These are the tropes featured by characters (and versions of characters) in ''FanFic/ThePromise''.

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:Naruto Canon Good Guys]]
!!''Manga/{{Naruto}}'' characters within ''The Promise'' feature these tropes:
!!!Minato Namikaze
* TheAce: Widely considered the strongest ninja alive. The only few people who can really stand up to him are [[AsskickingLeadsToLeadership the other kages]] and [[TheDragon Pain]].
* BadassTeacher: To Team Minato.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Literature/{{Discworld}} Captain Carrot.]] At least with strangers.
* {{Fainting}}: Faints as soon as Kushina tells him she's pregnant.
* AFatherToHisMen: He even adopts Kakashi, Rin, and Obito!
* GoodIsNotDumb
** GoodIsNotNice: Once his BerserkButton is pressed.
* OnlySaneMan: He certainly seems to embody this trope when surrounded with [[ThePrankster Obito, Kushina, and Naruto]].
* PapaWolf: Do not give him a reason to think you ''might'' have endangered one of his kids. You won't live long enough to regret it.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* RedBaron: He's still Konoha's Yellow Flash, folks.
* SpamAttack: He uses the [[TeleportSpam Hiraishin]] more than a hundred times during the fight with Madara, combining it with [[SpectacularSpinning the Rasengan]] and even inventing a new variation of the latter on the spot.
* StepfordSmiler: When dealing with people he really doesn't like. His "public smile" has been known to send people into fits of terror because of the sheer uncertainty of what he's thinking. And with someone as dangerous as he is, ''you don't want to be kept guessing about that''. It doesn't help that he's usually broadcasting killing intent at the same time.

!!!Kushina Uzumaki
* ActionMom: She's only got one actual kid (Naruto), but she adopted six others at various points in the prologue as well. And she's the most powerful kunoichi on the entire planet when she actually goes to fight.
* BarrierMaiden: Technically, if something goes wrong with her seal, the Kyuubi would escape and wreak horrible destruction upon the world. But she subverts most of the characterization tropes regarding it.
* FieryRedhead: Just like in canon.
* TheHyena: In any scene she's in after the prologue, she's likely to be laughing her head off at something or other.
* MamaBear: Don't touch her kids. [[BadassFamily Not that most people really could.]]
** ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend: Of her [[TheAce husband]].
* MightyGlacier: She's nowhere near as fast as her husband, [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown but if she catches you...]]
* PersonOfMassDestruction: She's the Kyuubi jinchuuriki. If something ever sets her off as badly as the canon battle with Pain, she's going straight to eight tails and not looking back.
* ThePrankster: She has managed to prank every clan compound in the entire village. Twice.
* RedBaron: The Bloody Habanero.
* SupremeChef: She manages to earn the undying loyalty of a clan of fox youkai by feeding them inarizushi and atsuage, and later pulls off much the same thing with dog youkai.
* TeamMom: Even before adopting Team Minato.

!!!Obito Uchiha
* BadassTeacher: To his genin team as well as anyone he's ever been a mentor to.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Itachi and Sasuke, and to Iruka before them.
* DefectorFromDecadence: As he puts it, he didn't really like most of his clan's policies and behaviors. The feeling was mutual.
* HappilyMarried: To Rin.
* ImprobableAge: He's declared the head of the Uchiha clan (or what remains of it) post-Massacre, at age fourteen. He even points out how utterly ridiculous this is.
* MegaManning: He's the new Copycat.
* PlayingWithFire
* ThePrankster: He helped Kushina with most of her pranks on the Uchihas.
* RedBaron: The Copy-Cat Ninja, Sharingan Obito, or [[EmbarrassingNickname Konoha's Burning Assassin]]. The first two are a result of him activating and mastering his Sharingan within six months, and he actually kept this development a secret from his clan; Fugaku found out about this development through an enemy's captured bingo book and never forgave Obito for keeping it a secret. The last one is a [[NoodleIncident mystery]].
* SparedByTheAdaptation: The mission to Kusa was fortunately [[ForWantOfANail derailed]] by Nariko's interference. [[spoiler:Or at least, it was ''thought'' he was this, to both the author and everyone else. At least until Chapter 599 of the ''Naruto'' manga came out]].
** TookALevelInBadass: Living to adulthood can do that for a kid.
* SummonMagic: He has a summoning contract for hawks.
* TricksterMentor: It should probably be mentioned that he likes introducing his students to [[LargeHam Maito Gai]].
** TrainingFromHell: Has been on both the giving and receiving end of this trope. His genin team never did quite recover...nor did Iruka. Most of this is because he likes to inflict Maito Gai on people.

