[[folder: The Clones [[spoiler: of Project Leda]]]]

!!In General
-->'''Played by''': Creator/TatianaMaslany and Cynthia Galant (young)

A group of young women who look identical to each other because they are clones born of the same genetic material. Most of them were not aware of their true origins until adulthood, but they are of great interest to various underground conspiracies.

* ClonesArePeopleToo: A very important theme in this series is that they are all individuals who deserve to be treated as people despite their genetics.
* CloneDegeneration: The clones have a predisposition to respiratory disorders and infertility, possibly caused by an unclassified autoimmune disease.
** In 2.08, [[spoiler:Ethan Duncan indicates that the clones' infertility was on purpose, implying either that Sarah and Helena's fertility was not intentional or not his doing. Unless, of course, he was just saying that to spare Rachel's feelings]]. It's also implied and later confirmed that the process used to make the clones infertile is responsible for the disorder that kills some of them.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: The clones' hair is the key way the series helps to distinguish and characterize them for the viewer. Beth has it pulled back tight. Katja has dyed bright red hair. Sarah has straight black hair that is usually somewhat ill-kept. Allison has a simple ponytail with bangs. Cosima has dreadlocks. Helena has curly, ratty blonde hair. Rachel has straight blonde hair in a SciFiBobHaircut.
* FireForgedFriends: Sarah, Cosima, and Alison. [[spoiler: And later Sarah and Helena]].
* FreudianTrio:
** For the main trio, Sarah is Id, Cosima is Ego, and Alison is Superego.
** Alternately, Helena is Id, Sarah is Ego, and Rachel is Superego.
* HonoraryAunt: [[spoiler: In a drawing, Kira refers to all of the clones she knows as Auntie, including Helena. (Of course, Helena is her actual aunt.) As always, Kira seems to be right. Alison says it feels like her own daughter is hurt when Kira is in the hospital, Cosima is more worried about Delphine hurting Kira than herself after uncovering her treachery, and Helena clearly loves her to bits.]]
* IllGirl[=/=]IncurableCoughOfDeath: Some develop respiratory problems. Katja and [[spoiler: Cosima]] cough up blood, while Jennifer mentions that polyps were found in her lungs.
* PolarOppositeTwins: [[spoiler: Sarah and Helena. The former is a British punk and StreetSmart hustler, while the latter is a bleached-blonde Ukranian assassin on a MissionFromGod. In Season 2, the show begins exploring the symbolism of the two being 'mirror twins' and shows them sleeping side-by-side in a tent in a literal display of SiblingYinYang.]]
* SanitySlippage: Nearly all of them, to varying degrees. Beth, Alison, and Helena seem to be the most affected.
* SiblingTeam:
** Sarah, Alison, and Cosima come to think of themselves as sisters.
** [[spoiler: Sarah and Helena become one in season 2]].
* SterilityPlague: Alison asks early on if Kira is Sarah's biological daughter (Alison's children are adopted) and we later learn that Beth was infertile. Again referenced when Helena asks Kira how she could possibly be Sarah's daughter. Helena is visibly distraught by this. Tomas immediately declares that Kira shouldn't exist upon learning of her existence, and decides to hunt her down. Delphine deliberately hides her existence from Dr. Leekie.
** Possibly averted in that [[spoiler:the encoded patent in the clones' DNA covers "this organism and derivative genetic material", implying that their creators may have accounted for the possibility of children... or further cloning]]. However, it's later revealed that [[spoiler:Sarah is the only fertile clone the Neolutionists are aware of, and they don't even know how]]. Even later, [[spoiler:it's revealed that Helena is fertile as well, which is probably possible since she's Sarah's twin. Sarah and Helena's fertility is stated to be unintentional and is implied to have occurred because Amelia fled the project before Dyad could ensure that they were infertile]].
* ThreePlusTwo: Clone Club. Sarah, Alison and Cosima make the PowerTrio while the late Beth and Katja round out the Five-Man Band.
* TwinSwitch: There are ''many'' instances of clones impersonating each other. Sarah has gone as Beth, Katja, Alison, Cosima, and Rachel (over the phone); Alison has gone as Sarah; Helena has gone as Beth and Sarah; [[spoiler: Rachel has gone as Sarah.]]
** Invoked by Sarah in the second season premiere. To distract Daniel, Sarah leaks Alison's location as well as the make of Alison's minivan. When Daniel captures Alison thinking it is Sarah, he is forced to let her go when he realizes he has been had.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Justified because they all have [[spoiler: mostly]] the same DNA.

!!Sarah Manning
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sarah_635.jpg]]

The main protagonist, Sarah witnesses the suicide of a woman who looks exactly like her and decides to use it as an opportunity to escape her troubled life. But, as she quickly discovers, Beth Childs had troubles of her own.

* ActionGirl[=/=]ActionMom: She's starting to become this in season two, after [[TookALevelInBadass taking a level in badass]].
* AntiHero
* AttendingYourOwnFuneral: Well, watching it through binoculars, anyway.
* AudienceSurrogate: As she finds out about the clone conspiracy, so does the audience.
* {{Badass}}: Becomes this in season two. Even Marian Bowles, Rachel's superior, is intimidated by Sarah.
* BedTrick: Uses this on Paul to avert his suspicions. [[spoiler:It's later revealed that this didn't actually work; he immediately suspected she wasn't Beth]].
* [[BigBrotherInstinct Big Sister Instinct]]: She does ''not'' react kindly when Alison points a gun at Felix.
* CharacterDevelopment: Sarah starts out wanting nothing more than to steal enough money to take Kira and run away. Discovering the conspiracy forces her to take a look at the bigger picture. She even returns the money she stole from Beth's account to Alison.
* ClingyJealousGirl: Averted. [[spoiler:When Rachel forces Paul to sleep with her, Sarah's only real concern appears to be stopping Helena from killing Rachel]].
* CoolBigSis: [[spoiler: To Helena, despite being twins, due to Helena's child-like nature. The bond currently runs hot and cold, though, due to some heavy baggage, Sarah's often-selfish nature, and Helena being, well, Helena]].
* CryCute: When she sees Kira at the funeral and when [[spoiler: Kira is hit by a car]].
* DeadpanSnarker
* DidntThinkThisThrough: It was clear from the start that her plan to impersonate Beth had some pretty big holes in it.
* TheDrifter: Was this before the start of the series.
* DueToTheDead: Averted. She doesn't have much respect for [[spoiler: Beth and Katja's bodies. In fact, [[RobbingTheDead she robs them]]]].
* FakingTheDead: She switches places with Beth to fool Vic into thinking she's dead.
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: She's not as reliable and grounded as Felix, doesn't have a steady income or her own place, and lives from scheme to scheme while dodging the cops.
* GoodGirlsAvoidAbortion: [[spoiler: Played with. While Sarah has done bad things and made bad choices, she is a fundamentally good person who had an abortion (or more than one) at some point in her life.]]
* GuileHero: As to be expected from a former hustler.
* HellBentForLeather: When she's not in disguise, Sarah likes to wear black leather clothing.
* {{Hustler}}
* IJustWantToBeFree: Most of her problems arise from her desire to live on her own terms. The fact that there are two conspiracies aimed at either controlling or killing her makes this difficult.
* ImprobableAimingSkills: Having never fired a gun before, Sarah is horrified to learn that, as Beth, she must pass a police handgun qualification. Luckily, after a few hours of target practice with Alison, she becomes a crack shot.
* {{Jerkass}}: Sarah can be rude, selfish, and harsh. Upon seeing Beth kill herself, her first instinct is to take her stuff and impersonate her for monetary gain.
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: However mean she is, Sarah genuinely loves her daughter and foster-brother, and is becoming more and more fond of the other clones.
* MamaBear: Nearly everything she does, she does so she can live a happy life with Kira. This is especially prominent after [[spoiler: Kira disappears in the season one finale]]. She later develops this attitude toward her fellow clones, such as when she admonishes Cosima to be careful and rips into Alison's husband for taking her for granted and talking down to her.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: With her brother Felix.
* MeaningfulName: Shares a name with the Biblical Sarah, who also bore a very special child when it should have been impossible.
* MissingMom: Is one. [[spoiler: Has one]].
* MsFanservice: More so than the other clones, interestingly. A lot of it comes from her sex scenes with [[MrFanservice Paul]] and many clothes-changing scenes. Then there's her fondness for tight leather.
* ParentalAbandonment: Guilty of it. She left Kira in Mrs. S's care and left town for ten months. [[spoiler: In season 2, she leaves Kira with Cal so she can continue her fight with her daughter in relative safety. Kira, understandably, seems to grow a bit resentful at once again being loved from a distance.]]
* StreetSmart
* TookALevelInBadass: Alison teaches her how to shoot a gun for her role as a cop. She takes another level in season 2 when she [[spoiler: goes against the Neolutionists and Proletheans to protect Kira.]]
* TookALevelInKindness: Starts to confront her past and learns to think less about herself and more about others.
* UnkemptBeauty: Usually played straight; subverted when she's impersonating someone.
* VerbalTic: Ends a lot of sentences with "yeah?"
* WomanInBlack: Her most frequently worn color -- especially going as herself -- but the connotations of being evil or threatening are subverted.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Desperately wants to prove to Mrs. S that she can be good mum to Kira.

