Most [[Fanfic/RainbowDoubleDashsLunaverse Lunaverse]] main characters are basically based on [[AscendedExtra background]] [[MemeticBystander ponies]] and [[EnsembleDarkhorse one-shot/supporting characters]] from [[Characters/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic the original series]], with canon!main characters appearing in minor roles. However, the [[AlternateUniverseFic world building]] has fleshed many of them out in different direction from the original show, while still retaining some personality tropes.

Character page is still in progress, as new tropes are added along the characters gaining screen time, and may include accidental/non-marked spoilers.

[[folder:Ponyville: The Lunaverse Six]]
%%%Trixie comes first, and after that, names are sorted alphabetically.
[[caption-width-right:268: The [[AlternateUniverse "new"]] [[AscendedExtra Mane]] [[AdaptationalBadass Six]].[[note]]Clockwise from upper left: [[TeamMom Ditzy Doo]], [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Trixie Lulamoon]], [[AFriendInNeed Carrot Top]], [[TheReliableOne Lyra Heartstrings]], [[TheStoic Raindrops]] and [[CoolTeacher Cheerilee]].[[/note]]]]

* AdaptationalBadass: Lifted from background and minor characters into heroes.
* AuthorityInNameOnly: Their distinction as the Elements of Harmony doesn't give them much political clout.
** Slightly changed as of the end of ''At the Grand Galloping Gala''. They have what's known as the '''Right of Approach''', which means that if they want to see Luna, only she can turn them away - they can't be stymied by secretaries, guards, or whatever. Previously only Equestria's viceroys have had this power.
** Averted entirely on Trixie's part, even before that, since she's Luna's representative in Ponyville.
* BadassNormal: Compared to the Mane Six ([[ChildProdigy Twilight]] [[SuperPowerLottery Sparkle]], [[LightningBruiser Rainbow Dash]] and [[ToonPhysics Pinkie Pie]] most of all), most of the Luna Six are relatively normal ponies who are the Elements of Harmony.
* TheDeterminator: None of them, not even the languid Trixie, are quitters.
* FireForgedFriends: While most of them were at least familiar with each other beforehand, it was the shared adventure against Corona that truly brought them together.
* [[FiveManBand Five Mare Band]]: Although the divide isn't clean and there is significant overlap depending upon the situation.
** Trixie is TheLancer. Oddly for a lancer, she's also TheHero.
** Lyra is a variation on both [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Mare]] (she's "the bard" and knows a lot about magical theory) and [[TheBigGuy The Big Mare]] (when spellcasting)
** Raindrops is [[TheBigGuy The Big Mare]] (physically).
** Ditzy Doo is TheChick, as well as TeamMom.
** Carrot Top is TheChick while doing some time as [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Mare]].
** Cheerilee is TheLeader, though she also doubles as [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Mare]].
* ProtocolPeril: They have a particularly bad habit of mouthing off to ponies and authority figures they ''really'' shouldn't (like the paranoid and controlling vicerein, or the paranoid king of a paranoid kingdom). Except, funnily enough, Trixie (the only one trained in statespony-ship), who in these instances desperately tries to get the others to ''stop talking'' before they have someone else out for them.
* TheoryTunnelvision: Prior to ''The Return of Tambelon'', they were all completely incapable of seeing Corona as anything other than a scheming, malicious monster who needs to be put back in the sun. It's most pronounced with Ditzy, though she does at least have a [[MamaBear reason]].
** And, admittedly, their only real experience with Corona up until that point involved Corona [[WouldHurtAChild threatening to slaughter captive children]], attempting to murder them all, and boasting about how it is all "for their own good." Them having a ''tiny'' bit of ill will towards her is understandable.
* TrueCompanions
* VagueAge: All of them are somewhere in or around the young adult area. Cheerilee is the oldest, and Raindrops is slightly younger than all the others, but beyond that it's a toss-up.

!!Trixie Lulamoon
!!![[ Profile]]

[[caption-width-right:300:Watch in awe!]]

The Element of Magic, the personal student of Princess Luna an the representative of her Night Court to Ponyville. Trixie is extroverted, but abrasive; outgoing, yet insecure. She is talented and knows it, and she wants everypony else to know it as well. She can be difficult to get along with at the best of times, but now that she has true friends, she is determined to keep them.

* AccentRelapse: Returns to a French Creole accent (she was raised in Neigh Orleans) when she gets drunk or annoyed.
* AllergicToRoutine: In "Up and Automaton", she reveals that she's become so used to the chaos Ponyville goes through on a regular basis that she's actually engaging in a game of ''stealth hug'' with Pinkie to keep from going mad with boredom during a surprisingly uneventful week.
* AwesomeButImpractical: Her flying carpet, which in addition to not being all that fast, is also difficult to use and power.
* BadBoss: She has a habit of being unintentionally inconsiderate, abusive, and condescending to those under her employ. After her encounter with Zizanie, she sought to subvert this trope with Pokey to incredibly mixed success.
* TheBigEasy: Is originally from [[UsefulNotes/NewOrleans Neigh Orleans]].
* BigEgoHiddenDepths
* BizarreTasteInFood: Big time.
* {{Blackmail}}: Early on, she attempts to use this frequently. She's just not good at it, at all. On one occasion, Octavia's attempt to claim she's being blackmailed by Trixie falls flat on its face because of this.
-->'''Octavia:''' She lacks the political acuity to blackmail a tree-stump.
* BookDumb: Mild example. She's rather well-read in politics and history as a Luna's student, but not so much in magical theory.
** It's revealed that she's a pony who learns by ''doing'' something, and that learning from a book is difficult for her. She compares learning spells by book to learning to dance by book: you might know all the steps, but unless you get up and do them, you won't know what you're doing.
* BrilliantButLazy: A capable sorceress, but entirely unwilling to learn new spells unless she absolutely has to.
** However, she ''does'' practice the spells she already knows constantly, giving her extremely fine control over them.
* ButtMonkey: Horrible things happen to her on a regular basis. In fairness, some of it is deserved.
* BystanderSyndrome: Suffers from this during the first few episodes by virtue of not being all that heroic.
* CargoShip: Has shades of this In-Universe with Monsieur Bourbon.
* CarnivoreConfusion: She has eaten meat in the past, but never from anything sapient. Her friends sometimes have trouble comprehending this distinction.
* CelibateHero: By way of {{asexuality}}. WordOfGod states that she's not adverse to forming close platonic relationships, but anything physical is right out. There are multiple instances where she's uncomfortable even talking about sex:
** In ''The Night After,'' she is disturbed when she (and most of the neighbors, in all likelihood) hears Bon Bon and Lyra going at it; a few weeks later, in ''Helping...Hands?'', she is still embarrassed by the experience.
** In ''A Hard Bargain,'' Cheerilee's off-hand comments about the "fun" her parents used to have make Trixie squirm.
** This gets actually discussed in ''Tales of Ponyville'', where Cheerilee mistakes Trixie's celibate tendencies for being a ChasteHero and [[HilarityEnsues decides to give her]] TheTalk. At which point Trixie rants that she finds sex to be gross.
* CharacterDevelopment: Before the events of ''Longest Night, Longest Day'', and for a good chunk of that story as well, Trixie really ''wanted'' to be a corrupt, scheming manipulator in the Night Court. She just wasn't very good at it. Her friendship with the other Elements of Harmony has changed her dramatically for the better over the course of several months, though ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'' reminds us that there are many nobles in Canterlot who still vividly remember her as an egotistical, politically clumsy {{Jerkass}}.
* ConspiracyTheorist: For Trixie, unless it's one of the other Elements, there is no gesture that cannot be construed as the product of the machinations of members of the Night Court in a bid to gain control of one or more of the Elements. Fortunately or unfortunately, [[ProperlyParanoid she is frequently right]].
** Also unfortunately, for all her paranoia she doesn't realize [[spoiler:just ''how'' corrupt the Night Court is ''as a whole'']].
* DeadpanSnarker
* DisappearedDad: Her mother died while Trixie was very young, but her father was an utter no-show.
* DreadfulMusician: Oh, yes. Trixie's singing is repeatedly said to be dreadful. She's tone-deaf, has a limited repertoire and even less knowledge of music, and what few songs she does know she can just about hum. But since she can't always remember all of them, she just resorts to humming the same bit over and over.
* DrinkOrder: ''Monsieur Bourbon''. Failing that, or if she's not allowed alcohol, she likes strawberry soy milk. Now if only somepony stopped buying it all before she can...
* [[EmbarrassingMiddleName Embarrassing Second Name]]: she was teased for the name "Lulamoon" as a foal due to the allusions to a song ''Skip to My Lou''.
** FirstNameBasis: ... which is why she prefers Trixie.
* FakeUltimateHero: Examined during "The Hero of Oaton", but ultimately played straight in "Foalish Misadventures" where she (with some lip service to the other Elements of Harmony) takes full credit for curing Ponyville of its enchanted, drunken stupor, failing to mention Dinky or the other foals that made it possible.
* FightsLikeANormal: Never really learned a lot of attack spells, so she in battle she mostly relies on illusions to disorient and distract her enemies while she sneaks in under invisibility to buck them in the ribs.
** [[spoiler: This is ''highly'' effective, however, as Ispelu Magikoa found out... or Canon Spike, Celestia, and Twilight, when she used her illusions to steal the Elements out from under them.]]
* TheHero: A relatively [[AntiHero flawed]] variant.
* HotForTeacher: Has had a few erotic dreams involving Princess Luna in the past, though she's none too proud of them.
** [[spoiler: ''To Cheerilee, With Love'' ends with her thinking that she might have a crush on Luna, although ultimately this is not the case.]]
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Frequently deals with stress by spending quality time with Monsieur Bourbon. Since this is [[CityOfAdventure Ponyville,]] this tends to happen a lot.
* IToldYouSo: Commissioned a song about this trope that incorporates several languages and is composed of over a dozen verses with the last one purely consisting of haughty laughter.
* InVinoVeritas: When drunk, Trixie becomes more laid-back and sociable, starts speaking in Neigh Orleans accent and [[EmbarrassingMiddleName prefers to be called Lulamoon]]. She tends to treat "Lulamoon" as a separate personality altogether, and isn't fond of the fact that her drunk self is far more likable than she is.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Towards Lyra, in thinking that she's a StarvingArtist.
* {{Invisibility}}: Trixie possesses several ways of doing this with magic and she is ''very'' good at it. A second spell will cancel out the sound her hooves make when trotting. By the Grand Galloping Gala, she's managed to perfect invisibility to get around the audio problems this creates.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Especially around foals; Trixie seems to make a special effort to be nice to them, especially Dinky Doo.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Much to the consternation of her much nicer and humbler peers.
* LargeHamTitle: The Great and Powerful Trixie, though mostly only during stage shows or when other wise trying to be overly impressive.
** During ''The Hero of Oaton'' she comes up with several more.
* LickedByTheDog: Trixie's fans and friends will argue against attacks toward her character... to a point.
* MagicalAccessory: Trixie is quite adept at making these, though it's not an instant process, frequently taking several hours.
* MagicHat: Used for traditional sleight of hand magic and acts as a magic portal to send her letters directly to Princess Luna's study, taking the role that Spike did for Twilight in canon.
* ManipulativeBitch: And not always too subtle in it.
* MasterOfIllusion: While she ''can'' learn just about any spell, she tends to favor illusion magic. This might have to do with her cutie mark talent being at least as much stage magic as "real" magic.
** ''Helping... Hands?'' makes clear just how good she is: Most illusion spells can be easily seen through, if somepony knows what they're doing or what to look for. Trixie is able to cast enough illusions in her duplication of Lyra to make it nigh-perfect, so much so that Lyra can't find any actual flaws outside of the feel of her fur (Trixie's is smoother than Lyra's).
* TheMentor: Has been teaching Dinky unicorn magic, sleight-of-hoof, and showmareship.
** EvilMentor: Dinky's picked up a few of Trixie's personality flaws as well.
* MissingStepsPlan: There are only two real concrete parts to most of Trixie's plans. The outcome where she will be handsomely rewarded for her brilliance and a beginning so elaborate and daring that it fools both her friends and herself that they won't be winging it all the way to the end.
* NoHeroToHisValet: Dinky and Pokey are her usual assistants, but even though they like her well enough, the two know better than to take what she says at face value. The same can be said for Trixie's other friends.
* NotAMorningPerson: She's not as bad as Lyra, since she has to get up for her job, but several years living in Canterlot as Luna's student mean she's not at her best in the morning.
* OtherMeAnnoysMe: "Crisis in Two Equestrias" has Trixie meet her alternate dimensional counterpart. Bickering (and a few [[YouAreFat weight-based insults]] from M!Trixie) ensue.
** She also doesn't much like "Lulamoon", the quasi-alternate personality that emerges when she gets sufficiently drunk.
* PoisonousFriend: Played with due to her less than altruistic mindset tempering the StupidGood tendencies of her friends and coming in handy against the more devious villains of the Lunaverse.
* PowerCopying: Trixie learns spells "by ear"; that is, she learns how to cast spells by watching other ponies casting spells. The downside to this is that she's not very good at learning spells from spellbooks, the normal way.
* PragmaticHero: What she eventually becomes.
* ProperlyParanoid: She lives in Ponyville, which is frequently attacked by monsters, is the subject of political schemeing from the Night Court, and has to occasionally tangle with an insane sun goddess. Needless to say, she takes steps to be this.
* ShockAndAwe: Her only major combat spell is the ability to summon lightning.
* SociopathicHero: On her worse days.
* StageMagician: Following in her grandfather's hoofsteps, though it's more of a hobby.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Occasionally, though not as often as her Maneverse counterpart, and mostly only when she's deliberately trying to be dramatic.
* TokenEvilTeammate: Compared to her teammates, a little, but usually she's just a little on the abrasive side and more willing to pull underhanded stunts.
* WeakButSkilled: Not overly powerful for having a special talent in magic, but she's creative and fluent caster and fast learner.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: In contrast to canon!Twilight, who can perform a very wide variety of spells, but not very well, Lunaverse!Trixie has a few select spells she can cast very effectively.
* YouNeedToGetLaid: What others say of her. She's squicked out by the prospect.

!!Carrot Top
!!! [[ Profile]]

[[caption-width-right:300:Just a simple carrot farmer.]]

The Element of Generosity and a carrot farmer. While hard-working and compassionate friend, her selfless and introvert nature make her a bit too generous in a business sense. As a rather struggling low-scale farmer, she's envious of the Apple clan and their success.

* AccidentalHero: Unintentionally prevents [[spoiler:Zizanie]] from escaping in ''The Grand Galloping Gala'' by opening a door.
* AlchemyIsMagic: Carrot Top knows how to make a wide variety of potions and elixirs using her knowledge of plants, everything from sticky bombs to smoke gas to even minor healing poultices.
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: She envied the success of Sweet Apple Acres, but is deeply conflicted when [[spoiler:the town turns against the Apples]] during Carrot Top Season.
* TheChick: Easily the most feminine and slowest to anger out of her friends.
* DeathGlare: Wishes she had this sometimes, up to and including having actual EyeBeams. Not only can she not really pull it off, however, but in fact most ponies don't even realize that they're being glared at by her.
** [[spoiler: Averted once (well, sans EyeBeams) - in a staring match with ''Tirek'', no less.]]
* {{Envy}}: A little, mainly towards the Apple Family's success and general ease in life. It can lead her to take stupid risks she might otherwise be too savvy to avoid.
* ExtremeDoormat
* [[FertileFeet Fertile Hooves]]: All earth ponies possess this, but it's most pronounced in Carrot Top and other ponies with farming marks.
* TheGenericGuy: Some fics, those written by [=GrassAndClouds2=] more than most, tend to emphasize how little she stands out compared to the others.
** Averted in [[spoiler: ''The Return of Tambelon'' and ''Contest of Champions'', particularly the latter where her knowledge of plants and mixing alchemical recipes make her an incredibly useful pony as TheMedic, as well as something like the team's artillery.]]
* [[GreenThumb Green Hoof]]: She knows a lot of stuff concerning plants, both tame and wild and even those of the Everfree Forest.
* ICantDance: Admits to not being a great dancer during ''Contest of Champions''.
* ItsPersonal: In ''Elements of Insanity'', she takes the fact that it's Twilight's choice for Generosity who's on a rampage personally.
* OnlySaneMan: During ''The Return of Tambelon'', she's the only one of the Element Bearers to not assume Corona is automatically a monster, and doesn't go out of her way to insult and / or antagonise her like the others.
* PerpetualPoverty: For much of the first season, due to a combination of trying to compete against the titanically powerful Apple Trust and her lack of business savvy.
* SeriousBusiness: Her one vice is taking care of her mane. So she is appalled at the idea of Trixie using a simple "all-in-one" shampoo for her own mane.
* ShrinkingViolet: Not on Canon Fluttershy-levels (Lunaverse Fluttershy takes this trope UpToEleven), but is somewhat a doormat.
* TakingAdvantageOfGenerosity: She tends to be the victim of this...
** AFriendInNeed: ... but on the other hoof, she's still always there to help anyone who's in trouble, no matter what it takes from her. And most are more than willing to [[AndroclesLion return the favor]].
* TheTeamNormal: The most "average" of the six, at least in the first season. She's not anypony's student, she doesn't have any connections to anyone important, she's no stronger than anyone else or particularly special skills, and has no chequered past. She's just a carrot farmer.
* UnknownRival: She's not even a blip on the Apple Trust's radar...
** [[spoiler: Until ''The Carrot Top Season'', after which Applejack acknowledges her as a WorthyOpponent. She was even given a chance to [[WeCanRuleTogether join the Trust]].]]
* {{Workaholic}}: Not to the same extent as Ditzy Doo, but Carrot Top has a difficult time just sitting still and doing nothing.

!!! [[ Profile]]

[[caption-width-right:300:Bringing in joy and laughter, both in classroom and life.]]

The optimistic, knowledgeable and responsible school teacher for Ponyville and the Element of Laughter. Needs to get out more. Foalhood friend of Lyra; sister of Berry Punch.

* AntiHero: On occasion, Cheerilee is more than willing to bend, break, or just flat-out ignore rules she doesn't like, causing conflict between her, the other Elements, and their allies.
* BerserkButton:
** Messing with education, for one. She's the first of the Bearers to take a dislike for Vicereine Puissance because the mare had been manipulating things in her province to make standardised testing easier. During their visit to Naqah, she's immediately furious when she hears Grev objected to the sultan's attempts to reform education.
** Don't harm foals, or their chances for the future. When Ditzy lies about Manehattan to stop Dinky applying for a prestigious school, Cheerilee has to be restrained by Trixie from verbally tearing her friend a new one.
** Insulting her sister, Berry.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Slow to anger, but when she does, even [[TheBigGuy Raindrops]] is afraid of getting in her way.
* BiTheWay: Was once accidentally married to a female roommate, and cheated on her with a stallion, so she's most likely bisexual. She's also been in relationships with both Big Mac and Rarity. [[spoiler:As well as a one-time with Notary (they were drunk, and it was ''before'' she became Greengrass's secretary).]]
** Not to mention a threesome in her past, according to ''Hero of Oaton'' and ''Tales of Ponyville''.
* CoolTeacher
** BadassTeacher
* [[CrazyCatLady Crazy Fish Lady]]: According to the ''Hero of Oaton'', Cheerilee has so many fish that she's long since run out of names and had to switch over to an alpha-numeric system of identification.
** [[KindheartedCatLover Kindhearted Fish Lover]]: She's not really obsessed with her fish to the point total social isolation, but she does seem to be worried about being perceived as such by others.
* DidYouJustFlipOffCthulhu: Earns the Element of Laughter by making sex jokes about Corona.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Heavily vandalizes her own school due to the establishment mandating more inservice days. In her defense, she was magically intoxicated, as were the faculty and PTA members that were cheering her on.
* FormerTeenRebel: ''Tales of Ponyville'' reveals that when she had a ''very'' interesting youth.
** [[HiddenDepths And she picked up lots of useful skills and met many interesting persons]] back in those days.
--> '''Trixie:''' Like lock-picking?
--> '''Cheerilee:''' [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And embroidery.]]
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter:
** ''Oaton'' makes a point of noting she's not very good at reading ponies. Later on, in ''Up and Automaton'', she supports an old friend who is a complete ''moron''.
** During ''Tales of Ponyville'', she mistakenly takes a snarky comment of [=BonBon=]'s at face value, and believes Trixie doesn't know about sex. When she gets to Trixie's residence, she hears her talking about something with Raindrops, and comes to the conclusion Raindrops was trying to take advantage of her. Much embarrassment follows.
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Says this repeatedly after forcing Yangin into helping the Bearers in ''Chasing Smoke''. Ditzy and Raindrops don't particularly agree.
* TheLeader: Tended to take this role, usually being the one to come up with plans of action.
* LiesToChildren: Not usually, but during ''Tales of Ponyville'', when she gives the "that's how everypony looked" explanation on her (''very'') 80s-esque appearance in an old photo, she leaves out the fact that "everypony" actually means a very select few.
* MarriedToTheJob: But wouldn't mind a life outside it.
* NonGivingUpSchoolGuy: Do not try to skip school. Scootaloo tried it once, and Cheerilee found out. According to Scoots, she chased the filly "halfway to Cloudsdale" before catching her.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: ''Scootalong to the Cheer'' not only revealed her relation to Berry Punch, but also what her own full name is: Black''cherry Lee'' Punch.
* [[TheSmartGuy The Smart Mare]]
* {{Troll}}: Flirts with Corona to mess with her. It's surprisingly effective.
* YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry: Seriously, she's ''terrifying''.

!!Ditzy Doo
!!! [[ Profile]]

[[caption-width-right:300:Our most popular background pony, now a main character.]]

The Element of Kindness and a ever hard-working mail mare in Ponyville's post office, who knows everypony and wants everypony to get along. Single mother and would fly to the end of the universe for her dear daughter, Dinky Doo.