!!!Kakashi Hatake
* BadassTeacher: To Team Seven.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Perpetually late, reads dirty novels all day, acts like the laziest person on the planet short of a Nara, and seems to have a different girlfriend every week. And yet, he can still kick your ass.
* TheComicallySerious: Sometimes. Usually when Obito's around, actually.
* HappilyAdopted: By Minato and Kushina after the almost-disastrous mission to Kusa.
* LightningBruiser: It comes with being on Team Minato.
* LovableSexManiac: He still reads Icha-Icha!
* MrFanservice: He even has the fanclub to prove it.
* ObfuscatingStupidity: How the hell he keeps pulling this off on people who should by all rights know better, no one knows.
* RedBaron: Konoha's White Wolf.
* ShockAndAwe: His affinity.
* TookALevelInBadass: He ended up concentrating on improving his speed, strength, and skill with his father's tanto during the interim years he spent in ANBU. He's therefore stronger, faster, and has more endurance than his canon counterpart.
* UrbanLegendLoveLife: Thanks to a rumor started by Obito.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Obito, sometimes.

!!!Rin
* BadassTeacher: For Sakura, until Tsunade steps in to take over.
* FacialMarkings
%%* FragileSpeedster: As the team medic-nin, she's generally expected to get the hell away from the fighting long enough to help the injured. She tends not to have many mass-destruction techniques as a result.
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon: She works in the hospital. This tends to mean that she has easy access to syringes.
* HappilyMarried: To Obito.
* TheHeart
* HospitalHottie
* TheMedic
** CombatMedic: She fights like a cross between Shizune and Kabuto.
** DeadlyDoctor: Rin can kill you with her normally life-saving surgical techniques.
* OnlyOneName: Since she never got a family name in canon.
* OnlySaneMan: For her team.
* PregnantBadass: Not that she knows about it until the Chuunin Exam arc.
* TookALevelInBadass: Remember the little girl who got kidnapped during that one mission to Kusa? She got better. It's amazing what living to adulthood can do for a character.

!!!Iruka Umino
* AlmightyJanitor: Even more so than in canon; though he managed to overpower Itachi once (when the kid was about eight or nine, admittedly) and has better scores than nearly all of the special jounin in the series, he's still too nice to be a jounin. And he actually likes teaching.
* BadassBookworm
* BadassTeacher: For anyone going through the Academy.
* BigBrotherMentor: To Itachi, Sasuke, and Naruto to varying degrees. Naruto says he's his favorite older brother, though.
* HappilyAdopted: By Kushina.
* LetsGetDangerous: While it's mentioned that he managed to beat Itachi during his Chuunin Exams, it doesn't really sink in how much more dangerous he's gotten until he starts wrecking Oto forces.
* MakingASplash: His affinity.
** ElementalBaggage: He managed a Nidaime Hokage-style workaround.
* NiceGuy
* SternTeacher: For the Konoha Twelve.
* SummonMagic: Dolphins. [[ThisLooksLikeAJobForAquaman Extremely useful in a coastal climate.]] [[UselessUsefulSpell Which Konoha is not.]]
* SuperSenses: His hearing, which is mentioned as early as his genin days.
* TookALevelInBadass: Sort of a side effect of associating with Obito since before making genin. When Iruka was later practicing for the Chuunin Exams and Takomi needed to find a sensei for him, Obito volunteered to help him, which Iruka's sensei accepted. [[TrainingFromHell He just didn't mention that Maito Gai was going to be his assistant]].

!!!Itachi Uchiha
* BigBrotherMentor: To Sasuke, mostly. Naruto sort of got adopted in.
* ChildSoldier: He was older than Kakashi when he started, at least.
* TheGift: He's still a prodigy at killing people, no matter how much he'd rather not be. It eventually led him to decide that if he was going to be good at it, he might as well be the best. Thus, we have a jounin Itachi.
* HarmfulToMinors: Between him and Sasuke, Itachi's the only one who was old enough to remember the Uchiha Massacre. He still gets occasional flashbacks.
* MartialPacifist: He really, honestly, does ''not'' want to fight. But he's a jounin and sometimes that's just what he has to do.
* MasterOfIllusion: Not to a kitsune's level, but he's one of the best in the shinobi world.
* MinoredInAsskicking: Itachi doesn't like to fight much, preferring to stay in Konoha and teach philosophy to Academy students if given a choice, but he can and will outfight anyone dumb enough to get in his way.
* PlayingWithFire
* TheQuietOne
* TallDarkAndHandsome: He has his own fanclub, just like damn near everyone else in the family.
* WarriorPoet

!!!Naruto Uzumaki
* BigEater: It's genetic, given his mother's tendencies.
* BookDumb: Oh, there's no doubt that he's a very talented kid, but he would much rather skip class than do any work and managed to pass his courses in the Academy through the practical tests.
* TheChosenOne
* DitzyGenius: He can be pretty slow about some things, such as interpersonal interactions, but he's not a bad kid and is an excellent strategist if called upon.
* HighlyVisibleNinja: Except for the bell test, when he knew he was going to be up against Kakashi of all people, Naruto likes wearing orange all the time.
* TheHyena: Like his mother, he's often found laughing hysterically at one thing or another.
* IdiotHero: Less so than in canon, but he still has that odd tendency to rush into things without thinking.
* {{Keet}}: He is ''unbelievably'' hyperactive.
* ThePrankster
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Ramen, which is, oddly enough, a quirk shared with half of his family and probably almost as many people outside of it.
* WarriorPrince: He's the Hokage's kid. It was gonna happen eventually.

