!!Characters from the comic series ''ComicBook/TheWalkingDead'':

[[folder: Grimes Family]]
!!Rick Grimes
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 1

Rick is the main character of the comic. A small town cop, he awakens in the hospital after being shot and put in a coma, and finds himself one month into the zombie apocalypse. Setting out to find his family, Rick eventually becomes a leader who desperately tries to retain what little humanity he has left while protecting his loved ones and guiding others through the dangers of a post-apocalyptic world in which the walking dead are not the biggest threat.
* ActionDad: [[JustifiedTrope He is a cop, after all]].
* AnArmAndALeg: His right hand as a Type III, courtesy of The Governor.
* AnAxeToGrind: His go to melee weapon is a small hatchet.
* AntiHero: Evolves into a Type IV.
* ArtificialLimb: Gets a metal claw prosthetic for his right arm after the TimeSkip.
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: Which is acknowledged by several people InUniverse, pointing out he would have to be badass and a charismatic leader in order to command people like Abraham and Michonne.
* {{Badass}}
** BadassBeard: At various points throughout the comic, due to a lack of opportunity to shave. Grows out a large groomed beard during the TimeSkip between Issue 126 and 127.
** HandicappedBadass: Even without his right hand, Rick has no trouble taking down zombies or humans.
** HeartbrokenBadass: [[spoiler: After Lori's death.]]
* BashBrothers: With Tyreese, although their relationship became very tense and never fully recovered after Carol's suicide attempt, which Rick blamed on Tyreese.
* BattleCouple: [[spoiler: Downplayed with Andrea.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Most of the time he is a friendly guy and great leader, but if he gets pissed off or considers somebody a threat to the group, he will not hesitate to put a bullet in their head.
* BigGood: By Issue 127, he has finally reached this status, fully embracing his status as leader of Alexandria and leading a coalition of united communities that are attempting to rebuild civilization.
* CartwrightCurse: Assumes he has this by Issue 91 after [[spoiler:the deaths of Lori and Jessie]], which is why he is hesitant to get into a relationship with [[spoiler:Andrea]], not wanting to lose someone else because they were close to him.
* CoolHat: His sheriff hat, before he gave it to Carl.
* TheChainsOfCommanding: He struggled for a long time with what exactly it meant to be a leader and its consequences, but has come to accept the burdens and responsibilities.
* CrazySane: Talking to [[spoiler:a dead Lori]] on a unplugged phone is one of the ways he tries to stay sane. It's debatable if it works or if it is just making him crazier. He finally gets rid of the phone in ''All Out War''.
* CrusadingWidower: [[spoiler: After Lori dies.]]
* {{Determinator}}: No matter how bad a situation gets, Rick never gives up trying to get his group through it.
* EmptyShell: He fears he has become this by Issue 90. Andrea manages to convince him to not become one.
* FairCop
* TheFettered / TheUnfettered: Has wavered between the two for a while, and spent a long time being Unfettered after the loss of the prison. At the end of the war with the Saviors he becomes the Fettered again, deciding that if society is ever going to be rebuilt it needs rules and a code of justice that doesn't stoop to the level of people like Negan.
* FightingTheLancer: He gets into a fistfight with Tyreese after discovering that he had cheated on Carol with Michonne, with all of the pressures on both characters erupting and causing them to beat the crap out of each other until neither could stand. This leads to the two of them not talking to each other outside of group discussions for many issues, although they eventually make up.
* FiringOneHanded: Forced to shoot this way due to the loss of his right hand.
* GoodIsNotNice
* HearingVoices: [[spoiler: He hears Lori's voice in a telephone after she dies in the prison assault.]]
* HeWhoFightsMonsters
* HeroProtagonist
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Several times:
** Killing [[spoiler:Dexter]] to stop him from kicking the group out of the prison.
** Killing [[spoiler:Martinez]] to stop him from reporting back to the Governor.
** Slaughtering [[spoiler:the Hunters]] to prevent them from continuing to follow and attack the group.
** Leaving [[spoiler:Jessie and Ron]] to die. This is the only one he expresses some regret over, although both of them were already surrounded and being devoured by zombies.
* InvulnerableKnuckles: Oh so averted. Rick [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown bashes]] Thomas Richards in the face so badly after it was discovered he [[spoiler:killed Hershel's twin daughters]] that he breaks every bone in his right hand, rendering it useless. Leading to...
* {{Irony}}: That same hand is severed by the Governor, after Dale tells him it's useless.
* KnightInSourArmor: After the fall of the prison. He seems to be recovering some after the [[spoiler:zombie herd that attacked Alexandria was defeated]] and the group came into contact with the Hilltop Colony.
* TheLeader: Started out as a type IV, but has been slowly turning into an ill-tempered type III.
* ManBitesMan: At one point he [[spoiler:rips out a bandit's throat with his teeth]].
* NervesOfSteel: Develops them over the course of the comic.
* PapaWolf: Anytime Carl is put into danger is when Rick is at his most dangerous.
* PlotArmor: So far Rick really seems to have better luck staying alive than anyone else around him.
* PragmaticHero
* SecondLove: [[spoiler: For Andrea.]]
* TheSheriff: In his pre-apocalypse life and eventually post as well once the survivors reach the Alexandria Safe Zone.
* SurvivorsGuilt: After the Prison arc.
* SleptThroughTheApocalypse: He was in a coma in hospital after being shot, and only woke up after the first month of the ZombieApocalypse.
* TheSoCalledCoward: Has taken up this role as of issue 102, [[spoiler:pretending to give in to Negan's demands, but actually planning something in secret.]]
* VillainProtagonist: Rick is acutely aware that he is becoming this, and doesn't like it one bit. Ultimately avoids it by becoming TheFettered at the end of the war with the Saviors.

!!Lori Grimes
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 2

Lori is Rick's wife. She slept with his best friend Shane shortly after the apocalypse began when she thought Rick was dead. Her relationship with Rick is strained by this and other factors. She gives birth to their daughter Judith at the prison. [[spoiler:Dies with Judith when the Governor assaults the prison.]]
* AloofDarkHairedGirl
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: Dies in Issue 48 at the conclusion of Volume 8: "Made to Suffer", being shot by Lily on The Governor's orders as she flees the prison with Judith.]]
* TheChick
* TheLostLenore: [[spoiler: For Rick.]]
* NeutralFemale
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: If she hadn't been so quick to accuse and lock up Dexter, a lot of unpleasantness could've been avoided.
* RavenHairIvorySkin: Has dark black hair and is very pale. Several characters are attracted to her, and Shane becomes rather obsessive.
* SacrificialLion: [[spoiler: Her death is the ultimate reminder (in case you haven't gotten the hint already) that AnyoneCanDie, and it also plays a major part in Rick's CharacterDevelopment]].
* SpitefulSpit: Onto Shane's grave after they buried him.
* YourCheatingHeart: She slept with Shane once on the road to Atlanta, and regretted it.
* WhamLine: At the end of Issue 7:
-->'''Rick:''' Lori? Lori, is everything okay?
-->'''Lori:''' No, Rick. '''I'm pregnant.'''

!!Carl Grimes
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 2

Carl is Rick and Lori's son, who is slowly becoming darker, more dangerous, and less childlike as the series goes on. He lost his right eye in Issue 83 to a stray bullet.
* AntiHero: Type III.
* {{Badass}}: Has extremely good aim.
** HandicappedBadass: He is still a good shot after losing an eye.
* {{Bookworm}}: He rarely read before the ZombieApocalypse, but now that there is much less to do, he has found that he enjoys reading.
* CatapultNightmare: When he dreams about [[spoiler:executing Ben]], which he has no memory of after getting shot in the head.
* ChildrenForcedToKill: He has had to kill other humans multiple times, and has threatened others a few times. The first was shooting [[spoiler:Shane in defense of his father]] and then [[spoiler:Ben in a VigilanteExecution]].
** As of Issue 101, he is willing to hold people he knows well at gunpoint to make them back off from his father during an argument, although he later claims that he would not have shot them.
** During the war against the Saviors, he killed several of Negan's men.
* CoolShades: Starts wearing a pair after the TimeSkip, with the glass on the right side of them taken out and the right side covering his missing eye.
* CreepyChild: Especially after his EyeScream.
* {{Deuteragonist}}
* EyeScream: He is accidently shot is the right eye by Douglas Monroe when the Alexandria Safe-Zone is breached by zombies, creating a giant hole in his head. Dr.Denise Cloyd manages to save him, but he loses part of his memory and his personality becomes even darker.
** EyePatchOfPower: Or bandage in his case. Negan eventually takes it away from him, saying he looks more badass without it. He eventually covers it with his hair worn longer on that side and with darkened sunglasses. Terrifyingly, the effect makes him look, with his post-TimeSkip hairstyle and gun, not unlike [[NotSoDifferent the Governor's Volume 8 appearance]].
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Killing [[spoiler:Ben]]. Unlike most of Rick's IDWIHTD moments, this is shown to torment him afterwards.
* MoralityChain: He was pretty much the only thing keeping Rick from becoming a complete VillainProtagonist for a long time. Now it is the other way around.
* NearRapeExperience: By a bandit on the highway while he, Rick, and Abraham were travelling to Cynthiana for supplies. Luckily Rick and Abraham were able to kill the bandits before it happened.
* NiceHat
* PuppyLove: With Sophia, until she began to dislike him due to his increasingly jerkass nature.
* TisOnlyABulletInTheBrain: A realistic version in Issue 83. He loses his eye and part of his head, suffering some brain damage. It is down to luck, rather than his {{badass}} nature, that he survives it with the help of Dr. Cloyde. Also, due to the brain damage, he develops a very different personality, and has memory loss.
* TookALevelInBadass: Several over the course of the series...
* TookALevelInJerkass: ...along with several levels in being a {{Jerkass}}.
* TroublingUnchildlikeBehavior: You know, like [[spoiler:''executions'']].
* TwoFaced: The right side of his face took a lot of damage from the bullet that destroyed his eye.
* VillainTakesAnInterest: Negan is fascinated by Carl, and when first meeting him says he could not kill him because he has to know how Carl will turn out in the future.

