The characters of ''VideoGame/HalfMinuteHero'' for the PSP, its Xbox Live and PC port ''Super Mega Neo Climax'', and the sequel ''The Second Coming''. Thankfully, we have far more than 30 seconds to describe everyone in the game; otherwise, we'd probably ruin the economy paying the Time Goddess every so often.

[[folder:Main Protagonists]]
!! The Time Goddess

[[quoteright:260:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/half_minute_hero_goddess2_2424.jpg]]

A goddess who had fought a great battle with the Ultimate Evil Lord for eons, eventually sealing her away. She helps the Hero on his journey to stop the evil lords from casting the 30-second spell of destruction by rewinding time (for a fee, of course). She also assists the Evil Lord and the Princess, [[spoiler:as well as the Knight in the form of the Sage.]]
----
%%* BigGood
* BerserkButton: '''NEVER''' pray at her shrine with insufficient funds if you're the Hero. She will screw you over otherwise.
* TheChooserOfTheOne: Picks the Hero because she needs a pawn with which to deal with the Evil Lords.
* TheFogOfAges: While she remains active between Half Minute Hero and The Second Coming, by the time the plot proper starts up a lot of the intervening time's details have slipped her mind.
* GoldAndWhiteAreDivine: ''Especially'' the gold.
* {{Greed}}: Loves money and jewels almost to the detriment of the quest, but usually keeps herself in check.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler:At the hands of Noire. [[SubvertedTrope Yet]] [[UnexplainedRecovery she manages to come back]] after everyone defeats him.]]
* LimitedWardrobe: Which becomes an inconvenience in the colder regions.
* [[MetaGuy Meta Girl]]
%%* MiserAdvisor
* MoneyFetish: To the point where she nearly sympathizes with Gordon, who also loves his gold.
* [[MrExposition Ms. Exposition]]: Fills you in on the plot of every quest.
%%* ThePollyanna
%%* SayItWithHearts
* SunglassesAtNight: In ''Evil Lord 30''. Again in the sequel whenever she does any of her shadier business.
* WalkLikeAnEgyptian: Her sprite animations resemble the art style.

!! The Hero

[[quoteright:198:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/half_minute_hero_hero2_4515.jpg]]

A young traveler living in [[AlternateCalendar Goddess Era 100]], tasked with saving the world from being obliterated in 30 seconds by the spell of destruction. Thanks to the Time Goddess, he doesn't need to break a sweat.
----
* BagOfSpilling: {{Justified|Trope}}. [[spoiler: He gave all his equipment and money up to allow the Time Goddess to seal him away until the world needed him the most.]]
* CastFromHP: His [[SprintShoes Dash ability]] allows him to run across the land and skip random encounters at the cost of some HP.
* DealWithTheDevil: Makes one to defeat an evil lord and access the gloomy route. In addition, the devil in question promises to take his soul as payment after the four levels of that route are done. Thankfully, the Time Goddess will remove the contract for 1,000,000G.
* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold: His nobility earns him respect from a Time Beast.
* TheHero: "Hero (in English)/Yuusha (in Japanese)" is even his default name, and in the sequel, his canonical name.
* HeroicLineage: [[spoiler:Yusha, his son, is the main protagonist of ''The Second Coming'']]
* HeroicMime: He never speaks ingame.
* IconicOutfit: The Brave Set, obtained at the end of Hero 30 and Hero 300.
%%* InnocentBlueEyes
* PunnyName: His canonical name is Hero/Yuusha as of the sequel, which also features his family as the major protagonists, who call themselves "descendants of Heroes" though it's also accurate to say they're descendants of Hero/Yuusha.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: In the game's concept art, although only appearing in-game briefly near the end as part of the Brave Vest.
* SealedGoodInACan[=/=]HumanPopsicle: [[spoiler:Opts to give up all his possessions to be put into stasis until the world's end.]]
* WalkingTheEarth: The Hero started out this way, as a simple traveler.

!! The (Beautiful!) Evil Lord

[[quoteright:261:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/half_minute_hero_bel2_3272.jpg]]

Unlike the other Evil Lords from ''Hero 30'', this Evil Lord only learned and cast the spell of destruction out of grief of losing his lover Millenia. However, thanks to the Hero's kindness, he regains his sanity and stops the spell. Now (in GE 200) he sets out to break the curse placed upon her, fighting and punishing the humans that dare stand in his way.
----
* TheAgeless / LongLived: ''Evil Lord 30'' takes place 100 years after ''Hero 30'', and he hasn't aged a day.
%%* TheBeastmaster
%%* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass
%%* TheDandy
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: He cast the spell of destruction after he lost Millenia to Noire. [[spoiler:[[FromBadToWorse Then he lost it]] ''[[FromBadToWorse again]]'' when Millenia reverted to bat form. It takes the combined efforts of The Hero, Knight, Sage, and Princess to snap him out of it the second time.]]
%%* LongHairedPrettyBoy
* MadeOfIron: Only his summoning circle is affected by the hits he takes.
* TheMinionMaster: His fighting style involves summoning waves of monsters to deal with his enemies.
* {{Narcissist}}: Feels the constant need to point out just how beautiful he is.
%%* NobleDemon
* OptionalPartyMember: [[spoiler:Joins you in the sequel if you collect enough titles]].
* ParasolOfPrettiness: A rare male example. Justified in that his parasol is Millenia in her monster form.
%%* PurpleIsPowerful: And boy does he know it!
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Subverted. He doesn't actually live up to the "Evil" half of his title.
* YouKeepUsingThatWord: Millenia is quick to note how the Evil Lord is using "abominate" when he means "dominate."

