!Spider Riders
[[folder:Hunter Steele]]
->Voiced by: Creator/MotokoKumai (Japanese), Creator/JulieLemieux (English)

The [[{{Keet}} excitable]] [[TheHero Hero]], who gets transported to the Inner World, something [[JumpedAtTheCall he takes extremely well]]. Impulsive and sometimes irritating, his boundless enthusiasm can be an asset.
----
* AnimeHair: Of the blistering pink variety.
* AudienceSurrogate: He's new to the Inner World, thus things need to be explained to him, as well as viewers.
* BadBadActing: Hunter's performance during the play about the hero Brade/Quake; he gets so nervous that his speech turned monotone.
* BattleCouple: With Corona. While not a couple, they consider themselves battle partners (in the dub, as the term doesn't exist in the Japanese version) and clearly have feelings for each other.
* BeginnersLuck: Refreshingly subverted. He's not very skilled in the early episodes, nor should he be as an Earthen with no fighting experience. In his first battle with one of the Big Four, Corona deals the final blow, and he gets trashed in his fight with Igneous in episode 3.
* BigEater: Especially in the dub where he apparently [[ExtremeOmnivore eats plates]].
* BoldExplorer: He states several times in the sub that he's an adventurer. This is why he pursued the Inner World in the first place. However, since he fulfills his goal of finding it in the first episode, this stops coming up much, and he focuses more on being a hero.
* ChronicHeroSyndrome: It gets to the point that [[spoiler: he wants to save the Invectids/Insectors, after realizing that they're being oppressed.]]
* CluelessChickMagnet: Hunter has not one, not two, but possibly ''three'' girls after him. And he doesn't notice it.
* DeadpanSnarker: Occasionally, though he's not nearly as bad as Shadow.
--> "(''To Shadow'') Yes mother."
* DitzyGenius: Hunter has little in the way of common sense, but he's shown himself to be surprisingly perceptive of others, and incredibly proficient when it comes to creating strategies in the heat of battle.
* FamilyThemeNaming: Only in the Japanese version. His grandfather's name is Trigger, which keeps up the hunting theme. However, the dub renamed him Digger.
* FearlessFool: He was one at the start of the series, but displays true courage when trying to protect the people of Nuuma from Stags, allowing him access to the third [[PlotCoupons Oracle Keys]] power.
* MagneticHero: The Spider Riders would fall apart without him. It also makes him something of TheHeart.
* ObliviousToLove: He's clueless to romance in general.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: With Corona. These are their color schemes down to their spiders.
* RedIsHeroic: He's a redhead (well, pinkish red) and wears a red vest when un-transfomed. Subverted when he transforms, where he wears mostly blue and has a blue spider as well.
* SheIsNotMyGirlfriend: He and Corona will both deny this.
* SpidersAreScary: Hunter initially suffered from severe arachnophobia; though this is more prominent in the novels than the anime. This kicked into high gear when he encountered the giant spiders of the Inner World, and was forced to overcome his fear in order to become a Spider Rider.
* SuperMode: Undergoes this along with Shadow when they use the Oracle Keys.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: He's willing to forgive anyone and give them a second chance, including Grasshop, Buguese, Beerain, Stags, [[spoiler:and [[BigBad Mantid]].]]
* VerbalTic: "Arachna Power!", though "Never Give Up!" is more like his CatchPhrase. In the Japanese version, it's "Kekka Orai" (It's alright).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Corona]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SaekoChiba (Japanese), Creator/StaceyDePass (English)

