!!Capell
[[quoteright:204:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iu-capellcropped_2095.jpg]]

The main character of ''VideoGame/InfiniteUndiscovery.'' Capell was raised in a troupe of bards and as such is very skilled at playing the flute. At the beginning of the game he has been captured and thrown in prison, though he has no idea why. Shortly after, he gets saved by Aya. It's soon revealed that he looks exactly like the leader of the [[LaResistance Liberation Force.]]
----
* AccidentalPervert: Kind of. He accidentally cops a feel on Vic at one point.
* ActionSurvivor: At the very beginning of the game; he gets plunged into a sweeping conflict that he really wants nothing to do with, but manages to hold his own anyway.
* BadassNormal: Being Unblessed means he can't use magic or get empowered by lunar rain like the others, he is still a great fighter and use enchantment to boost him and his friends to compensate.
* TheBard: Effectively he is this at the start, he plays flute to reveal magic, his special attacks are music based and he does have charisma. Hilariously enough, his music is good. The name's of his songs less so.
* BerserkButton: Insulting or mocking Unblessed is enough to get him angry.
* CharacterDevelopment: While not as obvious as Edward's, Capell stops thinking in terms of survival as the story progresses. At one point at the beginning of the game he says that the Liberation Force is foolish for running into fights, even if it's because they want to do the right thing; when they reach Port Zala, he runs off to break the chain with the same kind of reckless attitude that he had berated earlier.
* ChickMagnet: By the end of the game, Aya and Faina are in love with him, and Michelle, Vic and Komachi seem to have a thing for him. Though, at least in Michelle and Komachi's cases, this is because he looks like Sigmund. [[LampshadeHanging And one of his traits is 'Lady's Man.']]
* CursedWithAwesome: Being an Unblessed allows him to be the only one in the party to see Vermiforms.
* DespairEventHorizon: After [[spoiler:Faina and Leif]] get killed by Vermiforms, Capell [[HeroicBSOD hits rock bottom.]] This is even reflected in the other party members' descriptions, which are all from his point of view.
* GameplayAndStorySegregation: He says he's not any good at fighting, but that doesn't stop him from holding his own and having a few special attacks at the very beginning of the game.
* GenerationXerox: [[spoiler:The reason why he looks like so much like Sigmund--they're ''father and son''.]]
* GiverOfLameNames: Capell keeps giving his very pretty songs terrible names, like "The Slovenly Serenade" or "Fleeing Dog Rhapsody". Eventually, Aya just decides she doesn't want to know.
* TheHero: Played with. He's initially reluctant to get involved in the Liberation's affairs, but as the story progresses, he starts becoming more and more proactive. [[spoiler:By the time Sigmund is killed,]] Capell more or less fully adopts the role.
* HeroicBSOD: Suffice to say, Capell does not take [[spoiler:Faina and Leif]]'s deaths well. It says a lot when, after their death, he becomes more sullen and harsh, not to mention developing a deep resentment towards lunaglyphs and their users.
* HeroicSacrifice: He returns later, however.
* IdenticalStranger: Capell looks identical to Sigmund the Liberator, which unfortunately lands him in a lot of trouble. It even lands him in prison! [[spoiler:As it later turns out, Capell's resemblance to Sigmund is ''[[GenerationXerox not]]'' a coincidence.]]
* IdiotHero: Not an idiot so much as clueless and uninformed, though one could argue that the latter is due to reasons entirely out of his control. He also gets noticeably more world-weary during his travels and makes less ignorant comments toward the end of the game.
* MagicMusic: Aside from providing bonuses, Capell's music can even restore the sanity of someone being affected by Verniforms.
* TheMasquerade: [[spoiler:When Sigmund dies, Capell is encouraged to pose as him in order to keep people's hopes alive.]]
* MistakenIdentity: On account of being an IdenticalStranger to Sigmund. It's the whole reason he got thrown into prison in the first place. [[spoiler:It later becomes TheMasquerade as Capell ''has'' to present himself as Sigmund after the latter's death in order to keep people's spirits up]].
* NiceGuy: He's one of the nicest people you'll find. [[spoiler:Although he still acts kindly at times, his personality otherwise takes a dark turn after Faina and Leif are killed by Verniforms.]]
* NonActionGuy: At first. He claims he's better with a flute than a sword, though it doesn't take long for GameplayAndStorySegregation to take effect.
* OnlySaneMan: He's usually the one who's most exasperated by some of the antics the more childish members of his party gets up to.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: They look orange-brown in artworks, but in game they're red. Thankfully for the heroes, he's only a threat to his enemies, [[spoiler:though you'd be forgiven
* RedOniBlueOni: Despite his red clothes, [[SubvertedTrope he's the blue to Edward's red.]]
* TagalongKid: At first.

