[[caption-width-right:350:Left to right: [[ManChild Mac]], [[AttentionWhore Dee]], [[WildCard Charlie]], [[TheHedonist Frank]] & [[{{Narcissist}} Dennis]]]]
* {{The Alcoholic}}s: All of them (except for Frank) come to the realization that they're alcoholics after experiencing terrible withdrawals. Frank becomes more of an alcoholic in "[[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin The Gang Gives Frank an Intervention]]." Although the reasons the gang gives him an intervention aren't necessarily normal.
* AlcoholInducedIdiocy: The entire gang has this in spades as a direct result of their addiction, but Dee is probably the worst offender.
* ALighterShadeOfBlack: Corrupt as they are, they can't even compare to the [=McPoyles=] in terms of depravity. Somehow they still manage to be much greater threats to society.
* AntiHero: At their absolute best, they manage to be these.
* AttentionDeficitOohShiny: They always come up with one hair-brained scheme and quickly forget it for another scheme frequently at a drop of a hat.
* BadBadActing: Technically applies to the whole Gang at certain times, but Sweet Dee is arguably the in-universe champion of this one. Kaitlin Olson's ability to portray a bad aspiring actress and stand-up comic is nothing short of genius.
* ButForMeItWasTuesday: Ties in with WrongGenreSavvy below. Their belief in NegativeContinuity and that their actions don't have lasting consequences leads to them forgetting and/or generally being indifferent to the lives they've ruined and the spirits they've crushed, and when they bother acknowledging them their responses usually amount to "get over it.".
* CantGetAwayWithNuthin: the Gang nearly always fail at their schemes, and none of their dreams and ambitions ever come true.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: the members of the Gang never hesitate to betray one another if there's something to be gained in return.
* ComedicSociopathy: The show as a whole.
* ComicTrio: Dennis is often the clueless leader (occasionally an ignored voice of reason). Mac is often either the dumb follower or ignored voice of reason (occasionally a clueless leader). Charlie often plays the dumb follower (but occasionally an ignored voice of reason).
* TheCorrupter: Just being around them causes SanitySlippage. Rickety Cricket and Maureen Ponderosa were both perfectly nice people before getting tangled up with them, and they're now a horribly mutilated CrazyHomelessPerson and a ''[[PettingZooPeople literal]]'' CrazyCatLady respectively.
* DumbIsGood: The borderline illiterate Charlie is the closest thing the group has to a decent person. In contrast, Dennis, the only member of the group who has had a higher education, is easily the worst of the bunch.
** While it's played straight within the gang, the gang as a whole averts this trope because they are in general [[StupidEvil both immoral jerks and idiots]].
* DysfunctionJunction: Between the lot of them, the members of the gang have a variety of health problems (notably, everyone is an alcoholic), mental health problems (Dee and Frank have both been instutionalized, Dennis has borderline personality disorder, and Charlie has...[[AmbiguousDisorder whatever it is he has]]), trouble coming out (Mac), daddy issues, anger management issues, toxic codependence on each other, and a general inability to sustain meaningful relationships outside of the group.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: The Gang are a bunch of crass, scheming, petty, vain, self-centered assholes who will screw over anyone at a moment's notice, but whenever a clearly immoral issue like racism pops up, they will immediately distance themselves from it, talk at length about how wrong it is, and attempt (in their limited understanding of the world) to dissect the problem like mature, rational people. Of course, they ''are'' all racists, but it's more of an unconscious ignorant prejudice than genuine malice.
* EveryoneIsRelated: Frank is the legal father of Dee and Dennis and is very likely the biological father of Charlie. Mac, the odd one out in this respect, was apparently adopted by Frank in season 10, though whether this was a one off joke or actually canon has yet to be confirmed.
* FiveManBand: Lampshaded. Throughout "The Gang Solves the Gas Crisis", they argue over their roles in the group. Using their terminology, they end up agreeing on this:
** [[TheHero The]] [[TheLeader Looks]]: Dennis
** [[TheLancer Wild Card]]: Charlie
** [[TheSmartGuy The Brains]]: Mac
** [[TheBigGuy The Muscle]]: Frank
** [[TheChick The Useless Chick]]: Dee
* {{Flanderization}}: [[PlayingWithTropes Played with]]. Every member of the gang gets more extreme in their characterizations as time passes, but it's {{justified}} by their deteriorating mental health, decreasing ability to maintain relationships outside the gang, ungraceful aging, and overall spiral deeper and deeper into delusion and toxic codependency. It's also {{lampshaded}} heavily in season 10's episode "The Gang Misses the Boat", where they all become conscious of their traits that have become most heavily flanderized.
-->'''Dennis:''' By the way, all of us have become ''so goddamn weird.''
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Charlie is sanguine, Dennis is choleric, Mac is melancholic, Frank is choleric/sanguine, and Dee is phlegmatic.
* FreudianExcuse: As detailed below, all of them have one.
* FreudianTrio: Charlie is TheId, Mac is TheEgo, and Dennis is TheSuperego.
* TheFriendsWhoNeverHang: Generally averted as every potential duo in the Gang gets a few episodes together, but Dennis and Charlie rarely have storylines together without Mac or Frank acting as an intermediary between the two, and Mac and Dee, who hate each other vehemently, only have a handful of episodes centering around just the two of them.
* {{Heroic Comedic Sociopath}}s: On a good day. And the "heroic" part is usually accidental.
* HiddenDepths: A minor one, but singing appears to be the one thing all of them are actually any good at, which they each show off pretty frequently.
** "The Gang Hits The Slopes" reveals that Dennis, Mac and Dee are all world class skiers.
* {{Hustler}}s: While their main line of work is (ostensibly) running the bar, more often than not they abandon their duties in favor of some ShortCon or other. On very rare occasions, their schemes actually prove to be successful.
* {{Hypocrite}}: All of them are quite adept at pointing out the others' flaws, while completely ignoring their own glaring problems.
* {{Jerkass}}es: They're spiteful schemers.
* JerkWithAHeartOfJerk: Whenever they do anything remotely heroic it's for selfish reasons.
* LargeHam: All of them are prone to ranting while shouting at the top of their lungs. Dennis is easily the best at ranting while Charlie is the best at shouting.
* LoserProtagonist: No matter what Dennis says, all of the Gang live in squalor and find no success in life.
* LowerClassLout: All of them are poor, unintelligent white trash who regularly engage in petty theft and violence. Dennis and Dee like to think of themselves as above this, but neither of them are.
* ManChild: Aside from Frank, the Gang haven't matured past their teen years (at most). While sometimes it ''does'' seem like there's an endearing aspect to this (usually in the case of Charlie's good-natured love for some things) it's shown as a horrible thing all around; the gang are demanding, uppity monsters with no self-control who can barely take care of themselves.
* NoSocialSkills: Only Dennis has anything even close to normal social skills, and that's only in comparison to the others.
* PetTheDog: The five of them are highly unpleasant people and the friendships within the group are strenuous, but all members of the gang (even TokenEvilTeammate Dennis) are capable of demonstrating genuine kindness and concern towards each other on (very rare) specific occasions.
* {{Schemer}}s: While Frank and Dennis are the standout examples, all members of the Gang are prone to hatching (ill-fated) plots in virtually any given episode.
* SmallNameBigEgo: All of them fit this description, though Dennis really stands out.
* SmartBall[=/=]SanityBall: Any character within the gang can play the role of the OnlySaneMan for a scene or two. From most common to least, the people likely to get the Smart Ball are Dennis, Dee, Mac, Frank, and then Charlie though this could be changed at a moment's notice.
* StaticCharacter: [[DeconstructedTrope Deconstructed]]. Their refusal to grow up or even remotely change as people becomes more pronounced over time as their actions continue to ruin the lives of those around them with the gang being seemingly oblivious to it. Later seasons heavily imply that they all subconsciously recognize that ''something'' is wrong with them, but choose to keep it out of their minds.
* ThreePlusTwo: Dennis makes it clear in one episode that "The Gang" is just him, Mac and Charlie. Frank quickly blackmails his way in and is the only member of the group who considers Dee, who the others choose to mock and ignore, part of the group.
* TrueCompanions: Dysfunctional ones but a fellowship nonetheless. The bizarre co-dependence on each other the group has cultivated over time only becomes more pronounced as time goes on.
* ThemeTwinNaming: Dennis and Deandra Reynolds.
* UltimateJobSecurity: Actually justified in universe. Frank is actually incredibly wealthy and can keep the bar afloat no matter how little actual business they do, and Charlie always manages to miraculously prepare the bar before health inspections to ensure that it gets a decent grade.
* {{Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist}}s: Their rude, immoral behavior and misfortunes are PlayedForLaughs. The most sympathetic being Charlie and the least sympathetic being Dennis.
* {{Villain Protagonist}}s: Don't hang out with these guys, or they'll crush your spirits and make you as vile as them.
* VitriolicBestBuds: At best.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: They constantly sabotage each other with dangerous stunts and yet they're still close enough to sing a cappella every once in a while.
* WrongGenreSavvy: All of them seem to believe that, should they desire it to, the universe will bend itself to follow the structure of whatever movie or TV series they currently wish to emulate.

->'''Played By:''' Creator/GlennHowerton

-->''"My nose was chiseled by the gods themselves, Frank. My body was sculpted to the proportions of Michelangelo's David."''