!!Det. Elizabeth "Beth" Childs
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beth_5807.jpg]]

Beth was a cop who killed herself under mysterious circumstances. She was involved in a clone conspiracy, finding and protecting her fellow clones.

* AccidentalMurder: Killed Maggie Chen when on duty. [[spoiler: Subverted. Episode four reveals that it was intentional; Chen had threatened to expose the clones and more]].
* CryCute: You can see tears on her face right before she kills herself.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Contrary to what she expected, Sarah finds that Beth's life was far from a bed of roses.
* DeadAllAlong: In-universe. The audience knows she's dead, but no-one outside Clone Club knew [[spoiler: until the end of season 1.]]
* DrivenToSuicide: Her only scene, the very first scene of the series, is of her jumping into the path of a moving subway.
* FairCop: Was considered very pretty.
* FunctionalAddict: Beth was taking apparently taking more pills than she should have but no one seemed to notice much.
* PassionateSportsGirl: According to some home movies, she competed in marathons. [[spoiler: Paul realizes that Sarah is a fake because she didn't know the last marathon Beth competed in]]. She also participated in mountain biking.
* PlotTriggeringDeath: Her death enables Sarah to take over her life.
* PosthumousCharacter: The show opened with her death.
* ScarsAreForever: She has a scar on the back of her neck from a mountain biking accident. [[spoiler: Paul becomes suspicious when he sees that "Beth" doesn't have a scar]].
* SmallRoleBigImpact
* TheStoic: According to Alison and Paul, she was formal and distant.
* TheTeamBenefactor: She had a bank account to hold money for getting illegal information that might help her and the other clones. Which is actually Alison's money.

!!Alison Hendrix
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/alison_4277.jpg]]

An uptight soccer mom, Alison was one of Beth's confidants who helped conceal the conspiracy.

* ActionMom: The most badass of the clones, at least until Sarah [[TookALevelInBadass upped her game]] and note that she was the one who taught Sarah how to shoot in the first place.
* TheAlcoholic: Rapidly descends into this as the series progresses. As of [=2x04=], she's in rehab.
* BerserkButton: ''Don't'' use the c-word (not [[CountryMatters that one]]) and don't bring the conspiracies anywhere near [[MamaBear her family]].
* ButtMonkey: She's starting to seem like fly paper for monitors. Except for Clone Club and [[spoiler:Aynsley]], anyone else expressing an interest in her always ends up having an ulterior motive. [[spoiler:Donnie is spying on her for Leekie as her monitor]], and as of [=2x06=], [[spoiler:Vic is watching her on Angie's behalf]].
* CatFight: With her suspected monitor in [[Recap/OrphanBlackS01E09UnconsciousSelection S01E09]]. Sarah's impressed.
* CloningBlues[=/=]IJustWantToBeNormal: Resents being a clone and is afraid that her kids might find out that she's a "freak".
* ClusterFBomb: [[NarrativeProfanityFilter Non-pay-cable version]], as Alison bawls her eyes out to Sarah and Mrs. S. how she "f'ed up" her life.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Gives her own husband some nasty burns using a glue gun.
* ControlFreak
* CryCute: In [[Recap/OrphanBlackS01E08EntangledBank S01E08]], you just want to give her a hug.
* CuteAndPsycho: Alison is on the "high intensity, lower than most stability" side of things. While not Helena levels, she immediately pulls a knife on Sarah, pulls a gun on Felix, tortures her husband (and kind of enjoys it), and punches out Aynsley (and kind of enjoys that too). [[spoiler: And then there's coolly watching Aynsley die]].
* FriendInTheBlackMarket: Where she gets her "little helpers" and unregistered firearms.
* GoshDangItToHeck: Occasionally.
* TheGunslinger: Her first instinct is always to pick up a gun whenever there's danger.
* HappilyMarried: Subverted. The clone conspiracy plus her general uptightness cause a lot of problems for her marriage with Donnie. She even contemplates divorcing her husband rather than telling him the truth.
** As of [=2x09=], their marriage seems to be taking a turn for the better, although in a very strange way due to them bonding over [[spoiler:hiding Leekie's corpse]] and finally dealing with [[spoiler:Vic and Angie]].
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: She [[spoiler:slept with Chad, her best friend's husband]], to mess with Aynsley's life. While that did work, it made Alison a social outcast and led her loved ones to stage an intervention.
* HonoraryAunt: She becomes this to Kira, to explain why she was impersonating Sarah.
* {{Housewife}}: Is one.
* {{Jerkass}}: She can be quite spiteful and petty. She was also very hard on Sarah the first time they met.
** JerkWithAHeartOfGold: She is a good, well-meaning person deep down. She just doesn't always know how to show it. She does become fonder of Sarah and more willing to stick her neck out for others.
* LeeroyJenkins: She really can't control her impulses sometimes.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Her appearances are usually accompanied by tinny xylophone-driven melodies, somewhat whimsical yet subtly sinister as well.
* MamaBear: Her children are her top priority. Do ''not'' mess with them.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: [[spoiler:Even before learning that her true monitor was her husband, she's been feeling guilty for letting Aynsley die. After her suspicions are confirmed, she realizes she let her die for no good reason at all]].
* NeatFreak: She cleans Felix's house while he's away, much to his dismay.
* OddFriendship: Develops one with Felix over the course of season 1.
* OohMeAccentsSlipping: InUniverse. Recruited to impersonate Sarah, her first attempts at an English accent veer into Film/CrocodileDundee territory.
* PhraseCatcher: Due to her attitude towards the other clones, conversations usually end with the other party muttering, "Bitch!"
* ProperlyParanoid: [[spoiler: Her husband actually is the monitor, like she initially believed. Of course, she then begins to suspect that virtually ''anyone''e remotely suspicious is monitoring her]].
* StepfordSmiler: Almost from the beginning you can tell that under the veneer of her seemingly perfect life she's coming apart at the seams.
** StepfordSnarker: She often acts condescending towards others.
* TheTeamBenefactor: She provided the money that Beth was holding.
* TookALevelInKindness: Eventually warms up to Sarah, and develops an OddFriendship with Felix.

!!Cosima Niehaus
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cosima_6009.jpg]]

Cosima is a university student who does most of the scientific research for Beth, Alison, and later Sarah. She also helps Sarah adjust to the fact that she's a clone.

