!!'''Kamille Bidan'''
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Kamille_Bidan_5007.jpg]]
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/NobuoTobita (JP), Jonathan Lachlan-Stewart (EN)

The protagonist of ''ZetaGundam'', Kamille is a troubled teen whose home colony became the main base for the Titans, a tyrannical paramilitary force whom he grows to resent. This culminated in him joining the AEUG to fight the Titans, believing that someone should stand up for what he believes in. Though he can be reckless and arrogant, his character is marked by compassion, and as the series progresses, he vows to stop the war, no matter the personal cost.
----
* AceCustom: The Zeta Gundam, built and further customized to Kamille's specifications.
* AcePilot
* {{Archenemy}}: He and Jerid hit this point and never go back.
* BackToBackBadasses: Does this with his fellow pilots a lot, especially Quattro.
* BigBrotherMentor / SternTeacher: To Katz. Unfortunately, [[TheScrappy it's]] [[TooDumbToLive Katz]].
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Fa. They fight about everything, including, but no limited to, his piloting, her piloting, the other people on the ship, who is supposed to look after Shinta and Qum, why they're involved in the war...
* BerserkButton: Don't make fun of him for having a girly-sounding name if you don't want to get into a fight...at least until around the halfway point, after which he really doesn't care.
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Fa, after [[spoiler:Four's death]].
* CharacterDevelopment: Whilst still prickly, he chills out considerably over the course of the series. He also loses his RevengeOverReason tendencies
* CharacterTics: Chewing on his thumbnail when under stress.
* ChickMagnet: Mostly because he's a super-Newtype, causing him to attract [[PhlebotinumGirl Phlebotinum Girls]] right and left, as well as having a more natural relationship with Fa.
* FixFic: Tomino retconned Kamille's fate in the compilation films unsatisfied with his dark ending.
* {{Foil}}: To Jerid and Scirocco. See their entries for more on that.
* ComicBookFantasyCasting: The [[http://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/138693 artwork]] for a ''Zeta'' symphonic soundtrack album turns him into MarkHamill.
* GenderBlenderName: Kamille particularly hated his feminine-sounding name[[note]]though "Camille" is technically gender neutral[[/note]] - and thus tried to assert his manhood by learning martial arts and developing a hobby in amateur mobile suit creation.
--> "''Kamille's a Man's name! '''AND I'M A MAN!'''''"
* GenerationXerox: He might have inherited the hobby in ameteur mobile suit creation from his parents: both were Federation officers and among the main engineering team that designed the Titan's prototype unit, RX-178 Gundam Mk-II.
* HotBlooded: While fighting. He's sometimes like this outside his mecha too, if angered enough, especially early on. Later he learns to control his emotions, but he still can get pretty loud if you piss him off.
* HurtingHero
* {{Hypocrite}}: He often rants about how his enemies are murderers when they shoot down his friends, yet he has the highest kill count of anyone in show. He justifies it to himself on the basis that his targets are often wanton killers who could care less about TheLawsAndCustomsOfWar, whereas Kamille insists that he kills because he doesn't have much of a choice.
* ItsPersonal: With Jerid, especially after the Titans' pilot kills [[spoiler:Four]].
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold
* JustFriends: He and Fa will claim this is what they are if you ask. [[EveryoneCanSeeIt Everyone on ship knows better]].
* LightningBruiser: The Zeta Gundam.
* LoveAtFirstSight: With Four. It's a Newtype thing.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: From the Gundam Mark II to the Zeta Gundam. He is also the first Gundam protagonist to do this (not including the novel version of MobileSuitGundam, where Amuro switches from the RX-78-2 to the G3 Gundam).
* MilitaryBrat: Both mom and dad worked for the Titans.
* MoodSwinger: Kamille's moods are unstable at best. He can swing from happy to sad to enraged in the space of a few seconds.
* MoralMyopia: He cuts down countless opponents, but flips out and calls you a murderer if you touch one of his friends. Jerid is fond of calling him out on this.
* ParentalAbandonment: [[spoiler:During the course of the war with the Titans, Kamille witnessed the death of both his parents, first love and friends.]]
* PsychicPowers Of course. He's a Newtype, but doesn't accept it until late in the series.
** A VERY powerful Newtype as well. The actions Kamille pulls off in the Zeta at the end of the series are completely insane, even for a Newtype, [[spoiler: such as making the Zeta totally invunerable with a forcefield generated by the biosensor and his Newtype power, extending the Beam Saber into an energy whip that had to be at least- 2 miles long, and then freezes The O in place so he can crash the Waverider straight through the cockpit.]] Take a minute to remember this is [[RealRobotGenre a Gundam series.]]
* RammingAlwaysWorks: [[spoiler:At the end of ''Zeta'', he channels the power of the dead and impales Scirocco on Zeta's waverider mode nose]].
* RevengeBeforeReason: Kamille displays a tendency to seek revenge without thought for the consequences from the start of the series. In the first two episodes alone he attacks a member of the Titans with his fists for making an off-hand comment about how girly his name sounds, calls a Military Police officer who has him in custody a brute, attacks said officer physically when he throws something at Kamille for insulting him -- in the middle of the prison and just after his mother's lawyer comes to bail him out... And then he runs out of the prison, ignoring the chaos all around him from a crashed mobile suit and his mother's presence, to [[GrandTheftPrototype Gundamjack]] the MkII Gundam for the purpose of "getting back" at the [=MP=] officer for having him beaten in response to being attacked. He even ends up joining the [=AEUG=] as part of his way of "getting even" with the Titans, after first menacing the aforementioned [=MP=] officer with his newly hijacked mobile suit.
* [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Spell My Name With a C]]: You'll see his name as either Kamille Bidan, Camille Vidan, or any combination of the two. The official romanisation is 'Kamille Bidan'.
* TheRival: He and Jerid have a nasty one going. It largely involves them killing one another's loved ones. Later on it becomes one sided on Jerid's part as Kamille has bigger things on his mind.
* StayInTheKitchen: Mildly. Kamille isn't especially comfortable with women going into combat, especially Fa and Reccoa (both of whom he has feelings for). He doesn't have this problem with Emma, though
** That's because Fa is a civilian girl who's barely learning how to handle herself in a mobile suit, while Reccoa ''has'' been in trouble before when in missions. On the other hand, Emma is the strongest ActionGirl in the whole series.
* TeenGenius: He was well-known as an amateur mecha builder before he left his colony. The dub goes so far as to suggest that he designed the Zeta Gundam himself, though that isn't quite true: what actually happened was that he saw the Hyaku-Shiki's blueprints, and noticed the unfinished transformation system[[note]]Hyaku-Shiki was originally supposed to be the transforming prototype, but its builders could never get the system working[[/note]], had a few ideas on improving it and sent a report to Anaheim's engineers, who were able to use his ideas to complete the transformable frame and build it into the Zeta. In essence he came up with the basic design concepts and the name, Anaheim refined it into the proof-of-concept mobile suit.
* TransformingMecha: The Zeta Gundam.
* WouldHitAGirl: Ask Lila about that. Or Rosamia. Or, outside of combat, Beltorchika.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: [[SelfDemonstratingArticle It's blue.]]

!!'''Quattro Bajeena (Char Aznable)'''
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Quattro_B_2368.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: Creator/ShuichiIkeda (Japanese), Tom Edwards (English)