* AbsurdlyYouthfulMother: She's often mistaken for being Dinky's older sister, and several ponies express surprise that she's a mom.
* AlmightyJanitor: Isn't a post master, but knows every detail in the job well enough to claim the office her own "Castle Doo".
* {{Claustrophobia}}: Not known to do well in enclosed spaces; this causes problems when having to rescue Trixie in ''Through the Fire and Flames''.
* EducationMama: The idea of Dinky getting hurt is one thing; the idea of Dinky settling for less because Mommy is a dimwit worried about nothing gets to be quite another.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Whether it's her Element or just her general niceness, normal animals can't bring themselves to harm Ditzy.
* GoodIsNotSoft: She's the Element of Kindness, but push her too hard and you'll find out that Kindness is ''not'' the same thing as weakness.
* [[GoodParents Good Parent]]: "Fact: Dinky Doo has the best mother in the world, and Dinky Doo is fully aware of this."
* HeroicSelfDeprecation: Was reluctant to accept the Element of Kindness at first [[spoiler: because of her [[MyGreatestFailure teenage affair]] with Sparkler's (and Dinky's) father, which led to a pregnancy and the divorce of Sparkler's parents.]]
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Sometimes she can be a bit too trusting. During the Contest of Champions, a griffon tries slashing at her with a knife covered in a substance that would have done some ''very'' nasty things if it had made contact, while aiming for her eyes. Ditzy just assumes there was a misunderstanding.
* TheKlutz: suffers from [[FishEyes strabismus]], which makes her coordinating and flying difficult.
* MamaBear: Don't even think of hurting her daughter. Otherwise you might just end up being dropped from the sky.
* MyBelovedSmother: In "Exam Jitters", she shows signs of becoming overly protective when an accident she couldn't possibly have foreseen [[AdultFear leaves her so worried about protecting Dinky]] that she lies her ass off about how horrible Manehattan is when Dinky gets the chance to attend an elite school. Cheerilee is not ecstatic.
* NotSoDifferent: The real reason she finds it difficult to forgive Corona for kidnapping Dinky. It took her [[SelectiveObliviousness the longest time to admit it]] but what scares her most about Celestia is that an alicorn with a MamaBear complex who sees all ponies as her children has [[KnightTemplarParent more ability to run riot]] than a mere letter carrier.
* PerpetualPoverty: Between the relatively low salary from her postal work, the various expenses associated with being a single parent, and her desire to build up some savings for Dinky, Ditzy has to be pretty careful with her money.
* PhotographicMemory: Not quite, but Ditzy almost never forgets anything.
* ShipTease: Some minor ones with Big Mac. Gets more prominent in ''For a Few Bits More''.
* TeamMom
* TookALevelInBadass: Undertakes some combat training in ''Contest Of Champions'', emphasizing her special talent of sensing wind currents.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Muffins.
* TurnTheOtherCheek: She rarely gets angry even if somepony acts like they'd deserve it, instead treating such occasions with motherly patience. Push her hard enough, though...
* {{Workaholic}}: She works long, somewhat stressful days, capable and willing to do most tasks in the office... due to the low salary and family to support.

!!Lyra Heartstrings
!!! [[ Profile]]

[[caption-width-right:300:A musical prodigy...]]

The Element of Loyalty, Lyra is a laid-back, easygoing musician and (suitably) utterly devoted friend. In the beginning of the story, she returned to her home town Ponyville with Trixie after studying three years in Canterlot, [[LongDistanceRelationship reuniting with her longtime marefriend Bon Bon]].

* BrilliantButLazy: While patient and thorough in what she does, she can be also carefree and has some problems with deadlines. She also seems to be stronger than Trixie in terms of raw magic power.
* CasualKink: It's mentioned several times that she and Bon Bon have occasionally done things to "spice up" their love life.
* CatapultNightmare: ''Helping... Hands?'' mentions it happens a lot with her, usually ending with her falling out of bed, often on her horn (unicorn horns being pretty sensitive).
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Bon Bon.
* GenkiGirl: She is frequently excited and energetic. That her diet is so sugary probably has a hand in the matter.
* GoodPeopleHaveGoodSex: Unfortunately for anyone who lives near them, Lyra and Bon Bon are ''very'' loud, and ''very'' enthusiastic.
* [[HasTwoMommies Has Two Daddies]]: As shown in ''Dinner with the Folks''.
* LethalChef: The reason why Bon Bon cooks for both of them.
* LightEmUp: Manages to let off a blast of light in ''The Glass Kingdom'' bright enough to blind an entire room of secret police. Cue grumbling from Trixie on how Lyra managed to be brighter than her.
* MagicMusic:
** She's a professional musician, and has studied magic in Luna's school for Gifted Unicorns.
** ''Secret of Andalantis'' also mentions spellsongs, aka. ''literal magic music'', as her specialty in spellcasting.
* [[ManChild Mare Child]]: She can act incredibly childish for her age, refusing to eat anything other than candy, or going along with Bon Bon's plan to drop a bucket of water on an already rain-soaked Cheerille on threat of not getting brownies.
* NoSell: Lyra proves immune to the sirens' singing, on account of realising one of them is off-key.
* NotAMorningPerson: She tends to sleep through the mornings, so she's not so good with them. HilarityEnsues on more than one occasion where she's forced to get up out of her comfort zone.
* PowerOfTrust: she inspires Octavia to overpower Blueblood's mercenaries, even though she's a mile away. Octavia knows that Lyra would have faith in her, and that's all she needs.
* TheReliableOne: As the element suggests, she's more or less everypony's friend.
* SweetTooth: ''Ice Hearts'' claims she tends to eat mostly ice cream.
* TakingTheBullet: She takes one for Cheerilee in ''Longest Night, Longest Day''. Luckily, it proves her to be the Element of Loyalty, and she's fine.
* WaitingForABreak: Implied, when Trixie tends to think her as a StarvingArtist (especially in earlier stories) and invokes this trope to get her to do favors. Eventually subverted as Lyra ''does'' make a living with her music.

!!![[ Profile]]

[[caption-width-right:300:You do '''not''' want to make her angry.]]

The Element of Honesty, Raindrops can come across as stable and slightly dull. However, underneath the surface she's got a great deal of anger issues just ready to explode. She's a member of Ponyville's weather patrol, and takes her job very seriously, though she also enjoys it thoroughly.
* BeYourself: How her Element most often shows itself with her. Raindrops isn't incapable of lying, though she's not good at it. Rather, Honesty to her means not hiding who and what you really are (note that this is different from not "controlling" it), and always doing what you know is right, ''because'' it's right.
* BerserkButton: {{Inverted}}. Rain is pretty much the only thing that lets her ''stop'' being angry.
* [[TheBigGuy The Big Mare]]
* BigSisterInstinct: Threatening Snails is a good way to get her truly pissed off at you.
* BruiserWithASoftCenter: She is a closet romantic, big time.
** She also doesn't exactly ''like'' her anger issues and wishes that she could live without them.
* BrutalHonesty: How her nature as the Element of Honesty often presents itself.
* DeadpanSnarker: Easily the equal of Trixie in this regard.
* {{Determinator}}
* TheFirstCutIsTheDeepest: [[spoiler: Kindle's quasi-betrayal hurt her worse than just about anything else we've seen.]]
* HairTriggerTemper: Pretty much anything gets her angry, including her parents' various quirks, or even her little brother's fondness for bugs. She constantly has to try and repress it as best she can. The non-canon story ''In the Heat of the Moment'' revealed that she has a clearing in Whitetail Wood where she sometimes goes to just vent all her frustration by running laps and breaking stones (also useful when her heat comes up); this was adapted into canon by the story ''Hero of Oaton''.
* HappyRain: She loves playing in the rain, to the point of singing about it while splashing around in puddles and mud.
* HiddenDepths: On the surface, Raindrops seems to be a dour or angry pony all the time who mostly wants to just do her job and occasionally yell at things - or break them. However, ''Tales of Ponyville'', ''Of Hearts and Hooves'', and various other stories have greatly expanded her character. She cares deeply about her family, especially her brother; hates her anger issues and is always looking for ways to control them; loves rain and trashy romance stories; and has a surprisingly fragile psyche.
* IJustWantToBeNormal: During "Voice of the Sun", she declares how she wishes she'd never become an Element Bearer, or that she was so strong and angry.
* MightyGlacier: Slow and clumsy for a pegasus, but stronger than many earth ponies - she can break rocks with her bare hooves.
* NeverLiveItDown: In-universe. The one time she really lost it and assaulted somepony - a classmate at Summer Flight Camp - led to broken bones and hospitalization. The foal she assaulted still walks with a limp and still has a restraining order on her. She had to live with the reputation until her family moved away from Cloudsdale, but she still regrets it.
* SerialKillerKiller: Sorely tempted to become this in ''Just Us Little Ponies''. [[spoiler: Fortunately, Cheerilee, Max, and Duty talk her down.]]
* ShipperOnDeck: When she sees Pinkie Pie and Blueblood together, she ''instantly'' comes up with a trashy romance plot involving the two of them and basically orders them to go to a certain spot where [[BlatantLies the clouds will be extra romantic, purely by coincidence]]. When they kiss, a squeal can be heard from said clouds.
* SuppressedRage: Due to what happened in the past, she does her best to control her temper.
* TheStoic: But she [[NotSoStoic has]] [[SuppressedRage her]] [[RageBreakingPoint limits]].

[[folder:Ponyville: Friends, Family, and Associates of the Lunaverse Six]]
%%%Names should be sorted alphabetically.

!!Amethyst Star, "Sparkler"
!!!Unicorn. Jeweler. Prefers the nickname "Sparkler" amongst those she likes. Dinky's half-sister on their father's side.
* BrokenBird: victim in her parents' messy divorce
* FireForgedFriends: [[spoiler: In a sense, with Dinky Doo, her half-sister. The two are both innocent victims of a scandal involving their parents, and the shared pain - and opening up to each other - seems to have brought them closer together]]
* FriendlyAddressPrivileges: Only her friends call her Sparkler. [[spoiler: Which works as a sign of warming terms between her and Ditzy, when Ditzy calls her that. It's still on a bit uncomfortable territory, however.]]
* InSeriesNickname
* WeUsedToBeFriends: She and Trixie used to hang out back in Canterlot. Trixie at least considered her a friend.

!!Berry Punch
!!!Earth pony, Cheerilee's sister. Owns a soda shop and bar. Is also something of a social alcoholic.
* TheAlcoholic: A mild example. She's fine normally, but she tends to lose control at parties.
* TheMentor: To Carrot Top, for the farm competition. As she explains, Carrot Top can farm, but Berry Punch knows how to put dishes together.
* PopularityPower: Applejack paid bitterly for [[spoiler: publicly insulting Berry's profession]], as Berry is the town's most popular party animal right along Pinkie.

!!Bon Bon
!!!Earth pony. A confectioner and Lyra's marefriend.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: While usually nice pony, she can be pretty temperamental when stressed enough. She's also rather protective of Lyra. [[spoiler: "''Helping... Hands?''" turns out to be a ''[[SanitySlippage very]]'' [[SanitySlippage bad day for her]].]]
* BreakTheCutie: She was kidnapped by Corona, along with several others. It left her completely terrified of Celestia in any way shape or form.
* CasualKink: She and Lyra occasionally do things to "spice up" their already vigorous love-life. [[spoiler:Lyra draws the line at being turned back into a human for experimentation.]]
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Known each other since childhood, hooked up as teenagers.
* InsaneTrollLogic: When making brownies, she demands brown eggs, despite Lyra and the farmer she gets the eggs from pointing out it doesn't make any difference.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Lyra neglected to mention the Bearer's temporary alliance with Corona at Tambelon. As a result, Bon Bon has several panic attacks on seeing Corona, since she thinks the mare is still the murderously angry mare she was when she got out of the sun.
* {{Muggle}}: Bon Bon is an ordinary confectioner, and is actually more than a little terrified at the thought of Lyra going out to fight evil, especially since she's afraid one day Lyra might not come back.
* SingleTargetSexuality: WordOfGod states Bon Bon is Lyrasexual and wouldn't care about what gender she is.
** Pinkie, however, claims that [[IfItsYouItsOkay despite her being Lyrasexual, she still thinks Big Macintosh is hot.]]
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Out-of-universe. Bon Bon's name was spelled "[=BonBon=]" throughout early Lunaverse stories, while later ones use "Bon Bon" instead (WordOfGod is that RainbowDoubleDash simply didn't like how spellcheck tends to highlight the first "bon" in "Bon Bon", but he got over it). Some stories instead use "Bonbon" or "Bon-Bon".
** The name of her candy store is also constantly changing: The Confectionarium or Bon Bon's Bon Bons are both used.

!!Dinky Doo
!!!Unicorn, Ditzy Doo's daughter. School-age filly who is wise for her years, but also still fundamentally a kid. Works at Fluttershy's on weekends.
* CheerfulChild
* TheCutie
** CuteWitch: [[spoiler: Friendship is Magic, so her mark in making friends also lets her cast just about any kind of spell.]]
* FutureBadass: In the questionably canon story, "I'll See You Soon". [[spoiler:She's been mentored by both Trixie and Twilight and seems to have the raw power of Twilight coupled with the innate understanding of magic possessed by Trixie, as evidenced by her casually traveling back in time to ask for ''marriage advice.'' She's also apparently close friends with Princess Celestia. No, you read that right.]]
* GreenEyedMonster: She ''doesn't'' like sharing Trixie's attention. Trixie notices, and is worried she might be a bad influence on Dinky.
* KidSidekick: Trixie's little assistant in her stage magic shows.
* LargeHamTitle: Has gone by "The Great And Powerful Dinky" a few times.
* TheLeader: Type II[=/=]IV hybrid among the "Foal 6" in ''Foalish Misadventures'', charismatic enough to get the aid of children who otherwise wouldn't have anything to do with one another, and levelheaded enough to identify the problem and keep them on task.
* MagneticHero: Able to befriend virtually everyone she meets. [[spoiler: She even gets a cutie mark in making friends]].
* ThePowerOfFriendship: Played for laughs during "Foalish Misadventures" as every time she tries to evoke this trope, the other foals make mention of certain incidents where they worked together to accomplish things and failed anyway. She changes her tune a bit and says that friendship can make almost anything possible.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: Dinky's no genius, but she's really mature for her age.

!!!Pegasus. Animal caretaker, extreme introvert, but friends with Ditzy, Dinky, and Rainbow Dash. Real name Fluttering Posey.
* BrokenBird: Just as in the Mane Six's world, Flight School was a never-ending source of torment and misery for the poor dear. Based on her terror that her CrashIntoHello with Thunderlane will lead to another round of mockery despite his probably thinking that she's an unusually shy tourist, she still bears the scars.
** Whatever happened to her when she tried to fill in for her aunt in the Night Court left her so broken that even years later just hearing the words "Night Court" sends her into a panic attack.
* CharacterDevelopment: [[spoiler:Eventually grows more comfortable around Carrot Top after CT gives her the antidote for Poison Joke. Later, in ''Tales of Ponyville'', she not only allows herself to be taken out to the spa, but starts to develop a friendship with Rarity without the aid of one of her existing friends. And in Season 2 in ''A Concert For Ponyville'' gathers the courage to perform in the concert with her birds and Octavia.]]
* FriendToAllLivingThings[=/=]NiceGuy: Implied in ''Return of Tambelon'' to be just as kind as her canon counterpart.
* TheMentor: It's implied in ''Return of Tambelon'' that she helped teach Ditzy Doo how to be kind.
* NoodleIncident: The details of exactly what happened when she served as her aunt's Night Court proxy for a summer are still vague, but it's implied that that's what made her the ShrinkingViolet she is now. Even years later just hearing the words "Night Court" sends her into a panic attack.
* SecretlyWealthy: Daughter of a rich and influential industrialist family, who chose to live quietly on ground as a animal caretaker. Her parents support her financially.
* ShrinkingViolet: UpToEleven. RDD designed her "basically the same, but without Flutterbitch", thus lacking all of her [[HiddenDepths canon assertiveness]]. She's now practically devoid of all social interaction except Ditzy, Dinky and Rainbow Dash.

!!Grinding Gears
!!!Earth pony inventor, friends with Cheerilee. Not very bright ''at all''.

* DitzyGenius: Grinding Gears is a genius. He is also ludicrously naïve, and clueless, believing Trixie's objections (that golems were ''always'' dangerous and destructive) might have been because he was an earth pony... and didn't realise why she might've taken offense at that. He also gives the map to his assistant... and forgets where they were supposed to meet up.
* ExactWords: Told Cheerilee he wasn't dating anyone when they first met.
* TooDumbToLive: Holy mother of... it might take a list.
** First, he comes up with a design for an improved model of golem, brushing off all those other "incidents" as the result of negligence. He then proceeds not to make sure the new design will ''avoid'' anything similar.
** During the design process, at no point does he submit the designs for inspection by competent, qualified officials.
** He designs it to be able to absorb ambient magic, to speed up recharging time.
** While designing it, he gets frustrated with a difficult design component, unaware golems take on the emotions of those designing them.
** And to cap it off, rather than having it controlled by a scroll or a painted on word, he carves it into the design, meaning it can't be easily removed. And what word is it? "Live", which the golem takes as an immediate excuse to, yup, go on a violent rampage.

!!Pokey Pierce
!!!Unicorn. Trixie's secretary/assistant. He shall pierce the Heavens with his horn!
* {{Determinator}}: His special talent is [[AllThereInTheManual noted]] to be perseverance.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: Particularly proud of his abnormally long and sharp horn, and spends a lot of time polishing it.
* HypercompetentSidekick / CrazyPrepared: He's very good at his job, and always carry copies of every legal form from the disaster relief book. With Corona on the loose, Trixie in charge, and Ponyville being... Ponyville, they get a lot of use.
* IncrediblyLamePun: He's always willing to take a ''stab'' at one.
* LargeHam: When not snarking or throwing puns, he tends to quote [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann Kamina]]. You can guess the rest.
* MundaneMadeAwesome: His special unicorn magic is a horn sharpening spell, which helps him to pierce through things. Thus far he's used it to [[ShootOutTheLock open a locked door]]. [[spoiler: PlayedForLaughs when he only [[AntiClimax ends up]] [[EpicFail stuck himself]].]]
* ServileSnarker: Part of his resumé when taking a job working under [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold Trixie]].
--> '''Pokey''': If you become too much, I’ll be ready to bring you back down with a … [[IncrediblyLamePun piercing remark]].
* ShoutOut: If not obvious yet, Pokey's characteristics have many links to Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann, with determination, quoting and the horn as an allusion to a drill.

!!!Unicorn. Raindrop's little brother. Idolizes Trixie due to her magic shows.
* {{Adorkable}}: The way he looks up to his big sister in ''Griffin Over The Line'' is just precious.
* BugCatching: His primary hobby.
* FriendToBugs: To astounding levels. And anything small and wriggly, really. At one point, he even managed to charm a tarantula.
* GeniusDitz: While appearing kinda daft, Snails has shown a surprising knowledge of botany and other wildlife. Justified as he spends a lot time in the woods, and Raindrops has made sure he knows about dangerous and/or poisonous plants and animals.
* {{Gonk}}
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: In a farming community like Ponyville, Snail's ability to communicate and negotiate with insects makes him worth his weight in silver bits.
* HeroWorshipper
* HotForTeacher: Openly admits to finding Trixie hot, though that was before she tutored him.
* NightmareFetishist: He'd love to flood his whole home with bugs and he dreams of making them even bigger.

!!!Earth pony, and Bon Bon's sister. Has a speech impediment.

[[folder:Ponyville: Other Adults]]
%%%Names should be sorted alphabetically. Entries with multiple names should be sorted by the first name of the group, alphabetically. E.g., "Daisy, Lily, and Rose' should be sorted under 'Daisy.'

!!!Pegasus, one of Raindrops' coworkers

!!!Earth pony. Local head of the Apple Trust corporation. Deeply concerned about the well-being of her enterprise.
* BerserkButton: Harming a member of her family, even if it's her bigger brother.
* CoolBigSis: Tries to be one for Applebloom. [[spoiler: It doesn't always work out so well, as seen in ''Carrot Top Season''.]]
* CrazyPrepared: She insists on setting up traps for timberwolves, even thought there's no recorded instance of a timberwolf attack on Ponyville in living memory. And then, during "Carrot Top Season"...
* FunetikAksent: Exactly how phonetic depends on who's writing. [=GrassAndClouds2=] tends to write her pronounciation of "me" as "ma" on several occasions.
* InTheBlood: It's implied in "Carrot Top Season" that Applejack's MoralMyopia tendencies aren't unique to her - it appears that many other members of the Apple Trust have them as well.
* LonelyAtTheTop: her relentless work for securing the Trust's productivity has left her isolated from the community, who view her greedy and selfish.
* MoralMyopia. Honestly seems to believe that Sweet Apple Acres is vital to the town's future. This leads her to believe that anyone who wants to compete with her wants ponies to starve to death.
** SkewedPriorities: The reason that that's nuts is because it makes her look like an elephant screaming about the peril that a mouse represents.
** Ironically, this has infected other members of the Trust as well, as none of the other Trust farms will stop the competition to help her search for her sister.
* ProperlyParanoid: After Zecora's curse ruins several of Ponyville's farms, Applejack's preparations do ensure that Ponyville's citizens will have enough to eat until they can rebuild.
* ShroudedInMyth: The reason that she cannot see that is that she's based her whole life on a family legend on how the Apples saved Equestria centuries ago. The legend's accuracy is debatable; its effect of her isn't.
** {{Irony}}: According to the real legend (at least as far as Granny Smith claims), Equestria was saved by the farms banding together and helping each other out. Which is exactly what Carrot Top and the other small farms are doing now, and what Applejack is so opposed to.
* ThickerThanWater
* TookALevelInKindness: She begins mellowing out considerably following "Carrot Top Season".

!!Banana Split
!!!Earth pony farmer

!!Big Macintosh
!!! Earth pony, Applejack's big brother. A strong, stoic stallion of few words and a good heart.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: Pinkie claims that even the [[SingleTargetSexuality Lyrasexual]] Bon Bon thinks he's hot.
* GentleGiant: Is pointed by Applejack to be too soft to be the head of the Trust.
* GotMeDoingIt: Exasperated and weirded out though he is by Applejack's treatment of Bloomberg, he finds himself calling the tree by name eventually.
* HiddenDepths: He has a bounty hunter license. And he doesn't have it just for bragging rights.
** He also speaks Caballerian ([[FantasyCounterpartCulture i.e. Spanish]]).
* RealMenWearPink: He has a Smarty Pants doll, which Applejack teases him about.
* ShipTease: Has had a few with Dame Ditzy.
* TheyFightCrime: With [[TheLancer Caramel]].
* TheQuietOne
* The WorfEffect: Suffers this in ''Up and Automaton''.

!!!Pegasus. Makes perfume and other scented products, runs a shop in town.

!!Blue Skies
!!!Pegasus, one of Raindrops' coworkers

!!Boxxy Brown
!!!Earth pony farmer. One of the more grouchy ones.

* TheAlcoholic: Applejack mentions he gets drunk and starts fights a lot.

!!!Earth Pony and Big Macintosh's friend who works in Sweet Apple Acres.
* TheKlutz: [[ObfuscatingStupidity acts the role]] in ''A Hard Bargain'' [[spoiler: to get information of Parley's suspicious-looking thugs]].
* {{TheLancer}}/{{Sidekick}}: in his and Bic Mac's AdventureDuo.

!!Carrot Cake and Cup Cake
!!!Earth ponies. Married couple who own a bakery and employ Pinkie Pie.
* MamaBear[=/=]PapaWolf: Are this for Pinkie. They threaten to do very unkind things to Blueblood if he leads her astray.

!!Cloud Kicker
!!!Pegasus, nominal assistant weather manager, second to Rainbow Dash. Does not take pressure well.

* ExtremeDoormat: According to ''Longest Night, Longest Day'', she usually just agrees with whatever Rainbow Dash says.
* NervousWreck: Described as being particularly nervous a lot.
* NumberTwo

!!!Earth pony. Surfer. Which makes one question why he's in Ponyville, as the entire province it's in is land-locked.
* SurferDude
* TotallyRadical

!!Daisy, Lily, and Rose (the flower trio)
!!! Three melodramatic earth pony friends who run a flower business together.
* ComicalOverreacting
* [[DramaQueen Drama Queens]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: They're so close together that many mistakenly think they are sisters.
* [[ThoseTwoGuys Those Three Mares]]

!!!Pegasus. Her special talent is napping.
* {{Sleepyhead}}: It's her schtick.
* TheDitz

!!Filthy Rich
!!!Earth pony, Diamond Tiara's father. Rich business pony.

