''Fanfic/MyLittlePonyChronicles'' characters:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder: My Little Ponies]]

!!Firefly
* TheAce: Among the ponies, she is without a doubt this, so very, very much.
* ActionGirl: Even more so than in the original. Here, she doesn't ''just'' kick dragons. She kicks soldiers!
%%* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: She has her moments.%%Like?
%%* BadassAdorable
* CharacterDevelopment: Goes from being a full on LeeroyJenkins to putting more thought into her actions as the story goes along. It starts with MyGodWhatHaveIDone.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* DeadpanSnarker: Usually too youthfully exuberant to be this, but she does have her moments.
* TheDitz: Sometimes, but then she [[LetsGetDangerous gets dangerous]].
%%* FunPersonified
* HeroicWillpower: At several points, [[spoiler:but the most prominent example is after she's been knocked out of the sky by Tirac and suffered several maor injuries in a crash landing. She ''still'' picks herself up off the ground to try to stop him.]]
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Medley.
* HypercompetentSidekick: To Megan. More obvious here than in her original appearance, since without the obstacle of studio executives stopping it from happening, readers of ''Chronicles'' actually get to see her handle herself in a full-on fight.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: She does this when Megan [[spoiler:adamantly refuses to help stop Catrina and her minions from kidnapping ponies, due to her status as a ShellShockedVeteran. It doesn't work.]]
%%* InSeriesNickname: She has one for everyone at some point.
%%* TheLancer: To Megan.
* LeeroyJenkins: Dragons are coming? Change! Humans are attacking some innocents! '''CHARGE!'''
%%* MadeOfIron: ''Oh, '''yes'''''.
* MustMakeAmends: See MyGodWhatHaveIDone below. She feels so bad for getting Megan, a child, involved in her troubles that she spends the rest of the story protecting and supporting her at every turn and at every possible cost.
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: She experiences this when it settles in just how young Megan is, and that she's involved in the quest to stop Tirac ''because'' of her involvement in setting up the meeting with Lord Bernard.
* RedOniBlueOni: It'd almost be futile to even bother listing someone she isn't the ''Red'' to.
%%* TemptingFate: Her original line, "danger is my life!", carries over into this fanfic.%%So how is it tempting fate?
%%* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tomboy to Medley's Girly Girl.%%How?
* UndyingLoyalty: Seems to have picked this up to an ever greater degree since her canon appearance.

!!Twilight
%%* BashBrothers: With Gusty. ''With magic.''
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Most than a few of the villans learn this the hard way, and ended up bouncing off of whatever obstacle is in the way of their airborne descend.
* CombatMedic: Along with Christopher.
* CloserToEarth: She's is definitely this amongst the ponies.
* CoolBigSis: Currently this to Spike the Dragon.
* {{Expy}}: This incarnation of the original Twilight is a blend of the Twilight from ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyTVSpecials Rescue from Midnight Castle]]'' and the one from ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic''.
* FriendToAllChildren: Thus far, she's raised Ember and Spike, helps Firefly protect Megan, and is seen baby-sitting an entire group of foals at one point.
%%* TheHeart: She's also this.%%How?
* IWarnedYou: To Ember, though she was absent. After she's taken hostage.
* MamaBear: Much like in the original ''Midnight Castle'' special, her love for Ember sends her on TheQuest.
* MindOverMatter: All of the Unicorns are established to have telekenetic abilities in varying degrees. Twilight, however, excels at it.
* ParentalSubstitute: Instead of being Ember's CoolBigSis, like in the original, Twilight is her full-on mother figure.
* PsychicPowers: One of her abilities is that she can sense every living thing in the area and how big they are.
* TeamMom: Plays this with Medley and Bowtie this time.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Of the Unicorns, she is the Girly Girl while Gusty is the Tomboy.
* TookALevelInBadass: Like before, she starts out timid and cautious, and ends up toughening up considerably over the course of the long journey to Midnight Caste.