!! The Princess

[[quoteright:222:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/half_minute_hero_princess2_9449.jpg]]

The princess of the World Nation, which was established prior to the current era of GE 300. Armed with her crossbow, her loyal troupe of knights, and her determination, she sets out to try and find cures for her father, the ailing King.
----
* AutomaticCrossbow: She wields one, which turns her from a PrincessClassic into a berserker death machine just by holding it in her hands.
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon: Princess with a large AutomaticCrossbow.
%%* HotBlooded: In "Crossbow Mode."
%%* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Multiple outfits, even!
* PrecisionFStrike: Also in "Crossbow Mode." One shining example:
-->'''Princess:''' Woohoo! Feel the power!! Now I can tear everyone a new [[CensoredForComedy ***]]!
* RichInDollarsPoorInSense: She's hardly been outside the castle most of her life, so it's a given.
%%* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething
* TooImportantToWalk: She's carried into battle on a sedan chair. Part of her mode's gameplay mechanic is keeping your knights alive so you can maintain speed.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: She's the only protagonist from the first game who doesn't make a reappearance in ''Second Coming'', though it's justified in part because the others are either immortal or made deals with the Goddess to pass into the later Goddess Eras. Yushia is also a partial {{Expy}} of her as well.

!! The Knight

[[quoteright:160:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/half_minute_hero_knight2_1417.jpg]]

The last surviving knight after the awakening of the Ultimate Evil Lord and the ensuing monsters' rampage, revived by a benevolent Sage. In the desolate year of GE 500, he accompanies the Sage through the ruined World Nation, defending him from the now-dominant monsters.
----
* TheAgeless: In ''Second Coming'', it's revealed that he had his personal time-frame stopped by the Goddess, in order to continue serving her throughout the centuries.
* ArmorPiercingAttack: His skill in the second game excels at taking down things that usually only take one damage, such as boulders.
* BackFromTheDead: How he met the Sage, and his gimmick in Hero 300.
* ButtMonkey: Especially in ''Second Coming''.
%%* DumbMuscle[=/=]DumbIsGood
* IOweYouMyLife: The reason for his UndyingLoyalty towards the Sage.
* IdiotHero: He has traits of this. One standout example is fighting some wolves...with a [[ImprobableWeaponUser duck]].
* ImprovisedWeapon: He can use sticks and rocks to daze enemies, even going so far as to [[GrievousHarmWithABody use smaller monsters to attack others]].
* UndyingLoyalty: He owes the Sage his life (literally) and will do anything to protect him.

!! The Sage

[[quoteright:204:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/half_minute_hero_sage2_583.jpg]]

A mysterious wizard who revives a Knight and has him serve as his bodyguard. With his help, he goes around the ruined world, purifying it of monsters as he seeks the three brave souls of times past. [[spoiler:He is actually the reincarnation of the Time Goddess.]]
----
* GodInHumanForm: [[spoiler:Goddess, actually]].
* InstantRunes: His spellcasting is represented by wavy upward-floating technicolor runes.
* MagicStaff: A golden one, from which the waves of his purification spell emanate.
* TheMentor: Briefly to Yushia, [[spoiler:until she drops the disguise]].
* SquishyWizard: He can purify the world with his powerful spell of doom...provided he doesn't get hit [[FourIsDeath four times]] by monsters. [[OneHitKill Or once by Bullwood]].
* GodWasMyCoPilot: [[spoiler:The Time Goddess Was The Knight's Sage.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Main Antagonists]]
!! Noire
The overarching antagonist of the game, he seeks to revive the Ultimate Evil Lord [[spoiler:so that he can use her power for his own]]. He has taught the spell of destruction to various evil overlords in ''Hero 30'', antagonized the Beautiful Evil Lord by kidnapping and cursing his lover prior to ''Evil Lord 30'', cursed the King of the World Nation in ''Princess 30'', and finally [[spoiler:killed the Time Goddess to awaken the Ultimate Evil Lord,]] allowing the events before ''Knight 30'' and ''Hero 300'' to pass.
----
* AGodAmI: [[spoiler:Once he absorbs the power of the Ultimate Evil Lord.]]
* CutsceneBoss: In ''Princess 30'', the King practically beats his ass when he finds him.
%%* TheCorrupter
%%* EvilSorcerer
* FutureImperfect: Barely referenced in the sequel, with the implication that either [[spoiler: his hijacking of the Ultimate Evil Lord was forgotten about, or [[CompositeCharacter the two were conflated over time]].]]
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:Again, after absorbing the power of the Ultimate Evil Lord.]]