!!!Sasuke Uchiha
* CelibateHero: If the fangirls didn't put him off the idea, Orochimaru did.
* FreudianTrio: With Naruto and Sakura. Sasuke's the Superego.
* TheLancer
* MegaManning: Once he activates his Sharingan.
* MrFanservice: Given the fangirls...
* PlayingWithFire: He never learns the Chidori here--instead, he picks up Obito's not-Rasengan variant.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Naruto's Red.
* SiblingYinYang: He has this with Naruto--out of the Namikaze-Uzumaki adopted brood, they're the closest in age and are practically twins sometimes.
* TeamDad: When Kakashi's being irresponsible.

!!!Sakura Haruno
* BreakTheHaughty: Pretty much immediately after being assigned to Team Seven.
* CombatMedic: Not long after Kakashi realizes that her chakra control is nigh-perfect, he introduces her to Rin as a new apprentice. Thus, she gets started on her medic training ''much'' earlier than in canon -- even before the Chuunin Exams.
* ACupAngst
* ForeheadOfDoom
* SmittenTeenageGirl: For Sasuke, of course.
* TeenGenius: In her own studious sort of way.
* TookALevelInBadass: Thank you, Rin.

!!!Hanare
* AscendedExtra: Originally a filler character from the Konoha History arc in ''Anime/NarutoShippuden''.
* FemmeFataleSpy: This was probably her intended role, but someone screwed up her social training just a bit. Instead, she's simply a spy who happens to be female.
* HighHeelFaceTurn: She defects from Joumae to Konoha once [[TheMatchmaker Obito and Nariko]] convince her to stick around with Kakashi. It took a bit more than that, but having a positive influence in her life certainly helped.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Toward Kakashi.
* MemoryGambit: Her signature ability. It's not known whether it actually erases her memories or if it just suppresses them so even a mind-reader like Inoichi can't detect anything.
* RogueAgent: From Joumae, rather than Konoha.
* TortureAlwaysWorks: Completely subverted, since Hanare's special abilities allow her to completely erase suspicious information from her mind, and because she's been more rigorously trained in counter-interrogation techniques than any of the named characters.
* TykeBomb: She was raised by the head of Joumae to be an infiltration expert and never realy questioned orders, even as an adult. At least, up until she meets Kakashi again. There was a certain element of social deprivation involved -- Konoha is much more open than she's used to.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Invoked. A classical PolitenessJudo expert iamge would be useufl for an espionage expert kunoichi

[[folder:[=InuYasha=] Canon Good Guys]]
!!''Manga/{{Inuyasha}}'' characters from ''The Promise'' feature these tropes.
!!!Kagome Higurashi
* ActionMom: Well, it's kind of a given at this point...
* BerserkButton: Don't hurt anyone she cares about unless you want your head vaporized by a sparkly pink arrow.
* GenkiGirl
* HappilyMarried: To Inuyasha.
* TheHeart
* HolyHandGrenade: Based on her reiki powers, she can mass-murder any youkai she comes across given enough time and ammunition.
* TheMedic
* {{Miko}}: The oldest and most powerful in the history of their world.
* PluckyGirl
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: As she points out to Team Minato.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* TeamMom
* {{Tsundere}}: Type B.

!!!Inuyasha
* AttackAttackAttack: Okay, he doesn't have much of a head for strategy.
* BarrierBustingBlow: Used more than once against uppity Oto-nin. Even on the barrier designed to trap the most powerful man alive.
* BerserkButton: He hasn't changed much, despite currently being second in power among all of the youkai left on the planet. Don't mess with people he cares about and maybe you'll live.
* BrutalHonesty: He hasn't really mastered the art of subtlety.
* CounterAttack: Remember the Tessaiga? [[OhCrap It can cut through dimensions now.]]
* HalfHumanHybrid: Still a half-youkai, as per the ending of his own series.
* HappilyMarried: To Kagome.
* HotBlooded
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* NoSocialSkills: Granted, he's gotten better, but he's still rather rough around the edges and probably will be until the day he dies.
* PerpetualFrowner
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Well over a thousand at this point.
* SirSwearsalot: He's much more likely than any other character to drop a ClusterFBomb, including Obito at his worst.
* TeamDad