One of the co-owners of Paddy's Pub and Dee's twin brother. The most sociopathic of the characters, Dennis is abrasive, narcissistic, selfish, histrionic and vain. Much of his inflated ego is perpetuated by his Ivy League education at the University of Pennsylvania where he minored in Psychology.
* AGodAmI: For some reason, realizing that he controls his own life in "Charlie Rules the World" leads to this mindset.
** Later episodes show that he's believed himself to be a "Golden God" since ''high school'' and will take any excuse he can get to confirm it.
* AlliterativeName: Uses the pseudonym "Hugh Honey" in "The Gang Exploits the Mortgage Crisis".
* AmbiguouslyBi: Although Dennis is a serial womanizer, he also delves pretty heavily into this area as well:
** In the first episode of the entire series, he has a threesome with two men while blackout drunk.
** In "Frank's Back In Business", he's willing to have sex with the Asian boy he mistakes for a prostitute (albeit more because he was trying to see how far he could go using another person's identity). [[spoiler:Turns out the boy's a caddy, and Dennis backtracks.]]
** He thinks he knows absolutely everything there is to know about gay sex, as seen in "The Gang Sells Out." And he considers himself to be a power-bottom.
** In "The Gang Reignites the Rivalry", he tells Frank that back in college, he would stick the tip of his penis in his frat brothers' mouths and stick bananas up their asses. He also puts his balls in Mac's mouth in "Mac and Dennis: Manhunters."
** He always wanted to be a male model, and whenever this ambition of his resurfaces, campiness ensues:
*** In "The Aluminum Monster vs. Fatty Magoo" Dennis dresses up in a tight silver dress to "properly model it", using basketballs as "breasts" and wearing bright red lipstick. He does this while listening to Rick Astley. He considers this the highest point in his life. Or, as he calls it, his "peak."
*** In "America's Next Top Paddy's Billboard Model Contest" he competes to be the male model on the [[spoiler:non-existent]] Paddy's billboard. His outfits get gayer and gayer each scene -- going from a polo to a tight grey v-neck with a black cropped vest.
*** In "Paddy's Pub: Home of the Original Kitten Mittens", Dennis models a pair of thong underwear he plans to sell at Paddy's, saying, "I'm not wearin' these because I'm comfortable, I'm wearin' 'em because I wanna ''turn you on!''" to Mac.
** In general, the friendship between Dennis and Mac is rife with homoerotic undertones; of special note are episodes like "Mac and Dennis Break Up" (the creators' commentary suggests that the two are in the closet) and "The Gang Dines Out", in which Dennis and Mac's monthly dinner is largely treated as date, culminating in Dennis giving a heartfelt speech and singing "You're the Wind Beneath My Wings" to Mac in front of the entire restaurant.
*** In one episode, Mac makes a plan to "plow some ass." Dennis' reaction is to smile and nod his head, seemingly totally on-board with the plan. When Mac clarifies "not gay sex" Dennis looks upset, and says he thought that's what Mac meant.
*** When Dennis and Mac become manhunters, Dennis is just as on-board as Mac is with all of the homoerotic pranking. Lampshaded by Frank when he walks in on [[ItMakesJustAsMuchSenseInContext Mac rubbing Dennis' nipples]].
* AttentionWhore: He's very vain, and only feels validated when he's ther center of everybody's attention.
-->'''Dee''': You don't care about the money, you just like the attention.
* BadassBoast: Dennis is incredibly skilled at giving these.
--> (After getting accused of peaking in High School by Dee)
--> '''Dennis:''' "Peaked? Peaked, Dee? Let me tell you something: I haven't even ''begun'' to peak. And when I do peak, you'll know. Because I'm gonna peak so hard that everybody in Philadelphia's gonna feel it."
* BerserkButton: Claiming that he peaked in High School, questioning his success with women or suggesting that he isn't the social God he believes himself to be is not a good idea.
* BerserkerTears: He has a tendency towards crying and shouting when undergoing a VillainousBreakdown (see "High School Reunion" for a particularly vivid example).
* BreakTheHaughty: By Season 10, Dennis's mental health has deteriorated to the point where he has lost his position as the ''de facto'' leader of the Gang, repeatedly strikes out in social situations, suffers from severe anxiety and sensory overload, and is overall a pathetic mess.
* CantTakeCriticism: To the point the buzzer in "The Gang Goes on Family Fight" gave him an ''absolute'' breakdown.
* CampStraight / TheDandy: Dennis is obsessed with his own body and wears make-up.
-->'''Charlie:''' Are you wearing makeup?
-->'''Dennis:''' I'm always wearing a little bit of foundation, but that's not the point.
* CasanovaWannabe: Dennis does well with women, but he isn't the magnetic charmer that he considers himself to be. Later seasons reveal him to be an emotionally manipulative serial rapist targeting women too dim, vulnerable or trusting to know better.
* {{Catchphrase}}: [[BlatantLies "I don't give a shit"]], said whenever the Gang reels him in yet another ZanyScheme.
* TheCharmer: Considers himself this and, to his credit, he seems to be pretty good at making a good first impression on people.
* CleopatraNose: Frank refers to it as an "anteater nose".
* ControlFreak: To the point of ordering dishes for the other members of the gang at restaurants. A therapist becomes rather interested when he reveals that he's been keeping psychological dossiers of the gang, having started Dee's 'file' when they were children.
* DeadpanSnarker: Tends to snark on the others' idiocy with callous indifference.
* {{Deconstruction}}: Of the OnlySaneMan, namely [[ManipulativeBastard what]] [[TheSociopath kind]] [[LackOfEmpathy of]] [[{{Narcissist}} person]] they have to be to hang out with a group of assholes.
* DepravedBisexual: While his sexuality is [[AmbiguouslyBi ambiguous in-Universe]], Dennis has committed nonconsensual sexual acts against both men and women and is easily the cruelest member of the gang.
* DirtyCoward: When getting mugged, he, like most of the gang, ran away and pushed Dee closer to the mugger.
* DoubleStandardRapeFemaleOnMale: He firmly believes that women can't rape men because AManIsAlwaysEager. [[spoiler: He was raped at fourteen by the school librarian, though he refuses to call it rape because he "wanted it".]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: For all of his horrible treatment of Dee, he appears to hold some amount genuine brotherly affection for her that only comes up in the worst of times. In "The Gang Broke Dee", he is the only member of the Gang who seems legitimately worried about Dee's now suicidal depression and, in his own twisted way, attempts to cheer her up. His fantasy in "The Gang Saves The Day" is also notably the only one besides Dee's herself that doesn't have her abruptly dying at the beginning of it.
* EvenTheGuysWantHim: When Paddy's briefly became a gay bar. It's also implied that Mac has feelings for him.
* TheFace: He's the only member of the group who can function in certain social situations.
* FauxAffablyEvil: Dennis is quite capable of appearing charming and even likable, but there's a definite sense of cruelty to his actions.
* {{Fetish}}:
** Anonymous sex, particularly glory holes. Major plot point of "Mac & Charlie Die Part 2."
** Controlling someone else's life. Before it he was just creepily controlling over minor things like meal decisions, but season 8's "Frank's Back in Business" confirms that it's a sexual thing when Dennis attempts to "get off" by impersonating a dead businessman.
** The season 7 finale reveals he also has a thing for bondage, which actually ties in quite nicely with the control-freak tendencies mentioned above (though it's also implied the reason he uses duct-tape and rope for sex is that he's dealing with women who are... less than eager).
* FreudianExcuse: His amoral father Frank. His mother also heavily favored him to Dee, constantly feeding his ego to the point that by ''high school'' he referred to himself as a "golden god."
** It is also revealed that he lost his virginity to his high school librarian several years before he was the age of consent, which might somewhat explains his misogyny and unhealthy sexual behavior.
* FutureLoser: Frequently states that he was the BigManOnCampus while in High School (Dee spitefully notes that this was also the time when he peaked). [[spoiler:The Season 7 finale reveals that this was all a lie; Dennis was no more popular than Mac and Charlie. He's just deluded.]]
* GoingColdTurkey: Dennis and Dee get addicted to crack in a season 1 episode, and then go cold turkey to get back to normal. Seasons later Dennis still occasionally gets the urge to smoke crack (which he suppresses).
-->'''Mac''': What do you want more than anything else in the entire world?
-->'''Dennis''': Crack.
-->'''Mac''': Oh. I thought you were going to say pizza.
* HairTriggerTemper: While he starts the series as a fairly cool-headed person, in later seasons even the slightest provocation sets him off. See SanitySlippage, below.
* HandsomeLech: Although Dennis isn't nearly as much of a Casanova as he thinks, he is still a serial womanizer. And he gets plenty of women and gay men interested in him. Just not as much as he thinks. In fact, some women are turned off his behavior, either thinking he's a {{jerk|ass}} or CampGay.
* HeroicComedicSociopath: He has his moments, though the "heroic" part is usually accidental.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Mac. The two live together, work together, spend all their free time together, and check in with each other several times a day to make sure the other is okay. The commentary for "Mac and Dennis Break Up" has the staff (possibly jokingly) talk about the fact that Mac and Dennis are possibly gay and in a pre-sexual romantic relationship that neither is completely conscious of.
* HotGuysAreBastards: InUniverse, he's thought to be the most attractive member of the gang. He's also the most cruel, and uses his good looks to prey on women.
* IncestSubtext: Has a weird habit of calling his sister "baby", "babe" and "babygirl." They also slow-dance in "The Gang Dances Their Asses Off". Though he also is the loudest of all the gang when it comes to insulting Dee and pointing out every physical flaw, and in the episode where it was implied Dennis might have unknowingly slept with her, he literally would not stop vomiting. When Dee's about to leave, Dennis decides to go beyond subtext and gives her a [[spoiler:speech about how he's perfect for her and loves her]]. It's possible he was just trying to manipulate her into taking him with her to Hollywood, but his reaction at the end of the episode implies ''some'' part of it was genuine.
* InferioritySuperiorityComplex: Dennis' extreme vanity and sense of self-importance are shown to belie feelings of insecurity and self-loathing, and the smallest critiques tend to disproportionately distress him (e.g. Dee saying he has a "fat face" leads to Dennis not eating for three days). This is further illustrated in "The Gang Goes on Family Fight", where he is rendered near catatonic whenever he hears the wrong answer buzzer.
* InformedAttractiveness: InUniverse. While Dennis ''is'' actually attractive, he's nowhere near the Adonis that he claims to be. Even Mac, who's shown to be a little attracted to Dennis himself, is aware that the latter isn't as hot as he thinks, instead preferring Rex.
* InstantExpert: Thinks of himself as this, but the reality is otherwise.
* ItsAllAboutMe: He couldn't care less about his friends most of the time.
* IvyLeagueForEveryone: He went to University of Pennsylvania and, unlike his sister, he graduated.
* KarmaHoudini: The most likely member of the Gang to occasionally escape punishment.
* LackOfEmpathy: He seems perfectly okay with horrible things happening to regular people. See TheSociopath entry for more details.
* TheLeader: While the Gang are perpetually betraying each other and constantly attempting to claim the role of leader, Dennis, due to his status as a ManipulativeBastard ControlFreak, tends to assume this position most frequently.
* {{Lolicon}}: He has an obsession with younger girls: e.g. he only dated freshmen in High School, and in his mid-thirties still likes to go for 18-year-olds. Charlie points out that's kind of weird.
* ManipulativeBastard: The D.E.N.N.I.S. system is a masterclass in heartlessly manipulating a woman into having sex with you, stringing her along in a semi-relationship and then dumping her for the thrill of having her fall in love with you. (The acronym stands for [[spoiler: Demonstrate value, Engage physically, Nurture dependence, Neglect emotionally, Inspire hope, Separate entirely]]).
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: With his sister Dee. Dennis is a NonActionGuy, the more polite and cultured of the two, and CampStraight. Also, unlike his more overtly aggressive sister, he normally demonstrates cruelty through snide putdowns and manipulation.
* MistakenForGay: His AmbiguouslyBi, CampStraight tendencies make him a frequent recipient of this attitude:
** In "The Gang Gets Racist" Terrell, Dee's friend from acting class, is quite ''interested'' in Dennis. When they turn the pub into a gay bar, the vain and greedy Dennis is perfectly comfortable with letting all the guys flirt with him as long as he's making cash and feeling good about himself.
** In "Charlie Wants an Abortion", a woman at the free clinic assumes Dennis is gay and waiting for his HIV results.
** In "The Gang Cracks the Liberty Bell", his 1776 counterpart gets called a "sodomite".
** In "High School Reunion", a married woman who he's hitting on is confused when he says that he wants to show her what a boring piece of shit her husband is by doing sexual things to her: she thought he's gay because he gossiped about her husband and wore makeup and a girdle.
* MistakenForMurderer: In "Mac is a Serial Killer" Dee and Dennis pretend to be serial killers and stalk The Waitress. They get really into it.
* MrFanservice: Certainly ''considers'' himself to be this, and while Glenn Howerton ''is'' quite attractive, Dennis' obsession with remaining slim and trim to the point of anorexia is frequently played for {{Squick}}.
* {{Narcissist}} : For a perfect example, in "Charlie Rules The World" he blows himself in a state of realization that he is God of his own universe.
* NeatFreak: Keeps everything he owns in pristine condition, and freaks out when this gets threatened.
* NonActionGuy: While none of the Gang are particularly good fighters, Dennis is not only shown to be useless in a fight but in terrible shape, to the point of getting winded after playing a few seconds of tennis.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Dennis, apparently the most normal of the Gang, is slowly revealed to be the most sociopathic of all of them.
* OfCorsetsFunny: Dennis is so obsessed with primping that he wears a girdle when he wants to look his best.
* OnlySaneMan: Tends to play this more frequently than the rest of the group, however, this is horribly subverted just as frequently as Dennis' NotSoAboveItAll moments almost always verge into TheSociopath territory.
* ThePornomancer: Although Dennis doesn't necessarily live up to his ego, a lot of people have shown attraction to him. He has drawers full of sex tapes he's made of him and his partners.
* PsychopathicManchild: While Mac and Charlie are more openly immature and childish, Dennis' immaturity takes form in the spiteful way he reacts when not given his way, his lack of responsibility and self-awareness and his inability to see the considerable psychological damage he inflicts on everyone around him as anything more than a game.
* RapeAsBackstory: [[spoiler:Season 11 reveals that he was the victim of statutory rape at the age of 14, when he lost his virginity to a librarian nearly 40 years his senior]].
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue Oni to Mac's Red.
* SanitySlippage: While Dennis starts out as the OnlySaneMan of the group, he is slowly revealed to hide anxiety, feelings of emptiness, and sociopathic tendencies beneath his MaskOfSanity. As he grows older, he finds it harder and harder to keep these issues under wraps, and he is eventually diagnozed with borderline personality disorder and prescribed medication.
* SelfServingMemory: Numerous times, most notably how he truly believes he was a "Golden God" in high school when in truth, he was just a loser to everyone when they rarely gave him any thought at all.
* {{Schemer}}: The D.E.N.N.I.S. system for seducing women. [[spoiler: Demonstrate value, Engage physically, Nurture dependence, Neglect emotionally, Inspire hope, Separate entirely.]]
* ShirtlessScene: In nearly every episode of Season 3, Dennis "pops his shirt off."
* ShowSomeLeg: Much like his sister, Dennis often volunteers to seduce (or is tasked with seducing) somebody in order to further the gang's plans.
* SissyVillain: A rare VillainProtagonist version.
* SlowlySlippingIntoEvil: While he's not a nice person to start with, over the seasons Dennis slowly becomes more unhinged and sociopathic. (See SanitySlippage, above).
* SmallNameBigEgo: So much that this could probably be renamed ''The Dennis''. He has amounted to absolutely nothing in his life beyond having rich parents, yet has been referring to himself as a [[AGodAmI "Golden God"]] since ''high school!''
* SmugSnake: Nowhere near as smart or charming as he clearly thinks he is.
* TheSociopath: Frequently implied throughout the first nine seasons (as evidenced by the examples below) but eventually [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] in "Psycho Pete Returns" when he's officially diagnosed with [[http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/borderline-personality-disorder/index.shtml borderline personality disorder]], not sociopathy/antisocial personality disorder.
--->'''Dennis:''' I am having--this is crazy--but I'm having feelings again, like some kind of 14 year-old kid or something. I mean, you remember feelings, right?\\
'''Mac:''' Yeah. I have feelings every single day of my life.\\
'''Dennis:''' Do you?\\
'''Mac:''' Are you saying you don't have ''feelings?''
** It gets ''really'' creepy in "The Gang Buys a Boat", where Dennis tells Mac the reason they bought the boat would be so he could bring women on it and have guaranteed sex with them. By his logic, a woman would never say no to sex on a boat because of "the [[ImpliedDeathThreat implication]]."
** His whole subplot in "Charlie's Mom has Cancer" revolves around how he's stopped feeling emotions; lack of emotion is one of the biggest (if not ''the'' biggest) signs of a sociopath.
** When he reveals that he has an entire system for emotionally manipulating and abusing women, Dee straight up calls him one, with good reason. Other gags in various episodes imply he's perfectly comfortable with outright raping women, to the point of having a special hidden compartment in his car for duct tape and ropes.
** In "Psycho Pete Returns", he and Dee try to con a psychiatrist into giving them a drug prescription by pretending Dee is crazy. Dennis gets so frustrated with her crappy acting that he yells at her to shut up and says she'd be more useful if he skinned her and turned her into a lampshade or a piece of luggage and added her to his "collection", calling into question whether the rest was actually a hypothetical. At that, the psychiatrist willingly gives Dennis the drugs (and diagnoses him with borderline personality disorder).
* SpoiledBrat: Probably the worst possible example of what can happen to one. Not only is he incredibly vain and incapable of doing anything for himself, but he also has a god complex the size of the moon, is totally amoral, and is heavily implied to be a serial rapist with sociopathic tendencies.
* StepfordSmiler: his affable, attractive exterior masks mental illness and feelings of emptiness.
-->'''Dennis''': I need something. I mean, I got this, uh, this giant, gaping hole inside me. And Iím... Iím always trying to fill it with something. I like to call it my, uh... my ďGod Hole.” And I think a lot of people in this world, they fill it with religion. But I donít believe in God.
* TenorBoy: Plays one of these during the production of "The Nightman Cometh" and in general isn't afraid of showing off his ''incredible'' falsetto.
* TheyLookJustLikeEveryoneElse: A comedic example. Dennis appears to be the most well-adjusted, handsome, and friendly member of the gang at first glance. Under the surface he's a sociopath whose favorite activities involve manipulating women into sex and exercising total control over his friend's lives.
* TinMan: Dennis considers himself to be "the only rational and emotionless" person among his friends and claims he's incapable of feeling anything (see TheSociopath, above), but he's actually the member of the Gang most governed by emotions (albeit negative ones) and the one most likely to break into tears, rage or manic laughter at the slighest provocation.
* TokenEvilTeammate: While the whole group is made up of horrible people, Dennis is the only one who is shown to be undeniably evil.
* VillainousBreakdown:
** When he's rejected by the wife of the man who had sex with his prom date at his high school reunion, he rushes out to his car and fetches items including ropes and duct tape. When questioned, he begins screaming that he needs his "tools" and that he needs to "bind and be bound."
** When he's rejected by his old fraternity, he becomes increasingly unhinged, screaming in harsh falsetto that they're all "idiots!" and he's "a goddamn legend!"
* WeightWoe: he has a very unhealthy relationship with food and with his body, and on occasion starves himself to boost his attractiveness.
-->'''Dennis''': I am going to be 20 forever, Mac, because the older I become, the more vigilant I am. I don't eat lunch anymore, for instance. And on odd days, I don't eat breakfast.

->'''Played By:''' Creator/KaitlinOlson

-->''"See this is the part where I would volunteer to be the girl on the billboard and you guys would find some reason not to and compare me to some sort of animal like a giant bird."''

