Most [[Fanfic/RainbowDoubleDashsLunaverse Lunaverse]] main characters are basically based on [[AscendedExtra background]] [[MemeticBystander ponies]] and [[EnsembleDarkhorse one-shot/supporting characters]] from [[Characters/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic the original series]], with canon!main characters appearing in minor roles. However, the [[AlternateUniverseFic world building]] has fleshed many of them out in different direction from the original show, while still retaining some personality tropes.
Character page is still in progress, as new tropes are added along the characters gaining screen time, and may include accidental/non-marked spoilers.

* AdaptationalBadass: Lifted from background and minor characters into heroes.
* BadassNormal: Compared to the Mane Six ([[ChildProdigy Twilight]] [[SuperPowerLottery Sparkle]], [[LightningBruiser Rainbow Dash]] and [[ToonPhysics Pinkie Pie]] most of all), most of the Luna Six are relatively normal ponies who are the Elements of Harmony.
* FireForgedFriends: While most of them were at least familiar with each other beforehand, it was the shared adventure against Corona that truly brought them together.
* [[FiveManBand Five Mare Band]]: Although the divide isn't clean and there is significant overlap depending upon the situation.
** Trixie is TheLancer. Oddly for a lancer, she's also TheHero.
** Lyra is a variation on both [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Mare]] (she's "the bard" and knows a lot about magical theory) and [[TheBigGuy The Big Mare]] (when spellcasting)
** Raindrops is [[TheBigGuy The Big Mare]] (physically).
** Ditzy Doo is TheChick, as well as TeamMom.
** Carrot Top is TheChick while doing some time as [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Mare]].
** Cheerilee is TheLeader, though she also doubles as [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Mare]].
* TrueCompanions
!!Trixie Lulamoon

[[caption-width-right:166:Watch in awe!]]
The Element of Magic, the personal student of Princess Luna an the representative of her Night Court to Ponyville. Trixie is extroverted, but abrasive; outgoing, yet insecure. She is talented and knows it, and she wants everypony else to know it as well. She can be difficult to get along with at the best of times, but now that she has true friends, she is determined to keep them.
* TheBigEasy: Is originally from [[NewOrleans Neigh Orleans]].
* BigEgoHiddenDepths
* BizarreTasteInFood: big time.
* BookDumb: mild example. She's rather well-read in politics and history as a Luna's student, but not so much in magical theory.
* {{CelibateHero}}/{{Asexuality}}: [[CrowningMomentOfFunny One scene]] in ''Helping... Hands?'' implies her to be virgin, and indeed she seems to be unnerved by the sex in general:
** [[spoiler: In ''The Night After,'' she is disturbed when she (and most of the neighbors, in all likelyhood) hears Bon Bon and Lyra going at it; a few weeks later, in ''Helping...Hands?'', she is still embarassed by the experience.]]
** [[spoiler: In ''A Hard Bargain,'' Cheerilee's off-hand comments about the "fun" her parents used to have make Trixie squirm.]]
** This gets actually discussed in ''Tales of Ponyville'', where Cheerilee mistakes Trixie's celibate tendencies for being a ChasteHero [[spoiler: and [[HilarityEnsues decides to give her]] TheTalk]].
** Also, WordOfGod is that she's most likely asexual, though not adverse to forming close Platonic relationships.
* CharacterDevelopment: Before the events of ''Longest Night, Longest Day'', and for a good chunk of that story as well, Trixie really ''wanted'' to be a corrupt, scheming manipulator in the Night Court. She just wasn't very good at it. Her friendship with the other Elements of Harmony has changed her dramatically for the better over the course of several months, though ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'' reminds us that there are many nobles in Canterlot who still vividly remember her as an egotistical, politically clumsy {{Jerkass}}.
* ConspiracyTheorist: For Trixie, unless it's one of the other Elements, there is no gesture that cannot be construed as the product of the machinations of members of the Night Court in a bid to gain control of one or more of the Elements. Fortunately or unfortunately, [[ProperlyParanoid she is frequently right]].
** Also unfortunately, for all her paranoia she doesnt realize [[spoiler:just ''how'' corrupt the Night Court is ''as a whole'']].
* DeadpanSnarker
* [[EmbarrassingMiddleName Embarrassing Second Name]]: she was teased for the name "Lulamoon" as a foal due to the allusions to a song ''Skip to My Lou''.
** FirstNameBasis: ... which is why she prefers Trixie.
* TheHero: a relatively [[AntiHero flawed]] variant.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Frequently deals with stress by spending quality time with Monsieur Bourbon.
* InVinoVeritas: When drunk, Trixie becomes more laid-back and sociable, starts speaking in Neigh Orleans accent and [[EmbarrassingMiddleName prefers to be called Lulamoon]].
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Towards Lyra, in thinking that she's a StarvingArtist.
* {{Invisibility}}: Trixie possesses this spell and used it several times to either sneak around or avoid danger. A second spell also makes her hooves inaudible.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Especially around foals; Trixie seems to make a special effort to be nice to them, especially Dinky Doo.
* LargeHamTitle: The Great and Powerful Trixie, though mostly only during stage shows or when other wise trying to be overly impressive.
* ManipulativeBitch: and not always too subtle in it.
* MasterOfIllusion
* PowerCopying: Trixie learns spells "by ear"; that is, she learns how to cast spells by watching other ponies casting spells. The downside to this is that she's not very good at learning spells from spellbooks, the normal way.
* StageMagician: following in her grandfather's hoofsteps, though it's more of a hobby.
* WeakButSkilled: not overly powerful for having a special talent in magic, but she's creative and fluent caster and fast learner.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: In contrast to canon!Twilight, who can perform a very wide variety of spells, but not very well, Lunaverse!Trixie has a few select spells she can cast very effectively.
!!Raindrops

[[quoteright:122:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Raindrops_MLPFiM_NAH_bro_by_Alecza1234_2911.png]]
[[caption-width-right:122:You do '''not''' want to make her angry.]]
The Element of Honesty, Raindrops can come across as stable and slightly dull. She's a member of Ponyville's weather patrol, and takes her job very seriously, though she also enjoys it thoroughly.
* [[TheBigGuy The Big Mare]]
* BrutalHonesty
* DeadpanSnarker
* {{Determinator}}
* HappyRain: She loves playing in the rain.
* MightyGlacier: Slow and clumsy for a pegasus, but stronger than many earth ponies.
* NeverLiveItDown: [[invoked]] The one time she really lost it and assaulted somepony in anger led to broken bones, hospitalization and a restraining order. She had to live with the reputation until her family moved away from Cloudsdale, but she still regrets it.
* SuppressedRage: Due to what happened in the past, she does her best to control her temper.
* TheStoic: But she [[NotSoStoic has]] [[SuppressedRage her]] [[RageBreakingPoint limits]].
!!Carrot Top

[[caption-width-right:200:Just a simple carrot farmer.]]
The Element of Generosity and a carrot farmer. While hard-working and compassionate friend, her selfless and introvert nature make her a bit too generous in a business sense. As a rather struggling low-scale farmer, she's envious of the Apple clan and their success.
* TheChick
* {{Envy}}
* ExtremeDoormat
* [[GreenThumb Green Hoof]]: She knows a lot of stuff concerning plants, both tame and wild and even those of the Everfree Forest.
* ShrinkingViolet: not on Fluttershy-levels, but is somewhat a doormat.
* TakingAdvantageOfGenerosity: She tends to be the victim of this...
** AFriendInNeed: ... but on the other hoof, she's still always there to help anyone who's in trouble, no matter what it takes from her. And most are more than willing to [[AndroclesLion return the favor]].
* UnknownRival: She's not even a blip on the Apple Trust's radar...
** [[spoiler: Until ''The Carrot Top Season'', after which Applejack acknowledges her as a WorthyOpponent. She was even given a chance to [[WeCanRuleTogether join the Trust]].]]