The first person Hunter encounters in the Inner World. She provides invaluable help to him from the start. She's often very unsure of herself, and is constantly worried about Hunter. She will go to almost any length to know that he's safe.
----
* BattleCouple: With Hunter. While not explicitly a couple, they consider themselves battle partners (in the dub, as the term doesn't exist in the Japanese version) and clearly have feelings for each other.
* BerserkButton: You should ''never'' insult her cooking.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: In battle she's a force to be reckoned with. Particularly if angry.
* {{Deuteragonist}}: The show revolves around her as much as it does Hunter. The later half shows this especially, which devotes a lot of time to her learning about and coming to terms with her past and her powers. The second Japanese ED theme is similarly devoted to her.
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Her seiyuu sings the second OP theme.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: She has a massive crush on Hunter. He's the only one not to notice, [[spoiler: at least until the finale]].
* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: She and Hunter will both deny this.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: She says it often in one episode when growing weary of the war. It comes up now and again.
* InsecureLoveInterest: She always has trouble when trying to talk to Hunter about her feelings for him.
* LargeHam: Corona is a fine actress, but can over do it during dramatic scenes.
* LethalChef: Anything she cooks is guaranteed to make you sick.
* LongLostRelative: She is revealed to be [[spoiler:Aqune's long lost sister]].
* LongRangeFighter: Type 3, as she can blast away any frontal assaults with her arrows.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: With Hunter. These are their color schemes down to their spiders.
* ShipTease: She gets teased to hell and back again with Hunter, [[EveryoneCanSeeIt even by the other characters]].
* {{Synchronization}}: [[spoiler: Since she's a handmaiden, hurting the Oracle will also cause her pain.]]
* TomboyishPonytail
* {{Tsundere}}: Not an extreme case, but she's quite insecure about her feelings for Hunter, and has lashed out at him on a few occasions because of this.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Igneous]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TakehitoKoyasu (Japanese), Creator/TimHamaguchi (English)

Igneous is one of Arachna's greatest knights. Together, with his friend Grey/Slate, they make up the Claw and Fang of Arachna. He takes pride in protecting his kingdom, as well as the prince and princess. While Igneous can be serious to a fault, he's completely hopeless when it comes to love and hairstyling.
----
* AdaptationalDyeJob: He had white hair in the novels. Rather than his spiked-up 'do, he wore it in a bun.
* BigBrotherMentor: He's one to Hunter after they first meet.
* ChickMagnet: He even has his own fan club, [[spoiler:until he went to Nuuma and all of his fans found boyfriends.]]
* TheComicallySerious: Igneous is serious, composed and dignified, but he can act silly when put into the right kind of situation.
* StraightMan: Especially when paired with Prince Lumen.
* SupportingLeader: He's the captain of the Spider Riders, but Hunter is the one who does most of the fighting.
* TheStoic: Usually he's the most quiet and serious of the Spider Riders.
* NotSoStoic: Igneous gets quite upset when people mention [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes ghosts]], [[HeartBrokenBadass and is heartbroken when he discovers Queen Illuma/Elma is currently in love with her royal page.]]
* TeamDad: Perhaps more like a Team Big Brother given his age. But he's roughly the mentor to the younger Riders and does take a fatherly pride in them.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: He's terrified of ghosts.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Magma]]
->Voiced by: Kinya Kotani (Japanese), Creator/LyonSmith (English)

Magma was originally a wanderer, but later became a full-fledged Spider Rider. He despises the Insectors/Invectids, due to the fact that they killed his family, and that his spider's sister is under their control. He's a fan of the hero Quake. He's very calm and laid back.
----
* BadassNormal: He's one of the series strongest humans, even without his rider armor.
* TheBigGuy: Mamga's the strongman of the team.
* DoomedHometown: His village was destroyed in a fire created by the Insectors. He was the only survivor.
* FanBoy: For the hero Quake, complete with ManlyTears of happiness.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: He proved himself the physically strongest of the riders in his first appearance. This achievement is later glossed over whenever Hunter gets powered up by the Oracle Keys.
* RaceLift: Although his actual race is unstated, he had dark skin in the novels.
* SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong: "I will find Portia! That's a promise."
* ShipperOnDeck: He knows Corona likes Hunter and appears to try and help her get his attention.
* TheWorfEffect: Despite how strong he is, Stags defeated him twice.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Lumen]]
->Voiced by: Kumiko Higa (Japanese), Creator/CameronAnsell (English)

Lumen is the prince of Arachna, though you wouldn't know it by looking at him. He's an incredibly lazy flirt who likes to sleep. He's very protective of Sparkle and becomes jealous of anyone that impresses her.
----
* AdaptationalDyeJob: He had blue hair in the novels.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: It doesn't seem to bother Lumen that people rarely take him or his skills seriously. In fact, he seems to prefer it.
* BrotherSisterTeam: He and Sparkle rarely fight together, but when they do they are a formidable pair.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Lumen makes it difficult to believe he's a prince. Even Hunter is surprised.
* ChivalrousPervert: Lumen can't go a day without asking a pretty girl for a date. You'd think a prince wouldn't have such a big strike-out record.
* KnightTemplarBigBrother: Not as violent as most.
* NonChalantDodge: Lumen once spent nearly an entire fight doing nothing but dodging. [[BadassPacifist And it was ''very'' awesome.]]
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Though it can be hard to tell at times.
* WarriorPrince: Prince of Arachna and one of the Spider Riders.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sparkle]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KaoriShimizu (Japanese), Creator/MelanieTonello (English)