A top AEUG pilot and former Zeon ace, Quattro acts as a mentor figure to Kamille and the younger MS operators in the crew.
----
* AcePilot
* {{Badass}}
** BackToBackBadasses: Does this regularly with Kamille.
* BerserkButton: While he has no love for the Zabi family, he goes completely ballistic when [[spoiler: he realizes that Haman has turned Mineva into a puppet]].
* BigBrotherMentor: To Kamille.
* BlingBlingBang: The golden MSN-00100 Hyaku-Shiki. It's an antibeam coating.
* CantCatchUp: A mild example. He's still one of the best (if not ''the'' best) pilots in the series, but he's fairly weak for a Newtype, and ''Zeta Gundam'' is absolutely saturated with powerful Newtypes who can compete with him one-on-one and expect to win. He's still a respectable ace, but nowhere near the FinalBoss he was in ''Anime/MobileSuitGundam''.
* CharacterShilling: Happens a lot. [[spoiler:Read: IJustWantToBeNormal below for the reasons to why.]]
* CharClone: He ''is'' Char.
* CoolShades
** [[SunglassesAtNight Sunglasses In Space]]
* EnemyMine: He and Amuro still don't get along.
* {{Ephebophile}}: If he and Haman did have a relationship, she would have been in her early teens and he would have been in his twenties. Yech.
** If you're wondering, side materials indicate that he and Haman were never romantically involved; he was more of a mentor to her. That said, Haman did have a crush on him.
** To make matters worse, during their battle Haman asks Char if he would consider going back to her. His response is something of bewilderment.
* FlawedPrototype: The Hyaku-Shiki was ''supposed'' to be the [[TransformingMecha transforming]] Delta Gundam, but the technicians couldn't make the Wave Rider mode work properly.
* FourIsDeath: [[CaptainObvious Quattro means "four".]] In a more meta sense, it's also the fourth name the character has gone by.
** [[spoiler: Subverted. Quattro is alive and kicking after the end. He only dies in the movie after he goes back to Char.]]
* FragileSpeedster: The Hyaku-Shiki is fast, manouverable, and well-armed, and it's antibeam coating ''should'' make it immune to laser fire. Yet the show repeatedly demonstrates that it simply doesn't have the durability of other {{Super Prototype}}s, like the Zeta Gundam, The O, and the Qubeley, and it is frequently manhandled at close ranges. In retrospect, giving it a layer of paint as its primary defence probably wasn't a good idea. Although when you consider that [[AllThereInTheManual the Hyaku-Shiki was to be a]] TransformingMecha as the Delta Gundam (see SuperPrototype below), [[TheWorfEffect he was just probably shortchanged]].
* GoodIsNotNice: While he's doing his best to be a good guy in this series, Char's LackOfEmpathy leads him to be a major {{Jerkass}}.
* [[spoiler: HeroicSacrifice]]: [[spoiler:Char was last seen attempting a [[TakingYouWithMe mutual kill]] against Haman in the final stages of the Gryps Conflict. He fails]].
* {{Hypocrite}}: Whether it's lecturing Amuro on getting over Lalah, getting mad at Haman for manipulating a member of the Zabi family, or being outraged by Axis-Zeon's treachery, Char spends most of the show calling people out on things he has no right to call them out on. Although if you will consider the next trope, it probably makes sense that [[ThatManIsDead he was trying to distinguish himself as "Quattro" from his time as "Char."]]
* IJustWantToBeNormal: He's way happier as a battlefield pilot and BigBrotherMentor for the AEUG than a political figure - which is a bit of a problem for everyone else, since as the Red Comet ''and'' the son of Zeon Deikun, he'd be a really ''useful'' political figure. In fact, Haman outright hates him for it. The last handful of episodes show Char's frustration at not being allowed to go out and fight, as by this point he has become the AEUG's de facto leader. [[spoiler: No wonder he went off the deep end as of ''[[MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Char's Counterattack]]''.]]
* IncestSubtext: Seeing as Haman basically looks like a purple-haired Sayla (only the fringe/bangs are different), if Char had a relationship with her it would be problematic for a variety of reasons.
* {{Jerkass}}: Even here, at his very best, Char is still kind of a jackass.
* LackOfEmpathy: As he points out to Kamille, just because he's older doesn't mean that he necessarily knows anything about emotions. He's better than he used to be, but that's not saying much. A lot of the things "Quattro" says make more sense when you realize that he's a man without empathy trying to pretend he does.
* NoSympathy: Even when attempting to empathise with people, "Quattro" at best manages to hit this trope, acknowledging why they feel the way they do, and still not caring or responding appropriately.
* ObliviousToLove: Due to his LackOfEmpathy, Quattro tends not to realize when women are in love with him, and brushes their feelings aside without even noticing how much he's hurting them. This makes him a couple of enemies (Haman, Reccoa).
* PaperThinDisguise
** Somewhat [[JustifiedTrope justified]] in that there are only two (living) people in the entire universe who actually saw what Char looked like under the mask. (Although probably more knew what he sounded like)
** Even then, it's implied that most people in the AEUG know who he really is, but keep quiet since he isn't admitting it himself.
** Bright Noa saw through his disguise almost immediately, as he refers to him as Captain Quattro (Captain was Char's rank in the Zeon military). Char corrects him by saying his rank is Lieutenant.
* SuperPrototype: The Hyaku-Shiki (It apparently began life as the MSN-001 Delta Gundam as detailed in ''[[AllThereInTheManual Mobile Suit Variations]]'', supposed to have its own Wave Rider mode prior to the Zeta hence the verniers at its back. The concept was revisited in the [[MobileSuitGundamUnicorn Delta+]]).
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Quattro's last name has many romanisations, including but not limited to Bajeena/Bagina/Vagina/Vageena/Vajeena. The Gundam Perfect Files, which are usually a good source on proper romanisations (particularly for Gundam series that have not been licensed in America) spells it as Vageena. For obvious reasons, English speaking fans refer to him as Quattro Bajeena, which is Bandai Entertainment's chosen romanisation.
* TakingYouWithMe: [[spoiler:Tries it on Haman Khan. They both survive.]]
* ThemeNaming: Quattro is the fourth name [[RedBaron The Red Comet]] has used, after Casval Rem Daikun, Edward Mass and Char Aznable.
* UnfortunateNames: His name is sometimes romanized as 'Quattro Bagina'. And considering the letter B in Japanese is sometimes romanized as a V... you get the idea. It is actually romanized as "Quattro Vagina" in the PS1 CharsCounterattack game ([[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3fLdd-nQdU proven here]]) as well as the SD Gundam G-Generation series.
* WaveMotionGun: The Mega-Bazooka.

'''Fa Yuiry'''
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Fa_Yuiry_1292.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: Miyuki Matsuoka, SatomiArai (Japanese), Angie Beers (English)

Kamille's best friend in his home colony, Fa joins up with the AEUG after they save the escape pod she was in. Determined to prove herself to Kamille and the rest of the AEUG she undergoes pilot training to try and stay useful.
----
* ActionSurvivor: The mecha anime equivalent. She doesn't score any brilliant kills, or [[TookALevelInBadass take a level in badass]], or anything like that, but she survives ''Zeta'', which is a victory in and of itself.
* AnimeChineseGirl
* BelligerentSexualTension: Alternates between this and DoggedNiceGirl with regards to Kamille. It's easier to count the times when they aren't fighting about something.
* CantCatchUp: She tries ''very'' hard, but the Methuss... well, sucks when compared to other mechas.
** This becomes a plot point in ''MobileSuitGundamZZ'', where the inability of the AEUG to repair the Methuss and her increasing friction with Judau's more relaxed posse [[spoiler:leads her to [[PutOnABus pretty much taking an enforced leave of absence]] from the AEUG]].
* ChildhoodFriendRomance: With Kamille, eventually, after Kamille recovers from loving and losing Four, and the aftermath of what Scirocco did to him. [[spoiler:Even the 2006 compilation movies end with her and Kamille embracing in the void of space after surviving the Gryps Conflict.]]
* ClingyJealousGirl: A mild example. She's certainly very suspicious anytime Kamille talks to another girl. Most pronounced with Rosamia and her delusion that Kamille is her elder brother. Fa is clearly annoyed by Rosamia, but she also seems to realize that Kamille's interest in Rosamia has nothing to do with romance, and doesn't do much to interfere.
* [[DoggedNiceGuy Dogged Nice Girl]]: To Kamille. It's not that he doesn't notice her, it's just that there's a lot of other stuff going on in his life right now.
* {{Expy}}: A more childish, less composed ActionGirl Frau Bow--her relationship with Kamille even mimics the one that Frau had with Amuro, with '''way''' more arguing and less support, albeit with a different ending.
* FirstGirlWins: Notable, as Kamille doesn't love her anywhere near as much as he loved Four. But because Four died and Kamille was mind-crushed by Scirocco she ended up taking care of him.
* JustFriends: She and Kamille will both claim this is what they are.
* LoveMartyr: To a degree, following Kamille and putting up with him when nobody else will.
* PantyShot: She's the only one who normally doesn't wear pants, and in zero-g, that means she gets an upskirt shot whenever the camera feels like it.
* PluckyGirl
* SatomiArai: In TheMovie.
* ShesGotLegs: The ED features her running alongside Haro, letting her show off a part of long and shapely legs.
* TeamMom
* {{Tsundere}}: Type B/deredere.

'''Emma Sheen'''
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Emma_Sheen_1527.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: MayaOkamoto (Japanese), Lisa Christie (English)

A former Titans' pilot, Emma jumped ship to the AEUG after realising what sort of people she was working for. She is close to Kamille and Captain Bekkener, and serves as a substitute mother to Katz Kobayashi, whom she does her best to keep out of trouble.
----
* ActionGirl
* ArmorPiercingSlap: Delivered to Kamille, more often than not. She also memorably slapped Fa ''twice'' in the same scene.
* CoolBigSis: To Kamille and Fa.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Originally part of the Titans; switched sides after learning how much of a group of evil bastards the Titans were.
* DesignatedGirlFight: [[spoiler:With Reccoa.]]
* EmpoweredBadassNormal: Only develops her Newtype abilities well after her credentials as an ace have been established.
* HeelFaceTurn: Very early on.
* HeyItsThatVoice: MayaOkamoto's ''debut'' role.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Henken towers over her.
* [[spoiler:KilledOffForReal: By Yazan Gable, following her battle with Reccoa.]]
* LadyOfWar
* MidSeasonUpgrade: Becomes the regular pilot of the Gundam Mark II following Kamille's promotion to the Zeta.
* OfficialCouple: With Captain Bekkener.
* OnlySaneMan: Often. Out of all the cast members she's easily the one who grabs the IdiotBall the least.
* ParentalSubstitute: To Katz while they are at the front.
* PsychicPowers: Demonstrates the ability to sense powerful Newtypes, even at a distance, and can also sense the deaths caused by a gas attack on a colony.
* StateSec: For about two minutes.
* TeamMom
* [[spoiler:VasquezAlwaysDies: The most competent female pilot in the show (barring [[DarkActionGirl Haman Khan]]). Ends up very dead.]]

'''Henken Bekkener'''
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/95473_7036.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: Creator/JurotaKosugi (Japanese--''debut'' role), Dave Pettitt (English)

The captain of the ''Argama'' and then the ''Radish'', Henken Bekkener forms close friendships with Kamille Biden, Emma Sheen, and the rest of the AEUG pilots. Like Emma, he is often a voice of reason among the AEUG leadership.
----
* {{Adorkable}}: Normally Henken's a very calm person, but when he tries putting the moves on Emma Sheen he immediately heads straight into this territory.
* BadassBeard
* BadassMoustache
* CannotSpitItOut: His early attempts at hitting on Emma inevitably end up like this.
* TheCaptain
** TheGoodCaptain
* DoggedNiceGuy : To Emma.
* GeniusBruiser
* GentleGiant
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: With Emma.
* [[spoiler:KilledOffForReal: By Yazan Gable.]]
* LargeAndInCharge
* OfficialCouple: He and Emma have come to an understanding by the end of the series.
* OnlySaneMan: Shares this role with Emma, acting as a rational adult on a team of otherwise childish screw-ups.
* [[spoiler:SenselessSacrifice: Gets himself and his ship blown up to save Emma. She dies soon afterwards.]]
* TeamDad

'''Reccoa Londe'''
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Reccoa_Londe_3042.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: MasakoKatsuki (Japanese), Meredith Taylor-Parry (English)