[[quoteright:154:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Lyra_Heartstrings_by_90Sigma_5681.png]]
[[caption-width-right:154:A musical prodigy...]]
The Element of Loyalty, Lyra is a laid-back, easygoing musician and (suitably) utterly devoted friend. In the beginning of the story, she returned to her home town Ponyville with Trixie after studying three years in Canterlot, [[LongDistanceRelationship reuniting with her longtime marefriend BonBon]].
* BrilliantButLazy: While patient and thorough in what she does, she can be also carefree and has some problems with deadlines. She also seems to be stronger than Trixie in terms of raw magic power.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: with [=BonBon=].
* [[HasTwoMommies Has Two Daddies]]: As mentioned in ''Tales of Ponyville'', and confirmed by WordOfGod.
* LethalChef: The reason why [=BonBon=] cooks for both of them.
* MagicMusic: she's a professional musician, and has studied magic in Luna's school for Gifted Unicorns.
** ''Secret of Andalantis'' also mentions spellsongs, aka. ''literal magic music'', as her specialty in spellcasting.
* PowerOfTrust: she inspires Octavia to overpower Blueblood's mercenaries, even though she's a mile away. Octavia knows that Lyra would have faith in her, and that's all she needs.
* TheReliableOne: as the element suggests, she's more or less everypony's friend.
* [[spoiler: TakingTheBullet: She takes one for Cheerilee in ''Longest Night, Longest Day''. Luckily, it proves her to be the Element of Loyalty, and she's fine.]]
* WaitingForABreak: Implied, when Trixie tends to think her as a StarvingArtist (especially in earlier stories) and invokes this trope to get her to do favors. Eventually subverted as Lyra ''does'' make a living with her music.
!!Ditzy Doo
!!! [[http://i42.tinypic.com/2l8w2dj.png Profile]]
[[quoteright:198:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Derpy_Hooves_Vector_by_Durpy_1574.png]]
[[caption-width-right:198:Our most popular background pony, now a main character.]]
The Element of Kindness and a ever hard-working mail mare in Ponyville's post office, who knows everypony and wants everypony to get along. Single mother and would fly to the end of the universe for her dear daughter, Dinky Doo.
* AlmightyJanitor: Isn't a post master, but knows every detail in the job well enough to claim the office her own "Castle Doo".
* {{Claustrophobia}}: Not known to do well in enclosed spaces; this causes problems when having to rescue Trixie in "Through the Fire and Flames''.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Whether it's her Element or just her general niceness, animals can't bring themselves to harm Ditzy.
* [[GoodParents Good Parent]]: "Fact: Dinky Doo has the best mother in the world, and Dinky Doo is fully aware of this."
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Was reluctant to accept the Element of Kindness at first [[spoiler: because of her [[MyGreatestFailure teenage affair]] with Sparkler's (and Dinky's) father, which led to a pregnancy and the divorce of Sparkler's parents.]]
* TheKlutz: suffers from [[FishEyes strabismus]], which makes her coordinating and flying difficult.
* MamaBear: Don't even think of hurting her daughter. Otherwise you might just end up being dropped from the sky.
* PhotographicMemory
* TeamMom
* TurnTheOtherCheek: She rarely gets angry even if somepony acts like they'd deserve it, instead treating such occasions with motherly patience.
* {{Workaholic}}: She works long, somewhat stressful days, capable and willing to do most tasks in the office... due to the low salary and family to support.
!!Cheerilee

[[quoteright:188:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Cheerilee_Vector_by_FlowerJewel_8487.png]]
[[caption-width-right:188:Bringing in joy and laughter, both in classroom and life.]]
The optimistic, knowledgeable and responsible school teacher for Ponyville and the Element of Laughter. Needs to get out more. Foalhood friend of Lyra.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Slow to anger, but when she does, even [[TheBigGuy Raindrops]] is afraid of getting in her way.
* CoolTeacher
** BadassTeacher
* [[CrazyCatLady Crazy Fish Lady]]: According to the ''Hero of Oaton'', Cheerilee has so many fish that she's long since run out of names and had to switch over to an alpha-numeric system of identification.
** [[KindheartedCatLover Kindhearted Fish Lover]]: She's not really obsessed with her fish to the point total social isolation, but she does seem to be worried about being perceived as such by others.
* FormerTeenRebel : ''Tales of Ponyville'' reveals that when she had a very interesting youth.
** [[HiddenDepths And she picked up lots of useful skills and met many interesting persons]] back in those days.
* GenreSavvy
* TheLeader: Tended to take this role in ''Longest Night, Longest Day,'' usually being the one to come up with plans of action.
* MarriedToTheJob: But wouldn't mind a life outside it.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: ''Scootalong to the Cheer'' not only revealed her relation to [[spoiler: Berry Punch]], but also that her own full name is [[spoiler: Black''cherry Lee'' Punch]].
* [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Mare]]
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: Seriously, she's ''terrifying''.