She is the princess of Arachna and the youngest Spider Rider. She is often protected, which she hates. She's very brave and wants to be able to fight like the other riders.
----
* BadassAdorable: Sparkle can hold her own in a fight, despite only being 8 years old.
* CheerfulChild: She's just a kid, which is especially apparent when she plays ball with Hunter in episode 6.
* CombinationAttack: Towards the end of the series, [[spoiler: she and Grasshop create one.]]
* CuteBruiser: She's adorable and will pound you with her KillerYoyo.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Sparkle has an amazing tendency to befriend even [[spoiler:Insectors/Invectids like Grasshop and Beerain]].
* ImprobableWeaponUser: She fights with a yo-yo.
* KillerYoyo: Her signature weapon in battle.
* MoralityPet: She serves as one for [[spoiler: Grasshop]], and is a big reason for his HeelFaceTurn.
* NaiveEverygirl: Subverted. Sparkle is sweet, kind and gentle, but tries her best to hold her own in battle.
* PluckyGirl: Sparkle can't seem to go a day without smiling.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: As a Spider Rider, she gets onto the front lines of battle as often as she's allowed, and smacks Insectors to a pulp with her KillerYoyo.
* TagalongKid: She went to great lengths to follow the other Riders to Nuuma.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Aqune]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SanaeKobayashi (Japanese), Creator/AlysonCourt (English)

Aqune is a Spider Rider in the Insector's/Invectid's service. She was taken in by Buguese when she was young. She willingly uses her powers to help restore the Insector's/Invectid's sun, but dislikes fighting. Therefore, she's controlled by a mask in order to fight against the Spider Riders. Aqune cares deeply for Hunter, much to Corona's dismay.
----
* AdaptationalDyeJob: She had brown hair in the novels. It was also spiked up in a different style.
* AdaptationalHeroism: In the novels (at least the original three), she's an unrepentant traitor. In the anime, however, she's noticeably more noble. The dub actually states that she's pure.
* AntiVillain: [[SlidingScaleOfAntiVillains Type IV]].
* BeastAndBeauty: With Buguese. Even if Buguese is the most humanoid Insector, he's still not exactly... human. Aqune is the gentle, empathetic one who tries to see the good in everyone. Buguese is the brooding, cynical one. Despite his hatred of humans, it's clear he has a soft spot for Aqune. [[spoiler: Freeing her is the last thing he does before confronting Mantid, which he expects will lead to his demise.]]
* CombatMedic: A downplayed example. She is shown to have healing powers, and took care of an injured Hunter in one episode. However, she's also a powerful fighter. Her healing abilities are never brought up again later in the series.
* CombinationAttack: Pulls this off on a few separate occasions, with Buguese, Hunter and Corona.
* CursedWithAwesome: It's easy to tell she doesn't enjoy her responsibilities.
* CurtainsMatchTheWindows: Has purple hair and eyes.
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: Her seiyuu (along with Shadow's) sings the 3rd ED theme.
* TheDragon: The Insectors/Invectids consider her their secret weapon. Which is completely understandable when you see her in action.
* EasyAmnesia: Averted. It's never really explained how she [[spoiler:and Corona]] got their amnesia.[[spoiler: Falling from an attacked airship likely had something to do with it.]]
* {{Expy}}: To the title character of Madlax. Both are amnesiac action girls with a mysterious connection to the other female lead, and are voiced by Sanae Kobayashi.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: She had to emphasize to Hunter that it is her duty to help ''all'' living things, including the Insectors/Invectids.
* LongLostRelative: She is revealed to be [[spoiler:Corona's long lost sister]].
* PromotedToLoveInterest: In the novels, she had no romantic interest in Hunter, and vice versa.
* TheQuietOne: She grew up sheltered and alone. However, she does become more talkative later on.
* TheSixthRanger: More like the eighth.
* {{Synchronization}}: [[spoiler:Since she's a handmaiden, hurting the Oracle will also cause her pain.]]
* ThisIsUnforgivable: Despite being willing to forgive everyone, she says this to Mantid [[spoiler:after learning that he betrayed the Insectors, and watching Buguese crash to his possible death to stop him. Granted, she's still distressed at the thought of Hunter actually killing Mantid.]]
* YamatoNadeshiko: She's mature, loyal, has the proper skills of a housewife, and can kick your ass gracefully. She even wields a naginata when un-transformed.
[[/folder]]