A pilot aboard the ''Argama'', Reccoa Londe suffers from a massive inferiority complex, which sabotages her effectiveness on numerous occasions. She's eventually [[spoiler:captured by Yazan and defects to Scirocco]].
----
* ActionGirl: While she's not a match for the real aces, she's not actually a ''bad'' pilot, and even manages to pull Kamille's fat out of the fire while piloting the Methuss (which is not exactly a top-grade mobile suit). [[spoiler: After her HeelFaceTurn, she becomes a genuinely dangerous opponent.]]
* AllAmazonsWantHercules: Her characterisation boils down to "I want a strong man, I want a strong man. There must be one around here somewhere."
* [[spoiler:BrainwashedAndCrazy: 'The Call Of Darkness' implies this to be [[MoreThanMindControl part of]] the reason for her FaceHeelTurn.]]
* CoolBigSis: Gives this vibe at first.
* [[spoiler:DoesNotLikeMen: Spouts this sort of rhetoric after her FaceHeelTurn, while still complaining about her need to find a "strong" man and be fullfilled as a woman. It's pretty pathetic. ([[FridgeBrilliance And likely, that's the point.]])]]
* [[spoiler:EvenEvilHasStandards: She was VERY happy to get rid of Bask]]
* [[spoiler:EvilCounterpart]]: [[spoiler: To Emma Sheen]]
* [[spoiler:EvilRedhead]]
* [[spoiler:FaceHeelTurn]]
* GloryHound: Reccoa's obsessed with looking good and having the respect of those around her.
* InformedAbility: Is supposed to be a superb spy, but gets captured easily at least twice.
* InHarmsWay: "I guess I don't feel alive unless I'm living on the edge."
* [[spoiler:KilledOffForReal: If she wasn't dead after Emma defeated her, she certainly was when Yazan destroyed her mobile suit.]]
* [[spoiler:LoveMakesYouEvil]]
* MasakoKatsuki
* MoralMyopia: Accuses Char of being a SelfishEvil creep who thinks the world revolves around him. She's not wrong, but given her own behaviour it's damned funny. And then there's her constantly expecting [[spoiler:special treatment from the ''Argama'' crew whenever she attacks them, while being totally unwilling to do the same.]]
* [[spoiler: PsychicPowers]]: [[spoiler: Displays Newtype abilities shortly after her defection, saving the ''Alexandria'' from Quattro's Mega-Bazooka.]]
* [[spoiler:RapeAsBackstory: Implied in the second-to-last episode. It certainly would put quite the spin on her FamousLastWords.]]
* SixthRanger: To [[spoiler:the Titans and Scirocco's crew in particular.]]
* SmallNameBigEgo: Reccoa's not a ''bad'' pilot, but the opinion of her piloting skill is truly inflated.
* StreetUrchin: She was one before joining the AEUG.
* TeamMom
* TookALevelInBadass: [[spoiler:After defecting to Scirocco.]]
* WomanScorned: Her reason for hating Char as much as she does.
* [[spoiler: {{Yandere}}]]

A former Zeon pilot who finds employ with the AEUG. A man of few words, he acts as the leader of the Rick Diases, and racks up a fair number of kills, despite rarely being onscreen, forming something of a friendship with Kamille in the process.
----
* AcePilot: Apolly was a Zeon ace during the One Year War, and he earns his stripes again in this one, downing an impressive number of Titans' suits despite his rare appearances.
* AscendedExtra: Apolly and Roberto have a larger role in ''Char's Deleted Affair''. In fact, it's revealed that both of them were under Char's command back in the One Year War.
* BigDamnHeroes He does this surprisingly often for a minor character, [[spoiler:but he gets extra points for doing it once in the brand new Zeta Gundam]]
* DeadpanSnarker: One of his few personality traits that does shine through. He's constantly snarking, whether about Kamille and Fa, the stupidity of the situation, or even Mineva Zabi's entrance.
** AudienceSurrogate: And often ends up voicing what the fans are thinking as well.
* [[spoiler:KilledOffForReal: At the hands of Jerid Messa in Episode 45.]]

Pilot of the original Gundam during the One Year War, Amuro has gone into semi-retirement in order to deal with his post-traumatic stress disorder. He eventually returns to action, and forms a brief, but close partnership with Kamille.
----
* AceCustom: After returning into action with a red custom Rick Dias (basically the AEUG's EliteMook mobile suit), he gets the MSK-008 Dijeh (which has both the Zeon-ic aesthetics of their mobile suits while maintaining a Federation/Gundam-ish coloring).
** In at least two side-stories Amuro gets his own custom White Zeta Gundam, officially designated MSZ-006-3.
* AcePilot - [[CaptainObvious He's]] [[{{Badass}} Amuro Ray.]]
* {{Badass}}
* BigBrotherMentor: During the Hong Kong arc, Amuro sort-of takes Char's place as Kamille's mentor, as Char goes back to space.
* BrokenPedestal: Katz and to a lesser degree Kamille do not take their idol's [[ShellShockedVeteran shellshock]] well.
* DemotedToExtra: Only shows up in a handful of episodes.
* EnemyMine
* ExpectingSomeoneTaller: Beltorchika thought he'd look more warlike. Not that she minds.
* HesBack: First one: avoiding government agents and then ramming a mobile suit with a transport. His true one is when he pilots the Rick Dias and is able to adapt to the seven years advanced technology and hits Hi-Zacks through a thick fog.
* JapanesePronouns: Interesting case. When we first see him with Frau and the kids, he's still using the same ''boku'' from [[MobileSuitGundam when he was 16]]. As soon as he goes back to the warpath, though -- with the exception of Mirai and ''her'' kids, and with Beltochika -- it's ''ore,'' straight through. TruthInTelevision, since Amuro's now older ''and'' harder, DarkerAndEdgier, but it really shows how he's changed.
* KnightInSourArmor
* OlderAndWiser
* PsychicPowers
* RetiredBadass
* ShellShockedVeteran
* SternTeacher: Slightly, towards Kamille and Katz. Though he actually he's easy on Kamille, compared to the others. [[spoiler:Except when he sends him back into space at gunpoint. Hey, guess it's not a slap]]
* StillGotIt
* TookALevelInBadass: Who needs a Gundam? Between his cargo plane hijackings or attempts to make a one-man action movie [[spoiler:rescuing Mirai and her family]], Amuro is frequently more interesting to watch ''without'' an MS.
* TroubledButCute

!Beltorchika Irma
!!! Voice Actors: Creator/MariaKawamura (Japanese), Kris Rundle (English)

* CelebCrush: On Amuro
* ClingyJealousGirl: Partially, since she's clingy yet has no real love rival.
** CharacterDevelopment: Later in the series, she has changed for the better and aknowledges how childish she used to be. Quite the growth for a ClingyJealousGirl.
* GreenEyes: Almost qualifies for GreenEyedMonster.
* HeroWorshipper: Of Amuro Ray.
* [[spoiler: HotScoop: After her CharacterDevelopment.]]
* NoAccountingForTaste: Rare genderflipped version, since nobody really understands why Amuro puts up with her. The truth is that she's an excuse for him to not go back to the front.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: Appearance wise, she's one for Sayla Mass (as far as personality goes she has next to nothing in common with the calm, coolly competent Sayla).

!Jamitov Hymem
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Jamitov_Hymem_2421.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: MasaruIkeda, TomomichiNishimura (Japanese), Steve Olson (English)

The leader of the Titans, Admiral Jamitov Hymem has grander ambitions than simply running the Earth Federation's StateSec. He hopes to gain control of the whole Earth Sphere for himself, and is prepared to use any means necessary to get that power.
----
* AmbitionIsEvil
* BeardOfEvil: His goatee.
* TheBigBad: [[spoiler:Until Scirocco kills him and takes over the role.]]
** NonActionBigBad: He's the leader of Titans, and the BigBad for most of the show, yet he never participates in any combat operations in any sort of role.
* TheChessmaster
* CommissarCap: When in uniform.
* [[spoiler:DiscOneFinalBoss: Killed in Episode 46, allowing Scirocco to take over as TheBigBad]]
* EvilMentor: Late in the series he takes Jerid under his wing.
* EvilOldFolks
* FlatCharacter: For such a key figure in UC history, Jamitov's characterisation, motivations, and personality aren't really explored, leaving him as something of a cipher.
* HeyItsThatVoice: Tomomichi "[[StreetFighter M. Bison]]" Nishimura, anyone?
* HiddenAgendaVillain: We know for most of the series that the Titans aren't just about hunting Zeon, but it takes a little while for Jamitov's true motives to become apparent.
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: Perhaps the single greatest example of this trope in history. He chooses Bask for his [[TheDragon Dragon]], Jerid for his disciple, and allows Scirocco to acquire considerable power under him. All three of these men couldn't care less about his plans - Bask just uses Jamitov as a way to kill more Spacenoids, Jerid plans to eventually supplant Jamitov, and Scirocco plans to supplant Jamitov without the 'eventually'. For the icing on the cake, he repeatedly attempts to court favor with Haman Kahn, though she tries to kill him in ''every single meeting they have''.
* InsaneAdmiral: Literally. He suffers from obvious megalomania and is an Earth Federation admiral.
* KickTheDog: When [[spoiler: he has AEUG leader Blex assassinated.]]
* LargeAndInCharge
* ManipulativeBastard
* SmugSnake: Jamitov's smart and a survivor, but he also thought a blood pact would be enough to control ''Scirocco'' of all people.
* SoldiersAtTheRear: Never takes part in combat operations, even in a command role.
* TakeOverTheWorld
* WarForFunAndProfit: Uses the war against the AEUG to secure his own power.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:According to side material, [[http://www.mechatalk.net/viewtopic.php?p=118415#p118415 a link]], and several scenes throughout the series, Jamitov actually hates Earthlings and is trying to get them into space. He hired a mad dog like Bask to brutalize colonists and stir up rebellion, triggering the collapse of the Earth Federation and a mass exodus to the colonies with him in charge.]]