!!Judith Grimes
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 39

Judith is Rick [[spoiler:actually Shane's]] and Lori's infant daughter born at the prison. [[spoiler:Killed with Lori when the prison is attacked by the Governor.]]
* InfantImmortality: [[spoiler: ''Very'' averted.]]
* LudicrousGibs: [[spoiler: Infant plus shotgun equals...]]
* WhosYourDaddy: WordOfGod says [[spoiler: Shane.]]

[[folder: Atlanta Camp Survivors]]
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 2

Glenn is the first survivor encountered by Rick, and his closest friend in the post-apocalyptic world. He led Rick back to his camp which reunited him with his family, and has served as a scout and scavenger for the group at every safe-haven they find. While staying on Hershel's farm, he fell in love with Maggie Greene and eventually married her, with both of them adopting Sophia after [[spoiler:Carol's suicide]]. [[spoiler:He is murdered by Negan in the 100th issue of the series.]]
* ActionSurvivor: He prefers to use stealth and avoid zombies, but is more than capable of taking them down if he needs to.
* BaldOfAwesome: Temporarily, after Maggie shaves his head at the prison. The hair grows back by the time the group comes together after the end of the prison arc, eventually growing back to its normal length.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Was heavily in debt when the outbreak happened, and would have done anything to escape it. That problem doesn't seem so bad any more, though.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler: '''''Dear God''''': he is hit repeatedly in the head by a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire as he tries to call out to Maggie as she, his adopted daughter, and his friends are forced to watch him die. The first hit knocks his left eye out of socket, and by the end, there is almost nothing left of his head.]]
* DeadpanSnarker
* DeathByPragmatism: [[spoiler: His decision to move with Maggie and Sophia to Hilltop since it had better walls and more defenders ends up getting him killed when Negan captures them, Rick, Carl, Michonne, and Heath and choses to make an example of Glenn.]]
* FragileSpeedster: He's quick, but not much use in a fistfight.
* HappilyMarried: To Maggie.
* TheHeart
* LeParkour
* NiceHat
* NiceGuy
* TheReliableOne
* TheScrounger: He is the groups go-to guy for searching for supplies due to him being fast and smart. When the group reaches the Alexandria Safe-Zone, this becomes his official job for the town.
* TheSmartGuy
* TheSneakyGuy

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 2

Andrea is a former law clerk turned ZombieApocalypse {{Badass}}. She found safety with her sister Amy at the camp outside of Atlanta, but was forced to shoot Amy in the head after she was killed in zombie attack. Despite having never fired a gun before Rick and Shane's training, she quickly became the best shot in the group and the designated sharpshooter/lookout. She entered into a relationship with Dale and took care of twins Ben and Billy after [[spoiler:their parents died.]] Her new family quickly fell apart on the road to Washington D.C., with [[spoiler:Ben murdering Billy and Carl secretly killing Ben to protect the group, and Dale dying of a zombie bite plus cannibal attack.]] In the Alexandria Safe-Zone, Andrea has established herself as Rick's most trusted advisor and now [[spoiler:lover]].
* ActionGirl: Nobody else in the group can match her skill with a gun. She's at a bit of a physical disadvantage against male human survivors in one-on-one physical combat, though she can win those fights if she is crafty enough.
* AntiHero: Type III.
* {{Badass}}: Quite easily one of the best fighters in the group, and acknowledged InUniverse as the best shot among them.
* BattleCouple: [[spoiler: Downplayed with Rick.]]
* TheBigGirl: Shares the role with Michonne, although their skill sets are radically different and useful in different situations.
* BreakTheCutie
* BrokenBird
* DeadpanSnarker
* EveryoneLovesBlondes
* FriendlySniper: Once she learned how to shoot, she became ''extremely'' good at it. Rick often has her hidden in a sniper perch as the "ace in the hole" to protect the group. To those she cares about, she's one of the nicest characters in the book. But if someone is trying to ''hurt'' those she cares about and she has them in her sights, they're as good as dead.
* TheLancer: To Rick after the group arrives at Alexandria.
* MayDecemberRomance: With Dale. She was in her early 20's, he was in his mid-60's.
* PragmaticHero
* RelationshipUpgrade: [[spoiler:With Rick,]] from friends to lovers. He's initially reticent about the idea, but Andrea believes they're the two most suited to be together and convinces him that given their histories, they deserve to take the opportunity to be happy.
* ScarsAreForever: Gets the lower part of her left ear cut off, and the cut also extends down the side of her jaw toward her mouth. It healed up nice but is still noticeable. She also has a long scar on her left temple where a bullet grazed her during the prison raid.
* SecondLove: [[spoiler: For Rick.]]
* SheWhoFightsMonsters
* StakingTheLovedOne: Shoots [[spoiler:her sister Amy]] in the head after she is killed by a zombie to ensure she doesn't come back.
* SurvivorGuilt: [[spoiler:Because she never told Dale that she had truly fallen in love with him.]]
* TomboyishPonytail
* TragicKeepsake: Keeps [[spoiler:Dale's hat]] after his death.
* YouthfulFreckles

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 3

Dale is an elderly survivor whose RV serves as the groups main transportation. He lost his wife early in the apocalypse began and started a relationship with Andrea shortly after [[spoiler:Amy died]], and the two of them adopt [[spoiler:Ben and Billy after their parents died]]. [[spoiler:Lost a leg at the prison.]] As the series goes on, he becomes increasingly frustrated with Rick's leadership and their friendship becomes strained, [[spoiler:although he makes up with Rick before dying of a zombie bite.]]
* AnAxeToGrind: Uses a fire axe a few times, notably in the first arc where he decapitates a zombie that was sneaking up on Donna.
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler:Loses both legs before he dies.]]
* {{Badass}}
** BadassBeard
** BadassDriver
** BadassGrandpa
* BerserkButton: He has a few, and if one is pressed hard enough, he will fly into an extremely angry rage.
* CapturedByCannibals: [[spoiler: Which he found hilarious, since a zombie had bitten him and they ate his leg before they found out.]]
* CoolOldGuy
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Delivers a metric ton of it in the prison arc, first by telling Rick the he'll never be able to use his right hand again after Rick beat Thomas half to death (just before the Governor severs it) and ponders aloud if there were another, larger, more organized group living out of a Wal-Mart or something that would want their prison and supplies.
* GrumpyOldMan: Gradually leans into this after the prison arc, especially towards Rick.
* LifeOrLimbDecision: [[spoiler: The only one in the series that takes.]]
* MayDecemberRomance: With Andrea.
* NiceHat
* TeamDad
* ZombieInfectee: [[spoiler: After being bitten on the leg when out getting gas from cars around the prison with Billy Greene, though, unlike Allen, his leg being chopped off helps. However, he later gets bitten again, only this time on the shoulder, which makes amputation impossible. Rather than burden the group with having to put him down, he leaves camp in the middle of the night to go off and die, but is captured by the Hunters. He amuses himself by declaring he is "tainted meat" after revealing to them that he was infected after they had already eaten part of his leg.]]

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 3

Carol is the mother of Sophia and an attractive young widow. She was in a relationship with Tyreese until he cheated on her, and best friends with Lori. [[spoiler:Committed suicide by zombie after slowly going insane.]]

* {{Bookworm}}: She loves reading, and is overjoyed by the library at the prison.
* BreakTheCutie

* EveryoneLovesBlondes
* MarryThemAll: [[spoiler:Asks Lori if she can do it with her and Rick. Lori's not having it.]]

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 2

The young daughter of Carol, and currently tied with Andrea as the longest-lasting female character in the comics overall.
* BreakTheCutie
* DemotedToExtra: She was never the most major character, but ever since [[spoiler: her move to the Hilltop]] it's a genuine surprise when she actually shows up.
** Though it seems like she'll be having a more important role as of Issue 131.
* PuppyLove: With Carl.
* PutOnABus: [[spoiler:Moves to the Hilltop Colony with Maggie]].
** TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler:Like Maggie, she's getting some focus again in recent issues]].
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:After her mother dies. She starts to claim that Glenn and Maggie are her parents, although she later admits she is only pretending because it helps her deal with the situation.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: After the time skip she's reintroduced as an older, much tougher tomboy who kicks the crap out of two bullies in the Hilltop.
* YouthfulFreckles

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 1

Shane was Rick's police partner, and escorted Lori and Carl down to Atlanta when the ZombieApocalypse began. He fell in love with Lori and slept with her once, and became the leader of a group of survivors outside of Atlanta. He was overjoyed when Rick showed up, but quickly grew jealous of him and Lori. [[spoiler:After slowly [[SanitySlippage going]] [[LoveMakesYouCrazy crazy]], he tried to kill Rick, only to be shot by Carl.]]
* [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie And Then Shane Was A Zombie]]: [[spoiler: Reanimates after being buried. Rick digs him out to confirm if all the dead become zombies.]]
* {{Badass}}
* ComfortingTheWidow: What he tried to do with Lori. They slept together once on the road to Atlanta, which Lori considered a mistake and never let happen it happen again.
* CrazySurvivalist
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: Due to his SanitySlippage in Issue 6.]]
* {{Jerkass}}
* LanternJawOfJustice[=/=]HeroicBuild: Shane looks like a superhero with stubble. A sharp contrast to the more thinly-built Rick. [[spoiler:Ultimately subverted after his FaceHeelTurn.]]
* LoveMakesYouEvil: [[spoiler: By Issue 6, where he tries to kill Rick due to his jealousy and lust over Lori.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After hitting Rick in the face in full view of camp, causing everyone to react in horror. [[spoiler:This leads to the final stage of his...]]
** [[spoiler:SanitySlippage: A very sudden example throughout Issue 6, eventually leading him to threaten Rick.]]
* TheStarscream
* TallDarkAndSnarky
* WeHardlyKnewYe: [[spoiler: Carl shoots him when he threatens Rick]] in Issue 6.
* WeJustNeedToWaitForRescue: He insists on the group staying outside of Atlanta, even though zombies are always coming closer to the camp and supplies are running out as it becomes winter because he is convinced the military will arrive any day to save them.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 2

The husband of Donna and father of Ben and Billy. He was a shoe salesman before the ZombieApocalypse, running a small store at a mall in Gainsville. He has a major HeroicBSOD after [[spoiler:Donna dies]]. During the prison arc, [[spoiler:he is bitten on the leg by a walker. Rick amputates the limb to save his life, but this causes him to die of blood loss]].
* ActionSurvivor
* BigNo: When he sees [[spoiler:Donna being eaten by zombies]].