[[folder:Aya]]
!!Aya
[[quoteright:204:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iu-aya1cropped_4386.jpg]]

Capell's LoveInterest, Aya is a fiery and spirited girl who happens to be a princess. She first appears when she comes to save Capell from prison. However, she believed she was saving [[IdenticalStranger Lord]] [[RebelLeader Sigmund]]. Needless to say, she is very displeased when she finds out Capell is not who she thought he was. But she helps him out anyway.
----

* ActionGirl: The first thing she does is slit a guard's throat... while doing a back-flip off of him.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Especially at the end of the game.
%%* BadassAdorable
* BelligerentSexualTension: With Capell for most of the game. It's mostly one-sided, though.
* BridalCarry: Near the beginning of the game, she is injured and must be carried to safety in this manner.
* CutscenePowerToTheMax: She can never flip around on enemies the way she can in the opening cutscene. But she's still pretty badass.
* GreenEyedMonster: Usually when Faina's around Capell.
* HealerSignsOnEarly: She is the only non-mage to learn any sort of healing magic for precisely this reason.
* PlayingWithFire: Her glyph gives her fire power.
%%* RebelliousPrincess
%%* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething
%%* {{Tsundere}}
* UndyingLoyalty: To Sigmund. A testament to her loyalty has her sneak inside a prison to rescue Capell, who she initially believes is Sigmund due to their resemblance.
* WaifFu: In the opening cutscene.
%%* WellExcuseMePrincess
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She hates bugs/reptiles.

[[folder:Sigmund]]
!!Sigmund / [[spoiler:Volsung, King of Casandra]]
[[quoteright:204:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iu-sigmund1cropped_7307.jpg]]

Also known as [[RedBaron The Liberator]], Sigmund is the leader of the Liberation Force, dedicated to shattering the Chains. For unknown reasons, he bears a striking resemblance to Capell, who he is quick to take into the resistance.
----
* TheAce: Be it in swordplay or with a flute of his own, though the latter is rather surprising to some.
* BadassNormal: [[spoiler:He's later revealed to be an Unblessed, though this is later revealed to be a case of BroughtDownToBadass, as he did have a lunaglyph when he was Volsung. Upon its removal, he was reduced back to being an infant, though he still has some impressive sword skills.]]
* TheHero: More so than Capell, who at the time is reluctant to get involved and would much rather lead a simple life.
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:He dies defending Capell.]]
* IdenticalStranger: To Capell. It's even what leads to a case of MistakenIdentity as Capell is in prison when the game starts. [[spoiler:[[GenerationXerox The resemblance isn't a coincidence.]]]]
* LivingLegend: He's known far and wide across the land for his achievements. Chief among them is the power to ''destroy the Chains'', which was initially thought to be impossible.
* LukeIAmYourFather: Although he finds out after [[spoiler:Sigmund's death, Capell learns he is Sigmund's son; more specifically when the latter was King Voslung]].
* OlderThanTheyLook: [[spoiler:When he had his lunaglpyh removed as King Volsung, it reduced him back to being a child. As a result, he's an adult man in a younger man's body. Sigmund ''did'' have the option of returning to his actual age when he received a new lunaglyph, but would prefer taking the slower path and age normally.]]
* RebelLeader: He's the leader of the Liberation Force, which directly opposes the Dread Knight and his forces.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Has red eyes like Capell, and is one of the strongest warriors in the setting.
* RenaissanceMan: He is great leader, great warrior, great musician and while other party member are specialized in one crafting field like cooking or blacksmithing, Sigmund can do all of them at once.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: [[spoiler:Before he had his Lunaglyph removed and became an infant, Sigmund was once known as King Volsung.]]
* ShoutOut: Two-fold. The name "Sigmund" is derived from the character ''[[Literature/VolsungaSaga Sigurd]]'', [[spoiler:while his previous identity is all but named after the saga itself]].