* {{Adorkable}}: Very, especially when she interacts with Delphine.
* BiTheWay: WordOfGod confirmed her to be bisexual.
* BrainyBrunette: She's a scientist.
* CryCute: [[spoiler: When she breaks up with Delphine]].
* DeadpanSnarker
-->''[[{{ShoutOut}} "You just broke the first rule of Clone Club."]]''
* DreadlockRasta: She's very different from the other clones in terms of temperament, more laid back, more optimistic, hence why she looks very different from them.
* EruditeStoner: She's shown smoking pot a few times. She doesn't have the slurred speech, but she does wear dreadlocks and hippy-ish clothing. That, and her gems of wisdom are [[TheSmartGuy standard]] rather than special.
* GamerChick: In episode 2.8, she walks in on Scott and his buddies playing a fantasy tabletop game in her lab. She appears completely disinterested at first, but then firmly corrects them on a rules argument she overhears. They invite her to join in, and true to the trope, she crushes them handily. The guys seem to go from love-struck to frustrated as she takes over.
* HotScientist
* IllGirl: [[spoiler: Becomes this when her autoimmune disorder worsens drastically]].
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: [[spoiler: She starts coughing up blood like Katja in season 1 finale, and her search for a cure is a major arc in Season 2]].
* LipstickLesbian: Well, bisexual anyway, but she still fits.
* LoveMakesYouDumb: [[spoiler: She romantically pursues someone she knows might be spying on her, compromising her safety and the safety of the others clones, then is hurt to learn that Delphine was in fact spying on her]].
* MeaningfulName: Her name derives from the Greek word ''kosmos'', meaning "order" or "universe". Cosima is also the feminine version of Cosmo, who is one of the patron saints of medical doctors[[note]]The other one is his brother Damian[[/note]]. Quite fitting for a scientist trying to understand her biology.
** {{Tuckerization}}: The character is based on and named for the show's scientific advisor and friend to the creator, Cosima Herter.
* {{Meganekko}}[=/=]SmartPeopleWearGlasses
* MsExposition: To a certain extent, she explains most of the scientific jargon for the rest of Clone Club (and the audience).
* NerdsAreSexy
* NiceGirl: More welcoming and upbeat than her counterparts.
* [[OnlySaneMan Only Sane Woman]]: Subverted. At first, she was easily the most level-headed and well-adjusted of the clones, but even she started showing signs of unraveling. While [[spoiler:pursuing her monitor]] she acts quite rashly, but insists to Sarah that she knows what she's doing. Cosima doesn't like to admit her mistakes.
* TheSmartGuy
* TookALevelInJerkass: In [[Recap/OrphanBlackS01E08EntangledBank [=S01E08=]]], she started being more abrasive, in contrast to Sarah and Alison, who've done the opposite.
* VoiceWithAnInternetConnection: Since she's away at university for a good portion of Season 1, Cosima and Clone Club stay in touch via cell phone and video chat. As of the Season 1 finale, she's moved to the same city as the others. Resumed early in Season 2, when she moved into her new lab at Dyad to research/treat her illness.

!!Katja Obinger
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/katja_2236.jpg]]

Not much is known about her except that she's German and had a briefcase containing information about the clones. She was murdered in her first appearance.

* BoomHeadshot: Her death.
* CharacterDeath
* FieryRedhead: Comes across as this, given her strong reaction to "Beth's" odd behavior. Her hair is clearly dyed though.
* HighPressureBlood: A whole lot of blood burst from her body when she was shot, possibly from the force of the killer's high-powered rifle.
* IllGirl: She had an unspecified respiratory problem at the time of her death.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: Subverted: it's not the cough that kills her.
* NonIdleRich: Never outright stated, but she does wear expensive clothes, drive a great car, and stay at luxury hotel suites. When Sarah uses Katja's credit card to cover damages to the hotel room, the card accepts thousands of dollars in charges without issue. She was an active participant in the clone conspiracy; making contact with the other clones, digging up useful information, and collecting tissue samples for scientific research.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler: "You are not Beth."]]
* PrettyInMink
* SacrificialLamb: Her death established the existence of a clone murdering conspiracy.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: Similar to Beth in this regard, as she essentially thrusts Sarah further into the clone conspiracy. [[spoiler: She also foreshadows the respiratory illness that some of the clones end up developing]].
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Murdered in her first appearance.

!!Helena
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/loca_7956.jpg]]

Helena is another clone whose presence deepens the mystery. She's a religious fanatic.

* AbusiveParents: The police profiler says that she was likely abused as a child. She says she was raised by Ukrainian nuns, which at least explains her religiosity, and several statements she made in season two confirm she suffered abuse at their hands dating back to at least the age of seven. Tomas qualifies as an abusive surrogate parent.
* {{Adorkable}}: [[spoiler:The more relaxed she gets around Sarah, the more she begins acting like her little sister. It seems pretty hard to get Sarah to laugh, but Helena has no problem with this at all]].
* AntiVillain: A mix of type II and type III. She honestly believes murdering the other clones is the right thing because [[spoiler: the Proletheans indoctrinated her (via brainwashing and abuse) into thinking that way]].
** Really, by season two, [[spoiler:she's arguably undergone a HeelFaceTurn and has become an AntiHero of the UnscrupulousHero variety]].
* AxCrazy: She's very violent and off her rocker, as established in her first appearance.
* {{Badass}}: She was raised to be a killer and she does it well. She's well versed in a variety of weapons and scrappy hand-to-hand combat.
** BadassAdorable: Subverted. She's normally cute due to her childlike sweetness, but in a fight, the cuteness disappears and she becomes genuinely scary.
** BadassBiker: She briefly rides a motorcycle, but soon abandoned it [[spoiler: because the police would recognize it]].
* BerserkButton: [[spoiler: Threatening Kira, and later Sarah, is a surefire way to piss her off]].
** [[spoiler:Threatening any children, really. 2.09 makes this abundantly clear]].
* BigDamnHeroes:
** [[spoiler:Kills Daniel just as he's about to continue torturing and possibly kill Sarah]].
** [[spoiler:And again in 2.09 when she proves not to have been as unconscious as Henrik thought, and enables Gracie and Mark to escape]].
* BigEater
** CrazyConsumption: She eats a lot more than any character on the show and is the most unstable. Helena also has childlike table manners, a reference to her unusual mental state.
** DeliciousDistraction: Helena infiltrates the police station disguised as Beth (technically, disguised as Sarah ''impersonating'' Beth). Her plan to ransack Beth's desk for clues is momentarily derailed when she spots a half-eaten muffin, and proceeds to wolf it down. WordOfGod suggests this actually may have been a ThrowItIn on Maslany's part.
** SweetTooth: She really likes sweets, and even puts extra sugar on her jello. She also carries sugar packets and lollipops in her pockets.
* BizarreHumanBiology: [[spoiler:Helena has situs inversus totalis, a RealLife condition occuring in some identical twins where her internal organs are mirrored from normal.]].
* BlondesAreEvil: The first notable blonde along the clones (until Rachel's appearance towards the end of Season 1), and the AxeCrazy one. Though not so much "evil" as "horribly misguided and twisted by years of indoctrination and abuse".
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Or "lied to about everything and severely abused and crazy", anyway.
* CallingCard: She has all of three: the CreepyDoll heads, which she alters to resemble the clone she is going to kill, the stick figure girls she paints on walls and the paper fortune tellers.
* CloudCuckoolander: She's a crazy killer, but when off the job she's very clueless.
* ColdBloodedTorture: [[spoiler:Uses the same humongous artificial insemination needle that was used on her on Henrik. Try not to think about where it went]].
* ColdSniper: Kills Katja with a high-powered rifle.
* CriminalDoppelganger: To virtually all the other clones.
* CryCute: During her walk with [[spoiler: Kira]].
* CuteAndPsycho: Her childlike sweetness masks a violent murderer.
* DarkActionGirl: Raised by the people who hate the clones, and sent to kill them. She eventually gets put on the path to redemption.
* DeadpanSnarker: Unbelievably, even she has her moments. Usually accompanied by her imitating animal sounds.
* DissonantSerenity
* DuctTapeForEverything: [[spoiler:How Helena patches herself up enough to walk to the emergency room]].
* EvilTwin: Evil clone, anyhow. [[spoiler: By the time she's revealed as Sarah's twin, her character alignment has shifted from black to gray. Then shifts blacker in the finale, when she kills Amelia]].
** TwinSwitch: [[spoiler: In the season one finale]].
* EyeScream: Gouging out her victim's eyes with her thumbs appears to be her SignatureMove.
* FanDisservice: She has a ToplessnessFromTheBack scene that ends up being complete NightmareFuel due to GoodScarsEvilScars.
* FriendToAllChildren: If she finds out that you have hurt a child in any way, she ''will'' make you pay.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: She has many scars on her back, and it's heavily implied that she caused them herself (see SelfHarm below).
* TheGunslinger: Her ''other'' weapon of choice.
* HealingFactor: Able to survive things that would probably kill people who weren't genetically engineered, such as being run through with a giant pole [[spoiler:and being shot at point-blank range]].
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: After being held by the Proletheans and finally reuniting with Sarah]].
* HollywoodToneDeaf: Looks like there wasn't much time for vocal training back at the convent.
* HunterOfHisOwnKind: She hunts the other clones thinking that she is the original and they are unholy abominations.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: She wants to be Sarah's, whom she believes can be "saved" because they have "connection".
* InSeriesNickname: [[spoiler: 'Meathead,' which shifts from an InsultOfEndearment to an AffectionateNickname as Helena bonds with her ''sestra'' while undergoing her HeelFaceTurn]].
* KnifeNut: She carried a knife with a winged-fish on the handle, [[spoiler: the same symbol imprinted on Maggie Chen's neck. It's later taken by the police as evidence]].
* KnightTemplar: She's a religious fanatic who believes it's her purpose to kill all the clones.
* LeftHandedMirror: [[spoiler: To her twin sister, Sarah]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: A very distinctive ScareChord, something like a shrill metal-scratching sound.
* MadeOfIron: Survives, among other incidents, being impaled by rebar; and much later, [[spoiler:a gunshot wound to the chest]].
** It's revealed that Helena is able to survive [[spoiler:her gunshot wound because she has ''dextrocardia situs inversus'' -- her organs are mirror-reversed in her torso. The shot missed her heart because it's on the other side of her chest]].
* MadnessMantra: [[spoiler: Certain phrases associated with Sarah seem to stick in Helena's brain, the first being "I'm not Beth" from their first confrontation and the second being "I miss you, Mommy" from Kira's letters]].
* MeaningfulName: Helena means "shining light" and she was told by Tomas that she was "the light". Helena also becomes fascinated by the "light" in Sarah.
** [[spoiler: She is one of the children produced by Project LEDA. In ClassicalMythology, one of Leda's children was Helen of Troy]].
* MeatgrinderSurgery: ''Performed on herself'' after Sarah rams a length of rebar into her side.
* MedicalRapeAndImpregnate: [[spoiler:It's initially implied that she's artificially inseminated by Hank's people without her consent. However, in 2.05 Gracie is threatened with forcible impregnation with Helena's child, so it appears that her eggs have been extracted from her without her consent instead. Since the people threatening Gracie are ''her own parents'', this probably makes it worse]].
* MissionFromGod: Killing all the clone because they're an "abomination". [[spoiler: She was led to believe that she's the original and therefore has the duty to cleanse them from the Earth]].
* NightmareFuelStationAttendant: Her affinity for drawing bloody stick figures and mutilating dolls to resemble her kills, among other things, certainly qualifies her as this.
* NotQuiteDead: [[spoiler: The ending of "Nature Under Constraint and Vexed" revealed that she survived getting shot by Sarah]].
* TheOphelia
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler:She obviously cares about Kira, even though their walk together doesn't end well]].
* [[PsychopathicManchild Psychopathic Womanchild]]: Type B. Unlike many examples, she knows how dangerous she is, but has some of the same mannerisms of a child. She also leaves clues that lead the police profiler to conclude that she had a bad childhood: mutilated dolls, bloodied paper fortune-tellers, stick figure sketches. She also plays on the bed when she breaks in Beth and Paul's apartment, eats jello with extra sugar, and wants to see Olivier's tail. None of this diminishes how dangerous she is and how far she's willing to go "cleanse" the world of the other clones.
* QuirkyCurls: A darker example. She has a mass of blonde curls, but is totally insane.
* RoomFullOfCrazy: Her first hideout, a rundown apartment in a Ukrainian neighborhood, had Biblical passages written all over the walls. Another has walls filled with drawings of stick-figure people, with one having a question mark for a head.
* SamusIsAGirl: At first everyone believed that the person who [[spoiler: killed Katja and attacked Sarah-as-Beth]] was a man, but then Sarah got a good look at her face.
* SelfHarm: She carves into her flesh when she's under a lot of stress. Tomas provides her with small blades to do so. It was only shown on screen a few times, [[FridgeHorror but her back is extensively scarred]].
* SelfMadeOrphan: [[spoiler: She kills her birth mother]].
* ASinisterClue: The only left-handed clone - [[spoiler: because she and Sarah are mirror image twins]] - and one of the most dangerous. Arguably subverted by the fact that she's a very sympathetic AntiVillain [[spoiler: who makes something of a HeelFaceTurn in the second season]].
* ThickerThanWater: [[spoiler: Rachel almost says this word for word when Sarah doesn't turn Helena over to Leekie. Helena also seems to believe this, stating in the finale that she can't kill Sarah and Sarah can't kill her. This trope is {{Subverted}} when Sarah states she has a family and shoots Helena with intent to kill, and then DoubleSubverted when Helena survives anyway]].
* TykeBomb: It's not entirely clear how long they've had access to her, but it's strongly implied that [[spoiler:she's been brought up by the Proletheans to make her into a clone assassin. As of season 2, Sarah's using her as a deterrent to keep Rachel and other conspirators at bay. She actually knows she's being used, but is still holding out hope that Sarah would come to care for her as well]].
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler: To Sarah and Kira. Her loyalty even survives being shot point-blank in the chest by the former.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: It's basically not possible to discuss her now without spoiling significant aspects of the plot, as attested to how much of this entry is blanked out.