* HappilyMarried
* LifeOrLimbDecision: Subverted; [[spoiler:he loses both]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Shooting at [[spoiler:one of the zombies devouring his wife]], while understandable, brought all of the zombies in Wilshire Estates out of the homes and made them converge on the survivors. This made it impossible for them to grab the food and other supplies in the house they had secured, since they had to rush to escape.
* NonActionGuy: And he is not very successful when he tries not to be.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Unsurprisingly after [[spoiler:Donna is killed]]. It caught a lot of readers off guard when he even became the first person to use the c word in the series, as mentioned above.
* {{Wangst}}: InUniverse, this is how Dale and Andrea view his breakdown over [[spoiler:Donna]] since they've both been through the same thing ([[spoiler:having loved ones killed in front off them]]) and he's got two kids to take care of.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 3

Donna is the wife of Allen and the mother of Ben and Billy. She is religious and slightly snotty, but warms up to the rest of the group eventually. [[spoiler:She is eaten by a zombie at the Wiltshire Estates.]]
* DefrostingIceQueen: She spends most of the first arc bitching at other characters or complaining about things. She becomes nicer and less judgmental in the second arc. Allen even [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] the trope.
-->'''Allen:''' The ice queen melteth.
-->'''Donna:''' Oh, hush.
* EatenAlive: [[spoiler: She is quickly swarmed and devoured by zombies.]]
* HappilyMarried: Despite her issues with the other members of the group, her and Allen are always shown getting along fine.
* TheFundamentalist: To a slight degree. She is very judgmental about Andrea and Amy living with Dale in his RV, although she is completely wrong about the situation. She starts to ease up in the second arc.
* StrawFeminist: In the first arc, she complains about the men being the ones who go hunting while the women stay at the camp to do things like laundry. She even says she wonders if they will still be allowed to vote when things get back to normal. Lori tells her that she is being ridiculous, and that it makes sense for them to be doing laundry since none of them know how to shoot.
* TooDumbToLive: [[spoiler: She doesn't pay attention while searching the houses of Wiltshire Estates, never noticing a zombie coming right out of a nearby house until it began chewing on her face.]]

!!Ben and Billy
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 2

Ben and Billy are the twin sons of Allen and Donna.
* BoomHeadshot: [[spoiler:Carl executes Ben this way to prevent any more murders.]]

* ThePeepingTom: Used to spy on Abraham and Rosita when they had sex. Subverted in that they knew and found it amusing. He later expresses guilt and shame to Abraham about it, saying that he was just lonely and going crazy while they were on the road.
* PermaStubble
* TheSmartGuy: ''Very smart''. He has knowledge on dozens of topics, and even managed to figure out a way to manufacture bullets. As of Volume 22 he's become so vital to the group's survival that Rick actually forbids him from going on more supply runs as he's too valuable to lose.
* TookALevelInBadass: During the ''No Way Out'' arc, he takes down several walkers. After this he starts exercising more to get in better shape and becomes dedicated to finding ways to increase the safety of the Safe-Zone. Culminates with his first human kill in ''All Out War'', when he shoves a Savior off a building.

!!Rosita Espinosa
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 53

Rosita is Abraham's girlfriend. Before meeting him, she often had sex with other survivors in order to get protection, and was surprised when Abraham refused her initial advances but protected her anyway. She breaks up with him after figuring out he is cheating on her with Holly.
* ActionSurvivor: She manages to take down several zombies when the Alexandria Safe-Zone is attacked.

* TheChick
* FlatCharacter: Doesn't have much of a personality.
* GirlishPigtails

[[folder:Alexandria Safe-Zone Survivors]]

A community of survivors built around a emergency government facility with a isolated power grid that was to be used in case of a major disaster. Founded by Alexander Davidson, a security liaison at the White House, and his friend Congressman Douglas Monroe, the Safe-Zone survivors quickly put up a wall around the area using materials from a nearby construction site, with the wall being expanded periodically as the community grew larger. Leadership of the community was given to Rick Grimes by Douglas a few weeks after he arrived, and under his leadership, Alexandria has become part of a network of communities seeking to rebuild civilization.

!!Douglas Monroe
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 70

Douglas was a Democratic Ohio U.S. Congressman before the ZombieApocalypse. He is married to Regina and the father of Spencer. He founded the Alexandria Safe-Zone with his friend Alexander Davidson, but forced him to leave after learning he was sexually exploiting female survivors. Douglas viewed Rick's group as the towns greatest chance of survival due to their experience surviving in the outside world.
* ActionSurvivor
* BadassGrandpa: He survived for several months out in the open with his friends and family before the Safe-Zone was established, and killed two hostile human survivors during that time.
* [[BaldBlackLeaderGuy Bald White Leader Guy:]] Well, two out of three ain't bad.
* BerserkButton: '''''Do not''''' mention Davidson. This will cause Douglas to fly into a rage.
* BigGood: Of the Safe-Zone, [[spoiler: until he gives up his role as leader to Rick and eventually dies]].
* CelebritySurvivor: He was a congressman before the outbreak.
* DirtyOldMan: It's noted that he assigns all the pretty girls jobs where he'll see them every day.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler: After zombies breach the Safe-Zone walls, he almost shoots himself in the head, but can't bring himself to do it. He then goes outside his house to be eaten by the zombies...]]
** EatenAlive: [[spoiler: ...and that attempt succeeds after he tries to help Rick and Carl.]]
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Exiling his friend Davidson from the Safe-Zone after learning how he was exploiting the women in the Safe-Zone.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: Douglas, we know you were only trying to help, but you only succeeded in [[spoiler:bringing more zombies into the area, shooting Carl in the head and getting eaten.]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler: After Regina is murdered, and even more severely once the herd attacks the Safe-Zone.]]
* SexlessMarriage
* YourCheatingHeart: He has cheated on his wife before, and tells Andrea that their marriage was purely political and loveless. [[spoiler:After her death, he wonders if things could have been different had he been more faithful.]]

!!Regina Monroe
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 70

Regina is Douglas' wife and Spencer's mother. She is initially hostile to the Rick's group when they arrive. [[spoiler:She is later murdered by Pete Anderson.]]
* BitchAlert: Her first scene is marching straight past Rick and his group without acknowledging them, and then demanding that Douglas tell her everything about them while insulting their appearance and dismissing their need for them.
* MauveShirt: [[spoiler: Gets a small amount of development before dying]].
* SexlessMarriage
* SlashedThroat: [[spoiler: How Pete kills her]].
* TooDumbToLive: [[spoiler: Walking up to an obviously disturbed man holding a knife and asking what the hell is wrong with him is not a very smart idea.]]

!!Spencer Monroe
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 72

Spencer is Douglas and Regina's son. He and Andrea held a mutural interest in each other after she arrived at the Safe-Zone, but she broke it off with him after he advocated [[spoiler:abandoning the others in the Safe-Zone when walkers overran it]]. He often acts as a gatekeeper for the community. [[spoiler:Then he tried to make a deal with Negan to kill Rick and put him in charge, for which Negan murders him in disgust.]]
* DirtyCoward: He suggests to Andrea that the two of them [[spoiler: abandon the Safe Zone when it is attacked by walkers]]. Later on, [[spoiler: he tries to get Negan to do his dirty work and kill Rick for him. Negan does not approve and murders him in response]].
* EasilyForgiven: For being part of Nicholas' conspiracy, but not by Andrea for wanting to [[spoiler:abandon the Safe-Zone during the zombie attack.]] They later make up after he tells her he is happy for her after she starts a relationship with [[spoiler:Rick]].
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Like Douglas, Spencer can come off pretty creepy and overly aggressive when talking with women.
* GuttedLikeAFish: [[spoiler: By Negan.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: He seems to have become somewhat of a better person, even saying that he is happy for Andrea and Rick rather than try and hit on her again. However, [[spoiler: his last action on earth is to try and convince Negan to kill Rick because he is too much of a coward to do it himself]].
* MistakenForGay: Several of the women in the Safe-Zone thought he was gay, and were surprised by his interest in Andrea.
* NonActionGuy: Although he has taken out several walkers, he is very averse to actually going out and fighting them, prefering to remain inside the Safe-Zone's walls.
* TheResenter: Towards Rick.
** TheStarscream: [[spoiler: He even tries to convince Negan to kill Rick so he can lead Alexandria in his place. [[EvenEvilHasStandards Negan does not approve.]]]]
* StalkerWithACrush: To Andrea. The attraction was mutual at first, but after he advocated [[spoiler:leaving the rest of the Safe-Zone to die when zombies breached it]] she has wanted nothing to do with him. Spencer kept trying to talk to her to convince her otherwise, even waiting outside of her house for hours one time, although he eventually backs off.
* TraumaCongaLine: [[spoiler:The rapid loss of his parents.]]
* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: [[spoiler: By Negan]]

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 69

->''"We were a naive, sheltered bunch of weaklings... most of us at least. Just waiting to get killed inside these walls. We had no idea how unsafe we were. That's why Douglas put Rick in charge-- and that's why I'm '''glad''' that we're taking steps to make this place safer-- things we '''never''' would have thought to do."''

