[[folder:501st Joint Fighter Wing "Strike Witches"]]

The 501st JFW, also known as the Strike Witches, is a specialist unit composed entirely of witches originally stationed in Britannia and later in Romagna. Although their primary duty is defending the area where they are stationed from Neuroi, they are the ones responsible for liberating Gallia from the Neuroi. After the liberation of Gallia, they were disbanded, however they were reformed in Romagna to help defend the area after the disastrous Operation Trajanus. During the liberation of Gallia, they were one of the squadrons under the command of Trevor Maloney, after they were reformed to defend Romagna they were placed under the command of Adolfine Galland.
* AmplifierArtifact: Their striker units function as magical amplifiers as well strengthening their spells.
* ChildSoldiers: They range in age form twelve to twenty (meaning the older ones don't count for this trope). Given the generally optimistic tone of the show, the darker side of this trope is never explored.
* FiveRoundsRapid: The vast majority of their firepower accomplishes exactly nothing. Only when the core is exposed or when the Neuroi deploys drones does their firepower actually do something.
** This has little to do with the guns the girls are using and a lot to do with the structure of the Neuroi themselves. Pretty much everyone can inflict significant damage on the shell of a neuroi, the problem is that said shells can completely regenerate from having whole wings cleaved off of them in just a few seconds, so nothing short of a direct hit on the core will put them down.
%%* FireForgedFriends
* FlyingBrick: In addition to a nifty unique power, all witches have increased strength, endurance, and durability. They also have access to basic magics like shields and flight, meaning they are essentially ''all'' flying bricks.
* ForegoneConclusion: Anyone who's watched the film before Operation Victory Arrow will catch on that the team will reunite at the end of the film.
* ImprobablyFemaleCast: The overwhelmingly female demographics of the witches is hardly unique since magic is pretty much an all girl party. What justifies the presence of this trope is Minna enacting a rule that prevents any guys from getting anywhere near the limelight.
* InstantRunes: These are created whenever the girls raise a shield and whenever they take off.
* LittleBitBeastly: The girls grow animal features when they use magic.
* LittleMissBadass: The girls may be teenagers but they can kick major ass when they need to.
%%* MildlyMilitary
* MoreDakka: The standard issue gun is a heavy machine gun.
* MultinationalTeam: Since witches are so rare, talent is pulled from everywhere.
** Britannia (United Kingdom): [[{{Adorkable}} Lynne]].
** Fuso (Japan): [[{{Determinator}} Yoshika]] and [[{{Samurai}} Mio]].
** Gallia (France): [[FrenchJerk Perrine]].
** Karlsland (Germany): [[TheCaptain Minna]], [[SuperStrength Trude]] and [[BrilliantButLazy Erica]].
** Liberion (United States): [[SuperSpeed Shirley]].
** Orussia (Russia): [[TheQuietOne Sanya]].
** Romagna (Italy): [[GenkiGirl Lucchini]].
** Suomus (Finland): [[{{Seers}} Eila]].
* PowerGlows: Whenever the girls of the 501st call upon their magic they glow in addition to growing animal features.
* RagtagBunchOfMisfits: For the same reason that witches are pulled from everywhere, they are also pulled from all walks of life.
** Also before the Neuroi invasion the military appears to be composed of mostly men so there was a scramble to recruit witches who are almost exclusively female from the civilian populations. This coupled with the seeming lack of formal training means that the Strike Witches are mildly military to put it lightly.

These are the maidens who make up the 501st Joint Fighter Wing, better known as the ''Anime/StrikeWitches''.
!!Sergeant/Ensign Yoshika Miyafuji

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MisatoFukuen (JP), Creator/CheramiLeigh (EN)

-->"Her latent ability is impressive indeed. Not only with regards to her magic, but she also has perseverance and determination. It's my mission and duty to guide her on her path to becoming a full-fledged Witch, for the sake of my, no, the world's benefactor, Dr. Miyafuji." --Mio

Yoshika comes from a family of magical doctors on the island nation of Fuso. Her father was responsible for the creation of the Striker Unit, magically powered engines that amplify magic, to counter the Neuroi. However, her father was killed in the war tainting Yoshika's perception of it. She was initially reluctant when Mio [[CallToAdventure came to recruit her]], but after helping to defend the Fuso fleet from a Neroi attack, she agreed to join the 501st Strike Witches. Yoshika's striker unit is based on the Mitsubishi [=Zero A6M3a=] and she carries around a Type 99 13mm machine gun. She's named after the WWII ace Kanayoshi Mutou.

* AccidentalPervert: She has a habit of staring and grabbing onto the breasts of the well endowed members of the unit, though Lynette's the usual target. She even unconsciously does it in her sleep!
* {{All Loving Hero}}ine: On top of just being a really pleasant person who doesn't bear grudges, [[spoiler: she's the only one willing to negotiate with the Neuroi]]. Played UpToEleven in ''TheMovie'', despite or (perhaps ''because of'') her lack of power.
* BadassAdorable: [[TookALevelInBadass Takes several levels in badass]] over the course of the series. Remains cute as hell.
* BadassNormal: In the film, even without her Witch Powers she destroyed a huge Neuroi tower with a machine-gun she can barely carry and a Jeep all by herself.
* BarrierWarrior: Her shields are noted to be far stronger than average and she seems to have a higher magical capacity than most.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's very nearly a pacifist. The first time she really seems to want the Neuroi to die ''right now'' is after it almost kills Lynne. She even goes on a short RoaringRampageOfRevenge to do it. After a DungeonBypass ''straight through its center of motion'', firing her machine gun all the way.
* BiTheWay: In spite of her close LesYay relationship with Lynne-chan, Yoshika is still overjoyed at receiving her very first love letter from a boy; namely an admirer in the Fuso navy. Something ''might'' have come of it if Minna didn't rain on her parade and ended the relationship before it even began by pulling rank.
* BrokenPedestal: She becomes this to Shizuka in the first half of ''TheMovie''.
* CowboyCop: She tends to launch her own investigations when she gets stonewalled.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: In the film, it seems that Yoshika must stop and help others whenever there is an 'opportunity' to help, even though [[spoiler:that means facing up against a Neuroi with nothing but a machine gun that she can barely lift]].
* CombatMedic: She possesses strong healing magic yet still mixes it up in combat.
* CovertPervert: She seems pretty innocent, but shows an inordinate interest in other girls' boobs. [[LesYay Specifically Lynette's]].
* DemotedToExtra: While Yoshika is a major character in the ''Strike Witches'' TV series and movie, she gets a minor appearance in ''Brave Witches''.
* {{Determinator}}: She refuses to lose to the Neuroi, no matter how bleak the situation gets.
* DoesNotKnowHerOwnStrength: Yoshika is blissfully unaware of her growing magical prowess in season two.
* DudeShesLikeInAComa: In the finale of episode 5 of ''Strike Witches'', [[spoiler:Yoshika grabs the boobs of Shirley while she is unconscious due to fatigue. And BUTT NAKED.]]
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Well, not to Neuroi. But taming the bears in TheMovie has to count for something.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Went from a medical student to a member of the 501st JFW.
* HealingHands: She tends to channel her healing magic through her hands.
* HeroicResolve: Mio has noted that Yoshika's magical abilities seem to increase under stress.
** Taken UpToEleven in the finale of ''Strike Witches 2'', when, after exhausting all her magical power, she musters up some more through sheer determination. [[spoiler: [[CrowningMomentOfAwesome The rest of the squadron follows suit]]]].
** [[spoiler: And once more in the film, while bleeding out on the ground, the collective call of everyone in the 501st lets her ''get her magic back''.]]
** Another example from TheMovie: [[spoiler: She doesn't let the little difficulty of ''having no magic'' keep her from lugging a gun into a nearby Jeep in order to protect a village]] Basically, there's never ''ever'' a good time to get on her bad side.
* HeroicSacrifice: At the end of ''Strike Witches 2'', [[spoiler: she uses up all her magical power in order to save Mio and destroy the Neuroi core.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: The last few episodes of ''Strike Witches'' are almost a direct cause of her honorable nature trumping observational evidence. [[SpannerInTheWorks Then again...]]
* TheIdealistWasRight: The 501st admitted that Yoshika's ultimately correct about her attempts to communicate with the Neuroi, if only that [[spoiler:the Warlock incident didn't occur.]]
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: She is willing to break military rules for the safety of the 501st and everyone else if she needs to.
* IdiotsCannotCatchColds: According to episode 8 of ''Strike Witches 2'', she's never caught a cold in her life.
* LittleBitBeastly: She takes on the features of a Shiba Inu when she uses magic.
* MilitaryMaverick: Yoshika becomes well-known for disregarding orders from higher authorities and still bring out positive results.
* NaiveNewcomer: The newest one into the squadron, and due to Japan's relative isolation from the war she has very little idea of what has been going on.
* NiceGirl: She is one of the nicest girls in the 501st and doesn't resent anyone, including Perrine.
* NoOneGetsLeftBehind: Towards the end of episode 4 in ''Strike Witches'', Yoshika tells Barkhorn that she can't leave her behind.
* OrphansPlotTrinket: In ''Strike Witches'' Yoshika's striker unit is a memento left by her dead father. [[spoiler: She later uses it to blow up a gigantic Neuroi core and liberate Gallia.]] Likewise [[spoiler: the Shinden Striker Unit]] in ''Strike Witches 2'', which is based on her father's research.
* RammingAlwaysWorks: [[spoiler:How the burrowing battleship Neuroi is disposed of at the end of ''TheMovie''.]] And it's glorious.
* RebuiltPedestal: At the end of ''TheMovie'', [[spoiler:Yoshika gains Shizuka's respect after the latter realizes what how the 501st works]].
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: With Lynette. Her friendly admiration of Mio also has some shades of this, though it's nowhere near [[ClingyJealousGirl Perrine]]'s level.
* SailorFuku: Her signature outfit is this over a {{school swimsuit}}.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Yoshika's modus operandi is to bend military rules that she doesn't agree to where necessary.
* ShesBack: [[spoiler:Yoshika's role in ''TheMovie'' is this in a nutshell. She regains her magical powers while fighting off a battleship Neuroi]].
* SpannerInTheWorks: At the end of ''Strike Witches'', Yoshika [[spoiler:helps the 501st expose General Maloney's true intentions of disbanding the unit and using Neuroi technology]].
* StoneWall: Her shields are very good, but she seems to have a far lower kill rate than everybody else in the squadron.
* TeamChef: She's pressed into this role after joining because nobody else can cook, although Lynette is often seen helping her.
** Even after the other members start showing off their culinary skills, Yoshika and Lynette are often the default chefs of the unit.
* TenMinuteRetirement: [[spoiler:She quits the military in the finale of ''Strike Witches 2'', but Shizuka picks her up back to Venezia in ''TheMovie''. Then she gets her power back during a very crucial moment, so ShesBack in action with full glory]].
* TookALevelInBadass: She goes from a medical officer to a witch capable of taking down Neuroi.

