!Power Users
!!In General
* BroughtDownToNormal: Once a power user is defeated in battle, they will be disqualified from the tournament and lose their power.
* ConditionalPowers: How powers work in the story. Any given power can only activate given a certain condition inherent to said power. To list a few examples: Ueki's power to turn trash into trees requires the trash to be held in his hands, and Sano has to hold his breath to turn towels into iron.
* MagicAIsMagicA: Every single power in the story works the same way: they transform something into another thing (from physical objects such as towels into iron, to abstractions such as the power to turn ideals into reality). Additionally, all of them come with a certain condition the user has to do to activate it, such as putting their hands inside their pockets or holding their breath.
* NextTierPowerUp: How Level 2 powers work. They are the logical extension of the user's original power, and can be obtained by mastery of said power.

[[folder:Kosuke Ueki]]
!!Kōsuke Ueki (植木 耕助)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kosuke_ueki.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/RomiPark (JP), Cole Howard (EN), Ricardo Escobar (SP)

Kosuke Ueki is the main character in the series. He is in Class 1-C at Hinokuni Junior High School. Ueki's ability is given to him by Kobayashi (a.k.a. Mr. K), who is also Ueki's homeroom teacher. His level 2 power is to undo the opponent's power. He can use more than one sacred treasure weapon at the same time because of his given ability.
----
* TheAce: Before he lost his talents, he was a model student, popular with girls, and one of the track team's most athletic members.
* AllLovingHero: He spares even Robert on instinct during their fight.
* AntiMagic: [[spoiler: His Level 2 ability reverses the process of any ability.]]
* AwesomeByAnalysis: So much that once he's figured out your powers and how they work, it is pretty much an InstantWinCondition of Ueki; from that point in the fight onwards its only a matter of time before he beats your face in.
* BrilliantButLazy: His initial characterization.
* TheChewToy: Courtesy of Ai.
* ChickMagnet: Before he lost this talent. When he was this, Mori commented that every day, a girl would confess her feelings for him and he'd reject them.
* CloudCuckooLander: Even the author states that he's unpredictable.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: The moron part comes into full-throttle once the Robert's Ten arc begins.
* {{Determinator}}: Nothing can break his spirit if he's fighting to protect his friends.
* FearlessFool: Seen as this by his opponents.
* TheFool: Initially BrilliantButLazy, but eventually settles on this.
* GreenThumb: His power is to turn trash into trees, on the condition that the trash must be held in his hands to do so. Kobayashi gave Ueki this power to repair a tree he had destroyed to demonstrate his heavenly powers, but the latter [[ScrewThisImOutOfHere walked off on him]] before he could offer him the chance to switch to a more useful power, being stuck with this since. [[spoiler: [[HeartIsAnAwesomePower Its evolved Level 2 power turns out]] to be a real GameBreaker as [[AntiMagic it can negate any ability]], based on the laws of recycling[[note]]His Level 1 was based on turning "nothing"(in this case, trash) into "something", Level 2 was based on turning "something"(others' abilities) into "nothing"[[/note]].]]
* HeavySleeper: Initially which led to the belief that he was BrilliantButLazy.
%%* TheHero
* HonorBeforeReason: He uses his tree power to interfere to fight any injustice that he comes across, despite the fact that using that power on non-contestants makes him lose his talents and eventually disappear when he has no more.
* IdiotHero: He's usually not too bright, which makes his analysis skills even more amazing.
* MadeOfIron: Which causes [[spoiler: Robert]] to undergo a VillainousBreakdown.
* MeaningfulName: His surname "Ueki" (植木) can be literally translated to "planted tree", alluding to his power.
* MellowFellow: He is an unusually calm individual.
* MissingMom: It turns out that she's dead. [[spoiler: That's his human adopted mom.]] [[spoiler: Played straight with his real Celestial mom who's implied to have left his real dad after he was dropped off in the real world.]]
* MultiMeleeMaster: Most Celestial Beings can only summon one Sacred Weapon at a time. Ueki's level 2 Celestial power (not his regular level 2 ability) allows him to summon more than one or all of them at once.
* NoSenseOfDirection: In the fight against Marilyn's team, he couldn't figure out where his teammates were and ended up in other places in that area [[spoiler: until he backtracked to where he beat one of his opponents, took the scanner from him and used it to find his friends.]]
* PowerAtAPrice: Due to awakening his Sacred Weapons late into his age and after gaining his main ability, they are permanently imbued with his tree ability, making them bigger and stronger than regular Sacred Weapons. That being said, the rules of his ability also permanently applies to his Sacred Weapons, thus he can't use them on non-competitors lest he'll lose one Talent per hit.
** Down to his last two Talents, this is why he restrains from using his Sacred Weapons in ''Plus''.
* PowerGivesYouWings: [[spoiler:His second to last God power.]]
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: His first name is usually romanized to "Kosuke", although the Animax version spells it as "Kousuke" instead.
* TalkToTheFist: What Kosuke tends to do to his opponents since he doesn't want to listen to them rant.
* TeenGenius: Before he lost his intelligence. He was so smart before he lost his powers that he could take tests and get 100 percent on them while he was asleep!
* ThisLoserIsYou: {{Justified|Trope}} in that he actually is one of the [[TeenGenius smarter]] and [[TheAce athletic characters]] in the series as well as a ChickMagnet. However, [[HonorBeforeReason his sense of justice is so high]], he uses his powers on thugs often and as a result, loses all the above and becomes this. Mori and everyone around him lampshades this.
* TooDumbToFool: B.J. tried to scare him by pretending to be Robert Haydn. However, since B.J. already introduced himself as B.J. to Ueki earlier that day, and Ueki did not know who Robert was at that time, Ueki's reaction was simply confusion, and he kept insisting that his opponent is B.J., not Robert.
* YourDaysAreNumbered: He has the fewest talents in the series because he keeps wasting them by [[ChronicHeroSyndrome doling out justice to jerks]] and as a rule, whenever he hurts a non-God candidate with his powers, he loses a talent. Once his talents reach zero, he'll die. Mori has to keep reminding him not to use his powers but he doesn't listen.