Heath is a scavenger for the Safe-Zone. He was initially mistrustful of Rick, but quickly became loyal to him after his experience saved the Safe-Zone and made it safer. He is in a relationship with Doctor Denise Cloyd.
* AnArmAndALeg: [[spoiler: Most of his left leg is blown off by a grenade thrown by Negan during the Savior attack in Issue 120. By Issue 127 (which takes place two years after 126) he's gotten a prosthetic leg.]]
* {{Badass}}: He is a good shot and proficient in using melee weapons to kill zombies.
* BatterUp: Uses a baseball bat several times to kill zombies.
* BlackDudeDiesFirst: Averted and actually helps save his life. When he and a few other group members are captured by Negan and the Saviors, Negan passes Heath and Glenn over when he is looking to make an example of someone because he does not want to be thought of as a racist. Nearly subverted when Negan resorts to eenie meenie to pick his victim and choses [[spoiler:Glenn]].
* CharacterDevelopment: At first he was extremely weary of Rick and his group, but after seeing how their experiences allowed them to protect Alexandria and working closely with Glenn, Heath became extremely loyal to Rick and one of his main advisors.
* DreadlockWarrior
* AFriendInNeed: He goes on a dangerous scavenging run to get medicine for Scott, whose broken leg becomes infected. Unfortunately, the medicine doesn't help and Scott dies.
* LeParkour: One of the ways he navigates around Washington D.C. to look for supplies is by combining this with RoofHopping and [[BuildingSwing Building Swings]].
* LoveInterest: For Denise, who he got to know well after spending so much time at the medical building checking in on Scott.
* TheScrounger: Along with Scott, he is Alexandria's main supply runner. After Scott dies, Heath teams up with Glenn to scavenge.
* SpecsOfAwesome

Denise is one of the Safe-Zones three ([[spoiler:later two]]) doctors, and the only one who is a surgeon. She is in a relationship with Heath.
* TheChick
* DressedToHeal: She is normally seen dressed in a white doctors coat, even when she is not working.
* FlorenceNightingaleEffect: A slight variation: she doesn't fall in love with her patient Scott, instead entering into a relationship with his best friend Heath.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Chooses to save Heath's life rather than amputate her own bitten arm, resulting in her death]].
* LoveInterest: For Heath, after spending time with him as she treated Scott.
* TheMedic: She is Alexandria's main doctor.
* SecretKeeper: She is the only one who know that Rick [[spoiler:left Jessie to die and cut off her hand to save Carl]] after he rambled about it in his grief over [[spoiler:Carl's injury and Jessie and Ron's death]].
* WhatTheHellHero: Out of all the Alexandria citizens, she is the one who gives Rick the most trouble after he submits to the Saviors after they take a significant portion of her major antibiotics and other drugs.
* YouthfulFreckles
* ZombieInfectee: [[spoiler: She is bitten by a zombiefied Holly in Issue 119. -->'''Debut:''' Issue 67

->''"This place is a shining beacon of hope in the middle of a waste land."''

Aaron is a recruiter for the Safe-Zone alongside his partner Eric.
* AfraidOfBlood
* BadassGay: He and Eric are fully capable of surviving on their own for weeks at a time while out recruiting, and Aaron has shown himself to be an excellent shot and capable melee fighter.
* BattleCouple: With Eric, and he is the better fighter of the two.
* DeadpanSnarker: He's a little too quick with the snarky comments, which gets people annoyed at him sometimes.
* DespairEventHorizon: We don't see a whole lot of his reaction, but [[spoiler:he's almost certainly crossed it now that Eric is dead]] And then averted when it turns out this has only fueled his drive to fight the Saviors; he actually handles it quite well.
* TheIdealist: He always looks at situations from the best point of view possible, and is convinced that Alexandria can be the start of civilization returning. However, he is also a realist about human nature, since his experience recruiting people resulted in him encountering many dangerous individuals, so he knows that humans can be just as big a threat as zombies.
* LoveInterest: For Eric.
* MacheteMayhem: He is seen using a machete a few times to dispatch zombies.
* MinorInjuryOverreaction: When Eric is stabbed by a women they were attempting to recruit, Aaron panics and rushes him back to Alexandria. The wound turns out to not be very deep, and Eric barely lost any blood before Dr. Cloyd treated the wound. Aaron tells Rick that he would have no idea what to do if he lost Eric, making his reaction understandable.
* NumberTwo: To Douglas. Since Aaron was the main recruiter, it was often his decision on if people were admitted into the Safe-Zone or not, but once inside, he followed Douglas' orders and decisions while giving him some advice.
* OpenMouthInsertFoot: His brand of snark is not very appreciated by some of the other characters, and he admits it has gotten himself into trouble on a few occasions. It even earns him a DeathGlare from Abraham at one point.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: After [[spoiler:Eric is killed]], the war with the Saviors becomes [[ItsPersonal personal]] for Aaron, and he swears that he won't stop until they are all dead.
* StraightGay
* TheSneakyGuy: He was able to follow Rick's group of experience survivalists around for several days without ever being noticed. During the conflict with the Saviors, he is chosen to go with Jesus to scout out Negan's outposts due to his stealth skills.
* ThoseTwoGuys: He is almost always seen with Eric.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 68

Eric is a recruiter for the Safe-Zone alongside his partner Aaron.
* ActionSurvivor: Compared to Aaron, who is a legitimate {{Badass}}.
* BattleCouple: With Aaron, although he is less combat-proficient.
* BuryYourGays: [[spoiler:To be fair, he lasts a while and [[AnyoneCanDie it's not like he's any more expendable than the rest of the cast]]]].
* BoomHeadshot: [[spoiler:He is shot in the head and killed in "All Out War" during an attack on one of the Savior's outposts.]]
* TheCynic: Unlike Aaron, Eric is fairly cynical about the problems Alexandria has to deal with, a fact which sometimes causes conflict between them.
* DeadpanSnarker: Less so than Aaron but he has his moments.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: When ordered by Negan to throw Carl over the wall he responds by saying [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome "Fuck you, psycho!"]]
* LoveInterest: For Aaron.
* SatelliteLoveInterest: His role in the comic centers almost solely around his relationship with Aaron, and he has very few conversations with other characters.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Attempts to do this after the Negan and the Saviors force Rick to submit, trying to convince Aaron that Alexandria is no longer safe and that they would be able to survive fine on their own. Aaron manages to convince him that they need to stay and help Rick keep the community together.
* StraightGay: Less so than Eric, but he still has virtually no stereotypical gay mannerisms.
* ThoseTwoGuys: He is almost always seen with Aaron.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 73

Holly is a member of the Safe-Zone construction and security crew. She started a relationship with Abraham after he saved her from a group of zombies.
* ActionGirl: Holly was the only ActionGirl in Alexandria before Rick's group arrived.
* AnAxeToGrind: She uses axes to dispose of zombies on a few occasions.
* [[AndThenJohnWasAZombie And Then Holly Was A Zombie]]: [[spoiler: In Issues 119 and 120.]]
* BadassInDistress: [[spoiler: She is captured by the Saviors in Issue 116, and is nearly raped by David in Issue 117 before Negan kills him. In Issue 119, it's revealed that Negan either killed her or had her killed.]]
* BattleCouple: With Abraham.
* TheBigGirl
* BoyishShortHair
* GroinAttack: She has done this twice: the first time to Tobin after his defense strategy nearly got her killed by zombies, and the second time to [[spoiler:Rick so she could be the one to drive a truck through the gate to the Saviors main base]].
* HellBentForLeather: During the issues set in the wintertime, Holly wears a leather jackets frequently.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: She drives a truck through the gates of the Saviors sanctuary to let a herd of zombies trap them inside so the rest of the allied army can take out the outposts unhindered. This gets her captured and eventually killed by the Saviors, although she does say before she is killed that she doesn't care if they kill her since she knows she has hurt them and it would be nice to see Abraham again.]]
* KilledOffscreen: [[spoiler: She is murdered by the Saviors sometime between issue 117 and 119]].
* LadyMacbeth: She has been seen dropping hints to Abraham that maybe he should be the one in charge instead of Rick, [[spoiler:but ultimately nothing comes of it as Abraham is loyal to Rick and is killed by the Saviors]].
* MistakenIdentity: [[spoiler: After being captured by the Saviors, Negan thinks that he has [[IHaveYourWife captured Rick's lover]], and she is unable to convince him she is not.]]
* RescueRomance: With Abraham. It was a secret at first, but after Rosita discovers he is cheating their relationship comes out into the open.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 71