!!Sergeant/Master Sergeant Lynette Bishop ("Lynne")

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/KaoriNazuka (JP), Creator/KateBristol (EN)

-->"Other members of the unit? Lynne was the first friend I made after coming here to Britannia. She showed me around in the base and was very kind! That made me happy... And... that big bosom.... wah! Nothing! It's nothing!" -- Yoshika

Lynne is a very personable if a bit shaky, sniper from Britannia. Lynette is the middle child of eight siblings and was sometimes overlooked. Because of this, she's domestic and painfully shy. She joined the Strike Witches shortly before Yoshika to help protect her homeland. Lynette is assigned to be Yoshika's roommate, where the two quickly become friends. Her striker unit is based on the Supermarine Spitfire Mk. IX and she lugs around a Boys Anti-Tank Rifle in battle. Her sister, Wilma Bishop, is named after the WWI Ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Avery_Bishop William Avery Bishop]].

* ApologizesALot: Apologizing seems to be her first knee-jerk reflex.
* CuteClumsyGirl: Less clumsy than most, but she has her moments.
* DepletedPhlebotinumShells: Her power essentially turns normal bullets (and other objects) into these.
* FriendlySniper: She's soft-spoken, nice, and can hit a target most people need binoculars to see.
* GagBoobs: Often treated like this by the fandom.
* SpotOfTea: Every time the squadron chips in to help prepare for a difficult mission, her suggestion is tea.
%%* IdiotHair
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Her inherent gift magic lets her guide and strengthen her shots. Also, she has really good eyesight.
* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: In the Japanese version, her nickname is Lee-Neh rather than Lyn.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: In spite of her close LesYay relationship with Yoshika-chan, Lynne-chan was overjoyed for the latter when she received her very first love letter from a boy; full of encouragement and support and doing her best to help that potential friendship blossom into a full romance... [[NiceJobBreakingItHero until Minna stepped in and ruined everything.]]
** Or alternatively; Minna just saved Yoshika, Lynne, the viewers and the series from a random, generic male love interest that would have turned the series into another crappy, overplayed, [[HaremGenre Harem Story.]] After that incident is dealt with Lynne and Yoshika become [[LesYay closer than ever before.]]
* LittleBitBeastly She takes on the features of the Scottish Fold when she uses magic.
* MarshmallowHell: Gave it to Yoshika after they took out a Neuroi.
* [[NiceGuy Nice Girl]]: Probably why she and Yoshika get along so well.
* NoScope: Despite shooting at objects across distances measured in kilometers, she does so without a scope. Although the ability to guide her shots after she's fired them probably helps.
* ShrinkingViolet: She's very shy and almost washes out before Yoshika arrives.
* SmallGirlBigGun: She's on the short end of the squadron and her weapon of choice is an anti-tank rifle.
* SquishyWizard: [[IncrediblyLamePun Yeah]].
* TeamChef: Along with Yoshika.

!!Major Mio Sakamoto

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SaekoChiba (2007-2008) and Saori Seto (2010-present) (JP), Creator/KiraVincentDavis (EN)

-->"Sakamoto-san? She's kind, but can be pretty strict sometimes. She told me about the work my father had done, and I'm very grateful for that. Although it surprised me when we met for the first time and she told me that “I would come to her sooner or later”!" --Yoshika

Mio, the second in command of the Strike Witches, worked with Yoshika's father on the Striker Units and is, therefore, the oldest witch. As a veteran of the initial fights against the Neuroi, she is far tougher and more disciplined than most of the Strike Witches. Her primary job is to train new recruits and takes a no-nonsense "tough love" approach to her duties. As the second in command of the Strike Witches, she supports Minna and maintains discipline when out of battle and locates the weak point of Neuroi with her magic eye in battle. Her striker is based on the Mitsubishi Zero [=A6M3a=] in season one and the [=Kawanishi N1K=] in season two: in battle, she carries a Type 99 13mm machine gun and a katana. Her character is named after WWII aces Saburo Sakai. She is known for her distinctive, hearty laugh.

* BadassInDistress: In the finale of ''Strike Witches 2'', she is [[spoiler: absorbed into a Neuroi core. You don't get much more distressed than that]].
* BoisterousBruiser: Known for her rolling, jolly laugh of approval for innocence and/or righteous behavior.
* BarSinister: Oddly enough this appears on her eyepatch as well as her emblem.
* BroughtDownToBadass: [[spoiler:In ''TheMovie'', she appears with an ordinary warplane to deliver the Shinden Unit to Yoshika.]]
* CantHoldHerLiquor: After having a jug of wine dropped on her, Mio immediately proceeds to give Commander Minna a full-on kiss and runs into a cave.
* CoolBigSis: Serves as this role to ease newcomers into their new military life.
* CoolSword: [[NamedWeapons Reppumaru]], a katana she forges herself using magic and it can block lasers.
* DeathSeeker: Though far from a fatalist, Mio still intends her death to be a glorious one in battle, befitting of a Fuso Warrior. [[spoiler:Tragically, she finally plays this trope straight in the penultimate episode of ''Strike Witches 2'', when her life as a warrior comes to an end.]]
* {{Determinator}}: She never gives up in the battlefield, even when [[spoiler: her powers start to fade away, she wants to stay on the battlefield even if cost her life.]]
* DrillSergeantNasty: [[AllThereInTheManual According to supplemental material]], new recruits in the Fusou Navy call her "Sakamoto the Demon" behind her back.
* EnemyScan: When she looks at a Neuroi with her magic eye, she can see its weak point.
* EyepatchOfPower: She wears a patch that hides her Neuroi core-detecting right eye.
* FeelingTheirAge: The fact that for ''Anime/StrikeWitches'' old age starts somewhere around 20, with a decline in magic power, is explored in ''Strike Witches 2''. Mio pushes herself to stay in action, against fellow high-ranking officer Minna's advice, [[spoiler: ultimately receiving first a minor then a grave injury.]]
* FragileSpeedster: In ''Strike Witches 2'' her striker unit is upgraded, making it far faster and more maneuverable. [[spoiler: She doesn't have a shield, so the only thing between her and extra crispy is her reflexes.]]
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:Not only does she have no shield anymore, but Reppumaru ate up almost all of her magic to the point that she can't even fire off [[SwordBeam Reppuzan]] anymore.]]
* HeroicResolve: In the finale of ''Strike Witches 2'', [[spoiler:she snaps out of a HeroicBSOD after knowing the Yamato mission failed. She rushes into Yamato ship with little to none magic power for reactivating the ship in order to blow up the Neuroi nest.]]
* HeroicRROD: [[spoiler:Mio nearly runs herself to the ground by using Reppumaru to eat up all of her magic in the finale of ''Strike Witches 2'']].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Subverted. She's prepared to pull one in the finale of ''Strike Witches 2'', but [[BigDamnHeroes Yoshika saves her]]]].
* HonorBeforeReason: On top of acting like a stereotypical samurai, she considers betraying her code to be worse than death since her ability is critical to the squadron's success. [[spoiler: Even after she loses her shield she continues to fight, even though even a glancing hit from a Neuroi laser would be enough to critically injure her.]]
* HotBlooded: A bit more tempered than most, but is not one to back down from a fight.
* LadyOfWar: Again, modeled after a stereotypical samurai.
* TheLancer: She is the second in command of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing and often helps her commander when she can. For example, when enacting discipline, she often plays "bad cop" to Minna's "good cop".
* LittleBitBeastly: She takes on Doberman traits when she uses magic.
* LosingIsWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler: And Mio unhesitantly charged into the latter, having finally and literally exhausted her life as a warrior in the final episodes of ''Strike Witches 2''.]]
* MagicKnight: She lacks some magical capacity but makes up for it with increased martial skill.
* MeaningfulName: Her sword means "gale" and is named after a Japanese plane model that never entered service.
* NumberTwo: She's Minna's second in command.
* ObliviousToLove: She shows absolutely no awareness of the fact that both Perrine and Minna have crushes on her. Minna at least tries to be subtle about it, but not noticing Perrine's feelings takes work.
* OlderThanSheLooks: She's twenty years old, despite looking like a teenager at first appearance.
* [[ProudWarriorRaceGuy Proud Warrior Race Girl]]: The picture of a classical Japanese Warrior, albeit GenderFlipped.
* ShowerOfAngst: Towards the end of ''Strike Witches 2'' after knowing [[spoiler:her powers are fading away]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Is her rank squadron commander or major?
** Or properly, she should be a [[Headscratchers/HomePage Lieutenant Commander]] and Yoshika a [[ArtisticLicenseShips Petty Officer]] of some sort.
** Changing rank designations is not unusual when naval officers serve with non-naval units. In such cases, they tend to use the equivalent land or air force ranks, or whatever is closest.
* SuicideMission: At the end of ''Strike Witches 2'', she [[spoiler: rushes into Yamato to reactivate the ship again while it was infested by Neurois.]]
* SuperSenses: Her power is Enhanced Visual Acuity which grants her telescopic vision along with the ability to identify a Neuroi's core.
* SupportingLeader: She serves as this to Minna.
* SwordAndGun: She uses a katana alongside with gun weapons.
* ThisCannotBe: [[spoiler: After Reppuzan failed in the battle, Mio goes through another brief HeroicBSOD]].

!!Lieutenant Colonel Minna-Dietlinde Wilcke

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RieTanaka (JP), Anastasia Muñoz (EN)

-->"Lieutenant Colonel Minna? Yes, she's a fantastic person! She's always smiling... and she feels like a very mature woman. I wish I could be more like her. She somewhat reminds me of a mother." --Yoshika

Minna is the leader of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing and the commander of the Karlsland Air Force. After the Neuroi appeared and her lover was killed, she gave up her dream of becoming a singer to join the Karlsland Air Force. Because of her traumatic past, the safety of her subordinates is her top priority. Despite her kind and gentle demeanor, she will go to any lengths to protect her subordinates. She is even willing to issue orders specifically to prevent them from being hurt and she was the one behind the order forbidding male workers in the base from socializing with the witches. Her striker unit is based on the Messerschmitt [=BF109G2=] and her weapon is the [=MG42=] machine gun. Her character is named after the WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolf-Dietrich_Wilcke Wolf-Dietrich Wilcke]].