!! Black Knight Lord Zain

* BlackKnight: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin No duh]].

!! Reaper Lord Lamde

* TheHeavy: Responsible for most of Ouverture and Judgement [[spoiler:by tricking Yusha into releasing the Evil Lords]].
* MasterOfIllusion: Is capable of disguising himself and other monsters as humans [[spoiler:and spends much of Ouverture in his disguise as Ramiz]].
* ObviouslyEvil: The King in his quest lets out a cackle when you talk to him. To no surprise, it's actually Lamde in disguise.

!! Overlord Hol

%%* DemonLordsAndArchdevils
* FinalBoss: Of ''Hero 30''

!! Grillade
One of Roseir's servants, Grillade pesters the Knight and Sage as they travel the ruined world.

[[folder:Other]]
!! The Evil Lords
A collective of [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin evil lords]] who have learned the spell of destruction and will use it for their own ends. This excludes the Beautiful Evil Lord, Black Knight Lord Zain, The Goddess of Judgement, [[spoiler:Lord Larrie]], Reaper Lord Lamde, Overlord Hol, and Noire, who all have their own sections.
----

* MonsterOfTheWeek: Monster of the Half-Minute since they get their own little time as the antagonist of a cycle.

!! The Bandit Trio
A trio of misfits who cause mischief across the lands the Hero travels.
----
!!! Tropes shared by all three characters:
%%* GoldfishPoopGang
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: They accidentally revived the undead queen Nexus by stealing the holy grail sealing her.
* ThemeNaming / ShoutOut: Cully, Larrie and Mo are (quasi-)named after Film/TheThreeStooges.

!!! Larrie
The young brat of the trio.
----
%%* BrattyHalfPint
* EnfantTerrible: [[spoiler: More so as evil lord.]]
* PantheraAwesome: He gets to ride a tiger [[spoiler:as Lord Larrie.]]

!!! Cully
The stout one of the trio.
----
* {{Acrofatic}}: Can easily destroy the boulder messing up the current, if given [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown the right persuasion]].
%%* FatBastard

!!! Mo
The sneaky one of the trio.
----

!! Sasha
A girl Hero meets in a quest and rescues from some monsters.
----
* AscendedExtra: [[spoiler:She's an optional party member in Second Coming and Hero's wife as well as Yusha's mother.]]
* EasyAmnesia: [[spoiler:At first in the sequel, due to being asleep for almost 900 years. But seeing Hero brings everything back to her.]]
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:She was a monster who worked for Lamde in order to buy time for him by distracting Hero, but she decided that she didn't want such a beautiful world destroyed.]]
* LightningBruiser: [[spoiler:As a party member, she's the fastest one, so she'll get the first strike in a battle, her attack is decent, and she's one of the most durable party members in the game.]]

!! Millenia
A young human woman who the Evil Lord fell in love with. They shared a happy life together until Noire kidnapped her and turned her into a bat. After the Hero rescued her, The Evil Lord set about finding Noire to make him remove the curse.
----
* LittleBitBeastly: [[spoiler:After the Evil Lord finds Noire and defeats him, making his curse go away partially. Too bad it doesn't stick.]]
* MoralityChain: [[spoiler:The minute her curse worsens, The Evil Lord completely loses it.]]
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler: The very "sacrifice" that caused her to flee the village was actually her doing all along. After complaining to her friend, Mr. Bat, about her treatment because of her hair, he came back to the village, posing as a god and demanding the sacrifice of violet-haired girls. It later turns out that the girls weren't being sacrificed, but were kept safe by Mr. Bat to avoid persecution. If Millenia hadn't met BEL, she would've run away from her home for nothing.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: By the time of the sequel, going back and forth between human and bat form so often has apparently given her the ability to do so at will.
* WeakenedByTheLight: As a bat undergoing monsterization, she is averse to sunlight. The Evil Lord only has so much time to accomplish his objective before the sun rises.

!! The Goddess of Judgement
[[spoiler: The BigBad from ''Valhalla Knights 2'' (another game developed by XSEED), she reprises her role in the BonusDungeon ''Another Goddess,'' while acting as a WalkingSpoiler. Only appears in the PSP version.]]

!! The King
The king of the World Nation, who united it under his rule and proceeded to live a happy life with his queen and daughter, the Princess. Unfortunately, at the beginning of ''Princess 30'', he falls ill and becomes bedridden, causing the Princess to go out and find a means to cure him of his sickness.
----
%%* TheAce
* DramaPreservingHandicap: If not for his illness, Princess could just stand back and watch him solve everything.
* [[RealMenWearPink Real Men Wear Pink Pajamas]]
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: The moment his illness is cured, [[spoiler:he unveils and defeats Noire within seconds]].