!!Bowtie
%%* BadassAdorable: Yep.
* BadassNormal: Being an Earth Pony, she only has the legs underneath her to rely on.
%%* BashBrothers: With Applejack.
* BornLucky: She evades Scorpan's dragonriders no fewer times here than in ''Rescue from Midnight Castle''.
%%* CloserToEarth: Not as Twilight's level, but yes.
%%* GirlishPigtails
* GoombaStomp: She is the undisputed master of this here.
* JumpPhysics: Like before, she's the best jumper of the Earth ponies. Sundance gives her a run for her money, but... [[TheKlutz unlike Sunance]], Bowtie can land on her feet.
%%* LightningBruiser: She's the fastest on her feet of the group.%%That's one-third of the trope, yes.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: She's no pushover, but she just isn't on Firefly or Gusty's level of adorable badassery.
* TheQuietOne: she speaks the least of the ponies, but when she does talk, it is always to say something important.
%%* StraightMan: Plays this with Wind Whistler.%%How?
%%* TeamMom: With Twilight and Medley.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly Girl to Applejack's Tomboy...relatively speaking.
%%* YouthfulFreckles

!!Applejack
* AndIMustScream: She was captured by Tirac and transformed into a dragon... [[spoiler:and has been stuck that way ever since, unable to speak]].
* BadassAdorable.
* BadassNormal
%%* BashBrothers: With Bowtie.
%%* BookDumb
%%* CloserToEarth
%%* DeadpanSnarker: ''Yes.''
* {{Expy}}: She's closer to the ''[=FiM=]'' Applejack than to the G1 character. Some readers have commented that they even heard the latter's voice while reading her dialogue.
* ForcedTransformation: As in canon, she's turned into a dragon by Tirac. [[spoiler:She doesn't turn back.]]
%%* HonorBeforeReason
%%* KickChick
* LightningBruiser: She's fast ''and'' powerful, and the strongest of all the ponies.
%%* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Bowtie' Blue.%%How?
%%* TheReliableOne
* PintSizedPowerhouse: She takes on human soldiers hoof against sword.
%%* Power Blonde
%%* StraightMan
%%* StubbornMule
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The Tomboy to Bowtie's Girly Girl.

!!Wind Whistler
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* DependingOnTheWriter: In the toys and British comics she's TheDitz. However, in both the cartoon this is based on and this fanfic, she's TheSmartGuy.
%%* TheSmartGuy
%%* SesquipedalianLoquaciousness
%%* TheSpock
%%* NotSoStoic: The first finale.
%%* TeamMom: Alongside Bowtie and Medley.

!!Gusty
* BlowYouAway: To an even greater extent than in the series, since in the wide world of the web, Gusty is allowed to use her powers to ''lethal'' degrees. Crosses into BlownAcrossTheRoom.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
* DoNotTouchTheFunnelCloud: Some goblins learn this the hard way.
%%* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
%%* MeaningfulName
* MindOverMatter: Being a Unicorn, she can utilize telekinesis.
* PintSizedPowerhouse: A rare trait for a Unicorn, since most of them spend more of their time learning to master their magic than participating in physical abilities.
%%* PluckyGirl
* RedOniBlueOni: Very Red. About on Firefly's level.
%%* TheRival: To Firefly.
%%* {{Shorttank}}
* ShoutOut: The author has taken the fact that she was voiced by [[Creator/NancyCartwright Bart Simpson]] in the original 80s series, and just rolled with it.
* SpectacularSpinning: She sure seems to think so, starting funnel clouds with reckless abandon.
* SwirlingDust: A good sign that you might want to take cover.
* TheWorfEffect: Completely averted. WeirdRaptor makes great use of her ability to control the wind. In WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyAndFriends, Gusty would likely have been the first to go down in most of the situations the ponies find themselves in throughout ''Chronicles''. Not here, though.

!!Medley
* IWarnedYou: Considering it's Firefly she's always dealing with. Duh.
* CowardlyLion: Like before, she's an incessant worrier who gets easily scared and is quick to run. Still loyal and brave in a pinch.
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindows
%%* TheCutie
%%* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Firefly.
%%* NiceGuy
%%* TeamMom: One of three.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly to Firefly's Tomboy.
* WhatTheHellHero: Is the first one to call Gusty on starting a tornado...in the middle of a forest.