!Bask Om
[[quoteright:300:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Bask_Ohm_2391.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: DaisukeGouri (Japanese), Noah Umholtz (English)

Jamitov's NumberTwo, Captain Bask Om serves as the Titans' field leader. A hulking brute with a pathological hatred of all colonials, Bask is responsible for the worst of the atrocities associated with the Titans' name.
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: How darkskinned Bask is seems to vary from scene to scene.
* BadBoss: Do not question this man's orders, however insane they might seem.
* BaldOfEvil
* BeingTorturedMakesYouEvil: More justified in this case than most--he hasn't joined the side that tortured him, after all.
* TheCaptain: A senior naval captain and one of the few Titans' officers to hold actual command rank.
** TheGoodCaptain: Not on your life.
* ColonelKilgore: He definitely has elements of this.
* CommissarCap: Sometimes.
* CorporalPunishment: Administers it to anyone who displeases him, most notably Bright.
* DeadlyGas: Orders two massive colony gassings.
* TheDragon: To Jamitov.
** DragonWithAnAgenda: He doesn't share Jamitov's politics or ambitions and just wants to kill a lot of colonists.
** DragonTheirFeet: Was nowhere to be seen when [[spoiler:Scirocco blew Jamitov away. He's killed shortly afterwards.]]
*** Interestingly, the movie trilogy corrects this oversight: [[spoiler:Bask is given a scene alongside Scirocco's speech, guessing right away that he killed Jamitov, only to be let himself be baited by Yazan into focusing on the AEUG instead. Pointedly, it's Yazan and not Reccoa who bumps him off later.]]
* ElectronicEyes: Maybe. See EyeScream and GogglesDoNothing below.
* EvilCripple: If the theories about his being blind are true. See EyeScream below for further details.
* EyeScream: According to some sources, those goggles are actually artificial eyes. He left his real ones behind in the Zeon POW camp where he spent most of the One Year War.
** He still has eyes. In an early episode he briefly takes off his goggles while talking to Jamaican. Whether they '''function''' any is the big question.
* FirstNameBasis: Everyone calls him Bask or Captain Bask, including his subordinates.
* FlatCharacter: Recieves very little character development in the actual show despite being a major antagonist. On the plus side, it makes his evil really stand out. Sidematerials have attempted to remedy this.
* FreudianExcuse: He spent most of the One Year War in a POW camp, being tortured by Zeon. Given that this information is only available in side materials it's played as an explanation, not a genuine excuse.
* GeneralRipper: Obsessed with the colonists and the AEUG in particular, to the point where he ignores [[spoiler:Scirocco's murder of Jamitov in order to focus on the ''Argama'']].
* GogglesDoNothing: Possibly. No one's sure if Bask's eyes are functional, or if he needs the goggles to see. Either way they do a great job of invoking RedEyesTakeWarning.
* InsaneAdmiral: Bask's brutality is so extreme that madness may well be the best explanation for it. Sidematerials indicate he also has a truly horrible case of PTSD.
* LackOfEmpathy
* LargeAndInCharge
* NonActionGuy: He'll slap his subordinates around, and he isn't afraid to lead from the front, but Bask is not a combatant.
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Bask stands head and shoulders above the rest of the cast, and has a peculiarly elongated face that looks like it belongs on a far fatter man (Bask is big, but hardly overweight). And that's without mentioning the goggles that he almost never takes off, or his darker skintone.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His goggles fulfill this purpose.
* {{Revenge}}: [[AllThereInTheManual Side materials]] hint that the reason why he hates colonials so much is the fact that he was made into a [=POW=] and horrendously tortured by Zeon in the One Year War.
* ScaryBlackMan: [[AmbiguouslyBrown Maybe]].
* ShellShockedVeteran: If the sidestories are to be believed Bask never really left that Zeon POW camp.
* WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer: His solution to most problems? Punch them in the face. No, really!
* WouldHitAGirl: In addition to hitting [[spoiler:Reccoa]] in the face (see WhenAllYouHaveIsAHammer above), Bask has no problem with strapping a woman [[spoiler: (Kamille's mother)]] inside of a capsule, ejecting said capsule into space, and then sending Jerid out to shoot it down under the excuse that it's a bomb.

!Paptimus Scirocco
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Scirocco_1811.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: Creator/BinShimada (Japanese), Jonathan Love (English)

->''I'm merely a witness to history.''

An Earth Federation technical officer and fleet commander, Scirocco hails from Jupiter, where he and his fleet were sent to collect helium gas. He is eventually recruited by Admiral Jamtiov when the latter decides he needs reinforcements; unbeknownst to Jamitov, Scirocco has his own ambitions for the Earth Sphere, and is a very powerful Newtype to boot.
----
* AcePilot
* AmbiguousDisorder: Like Kamille, Scirocco is far more interested in machines than people, and has rather poor interpersonal skills (though he compensates with his PsychicPowers).
* AmbitionIsEvil
* ArmourIsUseless: Averted by his final mobile suit, The O, which is the only suit in-show to withstand multiple beam rifle bursts with no damage due to its incredibly thick plating.
* {{Badass}}
** BadassBookworm: He's a technician and mobile suit designer, but also an AcePilot to rival Amuro and Char.
* BadPowersBadPeople: See LackOfEmpathy below. He's pretty much the only Newtype in the Universal Century capable of using his powers to brainwash people.
* BewareTheSuperman: The single most sinister Newtype in the UC verse, Scirocco's a shining example of why normal humans were so afraid of them.
* [[spoiler:TheBigBad: Graduates from EnigmaticMinion to this after deposing Jamitov]].
** [[spoiler:BigBadDuumvirate: With Haman Kahn at the very end.]]
* BiggerIsBetter: His ship, the ''Jupitris'', is the largest in the Titans' fleet, and the suits he designs are all decidedly oversized as well. [[CompensatingForSomething Freud would have a field day.]]
** JustifiedTrope: The ''Jupitris'' is actually a transport vessel analogous to the supertankers of today and his mobile suits are all oversized to mount the numerous thrusters and verniers they need to operate in [[HeavyWorlder Jupiter's gravity well]].
* {{Bishonen}}
* BloodOath: He gives one to Jamitov when pledging his allegiance to the Titans. [[spoiler:It doesn't stop him from perforating Jamitov the moment he gets the chance.]]
* TheCasanova: A very dark take, using his good looks and charming facade to manipulate multiple women into doing his bidding. He's a gender-flipped FemmeFatale at points.
* TheChessmaster
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: Scirocco pretty much betrays everyone in order to achieve his goals. If you work for him, hire him, or care about him, watch out - he's just using you.
* ConsummateLiar
* CurtainsMatchTheWindow: Sometimes his hair and eyes are purple. Sometimes they are grey. They always match.
* CustomUniform: His white Titans uniform appears to be the only one of its kind.
* CyberCyclops: Most of the suits he designs, including The O. He's got a very Zeonic preference for monoeyes.
* DarkMessiah
* DeceptiveDisciple: To Jamitov.
* DespotismJustifiesTheMeans[=/=]UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: Scirocco talks like a VisionaryVillain, but since his actual objectives are never made clear (and let's face it, he's far from the most trustworthy person in the Universal Century) his motivations are pretty up in the air. The one thing that is clear is that he wants to rule the world.
* DualWielding: The O quadwields with its four arms.
* EnemyMine: He and Haman team up at the end to go after Char. They make for a lethal duo.
* EnigmaticMinion: Starts out this way and works his way up.
* {{Ephebophile}}: Hinted at with his thorough seduction of the fifteen-year-old Sarah Zabiarov, though he never shows any genuine sexual interest in her.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He does seem to have cared about Sarah, to the extent that a man like him ever cared about anything other than himself, as evidenced by his attack on Katz after [[spoiler:her death]].
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He prefers to distance himself from the bloodthirsty actions of his superiors Jamitov and Bask, and at one point even sends Sarah out to the AEUG to ruin one of their schemes. Granted, it was for self-serving purposes...
* EvilIsBigger: His mobile suits tend towards the large, with The O standing head and shoulders above every AEUG machine in production, and being at least twice as wide.
* EvilMentor: To Sarah Zabiarov, Reccoa Londe, Jerid Messa, and even Yazan Gable, of all people.
* {{Expy}}: Is heavily based off of Amandara Kamandara aka Emperor Oldna Poseidal, the BigBad of the pervious Tomino-directed series, [[HeavyMetalLGaim Heavy Metal L-Gaim]]. He himself has several expies in the form of [[Anime/MobileSuitVictoryGundam Tassilo Vargo]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Ribbons Almark]], and a CaptainErsatz in [[VideoGame/RivalSchools Kurow Kirishima]].
* [[spoiler:FamousLastWords: "I won't die alone. I'm going to take your soul with me, Kamille Bidan."]]
* FauxAffablyEvil: Scirocco tries to come off as polite and reasonable, but as he himself admits, he's just not very good at it.
* {{Foil}}: Given that they're both Newtype AcePilot mobile suit designers with {{Ambiguous Disorder}}s, one can see Scirocco as an older, more jaded, cynical Kamille, with his intelligence amplified into true genius, but his empathy almost completely gone. They're also representative of differing attitudes towards Newtypism, with Kamille being held up by other characters as an example of Newtypism at it's best, while Scirocco is the posterboy for BewareTheSuperman.
* FromNobodyToNightmare: He was just a minor official from Jupiter, but managed to manipulate his way into becoming the supreme leader of the Titans.
* GloriousLeader: Appears to be aiming for this role.
* GrayEyes[=/=]PurpleEyes: Like his hair colour, Scirocco's eye colour shifts between these depending upon the lighting.
* HeavyWorlder: Scirocco is from Jupiter, and his final mobile suit, The O, is meant to operate in his homeworld's gravity. As such, when flown in outer space or Earth's orbit it transforms from a heavily-armoured MightyGlacier to a LightningBruiser and becomes even more dangerous. All his other suits qualify as well to greater or lesser degrees.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: Decades after the original series ended, Scirocco's exact goals are ''still'' shrouded in mystery.
* {{Hypocrite}}: He's always telling people not to make the mistake of underestimating his Newtype powers, but makes the same mistake himself when he faces off against Kamille at the end of the series.
** StrawHypocrite: Scirocco talks a lot about empowering women, but given that he's essentially a glorified pick-up artist using his mind rape powers to have his way with them, it's fair to say that his beliefs are questionable at best.
* ImmuneToBullets: Not quite but very close: The O's thick armor allows it to tank beam fire from the Qubeley's funnels outright, something that no other suit is able to do.
* [[spoiler:ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice]]
* ImprobableAge: He's twenty-six.
* [[spoiler:KlingonPromotion: Played with. Scirocco has to knock off ''two'' Klingons to consolidate his power.]]
* KnightTemplar
* LackOfEmpathy: Perhaps best demonstrated by the nature of his PsychicPowers. The defining trait of a Newtype is their ability to perform empathic connections with others, understanding them without misconceptions and drawing on their strength through bonds of friendship. Scirocco simply uses it to better manipulate people, and shows no sign of seeing those he connects with as anything more than useful tools.
* LargeAndInCharge: The O is considerably larger than any regular issue suit of its era, or any Gundam that doesn't have "Psyco" attached to its name.
* LightIsNotGood
* LightningBruiser: His last mobile suit, the extremely dangerous PMX-003 The O. Justified in that his mobile suits were designed to operate in a Jovian (Jupiter's) gravity well, which is ''much'' stronger than the Earth's.
* ManInWhite: Scirocco's white uniform, which seems to be unique among the Titans.
* TheManBehindTheMan
* ManipulativeBastard: Scirocco toys with the emotions of his subordinates and enemies alike in order to provoke the response he wants.
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: Scirocco's talent for manipulating women might be the result of his pretty boy looks and ability to smooth talk, or he might be using his Newtype powers to screw with their heads. Which it is isn't made entirely clear.
* MeaningfulName: 'Scirocco' is a powerful Mediterranean wind
* MidSeasonUpgrade: The O, which he adopts during the last few episodes.
* MightyGlacier: The O is designed to be one of these in a Jovian gravity well. Turned loose on Earth it becomes a LightningBruiser.
* MrFanservice: Scirocco's bishie looks and magnificent bastardry make him rather popular with the female fanbase.
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: The O has four arms, each of which carries a beam sabre.
* {{Narcissist}}: Scirocco isn't totally callous when it comes to his pawns, but he's close enough, and has difficulty seeing them as anything more than possessions or extensions of his will. Even his UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans rhetoric has a certain "only ''I'' can save the world" edge to it, and his grandiose nature and inability to empathise with those who are not exactly like himself, makes him a strong candidate for being a pathological narcissist.
* PlayingBothSides: Plays the Titans, the Axis, and the AEUG against one another as he climbs to power. Only Haman Khan really catches on.
* PsychicPowers: One of the most powerful Newtypes to ever appear in-series, to the point where he's able to [[spoiler:MindRape the equally powerful Kamille as he's dying]] and is more or less broadcasting his presence to everyone in his general vicinity. His abilities include:
** AstralProjection
** MindManipulation
** MindRape: [[spoiler:Does this to Kamille as a retributory strike just before he dies]]
** [[MySignificanceSenseIsTingling My Newtype Sense Is Tingling]]
** PsychicLink
* RenaissanceMan: Starship captain, battlefield strategist, psychological mastermind, a smooth-talker, mobile suit designer, and Federation ace. He's a busy man.
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: He and Yazan Gable form a very twisted variant. Scirocco's a cultured psychological predator, with PsychicPowers, grand ambitions, and superb manipulative skills. Yazan's an actual predator with a nearly feral nature, [[BadassNormal no powers]] and a [[TheBrute direct way]] of handling problems. They get along very well.
* SocialDarwinist
* SoreLoser: See TakingYouWithMe.
* SpaceFighter: The Messala's altmode.
* TheStarscream
* TheStoic
** NotSoStoic - The only time we really see his frigid exterior crack is when [[spoiler:Sarah dies and he forgets all about the psychic battle he was waging just moments before in favor of going after her killer.]]
** Or when [[spoiler:The controls for The O lock up and the Zeta Gundam is about to impale him.]] But that one's a little more understandable.
* SuperPrototype: The PMX series, the set of unique and extraordinarily powerful mobile suits that he designed and built aboard the Jupitris. Of these, the PMX-003 The O is perhaps the one most iconically associated with him.
* TakeOverTheWorld: The only part of his plan that's made clear.
* TakingYouWithMe: A variation. As he's dying he lashes out with his PsychicPowers and manages to [[spoiler:MindRape Kamille into a coma]].
* TransformingMecha: His first mobile suit, the PMX-000 Messala, which transforms into a mobile armour.
* {{Ubermensch}}: The first example in the franchise, who plans to ram his sense of morality (whatever that may be) down everyone's throats.
* VillainousFriendship: He and Yazan Gable get along quite well, to everyone's surprise and confusion. Also, while he does view most people as pawns to use as he sees fit, [[spoiler:he goes completely berserk when Sarah Zabiarov dies, hinting that at least some of his leading her on might have meant something, especially as he doesn't do this for any other minion that dies.]]
* VisionaryVillain: Possibly. In case you hadn't noticed by now, [[ConsummateLiar Scirocco lies.]] [[UpToEleven A lot.]]
* WarForFunAndProfit: Scirocco didn't start the war with the AEUG, but he's more than willing to manipulate it for his own ends, with the ultimate goal of WorldDomination. Whether that domination's for [[WellIntentionedExtremist the better]] or [[DespotismJustifiesTheMeans the worse]] is the big question.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: Maybe. Scirocco might be out to [[UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans cut out the Earth Federation's corruption]]. Than again, he [[DespotismJustifiesTheMeans might just want to rule the world]].
* {{Wicked Cultured}}
* WorthyOpponent: Views Haman Khan, the one woman he can't manipulate, in this light.
* XanatosSpeedChess: Seems to be playing this throughout the series.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: It's either purple or grey depending on the lighting.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: [[spoiler:Pulls this on Jamitov and Bask towards the end]]