Dennis' twin sister, the main bartender at Paddy's Pub and the show's main female character. Sweet Dee dreams of becoming an actress although she lacks any apparent talent and occasionally suffers from debilitating stage fright. She wore a back brace in high school, leaving her with the nickname "the Aluminum Monster". She majored in Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania but failed her classes. Dee lives in an apartment alone, although she had a cat at one point until it became trapped in her wall.
* AbusiveParents: Her legal father is Frank (enough said), and her mother thought she was completely worthless, going as far as to call her "a mistake" in her will in spite of the fact that Dee's a twin.
* ActionGirl: Well... comparatively, at least. Her male companions are all out of shape [[DirtyCoward Dirty Cowards]] while she is shown to be fairly athletic and much more physically capable than they are.
* AllOfTheOtherReindeer: Dee was mocked in school for her back-brace, and known under the EmbarrassingNickname of "Aluminum Monster".
* AnimalMotifs: is often compared to a giant bird.
* AttentionWhore: Dee desperately craves approval, affection and attention. She has trouble gaining approval and affection, so she's happy enough to settle for (usually negative) attention.
* BackFromTheDead: After Mac, Charlie and Dee fake their own deaths, they hide in the office of Paddy's. When Frank and Dennis come in, they run out -- carrying sparklers -- and Sweet Dee yells "Surprise, bitches! We're alive and it's blowing your MINDS right now!"
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished: Averted. Dee tends to get made to look hideous and disheveled much more than any other member of the gang.
* BlondesAreEvil: Sometimes, though it's more {{Jerkass}} than evil.
* ButtMonkey: Watch any episode of this show. Any episode. If not her, then Charlie. Usually both of them.
* CannotTellAJoke: The attempts Dee to get her standup career off the ground inevitably fall into this. Most of the time, she starts retching out of stage fright halfway through her first joke. When she can get one in, it's inevitably rambling observational humor or references to her vagina, delivered either in a halfhearted drawl or while stammering profusely. Yet somehow, it's still better than her non-standup [[{{Blackface}} "character work."]]
* CharacterTics: Kicks in the air when she's angry. Stems from Frank asking to be a part of The Gang, and Dee threatening to "kick the pillars [of Paddy's] in" while kicking at Frank.
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Sweet Dee's character was originally written to be the [[WomenAreWiser voice of the reason]] or the [[TheChick "useless chick"]]. Kaitlin Olson described the dialogue as "Charlie says something hilarious. Mac says something hilarious. Dennis says something awesome. And Sweet Dee goes 'You guys! That won't work!' " By the end of the first season, Dee is just as deranged and depraved as the guys.
* TheChewToy: Pretty much guaranteed to suffer the worst out of the Gang in any given episode.
* DeadpanSnarker: She has her moments. Of course, that comes with [[ButtMonkey having to put up with the boys' shit]].
* DearDiary: Dee kept a (written) diary in school and keeps a video diary in her adult years.
* DelusionsOfEloquence: She's nowhere near as classy as she thinks she is.
* EatsBabies: Or, at least claims to in "Hundred Dollar Baby."
* FagHag: In "The Gang Gets Racist" the man she is interested in is gay. In turn, he is very interested in Dennis.
* FakingTheDead: In "Mac and Charlie Die Part 2" Dee leads Dennis to believe she has been murdered.
* FemininityFailure: Played with - Dee has no trouble looking feminine, but whenever she tries to ''act'' like a lady, the results are bound to be disastrous.
* FreakOut: Over ''poop'' in "Who Pooped the Bed?".
* FreudianExcuse: Again, Frank as a father and a mother who criticized everything about her, made it known that Dee was unwanted (despite her and Dennis being fraternal twins) and favored Dennis over her. This has given her very poor self esteem (aided by way of having to spend most of her teenage years walking with heavy braces due to Scoliosis) and a laundry list of neuroses.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: The gang are always criticizing her looks and such. At one point, their treatment of Dee finally wore its welcome and she became depressed. They appeared to feel bad about what they did. But [[spoiler: that was all a part of their plan to sink her even lower then before to show her "things could be worse."]]
** Outside of the Gang her two "best friends" are the Waitress, who hates her guts, and Artemis, who was willing to sell her out in a second. To be fair to them, she only ever spends time with them when she has an ulterior motive.
* GiftedlyBad: She fancies herself a performer, and throws herself into acting, stand-up comedy and def poetry with passionate abandon. Too bad she's not particularly good at any of those things.
* GoingColdTurkey: Dennis and Dee get addicted to crack in a season 1 episode, and then go cold turkey to get back to normal.
* HugeSchoolgirl: A grown-up version of this trope. Dee is tall (5''8') and lanky, with size 13 feet, and very uncoordinated as a result.
* {{Hypocrite}}: Although Dee considers herself to be a compassionate liberal, in truth she is incredibly greedy and manipulative.
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Her desire for acceptance among the Gang is so strong that she's ecstatic to be included in the Gang's plans even if it involves her working at a fish factory. She's also the only main character who goes out of her way to cultivate friendships outside of the gang (namely, The Waitress and Artemis, both of whom admittedly dislike her).
* IncestSubtext: Dennis frequently calls her "baby", "babe" or "babygirl." They also slow-dance in "The Gang Dances Their Asses Off". Though he also is the loudest of all the gang when it comes to insulting Dee and pointing out every physical flaw, and in the episode where it was implied Dennis might have unknowingly slept with her, he literally would not stop vomiting.
* InformedDeformity: In-Universe. The gang constantly insults her looks in the most vicious way though she doesn't look significantly different from other female characters. This has less to do with her looks and more with the gang being dicks, as she has managed to entice quite a few attractive men before driving them away with her awful personality.
* IronicNickname: She's anything but sweet.
* IsThatCuteKidYours: After finding a baby in the Dumpster behind Paddy's, she and Mac decide to raise it and put it into showbiz. When a passerby asks his name, Mac replies with D.B. -- which is short for Dumpster Baby.
* TheKlutz: Dee is incredibly uncoordinated, resulting in a lot of physical comedy for the character. (She wasn't initially written that way, and this quality carries over from her actress).
* TheLadette: She chugs beer and swears like a sailor like the rest of the boys, though she still pretends she is a glamorous starlet like the girls in ''SexAndTheCity''.
* [[SirSwearsALot Lady-Swears-A-Lot]]: Dee is easily the most foul-mouthed member of the Gang, which is saying something.
* LameComeback: Dee will often parry an insult by repeating it back: e.g. when Mac calls Dee's new car a "piece of shit car", Dee responds with "You're a piece of shit... car".
* ManipulativeBitch: We find out in "Dee Gives Birth" that she emotionally abuses men into sleeping with her ([[NotSoAboveItAll which mirrors the behavior of her brother]]).
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: With her brother Dennis. Dee is TheLadette, and is the more uncouth, uncultured and overtly aggressive of the two. Also, she's fairly fit and athletic, especially in comparison to her NonActionGuy brother.
* MistakenForMurderer: In "Mac is a Serial Killer" Dee and Dennis pretend to be serial killers and stalk the Waitress.
* OddFriendship: She actually gets along comparatively well with Charlie, to the point where he could be considered the only member of the group who is actually her friend.
** This is most notable in "The Gang Misses the Boat." When the gang breaks up, she and Charlie spend the time bonding, encouraging each other, [[spoiler: and eventually making out/possibly sleeping together]].
* OneOfTheBoys: She is TheLadette who hangs out only with guys, and is just as loud, crude and tough as them. However despite being very much "one of the boys", she's the gang's resident ButtMonkey and TheFriendNobodyLikes.
* OnlySaneWoman: In the first season. Though they eventually made her just as depraved as everyone else, because otherwise there would be no reason why she would even associate with these people.
* ParentalIncest: She and Frank pose as an engaged couple, and even go as far as getting married. [[spoiler:Although Frank isn't Sweet Dee's biological father, it's still creepy.]]
* PerformanceAnxiety: Dee suffers from debilitating stage fright which cause her to dry heave while performing in front of a crowd.
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero[=/=][[PoliticallyIncorrectVillain Villain]]: All of Dee's 'crazy characters' that she's created are outrageously racist. One of them even uses {{Brownface}}. Also Charlie has expressed some dismay upon seeing [[{{Yellowface}} her]] {{Asian| Buck Teeth}} [[AsianSpeekeeEngrish character]].
* ReallyGetsAround: When the guys try to find out who the father of Dee's baby is in "Dee Gives Birth", they're impressed by the amount of the action she gets and decide to step up their own game to match her success in getting laid.
* ShesAllGrownUp: PlayedWith. She had to wear an unflattering back brace throughout high school and was thus incredibly unpopular. Whenever she encounters one of her former schoolmates they're quick to point out how good looking she's become, only to realize that while she's outwardly much better than in high school, inwardly she has remained stunted and has only become more twisted over time.
* ShirtlessScene: "The Gang Solves The North Korea Situation."
* ShowSomeLeg: On more than one occasion, Dee dresses as a prostitute.
* SlapSlapKiss: {{Invoked}} in "The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award", where Dennis forces her and Mac to have this dynamic to draw in customers a la [[{{Series/Cheers}} Sam and Diane]]. Unfortunately, rather than flirty sexual tension, Mac and Dee's tension is much more aggressive, violent and founded on mutual hatred rather than any sort of attraction.
* SlapStickKnowsNoGender: Body humor, pratfalls, and AmusingInjuries are Sweet Dee's signatures.
* SmallNameBigEgo: She thinks she's lady-like and compassionate. But in reality, she's crude, rude, and trashy. She also thinks she's more talented at acting than she actually is.
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: She's the only female member of the gang. Justified in that none of the guys seem to have any interest in women beyond sex and only hang around Dee because A) They're forced to since she works with them, and B) To use as a personal punching bag.
* STDImmunity: Averted.
-->'''Sweet Dee''': It seems like I have a rash in a place where a sexually active person can have a rash.
* [[StraightMan Straight Woman]]: The reason Dee gets so many scenes with Charlie is because her actress is the most successful at remaining deadpan when he [[ThrowItIn starts riffing off the cuff]].
* TankTopTomboy: Often seen wearing tank tops, befitting her [[TheLadette ladette]] nature.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: Punctuates many of her remarks with the word "bitch".
* TheUnfavorite: Her mother thought Dennis could do nothing wrong and she could do nothing right.
* VanityPlate: When she buys a scooter in "The Gang Gets Audited", its license plate says "$CAMMING".
* WhosYourDaddy: The boys spend most of a season trying to figure out who got her pregnant. [[spoiler:Turns out she was the surrogate for Carmen the transsexual and her husband Nick]].
* YouGoGirl: In "The Gang gets Invincible", Dee [[SweetPollyOliver dresses as a man]] and takes part in an open audition for the Philadelphia Eagles along with Mac and Dennis, in order to prove that girls can play football. She does, in fact, get farther than the very unfit Mac and Dennis, in part due to her excellent kicking abilities. Too bad she breaks her foot, rendering her chances nill.

!![[spoiler:Ronald]] "Mac" [[spoiler:[=MacDonald=]]]
[[caption-width-right:350:''"I gave him an ocular pat down."'']]
->'''Played By:''' Creator/RobMcElhenney

-->''"The streets are flooded with the ejaculate of the homeless, and you people are counting on the police?"''