!!Ember
%%* ChildrenAreInnocent
%%* CurtainsMatchTheWindow
%%* DamselInDistress: ''Twice'' so far.
* HappilyAdopted: She looks up to Twilight as her own mother.
* HeartWarmingOrphan: Her parents died in a fire.
%%* IJustWantToBeSpecial
%%* TokenMiniMoe
%%* WideEyedIdealist

!!Magic Star
%%* TheAce: Even more so than Firefly!%%How?
* DamselOutOfDistress: She's only caught ''because she allows it'' and then later helps kick all kinds of ass during the finale.
* OnlySaneMan: Alongside a few others, she is the most sensible of the ponies and thus serves as the unofficial leader.
* RaceLift: Originally, she was an earth pony. Here, she's a Unicorn.
* TheSmartGuy: Not quite up to Wind Whistler's level, but she still fits the trope.
* The Stoic: Again, not quite on Wind Whistler's level, but still.
%%* TeamMom: More than anyone else.

!!Shady

!!Sundance

!!Sparkler

!!Moondancer

[[folder: Humans]]
!!Megan
* AdaptationalAngstUpgrade: Megan acts more like one would expect a preteen to under these circumstances.
* AdaptationalBadass: Her toy version just seems to be a cute girl in a dress.
* BadassNormal: Though to much lesser extent than her cartoon counterpart.
* CombatPragmatist: She kind of has to be, given her muggle status when not armed with her Light.
* DeadpanSnarker: Occasionally.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: Like no one else's business! What the original Megan goes through over the course of the entire 80s cartoon is about the same as what happens to Chronicles's Megan in just one story arc!
%%* FarmBoy
* GirlinessUpgrade: Averted. Much like the pilot of the old cartoon, she's very tomboyish.
* TheHero: Whether or not she wants to be.
* KidHero: Laid unusually realistically. Instead of happily going along on the quest and then returning home triumphantly, she's instead subjected to all kinds of horrors that leave the poor girl thoroughly traumatized.
* LightEmUp: She wields a weapon that casts Light Magic.
%%* LionsAndTigersAndHumansOhMy
%%* NaiveEverygirl
%%* PluckyGirl
* RefusalOfTheCall: Megan, in contrast to the original where she JumpedAtTheCall almost immediately. It takes her a lot longer to change her mind and decide to accept the task of killing Tirac. What finally convinces her is listening to a recording of the last king of Umbrae, an ancient civilization, describing the events of The Cataclysm. She realizes that if Tirac isn't stopped, history might repeat itself, and ''that scares her even more than accepting the call''.
* ShellShockedVeteran: By the end of the Book 1, after [[spoiler:she's been traumatized severely by Tirac and watched her lord, Frederick, get murdered right in front of her. She's been on the slow path of decovery ever since.]]
* TagalongKid: Played straight and then subverted. At first, all she did was assist her employer, the noble Frederick. Once it was revealed she could use an AncestralWeapon to fight Tirac, she became the only prayer the quest had.
* TeamMom: Maybe it's just because she's the only one around most of the time who has thumbs...
%%* TokenHuman
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: The tomboy to Mary's {{Moe}} girly girl
%%* TomboyishPonytail

!!Frederick
* AnyoneCanDie: [[spoiler: He dies fighting one-on-one with Tirac.]]
* BadassNormal: Definitely, but a much lesser degree than most of the other [[BadassNormal badass normals]] in the story. While he's able to fend for himself in a fight just fine, he is ''far'' from being a death machine like The Specialists.
* BadassBookworm: He has his nose buried in a book almost as much as [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Twilight Sparkle]] in all his early appearances.
* BigBrotherInstinct: Towards Megan. About the quickest way to get yourself impaled on his sword is to threaten or attack her.
* BigBrotherMentor: Though not related, he ''is'' definitely this to his assistant, Megan.
* CharacterDevelopment: Starts out as a insecure, somewhat nerdy young man of nobility that gets tasked with leading an expedition to protect the ponies of The Center Lands. By the end of the story, he's become a much better tactician, fighter, and leader. He's also much more confident in himself and his inate abilities.
* ChessMaster: Shows a lot of signs of being a budding one.
* DamselInDistress: Not a severe case, but half the time, especially in the first portion of the story, he'd have to get his hide saved by others and eventually ends up being held captive on ''two'' occasions.
* DeadpanSnarker: ''A lot'', but no where near Blake or Mark's equal.
* TheDeterminator: He's younger and inexperienced when it comes to leading troops and in the ways of battle, but dang if he'd won't force his way through by sheer, stubborn resolve.
* ForScience: Has some shades of this. He definitely turns to it a lot to find the answer he seeks. Considering he's the first person not in the know to figure out where Tirac derives his power, it definitely works for him.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Despite knowing that Tirac would probably kill him, he still attacks him head on to distract him long enough for Megan to retreat and counterstrike. Tirac breaks his neck,]]
* HeroicWillpower: The reason she survives constantly being over-powered at every turn.
* JumpedAtTheCall: Frederick deeply loves the people of Dongard and will do ''anything'' to protect them. He even takes on the responsibility of leading the expedition first to fend off attackers at Dream Castle, and later leads the quest to assassinate Tirac.
%%* NiceGuy: Definitely.
%%* NonIdleRich: Yep.
* OriginalCharacter: He was created specifically for ''Chronicles''. He isn't present anywhere in official Hasbro canon.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Constantly. Whether by his old brother, Megan after she receives the Light, or by The Specialists, he ''is'' rarely the toughest guy around.
* TheSmartGuy: One of a trio with Wind Whistler and Magi Christopher.
* TookALevelInBadass: Oh, ''yes.'' As explained, he started off none too tough, but that charged as the quest progressed.

