!!Boog
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/boog.png]]
->Voiced by:\\
Creator/MartinLawrence (first film)\\
Creator/MikeEpps (second film)\\
Creator/MatthewJMunn (third film)\\
Donny Lucas (''Scared Silly'')
The main protagonist of the first film. A bear raised by Forest Ranger Beth, treated like a beloved pet, who performs in shows put on to teach people about wild animals. A performance gone wrong leads to him being set free, and after a movie of misadventures, he decides to remain in the woods.
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: He is quite heavyset (due to being a bear), yet he still has his moments of athleticism.
* BearsAreBadNews: [[BearyFriendly Generally not the case]], but if he gets ticked off, he gets ''ticked off''. [[spoiler:When he thinks that Elliot died to protect him from Shaw, he ties the hunter up ''with his gun'' and intimidates him into surrendering.]]
* BearyFriendly: Being a domesticated bear and all, he's quite harmless as far as grizzlies go.
* BearyFunny: He rides a unicycle for crackers, to start with.
* BerserkButton: Being told he weighs 1,200 pounds instead of 900.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: A very friendly and harmless grizzly bear, but whatever you do, do ''not'' hurt any of his friends. [[BigBad Shaw]] learned this the hard way.
* BigEater: He's usually the first member of the group to get hungry. However, he could go with just some fishy crackers through most of the first film.
* BigFun: Large and heavyset, yet he is generally easy to get along with.
* BigGuyLittleGuy: With Elliot, respectively.
* ButtMonkey: Throughout the first film. Mainly because he was a CityMouse, had a hard time adapting to the forest life, and got beaten around by the other woodland creatures.
* CityMouse: He was a domesticated bear raised by Beth and has a hard time adapting to the forest [[spoiler: until the end where he decides to stay with Elliot and the other animals]].
* DefrostingIceKing: With Elliot in the first film. Boog initially can't stand him at all and takes convincing to do nice things to him, after a while of bonding with his friend, he eventually grows to truly care for him and reciprocate his friendship.
* FatAndSkinny: The Fat to Elliot's Skinny. {{Justified|Trope}} in that Elliot is a deer while Boog is a bear.
* FishOutOfWater: A big part of his character arc in the first film is him slowly adapting to life in the forest, as such his first days are rough there with him finding it hard to truly get accustomed to the wild life.
* GentleGiant: A 900-pound grizzly bear who wouldn't hurt a fly.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: He and Elliot are inseparable friends ever since truly becoming best friends at the end of the first film.
* IChooseToStay: When Beth comes to pick him up and return him to Timberlane at the end of the first film, Boog decides to stay in the forest as he's come to view it as a true home and has made too many friends to leave them behind.
* InkSuitActor: Basically a bear version of Martin Lawrence.
* IntentionalWeightGain: A RunningGag in the second movie is people getting his weight wrong, assuming he's 12,000 pounds when actually he's 900 pounds. At one point, he excuses himself by saying that the fur makes him look a hundred pounds heavier, and besides, he's been bulking up to hibernate
%%* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: The "jerk" part is more prominent in the first film, though it shows up in other installments too. - This trope is zero-context - don't uncomment until you've described how he is jerk, and how his heart of gold shows -
* TheLeader: Essentially acts as this to the forest animals after he helped organize them to fight back against the hunters in the Open Season, in fact in the third film his identical double Douglas exploits this after switching places with him, using his size and strength along with Boog's status to get his way.
* {{Mooning}}: At the beginning of the first film, Boog sticks his butt out the car and slaps it at a couple of people on the sidewalk.
* NiceGuy: He can be a bit grumpy at times but is otherwise friendly and well-mannered.
* ShakingTheRump: Shakes his butt during the convenience store scene.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Fishy crackers, so much that when he is first hungry in the forest he tries to have a go at the salmon since he's got a taste for fish.
* UnstoppableRage: In the first film, he goes ''ballistic'' when Elliot disrupts his performance.
-->'''Elliot:''' I chipped a hoof.\\
'''Boog:''' Chipped a-- You chipped a-- [[IllKillYou I'm gonna kill you!]]

[[folder:Elliot]]
!!Elliot
[[quoteright:284:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elliot_openseason.png]]
->Voiced by:\\
Creator/AshtonKutcher (first film)\\
Creator/JoelMcHale (second film)\\
Maddie Taylor (third film)\\
Will Townsend (''Scared Silly'')
A one-antlered mule deer that, after a series of accidents and misadventures, eventually becomes Boog's best friend.