!! Johnny and Max
The Princess's two most loyal guards. They (along with up to 28 others) carry her across the land while she rains arrow-shaped death at whatever monsters stand in her way.
----
* HeroicSacrifice: Max distracts the volcano's fire spirit with a princess effigy so that the real Princess and her guard can escape to safety, much to everyone's distress. He does come back later, but in the meantime his position is filled by his brother Hugh.
%%* ThoseTwoGuys

[[/folder]]

! The Second Coming

[[folder:Main Protagonists]]
!! Yusha
The protagonist of the ''Overture'' and ''Judgement'' chapters. The commander of Brave Kingdom's commando force in Goddess Era 600. Tasked initially with clearing out the last remnants of the Evil Lords, he's eventually given a top-secret mission from the queen herself. A mysterious man with no knowledge of his past. Furthering his mystery, he has a single white wing that appears when he gets serious in battle.
----
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler: It takes him nearly 400 years but he eventually pulls his personal Timestream together enough to take his revenge in Heaven at the start of ''Destiny''. After the heroes defeat Fate, he gets to more properly come back to his own time.]]
%%* CommandingCoolness
* {{Determinator}}: If he has a mission to complete, he will ''never'' stop. Not when [[spoiler:a curse is tearing his body apart]], and not when [[spoiler:walking across a river of lava with the Ultimate Evil Lord at its end]].
* DreamingOfThingsToCome: After an overload of timestream energy,he has a vision including scenes from centuries in the future. While his response seems to indicate that he is coming unhinged, he has an easier time interpreting it than the average player.
* FishOutOfTemporalWater: [[spoiler:Yusha is actually Hero's son, and belongs to his time period, but the Goddess accidentally displaced him to GE 600 while saving him from the Ultimate Evil Lord]].
* FrameUp: In ''Judgement'', an Evil Lord frames him for [[spoiler:the death of Brave Kingdom's queen, causing him to be chased from the kingdom, and leading to Yashu's fall]].
* FutureImperfect: After 200 years, enough of the details have been lost that no one remembers that he was ever an outlaw.
* GoodWingsEvilWings: His single wing is white, to signify his heroic nature. [[spoiler:Throughout ''Prelude'', the Elements' curse gradually turns it black. In the final mission of ''Overture'', it turns completely black, and begins to radiate the Spell of Destruction]].
* HalfHumanHybrid: He turns out to be the son of [[spoiler:Hero and an angel. Amusingly, he's referred to not as half-angel and half-human, but as half-angel and half-''hero''.]]
* HeroWithBadPublicity: [[spoiler:At the start of Judgement, thanks to Reaper Lord Lamde.]]
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtwUsn3EWK4 One Winged Hero]]
* KnightInSourArmor: He's developed into this in ''Judgement''. His primary motivation is revenge, but he still helps people whenever he can.
* MyDeathIsJustTheBeginning: [[spoiler:Dying after defeating Metsvolos puts him in a position where he can continue his revenge in the afterlife, though it takes several centuries for him to pull himself back together. He supposedly was able to plan it all out as he was overloaded with Timestream at the end of Overture.]]
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:His "top-secret-mission" to destroy the Eight Elements was actually a ruse by Reaper Lord Lamde. The Elements were the only things maintaining the seal on the Dark World and the Evil Lords.]]
* PoorCommunicationKills: He's very bad about not explaining his situation. At first, this is because his mission is classified but it quickly develops into a bad habit. Of course, other beings have the same problem of not explaining themselves to him...
* {{Revenge}}: At the end of ''Overture'', he swears vengeance upon [[spoiler:the Evil Lords, Reaper Lord Lamde in particular, and Fate itself]].
* TookALevelInKindness: In ''Destiny'', in part thanks to his descendants, he's a lot more kind and even cracks some jokes and smiles.
* WingedHumanoid: Yusha has a single, white wing that appears from his back when he gets serious in battle. [[spoiler:He loses it by the end of Overture]]. It's eventually revealed that [[spoiler:the wing is a sign of his Angel blood]].

