!!Fairies
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/apple-fairies-attack_2967.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/KeeganConnorTracy, Creator/AmyAcker, Creator/CatherineLoughHaggquist, Creator/RoseMcIver, Creator/JordanaLargy, Creator/JaimeMurray, Creator/SaraTomko, Creator/JillianFargey

The basic magical creatures of the Enchanted Forest, the fairies use the fairy dust the dwarves mine to make magic, which doesn't seem to have the same downsides as the dark magic everyone else uses.
----
* ColorfulThemeNaming: "Quite A Common Fairy" reveals that some of the major fairies are named after the dominant color of their dresses besides having more elaborate, unique names. Tinker Bell was referred to as "Green" by the Blue Fairy until she requested otherwise.
* FairySexy: All of them so far have been attractive.
* OneGenderRace: Fairies are apparently all female. In Storybrooke, they are nuns.
* OurFairiesAreDifferent: An attractive OneGenderRace that makes magic thanks to the dwarves' aid.
* PimpedOutDress: Every fairy seen has been wearing a ''very'' elaborate dress.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Fairies can reproduce with humans, as is the case with [[spoiler:Pan and the Black Fairy having Rumple.]] [[spoiler:[[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] with the fact that Fiona wasn't genetically a fairy; she only turned herself into one after Rumple was born.]]

!!Dwarves
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/once-upon-a-time_1_7524.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/LeeArenberg, Creator/GabeKhouth, Creator/FaustinoDiBauda, Creator/DavidPaulGrove, Creator/MikeColeman, Creator/MigMacario, Creator/JeffreyKaiser, Creator/GeoffGustafon, Creator/KenKramer, Creator/RichardCox

A race of male workers and miners who are hatched from eggs.
----
* BornAsAnAdult: They hatch fully grown.
* FantasticCasteSystem: Forced to mine fairy dust, never allowed to leave said mines, and are not allowed to fall in love.
* MarriedToTheJob: Bossy makes it clear that dwarves' one true passion is mining to the point that they often whistle while working. When Dreamy attempts to go against dwarven culture and start a new life with Nova, Bossy and the Blue Fairy convince him to leave her for fear it will put both of them on the wrong path.
* {{Meaningful Name}}s: Dwarf names are based on dominant personality traits, which are revealed through magic pickaxes. These names will change if the dominant trait changes.
* OneGenderRace: Dwarves are one of these—all male, they hatch from eggs fully formed. With clothing.
* OurDwarvesAreAllTheSame: Played straight or even exaggerated, since dwarves are born fully grown and conscious after hatching from eggs and are single-mindedly devoted to mining.

!!Trolls
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/TrollGroup2_3987.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/MarkGibbon, Creator/JohnRhysDavies (voice only)

So far, two types of trolls have been seen. The Bridge Trolls in the Enchanted Forest are an angry race of monsters who have issues with human nobles, and who are also intelligent enough to make deals. Meanwhile, the Rock Trolls of Arendelle appear more benign, and try their best to help humans who seek them out.
----
* AllTrollsAreDifferent: They guard bridges and hate nobles. Also an In-Universe example: the trolls of the Enchanted Forest are visibly more humanoid than the trolls of Arendelle.
* HiddenInPlainSight: Arendelle's trolls can disguise themselves as rocks.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Rock trolls specialize in this; however, they can also reverse the amnesia.

!!Werewolves
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seriable-obs-781144-600x350_2346.jpg]]

The "Big Bad Wolf," werewolves are infectious, only vulnerable to silver and immediately fatal wounds, and transform on the three days of the full moon. They also pass their condition along their bloodline.
----
* TheBigBadWolf: Big and bad as they get.
* TheDreaded: People know how dangerous they are.
* MagicPants: Lycanthropy doesn't damage clothing.
* TheNoseKnows: Werewolves have this even in human form.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: In this universe, lycanthropy is a hereditary condition as well as a viral one, and its effects fade with age. Werewolves also have enhanced strength, speed, and senses even in their human forms.
* SuperSpeed: Another ability they have in both human and wolf form.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Supernatural creatures with golden eyes.

!!Genies
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Magiclamp_inside_1141.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/GiancarloEsposito, Creator/PeterGadiot, Creator/RazaJaffrey, Creator/DejanLoyola, Creator/MichaelSocha, Creator/DenizAkdeniz

Spirits forced to live in bottles and act as stewards of wishes.
----
* BenevolentGenie: Generally, most of the Genies themselves have been fairly kind and even heroic. They even actively warn people not to use their magic for fear the magic will end up screwing over whoever uses it.
* GenieInABottle: They are forced to live there.
* JackassGenie: Averted in that it's the magic, not the genie, as the ArcWords are "Magic comes at a price". The genie is even perfectly willing to warn against it.
* OurGeniesAreDifferent: As established by ''Series/OnceUponATimeInWonderland'', genies are not a normal magical race. [[spoiler:Genies are people who attempted to steal the water of the mythical Well of Wonders. As punishment, the Well's guardian, Nyx, enslaves them to magical lamps, where they must remain unless someone releases them.]]