!!Dinky Doo
!!!Unicorn, Ditzy Doo's daughter. School-age filly who is wise for her years, but also still fundamentally a kid. Works at Fluttershy's on weekends.
* CheerfulChild
* TheCutie
* KidSidekick: Trixie's little assistant in her stage magic shows.
* TheLeader: Type II[=/=]IV hybrid among the "Foal 6" in ''Foalish Misadventures'', charismatic enough to get the aid of children who otherwise wouldn't have anything to do with one another, and levelheaded enough to identify the problem and keep them on task.
* MagneticHero: Able to befriend virtually everyone she meets.
* [[WiseBeyondTheirYears Wise Beyond Her Years]]: Dinky's no genius, but she's really mature for her age.
!!Snails
!!!Unicorn. Raindrop's little brother. Idolizes Trixie due to her magic shows.
* {{Adorkable}}: The way he looks up to his big sister in ''Griffin Over The Line'' is just precious.
* BugCatching: His primary hobby.
* FriendToBugs
* GeniusDitz: While appearing kinda daft, Snails has shown a surprising knowledge of botany and other wildlife. Justified as he spends a lot time in the woods, and Raindrops has made sure he knows about dangerous and/or poisonous plants and animals.
* {{Gonk}}
* HeroWorshipper
!!Bon Bon
!!!Earth pony. A confectioner and Lyra's marefriend.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While usually nice pony, she can be pretty temperamental when stressed enough. She's also rather protective of Lyra. [[spoiler: "''Helping... Hands?''" turns out to be a ''[[SanitySlippage very]]'' [[SanitySlippage bad day for her]].]]
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Known each other since childhood, hooked up as teenagers.
!!Twist
!!!Earth pony, and Bonbon's sister. Has a speech impediment.
!!Pokey Pierce
!!!Unicorn. Trixie's secretary/assistant. He shall pierce the Heavens with his horn!
* {{Determinator}}: His special talent is [[AllThereInTheManual noted]] to be perseverance.
* HypercompetentSidekick / CrazyPrepared: He's very good at his job, and always carry copies of every legal form from the disaster relief book. With Corona on the loose, Trixie in charge, and Ponyville being... Ponyville, they get a lot of use.
* IncrediblyLamePun: He's always willing to take a stab at one.
* LargeHam: When not snarking or throwing puns, he tends to quote [[TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]]. You can guess the rest.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: His special unicorn magic is a horn sharpening spell, which helps him to pierce through things. Thus far he's used it to [[ShootOutTheLock open a locked door]]. [[spoiler: PlayedForLaughs when he only [[AntiClimax ends up]] [[EpicFail stuck himself]].]]
* ServileSnarker: Part of his resumé when taking a job working under [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Trixie]].
--> '''Pokey''': ''If you become too much, I’ll be ready to bring you back down with a … [[IncrediblyLamePun piercing remark]].''
* ShoutOut: If not obvious yet, Pokey's characteristics have many to GurrenLagann, with determination, quoting and the horn as an allusion to a drill.
!!Fluttershy
!!!Pegasus. Animal caretaker, extreme introvert, but friends with Ditzy, Dinky, and Rainbow Dash. Real name Fluttering Posey.
* CharacterDevelopment: [[spoiler:Eventually grows more comfortable around Carrot Top after CT gives her the antidote for Poison Joke. Later, in ''Tales of Ponyville'', she not only allows herself to be taken out to the spa, but starts to develop a friendship with Rarity without the aid of one of her existing friends.]]
* SecretlyWealthy: Daughter of a rich and influential industrialist family, who chose to live quietly on ground as a animal caretaker. Her parents support her financially.
* ShrinkingViolet: UpToEleven. RDD designed her "basically the same, but without Flutterbitch", thus lacking all of her [[HiddenDepths canon assertiveness]]. She's now practically devoid of all social interaction except Ditzy, Dinky and Rainbow Dash.
!!Amethyst Star, "Sparkler"
!!!Unicorn. Jeweler. Prefers the nickname "Sparkler" amongst those she likes. Dinky's half-sister on their father's side.
* BrokenBird: victim in her parents' messy divorce
* FireForgedFriends: [[spoiler: In a sense, with Dinky Doo, her half-sister. The two are both innocent victims of a scandal involving their parents, and the shared pain - and opening up to each other - seems to have brought them closer together]]
* FriendlyAddressPrivileges: Only her friends call her Sparkler. [[spoiler: Which works as a sign of warming terms between her and Ditzy, when Ditzy calls her that. It's still on a bit uncomfortable territory, however.]]
* InSeriesNickname
!!Berry Punch
!!!Earth pony, Cheerilee's sister. Owns a soda shop and bar. Is also something of a social alcoholic.
* TheAlcoholic: A mild example. She's fine normally, but she tends to lose control at parties.
* TheMentor: To Carrot Top, for the farm competition. As she explains, Carrot Top can farm, but Berry Punch knows how to put dishes together.
* PopularityPower: Applejack paid bitterly for [[spoiler: publicly insulting Berry's profession]], as Berry is town's most popular party animal right along Pinkie.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Other Characters in Ponyville]]
!!Applejack
!!!Earth pony. Local head of the Apple Trust corporation. Deeply concerned about the well-being of her enterprise.
* CoolBigSis: Tries to be one for Applebloom. [[spoiler: It doesn't always work out so well, as seen in ''Carrot Top Season''.]]
* LonelyAtTheTop: her relentless work for securing the Trust's productivity has left her isolated from the community, who view her greedy and selfish.
* MoralMyopia. Honestly seems to believe that Sweet Apple Acres is vital to the town's future. This leads her to believe that anyone who wants to compete with her wants ponies to starve to death.
* SkewedPriorities: The reason that that's nuts is because it makes her look like an elephant screaming about the peril that a mouse represents.
* ShroudedInMyth: The reason that she cannot see that is that she's based her whole life on a family legend on how the Apples saved Equestria centuries ago. The legend's accuracy is debatable; its effect of her isn't.
** {{Irony}}: According to the real legend (at least as far as Granny Smith claims), Equestria was saved by the farms banding together and helping each other out. Which is exactly what Carrot Top and the other small farms are doing now, and what Applejack is so opposed to.
* ThickerThanWater
!!Big Macintosh
!!! Earth pony, Applejack's big brother. A strong, stoic stallion of few words and a good heart.
* GentleGiant: Is pointed by Applejack to be too soft to be the head of the Trust.
* HiddenDepths: He has a bounty hunter license. [[BadAss And he doesn't have it just for bragging rights]].
** He also speaks Caballerian ([[FantasyCounterpartCulture i.e. Spanish]]).
* TheyFightCrime: With [[TheLancer Caramel]].
* TheQuietOne
!! Granny Smith.
!!!Earth Pony. Grandmother of Applejack, Big Macintosh and Apple Bloom.
* CoolOldLady
* IsThatWhatHeToldYou: She tells Carrot Top how the Apples really 'saved' the kingdom. Instead of Applejack's version of how the Apples saved the country due to overwhelming strength, the Apple Trust started out as a small farm that had gotten its neighbors to band together in a time of crisis.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Implied. In the above-mentioned scene Carrot Top also wonders that Granny Smith told the story as if she had been there herself... hundreds of years ago. Downplayed mildly in that she actually looks like an old mare.
!!Rarity
!!!Unicorn. Fashion designer. Very generous, but potentially hiding a manipulative nature.
* CutenessProximity: Upon meeting Fluttershy for the first time, she immediately starts gushing over her and making plans to have her model... without getting her consent, or noticing how uncomfortable she's making the shy pegasus.
* TakingAdvantageOfGenerosity: Played with: while she can still be quite generous herself, she isn't afraid to invert this to make others perform certain favors for her...
!!Rainbow Dash
!!!Pegasus. Weather manager of Ponyville and slacker extraordinaire. Friend of Fluttershy's, constant headache for Raindrops.
* BrilliantButLazy: Excellent weather mare, but doesn't seem to take her job too seriously.
** [[spoiler:Deconstructed in ''Carrot Top Over The Line'', where it's found out that she was put in the weather manager's position by Flutteshy's father, and doesn't feel she even deserves the job.]]
* TheCaretaker: For Fluttershy, as her oldest friend [[spoiler: and under the orders of her father, Thunderous Posey]].
** [[spoiler:AnOfferYouCantRefuse: Posey also made sure to point out that if Rainbow wouldn't take the job, he would force her mother to do it.]]
* JerkAss
** [[spoiler:JerkassWoobie]]
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Diagnosed as a cause of her issues in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala''.
--> '''Raindrops:''' "That buck-all attitude is half the problem with the weather captain we’ve got back in Ponyville. She’s got connections in Cloudsdale, she knows she won’t ever be fired…so it means she can goof off and be lazy whenever she wants."
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Abuses her weather manager position in ''Griffin Over The Line''.
** In ''Tales of Ponyville'', she sees no problem with ruining everypony's day with lots of unscheduled rain if it means Fluttershy can go to the spa without having to deal with passersby.
!!Pinkie Pie
!!!Earth pony. Hyperactive party-loving pony who's always ready to throw another party. And another. And another. And...
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Trixie calls her out on her not stopping to do things like finding out what ponies really like or telling them what's going on before bounding off on a sugar-fueled tangent.
* GenkiGirl: Duh.
* RealityEnsues: Since she's not the Element of Laughter in this continuity, and often forgets to take other ponies' wants into account, her behavior tends to come across as bothersome rather than delightful.
!!Windowpane
!!!Earth pony. Window repair pony for Ponyville.
* FirstNameBasis: With Trixie.
--> ''Trixie shook her head, wondering for the hundredth time how she was on a first name basis with the window-repair pony.''
* RecurringExtra: Mostly appears or is mentioned whenever [[RunningGag Trixie's window is broken]].
!!Cloud Kicker
!!!Pegasus, nominal assistant weather manager, second to Rainbow Dash. Does not take pressure well.
* NumberTwo
!!Silver Script
!!!Pegasus. Post Master for Ponyville (and therefore Ditzy Doo's boss).
* BadassBystander
* BenevolentBoss
* [[AFatherToHisMen A Father To His Employees]]: And ready to [[PapaWolf love and tolerate the shit out of anypony who threatens his employees.]]
* TheNicknamer: He calls his baseball bat "Love & Tolerance" and his sledge hammer "Gentle Persuasion".
!!Caramel
!!!Earth Pony and Big Macintosh's friend who works in Sweet Apple Acres.
* TheKlutz: [[ObfuscatingStupidity acts the role]] in ''A Hard Bargain'' [[spoiler: to get information of Parley's suspicious-looking thugs]].
* {{TheLancer}}/{{Sidekick}}: in his and Bic Mac's AdventureDuo.
!!Ivory Scroll
!!!Earth pony. Mayor of Ponyville.
*
!!The Flower Trio
!!! Lily, Daisy and Rose: three melodramatic earth pony friends who run a flower business together.
* ComicalOverreacting
* [[DramaQueen Drama Queens]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: They're so close together that many mistakenly think they are sisters.
* [[ThoseTwoGuys Those Three Mares]]
!!Coconut
!!!Earth pony. Surfer. Which makes one question why he's in Ponyville, as the entire province it's in is land-locked.
* OneSceneWonder
* SurferDude
* TotallyRadical
!!Featherbed
!!!Pegasus. Her special talent is napping.
* TheDitz

!!Red Splasher
!!!Pegasus. Fire chief of Ponyville. He's an older professional firepony who leads a crew of volunteers.