!! Granny Smith.
!!!Earth Pony. Grandmother of Applejack, Big Macintosh and Apple Bloom.
* CoolOldLady
* InsubstantialIngredients: Knows how to extract a smile to put in a potion.
* IsThatWhatHeToldYou: She tells Carrot Top how the Apples really 'saved' the kingdom. Instead of Applejack's version of how the Apples saved the country due to overwhelming strength, the Apple Trust started out as a small farm that had gotten its neighbors to band together in a time of crisis.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: Implied. In the above-mentioned scene Carrot Top also wonders that Granny Smith told the story as if she had been there herself... hundreds of years ago. Downplayed mildly in that she actually looks like an old mare.

!!Green Grape
!!!Earth pony mare. Unofficial head of the non-Apple Trust farmers

* BrutalHonesty: She likes Carrot Top, and supports her, but states she shouldn't have entered a competition and asked for help if she wasn't sure she would win.
* TheLeader: Green Grape's voice counts more than any other farmer in a debate. Also, a glance from her can get everyone else to hush up.

!!Heavy Roller
!!!Earth pony, father of Scootaloo. Owner and proprietor of the local Wagon Repair shop.

!!Ivory Scroll
!!!Earth pony. Mayor of Ponyville.
* HiddenDepths: Was once a boxer.

!!Lotso Lots
!!!Ponyville's retail agent

!!Marching Order
!!!Pegasus. Former member of the Royal Guard, he was injured in a skirmish with griffins. His special talent is following orders to the letter.
* LiteralMinded
* NoIndoorVoice

!!Pinkie Pie
!!!Earth pony. Hyperactive party-loving pony who's always ready to throw another party. And another. And another. And...
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: Trixie calls her out on her not stopping to do things like finding out what ponies really like or telling them what's going on before bounding off on a sugar-fueled tangent.
* DropTheHammer: Bashes a Cragodile with a Sledgehammer when it threatens Gummy.
* GenkiGirl: Duh.
* ImprovisedWeapon: Makes up a slingshot out of party supplies, and a rubber chicken, to fight off timberwolves.
* InsanityImmunity: ''Truth is a scourge'' has no noticeable effect on her.
* MoralityPet: Prince Blueblood actually refers to her as his conscience once they get together.
* RealityWarper: Still seems to possess most of her Pinkie powers, despite not being an Element.
* RealityEnsues: Since she's not the Element of Laughter in this continuity, and often forgets to take other ponies' wants into account, her behavior tends to come across as bothersome rather than delightful.
* ShipTease: with Prince Blueblood, after the Grand Galloping Gala. It's even inspired a couple romance stories.

!!Rainbow Dash
!!!Pegasus. Weather manager of Ponyville and slacker extraordinaire. Friend of Fluttershy's, constant headache for Raindrops.
* BrilliantButLazy: Excellent weather mare, but doesn't seem to take her job too seriously.
** [[spoiler:Deconstructed in ''Carrot Top Over The Line'', where it's found out that she was put in the weather manager's position by Flutteshy's father, and doesn't feel she even deserves the job.]]
* TheCaretaker: For Fluttershy, as her oldest friend [[spoiler: and under the orders of her father, Thunderous Posey]].
** [[spoiler:AnOfferYouCantRefuse: Posey also made sure to point out that if Rainbow wouldn't take the job, he would force her mother to do it.]]
* JerkAss: Picture if Rainbow Dash had absolutely no one to reign her in or call her out, like she had in canon.
** JerkassWoobie: [[spoiler: She's only there in Ponyville and able to do what she does because Fluttershy's father is basically forcing her to stay there and take care of Fluttershy. So yes, she does leave Ponyville hanging... often... but she has good reasons for it. Furthermore, because the position was given to her, she doesn't feel she deserves the position anyway, which makes her feel depressed.]]
* ScrewTheRulesIHaveConnections: Diagnosed as a cause of her issues in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala''.
--> '''Raindrops:''' "That buck-all attitude is half the problem with the weather captain we’ve got back in Ponyville. She’s got connections in Cloudsdale, she knows she won’t ever be fired… so it means she can goof off and be lazy whenever she wants."
** It also works the other way round. Since she got her position via Thunderous Posey's interference instead of through her own skills, she doesn't believe she's actually able to do her job, and hence never even tries.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Abuses her weather manager position in ''Griffin Over The Line''.
** In ''Tales of Ponyville'', she sees no problem with ruining everypony's day with lots of unscheduled rain if it means Fluttershy can go to the spa without having to deal with passersby.

!!!Unicorn. Fashion designer. Very generous, but potentially hiding a manipulative nature.
* BiTheWay: Still gushes over Blueblood, but dated Cheerilee briefly.
* CutenessProximity: Upon meeting Fluttershy for the first time, she immediately starts gushing over her and making plans to have her model... without getting her consent, or noticing how uncomfortable she's making the shy pegasus.
* GreenEyedMonster: At times shows shades of this over Pinkie being in a relationship with Blueblood.
* [[LesbianVampire Lesbian Vampony]]: Becomes this in the non canon Costumes fic where a magical mishap turns everypony into their costumes and she winds up biting Trixie.
* TakingAdvantageOfGenerosity: Played with: while she can still be quite generous herself, she isn't afraid to invert this to make others perform certain favors for her...

!!Red Onion
!!!Earth pony. Farmer.

* SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids: When Carrot Top states she hopes to win a competition based on skill, rather than who she is, Red Onion just laughs.

!!Red Splasher
!!!Pegasus. Fire chief of Ponyville. He's an older professional firepony who leads a crew of volunteers.

!!Silver Script
!!!Pegasus. Post Master for Ponyville (and therefore Ditzy Doo's boss).
* BadassBystander
* BenevolentBoss
* [[AFatherToHisMen A Father To His Employees]]: And ready to [[PapaWolf love and tolerate the shit out of anypony who threatens his employees.]]
* TheNicknamer: He calls his baseball bat "Love & Tolerance" and his sledge hammer "Gentle Persuasion".

!!!Pegasus, one of Raindrops' coworkers

!!Thunder Lane
!!!Pegasus, weather pony, had a fling with Carrot Top, now friend

!!Twilight Sparkle
!!!Unicorn. Magical prodigy of immense power and knowledge. No social skills to speak of (but she is starting to get better). Formerly wanted by the law of Equestria for wrecking the town and currently serving a term of community service as the town's librarian. Shining Armor's little sister.
* AccentuateTheNegative: When trying to explain to Spike why Trixie and the rest of the Luna Six aren't worthy bearers of the Elements, Twilight lists all of their flaws while blanking out on any sort of positive traits they might have.
* AccidentalPublicConfession: In her shock at the climatic events of ''Boast Busted'', she blurts out that she [[spoiler:summoned the Ursa Minor to Ponyville just to get revenge on Trixie]] in front of everypony present. Public opinion promptly turns against her.
* AdaptationalVillainy: The whole Lunaverse basically started with the switch in roles of Trixie and Twilight.
** AntiVillain: Despite the antagonistic role, she's essentially a well-meaning pony who's just misguided by her mechanical worldview and inability to see the other side of the coin.
* TheAtoner: After ''Crisis on two Equestrias''.
* BigBrotherWorship: Her respect for Shining Armor is not only why she selected [[SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute Silverstar]] as her 'superior' element of Harmony, it's why she rejected the idea that some lazy musician could possibly be the Element of Loyalty when someone like BBBFF would be a much better fit.
* BreakTheHaughty: Her time in the Mane Six's world makes her realize that it could just be that Trixie just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
* BrokenAce: Probably the strongest unicorn sorceress in whole Equestria. Is also [[SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining socially inept and has no life outside studying]], and more or less cares only about learning even more magic.
* BrokenPedestal: Was actually looking forward to meeting the bearer of the Element of Magic... until she actually met Trixie.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Played with. [[spoiler: when Twilight finally comes to live in Ponyville, she's convinced everypony there will hate her. Turns out that Ponyville gets attacked by monsters so much, though, that nopony really cares all that much, and the fact that she's actually come back to try and make amends actually puts her a leg-up over some of the other things Ponyville's had to deal with]]
* [[CantHoldHisLiquor Can't Hold Her Liquor]]: During her official "Welcome to Ponyville" party, Twilight baffled Berry Punch by getting stinko on kiddie cocktails.
* DramaticallyMissingThePoint: Her stated reason for hating Trixie is that the charlatan and her band of thugs failed to do what Luna "clearly" intended them to and banish Corona back into the Sun. Once she does the "right" thing, she's quite confident that Luna will reward her. (To be fair, she's like most Equestrians in that she hasn't the blindest idea that Luna wants to cure Corona of her madness; she just has more ability to make a mess of things trying to save the world.)
* FailedASpotCheck: Without friends to calm her down or ground her in reality, she tends to miss the obvious when it's staring her right in the muzzle.
* FatalFlaw: Cannot -- '''will not''' admit [[ThePerfectionist she could ever be wrong]] about anything, for to acknowledge ''one'' [[FelonyMisdemeanor mistake would open up the potential]] of ''others''. She eventually admits it though.
* FriendlessBackground: This is Twilight if she never went to Ponyville. A socially awkward shut in who never learned the magic of friendship and spent her whole life in the pursuit of knowledge, without Spike to serve as a grounding element.
* IgnoredEpiphany: During ''Chance Encounter'', she allows as how perhaps she could have handled her meeting with Trixie better for a second or two but dismisses the possibility. It takes until she goes to the Mane Six's world for the realization she'd played her cards atrociously to stick.
* InSpiteOfANail: Despite her original rocky start with the locals, she's the local librarian and, since she's the only pony to smash things to try to make amends, making friends with some of the townsfolk.
* IrrationalHatred: She has an extreme dislike for Clover the Clever, regarding the mare as an overrated hack. ''Crisis on Two Equestrias'' shows the dislike stems from the fact that Clover only made ''one spell'', completely ignoring the fact she wrote down and clarified all of Star-Swirl the Bearded's work.
* MistakenForRacist: One of the more spectacularly graceless things Trixie did when the two of them first met was provoke Twilight into saying something borderline tribalist; given that she'd later tell Tootsie Flute flat out that Dinky and Snail's blood was not impure merely because they have a Pegasus for a parent despite what her parents told her, this is something Trixie has to live down.
* NoSocialSkills: Like M!Twilight, but UpToEleven.
* NotHelpingYourCase: Really doesn't do herself any favors in ''Boast Busted''.
* OtherMeAnnoysMe: Her main issue with M!Twilight is the "Want-it, Need-It" incident, which makes L!Twilight think they're both equally bad. Their difference of opinions on Clover the Clever doesn't help much either.
* TheRival: Views herself as such to Trixie after ''Boast Busted'', eventually [[spoiler:planning on [[StartMyOwn forming her own]] Elements of Harmony to prove her superiority.]]
* RealNameAsAnAlias: When recruiting ponies to form her own team (excluding the first), Twilight introduces herself Tenebrosity Scintillation, which is a long winded synonym of her real name.
* RonTheDeathEater: [[invoked]] Just how villainous she actually is has been under debate ever since ''Boast Busted''. In-universe, [[spoiler: though the ponies of Ponyville remember what she did with the Ursa Minor, they don't particularly hold it against her given how often this kind of stuff just happens in Ponyville.]]
* SacrificedBasicSkillForAwesomeTraining: She has studied an exceptional variety of spells, unfortunately she completely ignored all social skill along the way.
* ShadowArchetype: Trixie is an extroverted showoff and kind of a jerk, but also [[IJustWantToHaveFriends afraid of being left alone]] and willing to work on her flaws; Twilight is an introvert, reclusive and socially inconsiderate and [[ImNotHereToMakeFriends doesn't think she needs friends]], nor sees her flaws as a problem.
* StartMyOwn: More or less the core of her plan in ''Elements of Insanity''. It didn't turn out so well, not that such an outcome should be all that surprising, but [[spoiler:one of her choices being an evil Discordian did not help]].
* StunnedSilence: She doesn't take Clover Charms asking who Star-Swirl the Bearded is very well. At all.
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: The technician to Trixie's performer, particularly in ''Magic Tutor''.
* {{Teleportation}}: Her mastery of this enables her to evade capture and keep running away from her problems and issues rather than facing them.
** Her thesis, which let her graduate from Luna's Magic Academy, had to do with the theory behind enabling extremely precise teleportation targeting (''An Empirical Study of Translocation: Analyzing Conjurational Variables to Enable Teleportation Arrivals Within .5 thou''. A ''thou'' is 1/1000th of an inch.)
** ''The Glass Kingdom'' actually states that she is considered the foremost expert on teleporation magic ''in the world''.
* TheyJustDontGetIt: Twilight cannot understand how Trixie could be the element of magic when she isn't even more powerful than herself, and admits she can't understand Trixie's explanation that its her connection to her friends that makes her worthy and not how many spells she knows.
* TiredOfRunning: Comes to this conclusion at the end of ''Crisis'', [[spoiler:deciding to turn herself in and face the consequences of her actions]].
--> ''"No more running, no more hiding,"''
* TryToFitThatOnABusinessCard: Viscountess Twilight Sparkle, Lady of the Northern Reaches, Lady Protector of Poniswaza, Baronett of Lankswana, Stabledawn and Drum-Mark.
-->''Some families give foals oranges in their stockings, my mother gave out titles.''

!!Vinyl Scratch
!!!Music-loving unicorn

* CrazyPrepared: She always carries a stealth suit on her person, just in case. She lives in Ponyville, after all.
* ADayInTheLimelight: Has a supporting role in "The Jackelope Valley Festival".
* FlatEarthAtheist: She doesn't believe in Corona. ''The'' Corona, the one who touched down in Ponyville and kidnapped a whole bunch of ponies, shouting dramatically all the while, and ''setting things on fire.''

!!!Earth pony. Window repair pony for Ponyville.
* FirstNameBasis: With Trixie.
--> ''Trixie shook her head, wondering for the hundredth time how she was on a first name basis with the window-repair pony.''
* RecurringExtra: Mostly appears or is mentioned whenever [[RunningGag Trixie's window is broken]].
* SoftGlass: Has started stocking a special safe-break glass for Trixie's window.

[[folder:Ponyville: Other Foals]]
%%%Names should be sorted alphabetically.

!!! Pegasus-unicorn hybrid who doesn't like how the other foals think she's a wise princess-to-be and would rather stick to pottery.
* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: The other foals act like this around her, even though she's pretty sure she's not actually a princess.

!!!Earth pony. Applejack's little sister. Very defensive of her family.
* AdorablyPrecociousChild: Mild example. While she's still child at heart, she has carried the pressure for the Trust's future from a little foal. Applejack wishes [[ChildrenAreInnocent she could grow up without the burden]].
* MoralityChain: After ''Carrot Top Season'', it's Apple Bloom who allows Applejack to overcome her pride and stubbornness when asking Carrot Top for help.
* ThickerThanWater

!!Bee Bop
!!! Pegasus. Friends with Featherweight. Kind of loud.
* NoIndoorVoice: Her mom says she sounds just like a princess.

!!Diamond Tiara
!!!Earth pony. Very rich.
* CannotSpitItOut: Can't admit her feelings to Scootaloo, no matter how hard she tries.
* DaddysGirl: Oh, so much.
--> '''Filthy Rich''': Now, if anypony asks, I spent seven hundred bits on your mother and a hundred and fifty on you, okay, honey?
** Her solution to a crisis? Scream for dad (she's annoyed when it doesn't work).
* DependingOnTheWriter: Exactly how much of a jerk DT is depends on the story. "Just Us Little Ponies" has her descending all the way from JerkWithAHeartOfGold to plain old JerkWithAHeartOfJerk.
* [[EvenEvilHasStandards Even Jerks Have Standards]]: Is horrified when, Raindrops, in ''Eye of the Hurricane'', makes Snails cry.
** Not that this stops her bullying him some months later, though.
* EveryoneCanSeeIt: Well, not everyone, but Lyra and Bon Bon realize that she has feelings for Scootaloo almost immediately when they come to buy an apology gift for Cheerilee.
* HiddenDepths: Her special talent is accessorizing, and she ''hates'' it when others think that it means that she's only good at wearing jewelry (basically, she knows what goes best on who and such).
** She's a bit nicer than she first appears.
* JerkassFacade: A lot of her behavior is a cover for the fact that she has NoSocialSkills.
* LovableAlphaBitch: Thanks to her occasional PetTheDog moments and SympatheticPOV in ''Scootalong to the Cheer''.
* NoSocialSkills: ''Scootalong to the Cheer'' reveals that most of Diamond Tiara's abrasiveness and hostility is a defensive facade to cover up her insecurity and awkwardness around other ponies. [[{{Tsundere}} Especially Scootaloo]].
* PetTheDog: After confirming several times that Dinky really did earn all those bits by herself with hard work, compliments her on a job well done. (Though she also makes it very clear she doesn't want that being spread around at school, obviously!)
* PuppyLove: Has a '''MASSIVE''' crush on Scootaloo.
* RescueRomance: Was "saved" by Scootaloo from a phony kidnapping some time before Trixie arrived in Ponyville.
* SourSupporter: Tends to fall into this role in stories that group her with other foals.
* SpoiledBrat
* {{Tsundere}}: towards Scootaloo.

* {{PyroManiac}}: Loves fireworks a ''lot''.

!!! Earth Pony. Moves to Ponyville about halfway through Season 1.
* {{Pirate}}: His favorite role in the foal's pick-up LARPing. His family appears to be one of the few Equestrian families in the maritime business.
* ShipTease: With Dinky. [[spoiler: They've been shown to get married in at least two different possible futures.]]

!!!Pegasus. Friend of Sweetie Belle and underachiever, at least insofar as school work is concerned.
* BizarreTasteInFood: Uses [[BlazingHellfireInfernoSauce liquid rainbow]] as dip. (As in, the stuff not even canon Pinkie Pie could handle.) Her dad wonders how her digestive system takes it.
* BookDumb: Balances between this and DumbJock.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: Ask anypony if she drives ''way'' too fast with her scooter.
* [[FearlessFool Fearless Foal]]: Always comes up with new ideas for crazy ([[HeroOfAnotherStory offscreen]]) stunts or adventures.
* MissingMom: Her mother died a year before the ''Longest Night, Longest Day'' happened.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl/[[ThoseTwoGuys Those Two Foals]]: with Sweetie Belle.

!!Silver Spoon
!!!Earth pony. Also very rich.
* [[EvenEvilHasStandards Even Jerks Have Standards]]: Is horrified when Raindrops, in ''Eye of the Hurricane'', makes Snails cry.
* [[YesMan Yes Filly]]

!!!Unicorn. Snails' best friend.
* ItAmusedMe: The reason he starts changing the colors of his classmates' coats and manes at the end of "Magic Tutor". That, and Snails was sick at home.

!!Sweetie Belle
!!!Unicorn, Rarity's little sister, friend of Scootaloo.
* EpicFail: At one point she borrows Scootaloo's scooter and gets stuck in a tree. Not even ''she'' is sure how it happened.
* ForTheLulz: In ''Rhyme of the Ancient Pegasus'', she neglects to mention she and her fellow carollers are singing a drinking song because, hey, it's funny (something she and Trixie share a hoof-bump on).
* PrecociousCrush: Has it bad for Cheerilee. She admits her feelings in ''[[ValentinesDayEpisodes "To Cheerilee, with Love"]]'', but Cheerilee gently turns her down. ''An Embarrassment in Three Acts'' shows it hasn't gone away even several months later.
* [[StraightMan Straight Filly]]
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl/[[ThoseTwoGuys Those Two Foals]]: with Scootaloo.
* WiseBeyondTheirYears: As in the show, Sweetie Belle has an incredible command of language for her age.

!!Tootsie Flute
!!!Unicorn. Skilled at magic.
* RacistGrandma: Tribalist parents, actually. They believe that pureblood unicorns have stronger magic than unicorns born from mixed-tribe unions (the truth is that unicorns with unicorn parents are simply more likely to pick up magic outside of school).
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: The technician to Dinky's performer, insisting a unicorn ''needs'' to know everything about their horn's biology to cast spells.
* WiseBeyondHerYears: She knows a lot of the terminology of unicorn biology, which none of her classmates do (she insists it's necessary to know them in order to perform magic).

!!Truffle Muncher
!!!Colt. Skilled at finding food.

* BigEater: Since his special talent is all about finding food.
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: He regards being able to find (and then eat) food as the best thing ever, but then he is a kid.

[[folder:Canterlot: Night Court Royalty and Nobility]]

%%% Sort by noble rank, then alphabetically within rank. The titles of nobles, in descending order of rank, is: Princess, Grand Duke/Grand Duchess, Viceroy/Vicereine, Archduke/Archduchess, Duke/Duchess, Marquess/Marchioness, Count/Countess, Viscount/Viscountess, Baron/Baroness, Baronet/Baronetess, Knight/Dame, Lord/Lady.

* CorruptPolitician: A depressingly large number of them.
* EngineeredPublicConfession: [[spoiler:Gets this pulled on them ''en masse'' due to "Truth is a Scourge".]]
* [[RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething Nobles Who Actually Do Something]]: For better or worse, they do frequently do "something". It's just that depressingly often, the Element Bearers wished they didn't.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: They tend to get this from ponies who think they're just paper-pushers. The junior-ranked nobles tend to get this even from other nobles. But most of the nobles we've seen, even the Barons, have proven themselves to be quite powerful when they need to be.
* ViciousCycle: [[spoiler:Luna has seen it become infested by greedy, selfish 'nobles' before. Several times, in fact. Since she's unwilling to risk JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope, she purges it through entirely legal means every few generations, fully aware future members will give into temptation again.]]
* VillainWithGoodPublicity: They're all corrupt to one degree or another, a few good eggs aside, but to each of their provinces they couldn't possibly be as bad as the others.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: After [[spoiler:cutting a deal with Zizanie]] and realizing that the corruption is worse than she could have thought, Luna reminds the Night Court that the Mayors of the towns and cities of Equestria could easily form a new, BETTER government than the one that currently exists.