One of the co-owners of Paddy's Pub and its self-proclaimed head of security. He is Charlie's [[ChildhoodFriends childhood friend]], and Dennis' high school friend and later roommate. The son of a convicted felon, Mac is frequently trying to demonstrate his toughness and refers to himself as the "sheriff of Paddy's". He also often brags about his hand-to-hand combat skills, although he typically flees any type of physical confrontation.
* AbusiveParents: His mother was emotionally vacant and his father went to prison when he was 8 or 9 for dealing meth and heroin.
* AlliterativeName: Calls himself "Vic Vinegar" whenever he needs a pseudonym. Also, he's referred to as [[spoiler:Ronald Reynolds]] in "The Gang Goes on Family Fight".
** His EmbarrassingNickname in high school was [[spoiler:Ronnie the Rat]]. (See UnfortunateName, below.)
* AmbiguouslyGay: In earlier seasons, Mac regularly sleeps with women, but it's hinted that he's into men as well (he gushes over the male physique, particularly that of Chase Utley, enjoys a homoerotic friendship with Dennis, and while dating a pre-op MTF transsexual (twice!) says that her penis makes him feel weird things).
** Later seasons throw the ambiguity out of the window, with Mac losing whatever attraction he felt toward the opposite sex: he gets aroused only by dudes, actively seeks situations where he can feel up beefcakes, fantasizes about a Heaven filled with sexy shirtless guy angels, and tries to kiss Dennis on two separate occasions. The creators [[WordOfGod have confirmed]] that Mac is, indeed, queer, and from season 8 onwards he is firmly in ArmouredClosetGay territory (see below).
* AnguishedDeclarationOfLove: He abruptly confesses his love to Dennis when the gang is held hostage by the [=McPoyles=]. The admission goes unreciprocated and is never mentioned again.
* AnythingThatMoves: Had sex with Margaret [=McPoyle=], a woman he's openly disgusted by, simply because she offered. In general, if Mac has the option of having sex with something, he'll have sex with it.
* ArmouredClosetGay: He tries to cover up his attraction towards men by being a HeteronormativeCrusader.
** There's an episode called "Mac Fights Gay Marriage," in which Mac uses homophobia as an excuse to be jealous that some guy married Carmen, a (transsexual) [[InsaneTrollLogic woman]]. It is repeatedly pointed out that Mac had sex with Carmen back when she still had a penis, so his objections make even ''less'' sense.
** In "Mac Day", he apparently spent 5 hours lecturing the Gang about the evils of homosexuality (and at one point claimed that [=AIDs=] is God's punishment for gays). Everyone else said it was incredibly blatant he had a boner the entire time. Later in the episode, he has himself and the gang grease up male bodybuilders, during which the Gang notes he has a boner again.
* AuthorAppeal: The movie that he writes in "The Gang Makes Lethal Weapon 6" is so rife with homoerotic undertones that it gets confused for gay porn.
* BadassBeard: Considering he's in a perpetual state of trying to be a badass, this is most likely why he has a beard.
* BadassLongcoat: "It's not a jacket, it's a duster. It's like a jacket, only it's longer, thicker, and far more badass. I look like Lorenzo Lamas, and women find it irresistible." Subverted though, in that Mac is anything but a badass.
* BeardOfEvil: Has a beard and is a prejudiced ass.
* BerserkButton: He has many, usually relating to insults directed at him or his mother.
* BigEater: To the point of gaining a significant amount of weight in Season 7.
* TheBigGuy: Seems to think that he's this, what with his constant claims of being the sheriff of Paddy's, but everyone else is all too aware that he's anything but this. In the episode where his role in the FiveManBand is determined, he fights for the position of "The Muscle" before settling on "[[TheSmartGuy The Brain]]", while in reality he's more or less TheLancer.
* BoisterousWeakling: Mac's always eager to fight, but in the instances where he doesn't simply [[DirtyCoward run away]], his fights are always [[CurbstompBattle Curbstomp Battles]] in his opponent's favor. At one point he knocks ''himself'' unconscious when trying to remove Charlie from the bar.
* {{Catchphrase}}: "What's up, bitches?"
** Many episodes start with Mac entering the bar and saying "Guys, I've got news!" or a variation thereof.
* CelebCrush: Has a thing for Chase Utley, to the point of writing him [[LoveLetter love letters]] (which he claims are platonic).
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: in earlier seasons, Mac is portrayed as straight (with a fetish for older women) and fairly liberal (for a member of the Gang, anyway). In later seasons, he's a closeted, bigoted gay man. This is possibly an example of negative CharacterDevelopment: presumably, as Mac's attraction to men grows more pronounced and harder to deny, he becomes more [[TheFundamentalist reactionary and pseudo-religious]] in defense.
* CompetitionFreak: He finds opportunity for competition in the most ridiculous of things - e.g. proving that [[BlatantLies he is the least fond of smashing things up]] - and whenever he's excluded from said competition, he tries to foster rivalries between other members of the Gang, as seen in "The Gang Beats Boggs".
-->'''Mac''': Yeah. I need you to start a [=McGwire=]/Sosa-like rivalry with Dee.
-->'''Charlie''': Look, I think you're getting, like, too worked up about this thing. Can we just drink the beer and hang out, you know?
* DependingOnTheWriter: While he's always presented as far, ''far'' less skilled of a fighter than he claims to be, the show switches between whether he is [[UnskilledButStrong physically pretty strong but lacking in any stamina or fighting ability]], or completely weak in every sense of the word. He can also range anywhere from showing explicit interest in women ([[NoAccountingForTaste and having no standards]]) to being in a TransparentCloset depending on what's funniest.
* DirtyCoward: Even worse than the rest of the gang (with the exception of Dennis). In one instance, he decided to beat up Bruce Mathis but freaked out and bailed before confronting him; in another, he pushed Dee forward and ran away when threatened with a mugging.
* EatTheEvidence: He has eaten paper contracts in order to make them invalid. It hasn't always worked.
* EmbarrassingNickname: in high school, he was called [[spoiler:Ronnie the Rat]].
** When he joins TheMafia in "The Gang Gets Whacked", the gangsters take to calling him "Pussyhands".
* EvenBadMenLoveTheirMamas: Mistreatment of mothers is one of the many things that set him off.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Mac is the only member of the gang who is consistently openly affectionate with his parents. This is directly tied with his WellDoneSonGuy nature, as both Mrs Mac and Luther generally respond to him with indifference or outright annoyance.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He is typically the only one to protest the scheme that the gang cooks up if it's too morally reprehensible: when he wants out, he sometimes just leaves and says "I'm washing my hands of the whole situation!" He normally comes back to their schemes after leaving, though.
** He also finds Dennis's predilection towards DateRape disturbing, and once told Dennis and Dee off for their plan to go on welfare after their unemployment runs out.
-->'''Mac''': Welfare is for people who need it, like drug addicts and single mothers. It's not for over privileged pieces of shit who want to waste millions in taxpayer dollars.
* FakeBand: Chemical Toilet.
* FakingTheDead: "Mac and Charlie Die" Parts 1 and 2. [[spoiler: He and Charlie fake their death in order to escape from Mac's father, who they believe is trying to kill them.]]
* {{Fetish}}: A recurring trend with make is his interest in various niche fetishes, such as older women and transexuals. The staff describes him as "spinning around, trying out different things, but inevitably ending up on a dick".
* FightingIrish: He is a very hot-blooded and confrontational Irish American.
* {{Flanderization}}: While his homoerotic obsession with muscles and Dennis was always a thing, it has been dialed UpToEleven as the seasons went by, up to a point where Mac is canonically gay and heavily implied to be into Dennis.
* FreudianExcuse: His [[ParentalNeglect parents' neglect]] led him to constantly seek approval and attention in adulthood.
* TheFriendNobodyLikes: He becomes this in "Mac Day" due to his constant denial of who he really is. Later episodes show the Gang expressing more consistent frustration with him.
* TheFundamentalist: Moreso as the series progresses. Dialed UpToEleven in "Mac Day".
* FunTShirt: Punny/funny T-shirts are a staple of his wardrobe.
* GlobalIgnorance: Apparently thinks Philadelphia and Detroit are states.
* GymBunny: Mac shows shades of this stereotype, e.g. his love of sports stems partly from his obsession with the male physique, and he only ever goes to the gym to ogle beefcakes and work on his glamour muscles.
* HasAType: While he's not picky about who he has sex with (see AnythingThatMoves), he has consistently shown a preference for beefy hunks (making his implied attraction to unfit and waifish Dennis very ironic).
* HeavenSeeker: Much to the increduity of his friends, Mac will occasionally refuse to participate in the Gang's schemes if he believes they compromise the likelihood of him getting into heaven (which, in his opinion, is populated by hunk angels and a buff shirtless god). See RaisedCatholic, below.
* HeManWomanHater: While all the male members of the gang are pretty misogynistic, Mac's the only one to explicitly state that he hates women. Out of the gang, he also has the worst relationship with Dee.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Dennis, though "heterosexual" is debatable in this instance. The commentary for "Mac and Dennis Break Up" has the staff (perhaps jokingly) suggest that Mac and Dennis are possibly queer and in a pre-sexual romantic relationship that neither is completely conscious of.
** Mac plays the trope straighter (...ha ha) with Charlie, who he has known since childhood.
* HighSchoolHustler: A negative example. He dealt weed in high school in a selfish bid to be popular, and ratted out his competition to clean up the market.
* HotBlooded: He is quick to anger, and has a tendency to act first and think never (e.g. he offers to take a BloodOath and slices his hand before anybody actually agrees to it).
* {{Hypocrite}}: Mac is a very devout Catholic but lives by absolutely none of the church's teachings. Most notably, he joins an anti-abortion movement until he believes that he gets a girl pregnant, then suggests that she get an abortion.
* IJustWantToBeBadass: Mac is entirely motivated by his desire to be the resident {{Badass}}. Unfortunately for him, his DirtyCoward nature actually makes him the member of the Gang with the fewest AwesomeMoments.
* IncrediblyObviousBug: When he and Charlie fake their own deaths, they hide in the air-vent during their joint funeral at Paddy's, talking at full volume. This alerts Dennis that they aren't actually dead.
* InstantExpert: Often believes himself to be this but he really, really isn't.
* IsThatCuteKidYours: After finding a baby in the dumpster behind Paddy's, Dee and Mac decide to raise it and put it into showbiz. When a passerby asks his name, Mac replies with D.B. -- which is short for Dumpster Baby.
* LikeFatherLikeSon: Mac tries to deliberately invoke this trope by dealing drugs, emulating his father's appearance and acting tough. Subverted in that Luther used to be a genuinely terrifying and capable criminal whereas Mac is a cowardly, incompetent small-time crook. See WellDoneSonGuy below. A later episode does reveal, however, that Luther is bisexual, further highlighting Mac's own repressed attraction to men.
* LikesOlderWomen: As a result of sleeping with Dennis and Dee's mother.
* ManChild / PsychopathicManChild: While Dennis, Charlie, and Dee show shades of this as well, Mac is by FAR the biggest example. He's constantly doing childish stunts for his "Project Badass" videos, and notice how he acts anytime he shares the screen with his parents.
* ManipulativeBastard: He was a drug dealer in high school and ratted on all the other dealers to free up the market.
* MartialArtsAndCrafts: Inserts arbitrary roundhouse kicks and karate chops into pretty much everything he does.
* MilesGloriosus: He brags about being a great martial artist. In reality, he's a DirtyCoward who knows nothing about fighting. He did block a punch from a black belt once, but only to get knocked out shortly afterward.
* MistakenForGay: Seen in the original pilot that was pitched to FX. (The scene didn't make it to the series proper).
* MistakenForMurderer: The episode "Mac is a Serial Killer." He's actually [[spoiler: banging Carmen the Transsexual. Again.]]
* MistakenForRacist: In "The Gang Gets Racist."
* NeatFreak: Much like Dennis, he's very clean and organized where his living space is concerned. He even cleans [[ThePigpen Charlie's apartment]] when he moves in with him for an episode.
* OnlyOneName: Mac. Just Mac. It was believed to be his last name, because his parents are referred to as Mrs. Mac and Luther Mac to keep the gag going. But in "The Gang Cracks The Liberty Bell", in which Mac, Dennis and Charlie tell the story of The Gang's 1776 counterparts cracking the Liberty Bell, he is referred to as "[=MacDonald=]." "The High School Reunion" gives us the whole thing: [[spoiler: Ronald [=McDonald=]]].
* OralFixation: Has a habit of chewing / sucking on pens, probably as a manifestation of his repressed homosexuality. It gets so bad that Dennis has to keep all the pens in their apartment hidden.
* PoliticallyIncorrectHero/[[PoliticallyIncorrectVillain Villain]]: He's a homophobic fundamentalist. And he not only thinks {{Blackface}} can be done tastefully, but has done it himself.
* ProgressivelyPrettier: Inverted in Season 7, where he suddenly gains 60 pounds and becomes a lot less good looking. Rob [=McElhenney=] was actually really annoyed at the trend of ProgressivelyPrettier in television, especially for actors that play characters that would have no access to (blatantly obvious) plastic surgery or personal trainers, so he put on a ton of weight just to mock the practice.
* PuppyDogEyes: One of his signature looks, which he flashes whenever he wants to get his way or is feeling sympathetic / confused.
* RagingStiffie: A recurring problem for Mac, who gets easily aroused when in close proximity to beefcakes (or Dennis).
* RaisedCatholic: PlayedForLaughs since he only remembers his Catholic faith when he wants to complain or to criticize other people.
* RedOniBlueOni: The Red Oni to Dennis' Blue.
* {{Schemer}}: The M.A.C. system for seducing Dennis' castoffs. [[spoiler: Move-in After Completion.]]
* ScreamsLikeALittleGirl: Whenever he's really, ''really'' happy, he emits loud, high-pitched squeals of delight more befitting a five-year-old (best demonstrated in "A Very Sunny Christmas" when he's psyched about the Christmas gifts).
* SlapSlapKiss: {{Invoked}} in "The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award", where Dennis forces him and Dee to have this dynamic to draw in customers a la [[{{Series/Cheers}} Sam and Diane]]. Unfortunately, rather than flirty sexual tension, Mac and Dee's tension is much more aggressive, violent and founded on mutual hatred rather than any sort of attraction.
* SleevesAreForWimps: Mac usually wears sleeveless t-shirts in order to appear more {{Badass}} and show off his tats, and even makes the rest of the gang do the same when they have to all listen to him for the day in "Mac Day".
* SmartBall: Easily the biggest victim of this. Depending on the episode, his intelligence can vary wildly from [[OnlySaneMan the most rational member of the Gang]] to [[TooDumbToLive even dumber than Charlie]].
* STDImmunity: Averted. Mac never uses condoms during sex due to his Catholic beliefs, and accumulates diseases as a result.
-->'''Frank''': Mac, you're too low-class. All those women are going to think they will catch something from you.
-->'''Mac''': They will.
* StickyFingers: He often instinctively steals things he doesn't actually need (e.g. trying to pocket an ashtray in "The Gang Goes on Family Fight" despite having given up smoking by that time).
* StoutStrength: This varies in Season 7 when he puts on 50 pounds.
* StraightGay: While [[DirtyCoward nowhere near manly]], he doesn't have any CampGay traits either.
* TattooedCrook: He has a number of "tribal" tattoos on his arms which he likes to show off. Subverted, of course, in that Mac's not the hardened criminal he pretends to be.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: Frequently greets the Gang with "What's up, bitches?!"
* TooDumbToLive: He tells a mob boss's wife that he won't sleep with her because she's gross in "The Gang Gets Whacked".
* TransparentCloset: By season 9, Mac's sexuality is obvious to the rest of the gang, even though he himself is still in denial.
-->'''Charlie''': I know we've never said this as a group, but Mac's gay, right?
-->''(the rest of the gang agrees)''
* UnderdressedForTheOccasion: His idea of formalwear is a tie over a polo shirt. The occasions where he ''does'' dress up almost always have him ridiculously overdressed.
* UnfortunateName: [[spoiler:Ronald [=McDonald=]]]. And his nickname was [[spoiler:Ronnie the Rat]] for narcing on drug dealers in high school.
* VerbalTic: Tends to pepper his sentences with the word "bro" frequently.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Mac, still stuck on adolescence, desperately seeks the approval of his creepy wayward father Luther. While Luther is in prison, Mac tries unsuccessfully to show him that he's "hard." When Luther first gets out of prison, Mac becomes emotionally invested in getting his parents back together, sputtering, "This is about happy boys!" He even tries to bond with his father by driving him to the houses of everybody who was responsible for getting him convicted. In the end of "Mac & Charlie Die Part II," Luther leaves a note telling Mac that he still loves him, even though Mac has driven him away with his constant screw-ups.
* WhatTheFuAreYouDoing: On the occasions where he shows off his martial arts skills it becomes painfully obvious that he has none.

!!Charlie Kelly
[[caption-width-right:350:''"Wildcard, bitches! Yeeee-ha!"'']]
->'''Played By:''' Creator/CharlieDay

-->''"Bro, I can handle my sedatives."''