[[folder:Ai Mori]]
!!Ai Mori (森 あい)
[[quoteright:259:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/images_24.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TomokoKawakami (JP), Lori Barnes-Smith (EN), Creator/MartaSainz (SP)

Ai Mori is one of Ueki's classmates at Hinokuni Junior High School. She discovers Ueki's power early on, coming to a rather unusual conclusion and at first believing him to be an alien. Upon learning of the competition Ueki is in, she decides to back him up, to keep him from losing all his talents and disappearing because of it.
----
* BadassNormal: For half of the series before she got her powers, she was able to hold her own in battle by outsmarting many of the villains.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Her introduction marks her as a bit of a {{Cloudcuckoolander}}, as she stalks Ueki on the belief he was an invading alien, but over time she instead becomes the straight woman to his own quirks. She remains a bit of an oddball when hamming up, though.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Her hair and eyes are of the same color.
* DamselInDistress: Subverted. She actually doesn't need to be rescued that often and when she's threatened, she's usually knocked to the side out of danger.
* {{Fetish}}: [[spoiler:Her power forces the person to have a glasses fetish.]]
* FireForgedFriends: With Ueki, as she starts as a paranoid classmate who distrusts him and ends up becoming TrueCompanions with him and the rest.
* TheGenericGirl: Until she gets her powers.
%%* GenkiGirl
* GogglesDoNothing: Her glasses are just for reading, so she keeps them in her hair the rest of the time. [[spoiler:She also keeps a ton of them with her at any given time.]]
* HeWhoMustNotBeSeen: Barely subverted with her parents, who only make a few cameos both in the manga (as they often worry about their daughter) and anime (mainly her father goofing around).
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: When in a casual mood, Ai is usually upbeat and friendly, although she is often shown with a very shallow side, initially believing that all power-users (with the exception of Ueki) are dangerous enemies that can't be trusted. Still, Ai cares deeply for her friends, especially Ueki.
* LargeHam: Becomes one when angry, which leads Robert to taunt her for it.
* LethalChef: Subverted. Her food looks bad but tastes great.
* TheLoad: A more straight example than Hideyoshi. She has useless powers that can't help her friends out. Becomes more evident in the final battle in which all she can do is stand there and watch [[spoiler: Anom kicked the crap out of Sano and Rinko.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Mori" in kanji means "forest". "Ai" can mean "love". Thus her full name can translate to "loves (the) forest" and since Ueki makes a lot of trees...
* {{Protectorate}}: To Kosuke.
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tomboy to Rinko's girly girl.
* {{Tsundere}}: She is typically very abrasive, and only shows her softer side when things become dramatic.

[[folder:Seiichiro Sano]]
!!Seiichiro Sano (佐野 清一郎)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seiichiro_sano_2.png]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SoichiroHoshi (JP), Beau Thompson (EN), Luis Vicente Ivars (SP)