!! Yushia
The protagonist of the ''Revolution'' chapter. A princess, and descendant of heroes, living in the Time Goddess Academy in Goddess Era 800. When the EvilEmpire breaks its peace treaties and attacks, she considers it her duty as a hero to take up arms and fight them.
----
* ACupAngst: A few time during the main quest. DLC quest however completely turn Yushia into ButtMonkey for this trope to the point that she has to admit that she is Pettanko just to proceed the quest.
* CharacterDevelopment: By the later arcs, she's developed a more subdued, SeenItAll attitude.
* GenkiGirl: Her main forte.
* JumpedAtTheCall: She's very eager to follow in her ancestors' footsteps.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9vv1n9Ntys Princess, Defender of the Academy]]"
* LightIsGood: Towards the end of ''Revolution'' her new gear is described as divine, holy, and angelic, and Xi, the last storyline Bowgun, has a skill that unleashes Light damage. [[spoiler: She's a descendent of the half-angel Yusha as well.]]
* MixAndMatchWeapon: Her signature weapons are the Bowgunblades developed by Nanako, which specialize in hitting multiple enemies and having a high critical chance.
* PalsWithJesus: All of the heroes are friends with the Time Goddess, but Yushia's relationship with her is the most consistently positive. (However, even she sees the flaws in the goddess' attitude.)
* PluckyGirl: She's much more upbeat and kinder than Yusha or Yuja, but just as much of a hero.
* PintsizedPowerhouse: The game sprite make her look smaller than many characters yet she is as powerful as the rest of the hero.
* RichInDollarsPoorInSense: Much like the Princess before her. When told that an ancient monster is demanding sacrifices from a village, she swears as a hero to put a stop to it... then, seemingly as an afterthought, asks what exactly a sacrifice ''is''.
%%* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSOmething
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: A partial CallBack to the Princess, as she has the same RichInDollarsPoorInSense attitude. The Princess' signature crossbow is even put in the Bowgun category, which is Yushia's signature.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: She's scared of frogs, though it doesn't come outside the second mission, though it does get a CallBack in the first mission of ''Destiny'' before she's recruitable.

!! Yuja

The protagonist of the ''Ragnarok'' chapter. A descendant of heroes. In Goddess Era 999, Yuja travels the land, beating up gods who are trying to disrupt the peace between humans and demons. His amazing strength has earned him the title "God Slayer".
----
* BloodKnight: Faced with a God demanding to battle him, he tells the Time Goddess that he dreads not its power or any traps it might be luring him into, but that it'll turn out to be all talk and he won't get a good fight.
* CaptainErsatz: [[Anime/TengenToppaGurrenLagann A young Hot Blooded man wandering the broken future, fighting Gods that have taken over the world with a blue haired woman as his closest friend]]. Made more explicit with the Drill Lance found in his campaign [[spoiler: which becomes his weapon in the final campaign]].
* DefeatMeansFriendship: A few characters have join him after he beat them.
* {{Determinator}}:[[spoiler:During his battle with the Dark Goddess, he takes all her attacks meant for Coo and continues to taunt her and tell her to listen to Coo's song.]]
* HotBlood: And how!
* IdiotHero: He prefers to fight first and think later. He is also apparently incapable of basic math.
* {{LeitMotif}}: "No More HERO"
* MonkeyKingLite: IdiotHero with bright red hair and a preference for polearms? Check.
* PetTheDog: While he stops being nearly as rude later on, he's always a FriendToAllChildren.
* SkywardScream: After [[spoiler: Coo dies at the end of ''Ragnarok'', the chapter ends with him screaming her name. He's still screaming at the start of ''Destiny''.]]

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Party Members and Major Allies]]
! Goddess Era 600

!! Princess Ciel

The young princess of the Brave Kingdom, who grew up alongside Yusha and Yashu.
----
* DamselInDistress: On two separate occasions.
* MyGirlBackHome: Yusha sees her this way and they share an attraction. She's obviously not satisfied staying home, though.
* PreClimaxClimax: A g-rated version can occur if Yusha takes the hint to revisit her during Judgement's endgame sequence.
* RebelliousPrincess: She'd ''like'' to accompany Yusha and have adventures, and slips away to meet up with him a few times early on. Unfortunately, Yusha's mission is "Top Secret" and he feels he can't let her tag along for Overture.
* SomeoneToRememberHimBy: [[spoiler: According to the DLC missions of ''Revolution'', she had a child after Yusha died, and never remarried. Subverted after ''Destiny'' as Yusha gets to come back to life instead.]]
* ToughLeaderFacade: [[spoiler: After the start of Judgement, she must take control of Brave Kingdom in her mother's absence lest chaos reign. This forces her to stay put while Yusha leaves as a fugitive.]]