-----
* AccidentalMisnaming: Being called "Smelliot" by [[JerkJock Ian]] or one time when Boog was having fun at an gas station:
-->'''Boog:''' ''(with helium in his voice)'' ''Hello, [[JustifiedTrope idiot]].''\\
'''Elliot:''' ''(also with helium in his voice)'' ''It's Ell-iot!''.
* BabiesEverAfter: Has three fawns with Giselle by the third movie, consisting of two daughters and a son.
* BadassAdorable: Being an PluckyComicRelief who can [[TookALevelInBadass take a level in badass]] whenever he needs to.
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: He starts following Boog after the latter unties him from Shaw's truck and calls him "Buddy".
* BigGuyLittleGuy: The little guy to Boog's big guy.
* BumblingDad: In the third film, he makes himself look foolish with his misunderstandings in front of Giselle.
* ButtMonkey: He loses his antlers, is constantly bullied around by Ian, and suffers from having a lot more bad luck throughout the sequels.
* ChaoticStupid: Due to his dimwitted, selfish, and sometimes unpredictable nature, he ''is'' this at times with being problematic to Boog and his friends.
%%* TheChewToy: Since ''Open Season 1,'' his incidents are usually played for laughs, second next to the rabbits.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: In ''Open Season 1'', he went from being a cowardly, bumbling, dimwitted, and clownish deer to becoming more confident in defending the forest from Shaw and the hunters when he needed to.
* TheDeterminator: Goes to astronomic lengths to "take the Boo out of Boog" in ''Scared Silly''. Unfortunately, he can't convince anybody of his hare-brained schemes (except the Only Sane Doe).
* TheDitz: A very dimwitted mule deer that seems to [[TookALevelInDumbass get dumber in every adaption]].
* {{Expy}}: Of [[WesternAnimation/IceAge Sid]] and [[Franchise/{{Shrek}} Donkey]]. They all share being optimistic, clueless and empty-headed [[PluckyComicRelief comic reliefs]] when paired with the main protagonists in a serious-minded (if sorta wacky) setting, and they all share being [[RuleOfFunny prone to slapstick or foolish behavior for the sake of comedy]].
* FatAndSkinny: The Skinny to Boog's Fat. {{Justified|Trope}} in that Elliot is a deer while Boog is a bear.
* {{Flanderization}}: While he was rather dense in the first film, the later films (particularly ''Scared Silly'') have made him outright TooDumbToLive.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: With the exception of Boog and Giselle, Elliot isn't very well-like among the woodland animals due to his stupidity and carelessness.
* FunnyAnimal: Doesn't wear any clothes, but walks upright on his hind legs most of the time.
%%* GeniusDitz: Has shades of this every once in a while.
* HeroicSacrifice: He does this when Shaw has Boog at gunpoint during the climax in the first movie, [[TakingTheBullet launching himself in the line of fire and saving his best friend]]. Fortunately, he survives.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Boog, the two are inseparable.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: He lied to Boog about knowing how to get back to Timberline because he hoped Boog would be his friend if they hung out.
* InkSuitActor: His design is basically Ashton Kutcher as a deer.
* InsufferableImbecile: He is a self-absorbed idiot who gets on everyone's nerves and is the one responsible for all of Boog's problems in the first place.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Starts becoming this after ''Open Season 2'' with him being [[TooDumbToLive too stupid and selfish for his own good]], yet he can resolve things when he needs to.
* KarmicButtMonkey: He does get hurt and humiliated a lot, but he generally brings it upon himself with his reckless behavior.
* TheLancer: Is this to Boog.
* LovableCoward: Occasionally, due to his dimwitted nature or his trying to get out of danger. This shown in ''Open Season 1,'' when he escapes the gas station he was in with Boog so that he wasn't caught but was unable to rescue Boog from the sugar not allowing him to realize what's going on.
* TheMillstone: His stupidity and carelessness tend to cause problems for everyone else, Boog in particular.
* MooseAreIdiots: A relatively rare example of a deer ''other'' than a moose having traits of this trope; he's not at all the sharpest tool in the shed.
* OverlyLongTongue: Is shown to have this in the first movie.
* SidekickCreatureNuisance: He's a lot smaller than the others in his herd, while also being self-absorbed and having quite the knack for getting on others' nerves.
* StalkerWithoutACrush: He becomes this to Boog when the latter frees him from Shaw's truck, refusing to leave him alone even when Boog tells him to scram.
* TakingTheBullet: Elliot jumps in front of Shaw's gun near the end of the first movie to protect Boog. He lives, but he loses his remaining antler.
* TearsOfRemorse: He has this in the first film when Boog leaves him at the hunting grounds, realizing that the latter was right about him being at fault for everything that went wrong.