A [[ChildhoodFriends childhood friend]] of Mac and later high school friend of Dennis and Dee. He is also Frank's roommate. Charlie does most of the dirty work (referred to as "Charlie Work") at the pub, is borderline illiterate, an alcoholic and substance abuser and is often seen huffing glue and paint. He suffers from deep psychological problems and lives in squalor. An abortion survivor, Charlie has extreme anger issues and often screams to get his point across. He also has a severely unhealthy obsession with "The Waitress", who finds Charlie repulsive and shows no interest in him.
* AbusiveParents: Of a very different kind than the rest of the group. His mother has a horrendous case of SuperOCD and coddled him to a point where he can't properly function in society.
* AlmightyJanitor: Charlie, who does most of the janitorial jobs around Paddy's, is actually the one keeping the bar afloat through his work ethic and bouts of ingenuity. This is especially evident in "Charlie Work" where he ensures a surprise health inspection goes smoothly and brings the bar a good grade.
** However, this has also been painfully subverted on occasion. In "The Gang Reignites the Rivalry", Charlie goes undercover into a fraternity, and assumes his janitorial skills will allow him to "Good Will Hunting" the frat brothers and impress them into letting him in. (They don't). In the two-parter "The Gang Gets a New Member" / "Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth", Charlie leaves the bar and the gang and becomes a janitor at a local high school, where he tries to mentor students. (Unsuccessfully).
* {{Asexuality}}: While he's obviously got [[StalkerWithACrush romantic feelings]] for the Waitress, and does show sexual attraction to other women (even to the point of masturbating to drawings of them), Charlie is implied to have very little interest in actually having sex, and even [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OG3xRol51qI stated so in a deleted scene]]. Though, he does mention that it would be fine with a specific woman in the same scene.
* {{Beware the Nice|Ones}}/[[BewareTheSillyOnes Silly Ones]]: When Charlie has been wronged, and is on his A-Game, he can easily become [[TheChessmaster the biggest Chessmaster]] in the series.
* BreakoutCharacter: Probably the most iconic character in the series. Charlie Day has found the most mainstream success of the cast as a result.
* BumblingSidekick: He's TheDitz of the group. As a result, when the gang has a scheme, he sometimes manages to screw it up. Not that the others don't do their fair share of screwing up.
* ButtMonkey: Watch any episode of this show. Any episode. If not him, then Sweet Dee. Usually both of them.
* CaughtWithYourPantsDown: Multiple times.
* ChaoticStupid: When the gang determined that Charlie is the "Wild Card" of the group, Charlie took it as a cue to go completely insane. Not that he had far to go.
* ChekhovsGun: Often has some sort of crazy idea, scheme or object whose meaning isn't clear until the very end, as in the episode "The Nightman Cometh."
* TheChessmaster:
** In "Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom," he orchestrates a BatmanGambit [[spoiler:to go on a date with the Waitress]].
** Reaches new heights in "Charlie Work", where a surprise health inspection falls on the day the rest of the gang decide to try a ZanyScheme involving a steak delivery man and a bunch of chickens. Charlie has to scramble to move the the health inspector, the rest of the gang, ''and'' the delivery man to the right spots with pitch-perfect timing so that the health inspector won't notice the pub's innumerable code violations or the delivery man's suspicious grievances, the delivery man will think the pub is actually a steakhouse, and [[ItMakesSenseInContext Mac and Dennis can contaminate the delivery man's steaks with chicken feathers.]] Charlie ''also'' has time to set up a BrickJoke by [[spoiler:sabotaging a particular barstool Charlie knew Dee would sit on]]. To drive home the sheer skill this kind of tactical genius would take, the majority of the episode consists of [[TheOner an extended unbroken shot]].
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: His favorite food? "Milk steak". Hobby? Magnets. Likes? Ghouls. ("You know, funny little green ghouls?") Dislikes? People's knees.
* ClusterFBomb: In "A Very Sunny Christmas" [[spoiler:Charlie repeatedly screams "DID YOU FUCK MY MOM?!" at a mall Santa, and then takes a bite out of his neck.]]
** In "The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award", he sings a mostly bleeped-out song.
** In "Mac & Dennis: Manhunters" Charlie drops the F-bomb. It was (obviously) censored when it aired on TV, and disappointingly censored on the Season 4 [=DVDs=].
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Despite being a lovable idiot, he can be a vicious {{Chessmaster}} when he wants to be. He's also generally the only member of the Gang (except Frank) who ever does well in a fight. He possesses a savant-like skill in music and the ability to ice skate, among other things. Hidden genius beneath salient stupidity seems to be his specialty.
* DrunkWithPower: Charlie is the Gang's least ambitious member and is, for most of the time, completely happy in his job as a janitor. However, on the rare occasions that he finds himself in a position of power, he completely flies off his rocker and turns into a veritable dictator. (The episode "Charlie Rules the World" is a prime example of this trope in motion).
* DumbIsGood: Charlie is the least intelligent member of the Gang but is also the least morally bankrupt.
* ExtremeOmnivore: He doesn't deny the possibility of newspaper, credit card fragments, and wolf hair being in his stool in "Who Pooped the Bed?". In "The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore", he drinks sunscreen. And he eats stickers "all the time, dude!"
* FakingTheDead: "Mac and Charlie Die" Parts 1 and 2. [[spoiler: He and Mac fake their death in order to escape from Mac's father, who they believe is trying to kill them.]]
** BackFromTheDead: After Mac, Charlie and Dee fake their own deaths, they hide in the office of Paddy's. When Frank and Dennis come in, they run out -- carrying sparklers -- and Sweet Dee yells "Surprise, bitches! We're alive and it's blowing your MINDS right now!"
* {{Flanderization}}: He went from "somewhat awkward, sometimes loud, and occasionally dim-witted, with a mild crush on this one waitress" to "entirely illiterate, possibly insane and ''definitely'' a [[AmbiguousDisorder savant]], StalkerWithACrush and NoIndoorVoice."
* FreudianExcuse: He was an abortion survivor (may or may not have contributed to his impaired mental faculties) with no father (though [[spoiler: Frank may be Charlie's missing father]]), an OCD, overbearing and sexually promiscuous mother, and was most likely molested as a child by his uncle. It explains a lot.
* GeniusDitz / HiddenDepths: Charlie is good at piano, sewing, songwriting and ice-skating; wrote and directed a musical despite being functionally illiterate; and can pull off some very Machiavellian plots when properly motivated.
* GenkiGuy: He has a near-limitless supply of energy and enthusiasm, which unfortunately goes misplaced most of the time due to his incompetence and selfishness.
* TheHeart: He's easily the sweetest member of the gang, and the only one who's friends with each of the other main characters.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Frank. He's also this with Mac, who he has known since childhood.
* HotBlooded: Pretty much comes with being the LargeHam that Charlie is.
* HypercompetentSidekick: Along with his many hidden talents, ''Charlie Work'' reveals him to be the only reason Paddy's hasn't been shut down for its countless health code violations.
* IncrediblyObviousBug: When he and Mac fake their own deaths, they hide in the air-vent during their joint funeral at Paddy's, talking at full volume. This alerts Dennis that they aren't actually dead.
* InnocentlyInsensitive: Other than joining in on the guys' verbal beat downs of Dee, Charlie almost never intends to offend anyone, he's just really, ''really'' stupid and naturally violent.
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: To the Waitress, but instead of letting another guy have her, he agrees to stop stalking her. This ends poorly for her, because his "activities" have actually been keeping her out of a lot of trouble. [[spoiler: It turns out that him not stalking her was just a part of his plan to pull an OperationJealousy.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He shows more empathy than any other member of the Gang and seems to have slightly higher ethical standards.
* KavorkaMan: He gets two very attractive girls interested in him, despite being a spastic weirdo. He has no interest at all in either, preferring to continue stalking the Waitress.
* KindHeartedSimpleton: Well, "kindhearted" is pushing it, but Charlie is consistently shown to be the most decent person of the Gang and is heavily implied to be mentally disabled. Most of his mean-spirited actions also come off as him being more InnocentlyInsensitive than anything else.
* LargeHam:
-->"YOU ALL WANT A GO AT [[Film/{{Serpico}} SERPICO]], IS THAT IT?!"
* LimitedWardrobe: Charlie is the only main cast member seen wearing the same clothes over and over, emphasizing his poverty. In one episode he states that he repairs his old clothes rather than buy anything new. Notable favorites include his black and red horse t-shirt, green army jacket and long thermal underwear. Some of these clothes are Charlie Day's actual property.
* LIsForDyslexia / NeverLearnedToRead: Charlie has difficulty reading and writing, which is often pointed out by the rest of the gang as a learning disability or outright illiteracy. His writing is either garbled gibberish or at least partially in pictoral form, though he does manage to write a musical, albeit translated by Artemis to proper English for the rest of The Gang's sake.
* LovableCoward: Downplayed. He does have some DirtyCoward moments [[note]] (leaving Dee behind when running away from a mugger, fantasizing about saving the waitress by pushing Dee (instead of {{h|eroic Sacrifice}}imself) in front of her to prevent her from getting shot, etc)[[/note]], but he is the most likable and pitiable member of the gang by far.
* {{Lolicon}}: He gets engaged to a 12 year old in "The Gang Solves the North Korea Situation." Of course, he thought she was older and didn't so much as kiss her, as they had mutually agreed stuff like that was gross.
* LukeIMightBeYourFather: In the finale of Season 2, [[spoiler: it is revealed that Frank may very well be Charlie's father.]] Season 10 reveals that the gang didn't care enough to have it definitively tested.
* MadeOfIron: Charlie cannot be killed or permanently hurt.
** Charlie's mom had an abortion while pregnant with him, but he still managed to survive it, along with living through that hilariously revolting life style of his.
** He's also been electrocuted, like, 500 times according to Mac.
** Charlie eats a brownie filled with drugs, even though Mac claims it has enough drugs in it to kill a gorilla. Charlie replies "I can handle my sedatives, bro." He ends up outlasting most of the contestants after several hours(despite being barely conscious), and manages to come in third place before finally passing out.
** Mac and Dennis consider him to be almost indestructible. They train him to be a pit fighter by repeatedly smashing him with various objects.
* ManBitesMan: Charlie realizes that his mother was a prostitute who slept with men at Christmas, and those men often dressed (sometimes shabbily) as Santa Claus to fool Charlie. He has something of a freak-out, and winds up sinking his teeth into the throat of a mall Santa.
* ManChild / PsychoticManChild: His general CloudCuckoolander personality, and the fact that he found himself to have plenty of things in common with a 12 year old all give this impression.
* MenCantKeepHouse: played with. On the one hand, he can't be bothered to keep his apartment clean (and its horrible state reflects that). On the other hand, he shines in his job as a janitor at Paddy's.
* MoralityPet: A ''very'' mild example of this to Frank, as he appears to be the only person Frank genuinely cares about besides himself. This doesn't mean much most of the time, but occasionally causes Frank to back down.
* NoIndoorVoice: After the first season, '''CHARLIE SCREAMS ALL THE TIME.'''
* OddFriendship: He gets along rather well with Dee, especially in comparison to how the other members of the group treat her.
** This is most notable in "The Gang Misses the Boat" where when the gang breaks up, he and Dee spend the time bonding, encouraging each other [[spoiler: and eventually making out and maybe sleeping together]].
* PerpetualPoverty: While none of the Gang are financially secure, Dennis, Dee and Mac live in nice apartments and frequently spend far more money than they actually possess, putting them all in severe debt. Charlie on the other hand lives in an apartment that is nothing short of terrifying, lives off of cat food and wolf hair and generally never seems to have any money whatsoever.
* PhraseCatcher:
-->"God damn it, Charlie!"
-->"So stupid, Charlie..."
* ThePigpen: He lives in squalor and has limited personal hygiene. Mac says that he has never seen Charlie put on deodorant.
* RapeAsBackstory: Very strongly implied to have been molested by his uncle.
* RenaissanceMan: Surprisingly, despite his lack of intelligence, Charlie is shown to be the most artistically gifted and versatile of the group.
* SonOfAWhore: In "A Very Sunny Christmas", Charlie reflects on what his childhood was like during Christmas. A bunch of Santas would come in, give him presents, and go upstairs with his mom to cheer her up. Mac suggests that his mom was whoring herself out on Christmas day. Charlie [[{{understatement}} doesn't take the realization very well]].
* SingleTargetSexuality: The Waitress, obviously. In ten seasons, Charlie has dated exactly one other woman, with the sole intention of using her to make the Waitress jealous. When the gang tries group dating, Charlies explicitly says multiple times that he's only doing it to improve his game with the Waitress. Of course, [[spoiler:he has also made out and possibly slept with Dee]].
* StalkerWithACrush: Has been obsessed with the Waitress for years, to the point where he often has to live off of cat food because he spends all of his money paying spies to follow her. He even wrote and staged a musical to propose to her. She has multiple restraining orders against him. Ironically, the actress who plays the Waitress is Charlie Day's wife.
* TheStoner: He huffs glue and spray paint, which is part of where his WildCard / ButtMonkey status comes from.
* StrawLoser: Charlie manages to make Mac, Dee and Dennis look pretty successful and well-adjusted in comparison, as they all have fairly nice apartments and have had multiple relationships in contrast to Charlie's near literal Hell Hole of an apartment and fixation on a single woman who hates his guts.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Charlie is the closest thing the Gang has to a moral compass.
* TookALevelInJerkass:
** He often comes off as the nicest/most innocent member of the gang, but at the end of "Charlie and Dee Find Love" he [[spoiler: reveals that he was only dating a girl to make the Waitress jealous, and does so very publicly and insults her considerably.]]
** His shocking cruelty and vindictiveness in "Charlie Has Cancer," "Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom," and "Charlie and Dee Find Love" are excessive, [[EvenEvilHasStandards even by The Gang's standards.]]
* ThrowTheDogABone: Dennis, Mac, and Dee spend an entire episode trying to do this to Charlie when Frank tells them it's his birthday and he seems pretty depressed. Though things like taking him to a movie and a spa backfire horribly due to his insanity, they eventually find a book where he catalogs his dreams in pictographs and recreate some of the items in it. Charlie feels pretty happy.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: the mysterious "milk steak".
** His addiction to cheese is a RunningGag.
* UnknownRival: He believes himself to be the Lawyer's WorthyOpponent despite it being about as far from the truth as possible. The Lawyer frequently reminds him that this isn't the case but occasionally plays along to get him to leave him alone.
* VillainousBreakdown: He gets even more shrill and angry after gaining power in a social game in "Charlie Rules the World" and having his plans compromised.
* WildCard: Given the title of by Mac and Dennis in "The Gang Solves The Gas Crisis."

!!Frank Reynolds
[[caption-width-right:350:''"I may have started a money fire."'']]
->'''Played By:''' Creator/DannyDeVito

-->''"I don't know how many years on this earth I got left. I'm gonnna get real weird with it."''

The legal father of twins Dennis and Dee, and possibly the biological father of his roommate Charlie. He used to be a successful businessman with a long history of illegal operations and dealings with sordid characters, but chose to abandon that life and redeem himself after leaving his money-grabbing, cheating wife. He now shares a tiny, filthy studio apartment with Charlie, where they share a pullout couch.
* AbusiveParent: He was a terrible father who relentlessly emotionally tortured Dennis and Dee.
* AffablyEvil: One of the most depraved members of the gang. Also one of the most pleasant, and arguably the highest-functioning.
* AmbiguouslyBi: Frank and Charlie have a bizarre relationship. In one episode he believes that Charlie is dead and makes a mannequin of him. Charlie claims that he saw Frank "banging that thing."
* ArbitrarilyLargeBankAccount: His, in the words of Dennis, "seemingly infinite wealth" allows the gang to do whatever crazy scheme they want without having to worry about money. However, his vow to live a life of depravity means that he ''only'' uses his money to finance zany schemes, and he otherwise lives in complete squalor with Charlie and acts like a major tightwad.
* AxCrazy: He ''will'' pull out his gun and fire wildly into the air at the slightest provocation...or just no provocation.
* BadassGrandpa: He's just so batshit crazy that he's pretty relentless in a fight. Especially notable in comparison to the other members of the gang, who are [[DirtyCoward Dirty Cowards]] that suck at fighting.
* BaldOfEvil: [[CaptainObvious He's bald and evil]].
* BloodKnight: He seems pretty happy doing water torture and also wanted to kill a serial killer in the episode "[[MistakenForMurderer Mac is a Serial Killer]]."
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Psychotic as he may be, Frank is genuinely competent as an underhanded businessman, which, compared to the rest of the gang, makes him come off as something of a sage.
* CatchPhrase: Repeatedly says "What's the action?" in season 2 and "Bigtime!" in season 5.
* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: Frank has no problem selling anyone down the river.... friends, good samaritans, business associates, even (actually, ''especially'') his own children.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Becomes this the more depraved he gets. He participates in some of Charlie's weird activities involving bridges, boiling denim, and many other things.
* CombatPragmatist: He never hesitates to use dirty tricks in a fight, which is why he generally wins them.
* DirtyOldMan: He's the oldest member of the gang. He also hires prostitutes and has a food fetish.
* DropInCharacter: Frank is the only member of the Gang who isn't guaranteed to be in an episode, and several episodes begin with him kicking off the plot by announcing something while walking into the bar.
* EvenEvilHasStandards:
** Despite his ludicrous levels of depravity and cruelty, he's absolutely opposed to Dennis and Mac hunting [[spoiler:Rickety Cricket]] in "Mac and Dennis: Manhunters." Why this specific sociopathic scheme bothers him isn't particularly clear, unless [[spoiler: he really can't tell the difference between his life and John Rambo's]].
** He also opposes dousing a 12 year old in a wet T-shirt contest, and jumps in the way so he gets soaked instead.
** Although he has no problem using virtually any illicit substance that crosses his path, he thinks that only the true bottom of the barrel sells drugs, according to "The Gang Gets Whacked."
** He's the only one who insists that Cricket is taken to a hospital, after his hand's been shot.
* EvilMentor: Plays this to Mac whenever they share a plot together, such as teaching him how to run a sweat shop.
* ExtremeOmnivore: He doesn't deny the possibility of newspaper, credit card fragments, and wolf hair being in his stool in "Who Pooped the Bed?".
* FatBastard: One of the biggest bastards of the gang, and is played by Danny [=DeVito=] who is fairly overweight.
* {{Fetish}}: Food fetish. He has a fling with Artemis in "The Waitress is Getting Married." They put Bacon Bits in her hair to "make her feel like a Cobb Salad." This is also hinted at in "Mac & Charlie Die Part 2." Frank and Dennis go to an orgy, and all Frank does is eat. In "Who Got Dee Pregnant" Artemis and Frank experimented with food while having crazy loud sex in a dumpster.
* {{Flanderization}}: His behavior became more and more wild and depraved. Possibly [[JustifiedTrope justified]], in that he joined the gang in order to leave behind his successful-businessman lifestyle and embrace hedonism full-on instead, so has become progressively more addicted to any and all sorts of vice he can get his hands on, and more lost in his own life of depravity.
* FreudianExcuse: He was institutionalized as a kid, and the resulting traumatic experiences probably contributed to his uhighly unstable personality.
* GunNut: He loves to pull out his gun and according to "Reynolds vs. Reynolds: The Cereal Defense", he has several guns without a permit.
* TheHedonist: See DirtyOldMan, {{Fetish}}, AxCrazy, BloodKnight, and ExtremeOmnivore. He gave up his wealth for the sake of doing all the depraved things he wants to.
* HeterosexualLifePartners: With Charlie.
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[{{Jerkass}} Buys Dee's and Dennis's dream gifts for himself for Christmas every year]] in a twisted attempt to teach them that you have to earn what you get, a principle Frank claims made him a millionaire. As Dee immediately throws in his face, what made him a millionaire was embezzling from his partner.
** Him constantly calling his wife a [[FunetikAksent who-er]] - sorry, ''whore'' - gets rather ironic when he later frequents prostitutes.
* ILoveTheDead: On two occasions he's stated that he doesn't care what happens to his corpse. In "Frank's Little Beauties," he says that he'd have no problem with someone having sex with his corpse.
* IncrediblyObviousBug: Plants a baby monitor in a man's apartment in "The Gang Solves The Gas Crisis."
* KavorkaMan: Considering he looks like Danny [=DeVito=] (sorry Danny) he's done pretty well for himself and is the only character to have a consensual, on-going relationship...with Artemis.
* KissingCousins: Frank hooks up with his ex-wife's sister's daughter. They're not blood-related, but she's still his niece. Though he describes it as "awful," he still was willing to accept a handjob from her later in "The Gang Squashes Their Beefs."
** He specifically does this when he's trying to achieve the most depraved behavior possible. Originally, he wanted to bang his dead wife's sister (at her husband's funeral) but Mac convinced Frank that going after his own niece would be even more twisted.
* HypercompetentSidekick: Before joining the gang, he was a crooked businessman whose schemes actually succeeded. As a result, he is hands down the most competent and knowledgeable of the gang at cheating people, but generally chooses to take a back seat to the rest of the group as he enjoys doing their incredibly depraved and ridiculous schemes more than he does doing one that would actually work.
* LackOfEmpathy
* LukeIMightBeYourFather: In the finale of Season 2, [[spoiler: it is revealed that Frank is Charlie's real father, though he denies it and the plotline is mostly dropped afterwards.]] It is repeatedly mentioned in season 10, where the gang reveals that they intentionally avoided confirming it after all this time due to it being "too much of a hassle". Charlie doesn't seem to really care.
* ManipulativeBastard: Frank is a very shady business man. One time, he brought up the whole gun regulations debate up because he made a deal with a gun company and then decided to do the same thing with clean drinking water.
* MessyHair: His balding hair starts out combed down but as he joined the gang and the seasons went on, his hair becomes noticeably disheveled, likely to match his depravity.
* NobleDemon: One of the biggest things that sets him apart from the other four. While he doesn't have much in the way of empathy, he has a distinct moral code that he generally tries to follow to some degree.
* ParentalIncest:
** He and Dee pose as an engaged couple, and even go as far as getting married. [[spoiler:Although Dee isn't Frank's biological daughter, it's still creepy.]]
** [[spoiler:Shares a bed with Charlie, his biological son. They sleep ass-to-ass.]]
** After Charlie fakes his death, Frank dresses up a mannequin as [[spoiler:Charlie]] and Charlie claims [[spoiler:he saw Frank "banging that thing"]].
** Additionally, In "Mac Fights Gay Marriage" him and [[spoiler:Charlie]] try to get a civil union for the benefits.
** A possible double-kill in "Mac and Charlie Die: Part 2." He not only almost gets into a glory-hole situation with Dennis, [[spoiler:his adopted son]], but also [[spoiler:lets the mannequin he dubbed "New Charlie" watch.]]
* ParentalSubstitute: A twisted one for Mac and Charlie, particularly the latter, who didn't have father figures growing up. He tends to act more fatherly when dealing with them than he does when dealing with his legal children Dennis and Dee.
* PetTheDog: Assures a humiliated Charlie that [[spoiler:his musical was very good after the waitress refused his marriage proposal in front of the audience.]] Note that Mac, Dennis, and Dee were unconcerned as usual. This fits well with how far over the deep end he went when [[spoiler:he thought Charlie was dead, going to the point of carrying around a dummy of him.]]
* PintSizedPowerhouse: Frank is tiny, but stocky and incredibly strong.
* {{Red Baron}}: "The Warthog".
* RetiredBadass: He was a street fighting, drug dealing gang leader in his youth and still has several of his old connections.
* {{Schemer}}: Became a millionaire by screwing over his old business partner.
* ShirtlessScene: Emerges [[spoiler:fully nude from a couch in "A Very Sunny Christmas"]].
* TeamDad: To the group. Whether they like it or not, the Gang ''does'' turn to Frank when they need guidance and in a weird way actually respect his opinions and insight. This trope is twisted though, as Frank does nothing to protect the Gang from their worst instincts or manipulates them for his own ends, essentially making him an AbusiveParents version of this trope.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: Very frequently uses an emphatic "bitch."
* TokenAdult: [[ManChild Despite all of the other members of the group being in their thirties]], Frank is still treated like "the old guy" and is several decades older than everyone else. It helps that the other members of the gang are Manchildren whose emotional levels are (at their oldest) that of teenagers while Frank genuinely acts like a (mentally unstable and manipulative) adult.
* TriggerHappy: He's guaranteed to misfire a gun if he's holding one.
** ImperialStormTrooperMarksmanshipAcademy: He's a pretty terrible shot though.
* TheWatson: As the only outsider in the Gang, he frequently is used as a quick way for the others to explain their many weird traditions.
* WildCard: Frank fits the webpage's definition of this trope because he has no loyalty and is willing switch sides (and betray his own side) for his own benefit. He simply does what he thinks will give him the most profit. However in the FiveManBand dynamic (or the gang's definition), he's less of a [[TheLancer wild card]] and more of a [[TheBigGuy muscle]].