Nicholas is a citizen of the Safe-Zone who lives with his wife Paula and son Mikey. He attempted to lead a conspiracy against Rick and his people, believing him to be a dictator trying to kill the original inhabitants of the Safe-Zone. When Rick spared his life, Nicholas realized he was wrong, and joins Rick's inner circle of advisors.
* BadassMustache
* BatterUp
* CharacterDeath: [[spoiler: Dies from the zombie infection after being wounded by one of the Savior's infected weapons.]]
* DefeatMeansFriendship: After his conspiracy is stopped, he becomes one of Rick's advisors.
* EasilyForgiven: He suffers no repercussions after beating up Glenn and almost shooting him while trying to rally the inhabitants of the Safe-Zone to kick Rick's group out. This leads to him becoming extremely loyal to Rick, although Andrea questions Rick on how wise this was.
* HappilyMarried: From what little we see of the relationship with his wife Paula, they have a very solid and loving marriage.
* InTheHood: After winter arrives, he constantly wears a hoodie with the hood up, although one would think that would restrict his peripheral vision, which is pretty important in a ZombieApocalypse.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be a hot-headed asshole, but is also a loving family man who will utimately do the right thing when it comes down to it.
* OnlyAFleshWound: {{Averted}}: he is shot in his right arm by a Savior in Issue 114 and begins bleeding heavily. Dr. Cloyd tends to his wound, but his arm is now in a sling and he cannot participate in the war against the Saviors. He recovers in time to participate in the battle at the Hilltop.
* PapaWolf
* {{Pride}}: What leads him to try and start a conspiracy against Rick: having worked in construction before the ZombieApocalypse, he can't stand being reduced to a "dirt digger" again while Rick and the other newcomers begin taking over leadership positions.
* ZombieInfectee: [[spoiler: He is wounded by one of the Savior's infected weapons during the battle at the Hilltop, which results in him becoming infected.]]

* LifeOrLimbDecision: A nasty variant; [[spoiler:Rick makes the decision for her, and it's not to save ''her'' but to save ''Carl'' since she won't let go of his hand.]]
* MamaBear: Brutally deconstructed. [[spoiler:She tries to save her son well past the point of any hope od survival and nearly gets Rick and Carl killed as well. All she earns for her trouble is a severed arm and a messy death at the hands of the incoming undead horde.]]
* MercyKill: [[spoiler: Abraham gives her zombiefied form a BoomHeadshot.]]
* RavenHairIvorySkin
* RomanticFalseLead: [[spoiler: She's set up as Rick's new love interest but dies just as their relationship is beginning to blossom]].

!!Pete Anderson
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 72

Pete is one of the three doctors in the Safe-Zone. After Rick discovers he is abusing his wife Jessie and son Ron, he attacks him in his own home. This leads to him getting kicked out of his house, and the start of some SanitySlippage. [[spoiler:He tries to kill Rick in revenge, but ends up murdering Regina instead, causing Douglas to order Rick to execute him.]]
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler: He was abusive to Jessie and killed Regina, so nobody sheds many tears when he's executed by Rick]].
* BerserkButton: He mentions to Rick during their first meeting to call him just Pete, never Peter. [[spoiler:When Regina calls him Peter he snaps and slashes her throat.]]
* BitchInSheepsClothing: He seems like a fun-loving and friendly family man when first introduced, but once Rick learns about his abusive tendencies he shows his true colors.
* BoomHeadshot: [[spoiler: By Rick]].
* BunnyEarsLawyer: A dark version; Douglas knows about his DomesticAbuser tendencies but puts up with it because he's one of the community's only doctors.
* DomesticAbuser
* DoNotCallMePaul: Insists on being called Pete by everyone instead of his (likely) full name Peter. [[spoiler:Regina calling him Peter instead of just Pete is one of the main contributing factors of her death.]]
* DrJerk
* KnifeNut: [[spoiler:After Rick beats him up and gets him kicked out of his home he comes after him with a knife.]]
* SanitySlippage: "This is not my house... This is not my house... and I will not live here. NOT MY HOUSE! Not my house... Not my... "
* WouldHitAGirl: Abuses his wife and even goes so far as to [[spoiler:murder Regina in cold blood when she calls him Peter.]]
* WouldHurtAChild: [[spoiler:He has hit his own son and given him a black eye. One of the main reasons Rick attacks him is because he is worried that if left unchecked Pete would end up killing his own family one day.]]

!!Ron Anderson

Ron is Pete and Jessie's son.
* EatenAlive: [[spoiler: His fate]].
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: [[spoiler: While he's hardly the first child to die in the comic, he's certainly the first one to get killed by zombies on-panel, screaming for his mother the whole time.]]
* UrineTrouble: [[spoiler:Gets him killed.]]

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 70

Olivia is in charge of the Safe-Zone store house and keeping track of what supplies they have and who has it. She reluctantly participated in Nicholas attempted conspiracy, and backed down quickly once Rick intervened.
* ActionSurvivor: Despite having no discernible combat skills she's lasted over sixty issues so far and has outlived many characters who were much more badass than her.
* TheChick: Her role in Alexandria is mostly to be a calm and rational survivor who keeps track of some of the smaller details of running the community while also sometimes smoothing out conflicts.
* EasilyForgiven: For her part in Nicholas' conspiracy.
* FatGirl: Which is a bit odd, since food shortages are pretty common in the middle of a ZombieApocalypse. Negan finds it odd and makes jokes about the Alexandrians putting the one fat person in charge of keeping track of the food, which makes her start crying. Interestingly, she appears to have slimmed down some after the TimeSkip, even though food is more readily available with the new farms.
* TheGenericGirl: She doesn't have many characteristics beyond being somewhat overweight and nice. Most of her appearances revolve around her job, and even her motivations for joining Nicholas' conspiracy are not explored beyond a comment that she finds it weird that Rick is in charge.
* HiddenDepths: She has the courage to slap Negan after he propositions her for sex as a way to apologize for joking about her weight, which impresses him. Later she comments to Rosita that despite her weight, she still does good in the romance department.
* NiceGirl: She is one of the nicer and more stable people in Alexandria.

Tobin is the head of the Safe-Zone construction and security crew and one of the original inhabitants. He gave up his position to Abraham once he realized that he was not suited to leading and protecting people. [[spoiler:Eaten by zombies when the walls of the Safe-Zone were breached.]]
* TheAtoner: He allowed two people to die on his construction crew rather than try to rescue them during zombie attacks, and realized that it was actually possible to do so after Abraham saved Holly. This led to him having a breakdown and letting Abraham taking over his job as head of construction.
** RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:He isn't really a villainous character since he thought he was doing the right thing, but after his actions cost some of his crew their lives he stays at a breach in the wall long enough for help to arrive. * DirtyCoward: When he ran the construction crews, he would have the crew gather into a phalanx formation to fight the undead. If anyone could not get into the formation, Tobin would leave them to die, which led to the deaths of two people, and nearly got Holly killed.
* EatenAlive: [[spoiler: Gets eaten while defending a breach in the wall]].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler: Stayed at a breach in the wall so that Holly could run to get help to defend it, and got eaten in the process.]]

* PuppyLove: Implied with Carl. It remains to be seen if it'll actually go anywhere.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Though she may have joined the Safe Zone after the TimeSkip.

[[folder:Hilltop Colony Survivors]]
!!Paul "Jesus" Monroe
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 91

Jesus is a recruiter for the Hilltop Colony who encounters Rick's group in Issue 92. He doesn't agree with many of the decisions Gregory makes, but doesn't attempt to get him replaced because of how much the rest of the town likes him.
* ApologeticAttacker
* {{Badass}}: Fights more or less evenly with Michonne and Abraham ''at the same time'' in his introduction, and does pretty well, disarming Michonne and not getting shot by Abraham. He is also the only character who manages to put up an even fight against Negan, although he fails to kill him.
** BadassBeard
** BadassGay
** BadassLongcoat
* BerserkButton: ''Really'' doesn't like having guns pointed at him.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: One of the nicest guys in the series, and also one of the most lethal.
* {{Bookworm}}: Nearly all of his belongings at Hilltop are books.
* CombatParkour: He jumps and kicks a lot while engaging both zombies and humans in hand-to-hand combat, and he uses his quickness to dodge attacks and outflank opponents.
* DeadpanSnarker
* EscapeArtist: He has been captured and tied up twice, and both times waited until he had learned what he needed to before casually escaping.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: Before joining the main group.
* InSeriesNickname: "Jesus", due to his looks.
** LooksLikeJesus
* IronicNickname: A guy nicknamed ''Jesus'' who goes up against villains named the ''Saviors?''
* TheLancer: Nominally, he's one to Gregory. By the end of Volume 19 he becomes one to Rick.
* LightningBruiser: He's extremely quick, and the few times he does get hit he is barely inconvenienced.
* MartialPacifist
* NiceGuy
* NiceHat
* NotUsingTheZWord: He refers to the zombies as "eaters".
* NumberTwo: To Gregory, although Jesus often goes against his wishes.
* StealthHiBye: One of his skills, which includes getting out of bonds and escaping a moving car without being notice.
* StraightGay: Revealed to be in a relationship with another Hilltop resident named Alex in Issue 122.
* WarHawk: He wants war with the Saviors in order to end their tyranny over the Hilltop and other communities. He manages to convince many people to join him despite opposition from Gregory.
* TheWorfEffect: He introduces himself by kicking the crap out Abraham ''and'' Michonne ''at the same time.'' As if that wasn't enough, he clearly goes out of his way to not kill or even injure them, and spends the whole fight casually insisting he just wants to talk. One Hell of an EstablishingCharacterMoment.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 95