* TookALevelInDumbass: He was never the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he became progressively dumber over the course of the franchise.
* TookALevelInKindness: In ''2'' and ''3'', while still dumb, he is noticeably less self-centered and more altruistic than in the first film, even if he still causes problems with his inability to think things through.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Woo-Hoo chocolate bars.
%%* UglyGuyHotWife: The former, not ugly at all.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Beth]]
!!Beth
[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/beth_5.jpg]]
->Voiced by:\\
Creator/DebraMessing
A forest ranger that lovingly raised Boog.
----
* ArchEnemy: Shaw; the two frequently argue with each other regarding their philosophies on animal hunting, and have apparently opposed each other for a long time.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She is genuinely a sweet woman who cares about the welfare of animals. However, she puts her foot down when Shaw hunts before open season starts and when Boog sneaks out of her garage to hang out with Elliot.
* CannotTellAJoke: Her [[NoSenseOfHumor sense of humor]] isn't as good [[HumorDissonance as she thinks]].
* ChuckCunninghamSyndrome: Completely vanished from the series after the first film, barring a flashback appearance in ''Scared Silly''.
* FriendToAllLivingThings: Not much is shown on-screen, but she's very good with animals, having raised Boog as a cub and regularly putting on nature shows for the town's children.
* HartmanHips: No wonder why her shorts are so huge, almost loose and flowing like a skirt!
* IResembleThatRemark: She denies having a maternal attitude with Boog when Gordy tells her that she’s mothering the bear. A few seconds later, she’s yelling at Boog to go to bed when he’s tapping on the garage window trying to get her attention.
* NiceGirl: She's an utter sweetheart when it comes to Boog and [[FriendToAllChildren children]].
* RedheadInGreen: She has bright red hair and wears a green ranger shirt and matching hat.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Shaw]]
!!Shaw
[[quoteright:275:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shaw_open_season.jpg]]
->Voiced by:\\
Creator/GarySinise (first film)\\
Creator/TrevorDevall (''Scared Silly'')
The main antagonist of the first and fourth films. A sinister hunter that enjoys his hobby, though paranoia and a series of events involving Boog and Elliot later make him think he's the last defense against an animal uprising.
----
* ArchEnemy: To Beth and Boog, the former for being an animal-hating hunter who enjoys getting on her nerves with his sadistic attitude for the kicks and the latter due to Shaw viewing him as a valuable trophy and later on for humiliating and escaping him more than once.
* ArbitrarySkepticism: He believes animals will overthrow mankind but doesn't believe Bigfoot is real, despite both ideas being as farfetched as it gets. And he doesn't believe in the werewolf until he thinks he encounters one in ''Scared Silly''.
* AxCrazy: He loves attacking defenseless animals without provocation: he intentionally swerves off-road to hit Elliot with his truck, tries to kill Boog when he realises the latter's in his house, and he's all-too-happy to attempt to kill the duo when he believes an animal uprising is happening.
* BigBad: Of the first film and ''Scared Silly''.
* BigNo: At the end of the first film he lets out a big one when Bob and Bobbie mistake him for a "Homo Sasquatchus", strap him to their car after accidentally running him over and prepare to take him somewhere.
* BlatantLies: He claims to Beth and Gordy that he accidentally ran Elliott over when they see the deer strapped to his truck, his laughter after remembering going off the road to hit Elliott betrays any attempt at pretending to be sincere which Beth notices.
* TheBusCameBack: After being absent in the first two sequels, Shaw returns in ''Scared Silly'', where he is still the BigBad.
* CompanionCube: With his gun. He names it Lorraine, treats it to a campfire after the waterfall incident and is shown to be pissed when it is taken away from him.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: The other citizens of Timberline seem to unanimously agree that living alone in the deep forest in a dilapidated old cabin and revolving his entire life and personality around hunting hasn't done Shaw's mental health any favors. Not to mention he spouts conspiracy theories about how animals will rise up and enslave humans if not kept in check.
* {{Determinator}}: Give him credit, he can be pretty damn driven when he feels like it. A major action setpiece of the first film is him giving chase when Boog and Elliot try to escape him by diving into the river by ''driving his damn truck into the river himself and using it as a makeshift speedboat''. In the climax of ''Scared Silly'' he loses his backup hunters and his gun but he opts to just fight Boog with his bare hands.
%%* DirtyCoward
* EgomaniacHunter: Extremely prideful about his hunting abilities, his ego is so big that he takes glee in hunting down Boog once he's no longer Beth's pet and thus legally protected from harm. He also sees himself as humanity's savior against an animal uprising, an idea entirely in his head.
* EvilIsBigger: Shaw is absolutely massive. He towers over every other human character in the first film.
