This is a character sheet for the ''Anime/TenchiMuyo'' series. And to clear the longstanding misconception, note, that as this is a series concerning royalty, the "Jurai" surname applies ''only'' to the persons formally recognized as members of the Juraian royal family and adopted by a [[BondCreatures Royal Tree]], however close they are related to each other.[[note]]Tenchi himself, not being officially recognized, spends most of the series without it, despite being a direct Heir Presumptive and a very influential and powerful WisePrince.[[/note]]

[[folder:Tenchi Masaki]]
!!Tenchi Masaki
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MasamiKikuchi (Japanese), Creator/MariMashiba (Japanese, young, ''Ryo-Ohki''), Matt K. Miller (English), Creator/ChristopherCoreySmith (English; ''GXP'' only), Carlos Carvajal (Latin-American Spanish)
[[quoteright:309:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tenchi.jpg]]

The main hero of the franchise, who is always presented as an ordinary high school student that ends up surrounded by women lusting after him as he struggles through various hijinks, and doesn't usually have much personality beyond that apart from being a nice guy.
----
* AllLovingHero: Tenchi is the gentlest, most forgiving guy in his universe, ranging from tolerating the girls' hijinks most of the time to [[spoiler: slapping and then ''embracing'' a WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds in the middle of a sobbing VillainousBreakdown.]]
* AmnesiacGod: He has lost his memory of being a god.
* AuthorAvatar: Tenchi '''Masaki''' and '''Masaki''' Kajishima. It gets more obvious when you learn that the OVA is partly a showcase of Kajishima's personal harem fantasies. And the fact that the character essentially becomes [[spoiler:stronger than the Chousin who created the universe]] is a strong hint too.
* BabiesEverAfter: While it's AllThereInTheManual, Tenchi will have several children with multiple members of his harem. It's happens officially in the 5th OVA.
* BadLiar: Sakuya calls him this in episode 10 of ''Tenchi in Tokyo'', when he went on a date with Ryoko instead of her. Tenchi tries to explain, but Sakuya says that she can tell that he was lying when his nose starts twitching.
-->'''Sakuya''' (''tearfully''): You know, you're really a lousy liar, Tenchi.
* BatmanCanBreatheInSpace: Downplayed until the third series, where it becomes clear that being able to generate Light Hawk Wings means Tenchi suffers no ill effects of exposure to hard vacuum, or presumably any other type of hostile environment. This is justified because the Light Hawk Wings are understood to be an expression of higher dimensional energy that can freely manipulate any aspect of ordinary spacetime.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: He rarely gets angry, but when he does, he will either give you a stern verbal smack down about your behavior, or he will fight you to the death.
* BookEnds: The final scene of the third film in the Tenchi Universe continuity, mirrors the one from the first film's ending, by having him and [[spoiler: Ryoko]] in the exact spot as his parents were and plays out in similar fashion: [[spoiler: Ryoko]] finds him sketching on the hill, overlooking their home and, after a brief bit of dialog, it ends with a still frame of them together (seen [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx7vG2mpyfg at 2:10-3:43).]] Which had [[spoiler: affirmed them as the official pairing]] in the TV show.
* {{Brainwashed}}: Happens to him in an episode of ''Tenchi in Tokyo'' and ''Tenchi Forever''.
* CharacterNarrator: Narrates ''Tenchi Universe'' and ''Tenchi Muyo! In Love''.
* ChasteHero: Unlike his sires, Tenchi has no perverted impulses and actively averts his eyes around naked women, even if they're trying to make him look.
* CluelessChickMagnet: Downplayed. He's aware that all of these women have the hots for him, but he honestly has ''no idea'' what these women see in him, as Tenchi considers himself average at best.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He's an average student with average grades... then it turns out he's a part-alien prince with LaserBlade-wielding powers. [[spoiler: In the Ryo-ohki {{OVA}}s, he also turns out to be a being stronger than the universe's gods!]]
* DeadpanSnarker: He has his moments, and when he does his wit has some of the sharpest barbs in the series.
* DisguisedInDrag: In ''Tenchi Universe'' when the cast try to sneak past a high security space checkpoint to reach Jurai by disguising themselves as a school tour group. Tenchi, to his embarrassment, was forced to disguise himself as a schoolgirl.
** In "Ai Tenchi Muyo" he dresses as a woman when forced to participate in a beauty pageant, when the All-Girls' school he's teaching at holds their annual school festival.
*** In no surprise he's magically more attractive as a woman than all the other competitors and his harem, who all stare in shock at him. Many of the students instantly become Fujoshis.
* EvenMoreOmnipotent: In the Ryo-ohki OVA series, where it's revealed [[spoiler:he's the entity that the Three Goddesses have been seeking -- who is as far above them as they are above mortals.]]
* ExtremeDoormat: Unfortunately, in either series, and from being such a nice guy, some people tend to take advantage him.
* FacialMarkings: In his Jurain armor.
* FlatCharacter: Played with. In most continuities, Tenchi just seems to exist as a [[CharactersAsDevice plot device]] to keep the girls together and [[DeusExMachina beat the enemy with awesome power.]] It's not really his fault as we rarely get to see things from his perspective because once the female characters show up their competition for him pretty much takes over the spotlight until it's time for him to come in and save the day. Other than those moments he is a ButtMonkey who is GenreSavvy [[MediumAwareness about being a]] FlatCharacter, "Tenchi Muyo!" roughly means "No Need For Tenchi!" much to his chagrin. This is a bit more mitigated in ''Tenchi in Tokyo'' where he has a bit more of a personality and tries to go out and live his own life without being defined by his UnwantedHarem, as well as ''Anime/TenchiUniverse''. Notably in ''Ai Tenchi Muyo'', we do see him spending more time away from his traditional UnwantedHarem but most of his time is basically [[ZigZaggedTrope occupied by the new batch of girls at the all-girls school he teaches at]].
* AFormYouAreComfortableWith: [[spoiler:Inverted in the OVA. The Choushin suppress Tenchi's godly ascension in the third series because the experience [[ThingsManWasNotMeantToKnow threatens to completely shatter his psyche]], which would be disastrous for the entire universe (and possibly the multiverse). As a result, despite having access to literal universe-warping power, Tenchi remains an ordinary human being in most respects until he is ready to ascend properly.]]
* FutureBadass: Tenchi gets sent several thousand years into the future while fighting Z and meets his future self who's able to calm the Counter-Actor down.
* GetAholdOfYourselfMan: He slaps the BigBad for manipulating him and his family to split them apart, but was done mainly to calm her down as she had been in the midst of a VillainousBreakdown. After which, he tells her that he and the others didn't hate her and would have agreed to [[spoiler: be friends with her [[CouldHaveAvoidedThisPlot had she simply asked]]]].
* GodInHumanForm: In the {{OVA}}s, Tenchi turns out to be the human avatar of the god that created all of existence in the Tenchi Muyo franchise (yes, that includes ''Anime/DualParallelTroubleAdventure'' and ''Anime/ElHazardTheMagnificentWorld''), and who is above even the Tenchiverse's three resident ''Choushin'' (lit. "[[OurGodsAreDifferent super-deities]]"). He [[AmnesiacGod has no direct memory of this]], but has recently been told about it.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: In ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo'', where he moves away from his UnwantedHarem so he can have a peaceful life away from them. Naturally, this doesn't help, and not just because of them stalking him.
* ImmortalityInducer: The [=GXP=] novels said he was that terrified of living alone forever that he subconsciously made his harem immortal.
* KidFromTheFuture: Goes back to the seventies to save his parents in ''Tenchi Muyo In Love'' in a ''Film/BackToTheFuture1'' style plot.
* MarryThemAll: [[spoiler: In episode 5 of the Ryo-Ohki from the fifth series, he has finally closed the deal with his harem such as Ryoko, Ayeka, Sasami, Washu, Mihoshi, Noike and even Ryo-ohki by marrying them.]]
* MissingMom: Kiyone (not to be confused with Kiyone Makibi) in the OVA continuity, Achika in the ''Universe'' and ''Tokyo'' continuities.
* NiceGuy: Most of the time, he's a very decent fellow. The few times he isn't, it's because the fate of his family or the universe is at stake.
* NighInvulnerability: The power Light Hawk Wings give him. Things like Kagato's attacks, black holes, and pretty much anything less than complete destruction of the universe are nothing to him. [[spoiler: However, seeing as he's a GodInHumanForm, he's actually not ''nigh'' invulnerable...]]
* NotSoWeak: Sure, he seems pretty harmless and innocent at first glance, he doesn't like fighting or hurting others, plus there's all the craziness he's subjected to by his harem. But do NOT mistake that for weakness, if Tenchi has to fight, or even kill, to protect those he cares about, HE WILL.
* SpareToTheThrone: In the OVA continuity because Yosho never actually abdicated and is still officially missing, Tenchi, with the all other Earth's Masakis, isn't officially recognized as a heir and a member of the royal family, being only a spare after his grandfather, who is the official Crown Prince. Much of the fourth series' politics is concerned about officially "finding" Yosho, thus elevating Earth Masakis to the royal status, and making Tenchi [[TheWisePrince an offical heir]].
* StoryBreakerPower: [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe As demonstrated by Z]], not only can Tenchi create the [[InfinityPlusOneSword Light Hawk Wings]], he can collapse all of reality solely by existing. Not to mention [[spoiler:he's stronger than the three beings who created the Multiverse.]] [[InvincibleHero So long, story conflict....]] OVA only, however.
* StrongAsTheyNeedToBe: His power is confirmed by Z to work exactly like this. This applies to each AlternateContinuity as well in a meta sort of way for viewers who were around during ''Tenchi''[='=]s run on ''Creator/{{Toonami}}''.
* {{Teleportation}}: Can teleport interplanetary distances in emergencies to avoid attacks while fighting Z.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the second OVA and the ''Tokyo'' series Tenchi grows somewhat more assertive in his personality and isn't as afraid to give the girls hell (especially Ryoko) when he feels they've crossed a line.
* TranquilFury: Very notable in one story in the manga where, after Washu undoes the LaserGuidedAmnesia on the gang after Minagi is able to convince the others of Washu's existence and her need for help, the first thing he does is pull her into a hug, then tell her how disappointed he is in what she did.
* UnevenHybrid: With his parents being uneven human/Juraian hybrids, Tenchi is 11/16 human, 1/16 Jurain and 1/4 Airian[[note]]On his grandmother, Airi's side[[/note]] as far as we know.
* UnluckyEverydude: He certainly thinks so. Tenchi is [[RefusalOfTheCall not particularly interested in the cosmic events that happen around him]], and dealing with all those women is a massive headache.
* TheWisePrince: In all continuities Tenchi is arguably the most calm and collected member of the household, and is a WiseBeyondTheirYears pillar around which it revolves.
* WouldHitAGirl: In the [=OVAs=] and the other continuities, Tenchi has no problems fighting Ryoko, Ayeka and the other girls in his harem even if it means they've crossed a line.

[[folder:Ryoko Hakubi]]
!!Ryoko Hakubi
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AiOrikasa (Japanese), Petrea Burchard (English; Most of the series), Creator/MonaMarshall (English; OVA 3, ''GXP''), Rosario Zamora (Latin-American Spanish)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/944290_ryoko001.jpg]]

An aggressive SpacePirate ([[ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything who often doesn't do much of anything pirate related]]) and flirt that is usually the first girl Tenchi meets. Is by far the most flirtatious and hotheaded of the girls.