!!Rachel Duncan
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/proclone-1024x576_6837.jpg]]

Rachel Duncan works for the Dyad Institute as a "fixer" for the clone project. She offers Sarah answers and protection in exchange for her cooperation. [[spoiler:Except not really]].

* AlphaBitch: Among the clones, she has the superior attitude and same verbal tics.
* AntagonisticOffspring: [[spoiler: She becomes this to Ethan Duncan. It's not that she had anything against him, but he knows she's up to no good and stands against her because of it.]]
* BatmanGambit: Impressively cons Delphine and Sarah in order to [[spoiler:kidnap Kira right from under Mrs. S]].
* BlondesAreEvil: She employs rather unethical approaches to further the Dyad's agenda. For example, [[spoiler:she exploits Sarah's pain at finding Kira and Mrs. S missing in an effort to get her cooperation, when it turns out she never really had them]].
* TheChessmaster: Basically her hat to get the other clones (especially Sarah) to do her bidding. It's not always successful as even [[spoiler: Dr. Leekie]] questions her standards.
* ControlFreak: Likely a consequence of her being raised self-aware, which led her to develop a superiority complex.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Complete with an "office" that takes up an entire empty floor of a skyscraper. It's eventually revealed that even ''Leekie'' answers to her!
* CryCute: [[spoiler: When she meets with her father after believing him to be dead]].
* DisappearedDad: [[spoiler:Apparently, he's hiding from Leekie. He later commits suicide right in front of her]].
* TheDragon: She works for Marian Bowles.
** DragonInChief: For the majority of the season, Rachel is the primary antagonist, with Marian Bowles only starting to take action towards the end.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: [[spoiler: Not only did she seem to have a loving relationship with her parents, but she also seems quite saddened by Daniel's death. Her reunion with her father is the first time we really see Rachel's mask of professionalism crack. Despite orders from her superior, she also gives Leekie a chance to escape before Dyad can come after him]].
* EvilBrit
* EyeScream: [[spoiler: Sarah launches a pencil into her eye with a contraption Cosima and Scott created to help her escape the Dyad.]]
* GracefulLoser: Defied. Leekie mentions she does not take "personal insults" well.
* GreenEyedMonster: [[spoiler: Harbours a great deal of envy towards Sarah for being the only fertile clone, which leads her to kidnap Kira]].
* HappilyAdopted: [[spoiler:By the scientists behind "Project LEDA", at least until she was taken away from them]].
* IJustWantToBeSpecial: [[spoiler: Implied, given her resentment towards Sarah for being the only fertile clone and her anger over the Dyad being more interested in Sarah than her]].
* ImagineSpot: The audience gets to see how she's really feeling as she stoically keeps a straight face for the benefit of others. As she's being told that [[spoiler:she and most of the clones were barren by design]], the conversation continues interspersed with shots of her taking her seething anger out on the things in her office.
* InSeriesNickname: The "pro-clone" (initially coined by Felix) because she was a prototype raised by the organization that created them.
* IWillPunishYourFriendForYourFailure: Her modus operandi. So far she's held [[spoiler: Kira, Felix, and Cosima]] over Sarah's head to gain her cooperation.
* {{Jerkass}}: Apart from two PetTheDog moments, she never shows kindness or warmth to anyone.
* KickTheDog: [[spoiler: Acts spiteful to Sarah, knowingly endangers Cosima's life several times, and forces Delphine to go to another country without saying goodbye to her dying girlfriend.]]
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: She appears in the penultimate episode of season one and formally introduces herself in the finale.
* LaughingMad: [[spoiler: At one point during her VillainousBreakdown, she starts giggling hysterically while watching the HappierHomeMovie of her and her parents]].
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: She is notable for inverting this. While the other clones didn't learn of each other's existence until adulthood, Rachel had been aware since she was a child.
* ManipulativeBastard: She has many tricks up her sleeve in order to get the clones to cooperate. [[spoiler: This includes lying to Sarah about having Kira. Later she tries to pin the murder of her monitor Daniel on Felix, in an effort to get Sarah to surrender]].
* {{Narcissist}}: Discussed by Cosima and implied by the way she looks at herself in the mirror.
* PetTheDog:
** [[spoiler: She spares Leekie and covers up his disappearance not knowing that he's dead.]]
** She's also gentle with [[spoiler: Kira, despite having kidnapped her]]. Or at least as gentle as Rachel can be.
* [[PsychopathicManchild Psychopathic Womanchild]]: [[spoiler: A relatively rare female example who fits into type 3. She shows shades of this trope by the end of season 2, such as throwing a tantrum over Sarah's noncooperation, whom she is shown to have an extreme jealousy of due to her ability to have children, and crying in a rather childlike manner when her father dies.]] That last one was pretty justified though. Rachel has a tendency to come off as overly entitled, [[spoiler: smashing Kira's bone marrow in front of Sarah just to hurt her seems to be the Rachel equivalent of smashing toys and/or property.]]
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler: Though she does a good job of hiding it, she becomes increasingly unstable towards the end of the second season.]]
* SciFiBobHaircut: A fitting choice for the most "aware" of the clones.
* SmugSnake: Her high position for Dyad makes her very arrogant.
* TheStoic: She's very distant and formal with nearly everyone.
** NotSoStoic: After [[spoiler: Daniel's death]], her professional mask beings to crack, though she tries to hide it. Happens again when [[spoiler: she sees her father, who she believed to be dead for most of her life]]. Next episode initially has her back to her emotionless persona until [[spoiler:her father reveals the clones were made infertile on purpose, making Sarah and Helena "mistakes" of sorts. Although Rachel outwardly seems to agree with this decision, the scene is intercut with moments of Rachel angrily smashing up her office, indicating she is very conflicted inside]]. Then there is the Season 2 finale with her father which leads to her VillainousBreakdown.
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler: After learning the truth about her mother's death, reuniting with her father and being told by him that the clones are barren by design, Rachel begins to grow more and more unhinged. She finally loses it after her father commits suicide to prevent her from knowing his secrets.]]
* VillainsOutShopping: As seen by Cosima when she is passed Rachel's itinerary from Delphine. Her "appointment" with Sarah is sandwiched between a manicure and a Gyrotonics class.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Towards Marian Bowles.