!!!Shippou
* AsianFoxSpirit: The only nine-tailed example in the series aside from the Kyuubi. [[spoiler:And ultimately, the only ''real'' one.]]
** MasterofIllusion: To the point that he can see through everyone else's, too. And then he passed that immunity on.
** PlayingWithFire
* ChickMagnet: It's mentioned that Souten is his "first wife" and favorite. He's also managed to have many of those sixteen children out of wedlock. Since he's a kitsune, no one really cares all that much.
* FieryRedhead: It's more auburn, and he doesn't run as hot as some of the other characters that fall under this trope.
* TheGhost: He doesn't show up in person until some fifteen chapters after he's introduced as the catalyst of the entire plot.
* {{Kaiju}}: Foxes should not get that big.
* ThePatriarch: He's a nine-tailed fox with more than sixteen offspring. He rules them all with a bunch of jokes, plenty of power, and absolute loyalty.
* TookALevelInBadass: Guess who made it to nine tails and near-invincibility?
* VoluntaryShapeshifting

!!!Souten
* ActionMom
* BoisterousBruiser: Much like half the people she knows, it seems.
* {{Flight}}: Via similar flying wheels to those that her older brother Hiten used to own.
* KamehameHadoken: Do not underestimate the amount of damage a pissed-off raijuu can put out when her hand is in your face. Or you won't have a face in very short order.
* MissingMom: She disappears at some point between meeting Sakumo and Nariko's first foray into Konoha, only to resurface a decade later, having been sealed into a teapot in the interim.
* PersonOfMassDestruction
* RedEyesTakeWarning: One of her signature features.
* SealedBadassInACan: Turns out that she somehow got herself sealed into a teapot at some point after meeting [[DisappearedDad Sakumo]]. She breaks out quite a while later.
* ShockAndAwe: She ''is'' a raijuu.

!!!Sesshoumaru
* AntiHero
* AsskickingLeadsToLeadership: He's the ruler of Byakko because he's the most powerful youkai in the entire region.
* AwakeningTheSleepingGiant: He's the most powerful neutral faction in any given conflict, even just on his own. It's generally a bad idea to annoy him, because he's capable of singlehandedly wrecking any known organization in the ''Franchise/{{Naruto}}'' universe.
* BerserkButton: Seriously, people. Stop trying to kidnap Rin. It has '''never''' ended well for the perpetrators, not even the ''[[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu King of Hell]]''.
* FlashStep
* HappilyMarried: As much as anyone can tell that he's happy, ever, but he smiles for his wife (and few others) and anyone who harms her soon finds themselves dead or worse.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: Ever since he mastered the use of the [[NamedWeapons Baku]][[InfinityPlusOneSword saiga]].
* PhysicalGod: He's gotten quite a bit stronger than he was at the end of his origin series.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Closer to 1,700 now.
* TheStoic: The closest he gets to ''showing an actual expression of emotion'' during the course of the story is when the Sound Four make the mistake of assuming they can slow him down. Cue PsychoticSmirk and CurbStompBattle.
* StoryBreakerPower: This is why he usually stays home to quell rebellions and stuff.
* {{Youkai}}: ''Taiyoukai''.