!!Scootaloo
!!!Pegasus. Friend of Sweetie Belle and underachiever, at least insofar as school work is concerned.
* BizarreTasteInFood: Uses liquid rainbow as dip. (As in, the stuff not even canon Pinkie Pie could handle.)
* BookDumb: Balances between this and DumbJock.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Ask anypony if she drives way too fast with her scooter.
* [[FearlessFool Fearless Foal]]: Always comes up with new ideas for crazy ([[HeroOfAnotherStory offscreen]]) stunts or adventures.
* MissingMom: Her mother died a year before the ''Longest Night, Longest Day'' happened.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl/[[ThoseTwoGuys Those Two Foals]]: with Sweetie Belle.
!!Sweetie Belle
!!!Unicorn, Rarity's little sister, friend of Scootaloo.
* PrecociousCrush: Has it bad for Cheerilee. [[spoiler: She admits her feelings in ''[[ValentinesDayEpisodes "To Cheerilee, with Love"]]'', but Cheerilee gently turns her down.]]
* [[StraightMan Straight Filly]]
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl/[[ThoseTwoGuys Those Two Foals]]: with Scootaloo.
!!Applebloom
!!!Earth pony. Applejack's little sister. Very defensive of her family.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: Mild example. While she's still child at heart, she has carried the pressure for the Trust's future from a little foal. Applejack wishes [[ChildrenAreInnocent she could grow up without the burden]].
* ThickerThanWater
!!Diamond Tiara
!!!Earth pony. Very rich.
* DaddysGirl: Oh, so much.
--> '''Filthy Rich''': ''“Now, if anypony asks, I spent seven hundred bits on your mother and a hundred and fifty on you, okay, honey?”''
* LovableAlphaBitch: Thanks to her occasional PetTheDog moments and SympatheticPOV in ''Scootalong to the Cheer''.
* NoSocialSkills: ''Scootalong to the Cheer'' reveals that most of Diamond Tiara's abrasiveness and hostility is a defensive facade to cover up her insecurity and awkwardness around other ponies. [[{{Tsundere}} Especially Scootaloo]].
* PetTheDog: After confirming several times that Dinky really did earn all those bits by herself with hard work, compliments her on a job well done. (Though she also makes it very clear she doesn't want that being spread around at school, obviously!)
* PuppyLove: Has a '''MASSIVE''' crush on Scootaloo.
* RescueRomance: Was "saved" by Scootaloo from a phoney kidnapping some time before Trixie arrived in Ponyville.
* SourSupporter: Tends to fall into this role in stories that group her with other foals.
* SpoiledBrat
* {{Tsundere}}: towards Scootaloo.
!!Silver Spoon
!!!Earth pony. Also very rich.
* [[YesMan Yes Filly]]
!!Bee Bop
!!! Pegasus. Friends with Featherweight. Kind of loud.
* NoIndoorVoice: Her mom says she sounds just like a princess.
!!Snips
!!!Unicorn. Snails' best friend.
!!Featherweight
!!Archer
!!Alula
!!!A pegasus-unicorn hybrid. Since she looks like an alicorn, and since pegacorns are so rare (no more than six or so in the whole world) as to be practically unheard of, the other foals often treat her like a princess-to-be and request her wisdom for all sorts of problems. She doesn't feel especially princess-y and would rather just play with pottery.