!!Ogres
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Image23_2894.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/CErnstHarth

Blind, aggressive monsters that have warred with humans before.
----
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: The Ogres may be civil enough to organize actual armies, but their immediate instinct is always to kill.
* TheBrute: Ogres are a race of dangerous brutes.
* TheDreaded: Snow balks when she hears that the ogres have returned.
* EvilCripple: Every single ogre is half-blind, but that doesn't stop them waging war on starving villages and attempting to kill Henry.

!!Sirens
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/-once-upon-a-time--e_811_1967.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/AriaPullman

A powerful and dangerous water creature who is sought out for the healing properties of her lake. Once she dies, the lake dries up.
----
* SadlyMythtaken: The sirens of Greek myth were half-bird.
* TheVamp: They seduce their soon-to-be victims.
* VoluntaryTransformation: One transforms into Snow to tempt Prince Charming.

!!Giants
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/60141827_6518.jpg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/JorgeGarcia, Creator/AbrahamBenrubi, Creator/CErnstHarth, Creator/AndreTricoteux

A nearly extinct race who consider it their purpose to do nothing but grow magic beans.
----
* AlliterativeFamily: All the giants in Anton's family had names starting with A.
* HumansAreTheRealMonsters: Hold this opinion, as humans previously used the magic beans for domination and conquest. When Anton accidentally spills that the beans still exist, the remaining giants are all but wiped out by King George's army.
* OurGiantsAreBigger: Although LastOfHisKind Anton ends up human-sized, these giants are massive by default, around the size of Storybrooke's clocktower.
* RacialRemnant: Arlo heavily implies this is the reason why they live in seclusion from humans.
* ThemeNaming: Names starting with "A", although this might just be Anton's [[FamilyThemeNaming family]].

!!Gorgon
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1fe93bda_3b30_4e93_b730_0effe180de7e.jpeg]]
A hideous monster named Medusa whose gaze transforms her victims into stone.
----
* NoOntologicalInertia: After Medusa's death, everyone that she turned to stone is restored, no worse for the wear.
* SnakePeople: Upper body is humanoid, lower body is a giant snake. Also has snakes for hair.
* TakenForGranite: Medusa's gaze alone can turn anyone to stone. [[spoiler:[[HoistByHisOwnPetard Including herself]].]]

!!Mermaids
->'''Played by:''' Creator/NatashaWilson, Creator/JoAnnaGarciaSwisher, Creator/TiffanyBoone
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cc685986_6461_4903_9fb0_f61ec57c4b5f.jpeg]]
Aquatic inhabitants of Neverland and Fairytale Land.
----
* TheDreaded: Mermaids exist in Neverland and are greatly feared by Hook and his crew, seeing that they regularly capsize incoming ships.
* TheGhost: Mentioned several times in the first two seasons but don't appear until the third.
* InterdimensionalTravelDevice: The mermaids themselves, since they have the power to travel between universes at will.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: They can turn their legs into fins for one day a year, and as mentioned above, they can even cross the barriers between dimensions.

!!Wraiths
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/201Wraith4_2682.PNG]]

Extremely dangerous spirits that hunt down anyone bearing their mark and steal their soul.
----
* BlackCloak: Wraiths' decaying bodies are covered by an overly large dark cloak.
* {{Expy}}: Their design and the way they suck people's souls are almost identical to [[Franchise/HarryPotter Dementors]].
* TheFaceless: Their faces are shadowed from the view of the characters and the audience, hinting at their dark nature.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Mr. Gold likens an encounter with a wraith to this.
* {{Flight}}: Are capable of flight, making them more daunting.
* InTheHood: See TheFaceless.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: The only thing visible beneath the Wraith's dark cloaks are a pair of large, red eyes.
* YourSoulIsMine: They don't actually kill people. They just remove their souls. The consumed souls go to a netherworld that they can be rescued from, as Mulan and Princess Aurora managed for Prince Phillip offscreen.

!!Deities
->'''Played by:''' Creator/ErnieHudson, Creator/GregGermann, Creator/DavidHoflin, Creator/YvetteNicoleBrown

Various deities are worshipped in the Enchanted Forest, especially those from Myth/ClassicalMythology.
----
* CompleteImmortality: Deities are immune to all types of magic other than their own(Zeus stopped Hades' heart and Hades was able to kill Kronos before he claimed the Olmypian Crystal) and their hearts cannot be crushed by any means. There is only one other known way to kill a deity: the Olympian Crystal.
* GodGuise: Regina pretends to be Ursula to fool Ariel. When the real Ursula finds out, she's not happy.
* KryptoniteFactor: The deities may be immortal, but something that doesn't ''kill'' can harm them. That's where the Olympian Crystal comes in, which can kill deities. It seems their own magic can also harm and kill them as Hades killed Kronos without the Olympian Crystal.
** Turns out the crystal doesn't destroy souls, it just disintegrates beings and sends their souls somewhere else.
* LegendFadesToMyth: Prince Eric's people hold an annual ball to honor the sea goddess Ursula. However, they believe that her deeds are merely stories.
* LordOfTheOcean: Ursula and Poseidon.
* OhMyGods: An expression often heard word-for-word from Enchanted Forest residents.
* PhysicalGod: They are invulnerable to any magic bar their own or the Olympian Crystal.
* RealityWarper: Their powers transcend nearly all the known Laws of Magic (this makes sense given they created the Holy Grail which is said to be the source of all magic in the mortal realm). This allows them to do things that are impossible for non-deity magic users like ripping out the Heart of someone born of True Love or resurrection of the dead without any price. It appears the only things they cannot do with their own magic is time travel(Hades wanted to use Zelena's Time Travel Spell for that) or making someone fall in love with another person(which no magic can do as love has to be given willingly by its very nature).