!! Yashu

A sub-commander in the Brave Kingdom's Commando Force, alongside Yusha and Guy. A longtime sparring partner and friendly rival of Yusha, and ''fiercely'' loyal to Queen Maria.
----
* BaitAndSwitchBoss: [[spoiler: He's involved in variations of this multiple times - fighting the protagonist during gameplay before the chapter's real villain is beaten in a cutscene, and having chapters built around encountering him only for the level to continue on to another boss afterwards. His final fight against the protagonists plays it for drama: Yashu finally gets his last stand against Yusha's line, but instead they opt to knock away the Demon Sword eating his soul and defeat it instead.]]
* BodyguardCrush: Averted. While he's a bodyguard to more than one beautiful princess as the game goes on, he's not interested in any woman but Queen Maria. Played straight with her [[spoiler:but subverted in that the one time he's seen protecting Maria, it's a fake]]
* CaptainOblivious: Some things he can be forgiven for missing [[spoiler:such as his bat cape being Maria]]. Others are far less justifiable.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: Like Yusha, he was taken in by Queen Maria and has dedicated his life to her service, but to a higher, near-fanatical degree. [[spoiler:Lamde exploits this to make him into Yusha's greatest enemy.]]
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: [[spoiler:Saves Yushia from being blown off the Sky Continent for the sole purpose of killing her himself.]]
* TheRival: A sparring partner to Yusha from their respective childhoods, though they work well alongside each other in battle.
* RivalTurnedEvil: [[spoiler:After taking up the Demon Sword, he becomes hell-bent on taking revenge on Yusha, and anyone connected to him or his bloodline]].
* {{Superboss}}: [[spoiler: After defeating the Demon Sword, he waits at the bottom of the Demon Maze and will join the party after being defeated; however reaching the bottom of the Demon Maze itself requires a lot more effort than defeating the final boss, arguably elevating him to the status of the TrueFinalBoss of the story mode]].
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: He's visually pretty similar to the Beautiful Evil Lord, and even has some of the same character traits. [[spoiler: Like the Beautiful Evil Lord, he also eventually makes a HeelFaceTurn and joins the protagonists]].

!! Guy

A sub-commander in the Brave Kingdom's Commando Force, alongside Yusha and Yashu. Not nearly as stoic or serious as his comrades, and a bit of a womanizer.
----
* BunnyEarsLawyer: Despite his carefree attitude, he is one of the Brave Kingdom's Sub-commanders, on par with Yusha and Yashu [[spoiler:and is the first ally to realize something's wrong with the queen.]]
%%* TheCharmer
* DemotedToExtra: Despite being part of the initial trio, he gets few scenes and no interaction with Yashu in the finale chapter.
* GuestStarPartyMember: After the first few quests, he leaves the party only to show up as this in a couple more throughout the game, before finally joining for good late into Judgement.
* HeKnowsAboutTimedHits: Provides tutorial information in the first few missions purely for the player's sake, much to Yashu's confusion.
* JackOfAllStats: His Attack and Defense are identical.

!! Ramiz

A Brave Kingdom soldier who has a top-secret mission for Yusha on behalf of the queen. A dutiful soldier, but not much about him is known.
----
* CannonFodder: Is one of the weakest party members. [[spoiler:Possibly intentionally, as he has absolutely no interest in saving anybody]].
* EvilAllAlong: [[spoiler:Is actually the Reaper Lord Lamde, manipulating Yusha to free the Evil Lords.]]
* FacelessGoons: The only visual difference between him and other Brave Kingdom soldiers is that his armor is black with a winged helmet and theirs is grey.

!! Rurufi

A sorcerer's apprentice who helps Yusha see through the Mist Dragon's deception, joining him on his quest.
----
* TheAgeless: Keeps running her shop in Hero Castle for centuries without changing. It's not until a good ways into Ragnarock that anyone bothers to explain how. (She's an elf, as is her teacher.)
%%* CuteWitch
* ShipTease: She's obviously attracted to Yusha, but he doesn't return it.

!! Knight

The same Knight who saved the world alongside the Hero and others from the first game. He has continued to live as the Time Goddess's servant to help protect the world.

See his entry in Half Minute Hero 1 --> Main Protagonists above for more details.

!! Roken

A veteran traveling swordsman who comes back to battle to help fight off the Rock Dragon, joining Yusha on his adventure afterwards.
----
* HeroicBSOD: As a result of losing his sword to the Rock Dragon.
* OptionalPartyMember: He will only join if you give him the new sword.
* WreckedWeapon: At the start of his stage, his weapon breaks against the Rock Dragon's armor, crushing his spirit until you can make him a replacement.

!! Cole

A prisoner of Brave Kingdom. [[spoiler:He helps Yusha escape jail after his wrongful imprisonment between Overture and Judgement.]]
----
* DefeatMeansFriendship: Wants you to prove your strength to him before he'll help you.
* EpicFlail: Uses his shackles as a weapon.
* StoneWall: Tough, but slow as molasses.

!! Rina

A young girl from a village on the outskirst of Brave Kingdom, she is able to play melodies that can lull animals to sleep. She joins Yusha to help him defeat the Evil Lords.
----
* CheerfulChild: Nothing gets her down, though her age is actually never given.
* TheHeart: Befriends a demon dog with her music, and convinces her village to trust Yusha.
* MusicSoothesTheSavageBeast: Befriends one demon dog and lulls another to sleep with it in her introductory chapter.