!!!Rin
* DeadpanSnarker: Under the right circumstances.
* DefiantCaptive: She refuses to be cowed in the worst of situations, because Sesshoumaru will always save her. [[BigDamnHeroes She's right]].
* HappilyMarried: To Sesshoumaru. She's one of the very few people who can make him smile, and she's the one he'll do anything for.
* OneSteveLimit: Defied. This Rin is the one from ''Manga/{{Inuyasha}}'' canon and is married to Sesshoumaru. She thinks the naming coincidence with the medic-nin is rather funny.
* ParentsInDistress: Happened once. Her kids proceeded to open the gates of hell on the kidnappers.
* PluckyGirl: She's gone through a lot. It doesn't slow her down.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: She has surpassed the human live span, but looks the same.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:OC Allies]]
!!Original Characters from ''FanFic/ThePromise'' feature these tropes:
!!!Nariko Inabikarito
The oldest of the fox youkai who decide to stick around in Konoha, Nariko has a high opinion of herself when she arrives. That quickly changes once she gets some actual experience, and eventually she becomes a stronger and kinder person for it.
* {{Ambadassador}}: [[spoiler:Several years post-Madara, she finally earns this position among her peers and spends most of her time in Konoha, when she's not just being her family's {{Courier}}.]]
* AsianFoxSpirit: A black one. [[spoiler:More specifically, her and her siblings' natures foreshadow which of them die. White, black, and nine-tailed foxes are considered lucky in Myth/JapaneseMythology--[[PluckyGirl Nariko]], [[ShrinkingViolet Haruki]], and [[DeadpanSnarker Umeko]] are black, white(ish) and red, respectively, and all of them have four tails or fewer. Umeko dies first. Since white is the color of death in Japan, Haruki dies next. Nariko, with [[FourIsDeath four tails]], black coloring, and a lot of extra help, [[SurvivedTheBeginning manages to survive the prologue]].]]
* BadlyBatteredBabysitter: [[spoiler:When you're looking after [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Naruto and Sasuke]], this kind of thing is expected. And justified.]]
* DeliberateInjuryGambit: During Kakashi Gaiden, she doesn't have a whole lot of other tricks, so she allows an Iwa-nin to run her through in order to get her claws in him.
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Not long after she's first introduced, she decides to cut her long hair back to more manageable levels--hip-length is a bit too long for a close-combat fighter.
* FemmeFatalons
* FunctionalMagic: As far as fox-magic goes, she's rather proficient.
** PlayingWithFire
** ShockAndAwe: Her mom's a raijuu.
** MasterOfIllusion: Well, she ''is'' a fox.
* HealingFactor: Which allows her to survive multiple lethal torso injuries without much trouble.
** GoodThingYouCanHeal: She's a bit of a kunai-magnet. [[spoiler:Without knowing it, she actually manages to take almost all of the crippling/lethal blows meant for the other characters during Kakashi Gaiden. As a result, Team Minato survives mostly unscathed.]]
* HeroicBSOD: She has a brief one upon realizing that she's being called back home to fight in a war and many of her human friends are dead.
** [[spoiler:And another one upon realizing that her siblings are dead.]]
* ImprovisedWeapon: Her ''geta''. And yet, throwing shoes with her youkai strength can be...[[LudicrousGibs messy]].
* PluckyGirl
* PowerTrio: With her younger brother and sister.
* ThePrankster
* PrideBeforeAFall: She has a rather inflated opinion of her own abilities, but it quickly becomes obvious that she isn't a trained fighter and her natural abilities barely make up for it. She decides to dedicate herself to ''actually'' becoming stronger thereafter.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Actually, a little over three hundred.
* ReverseGrip: Seen when she uses her kodachi. This is mostly because she doesn't so much slash with it as block all the time.
* ShipperOnDeck: She is constantly rooting for Kakashi to get into ''some'' kind of relationship that lasts more than two weeks.
* SuperStrength: To a lesser degree than the dogs, but more than any normal human.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Again, a reference to the fact that she's a kitsune (or at least half).
* TeamMom: It seems to be her default state no matter who or what she's dealing with--with her actual siblings, or [[spoiler:Yukihana's orphaned children in a [[TrappedInAnotherWorld side-story]].]]
** [[spoiler:The sole survivor of her litter, she occasionally has problems with the idea of losing any more loved ones.]]
** TookALevelInKindness: From her first, rather arrogant, persona.
** TookALevelInBadass: As a result of TrainingFromHell with Sanyu and Amaya, who are both several CharacterTiers higher than she is. Still disappears into a CornerOfWoe if said said training is mentioned.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Inarizushi and any other type of fried tofu dish. Also, rice.
* UnusualEyebrows: Hers are shaped more like slightly elongated black dots than anything. It's an ''VideoGame/{{Okami}}'' reference.
* VictoriasSecretCompartment: She tends to keep the MacGuffin of the day in here. Along with blackmail photos, snacks, and money. It's apparently a way for her to make up for the fact that she doesn't have any pockets.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: She can't use chakra due to the fact that she hasn't got any, so she relies on her youkai powers to keep her edge in a world full of [[KungFuWizard supernatural]] {{ninja}}s.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She's terrified of dogs.

!!!Haruki
Nariko's nervous younger brother, Haruki is probably more dangerous than he lets on. He rarely does anything too out of the ordinary and actually seems to have many of his sister's traits, just less extreme. It makes him the most agreeable out of them, though he's a bit of a failure as far as prankster foxes go.
* AsianFoxSpirit: A white one.
* BadassAdorable
* ButtMonkey: In the family, anyway.
* CowardlyLion
* FashionableAsymmetry: One sleeve is much longer than the other, he has a fishnet glove up to his wrist on one hand and to his shoulder on the other...
* FunctionalMagic: Like his sisters, he has his talents.
** PlayingWithFire: He's the most [[{{Fireballs}} fireball]]-happy of the three foxes.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He tries his best to hold Madara off long enough for Obito, Iruka, and Iruka's parents to get away. The latter two die anyway, as does Haruki after a brief fight.]]
* MiddleChildSyndrome: Mentioned by name in relation to him.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: About three hundred.
* ShrinkingViolet: An odd male example--he seems to be most nervous around his sisters.
* StutterStop: [[spoiler:After Madara kills Umeko, Haruki has about a minute to grieve before the battle continues. When he talks again, his stutter and nervous pausing are both gone.]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Atsuage.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Well, he's a fox. More specifically, he tends to lounge around as a tiny white fox when he doesn't want to attract attention.