!Spiders
[[folder:Shadow]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TakashiKondo (Japanese), Creator/JosephMotiki (English)

Hunter's spider partner, a prideful warrior who thinks he doesn't need help from anyone. He hates crowds.
----
* AdaptationalPersonalityChange: Is far more hot-tempered, far less mature and much more prone to bickering with Hunter compared to his novel counterpart.
* DeadpanSnarker: Makes up about 90% of his dialogue, and always directed towards Hunter. The two go back and forth quite a bit, especially in the dub.
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: His seiyuu (along with Aqune's) sings the 3rd ED theme.
* FireForgedFriends: How he and Hunter eventually become friends.
* HeroHarassesHelpers: When they first meet, Shadow is a complete jerk to Hunter, with their conversations often leading to Shadow stating IWorkAlone.
* HotBlooded: Like Hunter, he'll rush headlong into battle. He prides himself as a warrior and seems to enjoy a good fight.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Shadow often acts put out by Hunter's antics, but it doesn't take much to persuade him into taking part in something trivial.
* RecklessSidekick: Shadow will sometimes rush into a situation before Hunter can, which makes him a bit of a hypocrite when he calls Hunter out for endangering them.
* WeaponizedAnimal: Moreso than the other spiders, thanks to the power of the [[PlotCoupon Oracle Keys]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Venus]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SanaeKobayashi (Japanese), Caroly Larson (English)

Corona's spider partner. She is soft-spoken and polite, but a fearless fighter.
----
* CoolBigSis: Venus often encourages Corona to relax and have fun during their off hours.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: Venus is the pink girl to Shadow's blue boy.
* ShipTease: She gets minor one with Shadow, although it goes nowhere.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Flame]]

Igneous' battle spider, who has the ability to shoot webs made of fire.
----
* FireBreathingWeapon: He has the ability to shoot webs made out of fire.
* FlatCharacter: Admittedly, all of the spiders suffer from this from time to time but Flame gets the worst of it.
* SatelliteCharacter: At least compared to most of the characters, though almost all of the spiders suffer from this.
* TheVoiceless: He never speaks, ever.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Brutus]]
->Voiced by: Creator/ShigeruChiba (Japanese), Creator/DarrenFrost (English)

Magma's spider partner. He has tremendous strength, and is looking for his long lost sister, Portia.
----
* BitCharacter: Other than looking for his sister, he doesn't do much for the plot.
* MandatoryLine: "Right!" seems to be about the only thing he ever says.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Ebony]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KentaMiyake (Japanese)

Lumen's battle spider. He's said to be very powerful and destructive. Lumen doesn't call him out much, for fear of accidentally hurting someone.
----
* HiddenDepths: [[spoiler: He finally speaks (much to everyone's shock) when persuading Lumen to take Sparkle into battle]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Hotarla]]
->Voiced by: Creator/YuuAsakawa (Japanese), Grace Fulliton (English)

Sparkle's battle spider. Unlike the other spiders, she's still a baby.
----
* GentleGiant: Not as big as the other spiders, but she still counts.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: She's a round, colorful baby spider who only says "kyu" (but in the English dub can sometimes speak in normal sentences.) This is notable compared to the rest of the spiders, who aren't meant to be so adorable.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Portia]]
->Voiced by: Kumiko Higa (Japanese), Creator/AlysonCourt (English)

Aqune's battle spider. She is Brutus's missing little sister. Like Aqune, Portia wears a mask that controls her.
----
* LongLostRelative: She's Brutus's long lost little sister.
* PurpleIsPowerful: Portia is known for her unique purple color and is easily one of the strongest spiders.
[[/folder]]

!Invectids/Insectors
[[folder:Mantid]]
->Voiced by: Creator/HiroshiYanaka (Japanese), Creator/LawrenceBayne (English)