* [[spoiler:ViciousCycle: Luna has seen it become infested by greedy, selfish 'nobles' before. Several times, in fact. Since she's unwilling to risk JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope, she purges it through entirely legal means every few generations, fully aware future members will give into temptation again.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: After [[spoiler:cutting a deal with Zizanie]] and realizing that the corruption is worse than she could have thought, Luna reminds the Night Court that the Mayors of the towns and cities of Equestria could easily form a new, BETTER government than the one that currently exists.
!!Princess Luna Equestris
!!!Alicorn. Ruler of Equestria, shephard of the moon, and caretaker of the sun. Trixie's teacher in the art of magic and politics. Corona's younger sister. Immortal and incredibly powerful.
!!![[http://i49.tinypic.com/10elmyr.png Profile]]
* BerserkButton: Whatever you do, don't screw up performing the 'Symphony for Moon and Sun'.
* DarkIsNotEvil: even if she has a bit dubious reputation.
* [[spoiler: {{Despair Event Horizon}}[=/=]HeroicBSOD: Suffered one after she banished Corona to the Sun, spending the next twelve years in a drunk, depressed rampage neglecting her responsibilities for Equestria. It took years of her to pull herself together and start stabilizing the kingdom from its near collapse.]]
* [[spoiler:DrowningMySorrows: Spent the first twelve years after Corona's banishment WanderingTheEarth as a depressed drunkard.]]
* FatalFlaw: Low self-confidence, primarily because she knows how close she was to becoming the villain if Celestia hadn't done so first. This is why she allows the ViciousCycle of corruption in the Night Court to continue, because she is terrified that she isn't strong enough to avoid JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope. She gets called out on it in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'':
--> “You’re not scared of being seen as a tyrant, you’re scared of [[HeWhoFightsMonsters becoming one,]] [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre even though you never would.]] You’re so afraid – that you’d rather just let Equestria go through these cycles then risk taking any real action, using any of your power. You’re afraid. All the time, you’re afraid. You’ve become used to it. You’re ''scared of yourself.''”
* TheFettered: Knows full well about the corruption in the Night Court, but steadfastly adheres to the law of the land instead of claiming autocratic power because that is how her sister fell.
* FriendToAllChildren: Trixie mentions that Luna likes children in ''Longest Night, Longest Day''.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Her reaction to dealing with all the wannabe Celestia imposters a scant twenty years after her sister's banishment.
** NailedToTheWagon: Unfortunately, she previously used a pair of Royal Commands to ensure she never overindulges, meaning her retainers are forced to deny her.
* IShouldHaveBeenBetter: She opens the Grand Galloping Gala by personally apologizing to the citizens of Ponyville for letting the Night Court get as out of control as it did.
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: While she is saddened to see friends and acquaintances and even the occasional lover die, Luna accepts that she is immortal and does not regret it. Ponies die and she does not, and that's just how things are. WordOfGod is that this is in fact the default view of alicorns.
* PhysicalGod
* PoliticallyActivePrincess
* [[KingIncognito Princess Incognito]]: Is known to occasionally disguise herself as a mortal pony (or more than one, as in ''Longest Night, Longest Day'') so that she can interact with her subjects as their equal rather than as their ruler.
* Really700YearsOld: Like Corona, she's so old that even she's forgotten her exact age, yet physically she appears young enough that [[CrowningMomentOfFunny Shining Armor thought she looked cute in glasses]] (much to his own consternation).
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Trixie tells her this in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala''.
!!Viceroy Nightlight
!!!Unicorn. Leader of House Starlight. Father to Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor, and husband of Twilight Velvet.
* BenevolentBoss: Is willing to trust his employees, within reason.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Thanks to what happened to Twilight Sparkle, he apparently wants [[spoiler:all of Ponyville]] to suffer. [[spoiler: Ditzy]] calls him out on it in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'', using [[spoiler: her own motherhood]] to deflect his ThickerThanWater excuse.
* IrrationalHatred: Of Trixie. She wasn't entirely to blame for Twilight becoming a wanted fugitive, yet he despises her for it all the same.
* ObstructiveBureaucrat
* PapaWolf
* [[SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids Silly Trixie, Idealism is For Fillies]]: When Trixie tries to call him out for his DisproportionateRetribution, he just shrugs and makes a pithy comment about how she doesn't understand how the Night Court works.
* SuperOCD: He doesn't much like it when things are out of place. At all.
!!Vicereine Puissance
!!! Pegasus. Leader of House Optiebeurs-Golo. Aging but extremely powerful member of the Night Court. Utterly ruthless in defending her position.
* TheCollector
** CollectorOfTheStrange: WordOfGod is that she loves to collect rare and valuable things, and ponies too. She's especially fond of pegasus-unicorn hybrids, since they are very rare (only five or in existence at any given time) and they look kind of like alicorns.
** ''Treasure City'' shows that she has at least two pegacorns (including one that looks almost exactly like Celestia), an earthicorn, a descendant of King Sombra (who has his shadow powers), a 4-winged pegasus, a null pony, and a half-pony, half-windigo hybrid.
** She's had seven foals; WordOfGod is that this is a natural extension of her desire to collect.
** ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'' even suggests that she collects ''provinces''. She is the vicereine of both Califurlong and Palomino. For comparison, every other noble we've met has been in charge of only one province.
* EvilCounterpart: WordOfGod is that she's this to Ditzy, in respect to their virtues of love and kindness. While Ditzy's love and kindness is altruistic, focused on those that she loves, Puissance only loves things insofar as they glorify or are valuable to her.
* EvilMatriarch: Some of her kids tried to oppose or supplant her. They're all exiled far from Canterlot or worse.
* EvilOldFolks
* {{Greed}}
* MeaningfulName: In more ways than one. Puissance is a kind of horse competition involving difficult (but limited) jumping stunts. Puissance is also an obscure word meaning 'power'.
** Taken UpToEleven in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala,'' where her full name is revealed to be Puissance Noctilucent Optiebeurs-Golo. Optiebeurs Golo is the name of the horse that currently holds the world record for the puissance jump.
* PleasePutSomeClothesOn: Wants this of Luna in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala''. Not out of modesty at all; in fact, she fears being made to look like a fool out of touch with the commoners.
* YesMan: Surrounds herself with these.
!!Vicereine Wallflower
!!!Earth pony. A kind and just Courtier.
!!Archduke Fisher
!!!Unicorn. Another powerful member of the Court. Archduke of Rushia, with particular ties to the industrial city of Stalliongrad.
* AppealToTradition: How he thinks the Court should run.
* EvilCounterpart: WordOfGod says that he might be this to Carrot Top, in regard to their virtues of generosity and altruism. Both are extremely selfless, but while Carrot Top is generous because she believes others have value and deserve help, Fisher is generous because he thinks that individuals do not have value, himself included, and only groups matter, so what he (and others) have must be sacrificed for the good of the group.
* EvilSoundsDeep: His creator said that he thinks of Fisher sounding similar to Johan Schinkler doing a Russian accent. Schinkler is a bass singer with a very deep voice.
* FantasticRacism: WordOfGod is that he's a diehard tribalist who is morally offended that non-unicorns have as much power on the Court that they do.
* HuskyRusskie: Described as having a build more commonly found on earth ponies.
* IrrationalHatred: For Trixie. He sees her as a lazy loafing layabout who squandered the opportunities Luna gave her and is recklessly endangering the nation by refusing to train for the battle with Corona everyone thinks is coming.
* KnightTemplar
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: Spent four years in Stalliongrad, without any of his House's resources. This helped build him into the strong zealot he is now.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: An unusually dark example. The rules he disregards include all manner of laws designed to protect innocents, and his sense of what's right, while sincere, is skewed by his own biases.
** Supplementary material indicates that he burned down one of his own factories because he thought its resources could be better utilized elsewhere and knew that the bad press from shuttering a factory would impact his political bills (which, of course, he deemed were too important to national concerns to risk).
* [[SmartPeoplePlayChess Smart Ponies Play Chess]]: WordOfGod is that he's a fantastic player who hates to lose. He's also one of the more clever politicians in the Court.
* WellIntentionedExtremist
!!Archduchess Nobility
!!!Unknown tribe.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Implied to happen to Captain Lightning, once he gets her to vote a certain way for what turns out to be a bogus reason.
!!Duchess Fragrant Posey
!!!Pegasus. Duchess in the Night Court, related to Fluttershy.
* MamaBear: [[spoiler:Wants to take Trixie to task for 'threatening' Fluttershy and temporarily abducting one of her chickens. The problem is that when Fragrant heard of this, she didn't understand that Trixie barely knew who Fluttershy was, and what she did know made her feel sorry for her.]]
* OldShame: She once accepted a bribe early in her career and, after Luna's asking if there is one honest pony in the Night Court, has the decency to say No.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Read Trixie the riot act for the incidents that flipped her MamaBear switch, but was also willing to give her a little benefit of the doubt when Trixie gave her side of the story and swore that she bore [[spoiler:Fluttershy]] no ill will.
!!Duke Greengrass
!!![[http://tharag.deviantart.com/gallery/38822384#/d58tbr3 Profile]]
!!!Earth pony, Politician. A young and aggressive member of the Night Court.
* AccentuateTheNegative: His special talent of weeding makes him very good at finding ponies' weaknesses. He is lousy at noticing a pony's strengths. His inner monologue about Trixie in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'' paints her as a seething mass of flaws and vices, copmletely ignoring all of the virtue she has displayed.
* [[CanadaEh Caneighda Eh]]: The Duke's province.
* TheChessmaster: How he apparently works.
* CrazyEnoughToWork
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: [[spoiler: (to Luna, as a result of ''Truth is a Scourge'' kicking in) "You useless cow."]]
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: His father was a pony who continuously placed the welfare of the nation before himself, and spent fifty years doing everything he could for Equestria, and virtually nothing for himself. Not only does Greengrass think he was a loser, but he doesn't understand that his dad was trying to help others, as opposed to simply amassing power for himself. Also, when [[spoiler: Lyra]] confronts him ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'', he expresses the view that he cannot imagine the Element-bearers not wanting to use their status for political gain.
* EvilCounterpart: An example of WhatMightHaveBeen. He wound up opposing Lyra more than the other Elements, and both exemplify loyalty -- but while both are deathly loyal to their close friends and allies, Lyra is also loyal to those further away for her, while the Duke is quite willing to 'weed' anyone who isn't under his protection. He also harshly punishes those who are disloyal to him, while Lyra is more forgiving. However, because this arose late in the character's development, this aspect of the character wasn't as pronounced.
* IrrationalHatred: Not for his enemy Trixie, but for traitors in general. He'll fire incompetent employees, but he will obliterate ones that betray him, even if the betrayal wasn't successful or meaningful.
* ManipulativeBastard
* MassiveMultiplayerScam: At least one of his cons works like this.
* OneSceneWonder: In ''Carrot Top Season.''
** ADayInTheLimeLight: ''Greengrass' Night''.
* UndyingLoyalty: His one virtue. While he'll obliterate traitors, he'll go to the ends of the world for his loyal employees.
* VisionaryVillain: He wants to control Equestria like his own garden, tending to it and helping it 'grow' into something far greater and more glorious than its current state.
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: His special talent is ''weeding''. [[spoiler: As in, [[AttackItsWeakPoint finding objects' weaknesses and exploiting them]] [[HeartIsAnAwesomePower to his advantage, if not outright disposing]] them.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: He always makes sure to discard anything harmful or no longer valuable to him.
!!Duke Sands
!!!Unknown tribe. Plays chess with Fragrant Posey.
!!Count Shiny Copper Coin
!!!Earth pony. A noble of the Court. His county includes the land inhabited by the tiny village of Oaton.
* AntiVillain: Type II. He wishes that he didn't have to engage in the activities that are harming Oaton, but can't see any other course of action for what he needs.
* BigBrotherInstinct: One of the main reasons for his alliance with the Lumber Guild is to find his little sister Tarnished and bring her back home.
* [[spoiler: ImpoverishedPatrician]]: [[spoiler: His parents drove the family so deep into debt before he came to power that he's forced to work with criminals and smugglers just to try to slow the bleeding.]]
* SpeechImpediment: Has a stutter that he can suppress with effort.
* [[spoiler: SympatheticCriminal]]
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: [[spoiler: With Cheerilee.]]
!!Viscount Prince Blueblood
!!!Unicorn. Viscount in the Night Court with a vendetta against Trixie for reasons unknown.
* DemotedToExtra: In the earlier stories [[WhatCouldHaveBeen he was intended to become the primary political antagonist for the Lunaverse Six]], before Duke Greengrass took the role.
* EvilCounterpart: To Trixie, in regard to her Element of Magic. Both are minor political figures, but while Trixie uses her talents to help others, Blueblood's only interests are himself and restoring his family line to prominence.
* GutFeeling: His special talent is "direction", and expresses itself this way. As long as he follows his instincts and doesn't get too caught up in his own attempts at scheming, he tends to benefit.
** A good example is at the Gala, when he accepts Pinkie Pie as his companion for the night. [[spoiler:Since she keeps Zizanie and Raindrops from getting close enough to poison him with the Scourge, and she drinks his (spiked) punch before he can, he is spared from the effects of the Scourge.]]
* HiddenDepths: His [[ADayInTheLimeLight "Longest Night" side story]] shows that he's highly devoted to restore his family's old status, and he was the first in line to gather the unicorn nobility to help the Royal Guard against Corona.
** Trope's even mentioned by name by [[spoiler: Zizanie]].
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: Played with. Prince is his real name, but not his actual title.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: His ancestor had ([[IDidWhatIHadToDo presumably]]) sided with Corona, which brought the whole family into unpopularity in the Night Court. The whole Blueblood line has ever since worked to earn back their FamilyHonor.
* OldShame: The above-mentioned past with Corona.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: He's actually depicted as being reasonably politically savvy, if underinformed. He's simply outclassed by serious players like Greengrass.
* ThemeNaming: The Blueblood family make a habit of naming their children after ranks of nobility higher than their actual station.
* ThickerThanWater
!!Baron Mounty Max
!!!Unknown tribe. Junior member of the court. Naive, and would rather be rock climbing.
* NiceGuy: His few appearances have shown him to be very friendly and approachable.
!!Baron Stud Poker
!!!Unknown tribe. Junior member of the court. Won his seat in a card game.
!!Lady Calcite

!!Notary

!!!Earth pony. Greengrass's secretary and assistant.
* HuskyRusskie: Subverted.Despite being from Moscolt, she's not physically imposing in the slightest.
* HyperCompetentSidekick
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: Subverted. Whatever she learned in Rushia was more about stealth and being sneaky than strength.
* ServileSnarker
!! [[spoiler: Court Musician]] Octavia Philharmonica

* [[spoiler: DoubleAgent: until was spotted by Greengrass in ''Symphony for Moon and Sun'']]
* ElegantClassicalMusician: And how.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Has had a CharacterDevelopment arc throughout the season that is arguably as meaningful as those of the Elements of Harmony, even getting her own character focus episodes.
* FightingFromTheInside: She's been the victim of attempted brainwashing by two foes so far: a squad of mercenaries who try to immobilize her by flooding her mind with paralyzing, despairing thoughts, and a metal musician who uses magic music to try to force her to love his mediocre works. She fights them off both times. As one commentator noted, she has a mind like a steel trap.
* TheMentor: to Lyra.
** [[spoiler: BrokenPedestal: Is revealed to be Greengrass' agent who was supposed to bring Lyra under his influence.]]
** [[spoiler: HeelFaceTurn: and then she [[DoubleAgent starts working for Trixie]] [[TheAtoner in order to protect Lyra]].]]
* OddFriendship: With the hyperactive, over-excited Paperweight.
* SilkHidingSteel: A soft-spoken, elegant, refined artist. But make the mistake of pushing her too far, and ''[[AdaptationalBadass she will wreck you]]''.
* SuperSenses: her hearing is very, ''very'' good. Even if render yourself invisible '''and''' inaudible, she can sense your presence via sensing the surrounding echoes, as Trixie learned.
!!Ox and Bear

* OddFriendship: With the reserved, serious Octavia.
!!Solar Flare
!!!Vicereine Puissance's chief of staff, and her bodyguard when Puissance is on her own territory. A pegasus-unicorn hybrid who looks almost exactly like Corona. Hated and feared by most who see her but 'loved' by Puissance, she will do anything for her master.