Jerid and Yazan's superior officer, Jamaican is a sycophantic Titans' commander who hangs onto every word Bask and Jamitov say. He and his men chase the ''Argama'' throughout the first half of the show.
----
* [[spoiler:AssholeVictim: Admit it--when Yazan killed him, you either didn't care at all or cheered.]]
* BadBoss: Drives Jerid and Mouar to (temporarily) ally with Scirocco.
* BlondGuysAreEvil
* DirtyCoward: He was happy to hide behind Yazan and let him soak up enemy fire. In the end, this really didn't work out for him.
* [[spoiler: [[KilledOffForReal Death]] by UnfriendlyFire]]: [[spoiler:Yazan lures Emma to kill Jamaican for interfering with his bloodlust.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: Jamaican isn't a psychopath like Yazan or Bask but he cares about nothing other than his own career.
* NonActionGuy
* PornStache: Jamaican wears his moustache AdolfHitler style.
* TheRival: Views Scirocco as as his rival within the Titans. Scirocco [[PaperTiger feels differently]].
* SmugSnake
* StarterVillain: His entire purpose is to chase Kamille and the ''Argama'' for the first part of the show, and then [[spoiler:die right around the time that Scirocco, Yazan, and the rest of the real threats appear.]]

[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Jerid_Messa_6790.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: Creator/KazuhikoInoue (Japanese), Ethan Cole (English)

->''I'll make that pompous fool kneel before me someday.''

Kamille's rival, Jerid possesses the personality of a school bully, and the attitude to match. He seeks to one day run the Titans himself, and to that end, aims to destroy Kamille and the stolen Gundams as a means of improving his reputation.
----
* AcePilot: Reaches this status around the same time Kamille does.
* AmbitionIsEvil
* AntiVillain: Jerid is a jackass who doesn't care about civilian casualties and will do anything to win a fight. And when you're on a team with [[SociopathicSoldier Yazan Gable]], [[DarkMessiah Paptimus Scirocco]], and [[GeneralRipper Bask Om]] that leaves you looking pretty good, as does his genuine concern for his subordinates and his love for Mouar.
* {{Archenemy}}: He and Kamille reach this status by the midpoint of the show. There's nothing Jerid won't do if it means getting rid of Kamille, and Kamille for his part, hates Jerid more than anyone save Scirocco.
* BadassNormal: For most the show, Jerid demonstrates no Newtype powers. He's still one of the few people who can give Kamille a run for his money.
** EmpoweredBadassNormal: In the last few episodes, Jerid begins to unlock his Newtype potential. The {{Irony}}.
** HandicappedBadass: Jerid spends a couple of episodes on crutches. He still tracks Kamille and Four across the mountains to deal with them.
* BattleCouple: With Mouar.
* BlondGuysAreEvil
* TheBully: Has the personality of a classic high school bully.
* CantCatchUp: He can never quite reach Kamille's level of skill, though that doesn't stop him from being extremely dangerous, especially when in UnstoppableRage mode.
* CartwrightCurse: [[spoiler: Falls for Lila and Mouar, both get killed off]].
* CharClone: In a story where [[TropeNamer Quattro Bajeena/the original Char Aznable]] exists, it is almost impossible to notice... but his rivalry with Kamille, his experience of learning about battle and being a person from women recalls [[MobileSuitGundam a lot of the tensions Amuro and Char had during the One Year War.]]
* CryForTheDevil: An absolute asshole, yeah, but the few times he gets to PetTheDog... ouch.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: Towards Jamitov, acting as his bodyguard and enforcer while planning to take control of the Titans at the first opportunity. After Scirocco's coup, Jerid acts as one of his best pilots, though his focus on killing Kamille and the fact that Scirocco doesn't really have an inner circle may cost him his dragon status.
* DeceptiveDisciple: To Jamitov, and one could argue, Scirocco. All Jerid cares about is leading the Titans one day, and he'll kiss up to whoever he has to in order to get there.
* EleventhHourSuperpower: Finally gains a Gundam equivalent, in the form of the Baund Doc, just in time for his final throwdown with Kamille.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He isn't a fan of gassing colonies but then again he just follows orders on it and doesn't protest.
* {{Foil}}: To Kamille, whose progress he mirrors throughout the show. They're both young, arrogant, {{ace pilot}}s with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. Jerid's JerkJock persona makes for a marked contrast with Kamille's InsufferableGenius, while his desire for promotions and personal glory, and weak Newtype status, set him apart from the genuinely committed, frighteningly powerful Kamille.
* FragileSpeedster: The Gabthley and especially the Byarlant are this when compared to the Gundam Mark II and Zeta Gundam. The Byarlant in particular is fast and very agile, but lacks both armour and armament when compared to its rivals.
* GlorySeeker: He seeks to one day lead the Titans and joined up for the fame. Dodges being a full-on GloryHound due to his concern for the troops under his command, and willingness to accept blame when he feels he hasn't lived up to his standards.
* HotBlooded
* ItsPersonal: With Kamille.
* JerkAss: A jerk to almost everyone who crosses his path. Though when you're a member of the Titans and that's the worst thing that can be said of you, you're diving right into AntiVillain territory.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Jerid is the only character to consistently call Kamille out on his MoralMyopia. For his own part, Jerid's fully aware that he himself is no better; he's just stopped caring.
* JerkJock: Jerid definitely gives off this vibe. It's easy enough to see him as the quarterback in an eighties teen movie.
* JustFollowingOrders: The worst of his crimes are committed while doing this.
* KnowWhenToFoldEm: Surprisingly yes. Jerid starts out as a HotBlooded idiot, but by the series' midpoint his ability to tell when a battle has been lost is what makes him officer material.
* LightningBruiser: The NRX-055 Baund Doc is a huge transformable mobile armour/mobile suit with thick armour plating, a powerful armament, and enough thrusters to let it keep up with the Zeta in terms of both agility and speed.
* LoveAtFirstPunch: He had a crush on DarkActionGirl Lyla, who beat him up at least twice during practice.
* MechaMooks: Initially pilots a Hizack, the standard {{mook}} suit.
* NecessarilyEvil: How he views the worst of the Titans' actions.
* OvershadowedByAwesome: Jerid consistently comes out on the worse end of his fights with Kamille, making him appear to be a relatively poor pilot. The thing to remember, though, is that Kamille is a supremely powerful Newtype in a SuperPrototype suit and Jerid is not. Whenever he fights somebody other than Kamille, he tends to acquit himself just fine.
* RealMenWearPink: Or pilot a pink Baund Doc anyway. A custom colour scheme for his Baund Doc exists, but wasn't animated for some reason, leading him to use Rosamia's colours instead.
* RedOniBlueOni: He and Mouar are a romantic variation. He's the red to her blue.
* TheRival: To Kamille, though as the series goes on, it becomes one sided on Jerid's part.
* SuperPrototype: Becomes a test pilot for numerous new models, including the Gabthley, Byarlant, and Baund Doc, all of them far better than your average {{mook}} suit, and none of which ever entered mass production.
** FlawedPrototype: Only a single Byarlant was ever produced, since the machine, while fast and highly manouverable, lacks the ability to utilise most handheld weapons, leaving it dependant upon built-in beam sabres and guns.
* TookALevelInBadass: Jerid evolves from a worthless VillainOfTheWeek to an AcePilot in a SuperPrototype mobile suit, whose threat level is near [[BigBad Big Bads]] Haman and Scirocco. Even Haman herself was shocked durring his UnstoppableRage [[spoiler:at her after she attempted to assassinate Jamitov: he ''would'' have killed her had the AEUG not interfered. He's also responsible for killing Apolly near the end.]]
* TransformingMecha: The Gabthley and the Baund Doc both transform between mobile armour and mobile suit.
* UnholyMatrimony: With Mouar. Somewhat one-sided because Mouar isn't really villainous, just an antagonist.
* UnstoppableRage: You do not want to fight Jerid after killing one of his allies. You really don't.
* VillainousUnderdog: Jerid is outgunned, outclassed, and overpowered by Kamille. That never stops him from giving near as good as he gets.
* VillainousValor: Given that his entire shtick boils down to "Fight the telepathic and telekenetic hero and his SuperPrototype with my own skills and a mook suit" this trope is definitely in play.
* WeakButSkilled: He's not the Titans' top pilot, but he tends to give a remarkably good accounting of himself despite weak/nonexistent Newtype powers and a long line of inferior suits.
* YouKilledMyFather: Mother actually. His and Kamille's long and bloody feud begins with Jerid's accidental murder of Kamille's mother, Hilda Bidan.