Is the most popular girl amongst western audiences.
----
* ActionGirl: Ryoko is one of the more adept at fighting among the main cast, being capable of flight, swordplay, energy attacks, and super strength. Some continuities vary her strength, but in all of them, she's superhuman at the least.
* ActionGirlfriend: She is fiercely protective of Tenchi, due to her feelings for him.
* AdaptationalWimp: Like many characters from the OVA, she gets a heavy downgrade in the power-scale in the ''Universe'' and ''Tokyo'' animes. Although, perhaps in a bit of a subversion, she's less often [[TheWorfEffect worfed]] in those continuities.
* AnimalMotifs: Has a catlike tail and eyes, and a few feline traits, such as scratching at Tenchi's door when she wants his attention.
* AntiHero: Mellowing over time.
* ArtificialHuman: In the 11th episode of the OVA continuity, Washu reveals that she created Ryoko by using her own egg cells and DNA from the Massus[[note]]a type of blob-like shapeshifting lifeform, that's nigh indestructible and potentially very dangerous[[/note]]. Prior to that, Kagato said she was merely a "prototype" he had helped Washu create. And Funaho eventually came to Earth so she could personally request that [[spoiler: Washu mass produce clones of Ryoko to strengthen Jurai's military]]. Washu flatly answers, "no".
* AstralProjection: Flashbacks show she had some presence as an invisible and intangible spirit just outside the shrine she was trapped in.
* BabiesEverAfter: [[spoiler: Has a daughter in Masaki Kajishima's ''Tenchi Sokuhou'' manga who seems to have similar facial features as Tenchi[[http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110320202128/tenchi/images/3/30/Rytenko.jpg]]]].
* BloodKnight: Originally, and still loves to blow things up or get a good scrap. She tended to put in severe {{Power Limiter}}s, so anybody whatsoever could pose any challenge.
* BookEnds: See the related entry in Tenchi's section.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:She briefly gets corrupted by Kagato]].
* BreakoutCharacter: She's far and away the most popular character in the entire franchise among western fans, and was the first "anime crush" for many a male fan.
* ButtMonkey: She is usually on the receiving end of physical comedy.
* [[CantHoldHisLiquor Can't Hold Her Liquor]]: In the first episode of ''Tenchi in Tokyo'', Ryoko suffers from a bad hangover after trying Washu's homebrewed sake the previous night, which was very strong.
* CassandraTruth: In the second film, her statements about Mayuka being a threat is dismissed by Tenchi at first.
* CharacterNarrator: Narrates ''Tenchi Forever''.
* ComboPlatterPowers: She has so many powers that she periodically displays new ones without anyone commenting on it.
* CuteLittleFang: In Ryo-Ohki has one.
* DamselInDistress: In the first two {{OVA}}s, by Kagato and Dr. Clay, and in the SNES game.
** Subverted in the first episode of the ''Universe'' canon, where she just plays the part in order to get Tenchi and his folks on her side.
* DeathSeeker: Implied as a part of her backstory in the OVA Continuity, as she was fully aware of Kagato's control over her, and was ''very'' self-destructive about it.
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: In the second episode, she laughs off Ayeka's initial attempts to torture her, then immediately regrets it as Ayeka simply changes methods, with more effective results.
** When Ayeka and Sasami's mother comes to visit, Ayeka explicitly warns Ryoko not to tease her for what she is about to do, which is calling her mother "Mommy". Ryoko doesn't listen, with predictable results.
* DoubleEntendre: In the second OVA episode:
-->'''Ryoko''': Now, I want your balls, please!
-->'''Tenchi''': Huh? (''grabs his groin'') No way! They're mine, and I'm gonna hang on to them!
-->'''Ryoko''': Oh, you numbskull, I meant the jewels on your sword!
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: Exaggeration, but her constant clinging to Tenchi often borders on sexual harassment.
** In the ''Mihoshi Special'' (a Tall Tale story Mihoshi told based on one of her cases, with the Tenchi-crew filling the closest roles of the participants), "Ryoko" ties "Tenchi" to her bed, proceeds to undress him, and was [[AttemptedRape about to rape him]], but she was stopped by Pretty Sammy. This is ''somewhat'' averted though, although her sexual advances are PlayedForLaughs most of the other characters are ''not'' okay with them.
* EveryoneHasStandards: In ''Tenchi in Tokyo'' she thinks that she may be a bitch, she may drink a bit too much and be quite selfish... but she will never betray anyone's trust and lie behind their backs.
* ExoticEyeDesigns: She gets catlike eyes when she transforms into one.
* FacialMarkings: While wearing her battlesuit.
* FemmeFatale: In the first few OVA episodes, before the audience learns where her affections lie.
* FirstGirlWins: At least, in the original ending of the Universe continuity with the third film (''"Tenchi Forever"''), which [[spoiler: resolved the LoveTriangle between Ryoko and Ayeka, by having Ayeka concede that Tenchi had chosen Ryoko in his heart, and made peace with it]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRoCC3lQu8s (at 6:02-6:43).]]
* GoodBadGirl: Ryoko's flirtatious, but loyal to Tenchi.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Expect to see her with a bottle of sake. Since she has the ability to instantly purge her body of any toxins, she never has to worry about a hangover... which is a good thing given that she probably drinks more alcohol in a night than a frat house does in a week.
** FrothyMugsOfWater: In the Toonami-edited version, Ryoko's sake becomes "tea," though no attempt is made to hide the fact that she's drunk.
* IntangibleMan: She can phase through solid objects effortlessly. Combining this with her personality means she frequently invades Tenchi's privacy without warning.
* IronButtmonkey: More justified in the OVA continuity, where she's capable of regenerating from anything. Interestingly, she tends more to be the one inflicting the pain in said continuity.
* {{Irony}}: In an official doujin by Masaki Kajishima, hers and Ayeka's daughters are best friends despite their mothers' intense rivalry.
* ItsPersonal: After awakening for the first time in the OVA continuity, Ryoko decides to exact revenge on the one who sealed her in the first place.
* JerkassHasAPoint: In the second film, Ryoko's instincts alerted her to the fact that Mayuka was a threat to Tenchi's life, leading her to his bedroom just as Mayuka had been about to take him to [[spoiler: Yazuha's realm]] in his sleep. Since the others [[CassandraTruth didn't believe her when she tried to tell them]], she took it upon herself to get rid of Mayuka by dropping her in the lake. [[spoiler: Except she had a change of heart at the last moment and saved her, then opts to leave Mayuka stranded in a tree instead]]. When Mayuka finally makes it back to the house, she retaliates by slapping Ryoko, sparking a fight between them. Tenchi walks in moments later and assumes Ryoko started it, despite her attempts to warn him about her, and slaps Ryoko to get her to stop. At that point, she resigned herself to the fact that no would believe her and leaves.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While she's generally a {{Jerkass}} in most of her appearances, Washu and mainly the merger with Zero rehabilitated her remarkably quickly.
* TheLadette: Ryoko's the most aggressive and boorish of the girls in all continuities.
* LethalChef: Her first attempt at cooking created some kind of acidic pink froth that dissolved the stove - out of what appeared to be the ingredients for vegetable soup. Later incidents tone it down, but her cooking (which involved incidents like frying fish by hurling energy bolts at them) still gets divided between the things that turn out wrong and the things that nobody gets to try. Supplementary materials say she has no sense of taste, which explains her cooking being ''bad'', but is no excuse for it being actually destructive.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: She's about as manic and pixie as girls can get (perhaps moreso, as in many continuities she's ''[[DesignerBaby engineered]]'' thus), and livens up Tenchi's life in a way he quickly becomes addicted to, but also demonstrates a LogicalWeakness in [=MPDGs=]; Those lovable personality traits have [[DeconstructedTrope led her to become]] a career criminal with absolutely ''zero'' impulse control.
* MeaningfulName: While "Ryoko" is a common Japanese feminine name, the kanji that are used to spell it in this case are very uncommon. This Ryoko's name translates to ''bringer of demons.'' Its meaning is even mentioned in the OVA (subtitled as "The Devil Caller.")
* NewPowersAsThePlotDemands: She can basically do anything within scale limits, including constructing extremely advanced inventions of her mother's design out of thin air.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Lovesick, half-android, hyperintelligent, immortal demi-goddess, [[SufficientlyAdvancedAlien alien]], drunkard layabout, bratty reformed space-pirate, child-soldier slave. To be honest, in-universe descriptions of her get very inclusive and vague. The Space and Time Adventures make this even worse by selectively including and excluding various traits and associated names to suit whichever 'reality' the characters are currently in.
* {{Physical God}}dess: Not only [[LamarckWasRight her mother is one]], but she has ''crazy'' amounts of power of her own.
* PirateGirl: [[ThePiratesWhoDontDoAnything Allegedly]]. Considering her rap sheet in the OVA continuity, there may be something to that, but she's a space pirate. It's what brings Mihosi and Kiyone towards Earth once they know that Ryoko is there.
* PsychopathicWomanchild: [[MoralityPet Originally]], but she didn't have much of a choice, paid enormously for her crimes, and is much nicer nowadays, really. Just a trickster troll, but don't attack her, or threaten anybody she cares about. [[spoiler:Worse, she was aware of what she was and tried a large number of self-destructive things before being defeated by Yosho.]]
* RealityWarper: In the OVA continuity, anyway.
* SensualSpandex / LeotardOfPower: Ryoko's black and red battle outfit.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She's happy to take Tenchi with her to the hot spring.
* SpacePirate: The one trait of hers that remains consistent through the continuities.
* StoryBreakerPower: In theory, she could [[spoiler: generate up to ''ten'' Lighthawk wings - That's twice as many as Z and as much as Tsunami's ship form]] if she could master her gems, making her incalculably powerful. Even without them, her ComboPlatterPowers mean she'd be a force to be reckoned with, so she's usually not allowed to cut loose
* SuicideByCop: [[spoiler:One of the darker reasons for her limiting her powers in her backstory for the OVA continuity was because Kagato kept her under his control and she couldn't kill herself to break free.]]
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: In ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo''.
* {{Technopath}}: She can control Ryo-Ohki telekinetically, and she's been shown manipulating highly advanced machinery without using any technology.
* TeleportationWithDrawbacks: Most incarnations of Ryoko can teleport to places she has previously been to.
* TelevisionPortal: When Tennyo first arrives, Ryoko warns Tenchi by appearing on a TV screen and flying out of it.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Ayeka's girly girl, Ryoko being the feisty fighter while Ayeka is a prim princess.
* TooKinkyToTorture: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. In the second episode, she explicitly tells a flustered Ayeka that she prefers sadism over masochism, yet right after she says this, Ayeka figures out a more effective method of torturing her, which [[DoNotTauntCthulhu results in Ryoko screaming in agony and begging her to stop.]]
* UnusualEars: Her ears are elongated and square at the ends, which highlight that she isn't human.
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Ayeka, particularly in the ''Tenchi Universe'' continuity where they segue from being bitter enemies, to simply taking digs at each other. It's pretty obvious from the series' ending that, since she seemed pretty happy at the prospect of Ayeka coming back to Earth, deep down the two do consider each other friends.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: She became one with Zero, and could freely manipulate her body in extremely advanced fashions even before this, including duplication, phasing, regeneration, merging with inanimate matter, and so onwards.
* WalkOnWater: Has been known to do this, likely just levitating with her feet touching the surface.
* WhaleEgg: When Sasami first sees Ryo-Ohki's egg in the [=OVA=], she assumes Ryoko laid it. Ryoko plays ong and pretends Tenchi is the father.
* WhatYouAreInTheDark: During the fight with Kagato, she could have easily defeated him , but it would have killed Ayeka in the process. Even though this would probably not have any future negative consequences for her, she refused to do so, even though she sorely wanted Kagato dead
* [[ManChild Woman Child]]: She displays a lot of emotional immaturity and selfish behavior for an immortal being of near-cosmic power. She gets better over time, especially after merging with Zero. Still, the speed of her regression into an actual childlike state just from being locked up in a dark room for a few hours speaks volumes.
* TheWorfEffect: You can tell how powerful Kagato, Dr. Clay, and Z are because all three take her down easily (albeit in different ways). With the exception of Z, who really is just that powerful, the reason she lost is just below
** WorfHadTheFlu: We've really never seen her at her full strength, let alone her full potential strength. She only ever had all 3 genuine gems in the flashbacks to where she was attacking Jurai, and even then she was under Kagato's control and trying to limit herself purposely. This goes a long way to explain why she rarely seems to be as effective as she should be

[[folder:Ayeka Masaki Jurai]]
!!Ayeka Masaki Jurai
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YumiTakada (Japanese; from 1st OVA to 3rd OVA), Creator/HaruhiNanao (Japanese, from ''Ai Tenchi Muyo!'' onwards), Jennifer Darling (English, until ''Ai Tenchi Muyo''), Creator/RebeccaForstadt (English; ''GXP'' only), Creator/CheramiLeigh (English, ''Ai Tenchi Muyo''), Laura Orlazabal (Latin-American Spanish)
[[quoteright:323:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ayeka2.jpg]]

Princess of Jurai that has fierce rivalry with Ryoko over Tenchi, amongst other things.
----
* ActionGirl: She's not as strong as Tenchi or Ryoko, but she's able to hold her own in a physical fight if she needs to throw down.
* AlienPrincess: Is a princess of the planet, Jurai.
* BarefootCaptives: Ayeka had her footwear taken after being held hostage by Kagato near the end of Tenchi Universe.
* BarrierWarrior: Ayeka's powers tend to focus on creating barriers to shield or entrap (and then zap) others. When serious, she skips the entrapment and zapping part to ram others with her force fields. It's strong enough to disintegrate robotic drones and hallways on the Souja.
* BerserkButton: She hates being called an "old maid", or "old bag", "old witch", etc. But more than that, Ryoko ''always'' brings out the worst in her.
* BigSisterBully: Only happens once and is a pretty mild example, but episode 9 of the OVA shows a flashback from when Sasami was little in which she was trying to follow Ayeka while the latter purposely kept walking away from Sasami despite the fact that it was clearly upsetting her and she was begging Ayeka to wait for her. She falls over while running and starts to cry, at which point Ayeka stops teasing her and goes to comfort her little sister. Yes it's sweet that Ayeka rushed to Sasami's side after she fell, but she still clearly found Sasami's cries for her to stop amusing up to that point.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: In ''Anime/TenchiUniverse'' she can border on this. In the OVA she is simply a case of TheFettered. Almost maniacally attempting to manage a genetically very bad temper through excessive politeness.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: In the manga.
* BrotherSisterIncest: Ayeka was engaged to her half-brother Yosho so they wouldn't be rivals for the throne. While she was madly in love with him and was happy to be his bride, Yosho only saw Ayeka as his little sister. Incest apparently is not uncommon among the Juraian royalty, so this is never seen by any of the characters as a strange engagement.
* CovertPervert: Rarely seen, but she has her moments:
** Such as when she interrogated Ryoko, after capturing her, and noted the torture didn't seem to be working. Which made her wonder if Ryoko was a masochist. When she replies she's a sadist, Ayeka cups her face and blushes:
-->'''Ayeka: (smiles suggestively)''' "Oohh myyy... so does that mean you-?"
-->'''Ryoko: (smirks)''' "Hm...?"
-->'''Ayeka: (regains composure)''' "N-nevermind that."
** There was also the time Ryoko called her out on trying to seduce Tenchi, in episode 7:
-->'''Ryoko:''' "Well, you're trying to get him into the sack too, aren't you?"
-->'''Ayeka: (blushes, surprised)''' "What!?"
-->'''Ryoko: (smiles suggestively)''' "Well? Aren't you? It's ok, I don't mind."
-->'''Ayeka: (red faced)''' "I-I-I AM '''NOT''' '''[[AllWomenAreLustful A WOMAN OF LOOSE MORALS!!"]]'''
-->'''Ryoko: (unconvinced, smiling)''' "Really?"
-->'''*Ryoko takes a closer look at what Ayeka's wearing*'''
-->'''Ayeka: (nervously)''' "Wha-what? What is it?
-->'''Ryoko: (smug)''' "Hmm... I spy a little light makeup... a new nightie... '''(sniffs, gasps, then grins)''' Oh, I can actually smell your hormones!"
-->'''Ryoko: (imitating Ayeka)''' "My mind and body are PURE!! MAKE LOVE TO ME!!" '''(smirks)''' "That's the message you're trying to get across."
-->'''Ayeka: (blushing)''' "No! You're a liar!"
* DamselInDistress: [[RuleOfThree Three times in the manga]]. Once by [[WarriorTherapist Yakage]], another by [[SpacePirate Yataka]] and once again by [[NobleDemon Garyu]]. In the series proper, she was kidnapped by Kagato in ''Tenchi Universe''.
* DemotedToExtra: By the time of the 3rd OVA, she appears less frequently.
* FacialMarkings: In her Jurain battle armor.
* GracefulLadiesLikePurple: She has purple hair and is a proper princess. However, it's slightly cheating, since [[spoiler:WordOfGod states that her hair is actually blue and she altered it to be purple in order to attract her half-brother/fiancé Yosho.]]
* TheHighQueen: While Ayeka may have her vices and shortcomings, there's no denying her sense of nobility and strongly believes in fulfilling her royal obligations as crowned princess of Planet Jurai.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Near the end of the third and final film, Ayeka finally realizes [[spoiler: Tenchi had chosen Ryoko in his heart, and makes peace with it. Then urges Ryoko to go to him while there was still time, before the parallel world collapsed]]. Just before the final scene, when she asks if anyone's seen Tenchi, Sasami replies he was at the top of the hill and that [[spoiler: she'd seen Ryoko heading after him]]. [[GracefulLoser Ayeka simply smiles.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She's short-tempered and a prissy bitch, true, but if ''extremely'' caring and protective of those she loves (i.e. Tenchi and Sasami).
* KiManipulation: She can shoot Ki blasts out of her hands, although she rarely uses them.
* LadyDrunk: Ayeka can really put away her ''sake'', but rather than Ryoko who becomes a louder version of herself, Ayeka becomes more bitter and unladylike.
* LadyOfWar: She's able to fight with the best of them despite being a ProperLady.
* LikeMotherLikeDaughter: Not on the surface, but part of the reason she has a difficult relationship with her mother is that deep down, she's much more like Misaki than Funaho.
* TheNicknamer: She has several regarding Ryoko, with "monster-woman" and "demon" being the two she most often uses. But whenever Ryoko's being perverted, Ayeka calls her "dirt-for-brains".
* NoblewomansLaugh: In the Japanese version. The English dub, especially of ''Tenchi Universe'', does try to convey this.
* NotSoAboveItAll: As much as she tries be and wants to believe she is... she really isn't. She can be just as juvenile as Ryoko, depending on the circumstances, or [[RageBreakingPoint when she's riled up.]]
* TheOjou: She's girlish, of very royal blood and tries to be as ladylike as she can. Problem is, she has more pride and a hotter temper than she should...
* OneeSama: To Sasami.
* ParentalNeglect: Well, [[TheEmperor her father]] "had an empire to run", as they say in the UK, and as for [[ActionGirlfriend her mother]]... well, calling her CloudCuckooLander is pretty generous, to say the truth. In the end she (and Sasami) [[RaisedByGrandparents was mainly raised by]] [[TheManBehindtheMan their grandmother]].
* PrincessesPreferPink: Her usual outfit is pink colored Japanese formal wear.
* ProperLady: She tries her uttermost to maintain the decorum of a prim and proper princess, in order to set a proper example for her sister, Sasami. But Ryoko's [[{{troll}} teasing]] makes it difficult for her, to say the least.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Ayeka's eyes are red and, as stated, can be quite cruel and angry.
* SparklingStreamOfTears: In the final episode of ''Tenchi Universe''.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Either "Ayeka" or "Aeka" are acceptable, and the pronunciation is the same for both. [[note]]The "Y" was probably added to make it easier for English speakers to pronounce[[/note]]
%%%* SpoiledBrat:
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Ryoko's Tomboy.
%%* TrueBlueFemininity
* TheUnfavorite: In the OVA continuity. It's not that bad, actually, but it's still Sasami who is Seto's darling.
* VerbalTic: "-de arimasu".
* VitriolicBestBuds: With Ryoko, primarily in the ''Tenchi Universe'' continuity.
* WhipOfDominance: She may look like a ProperLady but she has a hidden [[CovertPervert perverted side]] as shown by her ImageSong "Oujosama to Oyobi" (Oft translated as "Call Me Princess") which reveals her repressed domineering desires, with the lyrics mentioning whips several times: ''Prepare yourself! Here's the whip of love! I'll correct that slackened heart of yours with force.'' as well as ''C'mon, c'mon, no. Endure this pain. Scream at each whip. Kneel and beg forgiveness.'' Notably a whip is also her primary weapon in ''Tenchi Muyo! Game Hen''.