!!Fancy Pants
!!!Unicorn. Advisor to Luna. Appears to be a fashion-obsessed nitwit, but is actually the head of the Shadowbolt spy operation.
* AdaptationalBadass: In canon, he's just a celebrity, in the Lunaverse, [[spoiler: he's Luna's personal spy on the Night Court.]]
* ObfuscatingStupidity
* RichIdiotWithNoDayJob: a rich but naïve noble without any specific position nor property [[spoiler: and Princess Luna's ears and eyes for the darker side of the Night Court, with tons of connections beneath the surface]].
!!Fleur de Lis
!!!Unicorn. Fancy Pant's companion. Appears to be an airhead.
* FanNickname: Referred to in the comments section as "Upside-Down Fleur" [[spoiler:due to how she usually goes about talking to Octavia]]. An "Ask Upside-Down Fleur" tumblr has been suggested.
* [[spoiler: MasterOfDisguise]]

* [[spoiler: ReformedCriminal: a former burglar. She still knows how to climb castle walls and disguise herself, however.]]
* TrophyWife
!!Captain Shining Armor
!!!Unicorn. Captain of the Royal Guard, Twilight Sparkle's older brother.
* BarrierWarrior: Acts as a center-point in Canterlot's defense field [[spoiler: against Corona]], albeit with practically every unicorn in Canterlot helping to boost the spell. Even so, by himself his barriers are strong enough that even Twilight can't break through them [[spoiler: without cracking the universe in the process]].
* BigBrotherInstinct: Cares very deeply for Twily, his LSBFF.
!!Spitfire
!!!Pegasus. Head of the Wonderbolts.
[[/folder]]
[[folder:Villains & Antagonists]]
!!Corona
!!!Alicorn. The Tyrant Sun. Wants to take over Equestria, and is the single most dangerous threat to Equestria as a whole that we yet know of. Older sister of Luna. Completely insane, immortal, and even more powerful than Luna. Speaks in early modern English. Real name is Celestia (and demands to be addressed as such).
* AGodAmI
* BerserkButton: Do not call her Corona, do not treat her disrespectfully, do not blame her for anything, do not dare thinking her rule would be anything but just and righteous, do not mock her speech... [[HairTriggerTemper the list goes on and on]].
* TheCaligula
* CatchPhrase / IAmTheTrope: "I am the SUN!"
* EvilIsHammy: her spouting of threats and demanding ponies to acknowledge her royal sovereignty can be [[LargeHam highly entertaining]], when it's not menacing.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
* MadGod
* PhysicalGod
* Really700YearsOld: Like her younger sister Luna, she has forgotten her exact age beyond "millennia." [[BrickJoke No word as to whether she looks cute in glasses, though.]]
* RedemptionRejection: Luna offers her sister a chance to start over, but the mares mind is to far gone to even consider it.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: She believes to be the only one capable of protecting Equestria. [[WellIntentionedExtremist Which requires her to take absolute control of everything under the Sun.]]
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Played with. Corona does not regret being immortal, but as a natural immortal she views ponies as gnats. Far from thinking of them as expendable and unimportant, however, she believes that she is the only one who can protect them from everything that would want to hurt them - it's ''her'' burden to bear.
** In other words, she doesn't regret her immortality, so much as regret that everypony else ''isn't'' immortal.
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: after being banished to the Sun for a thousand years, her grasp on Equestrian is a bit outdated. She begs to differ on her command of the tongue.
!!Zecora
!!!Zebra. Skilled potion-maker and alchemist, also has the gift of prophecy, though how exact is unknown. Always speaks in rhyme. [[spoiler: Loyal to Corona.]]
* RhymesOnADime
* [[{{Seers}} Seer]]: [[spoiler: At least claims to have foreseen the return of Corona, and arrived to Equestria as her servant.]]
* SixthRanger: worked as a guide for the main six through the Everfree Forest.
** [[spoiler: SixthRangerTraitor: ... and was quick to inform Corona of their plans, as she is Sun worshiper.]]
* [[spoiler: SycophanticServant: a mix of this and BeleagueredAssistant, as she's genuinely loyal and efficient servant, yet has to work through constantly butt-kissing her arrogant and bad-tempered boss.]]
!!Spike
!!!Baby dragon. Zecora's friend, but otherwise we don't know much about him. Does not seem to like the whole Corona situation. Somewhat snarky. Corona can force him to age, making him giant and giving him wings, and also turning him into a hulking, hungry brute. Probably not a fan of this, either.
* TokenGoodTeammate: ''Really'' doesn't like Corona, and only sticks with her because of his friendship with Zecora.
!!Twilight Sparkle
!!!Unicorn. Magical prodigy of immense power and knowledge. No social skills to speak of. Currently wanted by the law of Equestria, but does not appear to be actively hostile. Shining Armor's little sister.
* AccentuateTheNegative: When trying to explain to Spike why Trixie and the rest of the Luna Six aren't worthy bearers of the Elements, Twilight lists all of their flaws while blanking out on any sort of positive traits they might have.
* AccidentalPublicConfession: In her shock at the climatic events of ''Boast Busted'', she blurts out that she [[spoiler:summoned the Ursa Minor to Ponyville just to get revenge on Trixie]] in front of everypony present. Public opinion promptly turns against her.
* AdaptationalVillainy: The whole Lunaverse basically started with the switch in roles of Trixie and Twilight.
* BigBrotherWorship: Her respect for Shining Armor is not only why she selected [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute Silverstar]] as her 'superior' element of Harmony, it's why she rejected the idea that some lazy musician could possibly be the Element of Loyalty when someone like BBBFF would be a much better fit.
* BreakTheHaughty: As of her latest appearance (in the Mane Six's world), starting to realize that it could just be that Trixie just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
* BrokenAce: probably the strongest unicorn sorceress in whole Equestria. Is also [[SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining socially inept and has no life outside studying]], and more or less cares only about learning even more magic.
* BrokenPedestal: Was actually looking forward to meeting the bearer of the Element of Magic... until she actually met Trixie.
* DramaticallyMissingthePoint: Her stated reason for hating Trixie is that the charlatan and her band of thugs failed to do what Luna "clearly" intended them to and banish Corona back into the Sun. Once she does the "right" thing, she's quite confident that Luna will reward her. (To be fair, she's like most Equestrians in that she hasn't the blindest idea that Luna wants to cure Corona of her madness; she just has more ability to make a mess of things trying to save the world.)
* FailedASpotCheck: Without friends to calm her down or ground her in reality, she tends to miss the obvious when it's staring her right in the muzzle.
* FatalFlaw: Cannot -- '''will not''' admit [[ThePerfectionist she could ever be wrong]] about anything, for to acknowledge ''one'' [[FelonyMisdemeanor mistake would open up the potential]] of ''others''.
* IgnoredEpiphany: During ''Chance Encounter'', she allows as how perhaps she could have handled her meeting with Trixie better for a second or two but dismisses the possibility. It takes until she goes to the Mane Six's world for the realization she'd played her cards atrociously to stick.
* NoSocialSkills: Like M!Twilight, but UpToEleven.
* NotHelpingYourCase: Really doesn't do herself any favors in ''Boast Busted''.
* TheRival: Views herself as such to Trixie after ''Boast Busted'', eventually [[spoiler:planning on [[StartMyOwn forming her own]] Elements of Harmony to prove her superiority.]]
* RonTheDeathEater: [[invoked]] Just how villainous she actually is has been under debate ever since ''Boast Busted''. In-universe, she's not too popular in Ponyville, thanks to Trixie painting her in a bad light and her own unfortunate actions.
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: She has studied an exceptional variety of spells, unfortunately she completely ignored all social skill along the way.
* ShadowArchetype: Trixie is an extroverted showoff and kind of a jerk, but also [[IJustWantToHaveFriends afraid of being left alone]] and willing to work on her flaws; Twilight is an introvert, reclusive and socially inconsiderate and [[ImNotHereToMakeFriends doesn't think she needs friends]], nor sees her flaws as a problem.
* {{Teleportation}}: Her mastery of this enables her to evade capture and keep running away from her problems and issues rather than facing them.
!!Zizanie
!!!Discordian Unicorn. Spy, illusionist and a shape-shifter. Does not like Trixie at all due to having worked for her whilst in disguise. Once worked for Blueblood.
* BodyHorror: Of all of the ponies freaked out by her using her power to the fullest (and thus manifesting as a draconequus), she was the most disturbed of the lot.
* HumiliationConga: Her time as [[BadBoss Trixie's]] assistant. She thought Trixie [[JerkassFacade treated her like that due to]] [[PayEvilUntoEvil having seen through her disguise]]... only to learn that Trixie did it unintentionally, just [[JerkAss being her usual self]].
* InvoluntaryShapeshifting: Gains draconequus traits when overusing her chaos magic.
* MasterOfDisguise
* MasterOfIllusion: She's really skilled at making her illusions subtle and hard to spot.
* MeaningfulName: Her name is [[BilingualBonus a French word]] that was [[{{Foreshadowing}} chosen on purpose]]. [[spoiler: [[http://dictionary.reverso.net/french-english/zizanie "Ill-feeling"]] ]]
* TheMole: pretending to be an applicant for the job of Representative's assistant.
* RealityWarper: In a limited fashion. She was able to break Trixie's illusions and temporarily take away her horn. [[spoiler:She was even able to slip out of one of [[BarrierWarrior Shining Armor's]] containment spells.]]
!!The Sirens
!!!Three sirens (names unknown) who live in the Everfree Forest. Surprisingly pleasant for beings who want to lure ponies into a river so that they can drown, and then eat them.
* AffablyEvil
* EnthrallingSiren: Well, duh.
* OneSceneWonder: with a musical number!
* PunchClockVillain: Only trying to get some lunch out of ponies.
* [[ThoseTwoGuys ThoseThreeVillains]]
!!Gilda
!!!Griffin, Rainbow Dash's friend. A jerk with a heart of more jerkiness and a bad influence on Rainbow Dash.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Getting into a fight with Raindrops convinced Gilda that "Dropsy" was a really good friend... Nopony's really sure how that happened.
* WorthyOpponent: views Raindrops as such.
!!Flim and Flam
!!!Two con-artist unicorns hired by Greengrass as part of his political schemes.
* ConMan
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: They were utterly baffled that Carrot Top [[spoiler: saved the Apples crops from the Farmslayers]]
* LaserGuidedKarma: They abducted Apple Bloom. This was the final straw for Greengrass, who was worried that he'd be blamed (since they were technically working for him at the time). He thus had them sent to jail and put in solitary confinement so they can't tell anyone he hired them.
* MoralEventHorizon: They kidnapped Apple Bloom as part of a political gambit. The fans rejoiced at their comeuppance.
* PutOnABus: After they screw up in a major way, Greengrass frames them for treason and has them arrested.