!Dennis & Dee's Family

!!Barbara Reynolds
->'''Played By:''' Anne Archer

Frank's gold-digging ex-wife and Dennis and Dee's mother. She was a cold, cruel, selfish woman with little affection for her family. Frank referred to her as his "whore wife".
* AbusiveParent: To Dee more than Dennis. In her will, she explicitly calls Dee "a mistake".
* AndThereWasMuchRejoicing: After her death, attitudes range from apathy to outright celebration. Frank pops champagne while Dee and Dennis are largely concerned with what she's left them.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: Dies off-screen in "Dennis and Dee's Mom is Dead," from a botched neck lift. Dee and Dennis don't care, and Frank is downright celebratory.
* GoldDigger: Married Frank for his money.
* ItsAllAboutMe: She is very self-centered and smug.
* KarmicDeath: It's oddly fitting that Barbara would die as a result of an unnecessary surgery she got to appease her own vanity.
* LackOfEmpathy: She stole medication from ''dying children'' and chastised Dee for telling one of them they won't die after they asked her if they would because "if they die, you'll look like a fool".
* MrsRobinson: {{Subverted| Trope}}. She banged Mac, but only to upset Frank and actually finds him quite unattractive.
* {{Narcissist}}: See It's All About Me.
* ParentalFavoritism: Towards Dennis.
%%* ReallyGetsAround
* RichBitch: Well, she did marry a rich guy for his money.
* SmugSnake: See It's All About Me, again.
* TheSociopath: The worst sociopath in the entire series, which is saying a ''lot''.
* YourCheatingHeart: She cheated on Frank with Bruce Mathis. Considering what we know about Barbara, it's likely she went through most of Philadelphia while married to Frank.

!!Bruce Mathis
->'''Played By:''' Stephen Collins

Dennis and Dee's biological father. The antithesis of Frank Reynolds, Bruce devotes his time and money to charities and philanthropic efforts, including adopting several suffering children in Africa.
* GoodIsNotSoft: He tries to teach Dennis and Dee a lesson by pushing them to their limits.
* NiceGuy: He does volunteer work and is very nice and courteous to Dee and Dennis before realizing they're bad people.
* OnlySaneMan: He starts out as a very reasonable person, but his desire to get the better of the gang makes him quickly lose his rational demeanor.

[[folder:Gail the Snail]]
!!Gail the Snail
->'''Played By:''' Creator/MaryLynnRajskub

* AbhorrentAdmirer: To just about everyone. Both platonically and sexually.
* {{Gonk}}: She's as unpleasant on the outside as she is on the inside.
* HaveIMentionedIAmSexuallyActiveToday: She brags about losing her virginity twice despite being 33 years old, once to her own mother.
--> '''Gail''': Guess what mom, I'm sexually active!
--> '''Donna''': You're 33, you're supposed to be sexually active!
* InSeriesNickname: She has two of them - primarily "Gail the Snail", largely due to her mucus and the fact that the only surefire way to get rid of her is to salt her. She's also known as "Garbage Pail Cousin", since she's generally disgusting.
%%* SpoiledBrat
* WomanChild: Downplayed, but there. She acts like a desperate teenager who just wants to fit in. She's in her thirties.

-> '''Played By:''' Tom Bower

Dee and Dennis' grandfather on their mother's side.
* NaziGrandpa: His nazi-war-veteran status and prejudices cause Dee and Dennis to be unsure about whether or not to pull the plug on him. This is because on one hand, they'd be killing a family member, but on the other hand, he's a nazi.
* ThoseWackyNazis: Fought in [=WWII=] on the side of the Germans and still believes in Aryan superiority.

!Charlie's Family

!!Bonnie Kelly
->'''Played By:''' Lynne Marie Stewart

Charlie's mom, a sweet and timid woman who is attracted to cruel men. She had a one-night stand with Frank Reynolds 30 years ago, possibly making him Charlie's biological father.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: When Frank was with her, he would treat her like crap because "The woman prefers to be treated like crap. [He's] never seen anything like it." and says that sometimes it's too much even for ''[[LackOfEmpathy him]]''. Charlie later tries to break them up by setting her up with Mac's dad, informing her that he was in prison. And it works.
* HookerWithAHeartOfGold: Played With. In the ChristmasEpisode, she's revealed to have been a prostitute and is one of the nicer members of the cast. But she also has severe mental issues and is a xenophobe.
* NervousWreck: She's very timid and shy. "I don't want a dog to eat my face off, Charlie!"
* OddFriendship: With Mrs. Mac, after some initial difficulties that involved Mrs. Mac strangling her a tad.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain[=/=]PoliticallyIncorrectHero: She bonds with Mrs. Mac over their mutual racism.
* ReallyGetsAround: Aside from the dozens of men she had sex with while being a prostitute, she's slept with both Frank and Luther.
* ShrinkingViolet: Older, but has severe nervous issues.
* StepfordSmiler: She has a tendency to admit depressing things in a cheerful tone.
* SuperOCD: She does things, such as flicking light swithes on and off, [[RuleOfThree three times]] because she thinks that if she doesn't, Charlie will die. She gave Charlie vaccinations every month and she and him would also wear bubble boy suits every flu season.

!!Uncle Jack Kelly
->'''Played By:''' Andrew Friedman

Charlie's uncle (the brother of Charlie's mother Bonnie) and a lawyer.
* AmoralAttorney: Jack's a lawyer though a rather bad one. It's obvious to the audience that something's not quite right with him, every time he appears on screen.
* BlackComedyRape: It's strongly implied that he molested Charlie or exposed himself to him or ''something'' that has caused Charlie to be extremely wary of him.
* CompensatingForSomething: His self-consciousness over his small hands causes him to edit in different, larger hands in all pictures of him, while his public access TV show uses creative camera angles to avoid showing his hands as much as possible.
* CreepyUncle: Uncle Jack is a deeply unsettling man. He's always touching people, he's obsessed with hands (he feels his own hands are too small) and he is all but outright stated to be a pedophile interested in young boys. When Dee declares she's kidnapped some kids (by accident) he immediately leaps into action with solid creepy advice.
* {{Shotacon}}: Heavily implied.

!Mac's Family

!!Luther [[spoiler:[=McDonald=]]]
->'''Played By:''' Gregory Scott Cummins

Mac's father, a convicted felon. He is tall and has numerous tattoos and a generally intimidating appearance because he never blinks. Possibly due to his past imprisonment and intimidating presence, he is one of the few people the Gang does not immediately try to manipulate or exploit.
* TheAtoner: Once released from prison, he goes to apologize to all the people he's wronged.
* BeardOfEvil: Subverted. In a flashback where he ''doesn't'' have the beard, he's more unambiguously evil.
* DeathGlare: His default expression. He himself remarks, "I don't blink."
* DepravedBisexual: According to Bonnie, he's bisexual and had a sexual relationship with a certain Eduardo Sanchez.
* IcyBlueEyes: As Charlie points out to Bonnie.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He has a shady past and is quite blunt and rude, but he genuinely loves his son. In "Dennis Looks Like A Registered Sex Offender," Mac calls the cops on him because he thinks his father is on a murder spree that will end with him and Charlie. It turns out that [[spoiler: Luther actually got arrested for violating his parole: he's not supposed to leave the state, but had purchased plane tickets for himself, Mac and Charlie to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame]]. Even after getting out of jail again, [[spoiler:he writes Mac a letter saying he still loves him and that he's trying to learn to forgive him.]]
* TattooedCrook: He has quite a few tattoos.

[[folder:Mrs Mac]]
!!Mrs. "Mac" [[spoiler:[=McDonald=]]]
->'''Played By:''' Sandy Martin

Mac's mom. She is usually seen smoking and watching television on the front porch of her home. She is extremely apathetic, demonstrated by her falling asleep at her son's "funeral" with a portable TV on her lap and remaining the same as usual when Luther is out on parole, and she often communicates with minimal words and unenthused grunts, which Mac serves as translator for.
* BerserkButton: Being woken up, as Mrs Kelly found out to her detriment.
* {{Gonk}}: Probably as a result of a lifetime of bad habits like smoking and drinking.
* HiddenDepths: She's very handy and good at fixing things.
* MustHaveNicotine: She's literally ''never'' seen without a cigarette in her mouth.
* OddFriendship: With Bonnie Kelly, after some initial difficulties that involved Mrs. Mac strangling her a tad.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: She bonds with Bonnie Kelly over their mutual racism.
* TheUnintelligible: Much of the time she communicates in grunts and coughs which Mac then translates.

[[folder: Country Mac]]
!!Country Mac
->'''Played By:''' Sean William Scott

* TheAlcoholic: The gang notes he always he has a beer in his hand. [[spoiler:This later causes him to die abruptly.]]
* {{Badass}}: Lampshaded in "Mac Day". Everyone in the Gang except for Mac thinks Country Mac is bad ass and will comment on it every now and then, while Mac insists he's just reckless.
* BadassGay: Everyone in the Gang except Mac finds his genuine {{Bad Ass}}ness and being open about being gay to be very refreshing over Mac [[MilesGloriosus believing he's the former with little reason]] and [[ArmouredClosetGay loudly condemning the latter in spite of himself]].
* CountryCousin: He's nick-named "Country Mac" because he's Mac's cousin from the countryside.
* DeathByFallingOver: He dies from his motorcycle falling over at low speed.
* DroppedABridgeOnHim: [[spoiler:He falls off his motorcycle and dies.]]
* {{Foil}}: To his cousin, Mac. He is reckless, tough, confident but not [[SmallNameBigEgo cocky]], religious but tolerant, and open about his sexuality.
* GoodCounterpart: He's basically what Mac ould be if he actually got his act together and made something of himself.
* ImprovisedWeapon: When a black-belt knocks out his cousin, he uses his shirt to strangle him.
* ManlyGay[=/=]StraightGay: He admits he's at the bodybuilding competition to pick up some bodybuilders.
* MrFanservice: He's good looking and we get to see him shirtless.
* OnlyKnownByHisNickName: We never get to know his actual name.

!The [=McPoyle=] Clan

[[folder:In General]]
* BigOlUnibrow: All the family members have one.
* BrotherSisterIncest: And brother-brother incest.
* CommutingOnABus: While heavily featured in the earlier seasons, the characters were phased out due to the actors playing the twins landing work on other shows. Currently, they appear once every couple of seasons.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: They're a very close family, sometimes [[VillainousIncest a little too close]].
* MassiveNumberedSiblings: In the football episode, many many siblings are shown together.
* TrademarkFavouriteFood: Milk. They always drink lukewarm milk...they drink it instead of beer, have it instead of punch at a wedding and use it on their wounds.
* VillainousIncest: It is actually family tradition to sleep with and marry off other family members to prevent others from tainting their gene pool. Liam however convinces Ryan that after years of incest, it won't be them getting their gene pool tainted by others, but them tainting the gene pool of other families.

!!Papa [=McPoyle=]
->'''Played By:''' Creator/GuillermoDelToro

* EatsBabies: In his ramblings, he mentions that every [=McPoyle=] springs "fully formed" from his loins, and he eats them so they don't eat him first.
* EvilOldFolks: he's the [[EvilCounterpart [=McPoyle=] counterpart]] to Frank, as in simultaneously old and evil.
* ThePatriarch: Papa is the main authority behind the [=McPoyle=] family. He's even played by ''Guillermo del Toro''!