!!Clyde
%%* TheAce
%%* BadassCrew
* BadassNormal: He ''slays dragons'' with a pair of daggers!
* CrazyPrepared: He brings items that can be used against everything they could possibly encounter of their quest.
* CoolOldGuy: His age is never stated, but he has a full grown son and a grandchild on the way.
* DualWielding: He fights with a pair of daggers.
%%* OriginalCharacter
%%* PapaWolf: To everyone in the party.
%%* TeamDad
* TheQuietOne: He speaks seldom, but always had something of value to say.

!!'''Tirac''', Centaur

* ZeroPercentApprovalRating: Made even clearer here that ''no one'' wants Tirac ruling over them.
%%* BadBoss: ''Very'' bad boss.%%How?
%%* BigBad
* CastingAShadow: His Rainbow of Darkness.
* TheConqueror: He has been conquering every land he sets his gaze upon for ''seventy years''.
* CurbStompBattle: Freed from children's TV, Tirac in ''Chronicles'' shows us what is already implied of Tirac's standard operating methods.
%%* DeathGlare: A pretty potent one, too!
* ElementalPowers: His Darkness is an Element in this setting.
* EvilLaugh: Has a pretty good one, actually.
%%* EvilOverlord
%%* EvilSorcerer
%%* EvilSoundsDeep
* FamilyUnfriendlyDeath: No DisneyVillainDeath for this guy. He gets ''burned to ashes by the Rainbow of Light''. He himself [[spoiler:kills one of the heroes by crushing the poor bastard's throat in his hand]].
* FamilyUnfriendlyViolence: During the final battle, he opened up a can of whoopass on the heroes and left them nursing their wounds while he got onto his demon pulled chariot and ascended to bring in TheNightThatNeverEnds. His actions include crushing bones and throats.
* FreudianExcuse: Played straight and subverted in ''Chronicles''.
** Played straight in that it gives more backstory to the circumstances of Tirac and explains his motives. Tirac's people were once one of two ruling powers in Eoland, but then it all came crashing down when they accidentally caused a three day cataclysm that sundered their authority. They tried to reestablished control later, but by then, other nations had risen up and wouldn't hear of it and thus drove them across the Northern sea up to some frozen wastelands where the entire population gradually died off from the harsh conditions. Tirac is TheLastOfHisKind and returned south, having rediscovered the power of his ancesters. Once there, he started waging a ruthless campaign to TakeOverTheWorld. His motives are one-half "collecting his inheritance" (control of all of Eoland), which he was raised to think he was entitled to, and one half RoaringRampageOfRevenge against the other peoples of Eoland for driving his people up north where they died out.
** Subverted in that the story does not treat this sympathetically. Tirac is a bitter, hateful, cruel tyrant that regularly kicks puppies on levels the original probably dreamed of, but wasn't allowed to on TV.
* ForTheEvulz: Partially. It crosses into FreudianExcuse and RoaringRampageOfRevenge.
* GodhoodSeeker: His ultimate goal. Casting TheNightThatNeverEnds would have ensured his eternal and complete dominance over the entire world.
* GoodRepublicEvilEmpire: Subverted. The Empire of Balacroff was very much a ''Good'' aligned place before Tirac took it over and made it New Umbrae.
* KickTheDog: He ''loves'' doing this to Scorpan, but then TheDogBitesBack.
* LargeHam: '''''BEHOLD, THE POWER OF DARKNESS! NOW BEGINS THE NIGHT THAT NEVER ENDS!'''''
%%* LastOfHisKind
* NearVillainVictory: He comes within an inch of covering all the land in TheNightThatNeverEnds.
* TheNightThatNeverEnds: The troper namer. Literally, he coined the phrase. Not played entitely straight in that it never says he wants to blot out the sun altogether, but rather the blanket of Darkness around the world will ensure his absolute control over it.
* NothingCanStopUsNow: After soundly beating the heroes on the roof of his castle, he gets cocky and makes the fatal error of letting Megan live so that she can watch him rein in TheNightThatNeverEnds from a front row seat.
%%* ObviouslyEvil
* OffWithHisHead: threatens to have Spike decapitated if Scorpan fails to get him four ponies to pull his chariot. He even has the head of a general that [[YouHaveFailedMe failed him one too many times]] mounted on the wall above his throne.
%%* OurCentaursAreDifferent
%%* PerpetualFrowner
* RagsToRoyalty: By his own hands, no less.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: He dishes out an epic one to Megan during their one and only confrontation.
* TheReveal: That he's a descendant of the Ancients.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: One-half of his motive.
* SadisticChoice: Every nation he sets out to conquer has this: Surrender to him without a struggle, or have their nation wiped off the face of the map.
%%* SlouchOfVillainy:
%%* TakeOverTheWorld:
* ThisCannotBe: When his Dark Element is overtaken by the Light Element.
* TheUsurper: To many, many lands.
* WouldHurtAChild: Yes. Yes, he would. In fact, here he does. He temperarily puts Ember through a PainfulTransformation just to test out the Transmorphing spell he's going to use on four adult ponies.%%What he does to Megan when they finally meet is even worse.%%What is it?
* YouCantThwartStageOne: [[spoiler: Why, yes. He ''does'' transmute four ponies and uses them as additional power conduits!]]

