Inheriting her father's pitching arm, Ryo has an innate pitching ability -- at the young age of 14, she has a 95 mph fastball! She is left-handed player just like her father. She originally planned not to go to high school because she wanted to help support her mother at the family's Oden shop, but she is recruited to the Kisaragi Girls' High School to be the foundation of the new baseball team. Before playing for Kisaragi, she often played as relief pitcher for a local sandlot baseball team, the Wildcats.

----
* BlankWhiteEyes: [[spoiler: When she sees Hiroki and Izumi kissing]] ([[spoiler: Though it was meant as a "good bye" kiss and not so much a "hello I love you" kiss.]])
* BreakTheCutie: The second half of the series shows her dealing with her [[spoiler: learning about her father's involvement in a baseball scandal, and her love triangle with Izumi and Hiroko]], which come very close to breaking her.

* HeroicBSOD: Learning about [[spoiler: her father's DarkAndTroubledPast nearly causes her to quit baseball.]]

* Hobbies: Playing piano, watching operas

----
* AlphaBitch: Starts out as a jock athlete with contemptuous towards others and this attitude poses problems in several games.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Oh, God, is she ever this, when it comes to Hiroki. [[DefrostingIceQueen She gets]] [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy better, though.]]
* CulturedBadass: Comes from an upperclass family, a skilled pianist, and a fan of opera whose is so aristocratic in demeanor. She proves to be quite quick in adapting to different sports and excel in them.
* {{Determinator}}: Nothing can stop her from playing, even injuries.
* ImportantHaircut: Snips her long hair down a bit to make it more suitable for baseball, as it kept getting in the way of her line of sight. Since she has a very regal lifestyle, cutting it shows she's willing to cast off her proper lady image to enjoy something she really wants to do.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She might not think much of Ryo at first, but she does care about her and her friends in the baseball team.
* LosingAShoeInTheStruggle: PlayedForDrama. When her cab gets stuck in the middle of a storm while [[spoiler:Ryo is in critical condition]], she decides to go out into the muddy bogs to get to the hospital. Knowing the mud will definitely ruin her loafers and by extension her socks, she willingly strips down to bare feet and trudges on without any footwear. Later, the episode focuses on her battered feet to exemply that this was an unpleasant ordeal and that if she went as far as to come to the hospital barefoot, it meant a ''whole'' lot to Izumi to [[spoiler:make sure Ryo pulls through and to be by her side]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: A composition of Franz Schubert's Trio Number 2 in E-flat major from the series OST is often played when she's on-screen; either during moments of triumph or intensity.
* NotSoStoic: She is portrayed initially as keeping her compsure and quite rational but........
* PerpetualFrowner
* PointOfNoReturn: She burns her tennis stuff in one scene and views the act as this.
* SingleTear: A teardrop patters onto her clenched left fist after she learns [[spoiler:that Ryo has regained consciousness in the hospital.]]
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Girly Girl to Ryo's Tomboy.
* ToughLove: A recurring theme is that she'll challenge Ryo and her other teammates in a seemingly harsh fashion to improve their skills (notably challenging Mao's initially poor catching abilities, or [[spoiler: hitting a ball to Yuki to snap her out of her HeroicBSOD]]. It works, usually, but not always without some bruised feelings along the way.
* WellDoneDaughterGirl: She has a very strained relationship with her mother at the beginning of the series, believing that Keiko doesn't love her, while also seeking her approval. Their relationship slowly improves after Izumi joins the baseball team.
* WhenSheSmiles: She hardly smiles in the series (her cocky and mean smiles don't really count), but the time she does a warm smile, is at the end of the series, when she [[spoiler: hugs Ryo to cheer her up after losing the semi-final, with the promise of maybe trying to win and go to the Koshien tournament next year.]]
* TookALevelInKindness: As she learns to value of team over individualism, she begins to also respect people of inferior status in general and she also learns not to let a LoveTriangle cloud her though to do manipulation and concedes defeat in the relationship.

!!Hikaru Yoshimoto
!!!Voiced by: Naomi Nagasawa (JP), Creator/CynthiaMartinez (EN)

----
* BetaCouple: Ends up in a relationship with Ryo's friend Seishiro by the end of the series.
* GenkiGirl:
* LargeHam

* Weight: 103 pounds / 47.0 kg

Yuki is highly mysterious and quiet, possibly not even of this world. Never without her "alien" companion, Fifi, whom she keeps with her at all times, Yuki is nevertheless is a superb fielder who is always in the right place at the right time. Like Hikaru, she was also MVP of Junior High School Softball Competition in Kansai.

----

* CompanionCube: Fifi (her "alien" doll that she talks to on occasion)
* DrivenToSuicide: Subverted. [[spoiler: Attempted to kill herself after being traumatized by her mean teammates in response of her being an MVP of the Kansai Junior High Softball Competition. She ended up not succeeding in killing herself no matter how hard she tried.]]
** [[spoiler: HappilyFailedSuicide]]
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler: Goes through one when she loses her "alien" Fifi.]]
* TheQuietOne: Has the least amount of dialog of the team members, usually only saying one line in some episodes, and usually to her "alien friend", Fifi.