[[folder:Liam & Ryan]]
!!Liam & Ryan [=McPoyle=]
->'''Played By:''' Jimmi Simpson & Nate Mooney

Creepy former elementary-school classmates of Mac and Charlie.
* BigNo: Liam, the hammier of the twins, who often exclaims a massive no in conjunction with SuddenlyShouting.
* CreepyTwins: Who sleep with each other.
* TheDitz: Ryan. When Liam commands him to stab someone, he stabs ''Liam''.
* EyeScream: Liam loses an eye during "The Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Massacre." He now uses a flesh-colored patch that is very off-putting. When the Gang tells him how [[NightmareFuel disturbing]] it looks, [[ComicallyMissingThePoint he draws a cartoon eye on it.]]
* FalseRapeAccusation: When they are first introduced, they are accusing their old gym coach of molestation because they hated his guts. Charlie rats them out.
* {{Jerkass}}: They're both creepy and more than a little stand-offish.
* SuddenlyShouting: Liam has a tendency to do this.
* ThoseTwoBadGuys: Being brothers with a creepily close relationship, they're always seen together.
* {{Twincest}}: A pair of fraternal male twins who are sexually involved.

!!Margaret [=McPoyle=]
->'''Played By:''' Thesy Surface

* AlliterativeName: '''M'''argaret '''M'''cPoyle.
* GirlishPigtails: Low pigtail braids.
* {{Gonk}}: She has a uni-brow and a masculine-looking face.
* TheSpeechless: She is a deaf-mute.

!!Doyle [=McPoyle=]
->'''Played By:''' Bob Rusch

* ICouldaBeenAContender: He had a pretty promising future in football, but it's brought to a halt by the Gang.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Downplayed and lampshaded. He doesn't look exactly like his relatives. However once he says his name is "Doyle [=McPoyle=]", Mac and Dennis start to notice some similarities.

!Other Characters

[[folder:The Waitress]]
!!The Waitress
->'''Played By:''' Mary Elizabeth Ellis

The object of Charlie's affections who initially works at a coffee shop near Paddy's.
* TheAlcoholic: She claims to have a drinking problem. She seems to have it in check, but the few times she slips up, she ''really'' goes overboard.
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Despite knowing what a scumbag Dennis is, there are times where she ignores all common sense and still finds herself pining for him. She always winds up coming to regret it.
* BreakTheCutie: Thanks to the GambitPileup in "Mac Bangs Dennis' Mom".
* CharacterizationMarchesOn: Much like Dee, the Waitress use to be the OnlySaneMan to the gang's antics. Then she developed an obsessive crush on Dennis, started drinking again, and became more and more of a ButtMonkey.
* TheChewToy: The Waitress tends to be easily manipulated because of her one-sided crush on Dennis.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Everyone calls her "the Waitress," even her stalker Charlie and the guy she was engaged to.
* FromBadToWorse: Employed much more subtly than with Cricket. As she continues to appear her living situation gets substantially worse, with her falling into alcoholism and drug addiction. By her latest appearance she is living in a women's shelter. Interestingly, she is one of the few characters whose declining life ''can't'' be directly tied back to the Gang, and it's suggested her problems are mostly her own.
* LoveMartyr: For Dennis, but much less pronounced than Cricket is for Dee. She is extremely forgiving of all of the horrible things he's done to her in the past if it means starting a relationship with him.
* NoNameGiven: Lampshaded on a few occasions. At the high school reunion it is implied her name is Nikki Potnick, but WordOfGod has [[RedHerring confirmed it isn't]].
* TheNondescript: No one can remember her name, and no one except Charlie remembers her from high school, to the point of the school forgetting to make her a name tag for the reunion.
* NotSoAboveItAll: Can be just as rude and cynical as the Gang at times. "Flowers for Charlie" also suggested she is as vapid and shallow as them too.
* ReallyGetsAround: Which makes it all the more ironic that Charlie still hasn't had sex with her.
* SixthRanger: Plays a completely unwilling one frequently.
* SleepsWithEveryoneButYou: The Waitress will sleep with just about anybody except for Charlie.
* StalkerWithACrush: A recipient of this from Charlie. Sometimes acts this way herself, to Dennis.
* WithFriendsLikeThese: Dee occasionally claims that she's her best friend. Not only does the Waitress hate her guts, but Dee only spends time with her when she has something to gain.

[[folder:Rickety Cricket]]
!!Matthew "Rickety Cricket" Mara
->'''Played By:''' David Hornsby

A Roman Catholic priest who becomes defrocked, destitute, abducted, assaulted (both non-sexually and sexually), threatened, hunted, severely injured and addicted to cocaine all directly or indirectly resulting from the influence or action of Dee, Dennis, Charlie and Mac, who are his former high school classmates. As a boy he suffered from a medical condition that required the use of very conspicuous complex leg braces which inspired the pejorative nickname "Rickety Cricket".
* AlliterativeName: Though no one calls him Matthew Mara. His nickname almost rhymes.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited: For Dee, although God knows why.
* BreakTheCutie: He goes from a clean-cut, mature, and successful priest to a crack-addicted street rat who has lost his mind. All thanks to Dee.
* BrokenStreak: Season 10 is the first time in the series where him appearing doesn't end with him getting injured or any worse off than before. That being said, he's already far past rock bottom and it's more than likely that he'll have suffered an off-screen injury by the time he returns in season 11.
* ButtMonkey: Poor Cricket has fallen to the very bottom of society's rung, and then a few rungs below that, thanks to the Gang.
* CardCarryingVillain: By the later seasons he's been completely corrupted, to the point where he gladly dresses like a terrorist and blinds the gang in a fight in the name of destroying America.
* CharacterDevelopment: While he's definitely become much, much worse after spending so much time with the Gang, he at least seems to have finally gotten over Dee.
* TheChewToy: Every season, he suffers from progressively worse injuries, from getting the side of his his throat slashed, to getting shot, to getting ''half his face burned off''.
* CrazyHomelessPeople: Began to fill the stereotype more and more as time went on. After that reached its peak, he has started to become more deranged and animalistic.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: The few times he physically confronts the Gang, he kicks their asses. He still always ends up getting screwed over though.
* DescentIntoAddiction: The Gang got him hooked on meth. While he no longer cares about Dee, the Gang can still manipulate him into helping them simply by offering him drugs or a beer.
* DoggedNiceGuy: He doesn't like Dennis, Mac and Charlie at all and only helps the Gang out to try and win Dee's heart. He seems to have ''finally'' gotten over this, as he acknowledges that she's a total bitch multiple times and no longer seems to care about her.
* FacialHorror: The first time we see him in Season 8, he has a scar over his eye, which he got from an off-screen incident that was, for once, entirely his fault. After [[ManOnFire his fate]] in "The Gang Squashes Their Beefs," he now looks like [[Franchise/BatMan Two-Face.]]
* FateWorseThanDeath: Every time you think he's going to be KilledOffForReal, he gets a severe injury instead.
* FriendlyEnemy: He's become so broken and used to the gang screwing him over that he's generally pretty nonchalant and even friendly with them in his later appearances, even cheering them on in "The Gang Goes on Family Fight".
* FromBadToWorse: No matter how low he has sunk, the gang always seems to manage to make his life even worse. At this point, expect every appearance to cost him a body part.
* GoodShepherd: ''Was'' this, until Dee managed to get him to renounce his faith and thus lose his job. He ended up on the streets and his life has only gotten worse from there.
* HeCleansUpNicely: He shows up to his high school reunion clean cut and mature, apparently having been let back into the priesthood. Even after all that had happened to him, he still looks quite handsome. [[spoiler: It turns out to have been a ruse, though.]] However, starting with Season 8, he has been getting [[NightmareFuel horrific]] injuries that he will probably never be able to recover from.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: While calling the Gang faces is probably going too far, Cricket swaps between their ally and enemy constantly, generally several times an episode.
* HumiliationConga: Has been in a perpetual one for most of his life, courtesy of the Gang.
* LoveMartyr: For Dee.
* MutilationConga: About half of his appearances end with him getting a new injury.
* NoAccountingForTaste: His crush on Dee remains despite innumerable amounts of evidence that she hates him and is a terrible person. Seems to have finally wised up to this, but by that point he's already lost his job, his house and his mind because of her.
* RunningGag: See TheChewToy and MutilationConga above.
* SanitySlippage: Goes from the OnlySaneMan in his first episode to one of the Gang's most deranged foes by his later appearances.
* ShaggyDogStory: He was relentlessly bullied for wearing leg braces as a teen before cleaning himself up and becoming a respected priest... after which he ends up losing his job and being put into a much, ''much'' worse situation than he was initially with no hope of recovery and, as a final insult, stuck in leg braces once again.
* SixthRanger/ SixthRangerTraitor: The Gang frequently ropes him into their schemes, but he's just as likely to betray them.
* TookALevelInJerkass: Gets worse and worse with each appearance, to the point where he sometimes makes ''the Gang'' look good in comparison.
* UnluckyChildhoodFriend: Again, for Dee.

!!Artemis Dubois
->'''Played By:''' Artemis Pebdani

Dee's friend from her acting classes who acts out a scene from Coyote Ugly. Artemis is overly serious about her craft and displays bizarre habits and outbursts. She is very open about her sexuality and often offers to perform in the nude, even when it is unnecessary. Recently, she was involved in a sexual relationship with Frank and the two shared a food fetish. She likes having sex with bacon bits in her hair because it "makes her feel like a cobb salad." She and Frank once had makeup sex in a dumpster behind Wendy's, where she incorporated a bun. She has openly proclaimed that she has a "bleached asshole".
* AffablyEvil: she is extraverted, friendly and personable, but also extremely selfish and scheming.
* TheAlcoholic: She usually can't remember how she spends her nights.
%%* DeadpanSnarker
* BiTheWay: According to the season 5 extra features, she's had multiple lesbian encounters.
* {{Fetish}}: Like Frank, she has a food fetish.
* TheHedonist: Artemis likes to have fun, whether it means banging in public or getting insanely high at a Halloween party.
* LargeHam: When she starts confessing her poor financial state, Dee can't tell if she's still doing some sort of performance.
* ReallyGetsAround: She introduces herself to men by telling them she has a bleached asshole, arguing that they're "going to find out anyway."
* SixthRanger: She's basically the only recurring character to have any sort of positive relationship with the gang, and occasionally joins in on their schemes in some capacity.

[[folder:The Lawyer]]
!!The Lawyer
->'''Played By:''' Brian Unger

An attorney who has had several run-ins with the Gang. Like the Waitress, his real name is unknown.
* TheAce: Much more capable than the Gang and outwits them with ease during each conflict.
* AmoralAttorney: Averted. He starts out as a decent person until he's had enough of the gang duct-taping his secretary and constantly bothering him. In fact, he seems weirded out by Dennis suggesting that he could "[[InsistentTerminology make love]]" to his soon-to-be-ex-wife while she sleeps as an act of ''good faith''.
* AscendedExtra: Originally, he was just the lawyer assigned to read Dennis and Dee's mother's will. Since then, he has frequently been at odds with the Gang in unrelated legal situations.
* CrazyPrepared: Makes 50 copies of the contract he gives the gang knowing they'd destroy them. Also keeps a gun in his desk in case someone busts in wanting to kill him.
* DeadpanSnarker: He always has a witty put-down.
-->'''Lawyer:''' It is just so nice to see you again, Mr. Reynolds, I see that you're still...just horrible.

-->'''Lawyer:''' You know, I don't think I'm going to do anything close to that and I can clearly see you know nothing about the law. Seems like you have a tenuous grasp on the English language in general.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Like the Waitress, no one ever calls him by name and is only known by his job title. Justified because the gang has fewer interactions with him.
* GuileHero: A rare HeroAntagonist version.
* HeroAntagonist: AmoralAttorney aspects aside, he does work within the law and try to genuinely protect his clients from the Gang's insanity, and does so without being pulled down to the Gang's level like most of their enemies. Probably the closest thing to a hero the show's got.
* ItAmusedMe: The only reason the Lawyer got involved in Dennis' divorce was to spitefully give him a hard time.
* {{Jerkass}}: He says some very nasty put downs pretty much every time he appears. Completely justified though, since we only ever see him when he's dealing with the Gang, who he immediately recognizes as a group of depraved morons.
* ManipulativeBastard: He got the gang to unknowingly sign a contract that also acts as a restraining order and gives him all the profits from their merchandise and makes about 50 copies, knowing that Mac will just eat the original.
* NoNameGiven: He's yet to be given a name.
* OnlySaneMan: The only recurring character who is intelligent, rational and successful in life.
* YouHaveToHaveJews: Averted, but for his own racist reasons Frank believes him to be Jewish by virtue of being a lawyer.

[[folder:Ben Smith]]
!!Ben Smith
->'''Played By:''' Travis Schuldt

Dee's online chat buddy "soldier of fortune". He served as an American soldier in Iraq.
* TheDitz: He's shown to be somewhat of a lovable idiot.
* ExtremeDoormat: He was so nice and innocent that Dee would tell him to sit and wait for her in the car, in blistering 100 degree weather, for hours on end, with the windows rolled up simply because she didn't mention to roll down the windows. Though he does eventually leave her when it's made clear that she's "a mean person."
* NiceGuy: Ben is just a sweet guy who's very considerate and pleasant to be around. He was very nice to Dee until he realized she was a jerk. At one point, he offered to help her when she had some trouble walking after falling down.

[[folder:Bill Ponderosa]]
!!Bill Ponderosa
->'''Played By:''' Lance Barber

Dee's high school crush and the brother of Dennis's high school girlfriend Maureen Ponderosa. He has put on a lot of weight since high school.
* AbusiveParents: Flat out told his son that he doesn't love him, and told his daughter she "was too fat to be a slut", neither of them seem older than 12.
* AffablyEvil: Bill is a very jovial fellow who's always willing to share his drugs with people...who don't want his drugs. Bill cheats on his wife, frequents prostitutes, snorts up whatever drug is closest and lies to women that he had a vasectomy to avoid wearing a condom. [[EvenEvilHasStandards Even the Gang find him super-shady.]]
* FatBastard: Was in pretty good shape in high school, but has gained a lot of weight since. Plus he's a bastard.
* FunctionalAddict: He appears pretty well-adjusted upon first meeting him, and then he starts casually using drugs.
* FutureLoser: Was apparently rather handsome and popular in high school, but is currently an overweight alcoholic and one of the few people comparable to the gang in sheer awfulness.
* TheHedonist: Gluttony, lust, drugs. Yep, sounds about right.
* SuicideAsComedy: Although he's yet to go through with it, he was seriously threatening to kill himself at the thought of being the father to Dee's baby and has attempted to drink himself to death.
* YourCheatingHeart: Cheats on his wife with several prostitutes [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg and Dee]].

[[folder:Maureen Ponderosa]]
!!Maureen Ponderosa
->'''Played By:''' Catherine Reitman

Dennis's high school girlfriend and ex-wife, and the sister of Bill Ponderosa.
* AbhorrentAdmirer: When she's not tormenting Dennis she's usually trying to get back together with him.
* CrazyCatLady: Literally. Her obsession with cats has evolved to a point where she has had multiple surgeries to make herself look like one.
* FourthDateMarriage: Played With. She and Dennis knew each other in high school. They met up again, now older. They have one more date before getting married. Dennis falls out of love with her the next day.
* NotSoDifferent: At first she seems like a perfectly sweet girl, as opposed to her evil brother. However, she gradually becomes just as unhinged as he is albeit in a different way.
* PettingZooPeople: The running gag of her using Dennis' alimony payments for unnecessary cosmetic surgeries ends up with her trying to turn herself into a cat.
* PsychoExGirlfriend: A classic example to Dennis, though in this case she's his ex-wife.
* SanitySlippage: It's unclear what began to send her down the path of insanity, but she's firmly down that yellow brick crazy road. It's likely it began with her discovery of her father's corpse after he committed suicide, and from there on she grows increasingly unhinged.
* {{Yandere}}: Randomly switches between loving and hating Dennis.