* EvilPoacher: The BigBad of the first film and hunts a lot, even off season.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Is this towards others, ruthless with animals when nobody but hunters are around.
* HumiliationConga: Has this in the first film when defeated by Boog and his newfound friends. He’s hogtied with his own gun, the animals of the forest get their revenge by inflicting a TarAndFeathers punishment along with other injuries, and finally gets hit by the idiot trailer couple's vehicle and, due to being mistaken for an ''Homo sasquatchus'; is tied to it and taken along for the ride to his horror.
* ICallHerVera: He named [[CompanionCube his hunting rifle]] Lorraine.
* {{Jerkass}}: Cruel, sociopathic, and selfish even to the people he supposedly seeks to protect.
* LargeHam: Courtesy of Gary Sinise in the first film and Trevor Devall in the fourth film.
* LaserGuidedKarma: His final fate in the first film has him mistaken for Bigfoot by Bob and Bobbie, who after accidentally hitting him with their vehicle, just as he did on purpose to Elliott, strap him to it as a trophy-of-sorts not unlike how he did it to Elliott as well as the way he hanged all the animals he killed for his amusement.
* LaughablyEvil: He might be dead-serious on his whole poaching career and killed several animals before the films, but his expressively evil personality in the first film, by his varied, humorous dialog/[[DeadpanSnarker sass]] and his sense of humor is [[PluckyComicRelief very comical]]; it can be considered funnier than [[NiceGirl Beth]]'s [[NoSenseOfHumor sense of humor]].
* OhCrap: During the climax of the first movie, he’s cowering in fear when Boog finally fights back and has him pinned to the ground.
* PsychopathicManchild: Shaw is an adult with a very childish view of the world, especially animals, and with his instability and violence the psychotic part is very pronounced.
* SmugSnake: He acts this way when Beth confronts him about hunting a deer off season and when he thinks he has Boog dead-for-rights, while done humorously.
* TarAndFeathers: The animals inflict this fate upon him at the end of the first film.
* TookALevelInBadass: In the first film he went down quickly once Boog got pissed off when he seemingly shot Elliot dead and was intimidated into surrendering after Boog roared in his face, in ''Scared Silly'' even losing his backup hunters and his gun isn't enough to get him to quit and he fights Boog "mano-a-bearo", putting up quite the fight against his much bigger and stronger foe with Boog having to put much more effort into defeating him this time around.
* VillainousValour: The guy's willing to fight a ''bear'' one-on-one. In ''Scared Silly'' even when he loses his gun, he simply attacks Boog with his bare hands and refuses to retreat.
* WindmillCrusader: Shaw thinks the animals in the forest are scheming to rise up against humanity. While he does end up being partly right when they mount an organized resistance against the hunters, it was only done in self-defense.
* WouldHurtAChild: Drives recklessly through town and nearly runs over a mother and son who were already crossing the road and later when trying to run over Elliot, he drives up onto the pavement itself and would have flattened another boy had his mother not pulled him out of the way.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sheriff Gordy]]
!!Sheriff Gordy
->Voiced by:\\
Gordon Tootoosis (1st film), Creator/LorneCardinal (''Scared Silly'')
The sheriff of the town of Timberline.
----
* TheBusCameBack: Like Shaw he was absent for the 2nd and 3rd films before returning for ''Scared Silly''.
* DullSurprise: Is pretty relaxed even in the face of shenanigans; when he sees Shaw crazily driving after Elliot in his truck, he just sighs and mutters "Not again". The one thing that does get a rise out of him is Shaw threatening to use his gun within town limits, which is understandable.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: He's just trying to keep his town safe and while he urges Beth to relocate Boog, it's clear that he knows it's in the best interest of everyone and even tells her to move him to the heights of the waterfall, where he'll be safe from hunters even in the Open Season. He also acts reasonable even around Shaw, trying to keep him in line despite his clear instability and eventually seeking to arrest him for his disruptive violent behavior.

Creator/LeeTockar (''Scared Silly'')
The leader of a large organization of squirrels, who have claimed every tree in the forest as their own.
----
* AccentAdaptation: In the Latin American Dub he's not only renamed Guido but is given an italian accent and ocasionally spouts italian phrases.
%%* TheBigGuy: Or at least he thinks he is. - This trope is zero-context - don't uncomment until you've described how he is a big guy (or thinks he's a big guy) -
* DubNameChange: Renamed "Guido" in the Latin American Dub.
%%* {{Jerkass}}: Mostly toward Elliot. - This trope is zero-context - don't uncomment until you've described how he is a jerkass -
* PintSizedPowerhouse: He's small, but strong enough with his troop to drive off big animals like Boog.