!!Cerberus
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ce75daae_d990_4284_aaa7_fd2d5e5e2229.jpeg]]
A gigantic hellhound that guards deceased souls from escaping the prison located in the Underworld.
----
* AdaptationalVillainy: Cerberus is portrayed a cruel monster that actively tortures the dead, whereas he was simply a supernatural watchdog in the myths.
* {{Hellhound}}: Cerberus is one of the few monsters Hades uses the guard the Underworld, but he does it well, and prevents anyone in his custody from moving on.
* HeroKiller: Cerberus is a terrifying monster that guards a prison not by physically restraining his wards, but by making them so scared even hardened pirates like Hook will refuse to escape. The trope also applies literally, as Cerberus was responsible for the death of the demigod Hercules.
* MultipleHeadCase: Hercules failed to kill it because for each head it went after, two more would attack him. The heroes are only able to beat Cerberus in the Underworld once Hercules, Snow White and Megara go for one head each simultaneously.
* WardensAreEvil: ExaggeratedTrope; the warden of Hades' prison is not only evil, but a mindless monster literally hellbent on ripping any prisoner to shreds that dares move out of their cell.

!!Flying Monkeys
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/f81da8b2_c3c8_41ac_8e8a_b35fc6f9b528.jpeg]]
The Flying Monkeys of the Wicked Witch.
-----
* ForcedTransformation: All of them were once people, before the Wicked Witch or another monkey changed them. Walsh, Little John, Philip, Aurora, and a few of the dwarves are included in their numbers at one point or another.
* ManiacMonkeys: The Flying Monkeys are vicious, feral animals with the strength of four men that can fly through glass without breaking stride.
* {{Mook}}: They serve as Zelena's mongrels for Season 3b. They don't do much heavy-lifting in her schemes, but their numbers help keep the people of Storybrooke trapped and occupy the heroes just before the final steps of the Witch's plans.
* ViralTransformation: Flying Monkeys are initially created via a spell, but once that first Monkey is created they can bite anyone they meet and turn them into another Flying Monkey. This is what keeps the population of Storybrooke trapped in Season 3, since anyone who leaves is bitten by a Monkey.
* WasOnceAMan: Including Walsh, the former Wizard of Oz and Emma's one time fiance as well as Little John, Prince Phillip, Princess Aurora, Sleepy/Walter, Bashful, and Dopey.

!!Tree Nymphs
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1573ebfc_f0a2_4988_bb7c_5e0d5d68e376.jpeg]]
->'''Played by:''' Creator/EmmaBooth, Creator/GabrielleMiller, Creator/KyraLeroux, Creator/RoseReynolds[[note]]Portrays a half-tree nymph[[/note]]

An extinct species, with Flora holding the mantle of "mother" of the tree nymphs.
----
* AmbiguousSituation: It is unknown whether or not there are any male tree nymphs.
* FantasticRacism: A victim of this, as [[TheSociopath Isla]] murdered them for being different.
* HalfHumanHybrid: [[spoiler:Alice/Tilly]] is a half-tree nymph. Even when she lost her Guardianship, she was still able to use magic, as seen when she conjured Maui's fish hook.
* LastOfHisKind: Gothel/Eloise.
* NiceGuy: It seems that, prior to Gothel's FaceHeelTurn, all tree nymphs were nice creatures.

!!Krakens
[[quoteright:350:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/584791a4_babf_4c86_bac0_2ce33467c838.jpeg]]
Squid-like, vicious sea monsters.
----
* AttackOfTheMonsterAppendage: Although more than its tentacles can be seen, the kraken is rarely, if not, never, shown entirely in most shots. Additionally, the way it reveals itself to Jasmine and Aladdin is by one tentacle ominously coming out of the water.
* CombatTentacles: Attempts to strangle Hook with one of its tentacles.
* GiantSquid: Krakens appear as a much more monstrous, mutant version of the giant squid, which briefly appears in "Nasty Habits" in Neverland, where it more closely resembles the actual animal.
* KrakenAndLeviathan: Despite the kraken usually appearing as enormous in fiction, here it is closer in size to an actual giant squid, which probably grow larger than currently known anyway.
* SeaMonster: Found in bodies of water in the Enchanted Forest, not just the sea, as shown in "A Wondrous Place". The kraken that attacks Hook in "Dark Waters" is presumably also from the Enchanted Forest.
* TentacledTerror: Are extremely aggressive, as they do absolutely nothing but try and eat humans during their screen time.
----
