!!Link/Green Link

The main character and hero of the game. The catch is that you play as four Links in these games, but his/their destiny is the same as always. With the Four Sword/s in hand/s, he/they set out to SaveThePrincess and defeat the evil double.

* AlwaysSaveTheGirl: Princess Zelda of course.
* BackToBackBadasses: When he fights alongside the other three Links.
* BashBrothers: Sometimes with the other Links, [[spoiler:Shadow Link/s]].
* TheChosenZero: In the manga, the other Links will challenge his right to be the leader.
* EleventhHourSuperpower: The Four Sword.
* ImplausibleFencingPowers
* MesACrowd
* YouAreNotAlone

!!Zelda

Princess Zelda is Link's love interest, and BarrierMaiden of the Kingdom of Hyrule. She also serves as the emotional support and inspiration for the Links.

* DesignatedVictim: No surprise here.
* DistressedDamsel: Kidnapped before the end of the opening cinematic, again! That's got to be a record.
** BadassDamsel: But she's no NeutralFemale, even being a vital part of the final battle and defeating Shadow Link.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: IncorruptiblePurePureness, associated with light, kindhearted and serves as TheHeart for the party. Oh, and she's blonde.
* TheHeart
* GuestStarPartyMember: For the FinalBattle
* IncorruptiblePurePureness
* LightEmUp: In the form of an EnergyBall
* LightIsGood: Slightly subverted in her talks with [[spoiler:Shadow Link]] in the manga. She said that [[DarkIsNotEvil darkness doesn't have to be bad]].
* MacGuffinGirl

!!Red Link

Created by the powers of the Four Sword. In the manga, Red is the childlike innocent member of the group.

* {{Adorkable}}
* TheHeart: In that he's the embodiment of Link's gentle nature.
* HeroWorshipper: To anyone who saves him from danger, unfortunately.
* {{Keet}}: Let's see. He's short, cute, cries and smiles frequently, and his tunic is a very bright red.
* ButtMonkey: He often gets hit on the head with Blue's hammer.

!!Blue Link

Created by the powers of the Four Sword. In the manga, Blue is the HotBlooded arrogant member of the group.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He always seems to end up rescuing Red Link.
* HairTriggerTemper
* HotBlooded
* TheLancer
* TallDarkAndSnarky: Only he's not so tall. Don't tell him that!

!!Violet/Vio Link

Created by the powers of the Four Sword. In the manga adaptation, Vio is TheStoic and smart guy of the group.

* CryForTheDevil: He was the first to feel sympathy for [[spoiler:Shadow Link]].
* DefrostingIceKing
* TheSmartGuy
* TheStoic

!! The Seven Maidens

These young women maintain the seal of the Four Sword that keeps Vaati sealed.

* BarrierMaiden
* DistressedDamsel: All of them.
** BadassDamsel: NeutralFemale's they are not.
* OurFairiesAreDifferent: They could transform into fairy forms to guide Link once they where freed.
* FairyCompanion
** ExpositionFairy
* MacGuffinGirl
* NoNameGiven

!The Villains

!!Vaati

Vaati is a powerful EvilSorcerer in Four Swords and Four Swords Adventure. Eventually, it's discovered that he is [[spoiler:a pawn in Ganon's master plan.]]

* BlowYouAway
* TheDragon
* EvilLaugh
* EvilSorcerer
* FacelessEye
* ThePawn
* SealedEvilInACan: He starts out sealed in the Four Sword.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: When Vaati is defeated for the (presumed) final time and the Palace of Winds is collapsing, Ganon's reaction to his defeat is disgust that Vaati is unable to defeat the four heroes.

!!Shadow Link

Link's Doppelgänger in Four Swords Adventure. His character was given more depth in the manga adaption. At first, he seemed to be Link's complete opposite. He tricks Link into retrieving the Four Sword in both the game and the manga.