!! Dai and Zochi

A pair of carpenters who maintain the giant mobile fortress "Hero Castle."
----
* TheAgeless: It is never explained how, but wherever, whenever, the Hero Castle is, these two can also be found.
* RidiculouslyFastConstruction: Dai is able to switch parts of the castle instantly, provided he's available to talk to. Zochi, on the other hand, is able to add new floors to equip additional body parts, but only outside of quests.
%%* ThoseTwoGuys

!! Francisca

An Evil Lord who loves to collect weapons. She loves them so much, that she doesn't want the world to be destroyed, as it would mean the destruction of her weapon collection as well.
----
* AscendedExtra: Was only a normal stage boss in the first game.
%%* HeelFaceTurn
* ItemCrafting: Acts as a weaponsmith in Hero Castle. She can combine one weapon with another to make a stronger version of it.
* OptionalBoss: [[spoiler:Is the final boss in Infinite Battle mode.]]

!! Evil Lord

The same Beautiful Evil Lord who saved the world alongside the Hero and others from the first game. Not to be confused with the other Evil Lords out to destroy the world.

See his entry in Half Minute Hero 1 --> Main Protagonists above for more details.

!! Grillade

See his entry in Half Minute Hero 1 --> Main Antagonists above for more details.
----
* DungeonBypass: Thanks to his flying skills, this is something of a specialty of his.
* OptionalPartyMember: Only shows up during his quest if Knight is in your active party.

!! Ultros

A demon dog that Rina has befriended.
----
* ChekhovsGunman: Is asleep when you meet him at first, but he shows up several quests later.
* HellHound: It is a demon dog.
%%* HeroicDog
* MeaningfulName: It's a corruption of Orthros, another mythological hellhound. Also a reference to the ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'' Ultros. (While the corruption was accidental in the octopus' case, it's intentional here.)

!Goddess Era 800

!! Nanako

One of Yushia's friends at Goddess Academy. A technological expert who made Yushia's bowgun.
----
* CaptainErsatz: Of Lucca from Chrono Trigger.
%%* GadgeteerGenius

!! Levan

A handsome, though somewhat narcissistic friend of Yushia at Goddess Academy.
----
%%* CasanovaWannabe
%%* FriendlySniper

!! Athena

The princess of the empire. Somewhat haughty and conceited, but holds much love for her father and country. Opposes Yushia on multiple occasions.
----
* HeelFaceTurn: Eventually joins Yushia [[spoiler:to try and save her father from his madness.]]
* JetPack: Rides on a glider that serves both as her transportation and weapon.
%%* NoblewomansLaugh
* RichInDollarsPoorInSense: Her first encounter has her learning about doing labor and monster hunting to get money from Yushia, who is herself doing it for the first time.
* {{Tsundere}}: [[LampshadeHanging It even says so in the gallery]].

!! Shamal

A Beastwoman defending her home from the Empire's invasion. Initially hostile to Yushia, she joins after Yushia helps protect her home.
----
%%* BeastFolk
* MachineWorship: [[spoiler: The God of her people is actually the Hero Castle, stuck underground thanks to it being trapped in the Dark World for the past 200 years.]]
* WolverineClaws

!! Brave General Silveria

One of the Empire's Three Imperial Generals. Although technically in opposition to Yushia's quest, she helps her out in order to mitigate casualties caused by the reckless actions of the other generals.
----
* CaptainErsatz: ''Revolution'' is a WholePlotReference to ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'', and General Silveria is basically Celes Chere with a different hair color.
* DefectorFromDecadence: Defects from the Empire and joins Yushia for good in order to help her [[spoiler:destroy the monstrous Grimoire beasts that the Empire had created.]]
%%* ReasonableAuthorityFigure
* TokenGoodteammate: The only heroic member of the Three Imperial Generals.
* WhipSword: Her weapon of choice.

!! Tetsu

A robot abandoned at the Imperial Laboratory. With a little help from Nanako, he is repaired and gladly aids Yushia on her quest.
----
* CaptainErsatz: Of Robo from Chrono Trigger.
* ChekhovsGun: It takes a few chapters after he's found to be put in working order.
* RobotBuddy: Obviously.
* StoneWall: Among the highest defense stats in the game.

!! Geezer

A mysterious, silent swordsman in a hood who has come to the heroes' aid. [[spoiler:His true identity is none other than the Hero from the first game, and Yusha's father.]]
----
* AndTheAdventureContinues: [[spoiler: After the end of ''Destiny'', he and Sasha are seen running in an unknown time period, off on another adventure]].
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: Yushia dubs him "geezer" since he won't tell her his actual name. While the Time Goddess figures it out quickly, he doesn't want Yushia to know it. [[spoiler: It sticks even in ''Destiny'' though, where he's known as "True Geezer" instead of "Hero"]].
* HumanPopsicle: Is found encased in crystal the first time you see him in each time period.
* HeroicMime
* MysteriousProtector: Plays this role in Revolution, rescuing Yushia and the Time Goddess from trouble several times before Yushia convinces him to just join the party already. Yushia even crushes on him, but for obvious reasons this doesn't go anywhere.
* SealedBadassInACan: What he initially seems to be in his first appearance.
* SealedGoodInACan: What he proves to be once he shows up for longer.
* ShaggyDogStory: [[spoiler: It turns out that meeting Yusha was the reason he sealed himself in the first place. But mission-focused Yusha rushed to his final battle and died a hero before Geezer could catch up with him a second time. This echoes Hero being unable to find Noire again back in Hero 30.]]
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: After a brief scene at the end of Overture, he and Yusha are separated by an explosion and he never reappears in Judgement. Presumably, he gave up and resealed himself at some point.