* ArmorPiercingSlap: At the end of "Thanks", Minna slaps Trude for her reckless behavior.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: She is the leader of the 501st Joint Fighter Wing and Karlsland Air Force, and extremely powerful and skilled.
* BadassInCharge: Of the Strike Witches.
* BadassTeacher: She teaches witches from time to time and can kick major ass if she needs to.
* BerserkButton: Engage in self-destructive or suicidal behavior around her, I dare you.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Despite her demeanor, it's worth noting that her familiar is a wolf.
* BrokenBird: Became bitter with [[spoiler:the death of her first love]], and rather self-righteously tries to stop anyone else from falling in love as a result, with the justification of "not wanting her comrades to experience the same pain."
** It's a little more complicated then that: in cannon source material the allied command does uphold a blanket prohibition from fraternization between conventional military personnel and the witches beyond anything that is purely professional in nature to ensure that witches aren't taken advantage of but to also discourage the possibility of unbecoming behavior and to some degree soften the impact of loosing non-which comrades, though it seems that the extent in which this is enforced may vary from nation to nation or even from unit to unit. Minna herself when questioned by Mio about her actions being as heavy handed as they were responded matter of factually "Those are the rules" hinting that Minna is merely enforcing military protocol as a wing commander. That said it's likely given her backstory [[spoiler: and the loss of Kurt]] it could be argued she could be enforcing the anti-fraternization protocol much more strictly then most, but not out of "bitterness" or "self-righteousness".... more likely it's motivated by a combination of professionalism in her duties as an officer being influenced and enforcing military protocol more heavily by personal anguish and trying to go about preserving the well being of her subordinates; given that she is still a Commander who cares for the well being of her girls so her actions typically are motivated to that end in mind. It should be noted that Eila and Sanya hold feelings for each other: yet Minna doesn't appear to show and express any objection.
* TheCaptain: Despite her demeanor, she's clearly the one running things although she doesn't hold the rank of Captain.
* ExtremeOmnivore: While not a BigEater, Not only can Minna consume foods and drinks that the rest of the squadron can barely stomach, but she actually ''likes'' them. Examples include ginger tea that Lynette put too much sugar in, and Lamprey oil (She asked for seconds!).
* GlamorousWartimeSinger: Minna tried to be a singer earlier in the war.
* HeartbrokenBadass: Sure, she may be a high-ranking officer of the Karlsland Air Force, but [[spoiler:after the death of her lover, the series can testify how more badass she became]].
* HerHeartWillGoOn: [[spoiler:Minna lost her love during the war before the beginning of ''Strike Witches''. This tragedy caused her to become a strict captain to guarantee the witch's safety and have them avoid experiencing the same pain]].
** [[spoiler:And it's increasingly apparent that she has developed feelings for Mio]].
* LittleBitBeastly: Takes on the features of a wolf when using magic.
* MamaBear: She is willing to go to any lengths to prevent her subordinates from being harmed.
* MeaningfulName: Her archetype pilot is named Wolf, she gains wolf features.
* MissionControl: Minna's power gives her acute knowledge of her surroundings which allows her to determine unit positions in 3D, unit allegiance, and unit health. She uses this in battle to help her direct her forces. When she sits out of a battle, she is usually in front of a radar giving orders.
* AMotherToHerMen: Or in her case, "A Mother to Her Girls". She cares deeply for her subordinates and they return the favor.
* TeamMom: [[AllThereInTheManual The novels]] mention that she and Mio have a GoodCopBadCop approach to discipline, with Mio as the Bad Cop and Minna as the Good Cop.
* WhatTheHellHero: Minna calls Trude out for her reckless behavior at the end of "Thanks".
* WellIntentionedExtremist: She's willing to do a lot to ensure her subordinate's safety, [[spoiler: including pulling a gun on one of her best friends]]. This is the result of [[spoiler:losing her love during the war]].
* {{Yandere}}: Her behavior toward the end of ''Strike Witches'' -- [[spoiler: specifically, pulling a gun on Mio to keep her from fighting when she's losing her power]] -- can be considered this. She gets over it, though.
** Debatable if this trope actually applies: [[spoiler: given that Minna appears to draw her gun in a bit to try and get through to Mio who is well known for being either dense, stubborn or both; it was likely the only way Minna could get Mio to both take her seriously as well as understand explicitly. In most cases a Yandere actually wants to harm their love interest to prevent them being stolen from competition (wither real or imagined). In this case Minna doesn't actually want to shoot Mio and is doing so to convince Mio to stop fighting in the war due to her diminishing magical viability, which are actual, legitimate concerns, if exercised and expressed in an extream way]].
* XRayVision: Minna's ability essentially lets her see ''everything'' in her proximity out to a respectable yet unspecified distance. In battle, it makes her a mobile CIC: out of battle it allows her to keep tabs on her subordinates.

!! Lieutenant Perrine Henriette Clostermann
->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MiyukiSawashiro (JP), Creator/JadSaxton (EN)

-->"Perrine? Yes, it feels like she's always mad at me. I wonder why...? I know I make a lot of mistakes all the time, but I still don't think she has to be that hard on me... Sakamoto-san told me being strict on someone is a way to show you have hopes for them, but I wonder..." --Yoshika

Perrine is a rich Gallian noble that saw her home destroyed when the Neuroi invaded Gallia. She joined the Strike Witches in their liberation of Gallia to help free her homeland from the Neuroi. She admires Mio and quickly develops a dislike of Yoshika due to their closeness. Her dislike eventually turns to full blown jealousy as she challenges Yoshika to a duel. Eventually, she realizes that Yoshika is a comrade but she still makes constant attempts to win Mio's attention and to make Yoshika look bad. Her striker unit is based on the Arsenal VG39 and her weapon is the Bren Light Machine Gun Mk1. She is also seen carrying a rapier in some official art, which doesn't show up until midway through ''Strike Witches 2''. Her character is named after the WWII Ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pierre_Clostermann Pierre Clostermann]].

* AlphaBitch: Snobby, rich, and insufferable.
* ButtMonkey:
** Her foot seems magnetically attracted to her mouth: One time she insults Miyafuji for bringing in foul tasting Lamprey oil as a health drink only to find out seconds later that Mio brought it. Also, almost everything she does tends to backfire horribly for her.
** Used literally in episode 7 of ''Strike Witches 2'' -- a Neuroi bug crawls into her butt crack, and when she pulls down her tights and panties Francesca shoots her in the rear with a high-pressure fire hose (using a scope from a [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mosin%E2%80%93Nagant Mosin-Nagant]] no less).
* CharacterDevelopment: Probably the series' best example. She goes from a [[AlphaBitch snooty]], [[ItsAllAboutMe self-centered]] {{Yandere}} to a friendly, even humble person who runs an orphanage & a school. She never really gets over Mio, though.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Holds Mio with the utmost of respect, and resents anyone getting too chummy with her ([[SuffersNewbiesPoorly especially Yoshika]] who, like Mio, is a native of [[strike:Japan]] the Fuso Empire).
* CoolSword: Often seen with one in the promo art, and in ''Strike Witches 2'' it makes its appearance. A different rapier is used to destroy a golem.
* FrenchJerk: She's from Gallia and can come off as a jerk towards everyone else.
* HiddenHeartOfGold: There's a heart of gold in there somewhere, you would need a crowbar and heavy digging equipment to find it, though.
** And that kind and gentle big sister hugging and playing with children in Episode 6 of ''Strike Witches 2'' can't be the same RichBitch that's mean to Yoshika, can she? Oh, you have got to be kidding!!
** ''Strike Witches 2'' reveals she's practically penniless. All that huge hazard pay she's getting? All donated to charity. She also sold most of her family's heirlooms to raise money for the Gallia rebuilding effort.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: While she can be insufferable and an AlphaBitch, she does care about her homeland and her friends.
* LittleBitBeastly: Gains the features of a Chartreux cat when using her magic.
* LuminescentBlush: She has one whenever Mio is in any way involved, when she's outraged, and when she's embarrassed which is why there seems to be on permanently glued to her face. For example, see the picture.
* {{Meganekko}}: Constantly wears glasses except in places where they would fog up.
* {{Ojou}}: She definitely used to be high class and wealthy. She even does the laugh.
* PsychoLesbian: Challenging a rookie to a duel with ''live ammunition'' over a crush is really really pushing it, even if the ammo was just used for intimidation.
* RichBitch: Though it's less flaunting her wealth and more complaining about how unrefined her comrades (read: Yoshika) are.
** {{Averted}} in ''Strike Witches 2'', the third OVA & the film. She converted her extravagant manor into an orphanage and is deeply involved with Gallian reconstruction efforts.
* ShockAndAwe: This is her power. It messes up her hair so she doesn't use it often.
* TookALevelInKindness: In ''TheMovie'', after Gallia is liberated, she runs an orphanage (which is also a school) [[ShipTease with Amelie]]. She's also very nice toward Yoshika and Shizuka.
* {{Tsundere}}: She has her moments.
* {{Yandere}}: Attached to Mio.

-->"Lucchini always eats the things I cook with a smile on her face. Things like that makes me happy! But it feels like she's always sleeping in some odd place... is that really okay?" --Yoshika

Lucchini is a talented and cheerful witch from the Duchy of Romagna. Unlike most other members of the 501st her past isn't marred by tragedy, she joined the Strike Witches out of a sense of duty to ensure that no harm would ever come to her beloved Romagna. However, for all her lofty ideals she's still twelve years old and often acts childish or self-indulgent like a typical twelve-year-old. Her energetic personality masks the fact that she's quite lazy. She'll often spend time napping around the base only waking up to change where she naps. However, in the air, she displays a passion and talent for flying that nobody in the 501st can match. Her striker unit is based on the FIAT G-55 Centauro and her weapon is the Breda-SAFAT Machine Gun 12.7 mm. She is named after the UsefulNotes/WorldWarII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franco_Lucchini Franco Lucchini]].