Ayeka's younger sister, who despite being the youngest girl is generally the most mature. Is always close friends with Ryo-Ohki. [[SpinOff Starred]] in her own series, Anime/PrettySammy and its subsequent spin-offs.
----
* AlienPrincess: Is a princess of the planet, Jurai.
* ApologeticAttacker: Right before her fight scene with Mashisu, Sasami gives this thoroughly characteristic line, "I'm not just gonna stand there and let you catch me. I'm really sorry." She then proceeds to wallop Mashisu.
* BadassAdorable: She's so huggable but don't forget she's Juraian royalty and has the power that comes with the title.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: As a GP Agent finds out the hard way.
* BrattyHalfPint: Mostly {{Flanderized}} away as time passes.
* BreakoutCharacter: As the [=OVAs=] became a set of anime series, her importance grew and grew until she became the main focus in Anime/TenchiInTokyo alongside Tenchi himself. Let's not get started on the ''Anime/PrettySammy'' series where's she's the main character.
* CheerfulChild: Always upbeat.
* ChildrenDoTheHousework: She cooks and cleans for the household because Katsuhito, the closest thing to an adult there, lives in the shrine instead of in the house.
* CuteBruiser: in ''Tokyo'' where she pilots a Mini mecha.
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: Her first dream prophesies Kagato's arrival and the second tells of Tokimi's involvement with Tenchi. However, Sasami can never remember the dreams fully - even though she called out Tokimi's name in the dream, she tells Tenchi that a woman was taking her away and that she never seen her before. As well, they also tend to be very disturbing.
* {{Flanderization}}: Over the course of the OVA continuity, her precocious tendencies become an increasingly prominent aspect of her characterization. While she was always smart and mature for her age, she had a number of NotSoAboveItAll moments and sometimes acted like a BrattyHalfPint early on; these aspects of her were touched upon less frequently and eventually faded away completely.
* GirlishPigtails: Wears her long hair like this, signifying that she's the most youthful of the girls.
* GodWasMyCopilot: [[spoiler: She merged with Tsunami, of the three goddesses, in the {{OVA}}s.]]
* MoralityPet: For the BigBad in ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo''.
* NiceGirl: She's very sweet to pretty much everyone.
* NoPeriodsPeriod: Subtle mentions in {{OVA}}s 8 and 9.
* OnlySaneWoman: Arguably the most emotionally stable girl in the main harem.
* ParentalNeglect: Same with Ayeka, their parents were way too [[MarriedToTheJob busy]]/[[CloudCuckooLander crazy]] to pay them much attention, so [[MagnificentBastard Seto]] and [[FourStarBadass Utsutsumi]] [[RaisedByGrandparents had to raise them]].
* PrecociousCrush: Sasami is implied (or outright stated) to have a crush on Tenchi in just about every continuity. She manages to fulfill this trope even in the OVA despite the fact that she's mentally and physically ''[[AdorablyPrecociousChild only eight]] [[InnocentProdigy years old]].''
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Sasami is the official TropeNamer.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: While she has ''pink'' eyes, she pretty much fits this trope as some continuities put her as a CuteBruiser.
* ShyBlueHairedGirl: Averted. She's outgoing and befriended Yugi
* TeamChef: She does the Tenchi household's cooking.
* TenderTears: Sasami gets emotionally attached to everyone and cries when bad things happen to them. Such as when Tenchi is out cold in episode 4.
* ThatWomanIsDead: [[spoiler:She believes so in the OVA, since as a little girl she took a critical fall and Tsunami had to fuse with her. She believes that the real Sasami died then, and that she's just a copy created by Tsunami. In actuality she ''did'' survive, but barely. Doubles as DarkAndTroubledPast because she was terrified Ayeka wouldn't love her anymore if she knew.]]
* ThirdPersonPerson: In the Japanese version.
* TokenMiniMoe: The youngest and the cutest of the main girls.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: The youngest and the most mature member of the household.

An extremely clumsy and idiotic police officer that tends to end up chasing Ryoko. She is quite ditzy and has numerous {{running gag}}s revolving around her airheaded nature and clumsiness.
----
%%* AdaptationalDumbass: See CharacterExaggeration below.
* ArentYouGoingToRavishMe: Played as a running gag in the manga and PC-FX games, as Mihoshi's addiction to soap operas made her mistake some of Tenchi's actions as if he wanted to elope with her or just rape her. The catch? Mihoshi was more than happy with the idea, much for Tenchi's puzzlement.
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Most definitely the ''boke'' to Kiyone's ''tsukkomi''.
* BornLucky: The laws of nature and causality bend around her to such an extreme that even Washu can't predict her actions.
** The manga dedicates a full chapter to ''try'' to explain Mihoshi's weird ability to set any probability to her favor and benefit even from accidents and blunders. [[spoiler:And showed how absurdly dangerous she'd be if she could actually [[RealityWarper control it]].]]
* CharacterExaggeration: In the OVA she was a competent cop, but had been overworked to the point that she had a nervous breakdown and was forced to take a leave for her health. She'd just been reinstated when the series began, but she still wasn't back on the ball and made silly mistakes. The third OVA implies that something terrible and traumatic happened to her that caused her mental break, but nothing definite is ever pinned down. All other continuities portrayed her as a ditz from the get-go, with the understanding that she'd ''always'' been incompetent. Tenchi In Tokyo in particular pushes her towards utterly infantile-levels.
* CloudCuckoolander: She seems like a complete airhead, but manages to save the day on several occasions. This is usually the result of her [[TheFool outrageous luck]], but it's also indicated that she is much smarter than she seems... at least in the {{OVA}} continuity.
* CombatStilettos: She has them on her battle suit.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: 97% of the time, she's a sweet and simple ditz of a girl. But when the chips are really down, and especially if Kiyone is at risk, she can kick some ass.
* CuteClumsyGirl: She's pretty and sweet, but she brings whole new meaning to the term "klutz"
* DistressCall: Sends one out after she crash lands at the start of ''Anime/TenchiUniverse'' which leads Ayeka to Earth
* DumbBlonde: In most continuities. In the OVA she's more of a GeniusDitz.
* FairCop: An attractive space cop
* TheFool: In most of the franchise timelines, whenever Mihoshi does anything useful, it's just through the sheer blind luck. She's a bit better in the [=OVAs=], where she's more of a GeniusDitz rather than the complete idiot, and sometimes does surprisingly complex things on her own merit, and in the manga her blind luck is actively explained as a superpower InUniverse, but she's still a ditz all the same.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: The genuinely kindest cast member.
%%* FunPersonified
* GeniusDitz: or TheDitz, depending on the series. Usually an expression of her AmbiguousDisorder, however; she's an excellent investigator… right up until she actually gets within six feet of who she's looking for. She writes extraordinarily precise reports that often contain useful information… if one can paw through hundreds of pages of it.
* GenkiGirl: Always cheerful and full of energy, despite what damage she causes.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: In the OVA and manga, especially during the trip to Ryuten.
* HeavySleeper: Though she's also a sleepwalker. In fact, in the manga, [[spoiler: she's the one who claims Tenchi's virginity… by sleepwalking into his bed on his wedding night and making love to him in her sleep. Ayeka and Ryoko are so busy squabbling that they don't notice until after she's finished.]]
%%* HyperAwareness
* ImagineSpot: In the manga, they tend to involve some ''very'' lewd fantasies with Tenchi, which leave Mihoshi blushing and drooling, much to everyone's confusion.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: Played straight on the PC-FX and Sega Saturn videogames, where Mihoshi's clothes tend to be much more revealing and she displays little or just no concern whenever Tenchi catches her half undressed. This is especially noticeable during the hot spring scenes, where Mihoshi doesn't even bother to cover herself with a towel whenever Tenchi enters into the bath, and is cranked up to eleven on the Sega Saturn game, where Mihoshi spends a considerable amount of time and cutscenes completely nude, without thinking twice about it.
* LongevityTreatment: ''Anime/TenchiMuyoGXP'' says Galaxy Police officers all get body enhancements that let them live around 2,000 years.
* TheMillstone: Especially in ''Anime/TenchiUniverse''.
* NiceGirl: One of the sweetest of the group, surpassed only by Sasami.
* NoodleIncident: The OVA universe has several mysterious references to an incident that destroyed Mihoshi's effectiveness as a detective, leading to her being [[ReassignedToAntarctica reassigned to patrol near the Earth]] by the time she first appears.
* PhotographicMemory: Shown in 'Washu' Volume 3 of the True Tenchi Muyo Novels. She goes in to Washu's lab to call her to lunch and a weather control device malfunctions causing a very localized blizzard soon after. Washu asks Mihoshi to tell her what happened while she was looking. Two hours latter the detail Washu needs to solve the problem surfaces.
* PointyEars: She has pointed ears to show her alien origins.
* RubberForeheadAliens: Seniwans look like dark-skinned blond humans with pointy ears.
* SatelliteCharacter: In the ''Universe'' and ''Tokyo'' continuities, Mihoshi's whole purpose seems to revolve around hanging off Kiyone. Kiyone herself may fit to a lesser degree.
* SayingTooMuch: One of Mihoshi's {{running gag}}s in ''Universe'' is thoughtlessly blurting out information that embarrasses another character — usually revealing a particularly pathetic aspect of the PerpetualPoverty she and Kiyone live in.
* SheKnowsTooMuch: In episode 15 of ''Tenchi Universe'', a Juraian agent orders the Galaxy Police to capture Mihoshi and Kiyone after Mihoshi was listening to a conversation between the agent and the Galaxy Police chief, revealing that the GP was working with Jurai in order to capture Ayeka.
* SuperStrength: While Mihoshi never demonstrates it, ''Anime/TenchiMuyoGXP'' says that all Galaxy Police officers have body enhancements that give them strength several times that of a normal human.
* SuperToughness: The same body enhancements above give officers enhanced durability. Presumably a combination of this and being BornLucky makes Mihoshi near indestructible.
* TangledFamilyTree: Is Washu's great-great-granddaughter, and Ryoko's great-grandniece. She's also related to about half of the important people at the Galaxy Police thanks to being a daughter of the powerful Kuramitsu family.
* TookALevelInDumbass: In the OVA 1 she went from a ditzy but focused officer to a lazy fool that couldn't remember her own brother's name by the end of OVA 3.
** It was less that she couldn't remember his name and more that apparently her image of him is stuck on his teenaged self. He had to show a picture of him when he was younger for her to recognize him, but she recognizes other people from his crew with whom she has only occasionally interacted quite easily. Her backstory suggests her overall goofiness came about when a past DidYouJustRomanceCthulhu relationship went [[GoneHorriblyWrong Horribly Wrong]] and she only survived with this much of her mind intact because she's Washu's descendant and has the luck to make a leprechaun jealous.
** In some of the alternative universe stories, she's literally so stupid she has trouble telling the difference between left and right, up and down, etc.
* VerbalTic: "-desu".

[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/washu.jpg]]

A cheerfully neurotic mad scientist who won't do anything unless it amuses her. Fortunately for her housemates, heroism and support thereof are two things that amuse her. Unfortunately for the same, so are public humiliation, Baleful Polymorphs and S&M. Her inventions treat the laws of physics more like guidelines, and often jumpstarts plots - either due to DeusExMachina or simply because she's every bit as childish and irresponsible as her daughter Ryoko, whom she fights with almost as often as Ryoko fights with Ayeka.
----
* {{Abusive Parent|s}}: In the OVA (where she created Ryoko), she once straps Ryoko into an apparently escape-proof lab-table, turns off the lights and then runs off and hides. Ryoko is so afraid of being trapped alone in the dark that she starts crying and pleading for Washu to come back and rescue her. Washu is not only well aware of how badly this scares Ryoko, but is actually just around the corner, gleefully taping Ryoko's cries for "mommy."
* AlmostKiss: In the OVA, she attempts to seduce Tenchi in her adult form and nearly kisses him, only for Ryoko to kick her away from him.
* AnimalMotifs: Washu's signature is a happy crab. It makes sense when she wears head coverings, and her bangs take the shape of crab legs. Apparently this was meant as a connection to Kagato, whose symbol was the serpent, thus linking the two to an old Aesop's fable about a crab and a snake once being friends but eventually turning on each other when the snake refused to stop being evil.
* BrickJoke: When dealing with Dr. Clay and Zero.
-->'''Zero (disguised as Ryoko)''': If I take you to Dr. Clay, then I won't have to kill Tenchi!
-->'''Washu (having replaced herself with a doll of herself)''': What are you doing with that? I didn't know Dr. Clay went for that sort of thing! If it's a present, I can put a ribbon on it!'''
** Later, when evading Dr. Clay's CombatTentacles trap in exactly the same way...
-->'''Washu''': I even remembered the ribbon!
-->'''Dr. Clay''': *growls*
-->'''Washu''': If you give back Ryoko and leave Tenchi alone, I'll give it to you as a gift! But don't do anything indecent with it, ok?
* BrokenBird: In the OVA continuity; she's still strongly scarred from when the man she loved was forcibly forbidden from being with her [[UptownGirl due to different social standings (he was higher classed than she)]], which was made worse than they kidnapped the son (who turns out to be Mihoshi's great-grandfather) they had and refused her access to him for the rest of her life.
* CompressedHair: How does she get all that pink hair under that little green cap in episode 12, anyway?
* CrystalPrison: In the OVA, she was trapped in a huge gem placed inside a closed PocketDimension within Kagato's ship. When Mihoshi stumbles into said dimension and starts fighting a monster inside it, the energy released starts cracking the gem's surface; once the monster somehow becomes TakenForGranite (and just few inches away from poor Mihoshi), Washu is able to break free safely, crushes the petrified monster and introduces herself to Mihoshi.
* CuteBruiser: Even in her child form, she's capable of lifting a heavy chair and punching through solid concrete. In the manga, she even [[WrestlerInAllOfUs suplexes]] her EvilCounterpart. Would count as a GeniusBruiser if she was more muscular. But then again, MusclesAreMeaningless when you've got the power to shape the universe.
* DemotedToExtra: Had a diminished role in both the ''Tenchi Universe'' and ''Tenchi in Tokyo'' series, to the point where she barely had an impact in the second half of both shows until their respective finales.
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: See NaughtyNurseOutfit.
* DualAgeModes: At least in the OVA, she switches between child and adult forms.
* ForcefulKiss: She attempts to give one to Tenchi while seducing him in her adult form. She holds him by his head and tells him to just call her "Washu" from now on before leaning in to kiss him, with him freaking out and pulling away. Washu is surprised by this, before simply pulling him back more forcefully and holding him closely even as he is trembling. She gently tells him "Now now now, just close your eyes Tenchi." before slowly leaning in to kiss him again as he lets out a panicked shriek. However [[AlmostKiss Ryoko kicks Washu away from him before their lips can touch]].
* ForScience: Washu does a lot of less-than-wise things in the pursuit of scientific advancement. ''Universe'' Washu may be the most infamous, where she invents (and is implied to have ''tested'') dimension-oscillating bullets, an ozone destroyer cannon and a space/time converting tachyon ray — and is then baffled where the fact she did this is considered grounds to imprison her in a stasis capsule and exile her to a backwater part of the universe, ''then'' after being pardoned, she goes on to invent a cannon capable of destroying ''galaxies''! — but even ''OVA'' Washu has done this from time to time.
* GeniusDitz: A nice way of looking at ''Universe'' Washu; she's a scientific genius, but not very sensible. In her first episode she genetically transmutes Ayeka and Ryoko into kappas for perceived mockery. Her MadScientist antics seem to be done purely for a combination of the love of inventing without thinking of the consequences (even if she did blast three worlds with [[WaveMotionGun Wave Motion Cannons]], her cause was purely to test that they worked — she never stopped to think about the consequences except in the "break a few eggs" sense). She even has two drones in the form of SuperDeformed dolls of her that exist solely to stroke her enormous ego.
* GodWasMyCopilot: In the OVA, it turns out she's one of the three goddesses who created the universe.
* HoldingBackThePhlebotinum: Refuses to breed more Ryo-Ohki spaceships when Funaho asks, though the latter is just glad they won't be sold to Jurai's rivals.
* ImmortalImmaturity: For all of [[{{Hypocrite}} her criticism]] of [[ManChild Ryoko]], it's clear on occasion that Washu's [[JerkAss just as lacking in the maturity department if not moreso]] — and not just because of her [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld youthful disguise]].
* InsistentTerminology[=/=]TheyCallMeMisterTibbs: "No! I'm not gonna help you unless you call me Little Washu!" (Washu-Chan in the Japanese version).
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Occasionally bordering on JerkAss, but she is mostly a nice and caring, if very quirky, person.
* MadScientist: Especially in ''Tenchi Universe'', where it's [[OmnicidalManiac taken to new levels]].
* MomentKiller: In the final episode of ''Tenchi in Tokyo''. Ryoko strangles her for ruining her moment.
* NaughtyNurseOutfit: In OVA 7 for her… experiments on Tenchi. And then [[MomentKiller Mihoshi walks in the lab…]]
* OmnidisciplinaryScientist: By her own words, she's created things from Ryoko to Souja, so she has a grasp of everything from genetics to engineering. She's also good at medicine if the infamous [[HospitalHottie Nurse Washu]] scene is any indication.
** When asked why she's unable to escape from Souja, given that she created and thus should know all its weaknesses, Washu points out that her creating it is why Souja doesn't ''have'' any weaknesses to exploit.
* TheOmnipotent: In the OVA, she's [[spoiler:one of the three gods who created the omniverse and all higher dimensions as an experiment to find a being greater than themselves]].
* Really700YearsOld: Looks like a child/young teenager, but is in fact [[TimeAbyss older than all of 22-dimensional reality]].
* SheIsAllGrownUp: Looks like a teen girl, but has an adult form that is breathtakingly beautiful. [[spoiler:And her Goddess state, which is essentially her adult form with a PimpedOutDress, fits what you'd expect from a PhysicalGod(dess).]] This only applies in the OVA, whereas the child-like form seems to be her natural form in ''Tenchi Universe'' and ''Tenchi in Tokyo''.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: To both Ryoko and later Ryo-Ohki once she gains her human form. They both inherited her hairstyle.
* SuperIntelligence: She is, by far, the most intelligent character in the series.
* TrulySingleParent: Of Ryoko in the OVA, whom she created using one of her eggs and the [[http://tenchi.wikia.com/wiki/Mass Mass]], a sentient alien species.