!!'''Beezen'''

* AscendedExtra: In the original cartoon, he was just a one-shot villain who enchanted the furniture of Paradise Estate, bringing it to life in order to drive out the ponies and claim the abode for himself. Here, he's Tirac's former [[TheDragon Dragon]] and current Dr. Claw-like puppet master working in the shadows.
* BigBad: Seems to have taken over this role in Tirac's absence.
* BlackMagic: A practitioner of the Arcane Arts, a forbidden form of magic.
* DeadpanSnarker: A good portion of his dialogue just drips with sarcasm.
* TheDragon: Tirac's right-hand man.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: He's not really loyal to Tirac (and the latter is well-aware of that fact). He's just using him as a means to get funding for his research. Of course, he will complete every task given to him by his "emperor".
* DarkerAndEdgier: Though one of the more (relatively) dangerous villains in the old cartoon, his original incarnation ''has nothing'' on his ''Chronicles'' self.
* ElementalPowers: Though he uses Arcane Arts, the first school of magic he mastered was [[PlayingWithFire Fire Magic]].
* EvilCounterpart: To Christopher, a good-nature water magi.
%%* EvilMentor: To his students.
%%* EvilSorcerer
* ForScience: His entire motive. He is described as having an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He remains loyal to Tirac throughout the first arc because it allows him limitless research resources.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Right now, he's searching for some kind of mythical stone, but whether it's the Flutterponies' Sun Stone or something else hasn't yet been revealed. However, it is certainly building up to a later event.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: It's revealed that he was once a lonely hermit living in the frozen northern wastes. Thanks to his partnership with Tirac, he certainly qualifies for the Nightmare part.
%%* {{Jerkass}}
%%* MadScientist
%%* MagnificentBastard
* SecretPassage: How he makes his escape during the fight against the good guys.
* TookALevelInBadass: Compared to his original incarnation on ''My Little Pony 'n' Friends'', where he was practically a HarmlessVillain, Beezen is quite a bit more dangerous in ''Chronicles''.
* YouHaveFailedMe: Completely averted. He takes failure from his underlings very well. Of course, he also knows that the ponies aren't to be under-estimated.