[[folder:Edward]]
!!Edward
[[quoteright:204:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/iu-edwardcropped_6956.jpg]]

A member of the [[LaResistance Liberation Force]], Edward uses a [[{{BFS}} gigantic sword]] in battle. While Aya is merely a {{Tsundere}} towards Capell, Edward is an outright {{Jerkass}}, verbally berating him at every turn. Eventually, he gets turned into a vermiform, goes crazy, and destroys part of a city. Capell manages to cure Edward before the latter dies of excess power. Afterwards, he realizes how ridiculous he was behaving and decides to mellow out.

His voice actor is Creator/DavidVincent.
----
* AscendedFanboy: Of Sigmund, who saved his life.
* {{BFS}}: His weapon of choice.
* BreakTheHaughty: When his Power Increased Lunaglyph goes out of control and he is almost killed.
* CharacterDevelopment: Goes from trying to be a perfect leader and a replacement Sigmund who constantly bullies and belittles Capell, to being a generally okay guy who becomes Capell's best friend.
* GreenEyedMonster: He becomes extremely jealous of Capell when he sees Sigmund taking a shine to him, especially when he learns that, like Sigmund, Capell can also destroy the Chains.
* HotBlooded: He is really excited about the adventure.
* {{Jerkass}}: Towards Capell until his BreakTheHaughty moment.
* TheLancer: When he eventually accepts Capell as the leader of the group.
* LargeHam: Due to either yelling all the time or saying things really, ''really'' dramatically. Notably, he stops doing this [[GameplayAndStorySegregation (outside of battle, anyway)]] after his CharacterDevelopment kicks in.
* PetTheDog: It's mentioned that he treats Rico and Rucha nicely.
** And he gains a bonus in battle if an ally falls.
* RedOniBlueOni: Despite his blue clothes, [[SubvertedTrope he's the red to Capell's blue.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: More so than Aya, as he is by far one of Sigmund's most staunch supporters. [[spoiler:Needless to say, he doesn't take Sigmund's death very well and initially refuses to accept Capell as the Liberation Force's new leader.]]

[[folder:Eugene]]
!!Eugene

Another member of the Liberation Force, Eugene has known Sigmund since they were both kids.

* BadassPreacher: Would you believe that he's really a priest?
%%* * BrainySpecs
* CantHoldHisLiquor: Gets malus from alcohol.
* DishingOutDirt: Eugene is the party's Earth magic specialist.
* TheMedic: Compared to Michelle, Eugene lacks the ultimate full-party heal, but does possess the ultimate revival spell.
* NeverSpeakIllOfTheDead: Played with. It's obvious he has great respect for Sigmund, but after the latter's death, Eugene starts to say how foolish and arrogant Sigmund was in life. He's basically the only one who talks about Sigmund as though he was a human.
* OlderSidekick: To Sigmund. He mentions in a rather obscure conversation that he's at least nine years older than Sigmund.

Unfortunately most examples of this can only be found when you connect to either him or certain other people... [[GuideDangIt and it's hard to know when and where these dialogues occur unless you have a guide.]]
** Specifically, during one connected conversation between Savio and Eugene, Savio goes on a long spiel about how to temper one's inner power and how not to let yourself overuse your lunaglyph... and then advertises his book. And then Capell and Eugene both respond with VisibleSilence.
* NotSoAboveItAll: He says as an Aristos he is unperturbed by the climate around him, when Capell notices pearls of sweat however Savio admits he is burning in his robes.

* FreudianExcuse: It's shown that, as a child, he was very jealous of the attention his mother heaped on the de-aged Sigmund. In the same scene, a familiar, evil-looking silhouette can be seen looming over him...
* LargeHam: For some bizarre reason, his voice actor seems to be channeling a very self-aware, parodic William Shatner. This leads to many stilted, oddly-enunciated line readings, but on the other hand makes him seem like he's not all there, which gives him an overly-theatrical MadScientist kind of vibe.