A rabbit like alien with a cat's head and ears as long as her body that makes cat noises. As such fans refer to her as a cabbit. She is close friends with Sasami and eats nothing but carrots, and transforms into a space ship.
----
* AdaptationalLateAppearance: Only appears in a still image in the final episode of ''Ai Tenchi Muyo'', apparently left behind to take care of the house.
* [[PersonOfMassDestruction Animal of Mass Destruction]]: Her ship form is often depicted as this.
* AsteroidsMonster: Z cutting her spaceship in half caused her to hatch from her egg as two cabbits but Ryoko quickly merged them back together.
* BigEater: Tenchi often has ''fields'' of carrots just so Ryo-Ohki can eat them.
* BizarreAlienBiology: ''OVA'' Ryo-Ohki is technically Ryoko's half-sister, as both of them are based upon the genetic information of the alien lifeforms known as Mass. Ryoko simply hybridizes Mass genes with Washu's genes.
* CuteKitten [[BunniesForCuteness Bunny]]: She combines the cuteness of kittens with the cuteness of bunnies, for a massive cuteness overload.
* CuteMonsterGirl: In the OVA continuity, she learns to shapechanges into a more [[UsefulNotes/FurryFandom anthropomorphic form]]. In fact, she develops two forms; one fully mature, and one child-like, tending to use the latter so she can properly adjust to things like walking on two legs. In the adult form, she basically looks like a [[{{Catgirl}} cabbitgirl]] version of Ryoko.
* ExtremeOmnivore: In the OVA, she infamously ate Mihoshi's gun once.
* HeadPet: Ryo-Ohki likes to ride around on peoples' heads and shoulders, particularly Sasami's in the {{OVA}}s.
* InterspeciesRomance: In the manga, she eventually masters her humanoid form and marries Tenchi as well, giving birth to his triplet daughters.
* LivingShip: She's a spaceship, but she's also alive and fully sentient and sapient.
* MoonRabbit: Well Moon Cabbit. She briefly goes to live with a colony of cabbits on the moon when she's kicked out of the house in ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo''.
* MixAndMatchCritters: Which is what Ryo-Ohki (as well as Fuku and Ken-Ohki) are. Specifically, rabbits and cats (dubbed "cabbits").
* OnlyOneName: She is only referred to by her actual name.
* PrecociousCrush: Yep, she loves Tenchi, too. So much that, in the manga, she went to great lengths to learn how to walk in her adult form, just to go on a date with him. The {{OVA}}s portray this as more of a PrecociousCrush seeing as her standard form is a small child with cabbit ears.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: A fluffy little [[http://www.oocities.org/feanyx/cabbit.html cabbit]] -- a [[MixAndMatchCritters cat/rabbit hybrid]]. She also turns into a ''starship'' - a [[CoolStarship Cool one]], not a cute one, though. In ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo'', she also has a MiniMecha form. This one ''is'' cute.
* SecondaryCharacterTitle: It's not clear why her name is in the title of ''Anime/TenchiMuyoRyoOhki'' as most of the other girls have a bigger role than her.
* SelfDuplication: Her cabbit or CatGirl form can exist simultaneously as her spaceship with them seeming to be mentally linked.
* SeriesMascot: Appears on almost all Tenchi-related merchandise. She's also the reason carrots are such a recurring motif throughout the various series.
* ShapeshifterBaggage: Can transform from a cat-sized creature to a house-sized spaceship. She can also transform into several hundred cat-sized creatures, and many other things in between.
* SingleSpecimenSpecies: She seems to be the only cabbit in the main [=OVA=] continuity until Washu creates Fuku in ''Anime/TenchiMuyoGXP''. As for other continuities:
** Ryoko's rival in ''Anime/TenchiUniverse'', Nagi has a cabbit called Ken-Ohki that can also turn into a spaceship.
** There's an entire colony of them living on the moon in ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo''.
* StarCrossedLovers: In ''Tenchi Universe'' she falls in love with Ken-Ohki, who belongs to Ryoko's rival Nagi. It's their love for each other that's keeping Ryoko and Nagi from killing each other.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Carrots. She's so obsessed with them that she causes Sasami's ship to crash in ''Tenchi Universe'' by charging full-speed into it, while in ship form, after seeing on a video-link that Sasami has a carrot. Heck, she and Tenchi bonded over carrots in the OVA, since he's the one always planting and harvesting them.
* TransformingMecha: In ''Tenchi in Tokyo'', Ryo-Ohki can transform into a pink Cabbit mecha, who can move autonomously, or is piloted by Sasami.
* TrulySingleParent: Ryo-Ohki can produce eggs containing physical/mental clones of herself as a way to survive if she takes too much damage. She does this in both the OVA and ''Tenchi Universe'', and in both continuities Ryoko uses her egg to play a joke by claiming Ryo-Ohki is actually her and Tenchi's love-child.
* WhaleEgg: She hatched from an egg that came out of a crashed spaceship.

Tenchi's grandfather. A shinto priest and a skilled warrior, he is training Tenchi to follow in his footsteps. [[spoiler: He is also the crown prince of planet Jurai and, in OVA 5, the Earth's Governor General.]]
----
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: OVA-wise, he took on ''and defeated'' a 3-Gem Ryoko in single combat and sealed her. The same Ryoko who had previously curb-stomped the ''entire Jurian Military'', minus a few key players.
* CombatPragmatist: During a spar, Tenchi disarms him and celebrates, only for him to draw a dagger to his throat and lecture Tenchi that he should anticipate his opponent fighting dirty in a real fight.
* CoolOldGuy: He's a rather swell man and has quite the patience.
* CovertPervert: He once copped a feel of Ryoko and quite enjoyed it.
** He also proposed that he and Ayeka get married anyway despite being an old man at the time [[spoiler:not really]].
** In the second movie, he also tells [[spoiler: Mayuka]] that "Next time, you can take a bath with your grandpa!"
* {{Foreshadowing}}: One of the early signs that he's more than he appears occurs when he effortlessly blocks a punch from Ryoko, who's visibly puzzled by this. In [[FunnyBackgroundEvent the background of the following scene]] she demolishes the stairs with the same punch, seemingly to make sure it still works.
* KissingCousins: His first wife in the [=OVAs=] was his maternal first cousin.
* MommasBoy: Unusually strongly attached to Funaho, which even gets lampshaded in-universe. [[spoiler: It's the reason why Ayeka tried to change her hair from her mother Misaki's bright blue to a black to match Funaho's. The dye didn't take and the closest she could get was her iconic purple.]]
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Loves acting like an old geezer but is capable of training his grandsons [[spoiler:s (Tenchi and [[Anime/TenchiMuyoWarOnGeminar Kenshi]])]] to be master-level martial artists.
* OutlivingOnesOffspring: [[spoiler:He outlives his beloved daughter Achika/Kiyone, the mother of his grandson Tenchi.]]
* RetiredBadass: Not entirely by his own decision, though. [[spoiler:Funaho (his tree, not his mother, mind you) apparently took root, and thus he cannot leave Earth anymore, because Juraian royalty can remain immortal only in the range of their trees. Even then, if not for Washu's gems implanted in the Master Key, he would have died hundreds of years ago.]] In the Universe version, it's because [[spoiler:of the guilt of killing his best friend, Kagato]].
* TeamDad: When it comes down to it, the other cast members look to him for (grand)fatherly guidance.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: [[spoiler: The ''True Tenchi Muyo'' novels show him as sober and thoughtful from childhood, as a result of feeling responsible for helping his mother Funaho survive Juraian society and politics.]]
* TheWisePrince: Aside from his escape from the cutthroat atmosphere of Juraian court, he's a ''very'' reasonable guy, and after being "rediscovered" essentially serves as Earth's Governor General, overseeing its affairs in Juraian politics.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:In the OVA, he's actually very young looking, but maintains an older guise in order to blend in better]]. Averted in Tenchi Universe where he actually looks his age.

[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nobo.jpg]]

Tenchi's father, a rather well-regarded architect and one of the few relatively normal humans in the cast (except in the OVA). He serves as the perverted Id of the series, generally getting a kick out of the bevy of pretty young ladies who've come to stay in his home.
----
* BumblingDad: He's pretty much an idiot. This is taken up to 11 in ''Tenchi in Tokyo'', where its a wonder how he's still alive.
* DirtyOldMan: He likes to do perverted things to women. Less so in some versions.
* HappilyMarried: To Rhea in the 4th OVA.
* OlderThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:OVA continuity-only), where he's pushing 300.]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Subverted. He marries into the Masaki family (Katsuhito's children Achika/Kiyone and Minaho were both female) and took the surname so it wouldn't be extinguished, but he looks ''remarkably'' like his father-in-law. Katsuhito lampshades it in ''Tenchi Universe'' by saying no one would've guessed that Nobuyuki isn't related to him.
** Justified in the OVA continuity where, though he married into the Masaki family, he was the descendant of the wife Katsuhito married and then buried before marrying Airi. In other words, he is also a grandson/great-grandson of Katsuhito.
* TeamMom: Mostly in ''Anime/TenchiUniverse'' and ''Anime/TenchiInTokyo''.
* WouldHitAGirl: In one of the manga volumes, Noboyuki slaps Ryoko after she picks on Mihoshi one too many times. He then explains that Mihoshi donates her pay from her Earth jobs to cover the damages she causes with her less than perfect landings.

Ayeka's Guardians, two robots who resemble tree trunks. Only distinguishable by the colored kanji on their "faces." In the ''Universe'' continuity, they house the souls of two legendary Juraian knights, and adopt human forms towards the series end.
----
* AdaptationalBadass: One of the few characters that actually got ''stronger'' in the ''Universe'' canon, they get much more powerful knight forms, who are among the most powerful of the cast. In the OVA, they are more or less jokes.
** In ''Tenchi in Tokyo'', they are equipped with lasers, and were able to take on two Guardians who were corrupted by Yugi in episode 9.
* IDontKnowMortalKombat: In ''Tenchi Universe'', Knight!Azaka gets beaten by Sasami ''a lot''.
* OnlyOneName: They are referred to only by their first name.
* RobotBuddy: Wooden robot, but still.
* SealedGoodInACan: In the "Universe" continuity.

[[quoteright:219:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/265275.jpg]]

Formally introduced in the third OVA, Noike was chosen as Tenchi's fiancee by Lady Seto Kamiki Jurai. Ostensibly chosen as Tenchi's bride purely for political reasons, these reasons actually are spying for the Juraian government, and [[HaremNanny keeping Tenchi's potentially universe-bending harem from spiraling out of control]]. Over time, however, it seems that she's begun to develop feelings for Tenchi after all.
----
* ArrangedMarriage: Was told to be only a cover-up, but extra omake material has indeed confirmed the engagement as real.
* BerserkButton: Mihoshi. Noike will handle just about any crisis with nary a hair out of place, but the instant Mihoshi tries to sneak an extra croquette from the dinner table Noike flies into a rage.
* CompositeCharacter: Of Kiyone Makibi from the ''Universe'' and ''Tokyo'' continuities and Sakuya Kumashiro from ''Tokyo''. The responsible attitude, the partnering with Mihoshi, and the hair color all come across as Kiyone in a different body, while the relative normalcy compared to the other girls, the ArrangedMarriage subplot, and the fact that she was unknowingly manipulated from her creation to help the house's enemies are traits of Sakuya.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Besides being [[spoiler:the rejected female half of Kagato]] she's had it rough. Her mother used her in an attempt at TheBabyTrap to keep her boyfriend, going so far as to genetically alter her hair color to convince her boyfriend she was his, only to abandon her in an orphanage several years later. Luckily once Seto took her in things got a lot better.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Apparently, she [[http://tenchiforum.tumblr.com/post/97208987339/the-official-non-text-previews-for-tenchi-muyo-ryo does]].
* ExpositoryHairstyleChange: The version of Noike [[spoiler:who travels back in time to set up the StableTimeLoop in OVA 3]] [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/tenchi/images/8/89/Noike_Kamiki_Jurai.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20090911065934 has curls at the ends of her bangs]], showing how she has [[spoiler:fully merged with her younger self in the future]].
* FairCop: Was partnered with Mihoshi for a while.
* {{Foil}}: To all the main girls, ironically:
** Ryouko: Noike is a cool headed cop and nanny type to Ryouko's space pirate, loner rebel.
** Ayeka: Noike was adopted to a royal family, as opposed to Ayeka being born into one. She also doesn't act nearly as noble as Ayeka (at least initially) does.
** Sasami: Not counting chronological age, while Sasami is a little girl. (maturity-wise) with an elder, benevolent goddess that will ultimately assimilate with her inside of her, Noike is the most grownup (again, maturity-wise) member of the household with a little girl [[spoiler:female Kagato that she assimilated with, who happens to be the female half of one of the show's most notorious villains.]]
** Mihoshi: Noike was a seemingly competent cop to Mihoshi's ditzy, blundering one.
** Washu: Counting actual age, Washu is the oldest woman in the house, whereas Noike is technically the youngest. Noike also tries to reign the houses' antics in, whereas Washu throws in a little chaos here and there. Also, part of Washu's backstory has her losing her child (not voluntarily though), whereas Noike was given up by her mother for selfish reasons.
* HappilyAdopted: By Seto.
* HaremNanny: Forcibly inserted into the harem purely for her ability to keep the other girls in line. Once Noike arrived, fights between the girls died down considerably and everyone started chipping in with the chores.
* HospitalHottie: Has formal training as a nurse, and takes care of Tenchi while he's sick.
* JackOfAllTrades: Former cop, trained nurse, doting housewife, and Juraian spy.
* LastGirlWins: Politically speaking, Noike is the last girl introduced to the Harem, and the first to actually be get engaged by Tenchi (not that anybody bothered to ask his permission). Luckily for the other girls, [[MarryThemAll Jurai standards will allow them to STILL be with Tenchi, and even marry him as well when they are ready in the future.]]
* LockedIntoStrangeness: Her mother genetically altered her, resulting in her having teal or green hair, like Kiyone. Presumably it's naturally white [[spoiler:like her younger self and Kagato]].
* OppositeSexClone: In a very weird way. [[spoiler:Kagato was originally a clone of the female Naja, but absorbed a Ryoko clone and became a {{Hermaphrodite}}. He then rejected his female half which became Noike]].
* PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: She fits right in with the circus — Seto's never wrong in her [[TheMatchmaker Matchmaker]] hobby.
* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler:Her younger self, which eventually undergoes a SplitPersonality Merge with her.]]