->'''Played By:''' Brittany Daniel

A trans woman who was dating Mac. She is attractive but displays an obvious bulge in her pants. She keeps Mac interested in her with promises of undergoing sexual reassignment surgery and with constant flattery of Mac's physique.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: Has yet to have her life ruined by the gang...so far.
* EasySexChange: Possibly averted she most likely kept saying she would lose her penis 'soon' due to how expensive it is. She also disappeared between the end of season 3 and the season 6 premiere, so the time frame isn't quite as compressed as it usually is in TV.
* EvenTheGirlsWantHer: Dee comments on her impressive implants in her first appearance.
* HappilyMarried: Eventually, to Nick, following the completion of her surgery.
* NiceGirl: Carmen is very sweet and kind.
* {{Transsexual}}: Male-to-female. She spends much of the series still in transition.

[[folder:Brian [=McIntyre=]]]
!!Brian [=McIntyre=]
->'''Played By:''' Dave Foley

The high school principal who hires Dee as a substitute teacher and Charlie as a janitor.
* ButtMonkey: The few times the gang shows up to his school, there's always trouble. Especially the second time.

->'''Played By:''' T.J. Hoban

One of the male models vying for the spot on Paddy's Pub's billboard.
* BrainlessBeauty: He's a male model. But he did things like eat a whole bowl of cockroaches ''before'' Frank told him to, just so he can be on a billboard (not so he could get paid, he just wanted to be on a billboard).
* {{Determinator}}: He wants to win the billboard competition very badly.
* {{Hunk}}: Rex is very muscular. The gang describe him rather accurately as a beefcake.
* ShirtlessScene: Well, he ''is'' a model.

[[folder:Duncan & Z]]
!!Duncan & Z
->'''Played By:''' David Gueriera & Creator/ChadLColeman

Frank's bizarre friends that he met under a bridge.
* AffablyEvil: Z, who's quite friendly and cool. Not so much with Duncan.
* BeardOfEvil: Both of them have beards, and both are criminals who are seen beating the hell out of a couple who destroyed their wall (which is just a plastic sheet held up).
* BlackBestFriend: Z to Duncan.
* ButNotTooBlack: Almost said word for word by Mac. When they try to win an award they invite Z to try and add some diversity but Mac says that he's too black and is just going to intimidate the judges.
* HyperAwareness: Somehow, Z is able to determine that Dee is pregnant before she's really showing.
* NiceHat: Z is often seen wearing a nifty beanie hat.
* ScaryBlackMan: Z, as played by the intimidatingly large Chad Coleman.
* ThoseTwoBadGuys: They tend to appear together, and are very unsavoury criminals.
* ToxicFriendInfluence: Dennis considers them this for Frank, although Frank doesn't really need anyone's influence to be awful.

!!Peter Schmidt AKA Schmitty
->'''Played By:''' Jason Sudeikis

A former member of the gang back in high school. Mac and Dennis kicked Schmitty out of the gang (and a moving car) to make Charlie happy. Charlie and Schmitty used to be roommates and Charlie always feels upstaged by Schmitty.
* TheAce: Schmitty is good at pretty much everything, though this is really only in comparison to the gang.
* NiceGuy: He was the most normal and well-adjusted out of the gang. Kind of makes you wonder why he was friends with them in high school.
* OnlySaneMan: For the short time he returns to the Gang. He's off-put by their strange habits and rituals which Schmitty has long grown out of, even telling them how weird everything they do is.
* TokenGoodTeammate: All too briefly, but Schmidty is friendly, personable, inclusive and doesn't mind when the gang tries to push him out of a moving car! (''Twice''!) Needless to say, he is one of few decent people in the history of the show.
* UnknownRival: Charlie hates him and considers him a threat to his position within the team, but Schmitty isn't too aware of Charlie's feelings.

[[folder:Fatty Magoo]]
!!Ingrid "Fatty Magoo" Nelson
->'''Played By:''' Creator/JudyGreer

A high school friend of Dee's. In High School Dee wore a back brace and was dubbed the Aluminum Monster while Ingrid was morbidly obese and was given the name Fatty Magoo.
* EarnYourHappyEnding: She was highly unpopular in her teens, but became gorgeous and successful in adulthood. She's also one of the few people in the series who haven't had their lives ruined by the Gang (yet).
* FormerlyFat: The reason her nickname in high school was "Fatty Magoo."
* GoodCounterpart: She's similar to Dee in that they were both mocked in high school only to become attractive after graduating, but rather than stew in rage over her awful high school experience and cling to the past, she chooses to move on and become a happy and successful person.
* {{Meganekko}}: Ingrid is a very attractive woman who wears glasses in her first appearance. Strangely she does not wear them to the high school reunion.
* NiceGirl: She maintains a cheerful disposition. When Dee told her that she herself was gonna grow up to be an actress to rub it in her face, it instead inspired Ingrid to run her own clothing store. And she personally thanks Dee for this upon seeing her in her store.
* ShesAllGrownUp: A fat, shy and awkward girl in high school, she is now thin, confident, mature and successful as an adult. This is highlighted in "The Aluminum Monster vs. Fatty Magoo", where, though both she and Dee have become outwardly more attractive since high school, it is her mental maturation that is the true secret to her success.

->'''Played By:''' David Zdunich

* RecurringExtra: He's a barfly who shows up in the background multiple times.

[[folder:Psycho Pete]]
!!Peter AKA Psycho Pete
->'''Played By:''' Dominic Burgess

A former member of the Gang back in high school. The Gang saw him as a harmless {{Cloudcuckoolander}}, but Ingrid Nelson tells them [[AxeCrazy that he is in an asylum for cutting up his family and eating them for Christmas Dinner.]] [[spoiler: It's later revealed in "Psycho Pete Returns" that he actually didn't; he was institutionalized to cope with his social anxiety and depression, and the rumors about him were mostly spread by the Gang.]]
* AxCrazy: [[spoiler:subverted; it turns out that he was institutionalized for anxiety and suicicdal tendencies, and was "more of a danger to [him]self" than others"]].
* TheDreaded: Mentioning his name is enought to instill a sense of fear into the listeners. He finally appears in season 10 [[spoiler:and turns out to be a GentleGiant undeserving of his terrible reputation]].
* GentleGiant: [[spoiler:When he finally appears in season 10 he turns out to be a large, timid man.]]
* HeWhoMustNotBeSeen: Until "Psycho Pete Returns" in Season 10, he's only ever mentioned in rumors and horror stories.
* ImAHumanitarian: He murdered and ate his family. [[spoiler:Except he didn't - this was just a rumor blown out of a proportion]].
%%* InsanityDefense
* JustJokingJustification: The Gang naturally assumes this after Ingrid tells them he threatened to blow up the school, but she tells them that he is legitimately AxCrazy.
* KarmaHoudini: He got the InsanityDefense, and he was able to threaten to blow up the school, forcing Ingrid to hire extra security. In "Psycho Pete Returns," he gets set free after his institute shuts down. [[spoiler:It's later revealed that he never actually ate his family, it's just one of the many rumors that were started in response to the bad reputation the gang got him.]]
* NiceGuy: [[spoiler:In reality he's a rather even-tempered man who's struggled with mental health problems, as opposed to the crazed killer the Gang made up.]]
* NotMakingThisUpDisclaimer / SincerityMode: Ingrid tells them that he is literally AxeCrazy, and that he literally ate his entire family for Christmas Dinner
* KnightOfCerebus: [[spoiler:Subverted. after all the build up of him as a monster, it turns out he's a soft-spoken GentleGiant, who hung out with the Gang because they were accepting of him.]]
* TheReveal: [[spoiler:He never killed or ate anyone, the worst he ever did was yelling at some babies and making stray cats and dogs fight, which he did for the gang's attention.]]

!The Nightman Cometh

[[folder:Little Boy/Dayman]]
!!Little Boy[=/=]The Dayman
->'''Played By:''' Dennis Reynolds

* AndShowItToYou: How he disposes of the Nightman, ripping the beast's heart out and showing it to him.
* {{Badass}}: He defeats the Nightman and the Troll in combat.
* BraggingThemeTune: "Dayman."
* ComingOfAgeStory: The play chronicles his rise from a scared little boy to an all powerful hero.
* TheDogBitesBack: He was forced into slavery by Antonio the Troll and later fights back, killing his master and later his abuser, the Nightman.
* GoodCounterpart: As the Dayman, to the Nightman.
* GoodIsNotSoft: He defeats both of his adversaries in incredibly brutal ways.
* TheHero: He saves the Coffee Shop Princess.
* IncestuousCasting: In-Universe Siblings Dennis and Dee play the Little Boy and the Coffee Shop Princess, who are each other's romantic interests. Charlie attempted to stay away from this initially by casting Mac as the Little Boy, but Dennis' insistence in playing the part leads to some very awkward and unbelievable onscreen romance.
* KidHero: Subverted. Despite his appearance, name, mannerisms and the way other characters refer to him, he is meant to be a young man. Charlie's complete inability to convey this and the heavy pedophilic undertones that stem from it as a result become a running gag.
* ManChild: Charlie describes him as "a young man with the spirit of a boy", his costume consists of blue footie pajamas and his room resembles a child's.
* ThisIsForEmphasisBitch: When he kills the Troll.
-->''"You know what it is, bitch."''
* TookALevelInBadass: Goes from a defenseless little boy to the invincible Dayman by the end of the play.

[[folder:Coffee Shop Princess]]
!!Coffee Shop Princess
->'''Played By:''' Deandra Reynolds

* PinkMeansFeminine[=/=]PrincessesPreferPink: She wears a pink dress.
* {{Shotacon}}: An unintentional example. She's deeply in love with the little boy, who is meant to be a young man but is only ever referred to in ways that make him sound extremely young. Defied by Dee who's worried about people perceiving her as a pedophile because of her character.
* WriteWhoYouKnow: {{Invoked}}. Considering the Waitress works at a coffee shop, she's probably loosely based on her.

!!The Nightman
->'''Played By:''' Mac

* AnimalEyes: Cat eyes, specifically.
* AntagonistTitle: Of ''The Nightman Cometh''.
* {{Badass}}: Intended to be this by both Charlie and Mac, who utterly fail at portraying him as one.
* BigBad: He's the main antagonist of the play.
* DarkIsEvil: He dresses in all black and is named "Nightman".
* InformedAbility: For the embodiment of all evil, it's Antonio who does all of the actual work. The extent of the Nightman's role is paying Antonio and (unsuccessfully) fighting the Dayman.
* LargeHam: Mac plays him this way. It actually leads him to become an audience favorite, but not for the reasons Mac intended (he wanted to come off as a scary badass, not a goofy LargeHam).
* SssssnakeTalk: He speaks with a lot of hisses.
* {{Shotacon}}: Once again, unintentionally. He's supposed to be something of a grim reaper type figure after the Little Boy's soul, but Charlie's writing, Frank's continuous pronunciation of "soul" sounding like "hole" and Mac's attraction to Dennis all make him come off as a rapist.
* TitleCharacter: Of "The Nightman Cometh," of course.

[[folder:Antonio the Troll]]
!!Antonio the Troll
->'''Played By:''' Frank Reynolds

* BiggerBad: Antonio is the one who the Nightman pays for the Boy's soul/hole, and keeps the Boy in servitude. The play makes it clear that he is a secondary party who doesn't work for the Nightman.
* FatBastard: He's played by Frank Reynolds who is fairly overweight himself.
* {{Greed}}: If you want to get into that Boy's soul/hole, there's a toll to pay. A toll enacted by a troll, a troll toll, if you will.
* KarmicDeath: He's killed by his own slave.
* LargeHam: Due to being played by Frank.
* VillainSong: "Troll Toll."

!Lethal Weapon Series

!!Martin Riggs
->'''Played By:''' Dennis Reynolds & Mac

* AmbiguouslyGay[=/=][[AmbiguouslyBi Bi]]: In ''Lethal Weapon 6'', there is some unintentional ShipTease between Riggs and Murtaugh [[AuthorAppeal because of Mac]]. So he decided to add a scene with them at a strip club to make them appear straight, but all it did was make [[ArmouredClosetGay them look insecure about their sexuality]]. He did marry Murtaugh's daughter, but it's possible she was [[TheBeard his beard]].
* AwesomeAussie: Only when Dennis plays him.
* TheHero: Though he steps down from the spotlight a bit in Lethal Weapon 6.
* MrExposition: When Mac plays him, he makes sure to go into extended detail about every single event occurring around him because, in Mac's words, "nobody ever knows what's happening in movies."
* TheOtherDarrin: [[invoked]] A comedic example. Mac and Dennis switch parts abruptly in the middle of both movies.

!!Roger Murtaugh
->'''Played By:''' Dennis Reynolds & Mac

* ADayInTheLimelight: Lethal Weapon 6 focuses on him a bit more than Riggs.
* AmbiguouslyGay/[[AmbiguouslyBi Bi]]: In ''Lethal Weapon 6'', to the point where the movie was confused for gay porn. He ''does'' have a daughter though, and ''did'' have a wife. So he's either bi or used his family as TheBeard.
* {{Blackface}}: Mac uses this trope when playing Murtaugh. Averted with Dennis, who finds it racist.
* CatchPhrase: "I'm gettin' too old for this shit!"
* CoolOldGuy: He's supposed to be this, though Mac and Dennis are clearly the same age.
* TheLancer: Though he steps up to the spotlight more in Lethal Weapon 6.
* TheOtherDarrin: [[invoked]] PlayedForLaughs. Mac and Dennis randomly switch between playing Murtaugh and Riggs.

!!Chief Lazurus
->'''Played By:''' Frank Reynolds

* BadBoss: He uses his own goon as a human shield.
* BackFromTheDead: He's resurrected in Lethal Weapon 6 by a Native-American witch.
* BigBad: Of ''Lethal Weapon 5'' and ''6''.
* {{Brownface}}: Native American Chief Lazurus is played by caucasian Frank Reynolds.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Of his casino. He also owns an umbrella factory, likely a planned safe haven for after his apocalyptic rain dance.
* JabbaTableManners: As seen when he meets with Riggs & Murtaugh for the first time.
* LargeHam: Frank is really enjoying playing a villain. Lazurus shouts, snarls, froths and groans.
* MeaningfulName: Chief Lazurus comes back from the dead.
* NativeAmericanCasino: He's a Native American who owns a casino.
* ReallyGetsAround: As one of the actor's stipulations, Chief Lazurus gets lots of ass.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: After being brought back from the dead, he sets out on a mission of revenge and to do a rain dance that will drown the city.

[[folder:Police Chief]]
!!Police Chief
->'''Played By:''' Charlie Kelly

* BadBadActing: Charlie's acting in ''Lethal Weapon 5'' is so terrible that Dennis and Mac seriously consider cutting him out completely.
* DaChief: Of the Police Department.
* MrExposition: He tells the two detectives the basic plot of the movie.
-->''"Turns out another person just died from tainted tap water. Turns out someone taint--someone tapped the tainted water supply. (pointing at Murtaugh) The person who just died was your wife."''