!!!Umeko
Nariko's younger sister, Umeko is the most vicious of the three despite being the youngest and appearing to be the most innocent. She's a no-nonsense, extremely blunt kitsune with absolutely no tolerance for delays or complaints of any kind, though she can be a bit of a [[DeadpanSnarker snarker]] herself.
* BigSisterBully: An inversion as she's the younger sister. However, Umeko was ''not'' nice to Haruki when they were growing up.
* BrutalHonesty: Practiced continuously.
* CombatMedic: When learning how to be a midwife, she used to defend her [[GentleGiant teacher's]] farm from youkai attacks. How? By brutally killing them all.
* CurbStompBattle: [[spoiler:Madara wastes her in one hit. [[MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning Of course, that actually ended up screwing him over]].]]
* DeadpanSnarker
* DoctorJerk: She knows what she's doing when it comes to midwifery, painkillers, and general healing, but she's extremely caustic and pushy.
* FieryRedhead
** GirlishPigtails
* FunctionalMagic: Presumeably she ''could'' pull off anything her brother or sister could, but she doesn't get any chances to fight.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She likes babies, and she's generally pretty good about making sure everyone stays healthy for as long as she can. But it doesn't change the fact that she's rude, a bully, and more than willing to call people out on perceived faults.
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: [[spoiler:Killing her meant that she could direct all of her dying, pent-up youki to lay a pair of curses on Madara. First, [[Anime/PrincessMononoke her head comes off and bites the guy's arm off]]. And then it's revealed that the ''actual'' curse was that he couldn't leave the village. Considering that he's already pissed off Minato and he suddenly can't pull off his own teleporting technique, it's just a matter of time before he gets killed.]]
* PetTheDog: She wants to be a midwife of both human and youkai patients and studies with a family friend to that end.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: About three hundred.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: Directed at Sanyu because of an ill-timed complaint on his part.

!!!Sanyu
Youngest son of the youkai lord [[Manga/{{Inuyasha}} Sesshoumaru]], Sanyu is a powerhouse at slightly more than two hundred years old. He's by no means the strongest of his father's children, owning a [[HealingShiv healing sword]] rather than his older siblings' WMD-class weapons, but he can hold his own in any fight he's been in so far. [[spoiler:Even against [[BigBad Madara]].]]
* BigBrotherInstinct: For Amaya.
* BrotherSisterTeam: With Amaya.
* FacialMarkings: A crescent moon on his forehead, diamond-shaped eyelid marks, and two jagged stripes along his cheekbones.
* FlashStep
* GoodIsNotNice: He's kind of a loudmouthed jackass to people he doesn't know.
* HealingShiv: He's not sure why he has one, either. [[spoiler:It comes in handy when Umeko dies and they need a miracle healer before Minato bleeds to death.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He can be rather standoffish and rude, not to mention having a rather violent temper, but he takes care of his servants and everyone else important to him.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy
* NighInvulnerable
* PoisonousPerson
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: About two hundred.
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Amaya's blue.
* SuperStrength
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Pork ramen.
* WellDoneSonGuy
* {{Youkai}}: ''Taiyoukai'', actually.

!!!Amaya
Youngest daughter of the youkai lord [[Manga/{{Inuyasha}} Sesshoumaru]], Amaya is the calm, composed child to Sanyu's relatively boisterous nature. She is just as powerful as her brother and, occasionally, crueler. But despite her icy demeanor, she can be kind and polite in the correct circumstances. [[spoiler:And she can take on [[BigBad Madara]] where even the most powerful human characters fail, despite being a full century younger than Nariko.]]
* BrotherSisterTeam: With Sanyu.
* FacialMarkings: A crescent moon on her forehead, eyeshadow-shaped eyelid marks, and three red strips on each cheekbone.
* FemmeFatalons
* FlashStep
* GameFace: She has used it as an intimidation tactic before.
* GoodIsNotNice: She might ''seem'' nicer than her brother, but she can be ruthlessly pragmatic when it comes to her goals.
* IceQueen: She's pretty cold to a lot of people, though it's mostly because she's fairly stoic unless her impatience gets the better of her.
* LadyOfWar: She fights in a full kimono and kicks ass doing it.
* NighInvulnerabls
* PoisonousPerson
* TheQuietOne
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: About two hundred.
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Sanyu's red.
* SuperStrength
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Beef ramen.
* {{Youkai}}: Taiyoukai, just like her brother.