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kiyone_masaki_ova3.jpg]]

Is the mother of Tenchi and Tennyo Masaki in the OVA verse.
----
* ActionMom: She did a lot of things according to the story she left for Tenchi. However it seems most of it was [[BlatantLies made up]].
* {{Amazingly Embarrassing Parent|s}}: When your mother creates an elaborate practical joke concerning her death and wills her relatives to read it aloud to you, she probably qualifies as this.
* BrokenPedestal: Tenchi was disappointed when he found out his mother's [[CloudCuckooLander true nature]].
* CloudCuckooLander: A surprising twist on the character. Seems to have been aggravated by her advanced age making her senile.
* CompositeCharacter: In universe, Tenchi eventually realizes that many of his memories of his mother are actually composites of the real Kiyone and his ParentalSubstitute Rhea, who effectively took over Kiyone's role after her death.
* CoolBigSis: To Rhea, who she took in without a second thought and even asked to call her such while promising to help her [[spoiler:solve her MateOrDie dilemma]].
* FaceDoodling: Is shown doing this to a sleeping Seina in a flashback.
* FormerTeenRebel: She was known to be quite a hellion as a young woman. Marrying Nobuyuki actually mellowed her a lot.
* IdenticalGrandson:
** She looks exactly like her mother Airi with [[PaletteSwap white hair]], and apparently inherits her sense of humor as well: her practical joke about her death involved ''both'' Airi and Tennyo. Rhea too, apparently.
** She's also identical to her daughter Tennyo to the point they would sometimes swap places so Tennyo could look after Tenchi.
** As a young woman she basically looked like a gender flipped Tenshi.
* MadScientist: It runs in the family. Apparently, she was no less scientifically gifted than Airi, just a bit gentler and [[CloudCuckoolander WAY more scatterbrained]]. In OVA 5 Tennyo was tasked with organizing her archives in regards to [[spoiler:Rhea's MateOrDie programming]] and bitched about her mother's lack or order incessantly.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Standard fare for Tenchi characters. She died of old age at over 200, though apparently she still had the appearance of a young woman, probably due to her Juraian ancestry. Unlike her father and sister, Kiyone didn't become bonded to a royal tree and may not have visited Jurai at all (considering Yosho was still considered MIA) which is why she died (relatively) young.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted, at least across the franchise at large. She's got the same first name as Kiyone Makibi from the ''Universe'' continuity
* PassedInTheirSleep: She died peacefully in her bed with the young Tenchi sleeping beside her.
* ThePrankster: Which even extended to a ''post mortem'' prank on Tenchi.
* WildHair: As a young woman she had incredibly spiky hair that basically made her look like a female version of her son.

Emperor of Jurai and father of Yosho, Ayeka, and Sasami in the OVA verse. While he is officially the most powerful man in the material universe, even he doesn't hold a candle to the powerful women in his life.
----
* DisproportionateRetribution: In the manga, he wants to kill a boy who had just lifted Sasami's skirt.
* TheEmperor: Of Jurai
* HenpeckedHusband: Although in name the most powerful man in the galaxy, he is absolutely terrified of the wrath of his wives and his mother-in-law.
** He's the official head of "Exasperated With Annoying Hags club", consisting mostly of Juraian royal males who like to bitch and whine about their annoying wives over the drink. His father, father-in-law, and all male progeny are also members, as well as Seina.
* PapaWolf: He's very protective of his daughters.
* {{Polyamory}}: Married both Misaki and Funaho. Though he was originally engaged to Misaki of the powerful Kamiki clan, Azusa met and fell in love with Funaho while stranded on Earth. When he returned to Jurai with his new Earthling wife, Azusa was so terrified of Lady Seto Kamiki's wrath that he married her daughter anyway. [[quoteright:815:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/funaho_half.png]]

Empress #1 of the planet Jurai and mother of Yosho in the OVA verse. Originally an Earth woman with distant ancestry that linked her to the very first Emperor of Jurai, Funaho cared for the ailing Emperor Azusa when his ship crashed on her planet. The two fell in love, and Azusa brought her back to his homeworld as his wife despite objections from the racist Juraian noble court. Funaho is a calm, collected tactician, prone to never raising her voice. She acts as the Minister of Intelligence for the whole Juraian Empire, and thus always knows more than she lets on.
----
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: She is the Minister of Intelligence for the Emperor and of Jurai. She is also partnered to the 2nd-gen tree Mizuho.
* DrunkenMaster: In the ''True Tenchi Muyo'' novels, after Ayeka and Sasami sneak away to search for Yosho, Shuzan Amaki, one of her opponents in the Imperial Family, insults her son's honor, driving her to challenge him (and Seto's husband Utsutsumi, who horns in) to a duel. She accepts the alcohol that Utsutsumi offers, grabs a [[CarryABigStick huge club]], and yells out "Come on, you motherF***er!" before demolishing both of her opponents. Early in the fight, Seto reveals that Misaki had never been able to beat Funaho while they were sparring with staves. Things escalate to the point where both Azusa and Misaki aren't able to keep her from wrecking the meeting hall the duel was taking place in. On the bright side, [[DefeatEqualsFriendship this manages to earn Funaho respect in the Imperial Family]] -- and nobody dares to offer her a drink again. This is in reference to the episode when the Jurai royalty visits Earth and Yosho [[NoodleIncident brings it up]] to get his mother to stop needling him about not contacting her.
* TheHighQueen: Her subjects adore her kind and graceful demeanor. Some of the [[BlueBlood noble class]] however...
* HimeCut: Demonstrates the classic variation, which makes sense since [[spoiler:she was born in Feudal Japan when this was the standard style for young women]]
* OnlySaneWoman: She's the most level-headed member of possibly the entire series seeing as she is the Minister of Intelligence for a galactic empire. She does have her own moments, however, but they are very few and far between.
* RagsToRoyalty: [[spoiler: From a girl living on Earth during Feudal Japan whose only real connection to the Masaki clan was being a very distant descendant[[note]]as in she's descended from the sister of Jurai's first emperor, who ended up on Earth 150,000 years ago[[/note]], to a Queen of an inter-galactic superpower.]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Doesn't mind so much that Yosho ran away from home and his duties as the Crown Prince, but he could have at least ''called her''.
* SiblingTeam: She is the 'brains' to Misaki's 'brawn', and the two consider each other sisters married to the same husband. Bonus points for their respective 2nd Gen ships also being a 'sibling team' as well.
* YamatoNadeshiko: Probably the most outright example in the whole canon. [[spoiler: It helps that she actually ''is'' Japanese.]]

Empress #2 of Jurai and Mother of Ayeka and Sasami in the OVA series and manga. While seemingly a scatterbrained, overly doting mother, everyone on their homeland seems to be terrified of her superhuman strength and unstoppable wrath. She was originally the Emperor's intended bride, as her family represented one of the most powerful noble clans in the entire Empire. However, when Azusa returned from his travels abroad with a new Earth wife in tow, he married Misaki anyway rather than face her wrath or the wrath of her mother.
----
* ActionGirlfriend: To Azusa.
* ActionMom: Natch. When she was younger, she managed to climb the insanely huge, 5 km tall Tenju tree. She's the [[AllThereInTheManual Chief Commander of the Jurai Emperor's bodyguards]], after all, and invariably snatches all martial arts championships which she can be bothered to enter.
* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: More in Ayeka's POV than Sasami's, at least in the beginning.
* ArrangedMarriage: Supplementary materials reveal Seto arranged her marriage to Azusa, despite her being a child when Azusa was already grown up.
** PerfectlyArrangedMarriage: Despite this, Azusa and Misaki seem to genuinely care for each other and the supplementary novels show they were good terms even when she was a child.
* BerserkButton: Don't insult Ayeka or Sasami in front her. Ryoko found this out the ''hard'' way.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Apparently thinks that her fling with Yosho, her ''step''son, ([[AllThereInTheManual in the novels]]) is something absolutely normal. Her [[MagnificentBastard mother]] and husband emphatically disagree.
** And there's the fact that when she first sees Ryoko in the OVA, she mistakes her for Sasami. Repeat, she mistakes a well-known criminal for her kid daughter. The only visual similarity between Sasami and Ryoko is that they both have blue hair. ''It's not even the same shade of blue.''
* DeathGlare: She gives one to Ryoko when the latter laughs at Ayeka calling her "mommy". Though, she ''also'' gives a [[https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/tenchi/images/a/a0/MisakiMad2.JPG terrifying]] one to Ayeka herself when she calls her "mother" before correcting herself and calling her "mommy".
* GodWasMyCopilot: [[spoiler:Or something in the same genre, though in this case it's less "God" and more "Chaos"]]
* MamaBear: Do not EVER mock any of her little girls in front of her. Ryoko did it in regards to Ayeka, and Misaki was MOST displeased.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Like her daughters, she has red eyes and ''you do not want to make her mad''.
* RepetitiveName: Misaki Masaki. The change in the first vowel hardly makes a difference.
* StacysMom: She was this to Yosho when he was a young man. Seto and Azusa were emphatically ''not'' okay with it and sent him to the Academy to nip it in the bud before a scandal could occur.
* StrongFamilyResemblance: She looks almost exactly like an adult Sasami, and is basically Tsunami with a different hairstyle.
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:The "Counter-Actor," which is what Misaki will become in the future after both Azusa and Funaho die, [[LoveMakesYouCrazy which apparently drives her mad with grief.]] She's powerful enough to take on the Chousin and is only stopped by the future God Tenchi showing up to calm her down]]

Introduced during the third OVA, Tennyo is the older sister of Tenchi Masaki and the current head of Masaki village council.
----
* BeautifulTears: Not her directly but she certainly thinks that a crying Tenchi was such. [[spoiler: It was enough to make her drop the act of pretending to be their mother when she saw how much Tenchi was affected by it.]] Later on, she even gushes to Airi about how cute he was.
* CoolBigSis: Once her secret is out of the bag, she wants Tenchi to immediately start calling her 'sister' in every way imaginable and is quite affectionate towards him. She also works hard to keep Airi and other more influential women away from her brother(s), knowing full well what some of them would do to him if they had the chance.
** She ''adores'' Kenshi and spends every possible opportunity to have fun with him.
* DualAgeModes: Appears either in a mid-twenties form in Jurai or Galactic Union-related circumstances, or as a 80+ granny while dealing with the Masaki village council she's a head of. Her actual age [[OlderThanTheyLook is the second figure]].
* FlatCharacter: Doesn't get much characterization, as she appears only by the end of the third OVA, and doesn't get much exposure [[AllThereInTheManual in the novels and doujinshis]] as well.
** She got fleshed out [[AllThereInTheManual in the GXP novels]], which, unfortunately, [[ContinuityLockout the fourth OVA series presupposes the viewers familiarity with]], despite them being [[NoExportForYou very obscure outside of Japan]].
** Despite being a fairly prominent member of GP, she regularly visits home since she is also the head of the Masaki Village Council which she inherited from Yosho. In other words, any Earth-born Masaki other than her grandfather, father, Tenchi, and the old woman, answer to her.
* IdenticalGrandson: She looked identical to her mother to the point they could get away with pretending to be eachother.
* ImmortalityBeginsAtTwenty: She left Earth because her peers would soon notice that she'd stopped aging and it would violate the AlienNonInterferenceClause.
* KidWithTheLeash: In the same way that Minaho is to Lady Seto, she is to her grandmother Airi in keeping the woman in check. She's the only one who can call Airi 'Grandmother' to the woman's face and doesn't care if she gets yelled at since she can keep Tenchi away from her, which falls in line with...
* [[MySisterIsOffLimits My Brother Is Off Limits]]: She doesn't care about Ayeka and Ryoko's ongoing rivalry for Tenchi, but when the more influencial women in the galaxy start setting their sights and claws onto her little brothers, she WILL put her foot down. She knows that she's not strong enough to stop any of them but they do respect her standing as Tenchi's big sister enough to knock it off when she starts going after them.
* OlderThanTheyLook: She's already in her 80's when she is formally introduced to Tenchi. She's on her way to a class reunion with some of her surviving class members when she drops by to see her brother and also introduce Noike to him.
* RememberTheNewGuy: Wasn't mentioned until the third season and Tenchi didnt even know he had a sister.
* SharedFamilyQuirks: Can't resist a good prank like the rest of the [[QuirkyHousehold Masaki clan]], but is substantially more mellow than all of them, particularly her mother and grandmother. She and Tenchi have a fairly good relationship because of it.
* SmartPeopleBuildRobots: [[spoiler:Another case of [[AllThereInTheManual "source material only"]] info. She is the one that designed the armaments to the original Kamidake. Yeah, [[Anime/TenchiMuyoGXP ''that'' Kamidake]].]]
* StrongFamilyResemblance: Looks ''exactly'' like her [[GenerationXerox mom]]. Who looks exactly like Airi [[PaletteSwap with white hair]]. Though in OVA 5 her hair for some reason becomes a significantly darker shade of grey, rather than pure white it was before.
* ThemeNaming: Shares a "ten" ("Heaven") element in her name[[note]]Which means "Heavenly Maiden".[[/note]] with her brother.

