NinjaLog: [[spoiler:Switches herself with a dummy while preparing to attack Vintage agents from above]].
* NoSenseOfDirection: In the ''[[http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/the_world_god_only_knows/en/0/36/5/page/7 Haqua After 3]]'' 4-koma, she said she came straight to the Katsuragi household, but we see that she went through multiple houses beforehand.
* OutOfFocus: Towards the end of the manga. [[spoiler: She didn't even show up in the final chapter.]]
* PlayingWithFire: She is seen using fire magic to shroud her scythe in blue flames.
* RapunzelHair: All the way down to her waist.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: She's about three hundred years old, but her social standing and emotional maturity basically match her physical appearance: She seems to be the equivalent of a high school graduate with an important but low level position.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Mostly averted. [[{{Tsundere}} Just don't make her angry]].
* TheRestShallPass: [[spoiler:At the end of Ch184, she tells Keima and Chihiro to go on ahead while she faces off against Lune]].
* SelfMadeWoman: In spite of coming from a poor background, she was able to graduate as the number one student in her class and become a district chief, a type of demon official.
* SexyBacklessOutfit: Apparently part of her [[http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/3507/twgok13402rhs.jpg normal outfit]]. The hair just gets in the way.
* ShamefulStrip: [[spoiler:Happens when Vintage conducts ElectricTorture on her]].
* ShipTease: Oh yeah, sure, have her and Keima be partners for a week. [[SarcasmMode I'm sure she'll really be professional about it]].
* SinisterScythe: The Scythe of Testament was awarded to her for being the number one student in her class.
* SittingOnTheRoof: Does this after she walks in on Keima naked thanks to Yukie.
* SkilledButNaive: Her biggest character flaw. She is very book smart and was rivaled only by Fiore at the devil magic school. But when she started working in the field, she stumbled quite a bit at first. Later, when treachery became an issue, it got worse. [[spoiler: When Keima has Fiore imprisoned as a suspected member of Vintage, Haqua feels that this sort of interrogation is wrong and ends up releasing her. Fiore immediately takes the opportunity to start causing trouble. Later, Haqua feels the need to inform the proper authorities about Vintage's criminal activity, little realizing that Vintage has come dangerously close to BECOMING the proper authorities. The best Haqua's boss can do is [[BigBadFriend not turn her in]]. And for all her trouble, Haqua ends up being sold out anyways by [[TheMole one of her own friends]]]].
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:When she loses her robe and gains some confidence, she's far more effective than she was previously]].
* {{Tsundere}}: She's more the tsuntsun type and considering the scythe she's waving around it's better to steer way clear of her outbursts.
* TsurimeEyes: As expected from a violent {{Tsundere}}.
* TheWatson: She takes over for Elsie in the goddess capture arc. That said, she catches on to the fact that Keima doesn't really answer questions and instead settles on snarking about it.
* WideEyedIdealist: Has a great deal of pride in the peaceful, civilized world of New Hell. [[spoiler:Until recently, she was blissfully unaware just how strong of a hold the old ways have over New Hell. She even tries to give a group of Public Safety Officers a speech about how she is doing what is right and won't let them trample over her rights, even though she already suspects that they are agents of Vintage]].
* WistfulAmnesia: [[spoiler:Elsie makes adjustments to the timeline, making most of the characters remember her as having always been Keima's sister. Haqua is one of the few mentally affected characters to notice something is off.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Purple shading to blue.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade A. And she's got [[{{Tsundere}} the personality]] to match!

[[folder:Tenri Ayukawa]]
http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Tenri.jpg
->Voiced by: Creator/KaoriNazuka (JP)

Keima's childhood friend who has just recently moved back into town. She has a huge crush on Keima, but because she lacks passion she's content to simply watch him rather than continue pursuing him.