!!Princess Luna Equestris
!!!Alicorn. Ruler of Equestria, shephard of the moon, and caretaker of the sun. Trixie's teacher in the art of magic and politics. Corona's younger sister. Immortal and incredibly powerful.
!!![[ Profile]]

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: In-universe, Lyra wonders during ''The Glass Kindgom'' if her sending the Elements on a good-will tour isn't also Luna getting back at them for what they did at the Grand Galloping Gala.
* BerserkButton: Whatever you do, don't screw up performing the 'Symphony for Moon and Sun'.
* ColonyDrop: Can call down the stars if she needs to utterly destroy something.
* DarkIsNotEvil: even if she has a bit dubious reputation.
* DespairEventHorizon[=/=]HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler:Suffered one after she banished Corona to the Sun, spending the next twelve years in a drunk, depressed rampage neglecting her responsibilities for Equestria. It took years of her to pull herself together and start stabilizing the kingdom from its near collapse.]]
* DirtyOldWoman: Not all the time, but when she needs to be, Luna can out-filth anyone, as happens at one point in ''Oaton''.
* DrowningMySorrows: [[spoiler:Spent the first twelve years after Corona's banishment WanderingTheEarth as a depressed drunkard.]]
%%* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses:
* FatalFlaw: Low self-confidence, primarily because she knows how close she was to becoming the villain if Celestia hadn't done so first. This is why she allows the ViciousCycle of corruption in the Night Court to continue, because she is terrified that she isn't strong enough to avoid JumpingOffTheSlipperySlope. She gets called out on it in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'':
--> “You’re not scared of being seen as a tyrant, you’re scared of [[HeWhoFightsMonsters becoming one,]] [[YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre even though you never would.]] You’re so afraid – that you’d rather just let Equestria go through these cycles then risk taking any real action, using any of your power. You’re afraid. All the time, you’re afraid. You’ve become used to it. You’re ''scared of yourself.''”
* TheFettered: Knows full well about the corruption in the Night Court, but steadfastly adheres to the law of the land instead of claiming autocratic power because that is how her sister fell.
* FriendToAllChildren: Trixie mentions that Luna likes children in ''Longest Night, Longest Day''.
* GodEmperor: While Luna does ''not'' hold this view of herself, there are some ponies who do honestly believe she's all-powerful and all-knowing.
* GoodIsNotNice:
** She can be amazingly harsh and direct when the need requires it. Not to mention destroying the lives of ponies who failed the play the Symphony of the Moon and Sun, regardless of their reasons for playing it.
** Even aside from the Symphony, mention is frequently made of Luna being ''very'' easily angered or offended, even if only briefly.
** WordOfGod is that between the two, Luna is actually ''far'' more capable of cruelty and malice than Celestia. The worst Celestia will ever (intentionally) do, no matter how much you piss her off, is kill you, and quickly at that. Luna's the one who comes up with creative punishments designed to make you ''suffer''.
* GoodIsNotSoft: Her immediate thought when Tirek appears on Tambelon? Try and destroy the entire island.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: Her reaction to dealing with all the wannabe Celestia impostors a scant twenty years after her sister's banishment.
** NailedToTheWagon: Unfortunately, she previously used a pair of Royal Commands to ensure she never overindulges, meaning her retainers are forced to deny her.
* IShouldHaveBeenBetter: She opens the Grand Galloping Gala by personally apologizing to the citizens of Ponyville for letting the Night Court get as out of control as it did.
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: While she is saddened to see friends and acquaintances and even the occasional lover die, Luna accepts that she is immortal and does not regret it. Ponies die and she does not, and that's just how things are. WordOfGod is that this is in fact the default view of alicorns.
* MamaBear: While not Trixie's ''actual'' mother, she's still got the attitude. The non-canon ''Nightmares Yet to Come'' shows what happens when someone does try to hurt Trixie - they're interrupted by a ''very'' angry Luna crashing their party.
* MesACrowd: One of her abilities is to split herself into multiple. Very handy, as it allows her to not only handle multiple meetings or tasks simultaneously, but she can send one of herself out into the world disguised as a mortal pony in order to get a break from the stresses of ruling.
* NotSoDifferent: On occasions, but especially in flashbacks, she displays several negative traits of her apprentice, Trixie, including ManipulativeBitch tendencies, reflexive fondness for lying or avoiding the truth, a nasty temper when slighted, and a high dependency on alcohol. On a more light-hearted note, she also shares Trixie's dislike of paperwork and love of foals.
* PhysicalGod
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero: Luna doesn't always have the absolute greatest views on the griffons, seeing them as a threat to Equestria equivalent to dragons, to be watched and kept in check, rather than just another species.
* PraetorianGuard: Her Night Guard. Their signature appearance (bat wings, slitted eyes, tufted ears, and fangs) is stated to be the result of a glamour on their armor. It's also noted that their job is actually to protect those ''around'' Luna, as she is more than capable of defending herself, but anything that would meaningfully attack her is probably going to do so in such a way as to put innocent lives at risk in the process.
* [[KingIncognito Princess Incognito]]: Is known to occasionally disguise herself as a mortal pony (or more than one, as in ''Longest Night, Longest Day'') so that she can interact with her subjects as their equal rather than as their ruler.
* Really700YearsOld: Like Corona, she's so old that even she's forgotten her exact age, yet physically she appears young enough that [[CrowningMomentOfFunny Shining Armor thought she looked cute in glasses]] (much to his own consternation).
* RedOniBlueOni: Used to be the aggressive, belligerent red oni to Celestia's calm, reserved blue when they were much younger.
* SinisterScythe: Nightbringer, her favored weapon. According to legend, the blade is forged of [[ThunderboltIron starmetal]] and [[InsubstantialIngredients moonlight]].
* TechnicianVersusPerformer: Given as the reason why she never just ''told'' anyone what the deal with the Symphony of the Moon and Sun is. Falling heavily on the "performer" side, she feels explaining how the song was meant to be would ruin it.
* ThickerThanWater: Continuously tries reaching out to Corona at every opportunity, to little avail.
* TryToFitThatOnABusinessCard: Often gets introduced with several titles added to her name, like "mistress of the star beasts, and sovereign of the three tribes".
* WarriorPrincess: Super-strong, super-tough, super-fast, magic enough to call down meteor strikes, and millennia of experience fighting off Equestria's enemies.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Trixie tells her this in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala''.

!!Viceroy Nightlight
!!!Unicorn. Leader of House Starlight. Father to Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor, and husband of Twilight Velvet.

* BenevolentBoss: Is willing to trust his employees, within reason.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Thanks to what happened to Twilight Sparkle, he apparently wants [[spoiler:all of Ponyville]] to suffer. [[spoiler: Ditzy]] calls him out on it in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'', using [[spoiler: her own motherhood]] to deflect his ThickerThanWater excuse.
* IrrationalHatred: Of Trixie. She wasn't entirely to blame for Twilight becoming a wanted fugitive, yet he despises her for it all the same.
** [[spoiler: By the end of ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'', however, he's realized his mistake once it's shown that his hatred of Trixie is just a symptom of concern for Twilight. While he won't ever be friends with Trixie, he stops hating her.]]
* ObstructiveBureaucrat: Briefly, and aimed directly at Trixie. Otherwise, he tried to be a ReasonableAuthorityFigure (or as close as could be managed inside the Court).
* PapaWolf
* [[SillyRabbitIdealismIsForKids Silly Trixie, Idealism is For Fillies]]: When Trixie tries to call him out for his DisproportionateRetribution, he just shrugs and makes a pithy comment about how she doesn't understand how the Night Court works.
* SuperOCD: He doesn't much like it when things are out of place. At all.

!!Vicereine Twilight Velvet
!!!Unicorn, heir of House Starlight. Mother of Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor, wife of Night Light. By family tradition she looks after her house's province of Latigo.

* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: Before Twilight Sparkle went on her walkabout, Velvet told her to wear something nice, just in case she met a good-looking stallion. Twilight Velvet ''really'' wants her some grandkids.
* MamaBear: Do ''not'' insult her family. Puissance does, and Velvet calls the older mare out on her own awful parenting styles.
* ModestRoyalty: Attends a function held by another Vicereine in a remarkably simple-looking dress.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure:
** When she figures out Sheriff Silverstar was with Twilight Sparkle, she manages to persuade Puissance into letting him get out, without breaking any rules.
** Velvet is the only one of Twilight's family who doesn't try to get back at Trixie in one way or another.

!!Vicereine Puissance
!!! Pegasus. Leader of House Optiebeurs-Golo. Aging but extremely powerful member of the Night Court. Utterly ruthless in defending her position.

* BadBoss: Will fire employees for minor slip-ups, or not adjusting a budget just the way she wants.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Tries to act like a sweet, loving grandmother towards her great-grandson, Flicker, but the minute he questions her the mask slips.
* BrokenPedestal: According to ''Elements of Insanity'', she actually did respect something that wasn't money once - Twilight Velvet's grandmother. That no longer applies, and she finds the current heir of House Starlight a massive idiot.
* TheCollector
** CollectorOfTheStrange: WordOfGod is that she loves to collect rare and valuable things, and ponies too. She's especially fond of pegasus-unicorn hybrids, since they are very rare (only five or in existence at any given time) and they look kind of like alicorns.
** ''Treasure City'' shows that she has at least two pegacorns (including one that looks almost exactly like Celestia), an earthicorn, a descendant of King Sombra (who has his shadow powers), a 4-winged pegasus, a null pony, and a half-pony, half-windigo hybrid.
** She's had seven foals; WordOfGod is that this is a natural extension of her desire to collect.
** ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'' even suggests that she collects ''provinces''. She is the vicereine of both Califurlong and Palomino. For comparison, every other noble we've met has been in charge of only one province.
** In ''Climbing the Mountain'', Max gives her a birthday present: a rock from the top of a certain tor that is too steep for most ponies to climb, and surrounded by wind patterns that make flying unsafe. It's one of the few times she's actually shown as being impressed by something.
* ControlFreak: She insists it's her right to name her great-grandson, as opposed to the kid's parents.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: She doesn't believe unconditional love exists, nor does she understand why it'd be worth having, or even how it works.
* EvilMatriarch: Some of her kids tried to oppose or supplant her. They're all exiled far from Canterlot or worse.
* EvilOldFolks
* {{Greed}}
* ItsAllAboutMe: Puissance seems utterly incapable of understanding any viewpoint that isn't her own, or that anyone could be doing something that isn't about her. Case in point, she believes the Elements of Harmony will (not might) try and separate her from Ice Heart, before they've even met him. And at that point all of them, save Cheerilee, believe she's okay.
* LargeAndInCharge: She's mentioned as being very tall for a Pegasus, and she's a vicereine.
* ManipulativeBitch: She finds rare and unique ponies, gives them all they could want or need, all the possible comforts they could ask for, and all they have to do is love her unconditionally.
** She also happens to be a member of several government committees and cabinets, and unofficially controls several more.
* ManipulativeBastard: Her special talent is authority, and she's really good at getting people to go along with her point of view. And then there's the ponies of The Vault.
* MeaningfulName: In more ways than one. Puissance is a kind of horse competition involving difficult (but limited) jumping stunts. Puissance is also an obscure word meaning 'power'.
** Taken UpToEleven in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala,'' where her full name is revealed to be Puissance Noctilucent Optiebeurs-Golo. Optiebeurs Golo is the name of the horse that currently holds the world record for the puissance jump.
* NeverMyFault: After Luna yells at the court for their behaviour, Puissance is noted to walk away acting like she doesn't deserve to be yelled at, even though Luna was yelling at her for ''falsifying evidence at her daughter's trial''.
* PleasePutSomeClothesOn: Wants this of Luna in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala''. Not out of modesty at all; in fact, she fears being made to look like a fool out of touch with the commoners.
* RichBitch: Insanely, ludicrously rich, and with all the empathy of a rock.
* SpoiledBrat: As a foal, her parents told her she would want for nothing. Several decades later, and the only thing that's changed is her age.
* TryToFitThatOnABusinessCard: She has almost a hundred different titles which she's acquired (or just bought) over her life. And in a formal situation, she naturally requires them to be read out in full.
* YesMan: Surrounds herself with these. Anyone who expresses a different opinion from her is lucky if they just get cowed back into line.

!!Vicereine Wallflower
!!!Earth pony. A kind and just Courtier (or at least as kind and just as the Night Court gets) who is responsible for Canterlot province itself.
* MotorMouth
* MundaneLuxury: Since her family controlled the Canterlot region before it was the capitol, she's basically the only pony with enough Canterlot real estate to "waste" space on things like gardens.
* TheSpymaster: 'Climbing the Mountain' verifies that she directs the spies of the Royal Diplomatic Corps.

!!Archduke Bobbing Fisher
!!!Unicorn. Another powerful member of the Court. Archduke of Rushia, with particular ties to the industrial city of Stalliongrad.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive
* DropTheHammer: He's seen wielding a big warhammer in 'Just Us Little Ponies' and 'Climbing the Mountain'. WordOfGod is that he's very skilled with it.
* EvilSoundsDeep: His creator said that he thinks of Fisher sounding similar to Johan Schinkler, a bass singer with a very deep voice.
* FantasticRacism: He's a diehard tribalist who is morally offended that non-unicorns have as much power on the Court that they do. In 'Climing the Mountain', he refers to Baron Mounty Max's goat secretary, Mrs. Grobnar, as his ''pet''.
** He also assumes that the Eyrie (a griffon-majority settlement founded a century or so back in Nulpar by refugees from the Kingdoms) must secretly be a fifth column for the Griffin Kingdoms, despite the fact that every living inhabitant is an Equestrian citizen by birth.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: What he said at the Gala cost him a lot of respect from several members of the Night Court.
* HuskyRusskie: Described as having a build more commonly found on earth ponies.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Condemns Posey for her treatment of Fluttershy, while he's on incredibly shaky grounds with his own wife.
* IrrationalHatred: For Trixie. He sees her as a lazy loafing layabout who squandered the opportunities Luna gave her and is recklessly endangering the nation by refusing to train for the battle with Corona everyone thinks is coming.
* KnightTemplar
* LaserGuidedKarma: Was forced out of his Ministry of War for his abuse of power, and after an entire story (and more) of him excusing every horrible thing he did on the basis that it's for 'the greater good' and is the 'righteous' thing to do, is caught in the middle of a criminal scheme and exposed by an actual righteous pony.
* MeaningfulName: His name's a takeoff of [[ Bobby Fischer]]; both being talented chess players, incredibly paranoid and fanatic racists.
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong: Spent four years in Stalliongrad, without any of his House's resources. This helped build him into the strong zealot he is now.
* NotSoDifferent: Exactly the same kind of tyrant as Corona, except on a smaller scale. Even has the exact same justification for his actions.
* TheParanoiac: He's completely paranoid that a single lapse on his part will result in the utter devastation of Equestria by Corona. The fact that she ''hasn't'' been going around the country burning everything in sight just doesn't register with him.
* ScrewTheRulesImDoingWhatsRight: Or at least that's how he tries to justify his actions. In truth his morals are so skewed by his own twisted biases, that his sense of what's "right" has little to no resemble to anything of the sort. In Fisher's mind the prosperity and security of the nation is paramount, even at the expense of freedoms and safety of its citizenry.
* [[SmartPeoplePlayChess Smart Ponies Play Chess]]: WordOfGod is that he's a fantastic player who hates to lose. He's also one of the more clever politicians in the Court.
* TotalitarianUtilitarian

!!Archduchess Nobility
!!!Unknown tribe.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Does this to Captain Lightning, once he gets her to vote a certain way for what turns out to be a bogus reason, having him sent off to the Griffon Embassy.

!!Duchess Fragrant Posey
!!!Pegasus. Duchess in the Night Court, related to Fluttershy.

* MamaBear: Wants to take Trixie to task for 'threatening' Fluttershy and temporarily abducting one of her chickens. The problem is that when Fragrant heard of this, she didn't understand that Trixie barely knew who Fluttershy was, and what she did know made her feel sorry for her.
** And during the Gala, Archduke Fisher comes clean with his opinion that Posey should be trying to force Fluttershy into a political position. Posey's good-will towards him disintegrates, and several months later, she's still angry at him.
* MentorShip: With NaiveNewcomer Mounty Max.
* OldShame: In-universe. She once accepted a bribe early in her career and, after Luna's asking if there is one honest pony in the Night Court, has the decency to say "No".
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Read Trixie the riot act for the incidents that flipped her MamaBear switch, but was also willing to give her a little benefit of the doubt when Trixie gave her side of the story and swore that she bore Fluttershy no ill will.
* SexyMentor: Max certainly thinks so.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Or at least as close as can be managed with the Night Court.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: She looks pretty similar to an older Fluttershy.

!!Duke Greengrass
!!![[ Profile]]
!!!Earth pony, Politician. A young and aggressive member of the Night Court.
* AccentuateTheNegative: His special talent of weeding makes him very good at finding ponies' weaknesses. He is lousy at noticing a pony's strengths. His inner monologue about Trixie in ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'' paints her as a seething mass of flaws and vices, copmletely ignoring all of the virtue she has displayed.
* BadPowersBadPeople: His cutie mark talent makes him very good at breaking other ponies down. Not so much at building them back up.
* TheBusCameBack: After last being seen running into the night in "At the Grand Galloping Gala", he shows up again in "Just Us Little Ponies".
** BusCrash: Narrowly averted. We find out in JULP that he almost died a few months after the Gala while he was still offscreen, but Max and Greenmeadow were able to rescue him just in time.
* [[CanadaEh Caneighda Eh]]: The Duke's province.
* TheChessmaster: How he apparently works.
* CrazyEnoughToWork
* DeadpanSnarker: Gets in his licks.
-->''If the court stopped getting rewards for things they didn't do, half of them would starve to death.''
* DidIJustSayThatOutLoud: [[spoiler: (to Luna, as a result of ''Truth is a Scourge'' kicking in) "You useless cow."]]
* EngineeredPublicConfession: Offers to push Baron Max off the Court in exchange for Duke Fisher's help in regaining his influence, while he knows Baron Max is nearby and able to overhear the whole thing. The idea was to sacrifice his own position (which he couldn't really do anything with) in exchange for knocking Fisher out of the Court and giving Max a nice leg up. Max, however, makes it clear that he's not going to allow Greengrass to cheat him into power, and tells Luna not only what Greengrass did but why he did it.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood: His father was a pony who continuously placed the welfare of the nation before himself, and spent fifty years doing everything he could for Equestria, and virtually nothing for himself. Not only does Greengrass think he was a loser, but he doesn't understand that his dad was trying to help others, as opposed to simply amassing power for himself. Also, when [[spoiler: Lyra]] confronts him ''At the Grand Galloping Gala'', he expresses the view that he cannot imagine the Element-bearers ''not'' wanting to use their status for political gain. After Lyra and Bon-Bon are finished, he comes to the [[InsaneTrollLogic conclusion]] that their telling him they don't care about politics means Trixie is somehow working for Blueblood.
* EvilIsPetty: Briefly considered sending Octavia to the Mild West for being TheMole, before coming up with something much worse.
* {{Expy}}: His profile specifically states that in a lot of ways, he's essentially a pony version of [[WesternAnimation/{{Gargoyles}} Xanatos]].
* IllNeverTellYouWhatImTellingYou: [[spoiler:Courtesy of Truth is a Scourge, he tells Luna how he plans to remove her from power, at length, against his will.]]
* IrrationalHatred: Not for his enemy Trixie, but for traitors in general. He'll fire incompetent employees, but he will ''obliterate'' ones that betray him, even if the betrayal wasn't successful or meaningful.
* {{Jerkass}}: Other moral failings aside, Greengrass is just generally a smug asshat.
* MakeWayForTheNewVillains: The non-cannon ''Nightmares Yet to Come'' has a part where the not-cultists find his hidden mansion, beat him up and do... ''something'' to get rid of him, because they consider him a danger.
* ManipulativeBastard
* MassiveMultiplayerScam: At least one of his cons works like this.
* OddFriendship: With the honest and earnest Baron Mounty Max, after Max helped him with the Sun Cult.
* PersonaNonGrata: [[spoiler:Retains his title and seat on the Court after the Gala, but everypony knows that Luna despises him, causing him to lose all of his influence and alliances among the other nobles.]]
* TricksterMentor: Likes to think of himself as being this for Baron Max.
* UndyingLoyalty: His one virtue. While he'll obliterate traitors, he'll go to the ends of the world for his loyal employees.
** When the Sun Cult captures Notary, he embarks on a plan that he thinks will cost him everything--his seat in the Court, his title, even his life--and goes on a RoaringRampageOfRevenge that annihilates the Canterlot chapter of the cult. By the end of it, their headquarters is in flames and the entire Canterlot chapter of the Sun Cult has been destroyed.
* VillainExitStageLeft: At the end of 'At The Grand Galloping Gala'.
* VisionaryVillain: He wants to control Equestria like his own garden, tending to it and helping it 'grow' into something far greater and more glorious than its current state.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Vanishes near the end of 'At the Grand Galloping Gala'. [[spoiler: He shows up again in 'Just Us Little Ponies'.]]
* WhatKindOfLamePowerIsHeartAnyway: His special talent is ''weeding''. [[spoiler: As in, [[AttackItsWeakPoint finding objects' weaknesses and exploiting them]] [[HeartIsAnAwesomePower to his advantage, if not outright disposing]] them.]]
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Actually gets a bit of this in ''Climbing the Mountain'' when Baron Max is trying to convince him to join the group of nobles who are working to find a way to improve the Night Court. Max finds out about his VisionaryVillain status and argues that since his goal, self-serving as it is, involves Equestria being better for everypony else as well, he can't be ''all'' bad.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Subverted. Trixie thinks this of him, but it turns out not to be true.
** In fact, his reaction to Notary being captured by the Sun Cult is to launch a massive scheme which involves him ''letting himself be abducted by the Cult'' in order to infiltrate their organization, blow up their weapons stores, and utterly annihilate the Canterlot chapter.
** However, he has a tendency to inflict this status on ponies he hires the minute they stop being immediately useful to him, utterly destroying their careers or lives.
** Actually inflicts this on ''himself'' in ''Just Us Little Ponies''. Having realized that Luna will never restore his influence, he deliberately does something very illegal in such a way that Mounty Max is bound to catch him, thus allowing Mounty to boost his career at the expense of the remnants of Greengrass's own political position.
--> "I'm still walking around, but I can't grow in Equestria or even Caneighda now--Luna won't let me. Really, from a plant-based perspective, I'm more of a rotting tree that hasn't quite fallen over yet than anything else. But you, Max, you are another rare flower, the kind the Court hasn't seen in centuries. If my destruction fertilizes--"

!!Count Shiny Copper Coin

* DemotedToExtra: In the earlier stories [[WhatCouldHaveBeen he was intended to become the primary political antagonist for Trixie]], before Duke Greengrass took over and expanded the role to include the entire Lunaverse Six.
* EveryoneHasStandards: A manipulative jerk he may be, but he still tries to avoid making grown mares cry in public.
* EvilCounterpart: To Trixie, in regard to her Element of Magic. Both are minor political figures, but while Trixie uses her talents to help others, Blueblood's only interests are himself and restoring his family line to prominence.
* GutFeeling: His special talent is "direction", and expresses itself this way. As long as he follows his instincts and doesn't get too caught up in his own attempts at scheming, he tends to benefit.
** A good example is at the Gala, when he accepts Pinkie Pie as his companion for the night. [[spoiler:Since she keeps Zizanie and Raindrops from getting close enough to poison him with the Scourge, and she drinks his (spiked) punch before he can, he is spared from the effects of the Scourge. * HiddenDepths: His [[ADayInTheLimeLight "Longest Night" side story]] shows that he's highly devoted to restore his family's old status, and he was the first in line to gather the unicorn nobility to help the Royal Guard against Corona.
** Trope's even mentioned by name by [[spoiler: Zizanie]].
** He's in a loving, completely equal relationship with Pinkie Pie. No, really.
* HisNameReallyIsBarkeep: Played with. Prince is his real name, but not his actual title.
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: His ancestor had ([[IDidWhatIHadToDo presumably]]) sided with Corona, which brought the whole family into unpopularity in the Night Court. The whole Blueblood line has ever since worked to earn back their FamilyHonor.
* MoralityChain: Pinkie Pie acts as his conscience in later works.
* OldShame: In-Universe. The above-mentioned past with Corona.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: He's actually depicted as being reasonably politically savvy, if underinformed. He's simply outclassed by serious players like Greengrass.
* PetTheDog: In "Pinkie and Blueie Twoie", gives his butler Hearthwarming Day off to spend with his family and convinces Pinkie's family to reconcile with her.