!Yazan Gable
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Yazan_Gable_3889.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: HochuOtsuka (Japanese), Corby Proctor (English)

->''I'm gonna violate you!''

A Titans officer with a love of bloodshed, Yazan is the most capable Oldtype pilot introduced in the show. Raised by a mother who disdained all trappings of culture, Yazan is an almost feral predator, who lives only to prove his superiority.
----
* AcePilot: One of the Titans' best MS pilots, with the highest killcount of the war. Tactically, he's a classic bushwhacker, using the terrain, and superior tactics to outmanouvere [[PsychicPowers Newtypes]] and {{Super Prototype}}s.
* AnimeHair: Part-bouffant, part-Mohawk, part-mullet, part balding... it's quite the look, isn't it?
** His FanNickname is "[[RecycledinSpace Space]][[BeavisandButthead Beavis]].
* AxeCrazy: Downplayed. Yazan ''is'' dangerously insane, but his evil, rather than his madness, recieves the most emphasis, and his general characterization is that of a brutal uncaring thug rather than a cackling madman.
* BadassNormal: Yazan is neither a Newtype nor the pilot of a SuperPrototype. He still kills more AEUG members than any other Titan, at a point in the show when those without special abilities or suits were generally being relegated to the backburner. Kamille lampshades this during their first battle, noting "He's got lots of experience, but I don't feel any psychic pressure. He's just strong."
* BlondGuysAreEvil
* BloodKnight: Yazan's always spoiling for a fight; he enjoys both the adrenaline rush of combat and the [[PsychoForHire chance to kill AEUG members]].
* BookDumb: An uneducated brute, but far from stupid. Most of his victories in fact, come from outsmarting the opposing pilots.
* TheBrute: Yazan is the Titans' and then Scirocco's attack dog. He's invaluable due to his cunning, viciousness, and skill as a pilot, but is never promoted past Lieutenant because he's simply not the kind of guy you give any real authority to.
* CombatPragmatist: Yazan's an ambush predator by nature. He utilises the terrain, decoys, team attacks, and anything else that will give him an advantage. The man may be a BloodKnight, but there's no HonourBeforeReason.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Subverted - he refused to partake in a gassing operation but this is because he prefers to kill one-on-one.
* EvilIsNotPacifist: Yazan is a serious war-junkie, joining the Titans so he would have an excuse to act on his violent impulses. Without war he'd be in serious trouble.
* {{Expy}}: According to [[WordOfGod character designer Yoshikazu Yasuhiko]], he is this to Feyd-Rautha (as played by the musician Sting) from Dune. He has his own FountainOfExpies in [[GundamZZ Rakan Dahkaran]], [[GundamSEEDAstray Ash Grey]], [[{{Gundam 00}} Ali Al-Saachez]], [[{{Gundam AGE}} Decil Galette]], and [[CodeGeass Luciano Bradley]], and has a DistaffCounterpart in [[CharsCounterattack Rezun Schneider]].
* ExtraEyes: The RX-139 Hambrabi features five Zeonic monoeyes, allowing it to see in all directions.
* FlawedPrototype: The Gaplant was rushed into production and has a blind spot. This does not stop Yazan from being very dangerous with it.
* HeManWomanHater: Yazan has no respect for females who think they can fight.
* HeroKiller: Kills [[spoiler:Katz, Henken, the entire crew of the ''Radish'', Reccoa and Emma (all in the space of one episode)]], arranges for the death of [[spoiler:Jamaican and one of the ''Argama'''s BridgeBunnies]], and damn near kills Kamille himself on several separate occasions, to the point where the young man is actually terrified of him.
* [[spoiler: KarmaHoudini: Although he does get his ass kicked by Kamille near the end of Zeta, he still manages to escape with his life and remains at large, as proven near the beginning of ZZ.]]
* KickTheSonOfABitch: [[spoiler:Killing Jamaican.]]
* LackOfEmpathy
* MakeItLookLikeAnAccident: Gets Emma Sheen to fire at him, than dodges so that the blast will hit [[spoiler:Jamaican]], whom he hated.
* MommasBoy: His mother, with her disdain for education and intellectualism, definitely left her mark on her thuggish son, who has nothing positive to say about his father (or his mother for that matter).
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: His misogyny is just the tip of the iceberg.
* PsychoForHire: The first one to appear in the franchise, and the prototype for [[{{Expy}} all the ones that follow]]. If you're a fan of [[ZZGundam Rakan Dahkaran]], [[{{Gundam 00}} Ali Al-Saachez]] or [[GundamAge Decil Galette]], thank this guy.
* PutTheLaughterInSlaughter
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: The [[TheBrute Manly Man]] to Scirocco's [[EvilGenius Sensitive Guy]].
* ShoulderCannon: The Hambrabi has two.
* SlasherSmile: Just look at that grin!
* SmarterThanYouLook
* TheSociopath
* SociopathicSoldier: Type II. He joined the army so that he would have the chance to kill people without going to prison.
* TerribleTrio: He forms one with wingmates Dunkel Cooper and Ramsus Hasa.
* TransformingMecha: Pilots a Gaplant and then the Hambrabi.
* UnfriendlyFire: Is nearly shot down by the ''Alexandria'''s guns when Jamaican opens fire on Kamille during a battle between the two of them. [[spoiler:He later arranges for Jamaican to die in a very similar fashion.]]
* VillainousFriendship: Played with. Yazan is clearly incapable of empathy. Yet it's just as obvious that he at least enjoys the company of both Scirocco and like minded psychopaths Dunkel Cooper and Ramsus Hasa.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Whenver he's out of uniform.
* WouldHitAGirl[=/=]WouldHurtAChild: In Yazan's own words, the AEUG are made up of "women and children". He still thoroughly enjoys killing their members.
* WouldNotShootACivilian: Subverted. Yazan's refusal to participate in the colony gassing makes him look like an example of this, only for him to then reveal that his issue is actually the use of the gas--he doesn't find it fun unless you kill them yourself. He subsequently shows no compunctions about participating in the Grenada ColonyDrop which would have killed thousands, if not millions of noncombatants. [[EvenEvilHasStandards Standards]] he does not have.

----
* {{Antivillain}}
* BattleCouple: With Jerid. The two of them make a surprisingly effective combo, frequently tagteaming opponents in their Gabthley's.
* DarkActionGirl
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Is as displeased as Jerid is by the Titans' use of [=WMDs=], though as in his case, she simply follows orders rather than objecting.
* [[spoiler:TheGwenStacy: Like Lyla, she becomes one to Jerid]]
* JustFollowingOrders

!!! Voice Actors: Creator/SaekoShimazu (Japanese, TV), Creator/{{Yukana}} (Japanese, Movies), Carol-Anne Day(English)

->''Were you sent here to make my life a misery?''