* ViolentGlaswegian: Has both the faux-Scottish name and the temperament to qualify.
* WhatTheHellIsThatAccent: It's presumably ''meant'' to be Scottish, on account of it being Billy Connolly as the original VA, but then it sounds like it's taken a drunken tour of India. In the Latin American Dub it's a slightly downplayed Italian accent instead.

[[folder:Bob & Bobbie]]
!!Bob & Bobbie
->Bobbie voiced by:\\
Creator/GeorgiaEngel (first three films)\\
Creator/KathleenBarr (''Scared Silly'')
Mr. Weenie's owners who are attempting to track down Bigfoot.
----
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: They are quite the odd-thinking couple, such as their search for Bigfoot in the first place.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Inverted. Bob is skinny and Bobbie is fat.
* RunningGag: Whenever Bob tries to speak, Bobbie cuts him off.
* TheVoiceless: Bob has never spoken a word in the films. This is mostly due to his wife cutting him off. The only time Bob ever makes a sound is at the end of the second film during the SuddenMusicalEnding.

[[quoteright:300:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/open_season_2_mr_weenie.jpg]]
->Voiced by:\\
Cody Cameron (first three films)\\
Will Townsend (''Scared Silly'')
A wiener dog originally belonging to Bob & Bobbie, though he hates that life and ends up siding with the forest animals.
----
* ApatheticPet: Initially wants to get away from his owners, and when he meets the forest critters, he rips off his clothes and admits he's been living a lie all this time. When one of his owners, Bobbie, finds him in the second movie, he's not very happy about going with her. He [[CharacterDevelopment overcomes this]] when he realizes how much she loves him and that he loves her, too.
* AscendedExtra: Was a minor character in the first Open Season movie, but has a much larger role in the sequels, especially in the second film where he's the semi-main character.
* BilingualBonus: Sprinkles his sentences with German here and there.
* CharacterDevelopment: Starts off as an apathetic pet who rejects his owners' care for him for the sake of a "free" life. Then after spending time again with them in the second movie and seeing how much Bob and Bobbie care for him, Weenie opts to go back to their side and remains with them for the following films.
* FunnyForeigner: Has a German accent and a humorous nature.
%%* GratuitousGerman: See BilingualBonus.
* APetIntoTheWild: He runs off to live in the wild. Subverted by the second movie.
%%* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: To an extent.

->Voiced by:
->Matthew W. Taylor (first three films)
->Creator/LeeTockar (''Scared Silly'')
A small porcupine that thinks Elliot is his buddy after the deer helps remove him from Boog's posterior (after the bear accidentally fell on him).
----
* AmazingTechnicolorWildlife: He's a blue porcupine. Made extra jarring by the fact that every other animal is colored realistically.
* BadassAdorable: An RidiculouslyCuteCritter who can easily harm anybody with his quills and is more than willing to give bad guys such as Shaw a good stinging.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: With [[TheDitz Elliot]] finding him annoying and other animals avoiding him due to his quills.
* HairColorDissonance: Supposing his blue coloration is a stand-in for grey or black.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Adorable in every way with his design and desire for friendship.
* PokemonSpeak: Guess the one word he likes to say. Subverted as he can say other stuff too and not just [[VerbalTic "Buddy"]].
* SidekickCreatureNuisance: How Elliot sees him afterwards, [[JustifiedTrope mainly due to him being dangerously spiky]].
* VerbalTic: Most of the time, he calls everyone buddy in spite of that being his name.

!!Giselle
[[quoteright:251:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/giselle_open_season.png]]
->Voiced by:\\
Creator/JaneKrakowski (first two films)\\
Melissa Sturm (third film and ''Scared Silly'')
Elliot's love interest and later wife who also becomes the mother of his children.
----
* BabiesEverAfter: Has triplets with Elliot.
* BlamingTheTools: In ''2'', when Giselle's stick she was using to roast marshmallows breaks, she complains, "Even my roasting stick is weak and pathetic!".
* ClingyJealousGirl: Of a sort, as she was more worried that Elliot wasn't interested in her as a mate after courting for a period, when in reality he feared the commitment and was worried he'd screw up the relationship.
* HartmanHips: Giselle has a noticeably large butt.
* MaleGaze: Her literally heart-shaped butt is often shown throughout the film.
* NiceGirl: She's kind, generous, thoughtful, and level-headed.
* OnlySaneWoman: Whenever Boog, Elliot, and Giselle form a trio, she is easily the least crazy one of the three and the one who has to keep the guys in check.