* BarrierWarrior: Takes this a step further and literally fights people with her barriers. Her stacked barriers are almost unbreakable as well.
* BigEater: Eats slightly more than the other witches and for her food is always a top priority.
* ButtMonkey: She tends to be the one whom bad things happen to. In one episode she spends most of it running away from everybody. In another, she accidentally breaks Shirley's Striker unit and receives a lump on the head when Minna finds out.
* CatGirl: While there are others with the cat motif, she has the personality to match. This includes her habit of sleeping in high places.
* ChildSoldier: She's twelve and has been serving for a while.
%%* CuteLittleFangs
* FastballSpecial: At the end of ''Strike Witches'', Shirley throws her. Also, her signature move seems tailor-made for this.
* FearlessFool: She doesn't seem to fear anything (not even Shirley's driving) except Minna and Mio.
* GenkiGirl: She's full of energy, jumps around a lot, and speaks in a sing-songy voice.
* GirlishPigtails: She ties her hair into twin tails.
* HeavySleeper: Although she takes cat naps, not even the roar of airplane engines can rouse her while she's asleep.
* HypocriticalHumor: Makes fun of Perrine's boobs, despite being the flattest of the witches herself, which is nothing unusual, since she's also the youngest.
* LastNameBasis: Oddly enough, practically no one ever calls her by her first name.
* LittleBitBeastly: She gains features of the black panther whenever she uses magic.
* LovableSexManiac: She likes to grope the boobs of her teammates, sometimes as a greeting ritual or just for fun...
* RammingAlwaysWorks: Her signature move is to stack several shields together and ram the target.
* SmallGirlBigGun: She's the smallest witch and she wields a gun meant for airplanes. Although it's not that much bigger than the other girls' guns, the size difference is more pronounced.
* TokenMiniMoe: She's also the youngest of the witches.

!! Lieutenant/Captain Charlotte E. Yeager ("Shirley")

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AmiKoshimizu (JP), Creator/JamieMarchi (EN)

-->"Shirley is a really kind person! She seems kind of slack, but I think she actually really looks after everyone. She's big-hearted and broad-minded... What? I'm not talking about her breasts! But... well... they sure did feel nice..."

Shirley is a mechanical enthusiast from the United States of Liberion. She is a thrill seeking speedster and her goal is to break the sound barrier. Before the war, she raced motorbikes and set a land speed record. When she joined the 501st she modified her Striker unit to help her with her goal of breaking the sound barrier. In addition to her obsession with speed she's also obsessed with cleanliness: even going so far as to have her personal bath shipped when she was transferred into the 501st. Her Striker Unit is based on the P-51 Mustang and her weapons of choice is the Browning Automatic Rifle M1918. She is named after American WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Yeager Charles "Chuck" Yeager]].

* AffectionateNickname: She is called Shirley by her teammates.
* DangerDeadpan: She has a calm demeanor and alerts others of potentially dangers situations without losing her temper. She even breaks the sound barrier in episode 5 of ''Strike Witches''.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: While not as destructive as most in the one scene she's shown driving, she drifts on mountainside dirt roads and leaps across chasms in a military supply truck. Francesca loves it, but Yoshika gets sick.
* FearlessFool: Which is probably why she's paired with Lucchini so often.
* FieryRedhead: She's strong, passionate, and outgoing, but she's only outspoken when dealing with certain people.
* HotBlooded: She doesn't back down from any challenge even going so far as to charge a neuroi in an unarmed plane.
* LittleBitBeastly: She takes on the features of a jack-rabbit; most likely a nod to her speed.
** Also maybe because U.S.A. G.I.(Usagi) means rabbit/bunny in Japanese. Could also be a ShoutOut to Manga/CatShitOne.
*** As mentioned below, [[FridgeBrilliance it could also be]] a reference to [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunny_Yeager Bunny]] Yeager.
* ParentalSubstitute: She's pretty much Luccini's mother.
* TheRival: She started a rivalry with Trude before Yoshika arrived.
* SuperSpeed: Her power lets her do anything faster. Her power plus the modifications she made to her striker unit allow her to break the sound barrier in flight.[[note]]In truth, Francesca made those modifications by accident when she tried to put it back together after breaking it.[[/note]]
* ShoutOut: Other than the obvious one to Chuck Yeager, there's one to the photographer Bunny Yeager.
** Also she says the P-51 Mustang, the fighter that her striker unit is based on, is her all-purpose weapon platform of choice.
* WrenchWench: Before joining the witches she worked on motorcycles and airplanes, consequentially her striker unit is heavily modified. Even after joining the witches she spends her spare time in the machine shop and making further modifications to her striker unit.

!!Captain Erica Hartmann

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/SakuraNogawa (JP), Creator/LuciChristian (EN)

-->"I don't really understand Hartmann. Everyone says she's an excellent witch, and she is amazing even in small scaled battles, but in her everyday life she is... how should I put it... umm... sloppy?" --Yoshika

Erica is one of the "Double Aces" from Karlsland, having the second highest kill score in the world at just over 200. However, her skill in the air and on duty is in sharp contrast with her disorganized and careless nature when off duty. She is a close acquaintance of Gertrud and Minna having served with them long before the creation of the 501st although, unlike Minna and Gertrud, she spends most of her time sleeping and eating, only getting up to investigate oddities and fight neuroi. Her striker unit is based on the Messerschmitt [=Bf109G-6=] and her weapon is the [=MG42=]. She is named after WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erich_Hartmann Erich Hartmann]], the highest scoring ace in history.

* BlowYouAway: Her power lets her create a vortex of air when she does a barrel roll. She calls this ability ''Sturm'' and it's powerful enough to blow holes through Neuroi.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Even more so than the rest of the 501st.
* [[SiblingYinYang Compatriot Yin Yang]]: Pretty much the complete opposite of Gertrud, to the latter's endless annoyance.
-->'''Gertrud''': And you call yourself a Karlsland soldier?!
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: On the ground, she's a lazy disorganized failure of a soldier. In the air, she's skilled, disciplined, and one of the best aces in the world. Both are the real her but most people see the disorganized failure before they see the second greatest witch in the Karlsland air force.
* DoABarrelRoll: Her power is an offensive barrel roll she calls "Sturm".
* DumbBlond: Averted. The girl's smart enough to be one of the best fighters despite sleeping most of the time.
* GenkiGirl: When she's awake, she's cheerful.
* HistoricalInjoke: Her sister is named Ursula, the name of Erich Hartmann's wife.
** Her striker unit has the black tulip pattern also present on Erich Hartmann's aircraft.
** The hubbub over her stealing Lucchini's underwear is based on Erich Hartmann accidentally taking Hitler's hat.
** Like Erica, Erich also had a problem with discipline.
** Her hairstyle is based on Erich's nickname "Bubi" (Erica's hair is in the ''Bubi''schnitt hairstyle)
* HeavySleeper: She seriously spends most of the series asleep, only appearing to investigate major disturbances and participate in battles. She even sleeps through an alarm clock and having books thrown at her.
* HyperactiveMetabolism: In ''TheMovie'', this is the only possible explanation about how she's able to use her special attack, despite unable to even fly a moment ago.
* ImpactSilhouette: When she uses Sturm to ram Neuroi, she leaves behind a perfectly circular hole.
* JerkassBall: In the first episode of Operation Victory Arrow, she distrusts the new military stuff of her twin sister, Ursula, possibly as a result of Gertrud's nearly fatal incident with the flawed jet striker prototype.
* LittleBitBeastly: Takes on the features of a Dachshund when she uses magic. However, unlike the other girls, she doesn't grow animal ears--the tips of her hair turn black instead.
* MildlyMilitary: While the other girls are at least trying to act like soldiers, Erica doesn't. Interestingly enough her real life counterpart had disciplinary problems as well although nowhere near as bad as her.
* NiceGirl: A cheerful, upbeat and friendly breath of fresh air who doesn't hold grudges and can get along with ''anybody.''
* NotAMorningPerson: Friendlier than most though about staying asleep... though mention the possibility of having candy and she'll wake up ''instantaneously.''
* PowerFist: [[spoiler:In ''TheMovie'', this is how she obliterate the Neuroi attacking her when she's out of guns. It looks and acts like [[{{Manga/Naruto}} Chidori & Rasengan]]: she actually has to board the Neuroi and punch it.]]
* RammingAlwaysWorks: Like Luccini she uses her magic to invoke this. Unlike Luccini she uses a vortex of wind for protection instead of a stack of shields.
%% * {{Sleepyhead}}
* SweetTooth: She wants sweets, they buy her an alarm clock instead.
* TrashOfTheTitans: Her room has a ton of garbage lying around such as bottles and clothes. Even her ''bed'' is full of random trash.

!!Captain Gertrud Barkhorn ("Trude")

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MieSonozaki (JP), Creator/StephanieSheh (EN)

-->"It feels like Barkhorn is always mad at me too. But well, compared to her, I'm still just an inexperienced little duckling, so I guess it's only natural." --Yoshika

Barkhorn is also one of the "Double Aces" of Karlsland. She holds the highest kill score over 250. She is disciplined and efficient: a very stereotypical German military personality. However, to her friends Minna and Erica, whom she has known for a long time, she's slightly more open and friendly although she often yells at Erica for lacking discipline. She cares deeply about her little sister Chris, who was injured before ''Strike Witches'' in a Neuroi attack. Her striker unit is based on the Focke-Wulf [=Fw190D-9=] and her weapons are two [=MG42=] machine guns with dual drum magazines. She is named after WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerhard_Barkhorn Gerhard Barkhorn]], the second highest scoring ace in history.