!!!Momo
Nariko's younger half-sister, whoo ends up being the catalyst for the titular promise being fulfilled once she gets into trouble.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: What Nariko thinks of her.
* {{Courier}}: After the series proper starts, Momo is used as a messenger between Nariko and their family, both for diplomatic reasons and otherwise.
* TagalongKid

!!! Yukihana Daiyuki
A yuki-onna Team Seven meets on the mission in [[TheMovie Clash In The Land Of Snow's]] plotline, who originally shows up at Nariko's request. She's a talented young youkai, but she isn't considered an adult by most of the others.
* GuestStarPartyMember: She accompanies Team Seven into the depths of Yuki no Kuni, because she's around and no other Konoha-friendly parties are in the area.
* AnIcePerson: Comes with being a yuki-onna.
* MsFanservice
* OlderThanSheLooks: Technically, Yukihana is 47. This is young for a yuki-onna, and she appears to be about 22.
* SingleWomanSeeksGoodMan: Yukihana, as a yuki-onna who lives alone in the middle of one of the coldest inhabitable regions in the ''Manga/{{Naruto}}'' world, is looking for someone who can live with her in those conditions. Team Seven instead convinces her to follow them to Konoha, where (upon realizing that Kakashi has a girlfriend), [[IChooseToStay she finds someone to stay for.]]
* StatuesqueStunner: She's about 182 cm tall, or 6'1", which makes her taller than all of the women in the story and a lot of the men.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Though she sometimes reacts like a complete fangirl when the object of her affections--which used to switch often--is in sight.
* {{Youkai}}: Yuki-onna, to be specific.

!!!Ai
One of Orochimaru's oldest surviving experiments, Ai is a relatively tragic young woman who didn't really realize what she was getting into until she was already in too deep. She fights for the sake of her younger sister, who she doesn't realize is already dead.
* TheBerserker
* BodyHorror: A potent source of it since she's basically an evil Stitchpunk. The in-universe explanation is that Orochimaru tried to replicate Kakuzu's modifications and failed. She also later had one of her arms blown to pieces, along with about half of her face, which later led to her being given a Byakugan implant and an artificial arm.
* ElementalPowers: She has two implanted hearts, much like Kakuzu, which allow her to use Water and Earth Release techniques despite not being able to form hand seals.
* HandicappedBadass: She can't use hand seals because her replacement puppet arm doesn't have fingers.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: She gets offed while trying to backstab Orochimaru.
* MeaningfulName: It's a bit of a multilingual pun, but while Ai is driven by her love for her younger sister, she also has about as much in the way of emotions as HAL, an AI.
* RocketPunch: With her puppet arm.
* TheVoiceless
* YouHaveFailedMe: She doesn't really care about anyone or anything other than her baby sister. When it's revealed that Orochimaru lied to her about the girl's death, she turns on him. [[RedemptionEqualsDeath It's terminal]].

[[folder:Cameos]]
!!Team Cameo/Team Kei/Team Codename
A chuunin-level kunoichi team who usually appear in the background of major events, commenting on everything they see. Their team specializes in search-and-destroy missions, though they can sometimes be called upon to work on search-and-rescue if there's a personnel shortage (to disastrous effect). They also are extremely useful during the Chuunin Exam invasion, since high explosives mesh well with extremely large, scaly targets. The three members are Kei, Asahina, and Nori.
!!!Tropes demonstrated by all three members:
* ActionGirl: All three of them.
* AmazonBrigade
* GenreSavvy: They know they're bit characters.
* GreekChorus: Though they tend not to actually break the fourth wall.
* MassOhCrap: Upon realizing that there's an invasion.
* NonuniformUniform: The only thing consistent about their outfits and those of the rest of the Konoha-nin? The fact that all of them wear a chuunin vest. Kei's is the closest to bog-standard, while Asahina's is the wildest. Nori's even has detached sleeves to go along with it. Also, each one of them wears a dark blue bracelet on one wrist.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: All three members avoid using their actual names for varying reasons. Asahina just uses her last name instead.
* PluckyComicRelief: Two of them--Asahina and Nori--are funny all of the time. Kei only joins in as their sounding board and reluctant keeper, though she can make snide remarks with the best.
* PowerTrio: With Kei as the disciplinarian, and Nori and Asahina as [[AxCrazy any]] [[MadBomber type]] [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} of crazy]]. They usually don't argue, oddly enough. This may be because Kei has such a domineering personality.
* SiblingRivalry: All of them have siblings they'd rather not deal with, from Kei and Gin's rather mild dislike of being seen together to Nori and Kuri's mutual attempted murder.
* {{Squee}}: When Asahina and Nori discover that an invasion means they can cut loose. They even d a HappyDance. [[OhCrap Kei starts praying.]]
* TrueCompanions