!!Baron Mounty Max
!!!Earth pony. Junior member of the court. Naive, and would rather be rock climbing.
* ActionHero: Despite being a noble, he tends to wind up in situations where he gets into physical fights. He's disrupted at least two major crime sprees and fought the leader of a group of bandits, and those are just the ones we know of. He even finds himself wondering how other nobles manage to go months at a time without ending up in mortal danger.
* {{Determinator}}: He doesn't have much martial training, if any, so on the occasions when he gets into a fight with another pony [[spoiler:like his duel with Fisher in ''Climbing the Mountain'',]] his fighting style basically amounts to tanking whatever his opponent is hitting him with and stubbornly refusing to stay down.
* TheDitz: Max is a nice pony, undeniably, but he does have a bad habit of not necessarily thinking things through. Like that time he decided to wrestle an elk, elks being several times larger and stronger than almost every pony.
* {{Hunk}}: Somehow managed to win a prize in the Mr. Equestria competition. He was one of the judges.
* LeaveYourQuestTest: Has twice been offered the chance to exchange his Barony for a Knight Erranthood. Has turned it down both times, because he knows that while he'd be a lot happier as a Knight Errant, he can do more good for more ponies as a Night Court noble.
* MentorShip: With the far more experienced Duchess Posey.
* NaiveNewcomer: To the Night Court.
* NiceGuy: Even before getting his own stories, his few appearances had shown him to be very friendly and approachable.
* OddFriendship: With Duke Greengrass, after the business with the Sun Cult.
* ThePaladin: Turning into this. He almost gets himself killed to save Greengrass, a criminal whom Max detested, because it was the right thing to do. !!Snowy Night/Rimewind the Frigid
!!!Pegasus. A former apprentice of Luna from 300 years ago, still alive thanks to Windigo magic.

Born to a family of poor farmers on the Everfree border zone before the Everfree provinces were created, Snowy displayed a natural talent for weather manipulation. However the death of her little brother coupled with her parents' blaming her for leaving the farm and being at least partially responsible drove her to seek out the Windigos. While her initial goal was to find a way to control the Everfree's weather (though it's unclear if the Windigos can actually do this), her searching for them and being alone in her thoughts eventually drove her insane and instilled in her a desire to coat the world in snow and ice. The Windigos imparted to her immense power, transforming her into Rimewind the Frigid. Luna fought against her and defeated her, imprisoning the now-glacially-aging pony in Tartaros, where she has spent the last 300 years regaining her sanity. She is the only other living student of Luna besides Trixie.

* {{Adorkable}}: At times.
* AmbiguousInnocence: Raindrops is convinced she's lying or insincere about something. Whether she actually ''is'' isn't clear, but odd things start happening when she shows up.
* TheAtoner: Recovered her sanity a century or so ago, but still felt bad enough about everything that happened that she insisted on remaining in Tartaros until the present day.
* BlessedWithSuck: Snowy is still aging, it's just that physically aging one year is taking several hundred at a time. She's going to spend a long, ''long'' time in as a middle-aged or old-aged pony.
** Her ice powers are far and away above what any other pegasus has...but she can't deal with more "normal" temperatures very well. It's unclear if this is a result of her powers, though, or if instead it's because she spend 300 years in a frozen river in Tartaros and simply needs to get used to warmer climes again.
* {{Callback}}: Not her directly, but while in Kokytos she built an ice palace for herself. That Trixie visited. Fortunately this one didn't melt, which means Trixie is 2-1 in that regard.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: 300 years ago, she was a threat to Equestria that required Luna's intervention to stop.
* DealWithTheDevil: With the Windigos, though according to her there wasn't exactly a lot of ''bargaining''. They knew what she wanted, she knew what they wanted. There was no actual words involved.
* DespairEventHorizon: What pushed her over the edge 300 years ago. She got better.
* {{Expy}}: Of Sunset Shimmer in the show. Like Sunset, Snowy is a former student of the princess who turned to evil and became a monster as a result, but was later redeemed.
** Of Corona to an extent, as well.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: Averted. 200 years in the River Kokytos in Tartaros helped her ''regain'' her sanity (along with regular visits from Luna), while the next 100 years were self-imposed at her own request as a form of personal atonement.
* AnIcePerson: The Windigo gave her power over snow and ice that goes to practically Elsa levels.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Her first action was to help the Ponyville weather patrol with an ice problem in their clouds...without permission, telling them what she was up to, or even introducing herself.
* KillItWithIce: Her plan 300 years ago, for ''all of Equestria''.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: What prompted her to stay in Tartaros for an extra hundred years.
* Really700YearsOld: 320 years old, but due to the glacial aging that the Windigos "gifted" to her, she only looks to be in her early 20s.
* RequiredSecondaryPowers: She never gets cold.
* TraumaCongaLine: First, her parents basically disowned her when she left the farm to learn from Luna. Then a few years later, she learns that her youngest brother is extremely ill, after it's too late for Luna's magic to do anything to help him (and the medical knowledge of the time being insufficient to save him, either). He dies, sending her over the DespairEventHorizon. She sets out looking for Windigos, ostensibly to find out how to control the weather in the Everfree (as she blamed an unusually cold winter on her brother's death), but by the time she found them she had gone mad and instead used the powers they gave her to try and cover Equestria in rime and snow. In the end, she's defeated by Luna and locked in Tartaros.
* VagueAge: Averted (which is rare for the Lunaverse), she's explicitly 320 years old, give or take a few years, though she looks much younger.
* WickedCultured: Snowy's letters read like they could have been written by Ben Franklin or Lord Nelson. In person, however, she is much more casual, even using (admittedly antiquated) slang, like "gardyloo!" ("look out below", roughly...but generally referring to when one emptied a chamber-pot the window)
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: Of a different sort than normally seen in the Lunaverse; Snowy speaks and writes like someone from the late-1700s or early 1800s. She doesn't use "thee" or "hast" or the like, but does use antiquated words or spellings ("donjon" instead of dungeon; "immurement" instead of imprisonment), and well as archaic sentence structure (such as "I trust not" rather than "I don't trust", or using "I/it be" instead of "I am/it is")

!!Solar Flare
!!!Vicereine Puissance's chief of staff, and her bodyguard when Puissance is on her own territory. A pegasus-unicorn hybrid who looks almost exactly like Corona. Hated and feared by most who see her but 'loved' by Puissance, she will do anything for her master.

* BodyguardCrush: Truly loves Puissance.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has some nasty ones on one side of her face.
* GrumpyBear: Labelled as such by the Vault residents. And they're the closest things she has to friends.
* IRejectYourReality: Honestly believes that everypony is ''jealous'' of Puissance because of her money, and how much the Vault ponies love her.
* PlayingWithFire: Not helping the Corona comparison.
* WhoNamesTheirKidDude: You have to wonder what would drive a mother to name her filly "Solar Flare" in a world that fears the Sun as much as the Lunaverse.

!!Vast Volumes
!!!An incredibly stupid translator who worked in Canterlot, and one of the few ponies in Equestria who can read zebra. Unicorn.

* BlindIdiotTranslation: She is the idiot doing the translating, along with two others, who divided up the task of translating between them in the most inefficient means possible. [[spoiler:And because of that, Lyra's turned into a human.]]
** Later, she leaves most of a Griffon document untranslated to preserve the original feel. She does include a guide to the language though... in the ''back'' of the book.
* FantasticRacism: She's a tribalist, thinking all earth ponies are ignorant.
* TooDumbToLive: Outside of the already mentioned idiocy with the translating, she bad-mouths earth ponies right in front of Lyra and [=BonBon=], who'd be perfectly fine with getting rid of at least ''one'' of the three.
* WhoNamesTheirKidDude: Trixie snarks about her name, and if there hadn't been more pressing matters admits she'd probably have gotten into a long conversation about it.

* TheUnfought: In his first appearance [[spoiler: as the conspiracy leader]] in 'Just Us Little Ponies', he sends machines to attack the ponies in the train tunnels. He doesn't actually fight anypony himself until the airship docking bay showdown, and even then, he doesn't put up much of a fight. * ReassignedToAntarctica: Thanks to one of Greengrass' schemes, he winds up pissing off a noble and gets sent to the Griffon embassy.
* SuperSpeed: His special talent, but he can't use it for very long without getting seriously winded.

!!Fancy Pants
!!!Unicorn. Advisor to Luna. Appears to be a fashion-obsessed nitwit, but is actually the head of the Shadowbolt spy operation.

* ReformedCriminal: [[spoiler:A former burglar. She still knows how to climb castle walls and disguise herself, however.]]
* TrophyWife

!!!Stuffy Shadowbolt agent

* TheMole: [[spoiler:He and his family are die-hard Celestia loyalists, who infiltrated the government solely to undermine Luna. In that capacity, Haymaker led Lyra and Raindrops into a trap.]]

!!Shining Armor
!!!Unicorn. Captain of the Royal Guard, Twilight Sparkle's older brother.
* BarrierWarrior: Acts as a center-point in Canterlot's defense field [[spoiler: against Corona]], albeit with practically every unicorn in Canterlot helping to boost the spell. Even so, by himself his barriers are strong enough that even ''Twilight'' can't break through them [[spoiler:without cracking the universe in the process]].
* BigBrotherInstinct: Cares very deeply for Twily, his LSBFF.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: His taunting of Corona provoked her into nearly wiping Canterlot off the map as a show of force. In Shining's defense, Corona does have a HairTriggerTemper anyway, but before he'd done that she'd been perfectly willing to take Canterlot without bloodshed.
* ShipTease: Him and Cadenza get along really well from their first meeting.
* {{Troll}}: Waited till Corona was mid-sentence to interrupt her. That almost proved disastrous.

!!Sneak Attack
!!!Shadowbolt. Formerly assigned to investigate Archduke Fisher. [[spoiler: Went rogue and began abducting criminals with Volk and Goliath]]
* {{Expy}}: [[spoiler:Shares a lot of features with Light Yagami of ''Manga/DeathNote'', including his 'kill all the criminals' plan and his intelligence.]]
* KickTheDog: [[spoiler:While some of his intended victims do probably deserve harsher punishment that they got, he also goes after ponies who've reformed, and Twilight Sparkle as well.]]
* KnightTemplar
* WellIntentionedExtremist

!!!Pegasus. Head of the Wonderbolts.

!!General Quicksilver (retired)
!!!Pegasus. Former general in the Equestrian military, and long-time friend of Baron Rolling Fields and Count Greenmeadow.
* DirtyOldWoman: Blatantly eyes up Mounty Max when they meet, and claims that she's like a ship. Not good for much unless she's full of... ''[[LastSecondWordSwap sailors]]''.

!!Brigadier General Morning Star
!!!Tribe unknown. Presumably male.

* AmazinglyEmbarrassingParents: The non-cannon ''Nightmares Yet to Come'' introduces his daughter, who implies he's frequently done many embarrassing things (beyond her childhood friends just finding him hot).
* MrFanservice: At the time of ''Carrot Top Season'' he was voted most handsome officer in the Equestrian army.

[[folder:Canterlot: Musicians]]

!!Concerti Brilliante
!!!The first musician to try the Symphony for Moon and Sun, excluding the composer Maestro. His ending emphasized Luna's strength and raw power.

!!!Pegasus metalhead who is good enough to impress even Octavia.

* HiddenDepths: Actually has good knowledge of classical music, having tried it before she got into metal.
* ThePowerOfRock

!!Fame Fortisi
!!!The second musician to try the Symphony for Moon and Sun. Her ending emphasized Luna's cunning and intelligence.
* TheRival: to Concerti, who overshadowed her in [[IncrediblyLamePun fame]].

!!Octavia Philharmonica
!!!See Canterlot: Night Court Staff and Servants

!!Off Beat
!!!Sweet Song's agent and brother, who wants only to see her fail.
* AlwaysSomeoneBetter: he's got some talent in music, but compared to [[TheRainman his sister]]...
* BigBrotherBully
* TheCaretaker: to her sister, and ''hates'' it, as he feels she's [[AllTakeAndNoGive holding him back]] from the successful career he wished for himself.
* HeadsIWinTailsYouLose: His plan for Sweet Song's concert. If she succeeds, he'd get the credit as her primary caretaker while she'd embarrass herself by being mentally disabled. If she fails, it would be the end of her career and he'd be able to get rid of her. [[spoiler: [[DidntThinkThisThrough He didn't account that]] Luna might figure out he put her up to it.]]
* JerkAss: He briefly considered just leaving to have his own life, but instead agreed to become his sister's agent specifically to ruin her life, taking pleasure in the fact that his actions make her cry uncontrollably at night and ultimately ruining her love of music.

!!Piano Amour
!!!The forty-ninth musician to try the Symphony for Moon and Sun, and the only such musician still alive when Octavia finally completed the work. Her ending emphasized Luna's despair and the sheer destruction of the battle.
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: in-universe. Compared to the previous attempts, her rendition of the symphony is a lot darker and sadder, focusing on Luna's DespairEventHorizon. [[spoiler: She went a ''bit'' too far, however, describing it in almost nihilistic light.]]
* ThickerThanWater: she played the symphony in order to help her family.
* ThrowTheDogABone: out of all the failed performers of the symphony, Piano was probably most content with the outcome. [[spoiler: She's also the only one alive to witness when Octavia stops the line of failed attempts by finishing the piece properly, gaining somewhat a closure for her own work too.]]
** It's implied that Luna would have given her another shot at the Symphony, but she really didn't want to push her luck.
* XanatosGambit: She knows that if she plays the Symphony, it ''will'' get Luna's attention. Even if Luna castigates her for playing it wrongly, she'll still have to talk to Piano, and Piano will get a chance to plead her family's case.

!!Red Magician
!!!Unicorn. The twenty-seventh musician to try the Symphony for Moon and Sun. His ending emphasized Luna's magical prowess and skill.

* NeverLiveItDown: In-universe, his attempt at playing the Symphony means he's still considered a joke by musicians centuries later, so much so that even Zaldian musicians mock him.

!!!The twelfth musician to try the Symphony for Moon and Sun. A scam artist. Her ending was flashy and glitzy, with no further themes.
* [[ConMan Con Mare]]

!!Sweet Song
!!!The thirty-ninth musician to try the Symphony for Moon and Sun. Mentally disabled, and can do little besides play the violin. Her ending mimicked the existing music as closely as possible.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: After her brother's mistreatment ruined music for her, she developed an interest in caring for animals in its place.
* [[TheRainman The Rainmare]]: more or less ''only'' thing she can do is play violin.

!! Thrash Metail
!!!A mysterious musician who has recently skyrocketed to popularity in Canterlot.
* ArtifactOfDoom: The Guitar of the Sirens he used to control others has a tendency to corrupt the wielders.
* HeavyMetal: In a technical sense. He's not actually that good, as Crescendo and Octavia both discover.
* ItsAllAboutMe: Thrash feels entitled to success and glory, and feels everyone should love his music because ''he'' is the one who plays it.
* MagicMusic
* MindControlMusic: How he got so popular. His music is actually sub-par, but the guitar prevents them from noticing it when his music is played live.
* ThePowerOfRock: Can brainwash ponies with his metal music.
* TheRockStar
* SmallNameBigEgo: He acts like he's one of the greatest musicians to ever live, but rather than try and actually work on his sub-part performance, decided to try and just use magic to make everyone think he's good. He's utterly incapable of accepting the idea that someone couldn't love his work, leading Octavia to wonder if before she'd come along if he'd even had to deal with a negative opinion before. He later reveals that he had, destroying all his original songs because no-one ever listened to them.

A nation to the south of Equestria that is closely allied with them, and is ruled by Princess Cadance, Luna's daughter.
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: To Italy and Rome, in culture if not historical points. The Cavallian language is simply Italian, and their capital city is Roam. They're known for their wine, and their aqueducts are famous across the continent of Cissanthema.

!!Mi Amore Cadenza
!!!Alicorn. Princess of Cavallia, a land to Equestria's southeast. Apparently once believed herself to be the reincarnation of all things good about Celestia. ''All tropes below apply to her appearance in'' An Early Reunion, ''980 years before the rest of the Lunaverse, unless otherwise stated.''
* BenevolentBoss: To her retainer, Cartasole. He's explicitly identified as an indentured servant (not quite, but basically, a slave) in the comments of ''An Early Reunion,'' but Cadence treats him with respect and care, even going so far as to try and protect him when it looked like [[ItMakesSenseInContext Luna was going to try and kill her and all the other Celestia impersonators]].
* BiTheWay: ''An Awkward Day'', set approximately 700 years after ''An Early Reunion'', has her mention that one of her previous spouses was a mare. Though, note that this is quite common in the Lunaverse.
* BreakTheCutie:
** Learning she isn't Celestia, and that the real Celestia is a raving nutjob who's first encounter with her ends with Celestia threatening to burn out her mind and enter it makes a severe dent in her cheerful persona. She does eventually recover, though.
** The death of Cartasole and their adopted children hit her so hard she sealed herself in a cave for a good few months.
* ADayInTheLimelight: ''An Early Reunion'' is a distant prequel to the Lunaverse, taking place 980 years before the first episode, and focuses on the then-twenty-year-old's Mi Amore Cadenza's first meeting with Princess Luna.
* DoesNotLikeSpam: She hates peas. Hate hate hate hate hate ''hates'' them. Her first thought on being declared an Alicorn was to consider burning ''every'' pea farm in Cavallia to the ground, only to consider that this was probably an overreaction. Nonetheless, on being confirmed as an alicorn by Luna, her first decree was to never have peas again.
* DoNotCallMePaul: Played with. Her adoptive parents named her Mi Amore Cadenza, and Luna wants to call her either Cadenza or Cadence since she doesn't believe that she really is Celestia reborn. Cadence, for her part, wants to be called Celestia.
** There's a good reason Luna doesn't believe that Cadence is Celestia reborn. The epilogue of the story reveals that Luna is Cadence's mother. Sort of.
* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: Originally, Cadence's title was Exarch, but after a few years in the role she was given the title of Princess because everyone was treating her like one anyway.
* AGodAmI: Averted. Cadence's specific goal in ''An Early Reunion'' is basically to become the deity of the sun, but she continuously demonstrates herself to be kind, caring, maybe a little ditzy, but in all ways, even if not necessarily right for the job, certainly not a bad candidate, and a far cry better than what her predecessor had become.
* GoalInLife: Hers, she believes, is to reclaim her throne in Equestria as the alicorn in charge of the sun; she's trying to prove herself to Luna as a result. This eventually stops once she realizes that she is not, in fact, a reborn Celestia.
* IWantSong: ''An Early Reunion'' opens up with Cadence, believing herself to be Celestia, singing about her goal of coming to Canterlot and reclaiming what she believes to be her rightful throne.
* JumpedAtTheCall: Grew up as an earth pony, but around when other foals were earning their cutie marks, she manifested her horn and wings. She was told that she was the reincarnation of all that was good in Celestia, accepted this as fact and eagerly looked forward to becoming the sun deity.
* LightIsGood: The one example of this trope in a setting where [[LightIsNotGood the opposite]] is generally true; her heraldry and colors specifically invoke the image of a rising or setting sun.
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: Though the last chapter of ''An Early Reunion'' made mention that, after her first husband died, she did have a brief period of [[WhoWantsToLiveForever regreting her immortality,]] she eventually recovered, and now views her immortality as a positive thing. She regrets every friend and lover who dies, but refuses to let it get her down, instead viewing her life as a progression of one good time to another.
* MayflyDecemberRomance: She married Cartasole after the events of ''An Early Reunion'', but outlived him due to being immortal. She's noted to have had other romances over the centuries, with Shining Armor [[ForegoneConclusion hinted to]] [[OfficialCouple become next]].
** Any pony who wants a long-term commitment with her gets "The Talk" about what it means to love an immortal. That she will be saddened when they pass away, but her heart will eventually open itself up to the possibility of new love with someone else. This does not in any way diminish the love she feels for those she is with, though, or for those who have come before.
* MistakenForAnImposter: Played with. Was one of about thirty ponies all claiming to be Celestia reborn. Luna thought that they were ''all'' imposters and had them all arrested after giving them a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech. However, when Cadence made her presence known, Luna realized that she was an alicorn - though not necessarily Celestia reborn - and had her and Cartasole instead brought into Canterlot castle as guests.
* NaiveNewcomer: While she was prepared to become the princess, she had no real idea of how much of a CrapsackWorld Equestria had become, nor does she remember what the era of Corona had really been like.
* NeverGrewUp: In a sense. Despite being 20 years old in ''An Early Reunion,'' and so a full adult, Cadence has yet to earn her cutie mark. She does earn it a few years later, though, specifically around the time that Cartasole proposed to her.
* PhysicalGod: ''Is'' an alicorn, just like Luna, but she is very young, and grew up as an earth pony, so her powers at the moment are largely unexplored.
** The side-story ''An Awkward Day'' showcases a much more mature and confident Cadenza, after 700 years of getting comfortable with her power and role as Cavallia's princess. By that point, she's capable of flying faster than sound, casting powerful spells casually, and using the [[NoIndoorVoice Royal Canterlot Voice]] if she feels the need.
** The later story ''From the Depths'' has her do battle with Squirk, a bona-fide Eldritch Horror who previously had fought ''both'' Luna and Celestia to a near-standstill. [[spoiler: Cadenza wins. Alone.]]
** [[spoiler: When an extraordinarily powerful black dragon invaded Cavallia around 300 years ago looking for a thief who had stolen from his horde, Cadenza didn't even break a sweat in stopping him.]]
* PokeThePoodle: In Chapter 1 of ''An Early Reunion,'' the owner of an inn and tavern was rude to her when she let slip that she believes that she is Celestia reborn, this being a mere 20 years after Celestia went insane and tried to take over Equestria. Her response?
--> “When I am Princess again, thou shalt ''regret thy actions!'' I will visit ''ruination'' upon thy business! I shall…I shall give it a ''poor review'' and ''none shall wish to dine here!”''
** The owner then points out that the Celestia ''they knew'' would have burned the place down.
* ThePowerOfLove: As in the maneverse, Cadance's special talent is love. However, it's clarified that her talent is ''all'' love - romantic love, the love between friends and family, the love of a citizen for his or her country, and so on. Additionally, she cannot create love, only clarify or help it grow. Her special talent also gives her some degree of awareness and sensitivity to all other emotions, as well.
* PrettyPrincessPowerhouse: The Alicorn princess of love is has kindness, politeness and power to spare.
** Erases ''any'' doubt of this in ''From the Depths'', when she takes on [[FluffyTheTerrible Squirk]], a bona fide EldritchAbomination.
** Then there was that time she beat down a dragon.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: A dragon once invaded Cavallia, going after a thief who'd stolen something from their horde. After beating the dragon down, Cadenza heard him out, found the thief and made him return what he'd not managed to sell off already.
* SlidingScaleofIdealismVersusCynicism: Well towards the idealist side; arguably, in fact, one of the most positive characters in the entire Lunaverse, exceeded only by Dinky.
* SpoiledSweet: In Cavallia, she's treated as something of a messiah, and has lived a life of comfort and luxury ever since she discovered her alicorn nature. She also looks forward to being a Princess and feels that luxury and comfort are hers by right. However, she is courteous, kind, [[PokeThePoodle not very good at making threats,]] and seems to want to genuinely help ponies.
** This doesn't change with time, as the last chapter of ''An Early Reunion'' and the side-story ''An Awkward Day'' show.
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: Throughout ''An Early Reunion,'' but then every noble character speaks that way to get the point across that it takes place 980 years ago.