* ActionGirl: Although every witch is technically one, her love of fighting coupled with her skill in the air means she takes the prize.
* AffectionateNickname: She is called "Trude" by everyone around her.
* BigSisterInstinct: [[spoiler:Towards Yoshika after she rescues her in "Thanks". The reason is because Yoshika looks like her sister, Chris]].
* BloodKnight: Not only is she one of the best witches, she deeply enjoys her job.
* BrokenBird: She is deeply affected by her sister's injury to the point of keeping her distance from Yoshika because she resembles Chris. She comes out of it by the time "Thanks" rolls around.
* DeathSeeker: Barkhorn is nearly DrivenToSuicide fighting the Neuroi following Karlsland's attack. In "Thanks", Yoshika and Minna make her realize how stupid her actions are after Barkhorn is shot down.
* DoomedHometown: Her home country of Karlsland was destroyed by the Neuroi.
* DrivenToSuicide: Attempted in the second half of "Thanks" due to her depression stemming from Chris's injury, but it doesn't work out.
* DualWielding: When she decides to use her guns as clubs instead of guns.
* GunsAkimbo: Her normal battle loadout is two [=MG42=] machine guns.
* HeartbrokenBadass: She may be one of the most badass aces in the Karlsland Air Force along with Erica, but she was greatly affected by her sister's injury.
* HeroicBSOD: She goes through a long one after Chris was injured and Karlsland was destroyed.
* HeroicSecondWind: She undergoes one during the finale of "Thanks" after Yoshika heals her.
* IdiotBall: In "Thanks", despite being an ace in Karlsland, Barkhorn wasn't smart enough to realize that charging recklessly and attacking the Neuroi by herself is a ''very'' bad idea; she learns her lesson the hard way. This causes [[WhatTheHellHero Yoshika and Minna to call her out on this]] and also have a HeroicSecondWind.
* ItsAllMyFault: Trude laments that she was unable to protect her sister and her homeland, [[YouDidEverythingYouCould even knowing this wasn't her fault]]. Her HeroicBSOD worsened when Yoshika joins the Strike Witches, since she looks like her sister, to the point that she's DrivenToSuicide. She gets better by the time "Thanks" rolls around.
* IWillOnlySlowYouDown: In "Thanks", Barkhorn tells Yoshika that healing her will only slow Yoshika down, but Yoshika tells her that NoOneGetsLeftBehind.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She might have been a jerk when we first met her, but she cares about her homeland, her sister and her squamates.
* LeeroyJenkins: In "Thanks", she charges recklessly towards the Neuroi and tries to gun it down. It doesn't work and she gets shot down for her troubles.
* LittleBitBeastly: She takes on the features of a German Wirehaired Pointer when she changes.
* MyGreatestFailure: Not being able to rescue her sister, Chris, from a Neuroi attack in Karlsland.
* NighInvulnerability: Half her power seems to be her ability to strengthen objects allowing her to use her machine guns as clubs and not be crushed by a giant steel girder.
* OutOfCharacterMoment: Most of her dialogue in the English dub doesn't sound like a disciplined Karlsland soldier, given she is voiced by Creator/StephanieSheh.
* PistolWhipping: When she mixes it up toe to fin with the neuroi she sometimes uses her guns as clubs.
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Or in her case, "Proud Warrior Race Lady". And therefore constantly exasperated by Erica's laid back and informal attitude, seeing them as "a disgrace to the Karsland military."
* ReplacementGoldfish: Since Yoshika resembles her sister, she treats Yoshika coldly at first, because she doesn't want to see Yoshika hurt.
* ShooTheDog: Attempted with Yoshika in "Thanks", but it doesn't work out as she refuses to leave Barkhorn for dead.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: It's officially "Gertrud", but her name is sometimes spelled "Gertrude".
* SuperStrength: The other half of her power is strength exceeding the already boosted strength of most witches.
* ThatManIsDead: Or in her case, "This Sister is Dead." At the end of the first half of "Thanks", Barkhorn tells Minna that the sister Chris once knew is now dead and that she belongs to the Strike Witches now. She eventually gets over it by the end of the episode's second half.
* {{Tsundere}}: She becomes this after [[spoiler:Yoshika rescues her from certain death. She denies, but deeply cares for Yoshika. Lampshaded by Erica several times.]]

!! Lieutenant Aleksandra Vladimirovna Litvyak ("Sanya")

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MaiKadowaki (JP), Jennifer Forrester (EN)

-->"Sanya is a really kind girl! She's a little shy and quiet, but she's good at singing, and I think it's really great how she always does her best for all of us during the nights!" --Yoshika

Aleksandra, or Sanya as she prefers to be called, is a shy Orussian witch in the 501st that often handles night patrol duties alone. Described as "nocturnal" she doesn't have a lot of contact with the other members of the 501st, but is essential for the unit's safety. Because of her lack of contact with the rest of the squad, she is only close to Eila and Erica although her compassionate and submissive personality means she's kind and accepting of everybody in the 501st. Sanya's father was an accomplished musician and taught Sanya how to play the piano and sing. He even wrote a song for her entitled 'Sanya's Song'. When the Neuroi invaded Orussia, Sanya was separated from her father but maintains hope that he's still alive in Orussia and someday they'll be reunited. To remind herself, she often hums the song her father composed for her. Unlike the other girls, most of whom wield machine guns, she uses a rocket launcher called the Fliegerhammer which is based on the Fliegerfaust, a contemporary German anti-aircraft rocket launcher and M202 FLASH. In season one her striker unit is based on the [=MiG60=] a fictional fighter combining features of the [=MiG-1=], [=MiG-3=], and [=Yak-1=]: in ''Strike Witches 2'' her striker unit is based on the [=Yak-9=]. She is named after WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lydia_Litvyak Lydia Litvyak]], one of just two female aces in real life.

* DemotedToExtra: Sanya appears as a prominent character in the ''Strike Witches'' TV series and movie, she gets a minor appearance along with Eila in episode 7, 11, and 12 of ''Brave Witches''.
* DistaffCounterpart: Averted, she is the only one not based on a male ace.
* FriendlySniper: In essence. Her rocket launcher weapon means that she tends to attack from long range.
* EnemyDetectingRadar: This is her unique ability.
* HeavySleeper: [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], considering she's up all night patrolling.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Anyone familiar with the physics of flight or [[FirstPersonShooter sh]][[VideoGame/TeamFortress2 oo]][[{{VideoGame/Quake}} ters]] will tell you how difficult it is to hit a moving target with a slow-moving projectile from long range.
* LittleBitBeastly: She gains the features of a black cat when she uses her magic.
* LonersAreFreaks: She's afraid that her isolation will make other people perceive her this way.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: While she's limited to nine dumbfire rockets, she never seems to fire only one.
** Until episode 11 of ''Strike Witches 2'' where she just fired one rocket and ''it created a domino effect'' on the Neuroi. She even lampshades it herself.
* MissionControl: She can also use her power to broadcast information to witches (including spatial information and orders) as well as rebroadcast radio transmissions.
%%* MoeCouplet: With Eila.
* MundaneUtility: She uses her radar powers to listen to the radio at night.
* NiceGirl: Gives even Yoshika a run for her money in the niceness department. She's a very generous and polite person.
* TheLoad: During day missions she sometimes relies on Eila to move her around because she's practically dead on her feet.
* TheQuietOne: She rarely talks, although she's quick to scold Eila when she's being too malicious.
* ParentalAbandonment: She was separated from her father when the neuroi invaded.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: With Eila, if you don't consider it full-on LesYay.
* ShrinkingViolet: She is a fairly shy girl.
* SmallGirlBigGun: Her [=FliegerHummer=] is almost bigger than she is.
* VaporWear: Averted. She is indeed wearing something underneath those black tights, as can be seen when she undresses to go to bed.

!!Ensign/Lieutenant Eila Ilmatar Juutilainen ("Illu")

->'''Voiced by:''' Erika Nakai/Creator/AyuruOhashi (JP), Creator/CaitlinGlass (EN)

-->"Eila is quite mysterious. But at least I've come to understand that she cares a lot about Sanya. Seems like she almost never has used her protective shield during battles since she can predict the enemy's attacks. According to herself, she does it without thinking, “by intuition”, but... Isn't it amazing?" -- Yoshika

Eila is the top ace of the Suomus witch corps where she held the rank of captain (the rank indicated by the three roses on her collar). She is an expert at reading people, allowing her to predict her companions' actions and outwit her enemies. Her ability to read people combined with her ability to see the future means that in the air she is nearly untouchable. She is so used to her mastery of evasion that she relies exclusively on dodging and has difficulty raising a shield. Her striker unit is based on the Messerschmitt [=Bf109G-2=] and her weapon of choice is the Suomi KP/31 Sub-Machine Gun. She is named after the Finnish WWII ace [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilmari_Juutilainen Eino Ilmari Juutilainen]] the highest scoring non-German ace in history.

* ArrogantKungFuGuy: She's less extreme but relationships are definitely not her specialty. She just can't resist throwing insults into everything she says to anyone (except Sanya).
** Finns are stereotypically perceived as aloof and casually rude people by their neighbors, and Eila seems to follow those tropes pretty closely.
* CantActPervertedTowardALoveInterest: In spite of her doing perverted things around her squad mates, she never does it towards Sanya.
* ClingyJealousGirl: ''Very'' protective of Sanya.
* CombatClairvoyance: She can see three seconds into the future and uses this to her advantage in combat.
* DeclarationOfProtection: Gives a big one to Sanya in ''Strike Witches 2''.
* DeadpanSnarker: She gets a few moments of this in episode 6 of ''Strike Witches''.
* DemotedToExtra: Eila gets a minor appearance along with Sanya in episode 7, 11, and 12 of ''Brave Witches''.
* DodgeTheBullet: As a part of training, she dodges live anti-tank rounds fired by a sniper.
** Averted later that episode when Sanya angrily throws a pillow at her and she's too shocked to dodge it.
* DudeShesLikeInAComa: In episode 7 of ''Strike Witches 2'', [[spoiler: she tried to pull off Sanya's panties while she was sleeping, suspecting the bug neuroi was under her panties. Obviously, Sanya wakes up, with predictable results.]]
* FragileSpeedster: The fact that she is rarely prepared to raise a shield means a stray Neuroi beam would toast her. Fortunately, she is ''really'' good at dodging.
* HighSpeedMissileDodge: Or in her case, "High Speed Laser Dodge." She uses her ability to see several seconds into the future to dodge lasers.
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: Her reliance on dodging backfires spectacularly in ''Strike Witches 2''.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Since she knows where the enemies will be and where her shots will go, she doesn't even have to look to hit with perfect accuracy.
* InSeriesNickname: Illu.
* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: In [=FUNimation=]'s dub of the series, Eila's name is pronounced "eye-luh", instead of the traditional "ay-luh" with a "long a" sound as in the Finnish name.
* LightningBruiser: Her abilities let her dodge every attack coming her way and hit the enemy with uncanny accuracy.
* LittleBitBeastly: She takes on the features of a black fox when she uses magic.
* LoveableSexManiac: She's almost as bad as Lucchini.
-->'''Sanya:''' Eila is very dear to me. We’re always together... because that’s just the way it is. I didn’t even notice it until people around me told me. But I don’t like her habit of touching other girl’s bodies like she does! That’s not good, Eila! You never do those kinds of things to me... Why? Just blushing won’t help me understand...
* MoeCouplet: With Sanya.
* MysteriousWaif: Almost every character notes her odd behavior and mysterious air, even the ones that don't normally comment on character disposition. Also, she has the least backstory development of the entire cast, all we really know about her is that she's from Suomus and loves Sanya.
* NotWhatItLooksLike: When she [[spoiler: pull off Sanya's panties while she is sleeping and Sanya wake up with an angry face.]]
* PsychicPowers: Her power is the ability to see several seconds into the future, although her accuracy with Tarot cards is not nearly as good.
* RomanticTwoGirlFriendship: With Sanya, if you don't consider it full-on LesYay.
* SmugSuper: She's more than happy to rub the fact in that she doesn't need shields, which are critical to every other witch.
* TarotMotifs: She keeps a tarot deck in one of her belt pouches and she occasionally reads people fortunes.
* {{Tomboy}}: Aside from using the gender-neutral "watashi" to refer to herself, Ella exclusively uses ''masculine'' vocabularies and syntaxes in the Japanese version.
* {{Tsundere}}: She often tries to pass off her presence at several engagements as just chance, much like a tsundere would her acts of kindness. No one buys it, though.
** In the end of ''Strike Witches'' when [[spoiler: the 501st JFW is dissolved, she tries to deny that she returned to the base because of Yoshika. Sanya reveals her true intentions.]]
* WaifProphet: She's a mysterious little girl and her powers revolve around reading the future.
* {{Wingman}}: In combat, she takes this role more often than not.