She later plays a role in the third memory fragment of the ''Heart of Jupiter'' arc where Keima pushes her into the spotlight to duel Kaori Yuuzaki as the number one female of Maijima East Elementary.
----
* BlindingBangs: In her first appearance her hair was so long it covered the top half of her face with her eyes only peeking out on occasion. After that, she got a hair cut.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: She has been in love with Keima since she was 7. Keima denies that they were friends in the first place, though. On the other hand (much like with Elsie after he used similar logic to attack her 'little sister' credentials), she ends up becoming one of his few ''actual'' friends.
* ColorFailure: She looks like she got [[http://manga.redhawkscans.com/reader/read/the_world_god_only_knows/en/0/64/page/8 petrified]]. The OVA adds a LuminescentBlush on top of this, resulting in what looks like an intensely blushing statue of Tenri.
* DisappearedDad: Tenri's father is not mentioned until FLAG 200 (10 years in the past).
* ExtremeDoormat: She is very quiet, and Keima describes her as having no desires, which annoys Diana in regards to winning Keima's heart, but also leaves her immune to possession by the Runaway Spirits. Keima exploits this in the Heart of Jupiter arc by [[spoiler:working to promote her to AlphaBitch so as to defeat Vintage's scheme to create high quality hosts]].
* ForgottenFirstMeeting: She used to be Keima's neighbor and classmate, but they were separated for a decade and he forgot about her.
* GirlNextDoor: She's quiet, kind and submissive without quite reaching doormat levels.
* HairDecorations: Has her hair tied into two braids and curved upwards supported by two large ribbons.
* HopelessSuitor: [[spoiler:Poor Tenri never had a chance to win Keima's heart because he was already meant to be with Chihiro and she knew it all along, but she still had a little hope that things could end up differently.]]
* LoveRevelationEpiphany: [[spoiler:While she was already interested in him, Kaori lying to Tenri about Keima being in love with her is pretty much what concludes with the development of Tenri's crush. Tenri is quite shocked when she realizes that Kaori tricked her.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Tenri" means "Rule of Heaven".
* NiceGirl: One of the nicest and sweetest girls in the cast. But thanks to [[{{Tsundere}} Diana]] taking over she still ends up hitting Keima frequently.
* PatientChildhoodLoveInterest: She's referred to as one, but Keima vehemently rejects the idea by listing all the actual requirements for the trope. On the other hand, she doesn't take the initiative in her relationship with Keima despite having loved him for so many years, being glad with just being his friend and is a GirlNextDoor living close to him. [[spoiler:Justified because she needed to maintain a StableTimeLoop and wait until after his time travel adventure and she already knew they wouldn't end up together]].
* PostKissCatatonia: After Keima kisses her in order to trick Nora, she faints.
* PowersViaPossession: As Diana's host. Before the confirmation that Diana is indeed a goddess as she claims, Keima theorized she could just be an abnormal Weiss trying to fool him.
* TheQuietOne: Tenri says little. Most of the time Diana has to do the talking for her.
* SailorFuku: Her school uniform.
* SecretSecretKeeper: After Keima encounters her when they were in Elementary school and [[spoiler:in order to stop Vintage, Older Keima must bring her in on the whole scheme]]. This was easy as Tenri had taken interest in Keima as they were both loners of sorts and so paid attention to what he did, but she was afraid of his cold personality. [[spoiler:When Older Keima planned on returning to the future, it is revealed Tenri's memories were never erased and had known about the whole basic plot since her introduction in chapter 57]].
* ShrinkingViolet: She's very shy and quiet.
* StageMagician: Tenri's hobby. She's particularly fond of the DisappearingBox. Diana is [[MundaneObjectAmazement oddly fascinated by her tricks despite knowing powerful enough magic to split seas]].
* TaremeEyes: Her round eyes contrast Diana's TsurimeEyes.
* TarotMotifs: Tenri is the joker presumably because she's: A. not registered to Keima; B. did not have a Runaway Spirit but rather a goddess; and C. has overall different significance to the story than the other capture targets and Keima.
* WillingChanneler: Unlike the other hosts, Tenri invited Diana into herself, in order to save Keima and herself from the Weiss.