* AdaptationDistillation[=/=][[AdaptationExpansion Expansion]]: The game and the manga flip-flop on these. In the game he has a whole slew of abilities, but is given no backstory. In the manga he's a fully-fleshed out character, but showcases ''none'' of the abilities he had in the game short of wielding a sword.
** Most jarring is his ability to use [[SwordBeam Sword Beams]] in the manga while the other Links can't. This is reversed in the game.
* BerserkButton: "Don't ever '''mock''' the shadows! You think they're weak and insubstantial!!"
* [[spoiler:DarkIsNotEvil]]
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: ''Like you wouldn't believe'' in the manga. In the game he's more of a generic troublemaker; in the manga he's more dangerous than the villain(s) he serves.
** The first thing he does after imprisoning the maidens and releasing Gufuu ([[DubNameChange Vaati]]) is finish running roughshod over Hyrule Castle and its Four Knights to stamp out any military resistance, even disguising himself as the real Link [[BatmanGambit so he can catch his Father off guard]] and banish him to the Dark World.
** He waits for the Links at Hyrule Castle, hoping to snuff them out while their teamwork is shaky. It ''[[CurbStompBattle nearly works]]'', [[NearVillainVictory but they're saved at the last second.]]
** He keeps tabs on the other Links constantly, either through Argghus' minions or the Dark Mirror.
** He [[FaceHeelTurn recruits Vio]] to his side to keep the Links separated. He also purposely neglects to mention to his new [[DoubleAgent "comrade"]] of the Dark Mirror's scrying ability, as well as what is apparently a replay function - which recorded Vio trying to smash the mirror. Whoops.
** When Vio's treachery is revealed, Shadow Link decides to not only dunk him in lava, but two of the Four Swords along with him. He's ''again'' [[NearVillainVictory foiled at the last second]], after which the Links wisely decide to take him down before he can pull any more stunts.
* DeadpanSnarker: In the manga.
* DemonicSpider: Any time he manifests in the air. He's invincible like this and will repeatedly drop [[OneHitKill Giant Bombs]] on you; all you can do is avoid them until you escape the area.
* EnemyToAllLivingThings: Absolutely ''anywhere'' he shows up, he proceeds to make everyone and everything miserable. The best examples are in ''Village of the Blue Maiden'' where he keeps dragging people into the DarkWorld, and in ''Kakariko Village'' where he ''nearly burns the village down''. To say nothing of the manga when he rides a [[InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons dragon]] and actually ''succeeds'' in burning a whole town down.
* EvilTwin: In the manga, it's explained that he is the literal shadow of Link given physical form.
* {{Fanon}}: Spawned a ''ton'' of it; chances are if it's not of ''OcarinaOfTime's'' Dark Link, it'll be of this one. The manga definitely helped this along.
** FoeYay: A result of said manga; fanfic writers take the idea of Shadow Link and Vio being cozy and run away with it.
* FreudianExcuse: In the manga, it's revealed that he is angry at Link for not being noticed.
* IShallTauntYou: Half of his appearances verge on this, either jumping away from Link and giggling (and [[VillainExitStageLeft fleeing]] if you fail to hit him) or causing trouble in plain sight.
* [[spoiler:JerkWithAHeartOfGold: In the manga, after Zelda tries to be nice to him and gets kidnapped AGAIN. He disguises himself as Violet/Vio and leads the others to her. When they're ambushed, he takes matters into his own hands and smashes the Dark Mirror himself, [[HeroicSacrifice knowing full well what that will do to him]] (see RedemptionEqualsDeath below).]]
* TheHeavy: Kickstarts the plot with the kidnapping of Zelda and the maidens, and proceeds to wreak havoc whenever possible afterward.
* LivingShadow
* MadBomber: Called the trope word for word by an NPC when he's dropping ''[[OneHitKill Giant]] [[ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill Bombs]]'' on the area constantly.
* MesACrowd: He's worse than the four Links in this regard.
* MoneySpider: Drops either a Big Green (100) or Big Blue (150) Force Gem upon defeat - ''all'' of them, even if they're clones.
* NoOntologicalInertia: When the real Shadow Link is slain, all the clones spontaneously die if they weren't killed already.
* PyroManiac: All the fire in ''Kakariko Villiage'' in the game is from him. The Fire Rod is also one of his most commonly used items when not in a fight; he even tries to steal one in the ''first level of the game''!
* [[spoiler:RedemptionEqualsDeath: In the manga, his breaking of the Dark Mirror causes his own death.]]
* SealedEvilInACan: In the game, he is made up of soldiers from inside the Dark Mirror.
* SlasherSmile: Has a really creepy one in the manga.
* TheStarscream: In the manga, he doesn't care for the idea of Guufu or Ganon's rule. He's beaten by the Links before his plans get off the ground however.
* TookALevelInBadass: He picks more difficult areas and gains more attacks with each successive boss fight. By the last one, he's throwing out ''hurricane spins'' like candy, and unlike Link he doesn't get dizzy from it.
* WolfpackBoss: In every boss battle with him after the first, he [[MesACrowd clones himself]] to even the odds. [[spoiler:Gets cranked UpToEleven in the last battle with him where you have to kill ''nine of him'' in a single fight.]]

!! Ganon

The {{reincarnation}} of an ancient evil who rises once again using the Trident of Power.

* BigBad
** BiggerBad: To Vaati and Shadow Link.
* BlackSheep: To the Gerudo people who expelled him from their tribe when he stole the Trident. Possibly justified, as the Hyrule Historia officially places it in the Child Timeline where the events of Twilight Princess and the failed Gerudo invasion occurred and the Gerudo did not want to repeat that tragedy again.
* BladeOnAStick
** ProngsOfPoseidon
* EvilWeapon: The Trident of Power which led the newest Ganondorf along his StartOfDarkness.
* MagicMirror: Which he used to create Shadow Link.
* ManipulativeBastard
* PigMan