[[folder: Zaldia]]
A nation to the east of Equestria and the north of Cavallia, chiefly defined by its FantasticRacism and its paranoid opposition to everything Equestrian and/or Cavallian.
* FantasticRacism: Zaldia is virulently unicorn-supremacist. Three-quarters of the population are unicorns. The earth ponies that comprise most of the remaining quarter are kept in deliberate ignorance as a quasi-slave caste, while the pegasi were long ago driven out into Cavallia and Equestria.
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: Linguistically, the Zaldians used the Basque language, spoken in parts of northern Spain and southern France. Culturally, however, they're modeled on UsefulNotes/TsaristRussia, with the Guarsai standing in for the Okhrana. However, they are also mentioned as maintaining a series of small colonies spanning from Shouma (China), Gia Suc (southeast Asia), and Farasi (Africa), making them also partially inspired by colonial Portugal.
* TheParanoiac: For centuries, Zaldia has defined itself almost entirely by its fear of and opposition to Equestria, to the point where basically anything Equestria does is automatically at least suspicious and probably nefarious, and constant action and vigilance must be taken to ensure that Equestria never gains the upper hoof over them because the Equestrians are surely waiting just to pounce on them or, at the very least, weaken them in some way.

!!Ispelu Magikoa
!!! The Archmage of Zaldia and a master diviner. [[spoiler: Made a deal with Corona for help in overthrowing the King of Zaldia and taking the throne himself.]]
* AnticlimaxBoss: In-universe. Despite being the Archmage of Zaldia, he's primarily a diviner, not a battlemage. When he and Trixie go toe-to-toe, they end up being pretty evenly matched.
* BilingualBonus: His name is Basque for "Magic Mirror".
* DesignatedVillain: Invoked, by him. [[spoiler: While his stated goals as king (toning down Zaldia's FantasticRacism, ending the ridiculous feud with Cavallia) are ones that Equestria would support, making a bargain with the Tyrant Sun and framing Trixie and Lyra for treason was more than enough to make him a legitimate enemy.]]
* HighClassGlass: He's got a fancy, magic-endowed monocle, which allows him to detect scrying spells.

!!Kristal Zati
!!!Ispelu Magikoa's apprentice [[spoiler: and a changeling drone pretending to be a deep-cover agent for the Guarsai]].
* AssInAmbassador: He's rude, arrogant, paranoid and condescending. And this guy is put in charge of handling delicate negotiations? Trixie guesses, going by the reaction of the Guarsai agent he summons during their meeting, that he's often summoned them up for ludicrously petty reasons.
* TheEndingChangesEverything: The revelation that [[spoiler: he's actually a deep-cover Guarsai agent]] puts a very different cast on a lot of his actions.
** [[spoiler: Then the epilogue reveals that he's actually a changeling drone, working to disrupt Zaldia's defenses.]]
* [[spoiler: HeelFaceTurn: Pulls a wholly unexpected one in Chapter 6 of ''The Glass Kingdom'', when he reveals himself as a Guarsai agent and arrests Ispelu Magikoa.]]
* {{Jerkass}}: Accuses Trixie of trying to bribe him, tells the Guarsai agent she speaks poor Prench (Trixie is practically Prench/Equestrian bilingual), and generally is rude to Trixie for no good reason.
** [[spoiler: JerkassFacade: Maybe. It's unclear whether his behavior was part of his cover or not. That said, when going to report to the king after everything goes down, he's pretty damn smug about it.]]

!!Ohar Garai
!!!An earth pony musician in Zaldia, considered one of the best on the entire continent. Plays the zither

* CruelMercy: [[spoiler:He convinces the king to spare Magikoa, not because of any actual mercy. He just doesn't want to waste potential food.]]
* [[spoiler: EvilAllAlong: Actually the changeling hivelord in command of the invasion of Zaldia.]]
* NiceGuy: About the only Zaldian Lyra and Trixie encounter who isn't a colossal jackass.
* YouNoTakeCandle: Since he can't speak Equestrian, he and Lyra converse in Cavallian, serving as the musician's ''lingua franca''. But he's not much good at Cavallian, either (though then again, neither is Lyra).

!!Platinozko Tronua
!!!King of Zaldia
* TheGoodKing: According to Ohar, he's a very progressive, friendly sort. Of course, we only have Ohar's word on that. And given the state of Zaldia, it's not much to go on. At the end of the fic, though, he meets up with Lyra and Trixie, and despite criticizing Zati for his behaviour, still displays a few condescending attitudes towards them.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler: Gives quite a long one to Kristal Zati at the end of ''The Glass Kingdom'', pointing out every flaw in the Guarsai's plan to reveal Ispelu Magikoa as a traitor.]]
** [[spoiler: The speech, however, is somewhat undercut by the epilogue's revelation that Zati ''wanted'' the Guarsai to lose power in Zaldia...since that makes a changeling invasion easier.]]

!!Armarria Solidoa
!!!A member of the Guarsai
* StateSec: Essentially his job. However, he ''appears'' to be reasonable and friendly when dealing with Trixie and Zati's "mix-up".

[[folder: Cloudsdale]]
A city in the clouds where Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy come from

!!!Pegasus. Mother of Rainbow Dash, works for the Posey family.

!!Thunderous Posey
!!!Pegasus. Wealthy weather industrialist, father of Fluttershy
* OverprotectiveDad: His daughter wants to live on the ground? Sure, he just arranges somepony to watch over her... [[AnOfferYouCantRefuse by making sure her closest friend moves there to take care of her]].

[[folder:The Dragon's Forge]]
The homeland of dragons in the Lunaverse, located in the Western Wilderlands. It's a three-mile wide volcanic caldera surrounded by jungle and a pool of lava in its center, with a tall black spire made of obsidian coming from the center of that pool.

!!Spike[[spoiler:, Overlord of All Dragons]]
!!!Baby dragon. Introduced as Zecora's friend. Was dragged along with her to work for Corona, but ran away due to how scary Corona is. Somewhat snarky.

* ArtifactOfDoom: [[spoiler:Spike got his claws on the Alicorn Amulet after finding it washed up in a river.]]
* BadAssAdorable: [[spoiler: Shows up in chapter 3 of ''The Great Dragon Coronation'' the Overlord of All Dragons.]]
* BreakTheCutie: Poor Spike. First his oldest and only friend hands him over to a mad alicorn, who proceeds to warp Spike's mind and body to use as a weapon. So Spike runs away, and has to deal with the awfulness of being a baby dragon on his own, in the ''Everfree''. By the time he reappears, it's made pretty clear Spike's developed some nasty abandonment issues.
* PowerCorrupts: [[spoiler: It's a known drawback of the Alicorn Amulet. However, Spike does manage to shake it off before anything truly serious happens, and does an excellent job of resisting it in the meantime.]]
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: In ''A Chance Encounter''.
* TokenGoodTeammate: ''Really'' doesn't like Corona, and only sticks with her because of his friendship with Zecora. This doesn't last long, however.
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler: Somehow between ''A Chance Encounter'' and ''The Great Dragon Coronation'', Spike managed to become the Overlord of All Dragons. As a reminder, dragons value strength, and the Overlord has to be able to defeat any challengers. Of course, the Alicorn Amulet really helped in that regard.]]

[[folder:Everfree Forest]]

A strange forest next to Ponyville in which the plants and animals take care of themselves, without needing pony caretakers. Location of the ancient Castle of the Alicorn Sisters.

!!The Sirens
!!!Three sirens (names unknown) who live in the Everfree Forest. Surprisingly pleasant for beings who want to lure ponies into a river so that they can drown, and then eat them.
* AffablyEvil
* EnthrallingSiren: Well, duh.
* PunchClockVillain: Only trying to get some lunch out of ponies.
* TheCameo: Make a brief return in ''Title Match''
* [[ThoseTwoGuys Those Three Villains]]

An urban city.

!!Castor Cut
!!!Unicorn. Dinky Doo and and Amethyst Star's father. Cheated on his wife, May Bell, with Ditzy Doo (which is how Dinky was born).

* YourCheatingHeart: Had the gall to cheat on his wife ''right in front of her and his daughter''.

!!Manetelli and Mareio Luca
!!!Two mafiosi who are abducted by [[spoiler: Volk's]] group and almost killed.
* AssholeVictim: To the point where Raindrops is genuinely tempted to just let them die.
* DeathTrap
* DirtyCoward
* EnemyMine: Subverted. Despite [[spoiler: Volk's]] group trying to kill both them and Max, they not only skip out on helping Max against them, but Manetelli actually tries to flee entirely.
* ISurrenderSuckers: Manetelli allows Max to save his life so that he can be taken back to jail, then pulls a knife and tries to flee arrest. Fortunately, Max's backup was waiting outside.
* KarmicDeath: They both almost get one from [[spoiler: Volk's]] group, and Mareio additionally almost gets one from Raindrops.

!!May Bell
!!!Unicorn. Castor Cut's ex-wife and Amethyst Star's mother. Divorced Castor Cut after his affair with Ditzy was revealed.

[[folder:Griffin Kingdoms]]

The largest nation on the continent, and the most powerful except for Equestria itself. The Kingdoms are most a loose collection of feudal fiefs ruled by local warlords, but the griffins can and will align into a more cohesive union when circumstances dictate.
* FantasyCounterpartCulture: To the Holy Roman Empire and Germany, and also Medieval Ireland to an extent. The Griffin language is largely shown to be German, although West Griffin is described as sounding like Russian instead. The Griffins elect High Kings during crises but for the most part are very independent, with individual kingdoms vying for power against once another.

!!!Griffin, Rainbow Dash's friend. A jerk with a heart of more jerkiness and a bad influence on Rainbow Dash.
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: As briefly explained by Trixie during her plan to force Gilda to leave town, supposedly griffin culture works this way (though it's more about posturing than actual violence) and is sort of what Gilda is appealing to.
* BlatantLies: Gilda is making patent abuse of cultural dissonance to weasel out of a well deserved beating while contently forgetting to mention that by griffin standards any 'friendship' would place her as clearly subservient to Raindrops.
* TheBusCameBack: Shows up again in ''The Voice of The Sun'' when Raindrops and Lyra visit the Griffin Kingdoms.
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Getting into a fight with Raindrops convinced Gilda that "Dropsy" was a really good friend... nopony's really sure how that happened.
** Stands up for Raindrops and Lyra in ''The Voice Of The Sun'', providing them with useful information as well as support in both the court and the dueling arena.
* DeliberateValuesDissonance: Clashing between pony and griffin culture is supposed to be at least partly the reason for her bad behaviors and attitude, though WordOfGod has it she's still something of a hooligan even by griffin standards as well.
* FantasticRacism: She makes it rather apparent that as a rule she has no respect for ponies, even going so far as to say, ''"All ponies look the same to me, each as lame as the next,"'' although she's quick to point out that Rainbow Dash is the [[SomeofMyBestFriendsAreX exception]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: In ''The Voice of the Sun'', Gilda may be obnoxious and rough around the edges, but becomes determined to help Lyra and Raindrops to the extent she threatens to beat up every griffon she has to until they help.
* WorthyOpponent: She views Raindrops as such, though more so out of fear than respect.

!!King Garvill
!!!King of one of the outer kingdoms, specifically the one the Equestrian embassy lies in

* DeathGlare: When one particularly foolish griffon says he had declared Raindrops part of his court, allowing her to take part in duels, Garvill glowers him into silence.
* SinsOfTheFather: Is still pretty pissed about Equestria's involvement in his uncle's coup, and their refusal to help in the name of politics. He does, at least, forgive Twilight for her grandmother's involvement, but he's still frosty toward Luna.

[[folder: Neigh Orleans]]
Trixie's hometown.

!!! Zebra/pony hybrid who bears a grudge against Trixie for reporting on his criminal brother to the police.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: When he loses, he is approached by Zecora and offered a position at Corona's side. He refuses on the grounds that although he dislikes Luna's choice of apprentices, she is still a fair and competent ruler and that although he is a lawbreaker, he draws the line at treason.
* IrrationalHatred: Hates Trixie for turning his brother in for a robbery he tried to commit. The rest of the family believes in a karma-like concept, so they don't outright hate her though. He also seems to associate that hate with her friends.
** After the Mayor kicks him out of town, he summons monsters to attack Ponyville.
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: Part of what makes him a NotSoHarmlessVillain is the fact that with Voodoo, it's often hard to tell how much of it is actual power and how much is simply smoke and mirrors, or altered Poison Joke. Trixie says he could still be a threat if only about a tenth of what he did had any actual power to it.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Despite the below, he is skilled in Voodoo that Trixie knows is not to be taken lightly and has affected a certain number of characters negatively.
* SmallNameBigEgo: Believes himself to be Trixie's Nemesis. Trixie just thinks he's a pest.
* SmugSnake
* SquishyWizard: Does not appear to be very strong, and Mayor Mare punches him out at one point.
* VillainSong: Sings a song taken almost ''word for word'' from ''WesternAnimation/{{Anastasia}}'' when summoning monsters to attack Ponyville. When it's over, he quickly leaves because he doesn't know where the chorus came from.

A djinn, and former servant to the Caliph of Naqah.

* DishingOutDirt: Her speciality.
* {{Jerkass}}: She's pissed off at Yangin for not bothering to look for her in the last fifteen hundred years. [[spoiler:And then she goes and hands her over to Kindle, making no effort to save her and obstructing the Bearers' attempts to do the same.]]
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler:After screwing over her sister, letting Kindle walk off with her in tow, she binds the Bearers just long enough for her to get away.]]
* LoopholeAbuse: She's bound by her order to do everything she can to protect the Army of Smoke and Fire. But if, say, someone just happened to break it, well...

!!Emir Ofkeli Grev

* AffablyEvil: A jerk he may be, but he's still very polite on meeting the Element Bearers.
* ArcVillain: Its his actions in "Chasing Smoke" that bring the Element Bearers to Naqah.
* TheFundamentalist: He disagreed with the Sultan's attempted reforms, but it was the attempts to reform Naqah's education systems that pushed him over the edge into outright rebellion.

!!Parlac Kilic

* FirstNameBasis: After his introduction, he's generally just referred to as Parlac.

!!Sultan Pinric

* TheGoodKing: Or sultan, in his case. He's trying to institute reforms to make things better for his subjects, specifically the non-camels among them

* {{Determinator}}: She snuck out of her house and went all the way to Ponyville by herself to ask Trixie for help.
* TakingTheBullet: [[spoiler:Jumps in front of a magically charged lightning bolt for Trixie. Fortunately, she manages to survive.]]

!!!Bushel's mother

* StrongFamilyResemblance: His son Sawdust looks like a younger him. [[spoiler:And a few of his traits get passed on through his daughter Picturesque.]]

!!!Unicorn, Sawblade's son, who replaced him after Trixie got him removed

* AFatherToHisMen: Is very protective of his Lumber Guild ponies, and is concerned that the end result of ''Oaton'''s events would put them out of a job.
* HeroicSacrifice: While not fatal, he [[spoiler:overchannels to dispel the Whisper of Tirek.]]
* MySisterIsOffLimits: [[spoiler:He's more than a little grossed out by the thought of Picturesque and Sheaf doing it with help from magic he'd taught Sheaf.]]
* NiceHat: Wears the typical bowler hat of a Lumber Guild worker.
* VisionaryVillain: Visionary jerk, at best, really, but his end game [[spoiler:is to make Oaton a major city.]]

!!!Unicorn mayor of Oaton, Picturesque's husband and Bushel's father

* MotiveDecay: He started off sharing Sawdust's desire to modernise Oaton, but then Bushel came along, and he completely forgot all about that in favour of Oaton's isolationism.
* PowerPerversionPotential: Used sound-blocking magic to hide him and Picturesque going at it from [[spoiler:Sawblade]]
* ReligionOfEvil: Oaton was founded by Tirek cultists looking for a place to hide from Luna. Over the years, this has been forgotten, leaving behind nothing more than a vague tradition of isolationism.
* WeUsedToBeFriends: [[spoiler:With Sawdust.]]

!!Kenkuro Kazeyama
Elderly tengu mentor to Dao Ming

* BigEater
* DirtyOldMan: He got in to some trouble before ''Contest of Champions'' for convincing some temple priestesses to do some very naughty things with him.

!!Fu Ling
Current empress of the Shouma.

* AbusiveParents: She is utterly ''horrific'' to Dao Ming, having refused to ever once show her a single ounce of motherly affection.
* {{Jerkass}}: She almost seems to take delight in finding new ways to be an awful parent to Dao Ming, including forcing her to cast the dangerous magic to get her ship to the contest on her own, not saying a word to her after, and then insulting her own kid by assigning Kenkuro to take part in the contest with her, when in every occasion prior the Shouma have only had ''one'' champion. Of course, she's also rude and aloof to everyone else, as well. Dao just gets it worst.
** It's stated that she believes this is necessary to shape Dao Ming into a worthy heir.
* PetTheDog: For what little it's worth, she did adopt Tomoko, and before Dao was born named her the imperial heir.

!!Dao Ming
Daughter of the current empress, a highly skilled mage with some serious mommy issues.

* BeneathTheMask: Dao very rarely shows anyone her softer side.
* {{Expy}}: Basically, a kirin version of the show's Twilight Sparkle, if Celestia was an emotionally abusive cow.
* {{Jerkass}}: She can be polite towards those she considers of equal status. Those she ''doesn't'' (read: anyone not royal) on the other hand, she'll sneer and condescend at.
* {{Tsundere}}: Non-romantic version, with her mentor.
* WellDoneSonGuy: She pushes herself to dangerous extremes trying to prove to mom that she's worth being the imperial heir. So far, no luck, with only nearly killing herself and Trixie earning little more than vague approval.

Adopted daughter of Empress Fu Ling

* HappilyAdopted: By the Empress. She's considered and treated as much a blood relative by the Empress and her child.
* SweetTooth: Takes a keen interest in [=BonBon's=] bubblegum.

[[folder: Stalliongrad]]
A major industrial city in Rushia, and the northernmost major city in Equestria.

!!Archduke Bobbing Fisher
See under Night Court of Luna: Royalty and Nobility

!!!Head of security for Fisher Mining. [[spoiler: Recruited for Volk's conspiracy]]
* TheBigGuy: And how.
* TheBrute: Cheerilee can barely damage him, and even Raindrops doesn't want to go hoof-to-hoof with him. She only beats him because the arena is rigged with bombs that he's not smart enough to dodge.
* DumbMuscle
* EnfanteTerrible: While he is an adult, he has the mind of a child
* HuskyRusskie
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong
* PsychopathicManchild: Can come off this way, although he's ''so'' childlike he genuinely doesn't understand what he's doing is wrong.
* ThrowDownTheBomblet: In addition to being one of the strongest non-alicorn characters in the Lunaverse, he's also got a mortar spell that was strong enough to annihilate heavy-duty train rail.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Insofar as he's capable of having intentions, he seems to genuinely think that he's doing the right thing by getting rid of the 'bad' ponies.

!!Hirsute Lord
!!!Lord Mayor of Stalliongrad.

!!!Head of Fisher Security. Big sister of Goliath
* AlwaysABiggerFish: Juggernaut is apparently even bigger and tougher than Goliath.
* HuskyRusskie
* TheJuggernaut: Well, duh.
* MotherRussiaMakesYouStrong

!!Svelte Lord
!!!Representative of the Night Court to Stalliongrad. Married to Archduke Fisher. Sister of Hirsute Lord.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: WordOfGod has implied that she doesn't get along with her Fisher (who would sacrifice ponies for the greater good) or her brother (who is so obsessed with his alleged 'royal' ancestry that he cares little about anything else.)

[[folder:Treasure City]]
A village where Vicereine Puissance keeps most of her warehouses and treasuries. One such treasury, the Vault, holds a collection of rare and unusual ponies.

!!!Null pony. A quiet and loving physician.
* AntiMagic: All null ponies are immune to unicorn magic.

!!Bounty Beaux Baker
!!!4-winged pegasus. A disciplined and stern baker.

!!!Half-windigo, half-pegasus foal. Abandoned by relatives when his mother was in the hospital, he's found refuge in the Vault.
* [[AnIcePerson An Ice Pony]]: His body is partially formed of ice, including an eye, a wing, two legs, and part of his tail.

!!!Earth pony-unicorn hybrid. A silly and energetic scientist.

!!Silver Sculptress
!!!Pegasus-unicorn hybrid. A hard-working and dedicated artist.

!Stream Dreams
!!!Sea pony. A refined and regal crown princess who was deposed in a coup

!!TIM (real name Titan Invincibleus Monarch)
!!!Descendant of King Sombra. An irreverent and wise-cracking novelist who enjoys the occasional prank.
* SuperSmoke: His inherited power from Sombra.

A mysterious city far removed from Equestria in which the uintatherium live.

!!!Member of Ritter's archeology team
* MotorMouth
* PluckyGirl

* TheJeeves: To the Watcher.

!!!Member of Ritter's archeology team.
* AndIMustScream: For a short while, anyways.
* MauveShirt

!!Dr. Ritter
!!!Archeologist and treasure hunter who enters the Lost City in search of loot.
* AdventurerArchaeologist
* GraveRobbing
* {{Greed}}
* RefugeInAudacity: One of the first things he does is try and get the Princesses to sign forms giving him legal rights to all discoveries in Zhalast-Zin, [[spoiler:so they won't suspect what he's really after.]]
* {{Retcon}} / WhatCouldHaveBeen: Was originally [[JustForFun/DaringDo Dr. Caballeron]], but when he introduced himself towards the end of Chapter 2 of ''Past Remnants'', the Quorum objected, not wanting to touch the question whether the books were [[FictionAsCoverup real]] or [[WriteWhoYouKnow not]], so his name was changed.

!!The Watcher
!!!A Saurian Emperor who led his people in combat against the alicorns. Currently protects the uintatherium.
* AlterKocker: Really comes across as an elderly Yiddish man in his conversations with Celestia and Luna, being more concerned with why they never came to visit him more than anything else.
* AndManGrewProud: He shows Lyra the story of what happened to wipe out the Saurian race.
* BreakTheHaughty: The extinction of his people and the subsequent period of isolation were this for him, finally allowing him to see just how wrong his actions were.
* CompositeCharacter: A mixture between Azala, leader of the Reptiles from Chrono Trigger and Emperor Xin, founder of the Thassalonian Empire from the Pathfinder campaign setting of Golarian.
* EyeScream: [[spoiler:A just-escaped Discord blinds him, to prevent him seeing what's about to happen...]]
* GodEmperor: Treated as such while his people were alive.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: Several millennia stuck on his own in his palace made him go quite mad, to the extent he tried to goad Luna into killing him.
* LookOnMyWorksYeMightyAndDespair: In order to restore morale after his forces lost to the alicorns time and time again, he attempted to divert a comet closer to their capital. The resulting cataclysm killed so many Saurians that they soon went extinct.
* {{Pride}}: His major sin.
* SealedBadassInACan: Kerzog seized control after the incident with the comet, and had him sealed inside his own palace. Even after several millennia, the Watcher has been unable to break the enchantments.
* TheWatcher: Well, duh.