!!!Keisuke "Kei" Yamaguchi
-->''"You can call me Kei."''
Kei is the voice of reason, the disciplinarian, the medic, and the squad leader under most circumstances. She has a stern personality and has been known to keep teammates in line through the power of her DeathGlare alone.
* BigSisterInstinct: She has this regarding her teammates.
* BrainyBrunette
* BrilliantButLazy: She's very creative, but hates hard work.
* TheCaptain
* CloudCuckooLandersMinder
* CombatMedic: She admits that she'd much rather fight than heal. She even uses chakra scalpels as weapons if she feels she can get away with it. But when the shortage of medics becomes a problem, she's a competent-though-not-amazing team medic under pressure.
* CombatPragmatist: One of the things Kei's father taught her is that ''every'' fight is a serious one and to treat them all the same way. So, she tends not to pay attention to little things like "honor" and "common decency" when she actually has to fight.
* TheComicallySerious
* CutenessOverload: Her reaction to dogs, particularly Pakkun.
* DeadpanSnarker: Mostly toward the Konoha villagers, but often [[SelfDeprecation directed toward herself]] when other targets aren't available.
* DeathGlare: Famous for it.
* {{Determinator}}: She is incredibly stubborn when her mission goal is at stake.
* GenderBlenderName: Her parents wanted a boy first.
* NotAMorningPerson
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Kei is only the first part of her name, and she refuses to give out the rest.
%%zce* ShockAndAwe
* SiblingRivalry: Kei and her brother Gin both lead chuunin teams and are often assigned to the same missions because their specialties overlap, but neither one likes it.
* SirSwearsALot
* StraightMan: To Asahina and Nori, much to her resignation.
* SuperStrength: Courtesy of her chakra control.
* TeamDad: Depending on the situation.

!!!Ayumi Asahina
-->''"Plan? What plan?"''
Team demolition expert under Kei's command, Asahina is, if anything, the most dangerous when fighting a large group of enemies.
* BlowYouAway: Her affinity.
* CloudCuckooLander: She comes off as insane, or just as having way too much energy.
* CutenessOverload: Cats.
* DyeingForYourArt: Her hair color is never the same twice.
* FriendToAllChildren: She feeds them and then they follow her around.
* GeniusDitz: There is no way she'd ever be caught preparing her bombs the wrong way. It just won't ever happen. Also, she has an encyclopedia-level knowledge of how to bake things.
* GenkiGirl
* HavingABlast: She actually keeps extra explosives in summoning scrolls some of her many, many pockets.
* IdiotHair
* IndyPloy
* LastNameBasis: It seems to be the case, at least.
* LetsGetDangerous: Do not screw with the woman who has access to bombs that can disintegrate solid rock. She gets more serious as the situation gets worse.
* OlderThanSheLooks: She's eighteen, not thirteen.
* PlayingWithFire: She can use fire, too, but not to the same strength as wind.
* RazorWind: She can actually counter other wind techniques using her own wind blades.
* TheStrategist: Who, worryingly enough, relies on her ability to improvise.
* ThrowDownTheBomblet: She ''loves'' exploding tags. They're her favorite weapon.
* WildHair: What's a brush?

!!!Noriko "Nori" Emirigami
-->''"You can't see me!"''
The third member of the team, Nori is the stealth, infiltration, and defensive expert of the team. She doesn't like being stuck on the ground.
* BirdsOfAFeather: She and Asahina are very much alike.
* CainandAbel: Nori and her sister are usually trying to kill one another when off-duty.
* CloudCuckooLander: In a different direction than Asahina, though they have a tendency to egg each other on. Nori has a tendency to avoid touching the ground whenever possible, instead choosing to walk up and down buildings or cling to ceilings whenever she has a chance. She gets ffrom place to place by walking on washing lines or RoofHopping
* CutenessProximity: Cats, again.
* DishingOutDirt: Secondary atrategy involves sinking her opponents into fifty feet of mud.
* GeniusDitz: She knows entirely too much about human biology and poison for someone who isn't the medic, as well as animal behavior and what not to do in order to avoid being eaten by tigers.
* GenkiGirl
* HiddenDepths: Guess who killed their last fifteen targets?
* LetsGetDangerous: See above.
* MakingASplash: Her affinity, which allows her to move across large bodies of water with minimal chakra usage and a very low chance of detection.
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's less than a year younger than the others, but she looks like she's six years younger than Kei.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Nori isn't her actual name, but she prefers this one.
* PickyEater: She's a vegetarian. In the ninja world, that's ''really'' picky.
* RoofHopping: Her preferred mode of travel.
* StealthExpert: It's her team title.
** StealthHiBye
* WallCrawl: She prefers to run up and down buildings rather than use the front door.
** CeilingCling: When infiltrating places.