Another clone from the Midwest of America. She produced a video diary that was later found by Cosima.

* BaldWoman: The various treatments she underwent to combat her illness caused her long, thick hair to fall out. When Cosima and Delphine [[spoiler: perform an autopsy on her]] in 2x03, Delphine says as much to Cosima.
* TheCutie: WordOfGod describes her as cheerful young woman with a heart of gold.
** BreakTheCutie: Compare her first video diary to her most recent one and you'll see that her illness had dramatically affected her.
** KillTheCutie: Episode [=2x03=] has [[spoiler:Delphine and Cosima doing an autopsy on her]].
* IllGirl: She developed a respiratory disorder [[spoiler: similar to what Katja and Cosima suffered from]]. As a result she became pale and weak.
* IncurableCoughOfDeath: Her respiratory illness, which eventually killed her.
* HotTeacher: She was a high school teacher and swim coach.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: She never learned that she was a clone or that her boyfriend was her monitor. [[spoiler:Considering the fact that she worked closely with the Dyad to find a cure for her mysterious ailment, it's certain the Dyad deliberately kept her ignorant.]]
* PassionateSportsGirl: Jennifer loved to swim. At one point she was pre-olympic for the 200 meter backstroke.
* PosthumousCharacter: Died from the same respiratory illness that some of the clones are suffering from.
* SmallRoleBigImpact: She only appeared in a handful of videos, but it was enough to demonstrate the full effect of the illness the clones are suffering from. [[spoiler: In performing an autopsy on her, Delphine and Cosima learned exactly what was causing the illness and how to combat it.]]

!!Tony (née Antoinette) Sawicki
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tony_4681.jpg]]

A transgender clone who appears on Felix's doorstep in the second half of season two. His friend Sammy had been in communication with Beth and sends him to her not knowing that she's long dead.

* BelligerentSexualTension: With Felix, which freaks Felix out a bit because Tony acts and looks very similar to Sarah.
* BlackSheep: It's heavily implied that he's estranged from his family.
* DiedInYourArmsTonight: His friend Sammy, who gives him a message to give to Beth before succumbing to an abdominal wound.
* ManlyGay: Identifies as male, is very overtly masculine, and is attracted to men.
* OppositeSexClone: Though because he's a trans man rather than from having a different chromosome.
* {{Transsexual}}: He was assigned female at birth but identifies as male. He is apparently still in the process of transitioning.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Sammy.

!!Charlotte Bowles
-->'''Played by''': Cynthia Galant

An 8-year-old clone, the only one made after the original set of clones. Also the only surviving clone of over 400 attempts to replicate them.

* GirlishPigtails: To represent the fact that she's the most innocent of the clones.
* HappilyAdopted: By Marian.
* IllGirl: She is seen [[spoiler: wearing a leg brace implying that she as a living clone (and the only one of over 400 to survive) is also having issues]].
* LastEpisodeNewCharacter: First appears in the last few minutes of season two.
* LockedOutOfTheLoop: Averted. She already knew about the other clones and Kira when she met Sarah.
* SoleSurvivor: Of the over 400 attempts to recreate Project Leda, she is the only one that lived.

!!Felix Dawkins

-->'''Played by''': Jordan Gavaris

Sarah's foster brother and most steadfast ally. He plays an important role in protecting the clone-sisters and providing support.

* BigBrotherInstinct: He has this for Sarah.
* CampGay: Felix is so fabulous it almost hurts. Still, he's a sympathetic character, as opposed to being a two-dimensional stereotype.
* TheConfidant: He's Sarah's support system and the only person that the clones trust. [[spoiler: Deconstructed in season two, when he grows frustrated with having to help Sarah with her problems while trying to managing a personal life that is constantly disrupted by the various conspiracies.]]
* CoolUncle: To Kira.
* DeadpanSnarker
* FoolishSiblingResponsibleSibling: Felix is the more responsible sibling, pointing out the flaws in Sarah's plan to impersonate Beth and that her constant roving will eventually mean she could lose custody of Kira. Even Sarah knows this:
--> '''Sarah:''' You are the best of us.
* FriendToAllChildren: He's surprisingly good with kids, though somewhat unorthodox. When babysitting Alison's kids, they have a lot of fun [[WholesomeCrossdresser crossdressing]].
* HookerWithAHeartOfGold: His main job is art, but he works as a male prostitute when he has to.
* InSeriesNickname: Sarah calls him Fee.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: With his sister Sarah.
* MrFanservice: A scene where Felix is wearing an apron. And nothing else. And is seen from the rear. He does this again in season 2, this time while painting a model!
** The season 2 premiere has him at a gay club wearing backless pants.
* NonActionGuy
* OddFriendship: Develops one with Alison (and, to a slightly lesser extent, Cosima) over the course of season 1.
* OnlySaneMan: Generally assumes the voice of reason and practicality among Sarah and the rest of the clones.
* PapaWolf: When Vic says he wants to get to know Kira, he absolutely refuses to let him anywhere near her.
* ParentalSubstitute: He's been something of a father figure for Kira, so [[spoiler:when Kira's biological father enters the picture]], he doesn't take it well.
* PerkyGoth: Technically a punk but otherwise fits the trope perfectly.
* SecretKeeper: The only non-clone in Clone Club. [[spoiler:At least, until Sarah decides to let Art in on the secret]].
* ShirtlessScene: In the first episode.
* StarvingArtist
* UndyingLoyalty: Why else would he have stuck by Sarah all this time?
* WhatTheHellHero: Usually the first to call Sarah out on her less savory actions.