[[folder:502nd Joint Fighter Wing "Brave Witches"]]

The 502nd Joint Fighter Wing, also known as the "Brave Witches", are based in Petersburg, Orussia. They are nicknamed the "Breaker Witches" due to their penchant for damaging and destroying striker units.

* CaptainCrash: They are infamous due to the amount of Striker Units they have destroyed in action, though most of them can be attributed to the "Crusher Trio" of Krupinski, Kanno and Nipa.
* EarlyBirdCameo: All of the 502nd, sans Hikari, appear in ''The Movie'', which was produced years before ''Brave Witches''. Nipa and Sasha also appear in episode 3 of ''Operation Victory Arrow''.
* ForegoneConclusion: Anyone who has seen the movie will know that the 502nd JFW will survive the events of ''Brave Witches'' and Operation Victory Arrow.
* MultinationalTeam: Unlike the Strike Witches, though, the countries where they come from is a little bit limited (in particular, three witches from Fuso/Japan as well as three from Karlsland/Germany).
** Gallia (France): Georgette
** Fuso (Japan): Hikari, Sadako, Naoe
** Karsland (Germany): Rall, Rossmann, Krupinski
** Orussia (Russia): Sasha
** Suomus (Finland): Nipa
* SeizaSquirm: Their preferred form of punishment for misbehaving, administrated by Sasha. The reasoning for this was due to a time when Sadako tried to teach Sasha seiza as a meditation technique, but she considered it being pure torture.
* TheVoiceless: Aside from Sasha and Nipa, the 502nd JFW witches don't speak in ''The Movie'' due to it being [[JustifiedTrope made long before they were cast]].

!! Lieutenant Hikari Karibuchi

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AiKakuma (JP), Madeleine Morris (EN)

Hikari Karibuchi is an aspiring Witch born in Sasebo, Fuso. Looking up to the older sister Takami, she enrolled in Sasebo Aviation Preparatory School to hopefully one day to become a great Witch like her sister. While not a particularly skillful one, Hikari possesses a lot of stamina. When her school got an order to send Witches to fight in the war, she JumpedAtTheCall and was eventually picked to go to Suomus to be on the back lines. However, due to an accident during her and her sister's trip to Europe, she took her sister's place on being part of the Brave Witches. She inherits her sister's experimental Shiden Model-4 Striker Unit nicknamed "Chidori" and uses a Type 99 13mm machine gun. She is named after the younger sister of Takashi Oshibuchi.

* BeYourself: Episode 4 has it drilled into her that she cannot be like Takami - she needs to play to her own strengths.
* [[BigBrotherWorship Big Sister Worship]]: She looks up to Takami and wants to be just like her.
* ClassicalAntiHero: Her beginnings as a Witch are not pretty. She has really low grades from school, technically failed her test to be on the front lines but was selected for saving Miya, doesn't have enough magic to properly operate Chidori and is seen as a hindrance by most of Brave Witches.
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: Unlike the pacifistic Yoshika who would prefer not to fight unless necessary and only went along with Mio to find her father, Hikari has aspired to be a great Witch like her big sister and JumpedAtTheCall when it was presented to be on the front lines. However, while Yoshika showed her having potential in her first flight, Hikari shows a lot of problems in the beginning of her journey even if she has trained to be a Witch for around a year.
* {{Determinator}}: She refuses to lose her ambitions and goals, as shown during her training in Episode 4. Not even Kanno's insults slow her down.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfWoman: In episode 9, she tells Kanno to get a grip when the latter feels that their mission to protect their supplies has failed.
* IneptMage: Due of her low mana pool, she has hard time working as a Witch initially. It is until Rossmann realizes that she can focus her magic powers onto a single task at a time that Hikari starts getting good at fighting.
* LittleBitBeastly: She gains squirrel traits when using magic.
* LittleSisterHeroine: Is Takami's younger sister and the protagonist of ''Brave Witches''.
* MagicalEye: She has a magic ability called Contact Eye, which allows her to see the core of a Neuroi if she touches the Neuroi in question.
* VitriolicBestBuds: She becomes friends with Kanno after the latter gets over her envy in episode 4.

!!Ensign/Lieutenant Naoe Kanno ("Nao")

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RieMurakawa (JP), Mikaela Krantz (EN)

Naoe Kanno is a short but strong-headed Witch from Fuso and a JerkWithAHeartOfGold. When she was young, she was a really obedient child with a keen sense of literature. But when she started to train to become a Witch, she started adopting a more aggressive personality, adopting a fighting style of fighting until you simply can't fight anymore. While this does make her undertake actions which might cause her to crash often, she still proves to be a force to be reckoned with. Her Striker Unit is based on the Yamanishi Shiden Model 21 and she uses a Type 99 13mm machine gun. She is named after the Japanese pilot Naoshi Kanno.
* BadassBookworm: She studied literature before she became a pilot.
* {{Bokukko}}: She speaks with the masculine pronoun "Ore."
* DislikesTheNewGuy: A gender-swapped variation. Kanno dislikes Hikari upon joining the 502nd JFW. She eventually loosens up on her towards the end of the fourth episode.
* {{Determinator}}: She refuses to lose against the Neuroi so much that she gets aggressive and fights until she becomes exhausted.
* FullContactMagic: The application of her special magic ability is to compress her shield to the size where she can outright punch through Neuroi.
* GreenEyedMonster: She envies Hikari when she enters the 502nd.
* HairTriggerTemper: Kanno can get angry quite easily and with minimal provocation.
* HeroicBSOD: She goes through a brief one when Sasha gets injured in episode 9.
* InSeriesNickname: "Nao".
* IrrationalHatred: At first, she is envious of Hikari because Kanno was [[spoiler:unable to help Takami during their trip to Europe]]. Hikari was in no position to fight, especially when the only Striker Unit she had was a training model so her [[spoiler:helping Takami to defend against the Neuroi]] was out of the question. [[spoiler:She gets over this by the time Episode 4 rolls around]].
* IShallTauntYou: In episode 4, she deliberately trash-talks Hikari as a failure while the latter's struggling to retrieve the hat. Fortunately for her, Hikari finally retrieves the hat.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She may be a jerk to Hikari at first, but she is a very generous person overall.
* LeeroyJenkins: She always charges into battle against Neurois and gets her Striker Unit trashed in the process.
* LittleBitBeastly: She gains traits from a bulldog when using magic.
* MyGreatestFailure: [[spoiler:Not being able to save Takami during their trip to Europe]].
* TheNapoleon: She is one of shortest members of the team, and is also the most aggressive of everyone.
* {{Otaku}}: For Gallian literature.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: She's the shortest member of the team, but she can still kick ass when she needs to.
* {{Tomboy}}: If the way she speaks doesn't prove it, the way she acts certainly will.
* TrashTalk: She delivers a major one to Hikari in episode 4 to serve as a motivation for the latter to retrieve the hat.
* {{Tsundere}}: Even after she doesn't envy Hikari anymore, she still acts rather harsh when she is brought up, even if she cares for her. At least until episode 9.
* UseYourHead: After Hikari snaps Kanno out of her funk in episode 9, the latter headbutts Hikari and agrees to help destroy the Neuroi.
* VitriolicBestBuds: She becomes friends with Hikari over time, which eventually culminates in Kanno helping the latter destroy the Neuroi in episode 9.

!! Master Sergeant Nikka Edvardine Katajainen ("Nipa")

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NatsumiTakamori (JP), Krystal [=LaPorte=] (EN)

Nikka Edvardine "Nipa" Katajainen is a member of the Suomus Air Force and is part of the same squadron as her friend Eila. She is a bit of a tomboy and a bit guileless at times. She is known for her really bad luck which has led to her crashing numerous Striker Units in the past to the point where she is pulled out of the front-lines to operate on the base. That being said, she still has the numbers to prove that she is ace material and her accidents haven't done harm to anyone else. Her Striker Unit is based on Messerschmitt [=BF109K-4=] and she uses an [=MG42=] machine gun. She is named after the Finnish pilot [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nils_Katajainen Nils Edward Katajainen]], who was also nicknamed "Nipa" and was known for crashing multiple crafts but surviving with minimal injuries.
* BornUnlucky: Compared to Kanno and Krupinski, her reputation of being in the Crusher Trio is out or complete lack of luck. in ''The Movie'', she was struck down by lightning out of nowhere, for example.
* ButtMonkey: Eila ''enjoys'' making a fool out of her, not to mention the fact that she tends to crash her Striker a lot, much to Sasha's dismay
%%* {{Foil}}: To both Eila ''AND'' Sasha.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: On one hand, she is the unluckiest member of the team, constantly getting into crashes. On the other hand, she has hyper-regenerative abilities which allow her to heal almost any injury she receives in an instant.
* IdenticalStranger: Side-material gives her one in Hanna Wind, the two physically differing only in eye color (Hanna's are green), familiar (Eurasian eagle-owl), and breast size (Hanna's are smaller). Hanna has apparently even been mistaken for Nipa on one occasion (which Hanna [[ForTheLulz just rolled with]]).
* InSeriesNickname: Aside from "Nipa", she's also called "Jinxed" Katajainen and "Crasher O'Hare the Second", due to her rivaling Katharine O'Hare of the 507th in terms of crashing Striker Units.
* LittleBitBeastly: Gains snow weasel traits when using magic.
* {{Tomboy}}: She has a mannish appearance and has rather unladylike mannerisms. She also used to be something if a delinquent, but her friends got her out of that phrase.
* VitriolicBestBuds: Is this with Sasha and to a certain extent Eila.
* WalkingTechbane: Whereas the other two members of the "Crasher Trio" are as such because they either get too close to the enemy for their own good (Kanno) or lose sight of where enemy fire is coming from and/or overtax their unit (Waltrud), a lot of Nipa's crashes are mostly because her Strikers just stop working for no reason other than she being the one piloting them.