[[folder:Airi Magma Masaki]]
!!Airi Magma Masaki ([=OVA3=] and ''GXP'')
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SakikoTamagawa (Japanese), Creator/KariWahlgren (English, credited as Renee Emerson in ''GXP'')
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/002_2.jpg]]

Yosho's wife and thus Tenchi and Tennyo's grandmother, Airi is a daughter of the High Priest of the influential Three Lives church worshipping [[PhysicalGod the Choushin]], and first met Yosho when he was sent to the Galaxy Academy to let the scandal about his relationship with Misaki to die down. They've got off surprisingly well together, so Seto [[PairTheSpares decided to marry them off]] for the whole convenience. It helped that this marriage [[TheChessmaster let her sideline]] the [[TheRival powerful Airai empire]], envious of the close relationship the Juraians have with the Choushin. Airi then went to rise off through the ranks of the Galaxy Police to become the Jurai sectoral commander, and is a BFF with the Academy Superintendant Mikami Kuramitsu (not to mention Lady Seto).
----

* ActionGirlfriend: To Yosho, being the GXP sectoral commander.
* BerserkButton: Being called "grandmother", despite having two legitimate grandchildren -- only Tennyo is able to call her such without getting the infamous "shark face".
* BrilliantButLazy: OVA 4 mentions that she likes to take way too much time off, so her work tends to pile up. It also doesn't endear her to her colleagues in the slightest.
* ComedicShotacon: Her exasperation of not being able to meet all-grown-up Tenchi due to the piles of paperwork in the fourth OVA is PlayedForLaughs with the implication that she just wants to bang her own grandson.
* DatingCatwoman: Airaians are [[TheRival the bitter rivals]] of Juraians, because, as their religion worships the Choushin, they feel that the Jurai unduly grabs them all for themselves. Her marriage with Yosho is still a secret from her own people, and would be a major political bomb had it been revealed.
* GlamorousSingleMother: Subverted, since her early years with Minaho were extremely trying for both of them due to essentially being political refugees.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: The PowerTrio of the Great Princesses that basically runs the Galaxy consists of her and her best friends -- Mikami Kuramitsu and Seto Kamiki Jurai.
* [[HumanAliens Human Alien]]: Of the Airi race rather than Juraian.
* IntergenerationalFriendship: It kind of loses its edge with the essentially immortal characters, but Seto is at least a generation or two older than Airi and Mikami.
* InsufferableGenius: Yes, everyone agree that she's extremely capable, just… if only she's been less irritating. And ''did her work on time'' instead of [[BrilliantButLazy procrastinating as long as humanly possible]].
* LongDistanceRelationship: Because Yosho is essentially stranded on Earth and [[MarriedToTheJob she has a lot of responsibilities]], she can only visit him briefly from time to time. She tells Seina in the novels that because of this they have an open marriage which is why she has no issue chatting with him in the nude.
* MadScientist: To a lesser extent than Washu, but she still comes from the Academy background (and actually wears an Academy uniform, not [=GalPol=] one, during Rhea's wedding), and similar to Washu likes to engage in GuineaPigFamily, as Minaho's scars from experimental modifications testify. There's a subtle hint that [[RebelliousPrincess Kiyone]] might've ran away to Earth to be free from her mother's manipulations.
* ManicPixieDreamGirl: When she's assigned to be a young Yosho's guide at the Galaxy Academy, she goes out of her way to troll the young Juraian, especially after she becomes disappointed that he's WiseBeyondHisYears and pampered nice kid, compared to the other Juraians she's met. They bond so well that Lady Seto commands Yosho to only spend six months of each year at the Academy, to prevent him from losing his edge -- and Airi becomes sad when she realizes how much of a change going back home made to him.
* MumLooksLikeASister: It's acknowledged that due to a combination of Airi only being 19 when Minaho was born and their long lifespans that she's more like an older sister to her own daughter than a mother.
* [[NamedAfterTheirPlanet Named After Her Planet]]: Airi is also the name of her race and their home planet.
* ThePrankster: Another trait rubbed off from being a BFF with Seto -- or probably a natural one, it's hard to say. [[CloudCuckooLander Kiyone]] apparently inherited it from her.
* ShamelessFanserviceGirl: She has a great body and sees nothing wrong with flaunting it, cheerfully chatting with Seina in the nude, for example.
* SupremeChef: A trait she picked up from her close association with Lady Seto. In fact, in that little spare time she has, Airi runs an exclusive and very well-regarded restaurant at the GXP headquarters.
* TeenPregnancy: She was only 19 when she had Minaho.

Azusa's mother-in-law, the head of the arguably most powerful branch of the Jurai royal family, the Kamiki house, Seto is a sarcastic, easygoing woman with [[TheManBehindTheMan the enviable political acumen]], [[DeadpanSnarker snarky wit]] and [[SupremeChef impeccable cooking skills]] — not to mention the [[PersonOfMassDestruction impressive fighting ability]] that makes her TheDreaded among both the Jurai's enemies ''and'' its upper circles. Mihoshi's great aunt and the Headmistress of the Galaxy Police Academy, she's a true head of the influential Kuramitsu clan from the planet Seniwa, being the third one of the Three Great Princesses (in addition to Seto and Airi) [[TheManBehindTheMan who actually run the show]]. Introduced in the GXP as a [[ApronMatron solemn matriarch in her late middle age]], it was revealed in [=OVA4=] that her matronly appearance is just a disguise to hold the unruly cadets in check, and Tennyo even joked that she took the job [[ComedicShotacon only to chase after the boys]].

----

* BunnyEarsLawyer: Was shown to be a ''very'' competent administrator and teacher in ''GXP'', but revealed to be a huge HardDrinkingPartyGirl in her off-duty hours in the fourth OVA series. According to Kajishima, ''all'' Kuramitsu are actually like that, always having some eccentric quirk, and the solemn matron from the ''GXP'' was actually [[Creator/ShinichiWatanabe Nabeshin]]'s idea.
* ComedicShotacon: In a proud Kajishima's tradition of risqué sexual humor, he's found just another sleazy fetish to push onto his fans. Tennyo might've been joking about her chasing the cadets, but Mikami ''does'' have some genuine sexual interest in Seina, as revealed in the fourth OVA series, which is all PlayedForLaughs -- note that Seina is 15 years old as of the Rhea and Nobuyuki's marriage.
* DualAgeModes: [[ApronMatron A 50+ matron in her working hours]], early-thirties HardDrinkingPartyGirl off-duty.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: As revealed in the fourth OVA series, Mikami's fond of drinking alcohol like her great niece.
* OlderThanTheyLook: Both her appearances are significantly younger than her real age. Yes, even the 50+ one.

!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YuriAmano (Japanese), Creator/SherryLynn (English; Mihoshi Special, Movie 1, ''Pretty Sammy'' Ep. 1, ''Universe''), Creator/WendeeLee (English; ''Tokyo'', Movies 2-3, ''Pretty Sammy'' Eps. 2-3), Sara Pantoja (Latin-American Spanish)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tmkiyone01.jpg]]

A space cop that has the misfortune of being partners with Mihoshi, whose clumsiness continuously ruins any chances of of a promotion. While she doesn't appear in the canon OVA storylines, she is a major presence in the ''Universe'' and ''Tokyo'' timelines, becoming a full-fledged member of the harem alongside the main five girls.
----
* TheAce: Of the Galaxy Police, and of any other job she takes on. In ''Universe'', she was even shown as being exceptionally good as a BurgerFool.
* BokeAndTsukkomiRoutine: Definitely the ''tsukkomi'' to Mihoshi's ''boke.''
* TheCameo: She briefly appears in the Super Famicom game as part of Mihoshi's ultimate attack, "Brave Pal," despite the game taking place in the OVA continuity.
* CanonForeigner: She's never been a part of the canon OVA, although she's in pretty much everything else.
* CanonImmigrant: The Manga adaptation of ''Tenchi Muyo! In Love'' includes her. Ayeka and Kiyone ''lampshade'' this.
* TheChewToy: Suffers repeated misfortunes from Mihoshi that sometimes have her as a borderline Woobie.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Her eyes are a similar color to her hair
* FairCop: She's very attractive for a cop, and unlike Mihoshi, she's actually consistently competent.
* {{Flanderization}}: In ''Tenchi Universe'', Kiyone is TheAce of the Galaxy Police, consistently annoyed by Mihoshi but ultimately caring about her well-being, and wanting a promotion through her hard work and dedication to her job. In ''Tenchi in Tokyo'', her {{Jerkass}} traits were played up far more often. Kiyone's primary concern was getting a promotion in the Galaxy Police, even willing to abandon Earth and all of the friends she'd made behind for it. Also, while Mihoshi also suffered from [[TookALevelInDumbass being made even less intelligent]], Kiyone seemed like she was willing to dump Mihoshi out of the nearest airlock at any given moment. Kiyone was also made rather blunt in her manner of speaking, making her characterization go from a JerkWithAHeartOfGold into a JerkWithAHeartOfJerk.
* HaremNanny: Generally tries to keep Mihoshi's bumbling in line, and has demonstrated that she could restrain Ryoko during her more violent outbursts. She's also more dependable than the other residents in matters of finances, which becomes a factor when the group runs out of food.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: For as much as Mihoshi gets on her nerves, Kiyone is at least [[CloudcuckoolandersMinder willing to make sure she doesn't get into too much trouble]]. Mihoshi also recognizes that she'd be in a lot more trouble without Kiyone, and treats her nicely for it. This kindness eventually rubs off on Kiyone, who reciprocates.
* LongevityTreatment: ''Anime/TenchiMuyoGXP'' says Galaxy Police officers all get body enhancements that let them live around 2,000 years.
* TheNotLoveInterest: Notable in that she's one of the few female characters who is exceptionally close with Tenchi ''without'' ever becoming infatuated with him, which gives the two of them a special relationship sometimes bordering on PlatonicLifePartners, at least in ''Universe''. Kiyone falls for him in ''Tokyo'', though, stating that he'd be better off with a law-abiding citizen such as herself. At any rate, in either continuity, her job comes first.
* OnlySaneWoman: In ''Tenchi Universe'' she is by far the most down-to-earth and reasonable of the women living in the Masaki house. In ''Tokyo'', she says that if Ryoko is out of the picture, then Tenchi needs a "more stable, level-headed girl" such as herself.
* PromotedToLoveInterest: Played with in ''Tenchi in Tokyo''. When Kiyone reunites with Ryoko in space, the very idea of Kiyone becoming Tenchi's girlfriend is brought up, likely as a tactic to goad Ryoko into returning. Beyond that, Kiyone isn't shown to have any romantic or flirtatious moments with Tenchi during the course of ''Tokyo''.
* SuperStrength[=/=]SuperToughness: While Kiyone never demonstrates them, ''Anime/TenchiMuyoGXP'' says that all Galaxy Police officers have body enhancements that give them strength and durability several times that of a normal human.

A bounty hunter obsessed with capturing Ryoko.
----
* AmazonianBeauty: Only seen during the swimsuit competition. Nagi [[FlungClothing removes her cape]], followed by a montage of close-ups of her abs, thighs, and calf muscles, ending with a full-body shot of her figure. The crowd [[HeadTurningBeauty went. WILD!]] Guess who won?
%%* ArchEnemy: To Ryoko.
* BadassNormal: She has no superhuman powers like Ryoko, but she can ''still'' best her in a fight.
* BeautifulAllAlong: She's a very tough and badass bounty hunter but that doesn't mean she's not still a beautiful woman. In the BeachEpisode, she ''easily'' beat Ryoko and everyone else in a swimsuit contest. Of course Ryoko stole the prize money and fled the planet with others in tow anyway.
* BerserkButton: Do ''not'' cheat or swindle her, seriously, just don't. Ayeka learned this the hard way.
* BountyHunter: Her chosen profession. and she's real good at it too.
* CanonForeigner: She wasn't from the original OVA canon but made her debut in ''Tenchi Universe''. And to this day, she's remained a ''Universe'' exclusive character.
* DarkActionGirl: given her rivalry with Ryoko.
* TheDreaded: She's got quite the reputation, and well deserves it. Her mere implied presence is enough to make Ryoko shed ger typical attitude and become completely serious.
* EnergyWeapon: Her main weapon is a high-tech rapier made of laser, which can fire laser projectiles. Her other weapon: an energy whip that can tear the hell out of anything it makes contact with.
* FairPlayVillain: At one point, she has Ryoko completely at her mercy, but discerns that the space pirate is injured (which she confirms by jabbing Ryoko's side lightly with her scabbard, causing Ryoko to cry out in pain and collapse). Despite Ryoko's willingness to fight, Nagi opts not to take her in, seemingly wanting to defeat her [[NoChallengeEqualsNoSatisfaction "honestly" and without a handicap]].
* HeadTurningBeauty: Seen when she enters a swimsuit contest to compete with Ryoko. Not only did the judges allow for her last-minute entry, the crowd went wild when they saw [[AmazonianBeauty her figure.]] She won by a landslide vote.
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: Nagi's beef with Ryoko borders on obsession and predates the start of the series by an unspecified (albeit, presumably long) amount of time.
** She won't allow anyone else to capture, or kill Ryoko; not even [[spoiler: the Galaxy Police]]. So she helped Ryoko escape, just so ''she'' could capture her later.
** When Nagi found out Ryoko was competing in a swimsuit contest, she initially blew it off and said she'd wait 'til it was over. But the thought of anyone else beating her was too much, causing Nagi to change her mind and join the competition as a last minute entry.
* OnlyOneName: If she has a last name, its unknown
* TheRival: To Ryoko
* RoyalRapier: A high-tech version of one serves as her weapon. Its tip can even fire [[EnergyWeapon Frickin' Laser Beams]]!

* GoThroughMe: After Ryoko beats Nagi and is about to land the killing blow, he stands between the two of them angrily hissing at Ryoko, showing he won't let her kill Nagi without going through him first.
* LightIsNotGood: He has platinum blonde fur and acts as the main weapon for the merciless bounty hunter Nagi, and has probably destroyed countless spaceships in his time.
* LivingShip: Again, just like Ryo-Ohki.
* MoralityPet: He seems to be the one thing that Nagi actually cares about, to the point that he refuses to kill Ryo-Ohki, she has no choice but to accept his decision and challenge Ryoko to a one-on-one fight.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: He has blood red eyes and is also spaceship capable of destroying entire fleets of Galaxy Police ships.
* StarCrossedLovers: He and Ryo-Ohki fall in love with one another, much to Nagi and Ryoko's displeasure. In Nagi's case it's a bother for her because it means Ken-Ohki refuses to finish off Ryo-Ohki when they have her and Tenchi's friends on the ropes and Ryoko isn't crazy about Ryo-Ohki being in love with Nagi's cabbit in particular, and tells her to find someone else.

!!Mayuka (''Daughter of Darkness'')
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/JunkoIwao (Japanese), Creator/JulieMaddalena (English)
[[quoteright:270:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/52393_mayuka_large.jpg]]

A young woman who appears during the events of the second film, ''Daughter of Darkness'', claiming to be Tenchi's daughter from the future.
----
* BigBrotherAttraction: Towards Tenchi, who despite being her "father", acts much more like a protective older brother to her. The other girls are not happy about it.
* GirlishPigtails: Fitting with her childish personality.
* HalfHumanHybrid: She is formed from Tenchi [[spoiler:and Yuzuha's]] DNA.
* HighVoltageDeath: At the end of ''The Daughter of Darkness'', Mayuka gets electrocuted by [[spoiler:Yuzuha]] and dies a few minutes later.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: What's wrong with taking a bath with daddy?
* KidFromTheFuture: She shows up out of the blue one day calling Tenchi "Daddy" and forming a LaserBlade like Ryoko's (and, while inexplicably not noticed by anyone in-universe, eyes resembling Ryoko's as well), although she never explains any details, and Washu can't find the mother from her DNA. [[spoiler:Subverted -- she was created by Yuzuha, with no actual time travel involved. Tenchi and company were specifically meant to think she was a kid from the future, though.]]
* LaserGuidedTykebomb: [[spoiler:Created by Yuzuha just to kidnap Tenchi.]]
* ManchurianAgent: [[spoiler:Yuzuha is able to trigger her to take more direct action. It becomes more difficult as Mayuka's personality grows stronger from interacting with Tenchi's family.]]
%%* OnlyOneName
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: Her efforts to break free from [[spoiler:Yuzuha's]] control ultimately result in her death.
* {{Reincarnation}}: After her death, Mayuka was reborn as an infant by Washu by using Mayuka's crystal. A PhotoMontage of an infant Mayuka celebrating Christmas with the Masaki Clan is shown throughout the credits.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: A trait she shares with Ryoko, not that anyone in universe notices. [[spoiler:It's a RedHerring]].

[[folder:Minagi]]
!!Minagi (manga)
[[quoteright:200:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/minagi.gif]]

A slightly modified clone of Ryoko. The only visual differences are a pair of crescent-shaped scars on her cheeks, and a different-looking [[LaserBlade energy sword]]. Her personality is radically different, though, being far gentler and more conventionally feminine.
----
* HeelFaceTurn: After DefeatMeansFriendship.
* OnlyOneName: As she is an artificial being.
* SpannerInTheWorks: In one story of the manga, Washu inflicts LaserGuidedAmnesia on the gang after her EvilKnockoff attacks Ayeka and Sasami and threatens to do the same to Tenchi. As Washu and Ryo-Ohki are heading off to deal with said knockoff, she passes by Minagi and ignores her when she tries to talk to them. This frightens Minagi that she runs off to tell them and she's nearly driven to the DespairEventHorizon when they have no idea who she is. Thankfully, their ''emotional'' connection to Washu (and Ryo-Ohki's disappearance) is enough to listen to her and go hunt them down.
* UnusualEars: Being Ryoko's clone, she has the same long, square-ended ears.
* WeakButSkilled: Relatively speaking. While she's still far stronger than any human and most Juraians for that matter, compared to Ryoko, Minagi is weaker on account of the gems Ryoko draws power from being impossible to copy. You'd never be able to tell when they fight, though, because the centuries that Ryoko spent sealed in a cave, Minagi spent being trained by her "father," one of the most skilled swordsmen in the universe.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Devoted to Yakage and his memory, even after he's dead.