Lord Mantid is a mantis-type Insector/Invectid. He directs the Insector/Invectid troops to remove the hated humans from the Inner World and find the Oracle Keys to sustain himself. His reason for taking the Oracle's power is revenge upon the Inner World and the Oracle herself.
----
* BigBad: He's the leader of the Insectors/Invectids.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:In his backstory, he lost his lover after fighting for the Oracle for years. Some fans speculate he lost other friends and comrades.]]
* CardCarryingVillain: Not in the actual show, but in the gag [[OnTheNext next episode previews]]. He even introduces himself as "the terrible Mantid."
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler:The Insectors/Invectids don't realize that they're serving his master plan, and he plans to kill them all when it's completed.]]
* EvilLaugh: Done ''very'' often.
* FallenHero: [[spoiler:He once was one of the Oracle's chosen warriors, but is now a rampaging psychopath.]]
* ItsAllAboutMe: [[spoiler:Beerain discovered that all he really cares about is getting his revenge.]]
* LaughingMad: Often breaks into maniacal laughter.
* ManipulativeBastard
* OneWingedAngel: His [[spoiler:Oracle Key powered]] transformation.
* RedemptionEarnsLife: [[spoiler: Hunter not only spares Mantid's life, he asks Mantid to let him help and Mantid is able to make a HeelFaceTurn.]]
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: He tells everyone [[spoiler:the real reason he wants the Keys is because he wants revenge on the Oracle for all the suffering he's endured over the years.]]
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: [[spoiler: He lost the love of his life in war; perhaps many friends the same way. With all that, it's no wonder he went off the deep end.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Grasshop/Larva P. Grasshop]]
->Voiced by: Creator/ShigeruChiba (Japanese), Carman Melville (English)

Member of the Big Four, he's a grasshopper-type Insector/Invectid who uses gadgets and devices to defeat enemies. He doesn't really like to fight the Riders, letting his minions do the fighting for him.
----
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: This is how he feels about being in the Big Four. It doesn't help that the other members agree with the sentiment.
* AffablyEvil: [[spoiler:At first, anyway.]]
* ButtMonkey: Whenever something goes wrong, he's usually the one to get punished, even if it has nothing to do with him.
* BreakingTheFourthWall: He does this at least once, in regards to the heroes' transformation sequence. In the Japanese version, he breaks the fourth wall constantly, such as when he thanks the sound crew for playing fitting music.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: He may seem like a fool, but there have been occasions where he accomplishes something impressive. [[spoiler: Usually after his side switch.]]
* DirtyCoward: [[spoiler:Before his HeelFaceTurn]].
* DubNameChange: In a bizarre case, the dub turns his first name, Grasshop, into his last name, and gives him the first name "Larva." He never had a last name originally.
* HugeGirlTinyGuy: Grasshop is much shorter than his wife.
* LastNameBasis: In the dub. See his "Dub Name Change" entry.
* LovableCoward: Grasshop does everything he can to avoid combat, but is a FriendToAllChildren who ultimately sides with the heroes in an effort to end the war without either side unnecessarily suffering.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Ridiculous he may be, he's actually a cunning strategist. [[spoiler:His [[TheBerserker intense]] battling in the finale shows that there's a good reason he was allowed to join the Big Four.]]
* TokenHeroicOrc: [[spoiler: After joining the Spider Riders.]]
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: He assumes this once he's officially kicked out of the Big Four. [[spoiler:It happens for real later on, after he throws in his lot with the humans. At least until the finale anyway.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Buguese]]
->Voiced by: Creator/ToshihikoSeki (Japanese), Jack Langendijk (English)

Mantid's right hand man, with many plans to defeat the Spider Riders. He is the leader of the Big Four. He despises the Oracle. Buguese claims to care little for his comrades, but has shown respect for Stags, and concern for Aqune and Beerain.
----
* AloofAlly: He claims he's this towards the rest of the Big Four. As it turns out, he really does care about them.
* AuthorityEqualsAssKicking: He may not always act like it, but there's a reason why he's the leader of the Big Four.
* BadassCape: He never removes it, though production art of him exists with the cape off.
* BeastAndBeauty: With Aqune. Even if Buguese is the most humanoid Insector, he's still not exactly... human. Aqune is the gentle, empathetic one who tries to see the good in everyone. Buguese is the brooding, cynical one. Despite his hatred of humans, it's clear he has a soft spot for Aqune. [[spoiler:Freeing her is the last thing he does before confronting Mantid, which he expects will lead to his demise.]]
* CooldownHug: Does this for Aqune twice. Once to calm her when her mask breaks. [[spoiler: Another to stop her from attacking when she's BrainwashedAndCrazy thanks to Mantid.]]
* TheDragon: To Mantid.
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler: After finding out the truth and realizing how much he wronged his comrades in his efforts to capture the Oracle Keys, he decides to crash Dark Opal into Mantid's castle, taking out Mantid with him. When he fails, he admits that he doesn't feel he deserves to live.]]
* FourIsDeath: Leader of the Big Four.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: The ease with which he allowed himself to be manipulated by [[spoiler:Mantid]] is astonishing.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Tends to say things like this to justify his actions [[spoiler: which is mainly for himself as he realizes what he's doing is wrong and it's slowly eating away at him. It's just that he wants to restore the Insector sun no matter what.]]
* {{Jerkass}}[=/=]JerkWithAHeartOfGold: More of the former in the dub and the latter in the sub. He spends most of the series treating his allies badly (ranging from cold behavior to actual cruelty), but not without a great deal of remorse and internal worrying. When it comes to his enemies, he can be outright sadistic.
* PerpetualFrowner: Default expression if he's not winning a fight [[spoiler: or watching Aqune]].
* TroubledButCute: This seems to be a factor in his popularity with the ladies.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Beerain]]
->Voiced by: Creator/YuuAsakawa (Japanese), Creator/EllenRayHennessy (English)