!!Victor "Vic" Schmidt
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/victhedick_8343.jpg]]

-->'''Played by''': Michael Mando

Sarah's drug dealer ex-boyfriend, also known as "Vic the dick". He's obsessed with her, and refuses to let go.

* AmbiguouslyBrown: He's "urban," according to Alison
* ButtMonkey: He takes a lot of abuse. So far, he's lost a finger to gangsters, received a beating from Paul and was pepper-sprayed and tasered by Alison.
** TheChewToy
* CharacterDevelopment: [[spoiler:Apparently, he's become a Buddhist, and becomes friendlier to Alison. Unfortunately subverted: he's actually spying on her for Angie, as part of a deal to avoid going to jail]].
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome[=/=]DemotedToExtra: Disappears after [[spoiler:leading Art and Angie to Alison]], and is no longer part of the main cast as of season 2.
** TheBusCameBack: After being absent for the first half of season 2, he returns [[spoiler: to join Alison in rehab]].
* DomesticAbuser: Has hit Sarah it the past, though she hits back.
* EntitledToHaveYou: He all but demands that Sarah give him another chance.
* HeelFaithTurn: He apparently became a Buddhist in season 2, [[spoiler: though its unclear how much of it is genuine and how much is just part of his cover]].
* ItsAllAboutMe: He is incapable of thinking about other people.
** He makes Sarah's faked death entirely about him and the pain it causes ''him'', not even giving a damn about Felix.
** He also keeps barging into Sarah's affairs for his own satisfaction, despite the fact that she doesn't love him and that he always makes things worse for her.
** Even his apparent [[spoiler: befriending of Alison is just part of a deal to avoid jail time.]]
* KarmaHoudini: However badly he's been injured for continuing to interfere with Sarah's life, he still got away with the $20,000 from the cocaine Sarah initially stole from him. And he has yet to answer for [[spoiler:inadvertently leading the cops to Alison]].
* {{Jerkass}}: He's a rude, self-centered bully.
* ManlyTears: Breaks down in tears ([[{{Narm}} several times]]) when he finds out that Sarah's "dead". Interestingly, he isn't displayed sympathetically because of this, since he ''is'' a {{Jerkass}} and ButtMonkey.
* TheMole: [[spoiler:Angie's using him to find out more about the clones from Alison, in exchange for his charges being dropped]].
* TheLostLenore: Arguably deconstructed. He cares more about Sarah when she's "dead" than when she's alive.
* SpannerInTheWorks: By chance he runs into Alison thinking she's Sarah as part of a new con. He threatens to ruin the whole clone conspiracy due to his petty vindictiveness.
* TheThingThatWouldNotLeave: Hangs out at Felix's place [[DrowningMySorrows drinking]] after Sarah's funeral. Felix draws the line when he mentions that he wants to get to know Kira.
* TokenMinority: Lampshaded when Alison describes him as "urban".
* TropaholicsAnonymous: When we last see Vic in the season 1 finale he's at a meeting. However, he's not on-board with the "making amends" part of the program so he [[spoiler:sells Sarah out to the cops, unintentionally outing Alison to Art in her place]].

!!Paul Dierden
[[quoteright:240:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/paul_dierden_jpg_2219.jpg]]
-->'''Played by''': Dylan Bruce

Beth's boyfriend. He notices "Beth's" strange behavior and it upsets him deeply.

* {{Badass}}: Judging from his background as a "private military contractor" and his beatdown of Vic.
* BecomingTheMask: He was genuinely fond of Beth and wanted to take her away to South America. [[spoiler: Now he seems to be falling for Sarah]].
* {{Blackmail}}: [[spoiler: He killed six Marines in combat and tried to cover it up. The Neolutionists found out and are holding this over his head]].
* BedTrick: He sleeps with Sarah thinking she's Beth. [[spoiler:Subverted when he later implies to the Dyad that he suspected she was someone else the whole time.]]
* BeneathSuspicion: [[spoiler: He works for whoever created the clones. But, Beth came to realize that there was something ''off'' about him. It's implied that she discovered his deception and [[WasItAllALie was heartbroken over it]]]].
* CrazyJealousGuy: Averted. [[spoiler:He doesn't seem to be particularly distraught when he finds out Sarah hooked up with Cal again. Most likely justified because he has much more immediate problems to worry about, like Dyad's continued blackmail of him.]]
* DatingCatwoman: His relationship with Sarah has some elements of this.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler: Turns firmly to the clones' side after episode 7. But the Neolutionists still have a [[{{Blackmail}} hold]] on him]].
** HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: [[spoiler: Bordering on DoubleReverseQuadrupleAgent. He is so hard to read it is impossible to know ''who'' he is truly working with between Rachel, Leekie, Sarah, and Mrs. S. Moreover, Tony's friend Sammy indicated before his death that Paul may have his own agenda, and felt that this was important enough that the clones needed to know it]].
* KissOfDistraction: Though it quickly becomes a shag of distraction.
* TheMole: [[spoiler: Initially, he was spying on Beth for the Neolutionists]].
** ReverseMole: As of season 2, [[spoiler:he now appears to be spying on Rachel for Sarah]].
* MrFanservice: He is very handsome and gets a lot of bed scenes with Sarah. On one occasion he was shown walking around his apartment completely naked.
* OutOfFocus: Since becoming [[spoiler:Rachel's personal assistant]], he disappeared for a few episodes.
* PrivateMilitaryContractors: His background.
* ShirtlessScene: He gets quite a few.
* UnderstandingBoyfriend: He seems pretty supportive of Beth, who had a myriad of mental issues. [[spoiler: Though there was a reason for that, as he was her "monitor" for the people who were studying her]].

Beth's long-time partner on the force. He's one of the first people to notice something wrong with "Beth".

* ActionDad: Mentions in passing that he has kids.
* {{Blackmail}}: [[spoiler: Steals the money that Sarah took out of Beth's account and holds it over her until "Beth" gets back on the force]].
* ByTheBookCop: Subverted. [[spoiler: He holds the money over Sarah-as-Beth's head because he helped Beth make the Maggie Chen shooting look like an accident]].
* TheConfidant: [[spoiler: Becomes this to Sarah once he sides with the clones]].
* FairCop
* GenreBlind: [[spoiler: Despite the evidence and knowledge about the existence of several clones, the idea of human cloning never crosses his mind. Subverted, when Sarah lets him in on the conspiracy and he notes how things make sense now]].
* GoodIsNotNice
* HeroAntagonist: He's trying to solve [[spoiler: Katja's]] case, which puts the clones at risk of being discovered.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler: Sarah had to quit Beth's job to avoid him]] because he knew Beth too well to be fooled much longer.
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler: He gives "Beth" her money back after she saves his life]].
* PoliceAreUseless: Averted. The fact that he and the other cops are actually good at their jobs makes the whole conspiracy that much more complicated.
* SecretKeeper: He knew about Beth's drug issues [[spoiler: and that her shooting of Maggie Chen wasn't an accident; though he didn't know exactly why Beth had to kill her]].
** As of [=2x02=], [[spoiler:he's the newest member of Clone Club]].
* ThoseTwoGuys: Seems to be this along with Angie after "Beth" quits the force.
* TokenMinority
* UndyingLoyalty: To Beth, even after he finds out about her death. [[spoiler:He seems to transfer this to Clone Club once he finds out about them]].