One of the Cyber-Newtypes produced in the Titans' labs, Four Murasame is the original pilot of the Psyco Gundam. A war orphan who's bereft of her memories by the Titans' experiments, Four is willing to do anything to get them back. She and Kamille share a brief romance when they meet off-duty.
----
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: As an Cyber Newtype.
* BrokenBird
* CuteAndPsycho: Though she's not exactly to blame; it's a side-effect of having her psyche torn down and then rebuilt from the ground up with drugs and psycho-indoctrination on repeated occasions.
* DarkActionGirl
* EvilIsBigger: The MRX-009 Psyco Gundam. [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Or is it]] [[MeaningfulName "Psycho?"]]
* FourIsDeath: [[spoiler:[[KilledOffForReal Indeed...]]]]
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: [[spoiler:She starts turning around and is promptly killed by Jerid.]]
* IllGirl: As a side effect of the experiments and treatments she's been subjected to, Four sometimes suffers ''extremely'' serious migraines. When that happens, the poor girl ends up almost unvariably on the ground/floor, either whimpering or screaming in utter pain, and needs medicines to get rid of it.
* ItsAllAboutMe: She's perfectly willing to commit mass murder in the Psyco Gundam, burn down Hong Kong, and attempt to kill Kamille - the first person to treat her like a human being - as long as it gets her memories back for her. A lot of that can probably be attributed to psychological problems from being transformed into a Cyber-Newtype and using her powers, as she acts more reasonably in other circumstances.
* ItsAllJunk: Once she discovers Kamille's true identity.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: She's apparently a war orphan picked up by the Titans and trained as a Tykebomb. [[spoiler: Confirmed in a novel.]] The treatment removed her prior memories, and one of her goals is to get them back.
* LoveAtFirstSight: With Kamille.
* MysteriousPast: She isn't too happy about having one, and one of the biggest holds the Murasame Institute has over her is their promise to give her memories back. [[spoiler: Though [[ArtificialHuman she might not have a past at all]].]]
** [[AllThereInTheManual In one of the MSV collections]] it's implied that she ''might'' actually be [[spoiler: Miharu/Michelle Ratockie's little sister Milly from the original series. The novel ''Four's Story'' [[{{Jossed}} says otherwise]], and states that Four was an American girl orphaned in the ColonyDrop at the end of ''0083''. (In fact, Michelle and Milly's ''brother'' Gil makes an apparition there, and it seems that the real Milly ''was'' recruited as a test subject for the Artificial Newtype project like Four, but died in the process.)]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: The Psyco Gundam. Four herself could count if you're familiar with Japanese beliefs about [[FourIsDeath certain numbers]].
* NoblewomansLaugh: Frequently employs it.
* PsychicPowers: Courtesy of being a Cyber Newtype.
* SanitySlippage
* StateSec: The Newtype lab is allied with the Titans.
* StarCrossedLovers: With Kamille.
* SuperSoldier: She's an experiment in "remodelling" a human's brain to artificially induce Newtype abilities.
* TeensAreMonsters: Her entire persona is that of a particularly broken ''and'' psychotic teenager in the midst of a rebellion.
* TookALevelInBadass: Between appearances.
* {{Tykebomb}}: An artificially created or "Cyber" Newtype, which has left her mentally unstable and in possession of PsychicPowers.
* WeaponOfMassDestruction: The Psyco Gundam
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity: It's implied that psychotic instability is an inherent fault in the Cyber Newtype program. The stronger they are made to be, the more insane they end up.
* [[YouAreNumberSix You Are Number Four]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Green.

!Rosamia Badam
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/69947_5179.jpg]]
!!! Voice Actors: Kayoko Fujii (Japanese, TV), YuuAsakawa (English), Movies), Jennifer Bain (English)

-->''"Big brother, I found you."''

The first, and arguably craziest, Cyber-Newtype introduced in ''Zeta'', Rosamia is a psychological mess. Encountering Kamille during her time off, she latches onto him as a substitute for her deceased brother.
----
* AnimeAccentAbsence: She's a survivor of the ColonyDrop that wiped out Sydney, but has no trace of an Australian accent.
* AxeCrazy
* {{Badass}}: During her first two apperances she engages Kamille and Char at the same time with no backup and accquits herself very well. That alone qualifies her. She also shoots down Hizacks in a Nemmo while still believing herself to be "Rosammy" (who has no piloting training) and gives Kamille the scare of his life when she goes after him with the Psyco Gundam Mark II.
* TheBaroness: She comes off this way at first, but is actually an AxeCrazy CuteAndPsycho {{Tykebomb}}.
* CuteAndPsycho: As in the case of Four, it isn't her fault.
* DarkActionGirl
* DemotedToExtra: In the compilations. Partly because her character arc was mostly a retread of Four's, mostly because her original voice actress had been through a messy divorce with the director.
* DrugsAreBad
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: She's first seen as ruthless and cold, then has a huge VillainousBSOD and screams that the sky will fall on her...
* EvilIsBigger: The Psyco Gundam Mk. II.
* FunnySchizophrenia: Rosamia's insanity and childishness lead to at least as much silliness as drama.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia
* LightningBruiser: Both the Baund Doc and the Psyco Gundam II are extremely fast for their size.
* InnocentFanserviceGirl: She forgets to get dressed between completing her physical and hugging Kamille.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: The Psyco Gundam II.
* PsychicPowers: Another Cyber Newtype. She's powerful enough--and insane enough--to spook the Hell out of Kamille in their first encounter; he describes it as though his mind were being drawn into a great darkness. To put that in perspective, he says something very similar about Scirocco.
** PsychicLink: With Gates Capa.
* PsychopathicManchild: She believes that the AEUG plan to make the sky fall. She's an girl in her late teens with the fears of a little girl. On the other hand, she's explicitly stated as being among the few survivors of Zeon's ColonyDrop at the start of the One Year War; being traumatized and having a phobia of similar experiences is kind of understandable, and the Zeon's Cyber Newtype treatments likely made it all worse.
* ReplacementGoldfish: UpToEleven -if a character is of the right age, and is a powerful enough Newtype, she'll mistake them for her older brother. She does it to Kamille and has it used against her by Gates.
** Rosamia is in turn Kamille's ReplacementGoldfish for Four. In several instances he hallcuinates Four in Rosamia's place.
* SanitySlippage: She gets progressively more unstable in every appearance.
* SplitPersonality: Rosamia Badam is a hardcore soldier. Rosammy is a scared little girl looking for her brother.
* SuperSoldier
* TeensAreMonsters: She's 17.
* TransformingMecha: The Gaplant and Baund Doc.
* {{Tykebomb}}: Another Cyber Newtype, and even crazier than Four.
* WeaponOfMassDestruction: The Psyco Gundam II.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: "The sky! It's falling! NOOOOOOOO!"
** Doctors are almost as scary. As with the pathological fear of colony drops ''and'' what we know about the Artificial Newtypes, this almost certainly has a very unpleasant story behind it.
* WithGreatPowerComesGreatInsanity
* WomanChild: Rosammy is, as mentioned elsewhere, mentally five years old, and can be seen chasing Haro and squabbling over candy right alongside the kids. At one point, Kamille says that the kids are babysitting ''her''.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair

A young prodigy, Sarah is initially recruited as a Newtype cadet by the Titans, but soon throws her loyalty and support behind Scirocco.
----
* AntiVillain: Not really evil, just deluded and utterly devoted to Scirocco.
* BoringButPractical: Sarah's final mobile suit, the PMX-002 Bolinoak Samaan.
** Sarah herself, to a degree. Her PsychicPowers are not the strongest, but unlike most Newtypes, she's completely sane and functional in and out of battle.
* DarkActionGirl
* DarkChick: Sarah wants to be Scirocco's [[TheDragon Dragon]], but in practise she's this, both to him and the Titans as a whole.
* DatingCatwoman: She and Katz share a mutual attraction.
* EvilRedhead: Antagonistic redhead, anyway.
* GreenEyes
* GreenEyedMonster: She's clearly jealous of Scirocco's relationship with [[spoiler: Reccoa]] near the end of the series. This is exploited by the latter to get her to do increasingly risky things in order to prove her loyalty to him and ultimately [[spoiler: gets her killed.]]
* HairDecorations: Keeps her short ponytail in place with two cute green baubles, as seen in the picture.
* IgnoredEnamoredUnderling: Scirocco is aware of her affection, using it to keep her loyal.
* LoveMakesYouDumb ''and'' [[LoveMakesYouEvil Evil]]
* LoveMartyr: For Scirocco. She's not exactly ''evil'', but completely devoted to him.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: To say that she will do ''anything'' for Scirocco isn't much of an understatement.
* HeyItsThatVoice: Creator/YukoMizutani's ''debut''.
* PerkyFemaleMinion
* PrecociousCrush: On Scirocco. It's a very dark take on the trope, [[spoiler: and ultimately gets her killed]].
* SuperPrototype: After an initial appearance in the mook suit Marasai Scirocco assigns her his Messala and later upgrades her to the Bolinoak Samaan.
* TeenGenius: In theory anyway. She's a competent enough pilot while barely in her mid-to-late teens, but her behaviour otherwise leaves a lot to be desired.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Scirocco. [[spoiler: Literally. [[NotTooDeadToSaveTheDay Even after she dies]], her ghost returns to defend Scirocco, and only the intervention of Katz' own ghost takes her away from the battlefield.]]
* UnwittingPawn: Kamille tries to argue that she's this to Scirocco. She laughs at him. [[spoiler:Then she gets killed two episodes later.]]
* TheVamp: Not normally, but Katz is so smitten with her that he practically begs her to take advantage of him.
* WolverineClaws: The Bolinoak Samaan has one on its left arm.

** TheGoodCaptain: He's a bad person, but he sincerely seems to care [[AFatherToHisMen about his men and the mission.]]
* EliteMook
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: See VillainousValour below.
* JustFollowingOrders: Fully believes that a soldier's task is to follow any and all orders he receives, regardless of their morality.
* ManipulativeBastard: Perfectly willing to hold Four's desire for her memory over her head.
* MauveShirt
* SmugSnake: He's arrogant, overconfident, and more than willing to use Four's desire to get her memories back against her.
* VillainousValour: When Four goes AWOL, Wooder pilots the Psyco Gundam into combat himself, despite not being a Newtype and having no real idea of how to use it. * BlondGuysAreEvil

* BoringButPractical: He doesn't have nearly the power of Rosamia or Four, but he's also much less likely to descend into the mental breakdowns both ladies are famous for.
* DrugsAreBad
* EnigmaticMinion
* FlawedPrototype: His NRX-055-1 Baund Doc is the prototype that Rosamia and Jerid's models (the NRX-055) are based off of: it's notable for being the only one [[SuperPrototype with a two-seater cockpit]] and the only one that's never seen to transform into mobile suit mode.
* LightningBruiser: His Baund Doc

* [[spoiler:BigBadDuumvirate: She and Scirocco are shaping up to be one by the end.]]
* BrokenPedestal: Char was a ''massive'' one for her. The way she sees it, he ran away from his responsibilities on Axis to play pilot with the AEUG, leaving her, then a sixteen-year-old girl, to run a quasi-fascist dictatorship on her own. There are indications that she might not be completely wrong.
* CelebCrush: On Char Aznable, when she was a young girl.
* TheChessmaster: She's good enough to give Char, Jamitov, and even Scirocco cause for concern.
* CorruptionOfAMinor: Her control of Mineva hasn't had a good effect on the little girl. [[spoiler:Char calling her out for it leads her to [[GiveHerANormalLife attempt to reverse the damage]].]] This also forms her own backstory, along with a hefty helping of BreakTheCutie being forced to become an absolute dictator at sixteen will do that to a person.