[[folder:Corona and her Forces]]
!!!Alicorn. The Tyrant Sun. Wants to take over Equestria, and is the single most dangerous threat to Equestria as a whole that we yet know of. Older sister of Luna. Completely insane, immortal, and even more powerful than Luna. Speaks in early modern English. Real name is Celestia (and demands to be addressed as such).
* AGodAmI
* AntiVillain: Type III.
* BerserkButton: Do not call her Corona, do not treat her disrespectfully, do not blame her for anything, do not dare thinking her rule would be anything but just and righteous, do not mock her speech... [[HairTriggerTemper the list goes on and on]].
* BigDamnHeroes: She makes a dramatic entrance at Tambelon [[spoiler:putting a dent in Bray's smug exterior and smashing apart the force of golems he had. Of course, the Bearers aren't exactly grateful...]]
* TheCaligula
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: When Corona first appeared, she was a mad, ravening psychopath who shouted at the drop of a hat, refused to even entertain the idea she was wrong or listen to any appeals to reason, and was ready and willing to do terrible things to regain her "rightful" throne. As the Lunaverse has progressed, however, Corona has become somewhat more introspective, subtle, and open. She still thinks she's in the right, but is willing to talk and listen to others, make what are (to her) reasoned arguments about why she should rule, and is also actively working towards minimizing the bloodshed and violence that will be required to take the throne.
* CatchPhrase / IAmTheTrope: "I am the SUN!"
* CelibateHero: Well, not "hero" at the moment, but part of the reason Corona is so offended by Cheerilee's flirting at her is because she finds the very idea of a ''peasant'' flirting with her outrageous. Being a thousand years out of touch does that to a pony. She does mention, when discussing Cadence, that she and Luna had tried in the past to have children, to no luck.
* CueTheSun:
** In the first episode of the first season, the sun rising without Luna's intervention is the sign that Corona has escaped.
** At the end of the first episode of the second season, Luna offers to let Celestia raise the sun, and Celestia accepts the offer, providing a sign that Celestia is beginning to recover her mind.
* TheDreaded: It's extremely difficult to grasp just how afraid of her most ponies are.
** When forced to choose between stopping Corona and stopping a necromancer who's already slaughtered an entire civilization, the Elements choose to stop Corona - ''twice'', in the same fic. It backfires both times.
* EnemyMine:
** With the Lunaversesix against Grogar. That's she's even willing to cooperate with them speaks volumes about how much of a threat he is.
** And again with Luna during ''Contest of Champions''.
** And once more during ''Past Remnants''.
* EntertaininglyWrong: Part of the reason she's so distrustful of Luna in the modern day and age was because [[spoiler:Luna had used some of Tirek's power to become Nightmare Moon and fight her. Corona didn't know the Elements of Harmony had purged her of the dark magic when they banished her, and believes up until the Bearers angrily tell on Tambelon her that Luna's still corrupted.]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** The thought of Luna actually working with someone like Grogar horrifies her.
** After Tambelon, she becomes driven to more peaceful methods, and has to put her foot down when Terror Wing and Kindle want to attack Ponyville, and the Bearers, directly.
* EvilIsHammy: Her spouting of threats and demanding ponies to acknowledge her royal sovereignty can be [[LargeHam highly entertaining]], when it's not menacing.
* GoMadFromTheIsolation: As Zecora notes, a thousand years stuck in the sun with only yourself for company wouldn't do anyone any good, let alone somepony who was already insane to begin with.
* HeelRealization: [[spoiler:Partially, after [[YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame Tirek's approval fills her with shame.]] Although she still refuses to admit that she should not be the unchallenged queen of Equestria, she realizes that she has been going about her plans the wrong way and decides to simply overthrow Luna at Canterlot with as little bloodshed as possible.]]
* HoldYourHippogriffs: Expressions like "gone straight to the Sun" are used where a more normal world might use something like "gone to Hell."
* [[spoiler: HopeSpot: For the readers, in the questionably canon story ''I'll See You Soon''. In the last chapter, taking place 20 years in the future, we see a sane, level-headed, restored-to-her-position-as-a-diarch Princess Celestia having a normal (for them) conversation with an adult Dinky Doo.]]
* IGaveMyWord: Insane and poorly tempered though she may be, Celestia is honest. She openly said she wouldn't be the one to break the temporary alliance with the Element Bearers, [[spoiler: and in fact, she doesn't.]]
* KickTheDog: ''A Chance Encounter'' shows Corona at her nastiest and most spiteful, commanding Zecora to ''kill'' Twilight Sparkle, as revenge for Shining Armor taunting her, before amending it to simply capturing her.
* KnightTemplarParent: What she seems to be evolving into. According to her, Luna and the Bearers are now disobedient fillies who need to sit in the corner and let Mommy run things.
* LickedByTheDog: [[spoiler:Is able to persuade the Element of Magic to replenish her reserves on Tambelon.]]
* LightIsNotGood: Her every step causes small flames, her eyes glow with power, her body is suffused with light, her cutie mark is the sun... and she is arguably the greatest threat to Equestria.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast
* MadGod: In the ten minutes since she escapes the sun, she imprisons Luna, takes children hostage, and threatens to murder lots and lots of people if they don't obey her.
* MamaBear: In ''The Return of Tambelon'', the Elements of Harmony realize that what drove her to madness was taking on this attitude toward all of Equestria.
* PetTheDog: At one point during the non-canon ''Nightmares Yet to Come'', she tells Smoke to take the night off, after Kindle insists on staying up well after midnight.
* PhysicalGod
* TheoryTunnelvision: After spending a thousand years in terror of her, the ponies of Equestria find it almost impossible to imagine that she might ''not'' be the epitome of danger and evil.
* Really700YearsOld: Like her younger sister Luna, she has forgotten her exact age beyond "millennia", though the difference in age between Luna and Celestia is less than ten years. [[BrickJoke No word as to whether she looks cute in glasses, though.]]
* RedemptionRejection: Luna offers her sister a chance to start over at the end of ''Longest Night, Longest Day'', but the mare's mind is to far gone to even consider it.
** [[spoiler:Every time they've met since then, Luna keeps on trying, and Celestia keeps on rejecting. However, [[HopeSpot Celestia no longer rejects the notion out of hoof]], and often tries just as hard to convince Luna to see things her way.]]
* SinisterSentientSun: She is the reason all Equestria fears the sun.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: She believes to be the only one capable of protecting Equestria. [[WellIntentionedExtremist Which requires her to take absolute control of everything under the Sun.]]
* WhoWantsToLiveForever: Played with. Corona does not regret being immortal, but as a natural immortal she views ponies as gnats. Far from thinking of them as expendable and unimportant, however, she believes that she is the only one who can protect them from everything that would want to hurt them -- it's ''her'' burden to bear.
** In other words, she doesn't regret her immortality, so much as regret that everypony else ''isn't'' immortal.
* YeOldeButcheredeEnglishe: after being banished to the Sun for a thousand years, her grasp on Equestrian is a bit outdated. She begs to differ on her command of the tongue.
** As of ''The Return of Tambelon'', she has gotten better about this. [[OohMeAccentsSlipping She does tend to slip back into archaic Equestrian when stressed.]]

!! Kindle:
!!! Pegasus stallion. Leader of the Manehatten chapter of the Sun Cult. Overjoyed that his beloved Princess Celestia has come to purge the kingdom of wickedness.
* TheCharmer: Effortlessly manages to get Raindrops squeein within minutes of conversation, [[spoiler:and eventually manages to sleep with her. It wasn't all part of some fiendish plan, he legitimately had feelings for her. But the whole "working for your greatest enemy, whom you despise" is always going to be a romance-killer.]]
* ChurchMilitant: The Sun Cult as a whole owing to its belief that one day, Luna will be punished for overthrowing Celestia.
* DependingOnTheWriter: One that happens in the same story even. During "Voice of the Sun", the early chapters portray him as being capable of making valid, calm and rational points. The later chapters written by [=TalonAndThorn=] make him a bit more prone to mad shouting and ranting.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: Kindle was originally a slightly weird actor from Manehatten with a Celestia obsession. After Corona's return, he's become her chief underling outside of Zecora.
* TheFundamentalist: Kindle himself. His prescription for society's ills is pretty much the same as Corona's: put a power-hungry maniac with a distinct allergy to admitting when she's in the wrong in charge.
* LargeHam: He was an actor, after all. He's prone to dramatically shouting about how great Celestia is.
* LovedINotHonorMore: He loves Raindrops, but his Queen must come first. Which is also why he doesn't reciprocate Smoke's feelings.
* MajorInjuryUnderreaction: During a fight between himself and Lyra, some of his ribs get broken, and possibly more. He tries shrugging it off until he gets back to his Queen, before passing out.
* PlayingWithFire: Thanks to a boon of Corona's, he can generate small fires by flapping his wings.
* WeCanRuleTogether: [[spoiler:Or, in his case, We Can Serve Celestia While She Rules, which he tries putting forth to Raindrops. Somehow, she's not taken.]]

!!!A unicorn who used to work with Kindle while he was an actor, and followed him into Corona's service because of her crush on him

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: Her feelings for Kindle are obvious to damn near everyone but Kindle himself, who just thinks of her as being like a sister.
* BerserkButton: Insulting her craft. She explodes at Trixie when the mare does so.
* GreenEyedMonster: Becomes psychopathically enraged toward [[spoiler:Raindrops]] after she and Kindle do the deed.

!! Solrathicharon
!!! Blind, aged dragon who wants revenge on Luna for killing most of his family when they tried to invade Equestria shortly after Corona's fall.
* ArtifactOfDoom: [[spoiler:He has some Salamanders steal the Rainbow of Darkness.]]
* BadassGrandpa: Has gone up against Luna twice and has survived both times, which is nothing short of astonishing.
* BreathWeapon: In addition to his dragonfire, [[spoiler: he gains the ability to vomit pure liquid Evil after unwittingly swallowing the Rainbow of Darkness]].
* CurbstompBattle: Against another dragon, Sjach, in ''The Great Dragon Coronation''. Sjach was half his age, almost as large, universally regarded by other dragons to be a potential Overlord himself, and not blind or crippled in any way. [[spoiler: There was no point when he was winning against Solrathicharnon.]]
* EyeScream: He became blinded because, while in a mood about Luna killing his family, he stared into the sun for an entire day.
* HandicappedBadass: Despite being almost totally blind, he's strong and cunning enough to harass Luna and get away with it, even if he knows he can't straight-up defeat her.
* LightningBruiser: When he wants to, he can move ''so'' fast he can even take ''Luna'' by surprise.
* ManipulativeBastard: He has some kind of plan for the downfall of Luna. It's slowly beginning to come together throughout Season 2. [[spoiler:It involves stealing the Rainbow of Darkness...]]
* MeaningfulName: His name means "He Who Swore Revenge Against The Sun".
* ThePowerOfHate: Solrath is ''old,'' even by dragon standards. He possibly would have died of old age some time ago, but his sheer hatred for Luna keeps him going.
* RevengeMyopia: He doesn't care that his family fired the metaphorical first shot, [[spoiler:and arguably doesn't even care about their deaths at all anymore]]. He wants vengeance on Luna for the [[SarcasmMode heinous crime]] of refusing to lie down and die, [[spoiler:and has privately admitted to himself that if doing so required the death of every single dragon in the world to pull off, it would be a price worth paying]].

!!!See The Dragon's Forge

!!!Zebra. Skilled potion-maker and alchemist, also has the gift of prophecy, though how exact is unknown. Always speaks in rhyme. Loyal to Corona.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo: The primary reason that she's been working for Corona, which includes somehow ''RELEASING'' her, is because a prophecy said she would. Beyond the great big crisis, she doesn't know what's going to happen.
-->'''Lyra''': Why? Why did you betray us in the Everfree Forest? The sirens, the poison joke... ''why?''
-->'''Zecora''': There are matters larger than you or I, that dictate with whom Zecora allies.
-->'''Lyra''': What’s that supposed to mean?
-->'''Zecora''': When prophecy calls to you by name, it is unwise to ignore its claim.
* DependingOnTheWriter: Most fics depict Zecora as being antagonistic, but not hostile. ''A Chance Encounter'' has her treat Spike as little more than a slave to Corona's will, regardless of his own opinions on the matter.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Her former friends among the zebra are more than a little annoyed at the damage Zecora's actions have done to their reputation, in addition to just generally seeing her as a stubborn, headstrong sort.
* NeverHeardThatOneBefore: Doesn't bother making a pithy comment when Lyra asks her if she has a rhyme for "orange".
* RhymesOnADime: It even applies to her writing.
* [[{{Seers}} Seer]]: [[spoiler: At least claims to have foreseen the return of Corona, and arrived to Equestria as her servant.]]
** She also predicts the return of Tambelon, and claims [[spoiler:to have freed Corona to prevent something worse.]]
* SixthRanger: worked as a guide for the main six through the Everfree Forest.
** SixthRangerTraitor: ... and was quick to inform Corona of their plans, as she is a Sun worshiper.
* SurveillanceAsThePlotDemands: Several season 2 fics show her popping up around Ponyville after the latest disaster.
* SycophanticServant: a mix of this and BeleagueredAssistant, as she's genuinely loyal and efficient servant, yet has to work through constantly butt-kissing her arrogant and bad-tempered boss.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: She doesn't personally have anything against ponykind. She just has to keep her destiny to serve Corona in mind.

!!!A recruit of Corona's from the griffon tribes.

* {{Determinator}}: As Gilda notes, he always accepted every honor duel with his brother, regardless of how hopelessly outmatched he was. She's not certain whether he was determined, or just plain stupid.
* TheDragon: He's the muscle of Corona's forces.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: One of the boons Corona gave him. Good if you're not much of a fighter, not so good if you're from a culture that considers scars a sign of honor... and the magic heals ''all'' of them.
* {{Narm}}: In-universe, his new name's gotten more than one being snickering at him.
* NoIndoorVoice: During "Voice of the Sun", he's near-constantly bellowing everything. Even Kindle thinks it's too much.
* WeaksauceWeakness: Corona's blessing allows him to recover from just about any injury in a few seconds, but being based on fire magic, it doesn't work if he gets wet.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Part of the reason he joined Corona was because dad was an ass to him, and he wanted to show he was a fighter.

!!!A mechanical Minotaur golem powered by magic. Invented by Grinding Gears, it quickly went on a rampage around the Everfree Forest until it was dismantled by Trixie and her friends. Zecora recovered its head and plans to rebuild it to serve Corona.
* AIIsACrapshoot: It's an artificial being whose first act was to go on a murderous rampage for basically no reason. Granted, its creator was a moron, but that's not really an excuse.
* ALoadOfBull: Modeled after a Minotaur.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: Golems are notorious for twisting even the simplest and most mundane of orders to ensure a violent and destructive outcome. To elaborate, Hostile's sole order was to "Live"; a directive it interpreted as "pulverize anything and everything that I wish."
* AnArmAndALeg: Lost both of its arms during its first fight with Big Mac. Since they were magic too, they quickly reattached themselves to it.
* BullSeeingRed: Thanks to the heavy beating Big Mac gave it, it has a particularly violent reaction whenever something red comes into view.

!!Bocogu Yangin
!!! A sentient greater jinn from the Naquahn Caliphate. [[spoiler: Enslaved by Cheerilee to guide the party to the Army Of Smoke And Fire. Later captured by Kindle and brought to Corona, who offered her friendship.]]

* AmuletOfDependency: Her bound item, an anklet with three gems set into it. It acts as a focus for the magic that holds her together, but also allows the wearer to control her.
* CurbStompBattle: Got into a fight with a (very) drunk Princess Luna a thousand years ago, when the alicorn demanded she restore Celestia's mind, something Yangin couldn't do. Even while (very) drunk, Luna was too strong for the djinn, who only got away with giving her a black eye.
* DeadpanSnarker: She's very sarcastic, pretty much all the time.
* ElementalEmbodiment: Unlike most jinn, she can command all four elements, though she's best with fire and earth.
* FaceHeelTurn: Maybe. When Kindle took her bound item to Corona, Celestia gave it to Yangin, and ''asked'' Yangin to join her. We don't see whether she took the offer.
* MeaningfulName: Her name translates as "choking fire".
* WhatTheHellHero: Cheerilee using her bound item to control her stirred up a huge amount of controversy, both in and out of the story.

[[folder: Other Monsters]]

!! The Dark & Omnipotent Antithesis
!!!An extremely powerful and psychotic alicorn pony who is devoted to murdering both Twilight and Trixie in ''Crisis on Two Equestrias''.

* AntiMagic: She can negate and shut down magic, including creating a field over the entire Everfree Forest to stop teleportation. Also has a double meaning, since [[spoiler:Friendship is Magic in the MLP universe, and thus Antithesis is much the embodiment of anti-magic along with anti-friendship.]]
* AxCrazy: When she finds out there's two Trixies and two Twilights, she's initially confused, then grows to excited because that means there's more of them to kill, and eagerly asks if there's more yet.
* CardCarryingVillain:
-->'''Antithesis:''' Am I evil just because I want to kill you? Am I evil just because I would rather tear you limb from limb and watch you bleed out one at a time, and I’m genuinely sad I won’t be able to? Am I evil just because after I’m done here I’m going to go to Ponyville and slaughter everypony you four have ever loved out of pure spite?! \\
'''Twilight:''' Yes! \\
'''Antithesis:''' ({{beat}}) Excellent! I ''like'' knowing my place in the world! So few ponies do.
* CombatSadomasochist: She gets a buzz out of feeling and / or causing pain.
* DissonantSerenity: [[spoiler: When finally dying, oddly enough.]]
* EvilCounterpart: To Twilight and Trixie [[spoiler:as well as the Element of Magic itself]].
* ForTheEvulz: Why she wants to kill the Twilights and Trixies from both the Lunaverse and Celestiaverse.
* FusionDance: [[spoiler:Takes elements of both Twilight and Trixie for her physical appearance, down to her cutie mark being a combination of theirs.]]
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: She has no goal or personality beyond being a psychotic pony that wants to go on a murderous rampage, starting with Twilight and Trixie. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]], though, in that [[spoiler:she is literally created out of the animosity between the two bearers of the Element of Magic and their interdimensional counterparts, and hasn't even existed long enough to start forming any other motivation]].
* HasTwoMommies: [[spoiler:Four, actually. The Twilights and Trixies from both the Lunaverse and the Maneverse.]]
* HumanoidAbomination: [[spoiler:She isn't actually a pony at all, and is the first to admit it.]]
* MadeOfEvil: [[spoiler:Quite literally made out of distilled hatred and dislike.]]
* MeaningfulRename: Her first choice of name was "Twixie". She quickly ditched it after getting a bad reaction from the Twilights and Trixies.
* MesACrowd: She displays the ability to split herself into multiple bodies, though with nowhere near the ease Luna has. It apparently feels painful merging again, akin to pins and needles.
* PowerOfTheVoid: Both Trixies note she technically doesn't cast magic, she rips magical holes in existence and spells rush out through them. Her anti-magic spheres are experienced by wrapping the victim in nothingness.
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler: She doesn't, but while dying she states that her one regret is that she didn't take at least one Twilight or one Trixie with her.]]
* WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds: Completely averted at her own instance. She regrets nothing she's done, and would have done worse if she could.
** Said aversion is enforced by WordOfGod: Anyone who feels sympathy for her is, at best, horribly misguided.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: [[spoiler: Is created by the shattering of the Element of Magic, meaning that she's only a few hours old at most when she first meets her "mothers".]]

!! Bray:
!!! Tamberlaan donkey prince. Made a deal to Grogar to kill his father, siblings and ponies to become king of Tambelon.

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: A few glimpses of Tambelon before what Grogar did show Bray wasn't at all liked by his subjects. That might have something to do with his winning personality.
* AbsoluteXenophobe: Wanted to kill Tamberlaan ponies in order to rule Tambelon.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Returns to life after Grogar is defeated]].
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: First he betrays his family, the rulers of Tambelon, to Grogar. The he plans to betray Grogar to take Tambelon for himself. [[spoiler:He gets a chance to enact the second, too, and takes it. It...doesn't work out.]]
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler:Gets his soul ripped out by the newly immortal Grogar. ''Ouch''.]] [[spoiler:[[BackFromTheDead He gets better...]] [[FateWorseThanDeath not that it helps him much.]]]]
* DirtyCoward: Completely okay with backstabbing, betrayal, and running away.
* FantasticRacism: Among his other failings, he's also specist, frequently referring to the Bearers as "short eared nags".
* FateWorseThanDeath: [[spoiler:He comes back to life on Tambelon after Grogar is defeated, but also after everyone else has left. His means of casting spells, however, was destroyed, and his only way to re-create it was accidentally teleported off of the island. Thus, he is trapped on an overgrown forested island save for a ruined city, with no ability to escape.]]
* HateSink: It is pretty impressive than even compared to his boss, who murdered an entire civilisation in an instant, Bray is still more unpleasant and unlikeable by a mile. Probably because he deliberately brought Grogar to Tambelon to kill his siblings.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:His own actions screw him over and trap him on Tambelon with no magic or way of getting off the island]].
* ItsAllAboutMe: He brought Grogar to Tambelon to kill his parents, brother and sisters just so he could be king. When Grogar killed pretty much everyone in Tambelon, he was outraged no because of the whole "mass murder" thing, but more because Grogar killed ''his'' subjects.
* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: [[spoiler:Twice. First killed by Grogar, ''then'' after coming back to life, finds himself trapped in the ruins of the kingdom he helped destroy.]]
* RoyalBrat
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Three-fold. He brought Grogar to Tambelon, allowing him to kill the Tamberlaan. He killed Grogar, triggering the final step in the ram's lich transformation. And it was his misfired spell that teleported the world's biggest collection of arcane knowledge to Luna-knows-where.
* SmugSnake: Bray has a healthy opinion of himself, and looks down on everyone who isn't him. He's convinced that with the magical knowledge contained within Spellhold he'd be able to form a mighty army, and any and all problem he might face, like say a pair of angry alicorns, will be easily dealt with. [[spoiler:It's delicious to watch his breakdown when he comes back to life, and realises than an entire life of being waited on and served means he has ''no'' idea how to actually fend for himself.]]
* TheStarscream: Twice, even: he's the one who brought Grogar to Tambelon in the first place, so that Grogar could kill Bray's father and siblings so that he could be King. Nowadays, he wants to overthrow Grogar so that he can rule Tambelon (presumably to have access to its vast libraries of magic or something).
* UnwittingPawn: [[spoiler:Manipulated by Grogar into granting him immortality.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler:Double subverted. Once Grogar gets his soul back, he informs Bray that he intends to use him as the final sacrifice in Grogar's plan to achieve immortality. The ensuing fight ends with Bray [[DisneyVillainDeath chucking Grogar off of a balcony]]. The double subversion comes when Grogar survives, reveals that someone had to kill him in order to turn him into a lich, and ''then'' kills Bray.]]
* WeakButSkilled: His approach to magic.