* ThePowerOfRock: Can brainwash ponies with his metal music.
* TheRockStar
!! Bellemane

[[JustifiedTrope Justified]], though, in that [[spoiler:she is literally created out of the animosity between the two bearers of the Element of Magic and their interdimensional counterparts, and hasn't even existed long enough to start forming any other motivation]].
* ForTheEvulz: Why she wants to kill the Twilights and Trixies from both the Lunaverse and Celestiaverse.
* [[HasTwoMommies Has Four Mommies]]: [[spoiler: The Twilights and Trixies from both the Lunaverse and Celestiaverse.]]
* PowerOfTheVoid
* YoungerThanTheyLook: [[spoiler: Is created by the shattering of the Element of Magic, meaning that she's only a few hours old at most when she first meets her "mothers".]]

[[folder:The Elements of Failmony]]
A group of supposed Element Bearers gathered by Twilight Sparkle in the LooseCanon tie-in ''Elements of Insanity'', in order to prove Trixie unworthy of the Element of Magic.
!!Twilight Sparkle
!!!See Villains & Antagonists
!!Silverstar
!!!A formerly heroic Frontiersman who has become a shell of his former self following a personal tragedy. Twilight's choice for the Element of Loyalty.
* DrowningMySorrows: Sought solace in the bottom of bottles
* FailureKnight
* IGaveMyWord
* KnightInSourArmor
* ReplacementGoldfish: Fills an unspoken and unacknowledged void left by Twilie's inability to contact her BBFFF.
!!Clover Charms
!!!An unfortunate pony better known by her ironic nickname of ''Lucky''. Though not Twilight's original choice for Laughter, was deemed a perfect fit after they spoke.
* BizarreTasteInFood: Improvising meals put together from whatever was most heavily discounted has led to her developing lots of... ''interesting'' recipes.
** Heaven help us all if she and Trixie ever teamed up to host a dinner party.
* CannotTellAJoke
* DeadpanSnarker
* DistaffCounterpart: Of a [[http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Lucky male]] background pony with whom she shares her nickname, cutie mark, and coat color.
** CompositeCharacter: In addition to the male Lucky, another background pony considered for the role was [[http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Shoeshine Shoeshine]] from whom she got her curly mane and arguably gender.
* IronicNickname: She's got plenty of ''luck'', unfortunately it's all bad.
* MeaningfulName: When combined, her nickname and last name are the same as a well-known kids' breakfast cereal. Her first name and cutie mark are even one of the associated marshmallows.
** According to WordOfGod this was a happy accident of changing the character's name (originally Lucky Clovers) to fit her IAmSong.
* ThePollyanna: Though not out of naiveté or ignorance. She is all too aware that with her rotten life she would have every good reason to [[{{Wangst}} wallow in despair]], but instead chooses to meet each and every day with an uncompromising [[AngstWhatAngst smile]].
--> ''"How could that not be the easiest choice in the world to make?"''
* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Mare]]
* {{Schadenfreude}}: Is all too aware of this effect, and this is primarily how she brings others cheer: by making them glad they're not ''her''.
!!Snowflake [=McHugeLarge=]
!!!A highly enthusiastic pegasus bodybuilder with underdeveloped wings. Twilight deems him the Element of Honesty.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny
* {{Determinator}}
* DumbMuscle: Percieved as such due to his many quirks.
* NoIndoorVoice
* SorryBillyButYouJustDontHaveLegs: His underdeveloped wings and impaired hearing mean he can't become a Wonderbolt or royal guard. Not that he's letting that stop him.
!!Loosey Screws and Woody Wittles:
!!!Earth pony mother and her pegasus son. Lossey is the Lunaverse version of the pony who barked like a dog in Read It and Weep. Silverstar selected her to be the Element of Kindness because she was someone noble and good he'd encountered during the unspecified atrocity that led to his current state of self-doubt. Sadly, the horrors of the incident have reduced her to a shell of her former kindly, energetic self despite Lemonhearts' 'healing' her. Her caretaker son is somewhat too ready to forgive Silverstar for his liking...which qualifies him to be her stand-in.
* BrokenBird: Even though she's able to speak again, she's a ghost of the friendly figure she was before the nameless catastrophe that destroyed Silverstar's faith in himself.
!!Lemonhearts:
!!!Unicorn. The public at large knows her as the generous care-taker of a group of orphans which is why Twilight made the good-faith choice of selecting her as the Element of Generosity. Privately, though, she represents a threat that not even Luna herself seems to be aware of; that's because she and her charges are descendants of Discord himself ready to spread chaos in their ancestor's name.
* BitchInSheepsClothing
* GameFace
* OrphanageOfLove: Runs one as a cover for her true nature.