* ParentingTheHusband: In the third film, when she leaves to visit her mother, she tells ''the kids'' to watch over their father. Given how much of a clumsy klutz Elliot is and how many bad situations he gets himself into, it's pretty justified.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Is the only member of Elliot's former herd who doesn't mock him or rub in the fact that he was kicked out.
%%* UglyGuyHotWife: The latter obviously. - This trope is zero-context - don't uncomment until you've described how she is hot compared to her husband -

->Voiced by:\\

Matthew W. Taylor (second and third films)\\
Creator/BrianDrummond (''Scared Silly'')
The leader of the deer herd that Elliot's from. Originally banished Elliot, but they eventually have to work together to stop the Open Season, becoming friends afterwards.
----
* AintTooProudToBeg: He certainly learns this about himself when Shaw and his buddies are coming to kill every animal in the forest, and Boog and Elliot are the only ones who can help them. Despite putting up a bravado, he damn near turns to tears when he goes to ask for help.
* TheBigGuy: A gleaming example of a trophy stag... both in the eyes of his fellow deer and hunters looking for an impressive prize.
* TheBully: His whole attitude towards Elliot in the first film, verbally and physically abusing him for his amusement over Elliot's perceived weakness.
* TheDitz: Macho and tough as he may be, he's also goofy and spacey.
* DumbMuscle: Strong, proud, and not too bright.
* HeelFaceTurn: He's a minor antagonist in the first film with a history of bullying Elliot (for being weak in his eyes, and because they both like Giselle) and antagonizes Boog as well when the latter defends Elliott from him, making fun of him for his softer side. Eventually, he's forced to beg Boog and Elliot for help to save his life and his herd's lives from being hunted, when the animals all team up to confront the hunting party and then Shaw during the climax. Afterwards, he's shown to be on better terms with Boog, Elliot and Giselle and remains a full-blown ally and friend in the sequels.
* InsufferableImbecile: He is a JerkJock who picks on Elliot and can also be rather ditzy and airheaded (albeit not quite to Elliot's degree). He eventually makes a HeelFaceTurn, though.
* {{Jerkass}}: As leader of his herd, he's frequently singled out Elliot for mockery and public humiliation, kicked him around, and finally kicked him out of the herd to fend for himself. He gets better after his HeelFaceTurn.
* JerkJock: He picks on Elliot, and tries to hit on Giselle. At least until he has a change of heart.
* MooseAreIdiots: He's a deer, but still an idiot. Still comes across as smarter than the other male deer shown (especially Elliot).
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: To be fair, his hysterical screaming is a very justified reaction to an incoming flood or spotting a group of hunters.
* ReformedBully: Ian is thoroughly humbled after he's forced to beg Boog and Elliot for help saving his life from Shaw, and he begrudgingly renounces his bullying ways for good after the end of the first film.
* SmugSnake: He's a very cocky stag with a healthy opinion of how strong and tough he is. He loses the ruder aspects of this after some humbling.
* TookALevelInKindness: A downplayed example. Ian goes from being a violent, aggressive bully to a rude but otherwise harmless stag later in the series who becomes friends with the two protagonists.

* TookALevelInBadass: They may be harmless and curious creatures that are used as objects, projectiles for games or used for wiping one's face/etc, but they will fight back against hunters, as is shown in ''Open Season 1''.
* ButtMonkey: Thrown around everywhere and suffer a lot of AmusingInjuries.
* TheChewToy: Their bad luck is often played up for laughs.
* LivingDoorstop: They're literally used as cannon fodder.

[[caption-width-right:341: "I hate cats."]]
->Voiced by: Creator/CrispinGlover
A villainous, grumpy, pampered, and demented toy poodle who has a hatred of wild animals.
----
* TheAtoner: In the third film, he seems to have given up his old ways that may or may not have driven him insane in the second film. This is apparently because he was fixed.
* AxCrazy: His personality in the second film is vicious, murderous and hateful of all wild animals. The third film has him drop this implicitly due to being fixed by his owners.
* BigBad: Of the second film as he leads his fellow pets to kill all wild animals, starting with Elliott, Giselle and [=McSqueezy=] when they try and "rescue" Mr. Weiner from the pets.
%%* ButtMonkey: Although it is often [[LaserGuidedKarma karmic]].
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: Fifi and Shaw both loathe wild animals but that's where the similarities end:
** Shaw is a human armed with a gun who can more than pose a threat with just that or even pure brawn. Fifi is a small poodle who needs minions and tools to pose a threat.
** Shaw hates animals on the basis of being a crazed hunter and believing they are planning an uprising against mankind, Fifi hates wild animals due to being accidentally burned because he got scared by one in the past.