* IdenticalStranger: It's never touched on but Haman looks like a purple haired version of Char's sister, Sayla. Which would make her romantic interest in him rather problematic.
* IfICantHaveYou: Towards Char. Interestingly, it's not just romantic she's painfully aware of how major a political player he could be if he applied himself.
* ImprobableAge: She's only twenty years old, according to Char, which is pretty young to be leading Axis. But it becomes clear very quickly that she's more than qualified for her position.
* JerkassHasAPoint: Even Char acknowledges that her anger at him for leaving her to run Axis when she was just a teenager isn't all that unreasonable, given how warped her personality became from the pressure.
* ItsPersonal: Her and Char. She also develops a major grudge towards Kamille by the end.
* KarmaHoudini: As of the end of ''Zeta''.
* LadyOfWar
* LightIsNotGood: The Qubeley boasts a mostly-white scheme. It's wielded by the person who [[spoiler:manages to become the biggest threat to the Federation and galactic peace at that point]].
* TheManBehindTheMan: Uses Mineva Zabi as a PuppetKing and figurehead while she runs the show. No one's really fooled, but that doesn't matter to Haman.
* ManipulativeBastard
* MisanthropeSupreme: Haman hates people in general, and plans to grind the human race under her jackboots as punishment for their perceived failings.
* MurderIsTheBestSolution: Her attitude towards Jamitov. In two out of three meetings she tries to kill him - the third time, [[spoiler:Scirocco does the job for her and lets her take the blame. Notably, she doesn't object to this.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: If you accept that her last name should be translated as Khan. She is also named after [[BiblicalBadGuy Haman from the Book of Esther]], who tried to talk a Persian king into massacring the Jews.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Gives Char the beating of his life during their climactic confrontation, wrecking the Hyaku-Shiki in minutes while taking no damage herself, and forcing Char to attempt a MutualKill.
* PlayingBothSides: Haman is actively courted by both the AEUG and the Titans. She could not care less about either of them, but actively plays them both to her own advantage.
* PuppetKing: She was chosen to replace her deceased father, Maharajah Khan, as governor of Axis at the age of sixteen in order to give the ambitious Zeon military command someone easy to control. [[GoneHorriblyWrong It... didn't work out so well.]]
* PsychicPowers: She's a Newtype, like most of the other major players in Zeta. Her abilities include:
** AstralProjection
** [[MySignificanceSenseIsTingling My Newtype Sense is Tingling]]
** PsychicLink
** {{Technopath}}: Only in her Qubeley, and with the aid of the Qubeley's psycommu system.
* RegentForLife: Whether or not Haman intends to give up her position as regent or not isn't explored (as Mineva is only seven) but she certainly gives off this vibe.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Is her last name Karn, Kahn, or Khan?
* SuperPrototype: Her Qubeley.
* {{Tsundere}}: Towards Char, bordering on {{Yandere}}. She has very good reasons for both admiring and disliking him.
* UnusualWeaponMounting: The Qubeley stores its funnels in a protruding abdomen, giving the mobile suit a decidedly insectoid appearance.
* UsedToBeASweetKid: If the Tomino-penned sidematerials are to be believed, she was once a cheerful, sweet-natured GenkiGirl with a starry-eyed crush on the Red Comet. [[BreakTheCutie Then her father died and Char left, so she got put in charge of Axis...]]
* VillainousCrush: Used to have one on Char, and despite his perceived betrayal, a bit of the spark's still there.
* WildCard: Which side Axis Zeon will join is a major plot point.
* WomanInBlack: Though curiously, her signature MS is white.
* WomanScorned: To Char, and ''how''.
* TheWomanWearingTheQueenlyMask: Forced to do so by becoming dictator of Axis at [[ImprobableAge the young age of sixteen]].
* {{Yandere}}: She really can't decide if she's still in love with Char, wants to kill him, or both.
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: Purple actually.

!Mineva Lao Zabi
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Mineva_Zabi_9351.jpg]]
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/MikiIto (JP)

->''I request that you assist us in reviving the Zabi family.''

Dozle Zabi's daughter, Mineva is the last living member of the Zabi family. While she appears to be the ruler of Zeon, it quickly becomes apparent that the seven year old girl is totally under the domination of her regent Haman. [[spoiler: She reappears in GundamUnicorn, as a teenager named Audrey Burne.]]
----
* AntiquatedLinguistics: Bordering on SpockSpeak at times. This is partly because she doesn't write her own speeches.
* AChildShallLeadThem: Subverted, she's just a figurehead.
* [[spoiler:BodyDouble]]: By the end of the Gryps Conflict [[spoiler:the real Mineva has been spirited away and replaced with a double, and the switch isn't discovered until the end of the 1st Neo Zeon War.]]
* CreepyChild - EnfanteTerrible: Played with. Mineva's a child, and she's the dictatorial head of TheRemnant of TheEmpire. Yet she's also a genuinely scared and lonely little girl who's totally dependent on Haman Khan and simply does not know how life is like outside of Zeon.
* EverythingsBetterWithPrincesses: No it isn't. In fact, being a the Zabi princess makes her life ''suck''.
* [[LastOfHisKind Last Of Her Kind]]: She's the last Zabi.
* PuppetKing: For Haman.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: As you can see in the accompanying illustration she seem to be... er, outgrowing that fancy Zeon outfit a bit fast for a seven year old.

!Kai Shiden
[[quoteright:225:http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/Kai_Shiden-Zeta_8165.jpg]]
!!!'''Voiced by:''' Creator/ToshioFurukawa (JP)

A veteran of the One Year War, Kai was one of the ''White Base'''s top pilots, alongside Amuro Ray and Sayla Mass. He returns in ''Zeta'' as a journalist/AEUG spy, operating in the rainforest.
----
* {{Badass}}
* BadassInANiceSuit: Kai is looking {{badass}} in that white suit.
* BigDamnHeroes: His first appearance has him saving Reccoa from some soldiers who had captured her.
* DeadpanSnarker: Not surprising. Made snarkier in the dub. He says pounding on his cell and calling for help makes him feel better.
* DemotedToExtra
* FaceOfAThug: It's better than it was when he was a kid, but at the end of the day, Kai still looks as though his paycheck is coming from a Mafia Don.
* HeroOfAnotherStory: He may have left his piloting days behind with White Base, but Kai's clearly seen his share of adventures and become more badass down the line.
* IntrepidReporter
* KnightInSourArmour
* ManInWhite
* OlderAndWiser
* SharpDressedMan
* TookALevelInBadass: Holy ''cow'' Kai does a complete 180 in time for ''ZetaGundam'' and the various sidestories going on at that point. Stylish, competent, able to engage in tactical espionage action ''in the RAINFOREST'' in a ''white'' business suit, all while juggling a career of journalism. To top it off, in sidestories he comes off as a freaking UC ''James Bond'' without his own mobile suit while he kicks copious amounts of ass.
* WhipItGood: In his first appearance, where he uses a whip on one of the men who was threatening Reccoa.
* YoureNotMyType: Reccoa is none too impressed by Kai's newly found suave. She also coldly calls him out for trying to be on a first name basis with her.

!Frau Kobayashi

* LoveTriangle: Married to Hayato and six months pregnant with his child, but she is only ever seen/portrayed with Amuro, and openly confesses to wanting more time with him; WordOfGod has Amuro inwardly pissed at MomentKiller Katz.

!Mirai Noa

* [[spoiler: HostageSituation: She ''and'' her children are kidnapped and put in a small boat near a battlefield, meaning that they can either potentially be killed by friendly/enemy fire or drown if their boat is sunk. They manage to survive (though little Hathaway falls into the sea and his mother has to give him CPR).]]
* HappilyMarried - LovedINotHonorMore: Despite Beltochika completely failing to understand this, and being physically separated from her spacebound spouse, Mirai shows a great deal of care for Bright, saying that she raises their two children taking his wishes and feelings into consideration as though he were there. In fact, Beltochika asks her how can that be possible, so Mirai calmly explains that she and her kids know well how hard Bright and Co. are fighting out there.
* YamatoNadeshiko: With ''heavy'' emphasis on the will of iron that goes along with "serenity, patience, grace, and acceptance" while her husband is away.
** SilkHidingSteel: The woman almost ''never'' loses her cool, whether it's towards [[InnocentlyInsensitive Beltochika]] saying too much, or towards [[spoiler:the HostageSituation she and her kids are forced in.]]

!Hathaway and Cheimin Noa

* ChildrenAreInnocent: Hathaway is around six years old and Cheimin is no older than five, and they're so very cute and unaware of what's going on.
* EveryGirlIsCuterWithHairDecs: Cheimin has a pink hairbow
** PinkMeansFeminine: And a pink dress, too.

!Wong Lee

* ArrogantKungFuGuy
* AssInAmbassador: He's a representative of Anaheim Electronics, which gives the AEUG considerable funding. This in turn gives Wong a lot of nominal authority, which he abuses pretty much all the time.
* BrutalHonesty: ''All the time''. Needless to say, it gets right under the ''Argama'' crew's skin.
* JerkAss: Though he had a pretty good reason to beat up Kamille he is pushy and and a jerk to a lot of people on the Argama.
** JerkAssHasAPoint: He's actually got the right idea (or, at least, a well-reasoned one that's worth considering) most of the time. It's pretty much the only reason nobody on the ''Argama'' ever tries to shove him out of an airlock.
* PetTheDog: Gave Shinta and Qum drinks and said children shouldn't be afraid to ask for things.
* ScrewTheRulesIMakeThem: Shoves his weight around the ''Argama'' by saying that the AEUG's allies, Anaheim Electronics, would support him on his attack plans. Even if they were dumb.
* SternTeacher: Shades of this before getting Flanderized into a total jerk ass later in the series.

!Stephanie Luio

* TheOjou
* PluckyGirl: She cannot fight, but she does her damnest to help out and get her work done.

!Sayla Mass

* TheCameo