!!Captain Aleksandra Ivanovna Pokryshkin ("Sasha")

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/YumiHara (JP), Creator/MonicaRial (EN)

Aleksandra Ivanovna "Sasha" Pokryshkin is Orussia's greatest ace. Her engineer father made her get familiar with mechanics early on in her life to the point where she is said to have a "mecha fetish". Aside from being the combat officer of Brave Witches, she is also an engineer and a combat instructor due to her achievements in the military. That being the case, she is a perfectionist and structured, causing her to clash with some of her teammates and gets headaches for the amount of Striker Units she needs to fix. Her Striker Unit is a [=MiG-60=] like with Sanya but repainted brown, and she uses a [=DP28=] light machine gun. She is named after Alexander Ivanovich Pokryshkin, a Russian ace who was called "Engineer" in his youth.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: While Sasha might be extremely harsh to Nipa due to her crashing her Striker Unit constantly, she does really care for her well-being and is harsh because she feels like she has to.
* InSeriesNickname: "Sasha".
* TheLancer: She is the combat commander of the Brave Witches.
* LittleBitBeastly: She gets traits from a polar bear when using magic.
* OneSteveLimit: Subverted, despite having different nicknames to differentiate them, she shares her full first name with fellow Orussian Witch, Sanya V. Litvyak.
* {{Otaku}}: She's a huge fan of machines, to the point she is said to have a mecha fetish.
* PhotographicMemory: Her inherent magic is called Image Memorization, which allows her to memorize practically anything and recall it even years after printing it into her memory. She particularly uses this in regards to the blueprints to the wing's Striker Units to easily tell what needs fixing.
* TraumaInducedAmnesia: [[spoiler:When she was visiting her grandma's home in Petersburg while young, she awoke to her magic when she was trying to stop a runaway car from running her over. Her discovering that she was a Witch shocked her to the point that she locked her memories of visiting Petersburg away]].
* WrenchWench: She is the mechanic of the team, and has had a fascination with machinery even since she was young.

!! Lieutenant Waltrud Krupinski ("Countess")

->'''Voiced by:''' Kayo Ishida (JP), Creator/FeleciaAngelle (EN)

Waltrud Krupinski is one of Karsland's veteran aces. Self-claimed "Countess", she is a hard-drinking hedonist and womanizer, but generally easygoing. She has a tendency to discard personal safety to line up her attacks, causing her to get into many crashes. Even so, she has a fairly lengthy military history and has the skills to be considered one of the top aces of Karsland. Her Striker Unit is based on Messerschmitt [=BF109G2=] and she uses an [=StG-44=] assault rifle. Her namesake is the German pilot Walter Krupinski.
* BadassGay: She is pretty much the only character in the series who is confirmed to be gay as a ButchLesbian, and she is one of top aces of Karsland.
* DarkSkinnedBlonde: Has dirty blonde hair and dark skin. [[AmbiguouslyBrown Whenever it is natural or not]] is unknown.
* HandsomeLech: Is as beautiful as she is lecherous.
* InSeriesNickname: "Countess", though she does tend to get called "Fake Countess" at times. She is also called "Earl".
* LethalChef: When Sadako goes missing in Episode 5, she takes up the role in cooking for everyone else still in the place. She ends up cooking some sort of purple soup made with caviar what makes almost everyone puke besides [[NervesOfSteel Rall]], though she doesn't have high opinions on the result.
* LovableSexManiac: Some of her antics comes from her desire to be with particularly cute girls. For example, she was motivated to go to a mission when she was shown a picture of the Britannian witch escorting the fleet and wanted to meet her.
* SuperMode: Her unique magic skill "Magic Boost" seems to allow her to overclock her Striker Unit to allow her to move faster, albeit the Unit can only last so long before acting up.

!!Master Sergeant Edytha Rossmann

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/HiromiIgarashi (JP), Jill Harris (EN)

A veteran Karlslandian Witch, Edytha is a bit of an oddity for one from Karlsland due of her low body count. She suffered a serious illness when she was young which halted her growth. Because of her frail body, she uses a really strategic fighting style which involves making a single decisive blow on the enemy and following with a quick escape, which has granted the status as an ace fighter, though one with a rather low kill-count compared to other Karlsland aces, and a highly-valued instructor. She spends most of her time being a teacher to upcoming Witches, which have included some of the world's top aces like Erica Hartmann. Her Strike Unit is based on Messerschmitt [=BF109G2=] and her weapons include [=MG42=] machine gun and Fliegerhammer rocket launcher. Her namesake is the German pilot Edmund Roßmann.
* BadassTeacher: She teaches witches from time to time, and is able to whoop their asses at once should they ever cross her.
* CunningLikeAFox: Her familiar is a fox and since her body can't handle high-speed dogfighting, she had to develop a fighting style that focuses on decisive blows and quick escapes.
* DrillSergeantNasty: She can be tough when she is training witches.
* GoodIsNotSoft: She is an easily approachable person. And yet, she has no qualms with putting witches through hard situations to get them to learn quickly.
* IllGirl: She has a fragile body resulting from an illness since childhood.
* LittleBitBeastly: She gains traits from a red fox while using magic.
* InSeriesNickname: Paula.
* {{Kitsune}}: A WhatIf idea by fans is that her true guardian animal is a kitsune, but due of her falling ill, it couldn't develop completely. [[http://strikewitches.wikia.com/wiki/File:Edytha_and_FooFigher.jpg Apparently Fumikane believes the same.]]
* OlderThanSheLooks: Even though she is the oldest member of the Brave Witches, she is one of shortest members of the team. That is because she became seriously ill in her youth, halting her growth.
* SternTeacher: She may be the Brave Witches's resident DrillSergeantNasty, but she does care for them, and does wish that they will surpass her one day.
* TrainingFromHell: She makes Hikari undergo one of these, making her climb a pillar to retrieve a hat from the top using her magic in one week. [[spoiler:Hikari eventually succeeds on the last day]].

!!Captain/Major Gundula Rall

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/RinaSato (JP), Rachel Robinson (EN)

Gundura Rall is the third-greatest Witch in the world. She acts like a brash and frank older sister, but she isn't overly serious. During the evacuation of Karlsland, however, she was hit when she couldn't focus, which led to her back being fractured. She went through extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation to get back in shape, but she still needs to wear a corset with magically-woven fibers to prevent the old injuries from flaring up in combat. Her Striker Unit is based on the Messerschmitt [=BF109G2=] and her weapon is the [=MG42=] machine gun. Her namesake is the German ace Günther Rall, the third greatest ace in the world.
* TheAce: She is humanity's third greatest ace, even after the accident in Karlsland.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: She is the Brave Witches's commander and one of the top Witches in the world.
* BadassInCharge: Of the Brave Witches.
* TheCaptain: She is the leader of the 502nd JFW.
* ContraltoOfDanger: Provided by both Creator/RinaSato and Rachel Robinson.
* HandicappedBadass: She was injured during the evacuation of Karlsland and even after medical treatment and rehabilitation, she needs to wear a magical corset to prevent old injuries from flaring up. Even so, she is humanity's 3rd greatest ace, just behind Barkhorn and Hartmann.
* LittleBitBeastly: She gets wolf traits when using her magic.
* NervesOfSteel: She is always calm and collective about the situation. Even eating [[LethalChef Krupinski's]] cooking has her just commenting that it is bad without giving a reaction. She even keeps her wits about long enough to give orders to Nipa as everybody else is essentially paralyzed from laughter due to eating laughing mushrooms.
* NotSoAboveItAll: She even eating Edytha's caviar in the OVA.
* OfCorsetHurts: Inverted, she needs her corset to keep her old injuries from hurting.

!!Sergeant/Major Georgette Lemare ("Georgie")

->'''Voiced by:''' Haruka Terui (JP), Creator/NatalieHoover (EN)

Georgette Lemare is a Witch born in Gallia and lived most of her childhood in her family's inn. She is a sweet and gentle soul, but also world-wise and straight forwards, and also a good cleaner. During the evacuation of Gallia from the Neuroi attack, she quickly manifested her powers and enrolled into the military alongside many other Witches-to-be. While not a particular stand-out, she has a defensive fighting style and her healing magic is crucial in any team. Her Striker Unit is based on Arsenal VG-39 and uses a [=DP28=] light machine gun. She is named after French ace pilot Georges Lemare.
* BigEater: Due of her healing magic causing her metabolism into overdrive, she constantly needs to eat to keep herself in shape.
%%* CombatMedic
* GirlishPigtails: She has shoulder-length ones, which makes her seem the girliest of the Brave Witches.
* GirlyGirl: She at least feels like she is a girl alongside soldiers.
* HealingHands: She can heal, but her body temperature increases when she does it. She can use this to her benefit to warm other people and machinery up, however.
* HyperactiveMetabolism: An odd literal (and non-video game-specific) example, as her healing magic really does speed up her metabolism.
* InSeriesNickname: "Georgie".
* ItsAllMyFault: [[spoiler:She blames herself for her inability to cure Takami to the point that she is unable to face Hikari. After Hikari thanks her for saving Takami's life, she was able to get over that mentality.]]
* LittleBitBeastly: She gets traits from a Persian cat when using her magic.
* MyGreatestFailure: Not being able to [[spoiler:fully cure Takami]].
* NiceGirl
* SeriousBusiness: She takes winter cleaning ''very seriously''.

!!Ensign Sadako Shimohara ("Moha-san/Sada-chan")

->'''Voiced by:''' Marin Mizutani (JP), Creator/DawnMBennett (EN)

Sadako Shimohara is a Fusoan Witch originating from Onomichi, Hiroshima and was born into a family of scholars. Warm and nurturing, she is almost like a mother figure to the team, especially with her cooking. She has had extensive training from multiple places, including from Mio Sakamoto and from Karslandian night witches. She has all-around excellent skills in spotting targets and wilderness survival, though she has doubts about her abilities. Her Striker Unit is modelled after Yamanishi Shiden Model 21 and uses a Type 99 13mm machine gun. She is named after a Japanese ace pilot Uehara Sadao.
* CutenessProximity: She absolutely adores cute things (including some of her teammates) and wants to hug them to the point that she borders into "creepy old man" territory.
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: She honestly thinks that she is only good at fighting Neuroi, and if she can't fight then she's useless. A good smack from Georgette snaps her out from it when she blames her for failing to defeat a Neuroi and getting Hikari injured.
* InSeriesNickname: "Moha-san" (Sada-chan for Georgette).
* LittleBitBeastly: She gets traits from a Fusoan rabbit when using her magic.
* MagicalEye: Her special magic gives her both telescopic and night vision.
* TeamChef: She is de facto chef of the Brave Witches.
* TeamMom: The most mother-like figure of the Brave Witches with her caring attitude and her passion for cooking. Funny how she is one of youngest members of the team in terms of when she joined.

[[folder:Other Witches]]
!! Lieutenant Junko Takei

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MasumiAsano (JP), Creator/KaraEdwards (EN)

Junko is originally from Fuso Imperial Navy and now is the commander of 504th JFW. She is an old friend of Sakamoto and fought alongside when they were stationed in Libau together. Takei, Sakamoto, and Yoshiko Nishizawa were called "Three crows of Libau" for their outstanding performance in Libau. Her special ability allows her to raise her comrades' morale. She also is the protagonist of Nintendo DS game and one of the main characters in Maidens of the Heavens. In the anime, she appears as the commander of 504th JFW in episodes 1, 3, and 12 of ''Strike Witches 2''.