Gregory is the leader of Hilltop, and likes to take credit for its success even though he is little more than a figurehead. He is the one who agreed to bow to The Saviors demands and give them half the towns supplies.
* BelievingTheirOwnLies: He honestly believes that he is what holds Hilltop together and that they are only alive because of him. He even seems to delude himself into thinking that he never knew Jesus was taking soldiers to fight the Saviors.
* BigBadWannabe: He might lead his own colony, but he gets pretty much zero respect from most people and is nothing more than a pathetic pawn of Negan.
* BreakTheHaughty: After Gregory [[spoiler:tried to side with Negan]], the residents of Hilltop lose what little respect or liking they had for Gregory and he is quickly overthrown by [[spoiler:Maggie]] after getting knocked down in once punch.
* LesCollaborateurs: [[spoiler: To Negan.]]
* CultColony: Michonne thinks Gregory has turned Hilltop into this. Eventually {{subverted}} when it is revealed that everyone in Hilltop thinks he is an idiot, but no one else is willing to step up to lead.
* DirtyCoward: He's too afraid to try and stand up to Negan on his own, even though he has more than 200 people living in Hilltop's well-fortified walls. Instead he decides to let Rick's group take all the risk, and after Negan [[spoiler:murders Glenn]], Gregory panics and demands to know is if Negan has any idea that Gregroy had taken Rick's offer to fight the Saviors.
* DirtyOldMan: Hits on all the women in Hilltop, and even "accidently" walks in on Maggie while Dr. Carson is checking on her pregnancy.
* FaceHeelTurn: [[spoiler: In ''All Out War'', he sides with Negan after being threatened and declares that anyone who follows Jesus in fighting against the Saviors will be banished from Hilltop, along with their families]].
* FailedASpotCheck: He only realizes Rick is missing his right hand when Rick points it out to him on their second meeting.
* HateSink: [[BigBad Negan]] is too awesome to truly hate, so Gregory picks up the slack with his cowardice, insensitivity and stupidity.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Every single decision he makes is designed to benefit him in some way.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: In his one appearance in Volume 21, he actually seems to have improved his behavior after [[spoiler: losing his position as leader]], risking his life to drag the injured Rick inside his house. However, in Volume 22 Maggie mentions that even two years later he hasn't changed his ways at all and is still insufferable.
* KickTheDog: He might have been too much of an idiot to realize how cruel it was, but when he said that Negan is reasonable [[spoiler: to the wife of the man who was ''murdered in front of her by him'']] no no one felt bad when she punched him in the face.
* TheLeader: Type IV.
* PointyHairedBoss: It is very clear that he is doing very little to actually run Hilltop, and at one point he admits to Jesus that he has no idea '''''how many people even live there'''''.
* {{Pride}}: He makes many claims about having a strong "iron will", and tells to Jesus that he is the only thing which holds Hilltop together and stopped Negan from killing them all.
* RunningGag: Forgetting the names of other people, including Rick and Maggie. [[WordOfGod Robert Kirkman]] said it was another way to show what a "shitty" person Gregory is, since he cares so little about others that he doesn't bother to remember their names.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 95

Kal is the head of security for Hilltop.
* {{Badass}}
* BladeOnAStick: Of the city guard type. It's actually lampshaded by Jesus when Rick's group first arrive at the Hilltop, saying that standing around with a deadly weapon all day must make him eager to actually use it.
* BoomHeadshot: [[spoiler: Gets shot in the head in Issue 123 when the Saviors attack the Hilltop.]]
* DeadpanSnarker
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Eduardo. Twice now they have had scenes where the two of them are just talking about something random before spotting Rick's group approching.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 95

Eduardo is one of the gate guards for Hilltop.
* BladeOnAStick: Same deal as Kal.
* ObliviousToLove: He tells Kal about a girl named Mandy who had apparantly being giving him signals that she wanted to go out with him, but finally gave up and just asked him out instead. He feels like an idiot for never noticing before.
* ThoseTwoGuys: With Kal.

!!Dr. Harlan Carson
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 95

Harlan is Hilltop's doctor.
* TheMedic
* NiceGuy: Is friendly and helpful toward his patients.

!!Earl Sutton
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 95

Earl is a blacksmith who crafts weapons for Hilltop.
* TheBlacksmith: He creates spears for the Hilltop, along with any other metal items they need. He also helped craft a prosthetic to replace Rick's missing hand.
* TheMentor: After the TimeSkip, he has begun teaching Carl how to carve and craft things. He also has an apprentice named Rolland who he is teaching to become a blacksmith.
* NiceGuy: He is a friendly and helpful guy and is shown to get along great with everybody he meets.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Seems to have a bit of this going on with Jesus, being one of the few who calls him Paul and claims that him going by "Jesus" is disrespectful, even if he looks like depictions of him. However, he is smiling while saying this and is more than happy to do Jesus favors.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 95

Brianna is a citizen of Hilltop. She has a son, and befriends Maggie Green after she moves to the Hilltop.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: While her son is still alive, her daughter died earlier in the ZombieApocalypse.
* WidowWoman: Her husband was killed by zombies, and she has also lost a boyfriend.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 122

Alex is a citizen of the Hilltop, as well as Paul "Jesus" Monroe's boyfriend.

* ThoseTwoGuys: With Ken.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 128

Ken is a citizen who is first seen riding on horseback to the Hilltop with Marco.

* ThoseTwoGuys: With Marco.
* UncertainDoom: [[spoiler: Marco reluctantly leaves him on a hill to die due to his injuries, but so far it's unclear if he actually died]].

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 131

A resident of the Hilltop who is sent on a rescue mission for Ken.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Has a crush on Maggie, though he's not optimistic about their chances of being together.
* DeadpanSnarker

* RememberTheNewGuy: Same as a lot of characters introduced after the TimeSkip.

[[folder:The Saviors]]

The Saviors are a large group of survivors in the Washington D.C. area who live at the Sanctuary, a massive factory surrounded by a fence and hundreds of zombies chained and impaled upon poles. They are led by Negan, who demands that surrounding communities give the Saviors half of their supplies in exchange for protection against the zombies, although they often dole out violent beatings and sometimes kill members of the other communities. This brutality led to a war between the Saviors against the united forces of Alexandria, the Hilltop, and the Kingdom.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 100

->''"Hi. Rick, isn't it? I'm Negan, and I do not appreciate you killing my men. [[CycleOfRevenge Also, when I sent my men to kill your men for killing my men you killed more of my men.]] Not cool. Not fucking cool. You got no fucking idea how not fucking cool that shit is. But I imagine you'll be up to speed shortly. Yeah. You're going to so regret crossing me in a few minutes. Fuck yes, you will."''

Negan is the leader of The Saviors, and believes that his rule is the only way to keep the communities of the Washington D.C. area alive and bring civilization back to the world. His goal is undermined by his love of violence and the brutal survivors under his command often abusing the other survivor groups.
* AffablyEvil[=/=]FauxAffablyEvil: It's hard to tell, as Negan fluctuates between seeming genuinely affable and reasonable or obviously lying while going into raging rants.
* AGodAmI
* BadGuysPlayPool: He becomes extremely excited after learning that Spencer's house has a pool table, and sets up shop there after [[spoiler:gutting Spencer and waiting for Rick to return to Alexandria]].
* BatterUp: His main weapon, which he has named Lucille.
* BerserkButton: ''Do not damage Lucille.'' [[spoiler:Carl]] learns this in Issue 113, and it is one of the factors that leads to the following arc, [[DisproportionateRetribution an all-out war]].
* BigBad: From Issue 96 to Issue 126.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: He does not operate on the same morality scale as the other characters. He has his set of rules, and even Jesus admits that if you follow them, Negan is a downright reasonable and cheerful guy.
* CargoShip: With Lucille, in-universe. He even admits he's rubbed himself against it. And this is from a man with a PaidHarem.
* {{Cult}}: Leads the Saviors this way, hence their name. See DarkMessiah below.
* ClusterFBomb: Constantly using the "F" word.
* CruelMercy: [[spoiler:Defeated in the "All Out War" by Rick by having his life spared, and him imprisoned for the rest of his life while watching his people thrive without his despotic rule.]]
* DarkMessiah: He even believes he's rebuilding civilization.
* DissonantSerenity: Has a disturbingly cheerful expression while [[spoiler:bludgeoning Glenn to death]] and when he [[spoiler:guts Spencer]].
* TheDreaded: For the Hilltop, and then the Alexandria Safe-Zone after his murder of [[spoiler:Glenn]]. It's shown that his own people are also absolutely terrified of him.
* EvenEvilHasStandards [=/=] RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: Despite his threat to have some of his men rape Carl when first meeting Rick, Negan later admits that was just a bluff and that he dislikes that sexual violence. He also has a no rape policy for the Saviors, and even [[spoiler:executes David when he tries to rape a captive Holly]].
-->'''Negan:''' As much as I ''love'' violence... I absolutely fucking ''hate'' sexual violence. It's... unseemly.
** He is also absolutely disgusted by Gregory's cowardice.
* EvilCounterpart: Like other villainous survivor group leaders, he seems to be one to Rick.
* EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor
* EvilOverlord
* TheGhost: For a very brief period of time. He was frequently mentioned but never seen in issues 96-99, before making a [[EstablishingCharacterMoment grand]] [[HeroKiller entrance]] in issue 100.
* HeelRealization: [[spoiler:Seemingly in Issue 125.]]
* HellBentForLeather: Most of his outfits seem to be made of leather. Many of Saviors follow suit, dressing in similar styles.
* HeroKiller: After tracking down Rick and several members of his group on their way to Hilltop and surrounding them with fifty of his men, he personally murders [[spoiler:Glenn]] with Lucille, and makes it clear to Rick that everyone is his group will suffer the same fate at his hands if they do not fall in line like Hilltop has done. This terrifies the entire group and leaves Rick desperately trying to find a way to fight back.
* ICallItVera: Lucille, his baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire.
* IWillPunishYourFriendForYourFailure: If one of his wives cheats on him, it's the man she cheated with who gets punished.
* KarmaHoudini: Seemingly in Issue 126. [[spoiler:Subverted, in that Rick instead has a CoolAndUnusualPunishment for him: See CruelMercy above.]]
* NiceJobFixingItVillain[=/=]VillainBall: [[spoiler:In Issue 108, he [[KickTheDog brags]] to [[TrappedInVillainy Dwight]] about how he's going to [[IHaveYourWife have sex with Sherry]], having already given him [[TwoFaced his scar]] for "cheating" with her before, for [[ForTheEvulz basically no reason]]. [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere This is the last straw for Dwight]], who opts to [[HeelFaceTurn join Rick's group]] in StormingTheCastle to save his wife and kill Negan.]]
* PaidHarem: Sort of. He has a harem of wives, and in return for being faithful to him, they do not have to earn "points", the currency in his community.
* PragmaticVillainy: Unlike the Governor, he doesn't like killing people, due to needing the communities under his thumb to have enough people to defend themselves and scavenge supplies to give the Saviors.
* PsychopathicManChild: Shades of this, variety E, strewn among the rampant swearing.
-->"It's going to be Pee Pee Pants City here real soon."
-->"I've got an idea. Heh. Eeny, meeny, miny, moe..."
-->"Holy shit-- He's taking it like a champ!"
* SlashedThroat: [[spoiler:In Issue 125, courtesy of Rick with a knife. However, it's nonfatal, and the knife was not infected, and the cut was shallow.]]
* SirSwearsALot: Almost every other sentence. Taken to parodic levels when he talks to Carl inside the Alexandria Safe-Zone. [[spoiler:Subverted two years after the All-Out War in issue 127. He doesn't swear at all, and is very nice to Carl.]]
-->'''Negan:''' Pardon me, young man, and [[HypocriticalHumor fucking excuse the shit out of my goddamn French]]... but did you just ''threaten'' me?
* TheSociopath
* TheUnfettered
* VisionaryVillain: Unlike nigh-OmnicidalManiac the Governor, Negan seeks to build a community of different groups, albeit one under his rule running the zombie apocalypse version of a protection racket.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Honestly believes that his way is the only way for humanity to survive the ZombieApocalypse. [[spoiler:When he realizes he may have been wrong about everything, he undergoes a HeelRealization.]]
* WhamLine: [[spoiler:"Did you really think we didn't have guns just because you never ''saw'' us with them?"]]
* WorthyOpponent: He seems to see Carl this way, and eventually Rick, too.
* WouldHurtAChild: Threatens to have his men gang-rape Carl if Rick doesn't settle down, then later threatens to cut out Carl's remaining eye and feed it to Sophia. [[spoiler:Though apparently he'll only do that to keep others in line. He professes to hating killing people and sexual violence, allegedly.]]