Sano can change towels into iron by holding his breath, but due to the limitations of animation, he frequently uses his power without any apparent limitations; this is especially noticeable in battle sequences.
----
* AlliterativeName: His first and last name both begin with "S".
* AwesomeByAnalysis: He can figure out a person's power very quickly. On the down side, he's knocked out before he can do anything.
* BreakTheCutie: Carpaccio tried this on Sano by [[spoiler: threatening to kill his God Candidate Inumaru that he probably saw as more than a friend by planting a bomb on his neck and if he didn't join his team, he would set it off.]] He then forces Sano to fight against his friends. While Sano [[spoiler: was trying to go around the deal by pretending to lose to Kosuke]], Capucho wouldn't fall for it and [[spoiler: then puts Mori and Rinko's life on the name as well as Inumaru. It's when Inumaru sacrifices himself to give Mori her powers and goes to Hell as a result is when he finally breaks down. Capucho then pushes his buttons by calling his friend a loser for forfeiting his chance to become God for someone like him.]] And while Kosuke stands up for him and demands to fight Capucho to take back what he said, [[spoiler: Capucho declares that Sano won the match because Kosuke finish him off and then forces Sano to watch from the audience stand as he beats up Kosuke quite a bit. At this point, it becomes obvious that this tactic worked but Sano [[PluckyGirl quickly grows out of it.]]]]
%%* TheCutie
* DistressedDude: Subverted. Kosuke assumes he's this when Inumaru claims about Robert capturing Sano but Sano clearly states he joined Robert's crew on his own free will. [[spoiler: He still needs to get out of the jam of course.]]
%%* ExactlyWhatIAimedAt
* ExtraOreDinary: Can turn towels into steel by holding his breath.
* TheLancer: To Ueki.
%%* NiceGuy
* NoodleIncident: How he got the burn on his face. All the character manual says is that he got into an accident at the hot springs.
%%* OnlySaneMan
* ParentalNeglect: This is the case for Sano's family since Sano never mentions his parents nor do they get screen time. The way he treats Wanko is more like a father than a friend and then there's the fact that [[spoiler: Sano actually doesn't live where the series take place and in the sequel, he seems to be out of the country BY HIMSELF.]]
%%* [[PluckyGirl Plucky Guy]]
* {{Protectorate}}: To Kosuke.
* ScarsAreForever: The burn on his face.
* SelectiveMagnetism: His Level 2 ability.
* ShipTease: He has a few moments with Rinko.
* WeakButSkilled: He is very creative with his attacks, like making iron springs and boomerangs.
* TheWorfEffect: He usually has to lose or get beaten up badly so Kosuke can jump in and finish the battle.

Rinko Jerrard is a 15-year-old power user who can create bombs from beads. She creates special accessories in order to use her beads in more constructive ways.
----
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Overlaps with being CuteAndPsycho in Sano's eyes.
* ButNotTooForeign: If her last name isn't a big hint.
* CuteAndPsycho: Sano thinks she's this.
* CutenessOverload: This is her major weakness. When she sees something cute, she can't attack it. However, [[BerserkButton if you set her off]], then it doesn't matter if the thing is cute. She will beat you up.
* HighHeelFaceTurn: She wasn't evil but she was planning to finish Kosuke off until he won her over to his side.
* ImportantHairCut
* LonelyRichKid: Before she met Robert.
* LoveMartyr: Was wholeheartedly devoted to Robert's goals before joining Ueki.
* MoreDakka: Her Finger Bead Cannons.
* TheOjou: Comes from a rich family, but it caused her to be ostracized by her peers.
* RocketJump: By embedding beads inside the soles of her sandals.
* ShipTease: With Sano.
* StuffBlowingUp: Can turn beads into bombs.
* TheSmartGirl: All the weapons she uses in conjunction with her powers? She made them herself!

->Voiced by: Creator/KappeiYamaguchi (JP), Chris Ippolito (EN), Creator/PepeCarabias (SP)

Hideyoshi Sōya has the ability to turn voices into portraits and can make voices come out of them. The condition is that he needs to bend his fingers or toes.
----
* AnimalStereotypes: He is commonly referred to a monkey by his friends and enemies. He even acts like a monkey and looks like one. His own Chosen profile pic is of a gorilla.
* ArtImitatesLife: Can turn voices into portraits.
%%* ButtMonkey
* ConfusionFu: His favored tactic in conjunction with his ability to turn voices into portraits.
%%* CowardlyLion
* {{Expy}}: Of Jack from ''Manga/{{MAR}}''.
* TheLoad: Hideyoshi knows he's this and prays that he never has to fight in the tournament. Luck is usually on his side.
* LoudOfWar: His ability is to turn voices into portraits, which then plays back the sound. He often uses this as an attempt of ConfusionFu.
%%* LovableCoward
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: Sengoku era general UsefulNotes/ToyotomiHideyoshi, one of the three unifiers of Japan. It could be coincidence, if not for the fact that Sōya looks like, acts like and is called a monkey. Toyotomi Hideyoshi was famously called Monkey by UsefulNotes/OdaNobunaga for his looks.
%%* PluckyComicRelief
* PromotionToParent: Or at least an older brother figure to the orphans.
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: [[spoiler:During the last battle, he abandons his friends because he knows he can't beat Anon. [[SubvertedTrope He comes back near the end because he realized he wouldn't be able to forgive himself if his friends died.]] This causes him to get knocked out by one of Kosuke's attacks, saving his life by giving him one more talent before taking down Anon.]]
* TheTrickster: In his introduction, he tricks Ueki and Mori into doing his car wash job. And that's only the tip of the iceberg.
* {{Ventriloquism}}: His ability is to turn voices into portraits. By undoing the power, the portraits turn back into voices, allowing him to make his voice come from different locations. He's especially good at using it to surprise, distract, or misdirect his opponents.
* WeakButSkilled: Though his power is next to worthless, he is good at using it to distract and confuse his enemies.