!!Captain Hanna-Justina Marseille

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ShizukaIto (JP), Creator/ColleenClinkenbeard (EN)

Marseille, also known as "Star of Africa", is yet another super ace from Karlsland. Originally from Karlsland Afrika Corps, she now belongs to the "Afrika" Joint Fighter Wing, which was practically organized just for her. She has incredible combat skill which is said to be one of the best in Allied Forces, matching that of Erika. Though her score is only up to 200 kills, Neurois in Africa are much larger than the Europe, making this score worth three times as much. Marseille is originally from the semi-official Doujinshi series "Afrika" which, as the name suggests, focuses on the North African campaign of the Strike Witches universe. She also makes an appearance in episode 10 of ''Strike Witches 2''.

* ACupAngst: Or in her case, "C-Cup Angst." Her breasts are big, but she is envious of Charlotte's, who're even bigger.
* ADayInTheLimelight: She makes a prominent appearance in "500 Overs".
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She is very arrogant and thinks she is the best witch of the world but has a good heart and cares for others.
* TheRival: She sees Erika as her only rival, though [[UnknownRival Erika couldn't care less.]]
* SmugSuper: She's one of the top aces in the world and a bit of a jerk about it.

!!Sergeant Shizuka Hattori

->'''Voiced by:''' Creator/AyaUchida (JP), Creator/CristinaValenzuela (EN)

Shizuka is a newer member of the Witches who idolizes Yoshika. Without much knowledge of war, she sticks strictly to the rules due to her being raised by a military family. She is given the role of accompanying Yoshika in her journey through Europe but is very shocked and dismayed at Yoshika's demeanor which seemingly is disgraceful for her rank. This comes to a head when she disproves even of Yoshika's [[ChronicHeroSyndrome desire to help everyone she can]]. Over the course of the film, she mellows out considerably when she meets the rest of the 501st. Her ace archetype is Kazushi Uto.

* ApologizesALot: Does this to Yoshika initially, and again at Perrine's chateau.
* BrokenPedestal: At first, she has a major case of this once she discovers that Yoshika disregards military rules if the latter needs to.
* ByTheBookCop: She is very clear on following orders and rules due to her being raised as a MilitaryBrat... At least until she learns from Perrine about what Yoshika really is.
* DefrostingIceQueen: Upon meeting Yoshika, she is shocked by her idol's [[ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight disregard for military rules]] [[IDidWhatIHadToDo if she needs to]], as well as her un-officer-like behavior (read: [[WhatDoYouMeanItsNotHeinous cooking dinner and swabbing the deck]]). Over the course of the film, Shizuka meets the rest of the 501st and is convinced to lighten up, especially after meeting Perrine.
* EtTuBrute: At first, she finds it hard to stomach the fact that Yoshika is willing to disobey military rules so she can bring out positive results.
* FanGirl: She is a fan of the 501st witches, particularly Yoshika.
* LethalChef: Shizuka's first attempt at cooking miso soup didn't go that well in Gallia.
* LittleBitBeastly: Takes the ears and tail of a Japanese wolf dog when using magic.
* MilitaryBrat: Shizuka's family served in the Fuso military.
* NotSoDifferent: Her relationship with Yoshika is very similar to how Perrine first met Yoshika.
* NewMeat: In her first year at the Fuso Naval Academy. Her first combat sortie consists of engaging a Neuroi alone during the second half of the film. She does remarkably well until she gets shot down.
* RebuiltPedestal: She comes to respect Yoshika for what she is towards the end of the film.
* ToBeLawfulOrGood: In the second half of ''The Movie'', she becomes conflicted with obeying orders or breaking them like Yoshika. In the end, she sides with Yoshika after meeting the rest of the 501st.
* TookALevelInIdealism: After spending part of the movie conflicted with Yoshika's mentality, her faith in Yoshika is restored towards the end of the film.

!!Takami Karibuchi

->'''Voiced by:''' Rie Suegara (JP), Creator/AmberLeeConnors (EN)

Takami Karibuchi is considered the pride and joy of Sasebo, Fuso and is part of the 508th Joint Fighter Wing "Mighty Witches". She is known for her ability to rush into battle and flawlessly shoot her opponents down with extreme precision. Even so, she is always optimistic on things, and can talk to anyone regardless of their ranking and can think of a solution regardless of the situation. Her biggest strive for glory was when she fought in the retreat from Libau. Her Striker Unit is based on Yamanishi Shiden Model 11 but was eventually given the experimental Shiden Model-4, which she nicknamed "Chidori" and uses a Solothurn S-18/100 anti-tank rifle. Her namesake is Takashi Oshibuchi.

* CoolBigSis: To Hikari.
* DangerousForbiddenTechnique: Her "Absolute Eye" technique allows her to target and shoot Neuroi from the skies like flies, but causes intense amount of stress to ones body and mind that alone it can be borderline suicidal.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has a rather sizable scar below her left breast what runs into her left side what she gained during a battle in Libao.
* ICallItVera: Non-weapon version, she calls her Strike Unit "Chidori".
* LittleBitBeastly: She gains traits from a Red-Crowned Crane when using magic.
* MagicalEyes: She can detect Neuroi cores through their heat signatures. And unlike Mio, she can freely turn her ability on and off. [[spoiler:She also has "Absolute Eye" technique where she can see multiple Neuroi cores at a time.]]
* PutOnABus: Gets thrown into a bus in Episode 2 due to the injuries she received while fighting Neuroi and being forced to use Absolute Eye causing her to go into a coma. Takami comes out of her coma by the time episode 9 rolls around.

!!The Neuroi
A mysterious alien force that arrived from space one day and started wrecking havoc. Their goals are unknown.
* AlienInvaders: They invade our planet in the late 1930s, signaling the start of the Europa Wars.
* AttackItsWeakPoint: Every non-drone Neuroi has a core. If the core is destroyed, so is the main body and all drones created by the Neuroi.
* BeamSpam: Most of the time, large-scale Neuroi attack by firing laser barrages, with occasionally focusing their firepower for a single, powerful laser.
* CuteMonsterGirl: The Neuroi Girls near the end of ''Strike Witches'' and the beginning of ''Strike Witches 2'' are [[FetishFuel really attractive to some people.]] Too bad the two that show up [[BeamSpam get]] [[DeathFromAbove blasted]] [[DroppedABridgeOnHim unceremoniously]] [[ThereIsNoKillLikeAnOverkill with extreme prejudice.]]
* HighTechHexagons: Even though they are based on time appropriate vehicles, for the most part, the hexagonal structure they have to make them look futuristic. And the fact that they can shoot lasers from them doesn't hurt.
* MechanicalLifeforms: The Neuroi are vaguely mechanical, and mostly use forms based on vehicles and such, with some exceptions.
* SealedEvilInACan: The first known Neuroi which invaded the Earth were sealed beneath an Egyptian city. While even knowing about the existence of the seal would break it, it was only broken during the Second Neuroi War.
* StarfishAliens: They feed on the land's soil for energy, and even though they are MechanicalLifeforms, they show little to no mechanical structure from the inside. Some pictures in the film seem to indicate that Neuroi used to take animalistic appearances like those resembling [[Myth/ClassicalMythology Hydra]], {{Orochi}}, [[{{Youkai}} Tsuchigumo]] and dragons.
* UpToEleven: One Neuroi late in ''Brave Witches'' turns out to have a core ''inside its core''. Destroying the main core still causes it and any drones to explode... and then it just reforms as it would from any other damage.

!!General Trevor Maloney
-> '''Voiced by:''' Creator/YosukeAkimoto (JP), Cole Brown (EN)

Maloney is a general who serves in the Britannian RAF. He was well against the Witch program since it was created by his political rival. He's also the commander of the 1st Assault Unit codenamed "Warlock" and funded an advanced project to render the Witches obsolete.
* AscendedExtra: [[spoiler: Is a playable character in the ShootEmUp doujin, ''flying'' the Warlock.]]
* {{Expy}}: He's based on the Royal Air Force general Trafford Leigh-Mallory.
* FantasticRacism: His contempt towards the Witches may not be just because they were the brain child of his rival, but probably because they're... well, witches.
* FatalFlaw: His low regard for the Witches in general and use of the "Warlock" technology proves to be his undoing.
* HeManWomanHater: Blatantly so, his low regard for the Witches could be, besides being created by his rival, that of their gender and they should not be in the frontlines "stealing" valor from men. Notably, after [[spoiler:disbanding the Witches and taking over their base of operations]], his team consists almost entirely of men with not a single female seen amongst them.
* HistoricalVillainUpgrade: He is an EvilBrit and a MeanBrit SmugSnake, unlike Leigh-Mallory in real life.
* TheNeidermeyer: He's an EvilBrit general with an IrrationalHatred of the Strike Witches.
* StayInTheKitchen: See HeManWomanHater above.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: [[spoiler:It remains to be seen what happened to him after the final Neuroi battle in Britannia]].

[[folder:Other Characters]]
!! Ursula Hartmann

->'''Voiced by''': Creator/SakuraNogawa (JP), Creator/LuciChristian (EN)

Erica's identical twin sister. A brilliant engineer who designs and build strike units, including a Me-262 jet striker prototype used by Trude. She is introduced at the end of episode 4 of ''Strike Witches 2'', where she offers the 501st a sack of potatoes as an apology for the super jet striker unit being unstable. Formerly a member of the 507JFW, AKA the Suomus Misfits Squadron.

* DistaffCounterpart: Averted, as she is based on the wife of Erich Hartmann.
* LittleBitBeastly: Like Erica, she takes on the features of a Dachshund, with the tips of her hair turning black instead of growing animal ears, when she uses magic.
* {{Meganekko}}: One of her features that distinguish her from her sister.
* MadeOfExplodium: Some of the things she builds tend to blow up, as shown at the end of ''Strike Witches 2'' (may also explain why the jet striker prototype she built for Gertrud eventually self-destructed).
* NumericalThemeNaming: Hilariously played with when some of the protagonists first meet her and call her "Erica #2", not knowing she is Erica's sister.

!! The Bears
A bear cub and its mom, they appear in the first episodes of seasons one and two, as well as the first half of the film. They're bears. Also, they're the only reoccurring non-witch non-antagonist characters.
%%* BearsAreBadNews: In the first season.
%%* BearyFunny: In the second season.
* BrickJoke: The bear cub is all grown up in TheMovie and scares poor Micchan... initially.