!!Shitsuki (''Tenchi Muyo! Game-Hen'')
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Mizuki Ohtsuka

A mysterious girl who appears inside the Masaki House to challenge the Masaki Clan to a fight.
----
* CanonForeigner: Shitsuki only appeared in ''Tenchi Muyo! Game-Hen''.
* TheDogBitesBack: Shitsuki begins beating up Kusumi following her final defeat for calling her "useless" and a "failure".
* HeelFaceTurn: She joins Tenchi's party after she gets betrayed by Kusumi.

[[folder:Kagato]]
!!Kagato (OVA 1 and ''Anime/{{Tenchi Universe}}'')
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NorioWakamoto (Japanese), Michael Scott Ryan (English), John Knuckey (Latin-American Spanish)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kagato.jpg]]

Kagato in the OAV is an unscrupulous and powerful scientist/sorcerer from space with ties to both Washu and Ryoko. He comes to Earth in search of the gems so he can add their power to his own, and is perfectly willing to destroy anyone that gets in his way.

In ''Tenchi Universe'', Kagato is a dark Juraian knight who was friends with Yosho, until they fought each other, and went into exile after his defeat. [[spoiler:He eventually returns and becomes the new Juraian Emperor, taking on Yosho's name, and declares that Ayeka and Sasami are traitors, forcing Tenchi and the gang to go to Jurai to confront Kagato and clear their names.]]
----

* AlienBlood: His is light blue.
* AnimalMotifs: It's more subtle than in Washu's or Clay's case, but OVA Kagato has a theme of snakes going on in his ship and even in his style of hair. The person whom he was based on, Naja, has a snake theme in her name.
* BloodKnight: The ''Universe'' version is more interested in fighting Tenchi than conquering anything close to a universe, as he's already taken over Jurai as phase one of his plot. The OVA one, while less so, does seem to enjoy the art of combat
* BlowYouAway / AnIcePerson: He can create powerful gusts of wind and it starts to snow as soon as he touches down on earth
* CainAndAbel: [[spoiler:With Yosho, in ''Tenchi Universe'', they had this big dramatic rivalry. It got nasty.]]
* CulturedBadass: His OVA version is super intelligent, well read and mannered, and just so happens to be nigh unstoppable in combat.
* DeadpanSnarker / TallDarkAndSnarky: In the OVA:
--> '''Kagato:''' [To Mihoshi] Oh my, oh my...You really frighten me. You see, I've heard much of your heroic episodes in the ''past''. Now, I hear you're overworked and your performance stinks.
** And this gem when Ayeka hurls an insult at him while trying to attack him:
--> '''Kagato:''' Is that a term of affection, or do you just not like me?
* DubNameChange: Kagato's name is changed to Kayato in the Italian dub due to an [[ToiletHumour unfortunate innuendo]] involving the character's name. Same for the Latin Spanish dub, where his name is pronounced Kahato.
* EscapedFromHell: Kagato Jurai spent some time in "The Darkness of the Universe" after his defeat at Yosho's hands, but he later comes back, even stronger.
* EvilCounterpart: To both Washu and Ryoko in the OVA. Like Washu, he's a MadScientist, only he's much more evil. Also, like Ryoko, he's a space pirate with very similar abilities, but whereas she was forced to do evil things and is a JerkWithAHeartOfGold, he's completely selfish and has no qualms about committing various atrocities.
** In ''Universe'', to both Yosho/Katsuhito and Tenchi. His Juraian Knights, Tetta and Tessei, are evil counterparts to Azaka and Kamidake, respectively. He himself is an evil version of Yosho.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Wakamoto makes this a given, and Ryan pretty much evokes Creator/ClancyBrown
* FauxAffablyEvil: Although his GracefulLoser status may make his affability more than just a front ,at least on some level.
* GeniusBruiser: He's a super genius to be sure, but he's also a very powerful combatant in his own right.
* GracefulLoser: Though moreso in the OVA. He also provides the quote on the trope's page.
* HeroKiller: [[spoiler: He kills Tenchi by blowing up Ryu-Oh's core with the Soja's weapons, to the horror of Ryoko and everyone inside Ryo-Ohki. Fortunately, [[DivineIntervention Tsunami]] brings him back [[CameBackStrong stronger than ever]], leading to Kagato's death by his hands.]]
* {{Hermaphrodite}}: Originally, but split in female and male halves. One of the more strange revelations given by OVA 3.
** AllThereInTheManual: [[ItMakesSenseInContext Makes total sense if one reads the OVA canon novel detailing his backstory.]] [[spoiler:He started out as a clone of Washu's (presumably) dead best friend, Akara Naja, who CameBackWrong and lacked Naja's playful and carefree personality. The Naja clone fused with a male Ryoko prototype, changed its name to Kagato, and the rest is history. So Kagato is the result of a female clone fusing with a male body.]] Of course, it would've been nice for OVA 3 to bring any of this up in some fashion...
* KiManipulation: He can shoot blasts of various sizes much in the same way Ryoko can, only [[SicklyGreenGlow green]]. In Universe he uses these more in the vein of a SwordBeam
* KnightOfCerebus: In the OVA, things get serious once he appears, and he represents the only real time Tenchi was at risk of dying. Clay and Z have brief moments of tension surrounding them, but they never make the same impression that Kagato did.
** His ''Universe'' version fits the trope even better. Things were fairly light hearted until he appeared... he cleanly defeats Tenchi's grandfather, kidnaps Ayeka, and gravely wounds Ryoko. From there, Tenchi is forced into a life or death struggle to rescue Ayeka and save Jurai. Azaka, Kamidake and Ryoko all seem to die [[DisneyDeath but manage to recover.]]
* LaserBlade: Like Ryoko he can form these out of thin air at his leisure. Kagato Jurai has a dark version of Tenchi's. Both versions resemble large bastard swords, to contrast those of the heroes.
* MadScientist: In the first OVA, he is a villainous scientist.
* MeaningfulName: In kanji it's basically AGodAmI, while in common Japanese it's {{Heel}}.
* OminousPipeOrgan: In the OVA. The entire back wall of his ship's throne room is an enormous pipe organ which he plays to add some atmosphere to the heroes attempts to reach him.
* OnlyOneName: Although using Juraian naming conventions, his Universe counterpart would be called Kagato Jurai. ([[{{Fanon}} and is called such by fans]])
* PsychoPrototype: He's (half of) a prototype of Ryoko, but unlike her he's a cruel bastard. He also seems to possess much the same powers as her, and he even seems to have more control and finesse with them. Though because he can't network with the 3 gems the same way she can, he's in fact less powerful
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Kagato's sword in ''Tenchi Universe''. (In the OVA it's [[SicklyGreenGlow green]].)
* ScaryShinyGlasses: In the [=OVAs=], he wears shiny glasses.
* SicklyGreenGlow: All of his energy attacks and his sword are this in the OVA, In ''Tenchi Universe'', they're RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver.
* SuperIntelligence: Likely only the Choushin are more intelligent than he is.
* {{Unperson}}: In ''Tenchi Universe'', Kagato's name was erased from Jurai's history following his first defeat at the hands of Yosho, which was why Ayeka and Sasami had never heard of him.
* VileVillainSaccharineShow: In the OVA, it’s a quirky comedy until he shows up, defeats Ryoko and kills Tenchi until he manages to revive.
** The Universe iteration plays it even more straight. The series is even LighterAndSofter than the OVA until he shows up, defeats Yosho, kidnaps Ayeka, and sets up the incredibly tense and violent finale.

[[folder:Dr. Clay]]
!!Dr. Clay (OVA 2)
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SeizoKato (Japanese), Wesley Mann (English)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tenchi_dr_clay.png]]

* AnimalMotifs: An Octopus, [[EmbarrassingNickname naturally]].
* ButtMonkey: At least to Washu, but he gets a moment where he kills his Ryoko doppelganger for disobeying him, which Washu stops joking around after witnessing.
* DirtyOldMan: Downplayed, but he has a habit of modeling key aspects of his work after attractive women. The main access terminal for his ship is designed to look like a woman, and accessing it means causing it to spread its arms to expose its nude body.
** Washu also playfully accuses him of this being the reason he wants to kidnap her. Clay vehemently denies this, though he gets flustered when Washu starts to open her top (she got pissed when he asked why he'd be interested in someone whom he "[[ACupAngst couldn't tell the front from the back]].")
* EmbarrassingNickname: He does ''not'' like it when people call him "Octopus Head."
* GalacticConqueror: Tokimi promised him his own galaxy if he brought her Washu.
* {{Gonk}}. Look at his picture. That is ''not'' an attractive man.
* HighClassGlass: Which is Ironic, as he is far from classy.
* KickTheDog: His abuse of "Zero" - an android he created, whom he eventually used to replicate Ryoko. Which had the [[GrewBeyondTheirProgramming unforeseen side effect of causing Zero to develop a conscience and feelings of her own]], as a result of assimilating Ryoko's memories and her feelings for Tenchi. Clay threatened to destroy her when she began to question his orders, and ultimately tried to kill her when she defied him because she wanted to live with Tenchi.
* KnightOfCerebus: Not so much in the OVA, but he definitely fits the bill in ''Shin Tenchi Muyo.''
* MadScientist: A more traditional version than Kagato.
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: Well, not his ''death,'' but the ''Shin Tenchi Muyo'' manga reveals that he had a backup plan in the form of the re-programmed Dark Crystal.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: For all that he's out of Washu's league, he ''does'' manage to trap Tenchi, Ayeka, and Mihoshi pretty handily. Not only that, but he's ''just'' GenreSavvy enough to install a kill-switch into his creations in case they turn on him.
** And, of course, there's his appearance in the ''Shin Tenchi Muyo'' manga, where an A.I. copy of his personality overrides Dark Washu. All bets are off once he takes the reins.
* OhCrap: Upon being ambushed by Ryo-Ohki.
* OnlyOneName: While he probably has a first name, we don't know it.
* TheRival: To Washu, or so he'd like to believe.
* SigilSpam: One of his flaws is that he likes to plaster his personal logo on things he deems important. It's how Washu knew where to look for him on his flagship.
* SmugSnake: He's far less threatening than he believes.

* BigBrotherInstinct: Well, it's hard to tell if he's older or younger than Mihoshi, but he'll definitely fight for her honor all the same.
* TheBusCameBack: Shows up again in ''GXP''.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Is often mistaken for Mihoshi if one doesn't look closely enough.
* IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Say what you will about Clay, at least he was fairly ''effective'' when all was said and done. Misao is treated as a joke from his first appearance and it only gets worse from there.
* LoveEpiphany: After becoming aware of Mashisu's feelings for him, he begins to realize his feelings of love and protection for her in turn.
* SissyVillain: Misao actually wears boots with high heels.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: He isn't anywhere ''near'' as prepared for the Masaki household as he ''thinks'' he is. Ryoko and Ryo-ohki in particular - The ''Chobimaru'' might be planet-sized, but this is a duo who single-handedly raided ''Jurai'' and managed to get away relatively clean.

* LoveMakesYouDumb: Knows that Misao's plan could lead to war with Jurai...and generally thinks that Misao is stupid...but puts up with all of that out of love for him.

!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RyuzaburoOtomo (Japanese), Michael Scott Ryan (English)
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tmlove148.jpg]]

The BigBad of ''Tenchi Muyo! in Love'', Kain is a Class A-1 intergalactic criminal who was imprisoned by the combined efforts of the Juraian Royal Family and the Galaxy Police thousands of years ago. Kain escapes from the Galaxy Police's custody, and seeks to get revenge on the Juraian Royal Family by traveling back to 1970 and kill Achika, Tenchi's mother, back when she was a high school student.
----
* AlienBlood: It's purple. How a being seemingly made out of pure energy has liquid blood is a whole other matter entirely.
* BadassBoast: He makes several. For example: "No one can withstand the power of KAIN!"
%%* BlackEyesOfEvil
* BigBad: The main antagonist of the first movie.
* ColdBloodedTorture: He enjoys inflicting this on his enemies.
* CurbStompBattle: [[spoiler:Sabato, a Special Agent of the Galaxy Police and SoleSurvivor of Kain's prison break has sworn to avenge the deaths of his colleagues and gets his chance, attacking Kain with a laser cannon. Kain, for lack of a better word, splorches him]].
* DarkIsEvil: A mass of darkness and energy. He's also dangerously psychotic.
* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:Even after being cut in half, he's still alive and it takes a galaxy-destroying device to kill him.]]
* TheDreaded: So much so that Washu considers even trying to fight him completely pointless.
* EldritchAbomination: A shapeshifting mass of darkness with a humanoid face that can warp time, the series' only truly non-human villain, and that goes for his personality as well.
* ElementalPowers: Kain displays the following:
** BlowYouAway: He can blow away people with his wind.
** AnIcePerson: Able to freeze people with his breath.
** PlayingWithFire: Can breathe fire, as if he needed anything else....
** ShockAndAwe: He can use lightning to shock anyone.
* EnergyBeing: Described as such.
* EvilSoundsDeep: He has a deep, bass voice, fitting for a BigBad.
* ImplacableMan: Gun lasers phase through him. Even Achika [[spoiler:using her full power and making mincemeat out of him]] can't completely destroy him, and in the end, he had to be hit with a galaxy-destroying cannon to finally kill him.
* KickTheDog: Torturing Nobuyuki in front of Achika was [[NiceJobFixingItVillain a bad idea]].
* KnightOfCerebus: The series' trademark humor vanishes ''completely'' when he enters the scene.
* KryptoniteFactor: Apparently Jurai energy is antithetical to Kain, as Sabato says that he thrives in its absence. [[spoiler:That, and the absence of galaxy-destroying cannons]].
* OmnicidalManiac: He's mentioned to have rampaged across the universe and doesn't appear to have any motive his actions beyond simply being evil. It gets to the point where [[SympatheticInspectorAntagonist Sabato]] puts off his SternChase of Ryoko just for him.
* OnlyOneName: Justified, as he's a living mass of dark matter.
* OneWingedAngel: Into what could be described as a black demonic dragon.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: It took the Juraian Emperor and the entire Galaxy Police fleet to capture him for the first time, and...
** To put this into perspective. Most violent criminals are wanted for assault or murder. He's wanted for destroying entire ''planets'' and hundreds of thousands of spaceships.
* SealedEvilInACan: At the start of the movie, and he breaks out of his subspace prison and lays waste to an entire fleet that tried to stop him.
%%* SmugSnake
* StoryBreakerPower: He's easily the strongest character in the ''Universe'' continuity.
* TakingYouWithMe: Does this to Achika and Nobuyuki after being sealed away again. [[spoiler: tries to do it again to Achika after being dismembered]].
* ThirdEye: Has a third, vertically-arranged eye in the middle of his forehead.
* TimeTravel: Another one of his powers.
* YouWillBeAssimilated: Intended to do this to Achika after failing to kill her.