* PlayingWithFire: His power is to turn water into fire by putting it in his mouth. His firepower gets stronger if he gargles the water, and he can even use it to create fireballs.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hayao Adachi]]
!!Hayao Adachi (足立 駿夫)
->Voiced by: Creator/MotokiTakagi (JP), Brett Bauer (EN)

* FlechetteStorm: Downplayed. His power is to turn cotton into metal stakes, which he then throws at his foes. Unlike most examples, however, Adachi usually throws one or two stakes at a time, and will only throw multiple stakes at once to block opponents rather than to injure them.
* GreenEyedMonster: His fight against Ueki, apart from the fact that they are both power users, becomes personal because he is jealous towards Ueki's talent at running.

[[folder:Li Ho]]
!!Li Hō (李崩)
->Voiced by: Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (JP), Roger Rhodes (EN)

%%* TheBusCameBack: After his defeat in the first round, he returns in the third round to train Ueki.
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: His martial arts training somehow allows him to do feats that no human in real life would be able to do, such as splitting a large metal pole in two, breaking giant boulders with his head, and repeatedly turning Ueki's tree attacks into sawdust without so much as breaking a sweat.
* DisappearedDad: Li Ho's father, a famous martial artist, died from a disease when he was young. The loss inspired Li Ho to pursue martial arts as well, so that he can be as strong as his father and continue his legacy.
* FightsLikeANormal: Although he is a power user, he is never seen using his power in the story, preferring to use his martial arts skills to fight instead.
* InformedAbility: According to his God-candidate sponsor Ganji, his power (that he is never shown using) is to turn strands of his hair into a TelescopingStaff. The condition of his power is not known.
* ShoutOut: His special martial arts technique to break through boulders is called 岩窟王 ''Gankutsu'ou'' in Japanese. Although it can be literally translated to "King of the Cavern", it is also part of the Japanese title for the novel ''Literature/TheCountOfMonteCristo''; thus, the English name for his technique is called "The Count of Monte Cristo".

* AffectionateNickname: B.J. calls Ueki his "bro" (or "brother" in Japanese) due to their shared love for hip hop. Ueki returns the favor.
* BlowYouAway: His power turns coins into whirlwinds.
* CompulsiveLiar: B.J. constantly lies about his age, and during battle, he lies and tells his opponents that he's Robert Haydn, the strongest power user. Also, ever since he was a child, he would often tell tall tales to impress his peers and gain friends; unfortunately, he's often found out, causing him to lose friends anyway. His fight with Ueki, who was the only one not fooled by his "Robert Haydn" bluff, causes him to start changing his ways.
* ConfrontingYourImposter: On the receiving end of it. After repeatedly fooling everyone as "Robert Haydn", he ends up suffering defeat and serious injury at the hands of the real deal.

* AntiVillain: Robert demonstrates a sense of honor and fairness on many occasions, such as when he [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim manages to fit bracelets laced with a deadly poison onto the entire main cast, then proceeds to let them walk free when they win his little underworld game.]]
* Cassandra Truth: He told the truth, that he didn’t make or threaten his friends to stealing food. But sadly, none of the towns people listened or believed him.
* CastFromLifespan: His ability to make ideals real cuts off a year of his life per ideal used. The primary function of Robert's Ten is to do all the fighting for him so he doesn't have to use the remaining years of his life to fight.
* CreepyChild: His perpetual smiley-face is simply unsettling.
* CreepyMonotone: Which complement his looks. He only raises his voice when being extremely pissed.
* DarkAndTroubledPast[=/=]FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler:His childhood was full of abuse from both his peers and the adults, due to his Celestial powers being awakened early.]]
* DiscOneFinalBoss: Spends the first half of the series as the BigBad but after his second battle with Ueki, he begins to have doubts over his plan. Seeing this a threat to their plan, Anon eats him and takes over his place in the tournament.
* FurAndLoathing: Wears a parka in his introductory arc, and is one of the most dangerous power-users in the tournament.
* GravityMaster: His Level 2 ability, usually manifested in the form of bubbles.
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: He was considering joining up with Kosuke and the group because [[spoiler: they showed him the wonders of {{the power of friendship}}.]] Then his God candidate appears with Anom and Anom easily defeats and swallows.