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 98

Dwight is one of Negan's lieutentants and the leader of the first group of Saviors to confront Rick's group. [[spoiler:His wife Sherry is one of Negan's "wives".]]
* BeardOfEvil
* {{Badass}}
* ClusterFBomb: When Eugene bites his dick.
* CoDragons: He is one of several of Negan's top lieutenants.
* GroinAttack: He gets bitten by Eugene right on the dick while holding him hostage.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Turns against Negan in Volume 18]].
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: He tells Negan this after the Saviors were surprised to see him following his capture during the second attack on Alexandria.
* ReverseMole: [[spoiler: He gives Rick, Jesus, and Ezekiel information on where all the Saviors' outposts are, along with detailed information about their main base, so they can end the Saviors reign of terror. He then returns to the Saviors to wait for the right time to assassinate Negan.]]
* TheStarscream: [[spoiler: Takes over the Saviors after helping overthrow Negan.]]
* TheStraightAndArrowPath: Uses a crossbow as his main weapon, and is pretty effective with it.
* TrappedInVillainy: [[spoiler: He claims to Rick, Jesus, and Ezekiel that he hates what he has had to do for Negan, but was forced to do it to protect his wife. He plots with them to kill Negan, destroy the Saviors, and free his wife.]]
* TwoFaced: The left side of his face is burned all the way around to the back of his head. A more realistic than usual variation as he is seen applying eyedrops to compensate for not having any eyelids. [[spoiler:This came from having his face burned with a hot iron for sleeping with Sherry after she became one of Negan's "wives".]]
* WildCard: [[spoiler: The question about if Dwight is really betraying the Saviors, is still working for Negan, or simply waiting to see which side comes out on top before siding with them is still up in the air. He has done a lot to hurt both sides, but has also passed up on a few opportunities to hurt them as well. Dwight ends up having been on Rick's side for real the whole time, and takes over the Saviors to end the war peacefully.]]

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 99

Another of Negan's lieutenants.
* {{Badass}}: He manages to [[spoiler:beat [[ActionGirl Andrea]] almost to death before getting killed]].
* CoDragons: One of several [[TheDragon Dragons]] to Negan. He leads one attack on Alexandria and later leads several Saviors in intimidating members of the Hilltop.
* DestinationDefenestration: [[spoiler: Andrea barely manages to slit his throat and throw him out of a bell tower while he is trying to do the same to her.]]
* EvilBrit: Possibly: he uses British slang a couple of times and wears a shirt with the Union Jack on it.
* HiddenDepths: While attempting to strangle [[spoiler:Andrea]], Connor admits to her that he feels bad about killing them, since they are clearly a WorthyOpponent who has survived a long time and much hardship in the ZombieApocalypse.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Had he not thrown his knife down, he would have killed [[spoiler:Andrea. She manages to grab it and cut him several times, allowing her to eventually slit his throat and throw him out the belltower]].
* {{Jerkass}}
* TheQuincyPunk: Has a mohawk, leather jacket, and numerous piercings, and his general attitude fits the bill as well.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 97

A Savior first seen operating under the command of Dwight.
* BaldOfEvil
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler: Through the neck with a knife by Negan.]]
* NoNameGiven: His name isn't given until his fifth appearance.
* RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil: [[spoiler: Negan is so enraged by his attempted rape of Holly that he kills him]].
* YouHaveFailedMe: [[spoiler: Negan kills him to enforce his "no rape" rule after he attempts to rape Holly.]]

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 105

Another of Negan's followers, running things inside the Sanctuary. His brother is Dr. Harlan Carson of the Hilltop.
* CoDragons: Although he appears to be a more logistical [[TheDragon Dragon]] than a group leader like Negan's other Dragons.
* DefectorFromDecadence: [[spoiler: While he acknowledges that the Saviors at the Sanctuary live a pretty good and safe life, he betrays Negan because he can no longer support the brutal methods he uses and because he is tired of living in fear of having his face melted by an iron.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: After overhearing Dwight claiming to a captive Eugene that he is working with Rick, Carson joins him in rebelling against Negan. He recruits several other Saviors and frees Eugene and the other captives Negan had taken.]]
* NonActionGuy: So far never seen fighting, wielding a gun or killing anybody.
* NumberTwo: He appears to run the day-to-day operations inside the Sanctuary and report any major issues to Negan.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 111

A Savior who guards Negan during his stay at the Alexandria Safe-Zone.
* BoomHeadshot: [[spoiler: Courtesy of Andrea.]]
* JerkAss: Acts incredibly antagonistic to Spencer, and Negan admits he's "wound a bit tight".
* SilentAntagonist: Has one line ("What?") in his short tenure in the comic.
* RedShirt

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 105

A member of Negan's PaidHarem, Sherry is also [[spoiler:Dwight's wife]], and the reason why the latter works with Negan.
* IHaveYourWife: [[spoiler: ''Is'' the wife in this situation to Dwight.]]
* PaidHarem: A member of Negan's.

[[folder: The Kingdom]]

A group based out of an old high school, with a fortified wall built out of metal sheets and reinforced by school buses. They are led by King Ezekiel and join Alexandria and the Hilltop in the war against the Saviors. After the war, they become part of a network of communities attempting to rebuild civilization in the Washington D.C. area.

!!!Tropes related to The Kingdom:
* TheKingdom
* LargeHam: The guards of the Kingdom tend to follow Ezekiel's example of being a LargeHam for effect and then dropping the act around friends:
-->'''Kingdom Guard:''' Who dares trespass on the sovereign land of--oh, shit--Jesus? Is that you?! Hot damn, man. We didn't recognize you at first. Sorry if we startled you.
* RedShirtArmy: They suffer heavier casualties than any other community during the war with the Saviors.

!!"King" Ezekiel
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 108

Ezekiel is the ruler of The Kingdom. He was a zookeeper before the ZombieApocalypse and owns a pet tiger named Shiva that he saved from the zoo where he worked.
* BadassBeard
* CoolPet: Shiva, a tiger from the zoo where he worked. He explains to Michonne that he was there the day Shiva was born and later saved her life when she fell in a pit, making her loyal to him [[spoiler:to the point where she sacrificed her life to save him from walkers]].
* DreadlockWarrior
* EveryScarHasAStory: He shows Michonne three large scars on his stomach where Shiva had attacked him while he attempted to help her after she was injured.
* FingerlessGloves
* TheGoodKing: His number one priority is looking out for the well-being of his people and his allies by ending Negan's reign of terror.
* HeroicBSOD: Has one after [[spoiler: losing a good number of his men and Shiva]], though Michonne snaps him out of it.
* HiddenDepths: Ezekiel may seem crazy at first, but he is actually a very good actor and strategist who is easily able to read people. In the "Letter Hacks" of Issue 113, [[WordOfGod Robert Kirkman]] claims that Ezekiel may be the smartest character in the series so far.
* LargeHam: Although his whole personality is an act. He used to act in a community theater, which helped him develop his "king" persona.
* TheLeader: Type IV. He admits to Michonne that he became "King" due to his group of survivors making him a MemeticBadass due to having a pet tiger and having such a powerful personality. He decided that since the stories that built up around him gave them hope, he had no right to correct their notions about him.
* ParentalAbandonment: Tells Michonne that his father was dead to him from an early age and that his mother never really earned being called one.
* ReluctantWarrior: He dislikes violence, but understands the need for it to combat the Saviors.