[[folder:Historical figures: Musicians]]
Six musicians who attempted to play the ''Symphony for Moon and Sun'', an infamously difficult work with a lost ending.
!!Concerti Brilliante
!!!The first musician to try, excluding the composer. His ending emphasized Luna's strength and raw power.
!!Fame Fortisi
!!!The second musician to try. Her ending emphasized Luna's cunning and intelligence.
* TheRival: to Concerti, who overshadowed her in [[IncrediblyLamePun fame]].
!!Stringer
!!!The twelfth musician to try. A scam artist. Her ending was flashy and glitzy, with no further themes.
* [[ConMan Con Mare]]
!!Red Magician
!!!Unicorn. The twenty-seventh musician to try. His ending emphasized Luna's magical prowess and skill.
!!Sweet Song
!!!The thirty-ninth musician to try. Mentally disabled, and can do little besides play the violin. Her ending mimicked the existing music as closely as possible.
* [[TheRainman The Rainmare]]: more or less ''only'' thing she can do is play violin.
!!Off Beat
!!!Sweet Song's agent and brother, who got her the concert in the hopes of seeing her fail.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: he's got some talent in music, but compared to [[TheRainman his sister]]...
* BigBrotherBully
* TheCaretaker: to her sister, and ''hates'' it, as he feels she's [[AllTakeAndNoGive holding him back]] from the successful career he wished for himself.
* HeadsIWinTailsYouLose: His plan for Sweet Song's concert. If she succeeds, he'd get the credit as her primary caretaker while she'd embarrass herself by being mentally disabled. If she fails, it would be the end of her career and he'd be able to get rid of her. [[spoiler: [[DidntThinkThisThrough He didn't account that]] if she fails, he'd be the one to be blamed as he was responsible for choosing the piece to begin with.]]
* JerkAss: He briefly considered just leaving to have his own life, but instead agreed to become his sister's agent specifically to ruin her life, taking pleasure in the fact that his actions make her cry uncontrollably at night and ultimately ruining her love of music.
!!Piano Amour
!!!The forty-ninth musician to try. Her ending emphasized Luna's despair and the sheer destruction of the battle.
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: in-universe. Compared to the previous attempts, her rendition of the symphony is a lot darker and sadder, focusing on Luna's DespairEventHorizon. [[spoiler: She went a ''bit'' too far, however, describing it in almost nihilistic light.]]
* IronWoobie: Her family's situation was going downhill so hard that she didn't care anymore even if she'd fail the symphony: she'd get Luna's attention one way or another, no matter what it'd cost to herself.
* ThickerThanWater: she played the symphony in order to help her family.
* ThrowTheDogABone: out of all the failed performers of the symphony, Piano was probably most content with the outcome. [[spoiler: She's also the only one alive to witness when Octavia stops the line of failed attempts by finishing the piece properly, gaining somewhat a closure for her own work too.]]

[[folder:Other]]
!!Mi Amore Cadenza
!!!Alicorn. Princess of Cavallia, a land to Equestria's southeast. Apparently once believed herself to be the reincarnation of all things good about Celestia. ''All tropes below apply to her appearance in'' An Early Reunion, ''980 years before the rest of the Lunaverse, unless otherwise stated.''
* BenevolentBoss: To her retainer, Cartasole. He's explicitly identified as an indentured servant (not quite, but basically, a slave) in the comments of ''An Early Reunion,'' but Cadence treats him with respect and care, even going so far as to try and protect him when it looked like [[ItMakesSenseInContext Luna was going to try and kill her and all the other Celestia impersonators]].
* BiTheWay: ''An Awkward Day'', set approximately 700 years after ''An Early Reunion'', has her mention that one of her previous spouses was a mare.
* ADayInTheLimelight: ''An Early Reunion'' is a distant prequel to the Lunaverse, taking place 980 years before the first episode, and focuses on the then-twenty-year-old's Mi Amore Cadenza's first meeting with Princess Luna.
* DoNotCallMePaul: Played with. Her adoptive parents named her Mi Amore Cadenza, and Luna wants to call her either Cadenza or Cadence since she doesn't believe that she really is Celestia reborn. Cadence, for her part, wants to be called Celestia.
** There's a good reason Luna doesn't believe that Cadence is Celestia reborn. The epilogue of the story reveals that Luna is Cadence's mother.
* AGodAmI: Averted. Cadence's specific goal in ''An Early Reunion'' is basically to become the deity of the sun, but she continuously demonstrates herself to be kind, caring, maybe a little ditzy, but in all ways, even if not necessarily right for the job, certainly not a bad candidate, and a far cry better than her predecessor.
* TheGhost: While ''An Early Reunion'' is explicitly about her first meeting with Luna, in the current time she's yet to make any appearances.
* GoalInLife: Hers, she believes, is to reclaim her throne in Equestria as the alicorn in charge of the sun; she's trying to prove herself to Luna as a result.
* IWantSong: ''An Early Reunion'' opens up with Cadence, believing herself to be Celestia, singing about her goal of coming to Canterlot and reclaiming what she believes to be her rightful throne.
* JumpedAtTheCall: Grew up as an earth pony, but around when other foals were earning their cutie marks, she manifested her horn and wings. She was told that she was the reincarnation of all that was good in Celestia, and has accepted this as fact and is eagerly looking forward to becoming the sun deity.
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: Though the last chapter of ''An Early Reunion'' made mention that, after her first husband died, she did have a brief period of [[WhoWantsToLiveForever regreting her immortality,]] she eventually recovered, and now views her immortality as a positive thing. She regrets every friend and lover who dies, but refuses to let it get her down, instead viewing her life as a progression of one good time to another.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: She married Cartasole after the events of ''An Early Reunion'', but outlived him due to being immortal. She's noted to have had other romances over the centuries, with Shining Armor [[ForegoneConclusion hinted to]] [[OfficialCouple become next]]. [[spoiler: That is, unless the [[DoomedByCanon canon]] is [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] in later fics...]]
** Any pony who wants a long-term commitment with her gets "The Talk" about what it means to love an immortal. That she will be saddened when they pass away, but her heart will eventually open itself up to the possibility of new love with someone else. This does not in any way diminish the love she feels for those she is with, though, or for those who have come before.
* MistakenForAnImposter: Played with. Was one of about thirty ponies all claiming to be Celestia reborn. Luna thought that they were ''all'' imposters and had them all arrested after giving them a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech. However, when Cadence made her presence known, Luna realized that she was an alicorn - though not necessarily Celestia reborn - and had her and Cartasole instead brought into Canterlot castle as guests.
* NaiveNewcomer: while she was prepared to become the princess, she had no real idea of how crapsack world Equestria had become, nor remembers what the era of Corona had really been like.
* NeverGrewUp: In a sense. Despite being 20 years old in ''An Early Reunion,'' and so a full adult, Cadence has yet to earn her cutie mark.
** She does earn it a few years later, though, specifically around the time that Cartasole proposed to her.
* PhysicalGod: ''Is'' an alicorn, just like Luna, but she is very young, and grew up as an earth pony, so her powers at the moment are largely unexplored.
** The side-story ''An Awkward Day'' showcases a much more mature and confident Cadenza, after 700 years of getting comfortable with her power and role as Cavallia's princess. By that point, she's capable of flying faster than sound, casting powerful spells casually, and using the [[NoIndoorVoice Royal Canterlot Voice]] if she feels the need.
* PokeThePoodle: In Chapter 1 of ''An Early Reunion,'' the owner of an inn and tavern was rude to her when she let slip that she believes that she is Celestia reborn, this being a mere 20 years after Celestia went insane and tried to take over Equestria. Her responce?
--> “When I am Princess again, thou shalt ''regret thy actions!'' I will visit ''ruination'' upon thy business! I shall…I shall give it a ''poor review'' and ''none shall wish to dine here!”''
** The owner then points out that the Celestia ''[[CompleteMonster they knew]]'' would have burned the place down.
* SlidingScaleofIdealismVersusCynicism: Well towards the idealist side; arguably, in fact, one of the most positive characters in the entire Lunaverse.
* SpoiledSweet: In Cavallia, she's treated as something of a messiah, and has lived a life of comfort and luxury ever since she discovered her alicorn nature. She also looks forward to being a Princess and feels that luxury and comfort are hers by right. However, she is courteous, kind, [[PokeThePoodle not very good at making threats,]] and seems to want to genuinely help ponies.
** This doesn't change with time, as the last chapter of ''An Early Reunion'' and the side-story ''An Awkward Day'' show.
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: Throughout ''An Early Reunion,'' but then every noble character speaks that way to get the point across that it takes place 980 years ago.
!!Thunderous Posey
!!!Pegasus. Wealthy weather industrialist, father of Fluttershy
* OverprotectiveDad: His daughter wants to live on the ground? Sure, he just arranges somepony to watch over her... [[AnOfferYouCantRefuse by making sure her closest friend moves there to take care of her]].
!!Cloudia
!!!Pegasus. Mother of Rainbow Dash, works for the Posey family.
!!Castor Cut
!!!Unicorn. Dinky Doo and and Amethyst Star's father. Cheated on his wife, May Bell, with Ditzy Doo (which is how Dinky was born).
!!May Bell
!!!Unicorn. Castor Cut's ex-wife and Amethyst Star's mother. Divorced Castor Cut after his affair with Ditzy was revealed.
