!Recurring Archetypes
Given that there are plenty of expies scattered throughout the franchise, it is only reasonable that we keep track of them. No matter how much the developers have played with these archetypes, their core elements can still be recognized.
* Warning: A knowledge of these archetypes may cause you to become GenreSavvy and see plot twists from miles away, but TVTropesWillRuinYourLife thatís what TV Tropes is about, anyway.

The guy who the series is named after. Mega Man is a blue boy (or girl) who fights for everlasting peace with his trademark ArmCannon and PowerCopying abilities. They are always playable, except when they are not. Notable Mega Man are Original Mega Man , X, Mega Man Volnutt, Mega Man EXE, Mega Man Model X, Geo Stelar.
* ArmCannon: Their WeaponOfChoice; although many of them acquire a sword at least once, the Mega Buster is still the most iconic.
* Badass/OneManArmy: They often defeat the Big Badís army themselves.
* BashBrothers: With Proto Man
* BlueBoyPinkGirl: Blue to Rollís pink/red.
* CombatAndSupport: Combat to Rollís support.
* For Great Justice/Wide Eyed Idealist: Their motivation.
* GoodColorsEvilColors: Their default colors are various shades of blue.
* GreenEyes: ALL of Ďem.
* TheHero: The guy you play as, with the above exception.
* OneBulletAtATime: Three in the Classic Timeline. Some upgrades increases them though.
* PowerCopying: All except Volnutt, who instead uses weapons developed by his Roll.

Proto Man are probably the closest thing this series get for a heroic CharClone. Proto Man serve as a BigBrotherMentor who watch Mega Manís back and have quite a BackStory. Out of the archetypes Proto Man are most likely playable behind Mega Man , either directly of via PowerCopying (heck, in one instance is the only playable character). Notable Proto Man are Original Proto Man, Zero, Barrett, Proto Man EXE, Zero EXE, Girouette/Giro, Ace.
* AloofAlly: Though how aloof they are varies. Girouette and Ace are quite friendly.
* AlwaysMale: There is no female Proto Man.
* Badass
* BashBrothers: With Mega Man.
* BigBrotherMentor: Proto Man played a stealth version to the original Mega Man, while Zero played a more direct version towards X.
* BigDamnHeroes: Their hobby, apparently.
* Bishounen
* Deuteragonist: Sometimes, if this role is not taken by Roll. The Zero series reverses the convention: the Red Guy, Zero, is the protagonist, while the Blue Guy, X, is the ally.
* Fighting Your Friend/Fighting The Lancer: Each Mega Man and Proto Man fight each other at least once, though the circumstances vary.
* : Either in backstory or in the game that introduces them. Giro averts this, but we donít know much about him anyway.
* : Half of them do this, some do it more than once!
* TheLancer: The ones most often fight alongside Mega Man.
* Laser Blade/Sword And Gun: Popularized by Zero. The original Proto Man uses a shield
* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: Averted, once Mega Man acquire all powerups, Proto Man are outclassed. Played straight in a way as they are popular with the fandom.
* Red Is Heroic/Bring My Red Jacket: They usually wear red armor. Ace wears a blue-and-white police uniform with a red pair of Visualizers.
* TheStoic: They are always calm before fire.

Each series has a girl who helps TheHero in his missions. These ladiesí importance to the story depends on each series; they can range from BigGood to glorified item shops. Roll are rarely playable except as secret characters or via PowerCopying. Notable Roll are Original Roll, Alia, Roll Casket, Roll EXE, Ciel, Prairie, Harp Note, Kalinka.
* AlwaysFemale
* BlueBoyPinkGirl: Pink/Red girl to Mega Manís blue boy. Ciel averts this, as she is pink girl to Zeroís red boy. Kalinka is blue girl to OVER-1ís white boy, though it might not be canon.
* The Chick/The Heart: They may not fight as well as Mega Man, but Mega Man can always rely on them for tactical and emotional support.
* CombatAndSupport: Support to Mega Manís combat. The Roll have provided Mega Man with items, upgraded them, guided them, healed them, and dealt out StandardStatusEffects.
* Deuteragonist: Sometimes, if Proto Man hasnít stolen the spot.
* DistaffCounterpart: To Mega Man, if they appear as Secret Characters.
* Green Eyes/Innocent Blue Eyes: Their large, pearly eyes are one of their most notable features.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: Their other notable feature.
* MissionControl: In the Classic timeline; sometimes border on StopHelpingMe.
* NiceGirl: They are kind, caring, and considerate to othersí well-being.
* PinkMeansFeminine: A good half of them.
* Unresolved SexualTension/Ship Tease: They are implied to have hots for Mega Man, or Proto Man in Cielís and Prairieís cases.

Oftentimes the Big Bads do not operate alone, they need some underlings to do the heavy works. This is where Bass (itís pronounced BASE) come in. Bass are essentially TheRival and EvilCounterpart of Mega Man. Bass are more likely to be playable and Roll, either directly playable or via PowerCopying. Notable Bass are Original Bass, Vile, Dynamo, Bass EXE, Pandora and Prometheus, Rogue, Jack Corvus and Queen Virgo.
* AxCrazy: Not the most stable guys around. Pandora and Queen Virgo are more subtle about it, but still pretty insane.
* Badass:Give the heroes no end of trouble, especially in cutscenes.
* DragonWithAnAgenda: They only work for BigBad because their goals demand it. More often than not the hate the BigBad as much as they hate the heroes.
* EnemyMine: Are not above joining force with Mega Man. Just donít mistake this with HeelFaceTurn.
* Jerkass/Jerk With A Heart Of Gold
* RecurringBoss: Battle the heroes at least twice.
* WildCard