!!! The Spirit of Chaos. Originally contained in the Tree of Harmony's EvilCounterpart, the Tree of Discord, he was freed by the misguided efforts of an unknown creature and subsequently took the form of a deranged parody of his liberator. Despite having been defeated and contained by Celestia and Luna, he nonetheless holds a sizable presence in the story due to cultists and his own "descendants" trying to either free him or continue where he left off.
* CardboardPrison: The Maneverse version of Celestia believes that Discord will always render whatever prison he is in as one of these. If it's time for him to escape, then he will escape no matter the measures in place.
** It says something about the power that he has that his statue was imprisoned in concrete, is under eight different layers of magical wards, and said block of concrete has been buried, and yet both Lunaverse Luna and Maneverse Celestia ''still'' consider it this.
* TheDreaded: He hasn't walked the land in millenia, but the very thought of him gives both Luna and the mad Corona pause.
* EldritchAbomination
* EndOfAnEra: Singlehandedly ended what was considered by many to be Equestria's Golden Age, bringing an end to over three thousand years of prosperity and heralding a much darker and more treacherous era.
* EntropyAndChaosMagic: The living incarnation of the power of Discord.
* EvilCounterpart: The Lunaverse version of Discord is pointedly the ArchEnemy of the very concept of Harmony, and the Tree specifically.
* EvilKnockoff: His physical form was modeled after the individual that freed him. Given the patchwork of creature parts that make up his body, it's hard to tell what that poor sap actually was.
* TheGhost: Mentioned many times throughout the Lunaverse's run, including the first episode. [[spoiler:He doesn't appear until the tail-end of Season 2.]]
* TheJuggernaut: One of the Alicorn Sisters is enough to best most foes and together their raw might and prowess were enough to vanquish every threat that came their way. Their need to bolster their abilities with the Elements of Harmony to face him, and the fact that he's the only menace that required this extraordinary measure on their part says a lot about how powerful he was.
** As WordOfGod puts it:
-->'''[=RainbowDoubleDash=]:''' Within the context of the Lunaverse, there is ''nothing'' beyond Discord and the Elements; they're the top-tier movers and shakers... On a scale of 1 to 10, Discord is ''the guy making the chart'', completely outside any kind of power rating...And the Elements of Harmony are even ''stronger'', but limited by the fact that they have no (discernible) independent will of their own and so must be manipulated by (comparatively, even alicorns count for this purpose) mortal beings, who have mortal minds and mortal limitations on what the Elements can do.
* MadGod: Powerful enough to effortlessly overpower even the alicorns... and completely and utterly insane.

!! Grogar:
!!! Demon Ram[[spoiler:/Lich]]. Committed mass genocide to the Tamberlaan 2,000 years ago as part of a ritual to gain immortality.
* AGodAmI: Blatantly claims to be a god [[spoiler:during his VillainousBreakdown. The Luna-6 are quick to [[KilledOffForReal correct this delusion.]]]]
* TheArchmage: Powerful enough to have challenge Luna and Celestia together two thousand years ago. He lost, but he apparently put up a Hell of a fight. Celestia and Luna have both acknowledged him as likely being the most powerful mortal spellcaster to have ever lived, with only Starswirl the Bearded providing any competition.
* DeadpanSnarker: It's very deadpan, and most of it is directed at Bray. For example, a glimpse of what happened just after he killed near-everyone on Tambelon has him noting that a few beings survived and fled, and that Bray could try and ingratiate himself to them.
* DealWithTheDevil: Traded his soul to Tirek in exchange for knowledge to help him gain immortality. [[spoiler:He was disappointed to find out that the ritual he had planned ''required'' him to still have his soul.]]
* EvilOverlord: Intimidating fortress in a ruined city? Check. Plan to take over/kill the world? Check. Hordes upon hordes of faceless goons? Check. Fearful sinister second-in-command at his beck and call? Check. Dark magic? Check. The only things he's missing are the quirky miniboss squad, black wardrobe (but then, his fur is soot-gray), and powerful but vulnerable MacGuffin.
* EvilOverlordList: Actually follows it pretty closely, given that he has limited resources and time to work with and enemies that have no interest in negotiating with him. He skips straight to trying to kill the L6, doesn't pontificate about his plans, takes steps to protect himself, and always tries to send overwhelming odds against his enemies. The one exception is his mistreatment of Bray, [[spoiler: but that was only because it formed a fundamental part of his plan.]]
** [[spoiler: Notably, however, once he becomes a lich, he ''stops'' following the Evil Overlord list, perhaps because he thinks he doesn't need it anymore. It doesn't end well for him, right up to his death being nearly instant after exclaiming "this is impossible! I am a god!"]]
* FatalFlaw: Bray considers Grogar's impatience to be his biggest weakness.
* IronicEcho: [[spoiler:Berates Bray before killing him that Bray's goals were always so small compared to Grogar's. Later, though, Luna says that ''Grogar's'' goals are so small compared to most of the monsters ''she's'' fought.]]
* KilledOffForReal
* LivingForeverIsAwesome: Grogar certainly seems to think so, and achieving immortality is his ultimate goal throughout The Return of Tambelon. [[spoiler:And as of Chapter 10, he's pulled it off.]]
* OurLichesAreDifferent
* TheNecromancer: His power seems to derive from stolen life-force, which he can then use to animate golems. After slaughtering all of Tambelon, he has a lot of life-force to work with.
* NighInvulnerable: Already very hard to kill as a lich, but on Tambelon he can't be stopped by anything short of the Elements.
* PlaceOfPower: The sheer number of people he killed on Tambelon created a zone of necromantic energy that augmented his lich transformation.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: [[spoiler: Victim of one from Luna, who notes that he's hardly the first monster that she's ever fought, and he's not even the first one to seek nor even to ''gain'' immortality. He's just the only one who's never had any goal beyond that. For all his power and intelligence, his goals and desires were just so ''[[IronicEcho small.]]'']]
* RedEyesTakeWarning: On account of his not having a soul anymore. [[spoiler:They turn back to green when he gets it back.]]
* RuleOfThree: "The Return of Tambelon" details the third time his prison failed over the centuries.
* UnPerson: He is described by Luna that he had done so many atrocities that he had to be erased in history. This is also to deny him the satisfaction of any immortality that he desired, including from being remembered.
* VictoryByEndurance: How he plans to defeat Luna and Celestia. Both of them are much better fighters than he is, and either of them has more offensive power, but between his lich transformation and the vast well of necromantic power he created by killing all the Tamberlaan, he is basically indestructible and tireless. He can fight for weeks if he has to. The alicorns can't.
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:Just before his death.]]
* YourSoulIsMine: See the details of his DealWithTheDevil. [[spoiler:And in order to pull off the ritual that would turn him into a lich, he forcibly tool his soul ''back'' from Tirek when he got the chance. As a lich, he's able to take the soul of anyone against their will, which even the demonic Tirek can't do.]]

!!Lord Kerzog
!!!An ancient Saurian warlord who cheated death by means of a phylactery.
* AndIMustScream: Not only is it his punishment of choice for minions he no longer needs, [[spoiler:his former emperor included]], but he winds up in this state after his final defeat.
* BackFromTheDead
* ExactWords: Promissed Ritter the weight of his teammates in gold for helping him to regain his golem body. He turns those teammates into gold.
* {{Golem}}: His new form upon resurrection.
* OmnicidalManiac
* PerpetualMotionMonster
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Disposes of Ritter's team as soon as he's restored.

!!!An EldritchAbomination from the dawn of time that slept in the deepest bottom of the oceans. Used to rule the seas with terror.

* EldritchAbomination
* PowerOfHate: His power and magic are mostly ''pure hatred''.
* SealedEvilInACan: A lance was used to imprison him in a perpetual sleep.
* {{Telepathy}}: His way of communication.

!!The Windigo
!!!Ice Heart's father. He reappears in Season 2, looking for his son. Seems to communicate via telepathic images.

!!!A demon responsible for causing widespread chaos in Equestria until Celestia and Luna banished him to Tartarus.

* ArtifactOfDoom: The Rainbow of Darkness is his, [[spoiler: until Solrathicharnon has it stolen and takes it as his own.]]
* BreakTheBadass: [[spoiler:Luna stole some of his power to become Nightmare Moon. A thousand years later, he's in incredibly poor shape, and utterly horrified at being dragged out of Tartarus by Grogar.]]
* TheCorrupter: [[spoiler:Luna states he enjoyed bringing out the worst in others.]]
* CrazyPrepared: [[spoiler:He hid fragments of his soul all over the place, in the hope they'd absorb negative emotions and become whole beings, at which point they would free him. Luna and Celestia thought they'd managed to get them all, but as proven on at least two occasions, they missed a couple.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: [[spoiler:Even as a broken shell of himself, he still manages to get his snark off at Grogar.]]
-->'''''I required one hundred ponies, not ninety nine. I cannot be held responsible for your inability to count.'''''
* TheDevilIsALoser: Tirek is probably one of the more evil characters to appear in the Lunaverse. [[spoiler:But when he shows up in Tambelon, he's had much better days, looking thin, emaciated, and completely loses it at the thought of being dragged out of Tartarus.]]
* TheDreaded: [[spoiler:At the merest hint of his reappearance, Luna tells the ''Wingsong'' to get away, and then prepares to obliterate all of Tambelon, just to prevent his possible escape.]]
* EvilCounterpart: To [[spoiler: Mi Amore Cadenza, due to the circumstances of both her birth and his loss of power. Tirek himself states that Cadenza's soul was forged by the Elements of Harmony themselves to be as unlike him as possible.]]
* EvilSoundsDeep: He speaks in entirely bold font, and his voice is mentioned to "reverberate", [[spoiler:even when he's a broken shell of himself.]]
* FantasticRacism: Grogar mentions he ''hates'' ponies, and has a particular dislike for unicorns.
* GreaterScopeVillain:
** In ''The Hero of Oaton'' and ''The Return of Tambelon''. [[spoiler:Played straight in the former, where a shrine to him is responsible for corrupting Tarnished and almost destroying Oaton, but subverted in the latter, where Grogar summons him, takes his soul back from him, and chucks him back to Tartarus.]]
** Also, hinted to be one for ''Nightmares Yet to Come'', but in what way hasn't been revealed (beyond a bit of poetry at the very beginning, and some of the villains raiding what could be an old temple dedicated to him at a later point).
* HowTheMightyHaveFallen: Grogar calls him on it, but Tirek brushes him off.
-->'''Grogar:''' You have become nothing more than a wretched, pathetic coward.\\
'''Tirek:''' '''''The cowards survive.'''''
* InLoveWithYourCarnage: He regarded Luna and Corona's battle as "beautiful".
* KnowWhenToFoldThem: [[spoiler:To give up one more of the souls he has left would diminish Tirek even further, but he eventually gets "persuaded" to hand Grogar's back to him rather than stay in Tambelon and deal with Luna.]]
* MadeOfEvil: To the point where Corona believes that he is more malignant than Discord, even if not as powerful.
* PhysicalGod: At the height of his power, he was roughly equal to Celestia in terms of ability and might. [[spoiler:These days...less so.]]
* ReligionOfEvil: The ghuls of Naqah worship him as T'irek, father of all darkness. [[spoiler:Oaton was also founded by some worshippers of his.]]
* SealedEvilInACan: [[spoiler:He was sealed away in Tartarus long ago. Not to mention those several fragments of his soul lying around the world.]]
* TryToFitThatOnABusinessCard: Lord of the Midnight Castle, the Shadow in the Soul, the Tyrant in the Pit, the Liar and the Thief, and the Bringer of the Night That Never Ends. A non-canon fic adds "Lord of All Sorrows".
* YourApprovalFillsMeWithShame: To [[spoiler:Corona. Him praising her makes her have a partial HeelRealization and decide to simply usurp Luna in Canterlot rather than conquer all of Equestria by force.]]

[[folder:The Elements of Failmony]]
A group of supposed Element Bearers gathered by Twilight Sparkle in the LooseCanon tie-in ''Elements of Insanity'', in order to prove Trixie unworthy of the Element of Magic.

!!Clover Charms
!!!An unfortunate pony better known by her ironic nickname of ''Lucky''. Though not Twilight's original choice for Laughter, was deemed a perfect fit after they spoke.
* AffectionateNickname: She has a habit of calling Twilight "Tenbs".
* BizarreTasteInFood: Improvising meals put together from whatever was most heavily discounted has led to her developing lots of... ''interesting'' recipes.
** Heaven help us all if she and Trixie ever teamed up to host a dinner party.
* TheBusCameBack: Some time after Twilight's house arrest, Clover got in touch with Twilight and started hanging out with her again, reappearing in ''Contest of Champions''.
* CannotTellAJoke: It's not that Clover cannot make a joke. It's just nopony laughs at them.
* DeadpanSnarker
* DistaffCounterpart: Of a [[ male]] background pony with whom she shares her nickname, cutie mark, and coat color.
** CompositeCharacter: In addition to the male Lucky, another background pony considered for the role was [[ Shoeshine]] from whom she got her curly mane and arguably gender.
* TheGadfly: She enjoys messing with Twilight's head, claiming ignorance of Star-Swirl the Bearded, then Clover the Clever, then claiming Twilight just made the word "anamorphic" up.
* IronicNickname: She's got plenty of ''luck'', unfortunately it's all bad.
* MeaningfulName: When combined, her nickname and last name are the same as a well-known kids' breakfast cereal. Her first name and cutie mark are even one of the associated marshmallows.
** According to WordOfGod this was a happy accident of changing the character's name (originally Lucky Clovers) to fit her IAmSong.
* ThePollyanna: Though not out of naiveté or ignorance. She is all too aware that with her rotten life she would have every good reason to [[{{Wangst}} wallow in despair]], but instead chooses to meet each and every day with an uncompromising [[AngstWhatAngst smile]].
--> ''How could that not be the easiest choice in the world to make?''
* {{Schadenfreude}}: Is all too aware of this effect, and this is primarily how she brings others cheer: by making them glad they're not ''her''.

!!!Unicorn. The public at large knows her as the generous care-taker of a group of orphans which is why Twilight made the good-faith choice of selecting her as the Element of Generosity. Privately, though, she represents a threat that not even Luna herself seems to be aware of; that's because she and her charges are descendants of Discord himself ready to spread chaos in their ancestor's name.
* BitchInSheepsClothing
* BodyHorror: Using her chaos magic warps her body as well as her mind.
* BreedingCult: She originally comes form a family that was trying to consolidate the discordian bloodline and in so doing give rise to a new avatar of chaos.
* GameFace
* OrphanageOfLove: Runs one as a cover for her true nature.
* PhlebotinumOverload: Ultimately defeated not by any of the heroes but by OD'ing on her own chaos magic.
* TokenEvilTeammate
* VillainWithGoodPublicity
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: Lampshaded by Discord. If she wants infinite power, she'd better be prepared for the infinite madness that comes with it.

!!Loosey Screws and Woody Wittles:
!!!Earth pony mother and her pegasus son. Lossey is the Lunaverse version of the pony who barked like a dog in Read It and Weep. Silverstar selected her to be the Element of Kindness because she was someone noble and good he'd encountered during the unspecified atrocity that led to his current state of self-doubt. Sadly, the horrors of the incident have reduced her to a shell of her former kindly, energetic self despite Lemonhearts' 'healing' her. Her caretaker son is somewhat too ready to forgive Silverstar for his liking...which qualifies him to be her stand-in.

* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor: Loosey was the one who suggested her family move out west, [[spoiler:so she feels she's responsible for the dead of her husband]]
* BrokenBird: Even though she's able to speak again, she's a ghost of the friendly figure she was before the nameless catastrophe that destroyed Silverstar's faith in himself.
* YourCheatingHeart: [[spoiler:Loosey had an affair, which her husband knew about. And questioned her about as he died.]]

!!!A formerly heroic Frontiersman who has become a shell of his former self following a personal tragedy. Twilight's choice for the Element of Loyalty, though the biographies suggest that he'd have made more sense as Element of Honesty.
* DrowningMySorrows: Sought solace in the bottom of bottles
* FailureKnight
* IGaveMyWord
* KnightInSourArmor
* MissedHimByThatMuch: He ''almost'' found Twilight before Shining Armor and the Shadowbolts did.
* ReplacementGoldfish: Fills an unspoken and unacknowledged void left by Twilie's inability to contact her BBFFF.

!!Snowflake [=McHugeLarge=]
!!!A highly enthusiastic pegasus bodybuilder with underdeveloped wings. Twilight deems him the Element of Honesty, though the biographies suggest that he'd have been a better fit for Loyalty.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: His mind has a tendency to wander, which combined with his poor hearing means he often misinterprets what ponies were saying.
* {{Determinator}}
* DreamCrushingHandicap: His underdeveloped wings and impaired hearing mean he can't become a Wonderbolt or royal guard. Not that he's letting that stop him.
* DumbMuscle: Percieved as such due to his many quirks.
* InspirationallyDisadvantaged: {{Invoked}}: Unable to serve in the military due to his underdeveloped wings and poor hearing, he instead starts trying to inspire the youth of Equestria by demonstrating what hard work can accomplish.
* NoIndoorVoice

!!Twilight Sparkle
!!!See Ponyville: Other Adults

[[folder:Non-canon characters]]

* CanonForeigner: All of them, given they only appear in the fan-fiction stories.

!!A.K. Yearling

* TheGhost: Mentioned as being a teacher at Canterlot University in ''Nightmares Yet to Come'', but she doesn't appear because she's absent, for some [[AdventureArchaeologist mysterious reason]].

!!Falling Star

-->'''Appears in:''' Nightmares Yet to Come'

A pony from Canterlot, attacked by Tirek cultists. Daughter of Morning Star.

* BadassNormal: She's a regular student at Luna's academy, and yet still manages to evade a group of cultists for four years, to the extent they have no idea where she's gotten to.
* BreakTheCutie: [[spoiler:Being subject to MindRape by a cult, only being saved by the apparent sacrifice of the pony who led her into a trap, and having to go on the run does that to a pony.]]

!!Grey Hoof

-->'''Appears in:''' ''Dinky and the Blanks''

A supposedly charming party planner from the hidden town of Moonville

* ItsAllAboutMe: [[spoiler:Ultimately, all of Grey Hoof's motivations come down entirely to himself, to the extent he even states the ponies of his town are just meant to do what he wants and nothing more.]]
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler:Even after everypony else in the town acknowledges what they did was wrong, Grey Hoof refuses and runs off. As Raindrops notes, though, he's at large with no money, no power, and no skills besides party planning.]]
* LargeAndInCharge: He's the leader of Moonville's ponies, and is noted to be bigger than they are.
* ManipulativeBastard: Though Dinky's too young to realise it at first, everything he does is designed to make sure she stays in the town. Even once she does cotton on, she still has a hard time counter-arguing him.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: [[spoiler:In his true, Kelpie form.]]
* ShutUpHannibal: Trixie shuts down his attempt at a SherlockScan, pointing out anyone can tell Ditzy's got strabismus, or Carrot Top's a farmer, or Lyra's a musician.
* WouldHurtAChild: [[spoiler:Not to mention kill them, just for having a cutie mark.]]

!!Indigo Zap

-->'''Appears in:''' ''Nightmares Yet to Come''

* TheConspiracy: [[spoiler:Part of a group of ponies who attacked Trixie and Twilight as part of their vague but sinister plan.]]
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Along with another member of the group she's with, inflicts one on [[spoiler:Greengrass.]] Apparently she has issues with nobility.

!!Lightning Dust

-->'''Appears in:''' ''Nightmares Yet to Come''

* ThoseTwoGuys: With Sunset Shimmer.

-->'''Appears in:''' ''Nightmares Yet to Come''

Unicorn in the employ of Princess Luna, former "friend" of Trixie's

* AlliterativeName: Her second name begins with an "m".
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: [[spoiler:Implied to be under some kind of mind control, kept in check with magic.]]
* DarkSecret: [[spoiler:There's something about her TheConspiracy doesn't want Trixie to know about. Something beginning with "ch-".]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Finishes off a formal report of the night's activity to Luna by pointing out that Corona has not overthrown her.
* EmotionlessGirl: Midnight seems aloof, rarely reacting with anything more than disinterest (or scorn). The closest to a public display of emotion is protesting an edict of Luna's.
* FightingFromTheInside: [[spoiler:When Falling Star is being subject to MindRape, something happens that makes Midnight start fighting off the other cultists, so Falling can get to safety.]]
* GiverOfLameNames: By her own admission, she's no good at coming up with names. Hence, why she's called "Midnight".
* HypercompetentSidekick: Apparently serves as one to Luna, frequently dealing with all manner of paperwork (which Luna ''really'' doesn't like).
* {{Jerkass}}: Midnight is rude and / or aloof to just about everyone she meets. [[spoiler:And that's ''before'' she rigs up a way of legally taking a child. Not to mention she's a member of a cult that attacked Trixie.]]
* LudicrousPrecision: She can quote how long it's been since she and Trixie last met to the day.
* MarriedToTheJob: Implied. Her place of residence is a tiny apartment in the servant's quarters with absolutely nothing in the way of personal touches.
* OddFriendship:
** Not even Trixie seems sure as to how they were friends. The closest explanation given is she just followed Trixie around and never went away. When asked, she states that Trixie is the closest thing she has to a friend.
** Also hinted to have one with Shining Armor. Her only possession is a book he gave her, and she once went to the Grand Galloping Gala with him (though she insists she was just being a bodyguard).
* RememberTheNewGuy: Supposedly a former associate of Trixie's, and an incredibly prominent underling of Luna's.
* SpockSpeak: Speaks in a very formal, verbose fashion, even when talking to foals. [[spoiler:Though when she's on her own, it vanishes, suggesting it's an affectation.]]

-->'''Appears in:''' ''Dinky and the Blanks''

A ghostly pony inhabiting the Everfree, who meets and strikes up a friendship with Dinky

* CheerfulChild: Despite having been dead for two hundred years, [[spoiler:courtesy of her friends and family.]]
* ThatCameOutWrong: She says she thinks Dinky'd make a good ghost, then has to add she didn't mean she thought Dinky should ''die''.

!!Sunset Shimmer

-->'''Appears in:''' ''Nightmares Yet to Come''

* InTheHood: She's introduced in ''Nightmares Yet to Come'' keeping a hood and cloak on indoors in a diner.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Her and Lightning Dust have this dynamic in NYTC, with Sunset calling the shots.

-->'''Appears in:''' ''Nightmares Yet to Come''

A filly with connections to both Trixie and Twilight Sparkle.

* ApologizesALot
* BizarreTasteInFood: Seems to have inherited Trixie's unusual tastes, not being remotely interested in a soup until someone adds a nice dash of mustard.
* ConstantlyCurious: Once she gets over her shyness, she begins asking Trixie dozens of questions.
* CreatingLifeIsUnforeseen: The not-a-cult behind the attack on Trixie and Twilight hadn't been trying to create an alicorn. It just sort of happened after a ''very'' angry Luna crashed their party.
* {{Expy}}: Fills the role of "Nightmares Yet to Come"'s Nyx counterpart.
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:Since she seems to be a smaller, non-evil version of Antithesis, she was given the name "Thesis", if only because nopony in the room could agree on a better name.]]
* MoodSwinger: At one point goes from refusing to eat a meal to smashing a table in a sudden burst of anger, then straight to fear. In fairness, she is just a child.
* PowerIncontinence: Her first attempt to lift just an apple caused some mayhem. Namely, the apple is squished, and then the ground beneath it gets torn up. It's suggested that it's basically Dinky's issue with magic (over-focusing her grip) amplified due to Thesis' apparent status as an alicorn.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:Looks like a foal, despite being no more than a month old.]]