!!Seira Morimura
!!!Voiced by: Creator/KyokoHikami (JP), Kelli Cousins (EN)

* Weight: 111 pounds / 50.5 kg
* Date of Birth: November 21st (Sagittarius)

A former school dropout, the red-haired thug had to be tricked by Coach Kido into joining the team. She was a star athlete in track and field, and established records for both the 100 m sprint dash and javelin throw.

----
* BadGuysPlayPool: Not evil per se, but she was recruited while playing pool; she's naturally the team rebel.
* BigNo: She yells "No!" when she discovers that [[spoiler: Coach Kido tricked her into joining the team]].
* {{Delinquent}}: When we first meet her. She had to be lured into joining the team (much to her disappointment) after Coach Kido saved her from an even worse group of thugs (which included a ''big'' one).
* FieryRedhead
* IronicName: The Kanji for her name roughly translate to "forest village good saint". She is the complete antithesis of that.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Even though she has an aggressive personality, she cares about her friends.
* TheLadette: She is aggressive, crude, rude, likes to start fights and also a former delinquent and (formerly) an underage drinker.
* NoSocialSkills: Due to her former life as a delinquent.
* SirSwearsALot: Due to her former background as a delinquent, she is probably the most foul-mouthed of all the players on the team.
* {{Tsundere}}: Type A
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tomboy to Yoko's Girly Girl.

!!Koharu Hotta
!!!Voiced by: Creator/AkikoYajima (JP), Creator/KiraVincentDavis (Credited as "Kira") (EN)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/koharuhotta.jpg]]
* Batting Order: 3rd Batter
* Defense Position: Center Field
* Throws: right-handed
* Bats: right handed
* Height: 5' 1.5" inches / 156.6 cm
* Weight: 110 pounds / 45.5 kg
* Date of Birth: January 3rd (Capricorn)
* Blood Type: Type O
* Hobby: Fishing

The only member of the team with actual baseball experience, Koharu played for a boys' team before being found out as a girl. She grew up on the sea as a daughter of a fisherman, and has developed an extremely powerful swing, dubbed the `Wave Motion Swing` from her years of fishing. Her batting is so strong that she occasionally hits out of the park home runs. She is originally from Tosa, a small city on the Shikoku island (which explains her Southern Accent in the English Dubbed Version).

----

* DaddysGirl: She is very close to her father and is reluctant to attend Kisaragi because she'd have to leave him alone. In the last two episodes, [[spoiler: her father becomes ill and her worrying about him affectsher play]].
* SweetPollyOliver: Played for a boys' team before being found out as a girl.
* {{Tomboy}}: Even more so than Ryo.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tomboy to Ryo's girly girl.

!!Yoko Tokashiki
!!!Voiced by: Creator/MayumiIizuka (JP), Creator/TiffanyGrant (EN)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yokotokashiki.jpg]]

* Throws: Right-handed
* Bats: Right-handed
* Height: 5' 2.5" inches / 158.5 cm

* Measurements: Bust- 33 inches, Waist- 21 inches, Hips- 33 inches
* Date of Birth: October 10th (Libra)
* Blood Type: Type AB
* Ambitions: To be a singer, dancer or actress

Recruited to fill a hole in the lineup, Yoko has very little athletic ability. Yoko is mostly interested in concentrating on a modeling career, but was looking to use the up-and-coming baseball team as a way to stand out from others. She is originally from Okinawa, the southernmost prefecture in Japan (which explains her tanned skin). She left her hometown, claiming to get rid of dozens of boys who wanted to be her boyfriend, and set her heart to a career in modeling.

----

* TheDitz
* DumbBlonde: Well, in the world of sports, at least.
* DyeHard: Even called this by Seira, who hates her the most for being the least competent.
* HairOfGold
* LargeHam
* TheLoad: At first she is a terrible player who's reluctant even to catch the ball. In their first match her teammates are constantly having to cover for her errors. She does improve, eventually.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly Girl to Seira's Tomboy
* TookALevelInBadass: Completely useless when she joins the team and the only reason Kido picked her wsa because they were in desperate need of players and because Kido found her resume amusing. She eventually improves in skill to the point she does her primary job as field player well and she even does far better as a batter than Ryo and Mao (and was essential in breaking the stalemate in some close games).
* TookALevelInKindness: Started out as a preppy chick full of herself who only joined the team to build up public exposure and good PR for her celebrity career, choosing midway to abandon the team as an talent agency took interest in her. Eventually she becomes genuinely devoted to the team and mellows down her spoiledness, even giving up a contract opportunity as a model so she can serve the team.