* AlliterativeName
* {{BFG}}: She keeps a double-barrelled shotgun by her side for protection.
* TheCaretaker: For [[spoiler:Ethan Duncan, who's hiding from Leekie]].
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler: She turns out to be the one behind Kira's disappearance. She also has something to do with Project LEDA, but her connection to it has yet to be revealed in full]].
** Further Chessmastery is demonstrated in 2.07 when she [[spoiler:sets Leekie and Rachel against each other]].
* TheConfidant: [[spoiler: Sarah and Alison decide to trust her with their secret. Incidentally, she actually knows more about them than they do]].
* CrazyPrepared: She has a number of defenses and escape routes in place should anything happen to Sarah, Felix, or Kira, as well as a network of friends and associates to call upon for help. She describes her system as bulletproof.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: By her comments in season 2, it's implied she was involved with the IRA by gun running for them. And then there's [[spoiler:her ties to Project LEDA and hiding Ethan Duncan from Leekie]].
* FriendlySniper: Episode [=2x02=] shows she's quite handy with a rifle.
* TheGunslinger: With her aforementioned double-barrelled shotgun.
* MamaBear: At first, she tries to keep Kira and Sarah apart to protect Kira because she doesn't think Sarah is a fit mother. She chills out slightly in episode four.
** Episode 1.07 reveals that she [[spoiler: moved to Canada, even though it meant completely starting over, to hide Sarah from something that was looking for her in England. Special notice to the fact that she didn't even know what that something was; she went on the hunch of a friend. Though that may be a lie]].
** In 2.02 [[spoiler:it's revealed she kidnapped Kira to keep her safe from the Neolutionists and the Proletheans. When the two people she's working with turn out to be moles for the Proletheans she kills them without hesitation]].
* TheMole: Might be this, as the finale reveals [[spoiler:she may have been one of the scientists involved with creating the clones in the first place]]. It later turns out [[spoiler:she might be part of a tangential project involving the clones, "LEDA"]].
* OnlyKnownByInitials: She's almost always called "Mrs. S." or just "S". The closed captions in episode 3 identify her as "Siobhan". Her full name is revealed in episode 8.
* ParentalSubstitute: For Sarah, Felix, and Kira.
* SecretKeeper: And man, does she have a whole lot of 'em.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** [[spoiler: Organized her house being ransacked and Kira's disappearance to protect Kira. But she did this without bothering to tell Sarah and Felix first, leaving Sarah extremely pissed off at Mrs. S. To make things worse, she planned to leave with Kira and go back to the UK]].
** Gets another one in the series two finale when [[spoiler:she arranges to have Helena kidnapped by the military. In her defence, this may have been the only way she could have freed Sarah and Kira from Dyad, but she herself acknowledges that Sarah will probably never forgive her for this.]]

Sarah's 8-year-old daughter. She went to live with Mrs. S. when Sarah disappeared.

* CreepyChild: She's a little too calm and oracular for someone still in grade school.
* GuileHero: Kira must have gotten it from her mother.
** While [[spoiler: hiding with her father under assumed names]], she [[DeliberatelyCuteChild charms]] a police officer to ward off his suspicions.
** [[spoiler: While in Dyad custody, she pickpockets a cellphone off a nurse and sends Cal to Mrs. S. so they can collaborate on an escape plan for herself and Sarah]].
* HealingFactor[=/=]MadeOfIron: [[spoiler: Was relatively fine not long after being run over by a car. Sarah's worried that being experimented on made her pass this (and potentially less beneficial things) to Kira, and the doctor's reaction to her X-rays suggests that Sarah's worry might be true]].
* InSeriesNickname: Sarah and Felix called her "(Little) Monkey". [[spoiler: Helena]] dubbed her "Angel".
* LittleMissConArtist: Shows shades of this due to traits picked up from her mother and uncle.
* MacguffinGirl: Being the biological daughter of a clone makes her a very important scientific specimen from the Neolutionists' point of view. It's not clear yet how the Proletheans see her, but the fact that the Neolutionists want her is enough to warrant their interest. [[spoiler:Mrs. S. alludes she's part of "Project LEDA", along with her mother Sarah. It also turns out that her stems cells are the only means of treating Cosima's autoimmune disorder]].
* MoralityChain: Implied strongly that Sarah would be a much worse problem if she didn't have her daughter anchoring her.
* MoralityPet: [[spoiler: To Helena]].
* OracularUrchin: One of her first scenes has her drawing a picture of Sarah with [[spoiler: [[BloodFromTheMouth blood pouring from her mouth]]]].
* ParentalAbandonment: She has a less-than-ideal home life.
** DisappearedDad: [[spoiler: Cal is her father but he didn't know it until he first met her]].
** MissingMom: Sarah left her with Mrs. S for 10 months without an explanation.
** RaisedByGrandparents: Well, raised by her mother's foster mother.
* {{Protectorate}}: For Sarah, Mrs. S, Felix, and [[spoiler: Helena]]. Neither Alison nor Cosima know her very well, but both care about her very much.
* SherlockScan: She's very perceptive, especially for a little kid. [[spoiler: She could tell Alison was impersonating her mother right off, that Helena wouldn't hurt her, and that Cal was her biological father]].
* TheStoic: An unusually young example. ''Nothing'' fazes her.
** NotSoStoic: [[spoiler: When Daniel tries to kidnap her in 2.03, she screams for her mother, sounding more desperate and terrified by the second]].
* SympathyForTheDevil: [[spoiler: The only person who sees past Helena's terrifying and homicidal behaviour to the troubled child who was forced to learn that behaviour as a survival tactic]].

* ExtremeDoormat: Downplayed. He's not a complete doormat, but he lets Alison treat him pretty badly.
* HappilyMarried: Subverted, despite the "childhood sweetheart" premise. As of [=2x09=], though, their relationship seems to be getting better.
* HighschoolSweethearts: With Alison, although right now they're not very sweet.

* YourCheatingHeart: He told Alison that he'd had an affair, but this is most likely a lie to get her to drop her suspicions.

* SatelliteCharacter: They exist solely to be Alison's kids.
* ThoseTwoGuys

* CruelAndUnusualDeath: [[spoiler: In the Season 1 finale, she dies in a manner worthy of FinalDestination. Her scarf gets caught in the garbage disposal, causing it to slowly choke her as it's sucked in. Alison just stands there and watches her die]].
* GoGetterGirl: An older version. She was involved in a lot of community activities.

Birth mother to two of the clones, who hails from Cape Town, South Africa. She emigrated to the UK and was hired as a surrogate by a "couple" who were really Neolutionists. After realizing the children she was carrying were to be part of a medical experiment, she escaped and gave birth to the twins, then gave them up.

* BloodFromTheMouth: [[spoiler: While she's dying]].
* ChocolateBaby: She's black and her birth daughters are white. Justified as she's a surrogate.
* [[DaddyHadAGoodReasonForAbandoningYou Mommy Had A Good Reason For Abandoning You]]: She had to give her daughters up because she couldn't take care of them.
* GenreSavvy: She always seems to know when someone's up to no good [[spoiler: except when it came to Helena]].

!!Det. Angela Deangelis
-->'''Played by''': Inga Cadranel

A member of the police for who works with Art and Beth.

* CowboyCop: She arrests Sarah without a warrant or probable cause in the season 2 premiere, although she soon lets her go with Art's prodding. She also continues to pursue the Katja case, even though it's officially been dropped.
* GoodIsNotNice: She appears to have a particular disdain for Sarah (mainly because she tried to takeover Beth's life) , but you can't exactly say she's a bad person. [[spoiler: Her continued pursuit of Alison and blackmail of Vic pushes her further towards moral grayness, however.]]
* HeroAntagonist: She's trying to solve [[spoiler: Katja's]] case, which puts the clones at risk of being discovered.
* InspectorJavert: She continues prodding into the [[spoiler:Katja]] case, long after Art has given up [[spoiler:and later got mixed up with it]]. As of [=2x06=], [[spoiler:she's using Vic to keep tabs on Alison]].
* NightmareFetishist: She's ''fascinated'' by the goings-on at the morgue, the more gruesome, the better. It's actually kind of adorable.
* PoliceAreUseless: Averted.
* ReplacementGoldfish: For Beth. She's pretty pleased with it.
* TheRival: Sarah suggests that she was this to Beth, but judging from Angela's reaction to [[spoiler: learning that Beth had been DeadAllAlong]], she might have been a FriendlyRival.
* ThoseTwoGuys: She partners up with Art [[spoiler: after Sarah quits Beth's job]].

!!Cal Morrison
-->'''Played by''': Michiel Huisman

One of Sarah's past lovers. He first appears in the second season.

* BadassBeard

* DisappearedDad: [[spoiler: He is one to Kira, but in his defense he didn't even know Sarah was pregnant when they broke up]].
* EruditeStoner: He's a genius inventor living semi-off-the-grid in a nicely furnished cabin, and a police officer who is a friend looks the other way regarding weed growing in his backyard.