----
* AbusiveParents: To [[spoiler:Mayuka]].
* AxCrazy: Her idea of "playing" is to cause disruption in the Masaki family household, kidnap Sasami and put Tenchi and Ryoko through a marathon battle that ends with the torture of the former.
* BigBad: The main antagonist of the second movie.
* CardCarryingVillain: Acts as one.
* CatGirl: or [[IncrediblyLamePun Bat Girl]].
* ChildEater: Turns them into diamonds to eat them.
* DarkIsEvil: Even turns into a female Chernabog in the climax.
* DefeatEqualsExplosion: She goes out in a flash of white light after [[spoiler:Tenchi uses his Light Hawk Sword to bisect her]].
* DimensionLord: She has complete control over her own dimension, right to the passage of time.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: She really did love Yosho, tearfully lamenting her failed romance with him [[spoiler:before dying]].
-->'''Yuzuha:''' "Imagine, the darkness in love with the light."
* EvilCounterpart: To at least ''four'' of the main cast:
** Washu, as a mad genius who can create life and resides in her own pocket dimension. However, whereas Washu ultimately cares for Ryoko, Yuzuha sees [[spoiler:Mayuka]] as nothing but a soulless puppet to be brainwashed and/or killed at repeated signs of disobedience.
** Ryoko, as an uninhibited demon with a crush on a Juraian prince. However, where Ryoko seems to recognize when she might be going too far, Yuzuha ultimately thinks [[ItsAllAboutMe it's all about herself.]]
** Ayeka, as someone with a childhood connection to Yosho that ultimately ended in tears.
** And finally, more directly, Tsunami - she's the spirit of Jurai's Tree of Darkness, which in this setting seems to be the counterpart to Tsunami's status as Jurai's patron deity.
* FauxAffablyEvil: She can come across as mischievous and friendly to whomever she's talking to, but that doesn't stop her from being outright malicious and showing NoSympathy for the plight she brings upon others.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Claims Juraians are the monsters because of Yosho's guards, despite the fact that she [[SweetTooth Majin]] [[ImAHumanitarian Buu'd]] three of his friends just before they first met.
* ItsPersonal: She wants to exact revenge against Yosho for the disastrous Startica festival on Jurai.
* KickTheDog: She brutally abuses [[spoiler:Mayuka]], both because she wants the girl to focus on her mission and because she's jealous of the acceptance [[spoiler:Mayuka]] receives from the Masaki residence.
* MadScientist: She has a science kit that made Makuya with Tenchi's hair, [[spoiler:she's even more abusive to her than Washu was to Ryoko.]]
* MisplacedRetribution: She pursues a vendetta against Yosho by going after Tenchi, but neither of them had anything to do with the beating she received from the Royal Guards. Yosho was just as surprised by their arrival as she was, and even begged them not to hurt her.
* MoralityChain: Strangely, [[spoiler:Mayuka]] seems to function as hers. For all the abuse she heaps on the girl, Yuzuha just as often watches [[spoiler:Mayuka's]] friendly interactions with the Masaki household with a wistful expression on her face, implying that [[spoiler:Mayuka]] represents a softer side of Yuzuha trying to get out. Tenchi even refers to [[spoiler:Mayuka]] as "the best part" of Yuzuha after [[spoiler:the latter kills her]] which causes Yuzuha to have a VillainousBreakdown and go OneWingedAngel.
* MotiveRant: Defied. When Tenchi asks what her deal is, she laughs and refuses to talk because it's "too easy."
* OffingTheOffspring: She ultimately takes this approach to [[spoiler:Mayuka]]'s disobedience.
* OnlyOneName Justified since she's the spirit of the Jurai Tree of Darkness.
* OneWingedAngel: Has one which is a blatant ShoutOut to Chernabog.
* PlayingTheVictimCard: Part of the moment when she crosses the MoralEventHorizon; [[spoiler:after killing her "daughter", she claims that she's in the right because of what Yosho's guards did to her, while mocking Tenchi and friends for grieving.]]
* PsychopathicManchild: Gender-flipped example Surrounds herself with various dolls and toys; splits much of her time between encouraging Mayuka to seed chaos in the Masaki household and enjoying their moments together by proxy; and her motivation is ultimately a childhood crush on Yosho [[WomanScorned gone wrong]].
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Though she initially seems more mischievous than malicious, her scarlet irises are a hint that she's no one to underestimate.
* ShockAndAwe: One of her powers.
%%* SmugSnake
* TragicKeepsake: She still has the berry that Yosho gave her when they first met.
* TragicVillain: It's not clear whether she ''needs'' to devour the life force of others, like she did with Yosho's friends; but if so, then she can't necessarily ''help'' being hungry. And she legitimately ''did'' seem to love Yosho, before Jurai's guards attacked her.
* TraumaButton: Fireworks. When the Masaki household start playing with them, she's initially awestruck. But then they remind her of that disastrous Startica festival and she goes berserk.
* TheTrickster: She seems just as invested as causing mischief as she is in being outright evil. Her initial reasons for sending [[spoiler:Mayuka]] to the Masaki household seem more grounded in watching the other girls freak out at the ensuing hi-jinks.
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: To Yosho.
* VillainousBreakdown: She ''snaps'' when Tenchi castigates her for killing [[spoiler:Mayuka]], her "best part," screaming that the best part of her is "already dead" before going OneWingedAngel.
* {{Yandere}}: For Yosho.

The main antagonist of ''Tenchi Forever!'', Haruna was Yosho's former lover who tragically died before their arrival on Earth.
----
* AntiVillain: In the end, she's not motivated by spite or malice, but by a crippling loneliness and an inability to accept that Tenchi and Yosho aren't the same person.
* BigBad: The main antagonist of the third film, but she is also the least violent one.
* BrokenBird: Yosho took care of her until [[spoiler:she died]].

* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: Tenchi is brainwashed by her and made to live with her as her lover. In favor of telling Ryoko and Ayeka they're no different from her, the fact that this is rape is ignored by the story.
* HannibalLecture: Towards Ryoko and Ayeka once they enter her world to try to get Tenchi back.

[[folder:Yakage]]
!!Yakage

One of Washu's former students, and a genius in the art of swordsmanship. He's behind the creation of Minagi, and sends her after Tenchi after hearing of Kagato's demise and realizing that the former might possess the power of the Light Hawk Sword.

----
* AffablyEvil: He's unflinchingly polite to the Masaki household, even when interrupting their peaceful life with his intention to fight Tenchi to the death. He even goes out of his way to genuinely praise Tenchi for his combat skills, and avoids lethal force against anyone else unless he deems it necessary to make Tenchi fight him all out.
* AntiVillain: He just wants to create the most powerful sword in the universe. His problem is that he uses extreme measures to test its power, like kidnapping Ayeka in order to bait Tenchi into fighting him. It was also implied that if they met under different circumstances [[spoiler:and not on his last life]] he would have been another ally.
* BarrierWarrior: One of his tricks is projecting spherical force shields to capture people. Another example is in his artificial Light Hawk Sword, which can project a powerful barrier that sends his opponents flying back from the sheer power output.
* BenevolentBoss: Despite putting his servant Minagi through TrainingFromHell, he otherwise treats her very kindly. [[spoiler:He's her father, after all.]]
* BloodKnight: A more restrained example than most, but he won't accept anything less than Tenchi fighting him to the death...even if that means he ends up trying to deal a killing blow to Tenchi after the latter is knocked out during their battle.
* CoolSword: His ultimate project is an artificial ''Light Hawk Sword''. In this universe, it's hard to make a cooler sword than that.
* {{Determinator}}: By the time Tenchi faces him, he's dying from [[spoiler:too much CloneDegeneration]]. That doesn't stop him from putting up the fight of his life (and Tenchi's) in their duel.
* DoubleWeapon: Thanks to his masterpiece sword, he was doing the whole double-bladed beam saber routine well before [[Film/ThePhantomMenace Darth Maul]] made it cool.
* FatherlyScientist: While he is a MadScientist who works with swords, he treats his creation Minagi like his own daughter. [[spoiler:Indeed, his ultimate goal is to give his masterpiece to ''her'' [[SecretlyDying because of his deteriorating health]].]]
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He's got a pretty vicious scar running along the middle of his face. [[spoiler:To him, it's a badge of pride he kept in memory of Minagi beating him for the first time]].
* GracefulLoser: While the sword he designed ultimately isn't able to overcome Tenchi's Light Hawk Sword, he takes in stride because [[AGoodWayToDie he gave it his all]].
--> '''Yakage''': "I've done my best as a warrior...as a scientist...there is no dishonor in such a failure!"
* IAmNotLeftHanded: When Ryoko beats him the first time, he reveals that the sword he fought her with wasn't his masterpiece, and draws his true weapon to face her. Later, when Tenchi finally reveals his Light Hawk Sword, Yakage reveals that his artificial Light Hawk Sword can produce ''two'' blades at once.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: By the time Tenchi comes after him, he suffers from bad coughing fits and BloodFromTheMouth. [[spoiler:This is because he's hit the limits of his CloneDegeneration, and he's on his last life]].
* TheLastDance: He's SecretlyDying, and wants to go out testing his ultimate creation in a fight to the death.
* MadScientist: While he doesn't engage in theatrics like Kagato, he's one of Washu's students as well, and goes to extremes to realize his life's work.
* MasterSwordsman: He doesn't just ''design'' swords - he knows how to ''use'' them.
* OutOfContinues: The means he's been using to preserve his youth over five millennia - [[spoiler:cloning himself]] - can no longer sustain him.
* SingleStrokeBattle: What his duel with Tenchi boils down to in its climax.

!!Yume

Washu's top rival from her days in the Academy. The two of them made a bet long ago that would result in the loser becoming a slave to the winner...with the nature of the bet being whether Yume could use her scientific genius to conquer Jurai. To this end, she stole the second-generation royal tree, Bizen, and sealed herself within it to bend its will to her own while sending her artificial creations to steal the archives that would allow her to fully harness its power.

----
* BadBoss: The first thing she does upon seeing Hishima after being unsealed? ''Hit him hard enough to crack his faceplate,'' berating him for taking so long to realize her goal.
* BrattyHalfPint: Appears like a child despite [[ReallySevenHundredYearsOld being over 5,000 years old at least.]] Truthfully, she acts like a petulant, spoiled child as opposed to the major arc villain she was intended to be.
* CoolSword: She owns a sword forged from a rare super-metal, though she rarely uses it. [[spoiler:It originally belonged to Yakage, until she had Hishima steal it for her]].
* EasilyForgiven / KarmaHoudini: Have your minions kidnap a major Jurai official? Check. Have said minions hunt down the Jurai official's daughter? Check. Brainwash another Jurai official and have him instigate unrest on Ryuten? Check. Personally order your minions to kill the daughter of your rival? Check. Kill dozens of soldiers while you steal a royal tree? Check. Nearly collapse the galaxy when your control of said royal tree goes haywire? Double Check. What do you get for all this, Yume? Not even a slap on the wrist. [[spoiler:In the ''Shin/New'' manga, she suffers RedemptionDemotion.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: By the end of the arc that introduced her, she's given up on trying to conquer Jurai. The next time we see her, she's apparently comfortable enough with the Masaki household that she has no problem joining them at the hot springs.
* {{Jerkass}}: Considering that her usual response to irritation from her minions is to pummel them, it's safe to say that she qualifies.
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: However, she would never [[spoiler:want them to sacrifice their lives to save hers unless she ''ordered'' them to]].
* KickTheDog: She's very abusive to her creations when they irritate her, making both Clay and Washu seem tame by comparison. [[spoiler:However, when one of her android warriors (Takashima) sacrifices its life to protect Yume, she suffers a VillainousBSOD, lamenting that [[HowDareYouDieOnMe she hadn't given him permission to die for her sake]]. This reveals that she ''does'' care for her creations, making her more of a possible JerkassWoobie.]]
* MadScientist: She's clever enough to bend the will of a Royal Tree to her own, and mad enough to try conquering Jurai for no other reason than to ''settle a bet.''
* NonActionBigBad: As her brief sparring match with Yume shows, she ''can'' fight pretty well. She just prefers to let Hishima do the fighting for her.
* TookALevelInKindness: After her plan is foiled, and Hishima's flying her to safety, she quietly thanks him for his aid. Subsequent stories show that they have a much healthier relationship now.

* InTheHood: All three of them wear body-concealing cloaks with shadowy hoods.
* InnocentFanserviceGuy: Hishima has no problem being naked in front of girls.
* OnlyOneName: We never get a last name for any of them. Justified, as they're artificial creations of Yume.

A pair of space pirates who confront the Masaki household during an interstellar treasure hunt. Despite being relatively small fry compared to the likes of Kagato or Yume, this dastardly duo prove a dangerous thorn in the heroes' side once the treasure they're seeking becomes evident.
----
* AnimalMotifs: It's very subtle, but Mikamo's habit of saying "chu" makes him reminiscent of mice.
* AxCrazy: [[spoiler:Mikamo]], as it turns out. For the supposed sidekick, he ''really'' likes killing.
* BigBadWannabe: [[spoiler:Yataka]] turns out to be far less intimidating and effective than he thinks he is.
* BerserkButton: [[spoiler:Mikamo]] does ''not'' like things falling out of control. [[spoiler:Or being shown mercy.]]
* ButtMonkey: [[spoiler:Yataka]], as the story progresses.
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: [[spoiler:Mikamo turns out to be the one with the reins in his partnership with Yataka]].
* DontYouDarePityMe: If there's one thing that sets [[spoiler:Mikamo]] off, it's being shown mercy.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Played for laughs when Mikamo abducts Ayeka through trickery. Yataka sounds furious at first, but then grins and pats Mikamo's shell while congratulating him.
** Played straight later on, when [[spoiler:Yataka]] is creeped out by [[spoiler:Mikamo]]'s more sadistic tendencies, and claims that it wasn't necessary to try and murder Ryoko and Ayeka.
* {{Guyliner}}: Yataka rocks some lipstick.
* HostageForMacguffin: Yataka tries to barter a captive Ayeka for the treasure that the Masaki clan is seeking.
* HypercompetentSidekick: Mikamo's got it together better than Yataka.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Once Tenchi breaks out the Light Hawk Wings and gets them powered up by Ryoko, [[spoiler:Yataka]] decides that enough's enough. Too bad that [[spoiler:Mikamo]] won't be having any of that.
* NinjaLooting: According to Ryoko, Yataka's got a habit of doing this - he waits for others to do the heavy lifting, then swoops in and seizes the loot for himself.
* ShadowWalker: Mikamo can travel through people's shadows and abduct them in this manner.
* VerbalTic: In the English adaptation, Yataka has a habit of adding "like" to his sentences, making him come off as a gender-flipped ValleyGirl or /WesternAnimation/BeavisAndButthead. Mikamo, meanwhile, has a habit of injecting "chu" into his sentences, often replacing words with it.

Now, as Oku II begins to deteriorate from the rigors of hyperspace, he has concluded that he wants only one last thing out of life - to have Princess Ayeka by his side when the end comes...

----
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: He was the crown prince of his homeworld before it entered a terminal stage. He's also capable of fighting Tenchi equally...while the latter's using his ''[[SuperMode Light Hawk Wings.]]''
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: His weapon is a LaserBlade that manifests from the front of his gauntlet. And he can do this twice for DualWielding.
* CrazyJealousGuy: He wants Ayeka. Ayeka wants Tenchi. How does he decide to try and resolve this? [[spoiler:Brainwash Ayeka and make her try to kill Tenchi]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Despite brainwashing Ayeka and forcing her to try and kill Tenchi, Garyu ''does'' seem to legitimately love her - he's visibly distressed when Ayeka almost gets killed while following his orders, and [[spoiler:ultimately mutilates himself rather than attack her]].
* ItsAllAboutMe: He doesn't [[spoiler:(seem to)]] care for the emotional torment that Ayeka goes through from having her memories erased, nor that of the Masaki household at her absence. All that he cares about is that he has Ayeka for himself, even if it means she dies with him when Oku II explodes. [[spoiler:He sees the error of his ways by the end.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He really cares about Ayeka. [[spoiler:So much that when Ayeka tries to put herself between him and Tenchi during their duel, he cuts off ''his own hand'' rather than hurt her]].

* MurderTheHypotenuse: His reason for wanting Tenchi dead.
* OnlyOneName: Despite being the royal authority on his homeworld, we don't get a last name from him.
* PetTheDog: His love for Ayeka, twisted as it is, is ultimately genuine. He also chooses to abduct Sasami rather than kill her after Ayeka goes into a breakdown after accidentally attacking her.