!!Mao Daidoji
!!!Voiced by: Kokoro Shindo (JP), Creator/ShelleyCaleneBlack (EN)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maodaioji.jpg]]
* Batting Order: 8th Batter
* Defense Position: Catcher
* Throws: Right Handed
* Bats: Right-handed
* Height: 5' 9" inches / 175.5 cm
* Weight: Not Given
* Date of Birth: March 3rd (Pisces)
* Blood Type: Type A
* Hobbies: Judo

Plucked from the judo team, the imposing but incredibly-bashful Mao is the only person who can catch Ryo's pitches. An excellent team member when she can overcome her personal shyness.

----

* GentleGiant: Very soft-spoken and friendly, despite her shyness. Ryo is initially intimidated by her size but almost immediately befriends her afterwards.
* ShrinkingViolet: Quick to blame herself when something goes wrong.

!!Kanako Mita
!!!Voiced by: Rumi Kasahara (JP), Aninda Praptingtyas (EN)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kanakomita.jpg]]
* Batting Order: 6th Batter
* Defense Position: Shortstop
* Throws: right-handed
* Bats: right-handed
* Height: 5' 3" inches / 160.3 cm
* Weight: 107 pounds / 48.8 kg
* Date of Birth: June 6th (Gemini)
* Blood Type: Type A
* Hobbies: Reading
* Specialty: Disguise

Kanako is an excellent baseball player and is the daughter of the school's principal who is against the baseball team in the first half. During this, Kanako has to disguise herself as Tami Konaka (小中 多美 Konaka Tami?), a pseudonym which is an anagram of her name, to be able to play for the team. She has a kind of geeky attitude, and she wants to be a doctor. But she also likes baseball, and wants to play baseball during her high school years. Kanako was also previously a softball star in junior high, and Hikaru recognizes her from their previous encounters in softball games.

----
* WigDressAccent: Had to disguise herself with a green wig to avoid having her father - the principal who disapproves of the team - find out she's on the roster. Lampshaded when she mentions how odd that all it takes is a wig for a father to not recognize his own daughter.

!!Nene Mori
!!!Voiced by: Creator/TaekoKawata (JP), Jennifer K. Earhart (EN)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nenemouri.jpg]]
* Team Position: Manager
* Height: 5' 3.5" inches / 161.7 cm

* Date of Birth: September 7th (Virgo)
* Blood Type: Type O
* Hobbies: Reading Comics, baking, growing herbs, flower arrangement, Japanese dance, violin, sewing, ballet, collecting stuffed animals, astrology and laundry

Team manager and part-time cheerleader, Nene is a constant bundle of energy, but knows little of the sport of baseball (learning all she knows from sports manga). A perpetual ditz, Nene is constantly interested in any hobby or ability she can discover. She also sometimes act as a replacement coach, if Coach Kido is absent or late due to hangovers.

----
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: She's interested in...whatever's she interested in at a given moment.
* TheDitz
* HeadphonesEqualIsolation: Not intentionally, but when we first meet her, she fills up the shower with laundry detergent attempting to do laundry, while wearing headphones to listen to music.
* LargeHam: Needless to say she loves her role as the team's unofficial cheerleader.

[[folder:Kisaragi Girls Management And Administration]]

!!Shinsaku Kido
!!!Voiced by: Creator/KojiIshii (JP), Creator/AndyMcAvin (EN)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shinsakukido.jpg]]
The perpetually drunken coach of the Kisaragi Girls baseball team.

----
* TheAlcoholic: Mostly played for laughs, though it's strongly suggested that he had a rough life (including [[spoiler: Hidehiko's disgrace and death]] which drove him to drink.
* AllThereInTheManual: His personal name is never mentioned in any episode and only appears in the closing credits.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's a drunken, lecherous wreck most of the time, but he's also a skilled manager who's able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses of his players.
* ChivalrousPervert: He flirts with Ryo's mom and initially makes suggestive comments towards his team members. That said, he neither tries taking advantage of the girls nor doubts their ability to play baseball, and he's protective of Ryo and Seira, in particular, developing a fatherly relationship with them by the end of the series.
* {{Homage}}: Coach Kido is a mixture of [[Film/ALeagueOfTheirOwn Jimmy Dugan]] and [[Film/TheBadNewsBears Morris Buttermaker]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He used to play both professionally and as an amateur with Ryo's father, and knows exactly what the girls need to be able to do to win. When he wants to teach a lesson, he usually is not nice.
* PetTheDog: Teaching Ryo how to throw the "lightning ball" and his uncharacteristic compassion for Yuki [[spoiler:during her breakdown]] show that he's not a jerk 100 percent of the time.

!!Keiko Himuro
!!!Voiced by: Creator/YoshikoSakakibara (JP), Creator/KellyManison (EN)
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/keikohimuro.jpg]]
The President of the Kisaragi school organization and the person who initiated the creation of the Kisaragi Girls baseball team, as well as Izumi's mother.

----
* TheDeterminator: Once she decides to create a girl's baseball team, she's not going to let anyone or anything stop her.
* ParentsAsPeople: Still holds a candle for Hidehiko Hayakawa, which resulted in Izumi claiming that she never loved her daughter or her dead husband.