A bee-type Insector/Invectid who uses a whip to fight. She's a member of the Big Four and commands the Buzzrays. While she can be charming, she has no regard for honor and thinks winning is everything.
----
* TheExile: [[spoiler:Buguese refuses to listen to her when explaining why Mantid attacked her, and leaves her in the custody of the Spider Riders]].
* FauxActionGirl: She mostly summons buzzrays, and always loses when she actually fights by herself.
* LoveHurts: Especially when the person you love throws his sword at you to shut you up.
* ManipulativeBastard: She took lessons from Mantid.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: The only female member of the Big Four.
* TraumaticHaircut: Some of her hair gets cut off by [[spoiler:Mantid when he catches her eavesdropping on one of his rants.]] Thankfully she got away before he cut more than a few strands.
* WhipOfDominance: She's a high-ranking officer with a domineering demeanor and supremacist views who fights with a whip.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Stags]]
->Voiced by: Creator/KentaMiyake (Japanese)

A powerful stag beetle-type Insector/Invectid loyal to the cause. He wields a short Zanbato. He is considered by many as the most powerful of the Big Four. He has a strong sense of honor, and cannot stand when it is disrespected.
----
* BackForTheFinale: [[spoiler:Only Beerain knew of his survival after his second fight with Hunter and Shadow. He didn't appear again until the final episodes of the series.]]
* TheBigGuy: He's regarded as the strongest of the Big Four, and he more than lives up to it.
* {{BFS}}: It's about as big as he is.
* BloodKnight: It's made obvious from his attitude in his introductory episode.
* TheBusCameBack: After the invasion of Nuuma, he has a talk with Beerain before she heads back to the Insectors/Invectids. After that he's not seen again for over five episodes. [[spoiler: He returns from his long absence to help Buguese and Beerain deliver the two remaining Oracle Keys to Hunter.]]
* TheCoatsAreOff: He likes to dramatically take off his cape before fighting.
* CurbStompBattle: Trying to fight him without an Oracle Key always ends this way.
* {{Determinator}}
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: After the battle in Nuuma, he defects from Mantid's army.]]
* HonorBeforeReason: [[spoiler:During a duel with Hunter, Grasshop manages to steal the Oracle Key from him. What does Stags do? He hits Grasshop and gives the Key back to Hunter.]]
* LightningBruiser: Stags is one of the most physically strong characters in the show and moves very quickly during a fight.
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: He takes his pride as a warrior very seriously, and does not approve when [[spoiler: Grasshop interrupts his fight, even though Grasshop stole the Oracle Key and was actually helping him.]]
* SparedByTheAdaptation: He's killed in the novels, but survives in the anime.
* TheStoic: The most stoic of the Big Four.
[[/folder]]

!Others
[[folder:Lily]]
->Voiced by: Creator/TakakoHonda (Japanese), Creator/JulieLemieux (English)

Lily is Arachna's chief fortuneteller. She's often seen looking into her crystal ball, trying to spot bad omens.
----
* CanonForeigner: She doesn't appear in the novels.
* CrystalBall: Seeing how she's a fortune teller, she always has one.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: She hints that Hunter will destroy the Inner World rather than save it, [[spoiler:which he never does, but Mantid (also an Earthen) almost accomplishes]].
* ISenseADisturbanceInTheForce: [[RunningGag "A bad omen..."]]
* RedHerring: In her first appearance she implies that Hunter will bring about the end of the Inner World. However, she doesn't bring this revelation up again.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Brade/Quake]]
->Voiced by: Creator/ChikaoOhtsuka (Japanese)