* {{Adorkable}}
* BrainyBrunette
* GenreSavvy: [[spoiler: He knew Cosima had been studying clones for some time, based on the DNA she shared with him. Though he's not quite savvy enough to realize Cosima herself was the "[=324B21=]" specimen they've been analyzing the whole time]].
* GirlOnGirlIsHot: Has a less-than-subtle reaction as he watches Cosima and Delphine kiss.
* HopelessSuitor: To Cosima. [[spoiler: Towards the end of Season 2, though, he appears to bear no ill will about having his crush thwarted, and he responds to Cosima's clone confession with grace and kindness.]]
* SecretKeeper: [[spoiler: He discovers that the stem cells used to treat Cosima must have come from a daughter or niece to be viable, which of course means Kira. Delphine demands he keep this information to himself, which makes Scott uncomfortable given his affection for Cosima. He's let off the hook early, though, as Cosima finds out anyhow in the next episode.]]
* SmartPeopleWearGlasses
* UndyingLoyalty: [[spoiler: He seems to do Cosima's bidding regardless of how little she offers him in terms of information or kindness, mostly because of the torch he carries for her. They do become closer at Dyad, however, and Scott seems to pledge himself to helping Cosima even though she's clearly in love with someone else. After his positive reaction to her 'coming out' as a clone, it seems he might be the truest ally she has. By the finale this extends to the other clones as well, since he helps Cosima break Sarah out of the institute]].

!!Andrew Peckham, a.k.a. [[spoiler:Ethan Duncan]]
-->'''Played by:''' Andrew Gillies

A man taking care of a lot of birds in a house crammed full of old papers. [[spoiler:Actually Rachel's adoptive father, hiding from Aldous Leekie]].

* AffectionateNickname: [[spoiler:Calls his clones his "little girls"]].
* BadassBoast: "I'm nobody's pawn."
* CloudCuckoolander: Appears to be this, what with his seeming obsession with his birds. 2.07 hints that this may be a case of ObfuscatingInsanity, however.
* CrazyPrepared: Gives Kira his old copy of ''The Island of Dr. Moreau'' which also happens to contain a significant amount of his notes [[spoiler:including, it is implied, the key to the cipher for his work]].
* DidNotThinkThisThrough: [[spoiler: The infertility sequence he added to the clones' DNA had the side effect of triggering a fatal autoimmune disorder. When he learns of this, he sets off to correct it.]]
* DisappearedDad: [[spoiler:Of Rachel. Would be played perfectly straight if his DNA played a part in the clones' creation]].
* DrivenToSuicide: [[spoiler: He drinks poisoned tea to prevent the Dyad from accessing any more of his work.]]
* ForScience: [[spoiler:Was among the scientists who first created the clones, purely for scientific advancement, until the military took over]].
* FromBadToWorse: [[spoiler:First, the military became interested in the cloning experiment he and his wife were part of. Then, the Neolutionists took over the Dyad Institute, which eventually culminated in his wife getting killed and his adoptive daughter stolen from him. Presently, Leekie has been looking for him, presumably to kill him. And then he discovers his daughter is a sociopath and wants his research for unethical ends, which ultimately leads to [[DrivenToSuicide his suicide]]]].
* NervesOfSteel: He's hard to intimidate.
* WalkingSpoiler: Due to his importance to the plot.

* KilledToUpholdTheMasquerade
* TheMole: [[spoiler: She infiltrated the Neolutionists, then reported back to the others]].
* PosthumousCharacter: She was killed by Beth [[spoiler: to protect the clones]].

* AbusiveParents: He acts as a parental figure to [[spoiler: Helena]], but he's anything but loving.
* AssholeVictim: [[spoiler: He's killed by Mark on Hank's orders]].
* BackForTheDead: [[spoiler:Disappears for about three episodes and is then killed after reappearing]].
* BadBoss[=/=]WouldHitAGirl: He's physically abusive to [[spoiler: Helena]]. She's too far under his control to fight back [[spoiler: until he threatens [[{{Protectorate}} Kira]]]].
* BoomHeadshot: [[spoiler: In 2.02, he's shot by Mark with a bolt gun]].
* BreakThemByTalking: Because [[spoiler: Helena]] is very capable of kicking his ass, Tomas controls her through verbal and emotional abuse that borders on brainwashing.
* TheCaretaker: Subverted. He nursed [[spoiler: Helena]] back to health after the events of episode 5, but is verbally and emotionally abusive to her. Once she recovers, he starts beating her into obedience.
* TheFundamentalist: At first, he appears to represent the belief system of the Proletheans, since he's the only such character onscreen aside from the less-reliable Helena. The second episode of season 2 reveals he was an aberration, and that other Proletheans are more accepting of science than he was.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: 2.02 reveals that he scars himself in a similar method to Helena's.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: [[spoiler:After cruelly locking Helena inside a small cage, Sarah finds her and, rather than kill him outright, decides to imprison him in the very same cage]].
* ItIsDehumanizing: Tomas refers to "The Imposter" (i.e. Sarah) as "it" in his conversation with [[spoiler: Helena]].
* KickTheSonOfABitch: In [=S02E02=] [[spoiler:fans probably weren't too disappointed to see him get shot through the head with a bolt gun]]. In the following episode, [[spoiler:Helena]] even says "Good riddance."

[[spoiler:And then [[DoubleSubversion Double Subverted]] when we see that he plans to have Helena impregnated whether she wants it or not, and ''especially'' [[MouthStitchedShut how he treats]] his natural daughter Gracie]].
* AffablyEvil
* BigBad: For [[spoiler: Helena]]'s season two storyline, when he's established as the leader of the Proletheans.
* BullyingADragon: Whether through ignorance of what she's capable of, megalomania, or ideological inability to believe that a woman could be a threat to him, he spends the whole storyline behaving abusively to Helena and to other people in front of her. The sole question for the average viewer is just how long it'll take her to lose her patience and off him.
* {{Cult}}: He's the leader of one.
* EvilGenius: He's a MIT grad with a lab hidden on his compound.
* TheFundamentalist: Played with. He's a Prolethean, but studied at MIT and unlike Tomas, believes "religion without science is blind".
* GroinAttack[=/=]ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: [[spoiler: Helena stabs the embryo-implanting rod, with which he impregnated both Helena and Gracie (and likely many other women), either into his rectum or through his perineum, though thankfully we don't get to see much of it. If that didn't kill him, he probably died after Helena set the entire compound on fire]].
* ItsAllAboutMe[=/=]{{Narcissist}}: Heavily implied, as he believes he's entitled to [[spoiler: impregnate many women with Helena's eggs because she a "scientific impossibility". All of them were fertilized with his sperm because, in his mind, he's the only man worthy of being their father.]]
* LaserGuidedKarma: [[spoiler: Impregnating his own daughter with his and Helena's embryos was a ''baaaad'' idea and led to Gracie, Helena, and Mark betraying him, with fatal results.]]
* OldManMarryingAChild: He marries [[spoiler: Helena]] against her will. This is despite his already being married to Bonnie, who appears closer to his age.

* TheDragon: She's Hank's [[spoiler: main]] wife and apparent second-in-command.
* EvilMatriarch
* TheFundamentalist: Like her husband.
* OnlySaneMan: She's clearly not exactly ''sane'', but she recognizes that having an unstable [[spoiler: Helena]] in the same location as her [[spoiler: also unstable]] daughter might not be the best idea.
* PutOnTheBus: Hank sent her to [[spoiler: lure young women to the farm so he could use them as surrogates for Helena's children]].
* StepfordSmiler: She performs her duties, whether it be laundry or assisting in [[spoiler: Tomas's murder or Helena's impregnation]] with the same unperturbed air. Her one break has been when she discovered [[spoiler: her daughter strangled into unconsciousness]] and promptly screamed for her husband.

!!Gracie Johanssen
-->'''Played by''': Zoé De Grand Maison
Hank's young daughter.

* AbusiveParents: [[spoiler: Henrik and Bonnie ''stitch her mouth shut'' as punishment for refusing to tell them what happened between her and Helena, and there's a chance such a thing has happened to her before. Then her father forcibly impregnates her with embryos that were fertilized by him]].
* DarkChick
* EvilRedhead
* TheFundamentalist: Played straighter than her father. It's also the reason she despises [[spoiler: Helena]].
* ItIsDehumanizing: She hardly considers [[spoiler: Helena]] human and refers to her as "It".
* MedicalRapeAndImpregnate: [[spoiler:Bonnie threatens her with being forcibly impregnated with Helena's child in 2.05. Henrik eventually makes good on this threat]].
* MouthStitchedShut: [[spoiler: When she's being punished by her parents for not telling them what happened between her and Helena]].