-->'''Debut:''' Issue 127

Magna is the leader of her small group.
* AwesomeMcCoolname: Magna is a feminine Latin adjective which means "great".
* DistaffCounterpart: Shares a lot of similarities with Rick. Her reaction to Alexandria is even pretty much exactly the same as his was, believing that it is too good to be true, and resolves to find out what they are hiding.
* GenreSavvy: She easily sees through [[spoiler:Negan's]] attempt to convince her Rick is a monster who has been torturing him, telling him that she knows what somebody who has been tortured looks and acts like, and he clearly has not been.
** WrongGenreSavvy: [[spoiler: Unfortunately, she's hell-bent on proving that Rick's group is hiding something which leads to her making some bad decision, up to and including ambushing Andrea in her house]].

-->'''Michonne:''' Andrea kill this, Andrea kill that. Stay here and protect these people, Andrea. Andrea, come with us for protection. It would get old quick. '''Trust me'''.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Rather cold and distant when she first shows up, but warms up eventually.
* {{Determinator}}
* TheDrifter: Before arriving at the prison.
* HearingVoices: Is sometimes seen talking to no one. Turns out she hallucinates her dead boyfriend sometimes. [[spoiler:However, what happened to the Governor and a conversation afterwards imply it may be [[SplitPersonalityTakeover more than a hallucination]].]] She seems to have mostly recovered from this.
* KatanasAreJustBetter
* ManBitesMan: Bites off the Governorís ear, and bites him in the neck later.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: ''Four times.''
** [[spoiler:Seducing Tyreese, which leads to Carol's SanitySlippage and eventual suicide.]]
** [[spoiler:Not finishing off the Governor so he can come back and kill everyone.]]
** [[spoiler:Taking Tyreese on a reckless mission that ends up getting him killed.]]
** [[spoiler:Amputating Morgan's arm with a sword ''she was just using to kill zombies.'' That couldn't have helped the infection.]]
* PragmaticHero
* RapeAsDrama: [[spoiler: She's raped by the Governor]].
* ScarilyCompetentTracker
* SheWhoFightsMonsters
* SubmissiveBadass: She has no desire for leadership, and prefers to simply get orders from Rick and the other leaders about what they should do next.

!!Father Gabriel Stokes
-->'''Debut:''' Issue 61

Gabriel is a preacher who survived in his church by himself until he ran out of food, and encountered Rick's group on the road. After arriving at the Alexandria Safe-Zone, he took over a church that was within the walls.
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler:He was too scared to open the doors when his congregation tried to get into the church and had to listen as they were devoured. This almost repeated itself during the herd attack on Alexandria, but this time he was able to act.]]
* DemotedToExtra: It's only the occasional appearance that keeps him from becoming a case of ChuckCunninghamSyndrome. Robert Kirkman actually had to confirm that he was still alive in the aftermath of All-Out War, since he appeared so little during that arc that it was entirely possible that he had been killed off screen during one of the battles.
* GoodShepherd: Completely averted at first, since he [[spoiler:let his entire congregation die to save his own life.]] He later grows into this role for the Alexandria Safe-Zone.
* HisStoryRepeatsItself: [[spoiler:Gabriel tells Rick about how he kept a door to his original church closed when the dead came, keeping people locked out in fear. In Issue 82, Eugene yells for him to open the Alexandria Safe Zone church doors during a horde invasion, and he does so, letting them in. In Issue 84, he ups this further by going out to help fight off the hordes.]]
* LaserGuidedKarma: What he thought Rick's group might be, [[spoiler:hoping that Rick had been sent by God to kill him for locking his congregation outside of the church.]]
* NonActionGuy: Although he managed to gather some courage and kill a few zombies when [[spoiler:the Alexandria Safe-Zone was overrun.]]
* OutOfFocus: Hasn't gotten much to do ever since his character arc was completed in "No Way Out".
* PreacherMan
* TokenReligiousTeammate
* UngratefulBastard: In return for protecting him and helping get him to the Alexandria Safe-Zone, Gabriel tries to get the rest of Rick's group kicked out because he thinks their [[spoiler:ruthless killing of the cannibals makes them unfit to be part of the community. Douglas disagrees, telling him that nearly everyone there has had to commit murder or worse to survive before the Safe-Zone was built and to never bring it up again.]]

The leader of a small group of scavengers in Washington D.C. who come across the Alexandria safezone and try to force their way inside. He is quickly killed before the ensuing firefight between the Alexandria survivors and the members of his group.
* BadBoss: Shoves one of his own group members into the zombies so that he and the others can escape.
* BaldOfEvil: Dangerous murderer who tries to use force to get what he wants? Check. Not a single hair on his entire head? Check.
* BoomHeadshot: Courtesy of Andrea when he attempts to pull a gun on Rick after failing to talk his way inside.
* TooDumbToLive: Despite being heavily outnumbered, outgunned and in no position to be making threats he tries to force Rick to open Alexandria's gates for him. Unsurprisingly, this gets him a bullet to the head from Andrea and his entire crew wiped out in the span of a few minutes. He does say that the group was desperate, but he still could have been civil and did as he was told by Rick.

[[folder:The Walkers]]
The dead themselves are just as much characters of The Walking Dead as the living survivors are and set the events of the story in motion. While The Walking Dead has mostly shied away from "elite special zombies" the Walkers that appear have been grouped into two types based on behavior.

The first type are called Roamers due to their tendency to travel around in search of prey. This type is more likely to react to noises and movement and will actively seek out living survivors. Often they will also band together into large groups called "herds" which can pose a serious threat to even the most advanced settlements.

The second type are less common and called Lurker's due to their more lethargic disposition. They will often ignore humans who don't get too close but can be even more dangerous than Roamers due to their way of blending into the environment and appearing to be harmless dead bodies until they attack.

Note: Only characters who are introduced as zombies are included below, characters who first appeared as humans and then turned are included in the folders above. Also be aware of unmarked spoilers due to the nature of these characters appearing dead to begin with.
* NotUsingTheZWord: Rarely are they simply called zombies. Each group has their own name for them, from Biters to Geeks to Lamebrains.
* PosthumousCharacter: Given that they all became zombies before appearing.
* ZergRush: Herds can wipe out entire settlements if they are big enough.

!!Bicycle Girl

A helplessly pathetic zombie encountered by Rick on the side of the road in the very first issue. She is put out of her misery by him before he begins his trip to Atlanta.
* AscendedExtra: The live action version of The Walking Dead gives her a backstory and explains how she ended up as the bicycle zombie. This version of her isn't even named.
* EatenAlive: There is barely anything left of her by the time Rick stumbles upon her.
* MercyKill: Rick takes a moment to put her down before moving on at the end of the first issue.
* NoNameGiven: Since she is just a zombie laying on the side of the road this is to be expected. Her nickname comes from the fact that she was found near a bicycle.
** The tv show gives her the name Hannah as well as a proper backstory, but that may not be canon for this version of her.

Hershel's son who was killed before the events of the comic. While he received little focus in the comic itself he serves a much bigger role in the first episode of the video game series by Telltale, which shows how he arrived at his current state. [[spoiler:He is killed by Hershel when he bites and infects his brother Arnold after being let out of the barn.]]

For more information, see [[Characters/TheWalkingDeadVideoGameSeasonOneCharacters his entry on the video game's page.]]
* AscendedExtra: Little more than a named zombie in the comic he gets a bit of backstory in the video game when he rescues Lee and Clementine and brings them to his father's farm for a night.
* DoomedByCanon: His zombie form in the comics makes his fate in the game a forgone conclusion. The actual details of his death are left up to the players choices, however. (For more information refer to his page on the game's character sheet.)
* [[spoiler:MercyKill: He gets shot in the head by his father after killing his brother Arnold.]]
* MultipleChoicePast: While he dies in the game regardless of what the player does several of the details surrounding his death are determined by the choices they make when interacting with him.

!!Mike And Terry

The zombiefied remains of Michonne's boyfriend and his best friend whom she has kept around to mask her presence to the zombies. They are both decapitated by Michonne so she can gain entrance into the prison and join Rick's group.
* OffWithHisHead: Both are decapitated by Michonne when she joins up with Rick's group at the prison.
* RaceLift: Terry is supposed to be white in the comics but the version of him that appears in the tv show is black.

The Governer's daughter (niece) who was zombiefied before her debut in the comic. The book series "Rise Of The Governor" goes into more detail about her life with her father and uncle and eventual death before they reach Woodbury.
* DoomedByCanon: Her fate as the Governor's zombie pet in the comics makes her death in the novel a sure thing.
* GirlishPigtails: Keeps this hairstyle even in her zombie form.
* UndeadChild: Which is creepy enough even without all the things the Governor does with her corpse, which he keeps as a sort of pet.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: The last we see of her is when the Governor is entrusting her to the care of one of his residents while he goes off to lead the Woodbury militia on its siege against the prison. With his death there along with that of most of his citizens her ultimate fate remains unknown.
** While it isn't shown in the comic she eventually gets put down by Lilly.