** Shaw had no backup of any kind in his first appearance, only getting two CoDragons in ''Scared Silly'', Fifi starts out with a whole group of pets that follow his commands, as he himself poses not much threat.
** Finally, Fifi eventually was redeemed after his defeat, Shaw remains evil through the film series.
* GenderBlenderName: His name would make you think he is a girl.
* HairTriggerTemper: It doesn't take a lot to anger him. However, this does not pop up as often in the third film as in the first two.
* HeelFaceBrainwashing: Apparently becomes nicer only because he gets neutered.
%%* HeelFaceTurn: After being neutered in the third film.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: Still a good friend to Weenie despite his anger issues.
* IcyBlueEyes: Until his HeelFaceTurn is shown.
* InnocentBlueEyes: After he is reformed.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: He holds a deep prejudice towards wild animals in the second film, until he gets fixed in the third film.
* SanitySlippage: Where he slowly begins to lose his fur and his eyes begin to get increasingly twitchy.

[[folder:Roberto]]
!!Roberto
[[quoteright:337:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roberto_from_open_season.jpg]]
->Voiced by: Creator/SteveSchirripa
A [[SleepyHead sleepy]] and somewhat sarcastic Basset Hound who is a (former) secondary antagonist of ''Open Season 2'' and one of the supporting protagonists of the franchise. He is one of Fifi's former henchmen and is still friends with him.
----
%%* BrutalHonesty: Has this sometimes, mainly dialog-wise.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: As Fifi goes through his SanitySlippage.
* DeadpanSnarker: Can be prone to have some witticisms or a wry look and reaction, especially towards [[CloudCuckooLander Roger]].
* EarlyBirdCameo: He is mentioned in the first film.
* PunchClockVillain: Other than helping Fifi due to being his friends and hearing his stories of wild animals, he's got not a single malicious bone in his body and quickly turns good in the end, even remarking Fifi had his humiliating fate coming to him.
* SleepyHead: Due to being a Basset Hound, Roberto's eyelids [[DrearyHalfLiddedEyes seem to lower down a lot]] (whether he's [[DeadpanSnarker being sarcastic]] or not), he does show how he can pay attention to what Fifi is telling him in some instances. But Roberto can be pretty sleepy or at times drowsy.
* SilentSnarker: He can talk, but doesn't snark that much and shows this through body movement instead.
* ToiletHumor: He's pretty... open about his bathroom habits.
%%* TheDragon: He serves as this to Fifi in the second film.

[[folder:Roger]]
!!Roger
[[quoteright:266:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/roger_the_dumb_cat_from_open_season_1_7.jpg]]
[[caption-width-right:266: Its been ''ages!'']]
->Voiced by: Sean Mullin
An [[TheDitz intellectually disabled]] and [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} outlandish]] Turkish Van cat [[ObliviousToHatred who often annoys his best friend Stanley]] with his goofy demeanor. While being involved and friends with [[BigBad the antagonists of the story]], [[MinionWithAnFInEvil Roger doesn't really pose a threat at all and is friendly towards everybody]], and at the end of the story, however, he is still reformed and becomes friends with the main characters.
----
* BuffoonishTomcat: He is easily the only simpleminded cat throughout the franchise with him being occasionally prone to slapstick situations and moments that are PlayedForLaughs; or him being an occasional ExtremeDoormat SycophanticServant in ''Open Season 2'' when he is always [[UndyingLoyalty loyal]] to Stanley and his group such as in the scene where Fifi and his gang encounter Boog's friends at the water park, or having his oddball moments, Roger's still [[TheDitz very goofy]], [[CloudCuckoolander spacey]] and [[DumbIsGood genial]] all things considered.
* CaptainOblivious: Roger hardly pays any attention to his surroundings. For example, in ''Open Season 2,'' he is first seen resting in the middle of the road for no reason while Fifi's owner calls him a dumb cat and tells him to get out of the road. Afterward, Roger listens to Fifi's tale with the other pets, and he [[ComicallyMissingThePoint randomly says he wants a girlfriend]].
* CatchPhrase: ''"Its been ''ages!''",'' ''"Really?"''
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: His oddball remarks, random thoughts, occasional spacing out, being [[CaptainOblivious oblivious towards his surroundings]], and his moments of [[ChaoticStupid randomness along with his playfully crack-brained behavior]] while a massive goofball from ''Open Season 2 to 3''.
* CrazyEnoughToWork: When he wants to be cooperative in ''Open Season 3'', he exhibits his oddball and weird behavior to [[DumbIsGood help his friends out]] and succeeds at doing just that.