Better known as The Hero Brade/Quake, a legendary Spider Rider who saved the Inner World many times in the past.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: Noticibly, he has much darker skin than most of the characters. As they're natives of a foreign world, no one but Hunter would actually belong to any earth race.
* BadassPacifist: He created a technique that takes away a person's desire to fight.
* BigDamnHero: He prevents Hunter from [[spoiler:handing over the Oracle Keys to Mantid in exchange for peace.]]
* CanonForeigner: He doesn't appear in the novels at all.
* ChivalrousPervert: He hits on Corona and Aqune quite often (though the dub downplays this), but is also very protective of them.
* DeadAllAlong: [[spoiler:He's a ghost. Although this is hinted, it's not officially revealed until the last episode.]]
* DubNameChange: He was called Brade in the sub and Quake in the dub. Interestingly enough, original press material in English states his name as Brade, so the change wasn't intended originally. WordOfGod states that they thought Quake sounded cooler, because Brade sounds too close to "braid". However, it was probably intended to sound like "Blade." (Japan pronounces L's and R's the same.)
* DirtyOldMan: He tries to flirt with Corona and Aqune. Thankfully it appears this is mostly to tease Hunter.
** Perhaps in the dub, where certain scenes were cut out. It didn't seem like teasing in the Japanese version.
* EccentricMentor: Of the WaxOnWaxOff variety.
* HeroicWillpower: His will was strong enough to [[spoiler:keep him from crossing over after he died fighting Mantid until he SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong]].
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With the Sea Buff Mariner/Lost Mariner. [[spoiler:Actually, more like Heterosexual Death Partners, because they remain close, even as ghosts.]]
* IWasQuiteALooker: Turns out he's telling the truth about that.
* MiniatureSeniorCitizens: Old age made him tiny.
* OldMaster: Don't let his appearance fool you. His old age only means that he's a legendary veteran. He's very powerful and skilled.

Brade/Quake's battle spider. He's said to be the strongest of all spiders.
----
* InformedAbility: Dagger is a legendary spider warrior who is supposedly the strongest, yet we never get to see him go all out.
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: Rather, second-to-last-episode. Although he was technically sitting in Brade/Quake's manacle the whole time, he only joins in for the final battle. He doesn't even get to speak a single line.
* RedIsHeroic: He's the spider partner of the legendary hero Brade/Quake.

Igneous' best friend, and a loyal Arachnan knight. He sometimes helps the Riders in their battles.
----
* TheAce: Easily one of the most powerful normal humans in Arachna. The only reason the Spider Riders left for Nuuma was because he was charged with guarding the kingdom in their absence.
* BackToBackBadasses: There's a reason he and Igneous are known as the Fang and Claw of Arachna.
* BashBrothers: With Igneous.
* CanonForeigner: He doesn't appear in the novels.

[[folder:Queen Elma/Illuma]]
->Voiced by: Creator/YukoKobayashi (Japanese), Creator/JulieLemieux (English)

The Queen of the kingdom of Nuuma. She knew Corona and Aqune when they were younger and reveals their MysteriousPast.
----
* CanonForeigner: She doesn't appear in the novels.
* TheHighQueen
* OnlySaneMan: She seems to be the only one to realize that the Spider Riders being ChildSoldiers isn't necessarily a good thing. On the other hand, the fact that she was the one who called for their help, then refused it just because she saw they were children does make her seem pretty foolish.

[[folder:Oracle]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SaekoChiba (Japanese), Creator/JulieLemieux (English)

The Oracle is a beautiful woman, who united humans and spiders. Hunter first saw her when he fell down into the Inner World. She is considered the goddess of the Inner World. Little is known about her.
----
* AngelicBeauty
* AllergicToEvil: Destroying something made in her honor or using her power to kill causes her pain.
* CueTheSun: She created the Inner World's Sun. Whenever it shines, she's feeling fine.
* GoodHurtsEvil: She can cause pain to anyone trying to use her power to unjustly harm another.
* LightIsGood: She is essentially the light-bringing goddess over the Inner World.
* MinorMajorCharacter: Her presence as the goddess of the Inner World makes her very important. Her appearances, however, are sporadic. Justified in-universe, as all 8 Spider Riders have to be gathered for her to be summoned.