* TheDitz: Possibly the dumbest character in the franchise.
* KindheartedSimpleton: Since ''Open Season 2'', he has shown to have no mean, malicious bone towards anyone and is usually shown to be affable, caring & cheerful if a childlike, ditzy & simple-minded feline. This is shown by how friendly he is towards others and in ''Open Season 3'', he basically begs his friends to help out another character. He may have absurd or [[PluckyComicRelief buffoonish]] ways of supporting his friends, but at heart he's still a quirky, pleasant, and well-meaning simpleton.
* FatAndSkinny: The Skinny to Stanley's fat.
* FunPersonified: This is best shown in ''Open Season 3,'' where Roger, in his own ways, likes having fun while being TheDitz, even when goofing around or being a massive CloudCuckoolander.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: How most of the characters (except for some) see Roger in spite of him being a pleasant and likable character. For example:
-->'''Roger:''' Weenie, it's been ''ages!''
-->'''Stanley:''' Oh, here's my chance.
-->'''Mr. Weenie:''' Roger! Hey, let's go find your buddy, Stanley.
-->'''Stanley:''' No no no no, he's ''your'' friend now!
* PerpetualSmiler: He's usually seen as a happy-go-lucky, unsuspecting, and cheerful cat who's always in a blissfully goofy state of mind and is usually [[ManiacTongue sticking his tongue out]] whether feeling joyous or not.
* ManiacTongue: Somewhat Straight, [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] and [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]], while Roger is ''not'' evil, sadistic or psycho in the slightest. However, Roger always presents or talks with his tongue sticking out to indicate how blissfully crack-brained, derpy and not-all-that-bright he is.
* MinionWithAnFInEvil: ''In Open Season 3'', Roger being the friendly goofball that he is, he's always unaware of what's going on with the temporarily villainous group he's in, which allows him to do whatever playful, oddball idea comes up in his head in a goofy manner that shows how he would [[CrazyEnoughToWork actually help his friends]] by clowning around and letting Boog's group & side of the story continue on their plot to then [[ChaoticStupid unwittingly thwart Fifi's brief mistake when joining the circus]].
* ObliviousToHatred: Since Roger has no mean bone towards anybody, he is approachable and likes being around Stanley and [[HorribleJudgeOfCharacter thinks that he's a friendly cat to be around]], so [[OnlySaneMan Stanley]] would try to stay away from him as much as possible, this is also given due to how most of every character sees him as [[TheFriendNobodyLikes a weirdo]].
* PluckyComicRelief: Due to his CloudCuckoolander tendencies and moments of being {{slapstick}}-prone, he lives this and is very enjoyable & hilarious whenever his goofy sense of humor or presence occurs.
* SillyWalk: Has this while seeming to walk like a regular cat, but this was done funnily and pretty smoothly.
* SimpletonVoice: He has one of the most hilariously stupid voices in all of WesternAnimation, and it fits [[BuffoonishTomcat his character]] perfectly.

->Voiced by: Fred Stoller
A snarky and serious-minded fat American Curl cat who is often annoyed by his best friend [[TheDitz Roger]] because of [[BuffoonishTomCat his buffoonish demeanor]]. While he was one of Fifi's henchmen, he is reformed in the end and becomes friends with the main characters.
----
* ButtMonkey: Occasionally, sometimes while Roger's still spacing out.
* CatsAreSnarkers: Many moments of this when played with or when around [[BuffoonishTomcat Roger]].
* CategoryTraitor: Played with, when it comes to [[TheDitz Roger]].
-->'''Fifi:''' ''(seeing Roger throws up a poster he ate)'' I hate cats.\\
'''Stanley:''' ''(sighs)'' So do I.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: Was this to Roger in ''Open Season 2'', in their first appearance, this was averted in their second appearance in ''Open Season 3''.
* FatAndSkinny: The Fat to Roger's Skinny.
* JerkassToOne: Due to his CloudcuckoolandersMinder demeanor, he is this when around [[KindheartedSimpleton Roger]] whether when Stanley needed to pause Roger's oddball nature for another reason or not.

!!Douglas
A runaway circus bear who switches places with Boog so he can rule the forest unopposed. He's Alistair's best friend.
----
* AntiVillain: Unlike Shaw or Fifi he has no real plans to harm anyone directly, and his goals are based on a desperate desire to have approval and praise from others.
* IdenticalStranger: Other than his wildly styled hair he's a dead-ringer for Boog, allowing the two to switch places with everyone none the wiser when Douglas styles his fur like Boog's.
* JerkJock: Behaves like this upon switching places with Boog, using his size and strength as a bear to get his way with abusing the other forest animals' services.