! Goddess Era 999

!! Coo

A blind girl who is the last of the Singer tribe, after the God Nine silenced the rest of them with their light. Is roped into helping Yuja stop the God Nine when he discovers that her song is the only thing that can counter the God Nine's magic.
----
%%* BlindMusician
* DespairEventHorizon: [[spoiler:Having her song used as nothing more than an anti-sanctuary tool slowly wears her down to the point where she no longer finds joy in singing. This causes her to lose her ability to sing at all until she can remember why she became a Singer in the first place and becomes remotivated.]]
* FadingAway: [[spoiler: Uses her personal Timestream to make the Song of Time reach the Time Goddess to snap her out of her Dark Time Goddess persona, which results in her death. She's not seen in Heaven during ''Destiny'' either, but the Goddess brings her back in the credits.]]
* MagicMusic
* SupportPartyMember: Doesn't fight, unlike the rest of Yuja's companions.

!! Karin

A nun who joins Yuja to protect her village from the one of the raging God Nine. After helping slay the God, she decides to devote herself to the Time Goddess instead.
----
%%* BadassPreacher
%%* CarryABigStick
* CrisisOfFaith: She doesn't know what to do at first after helping Yuja slay the local God Nine (who she had been praying to to stop the volcanoes, but to no avail,) but then the Time Goddess shows up to chat, and everything works out from there.
* HairTriggerTemper: Gets angry somewhat easily.
* OutOfFocus: Joins early in ''Ragnarok'', but has very few lines compared to Yuja, Coo or No. 30.

!! No. 30

An Android developed by the Empire from ''Revolution'' with the purpose of allowing them to manipulate the Timestream like the Time Goddess can. [[spoiler:Serves as Yuja and company's Time Goddess while the actual Time Goddess has gone off the deep end.]]
----
* ArmorPiercingAttack: [[spoiler:Her gimmick as a party member]].
* GoneHorriblyRight: A helpful example. Wise General Richter built her to be just like the Time Goddess as a weapon for the Empire. Not only were her Time abilities replicated, however, but also her personality quirks and ability to only work with the Chosen Hero and descendants, making it useless to the Empire and perfect for Yuja.
* {{Greed}}: She is based on the Time Goddess after all.
%%* IfMyCalculationsAreCorrect
* JetPack: Has rocket boosters in place of legs.
* MightyGlacier: [[spoiler:When she joins the party in ''Destiny'' as "Retrofitted No. 30"]]
* OnlyInItForTheMoney: [[spoiler:You need to have 15000 Gold on hand to get her back in ''Destiny''.]] But this isn't out of malice on her part, rather it is in order for her [[spoiler:repair systems to quickly complete themselves]], as she literally operates on money. Although, it is unclear how much of that is actually needed and how much of it is due to the Time Goddess' personality.
%%* RobotGirl
* WaveMotionGun: In the second Ragnarök DLC mission, she has one that can wreck an entire fleet of battleships. It costs 50000G to use.

!!Oron

A young boy who lives near the Tower of Contracts, whose village is wiped out while he is out. With Yuja's help, he is able to make a contract with either an angel or a demon to gain immense power, and accompanies Yuja to help save the world afterwards.
----
* CombatMedic: By making a contract with an angel, Oron gains a healing skill.
* DealWithTheDevil: Subverted. While he can make a literal deal with a demon, it's never shown to have negative repercussions and [[DarkIsNotEvil the demon itself doesn't seem all that nasty]]. Inverted if he makes a deal with an angel instead.
* MagicallyBindingContract: Forms one with either an angel or a demon in his chapter. Each one provides different abilities.
* OptionalPartyMember: It's possible to defeat the boss without helping him, but it is more difficult to do so.

!!Sach, the Third Daughter of Slaughter

One of the Venus Seven. A speed-demon through and through, she challenges Yuja to a motorcycle race, eschewing combat and sanctuaries and betting it all on the track. Impressed by Yuja's performance and strength, she decides to join his team after the battle.
----
* CarFu: Her motorcycle is her weapon.
* CripplingOverspecialization: After Yuja wins the race, she realizes [[OhCrap to her horror]] that she's been so focused on riding that she's completely neglected to work on her fighting skills, and proceeds to go down in one hit.
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: Decides to join Yuja's team after being defeated.
%%* HeelFaceTurn
* LetsFightLikeGentlemen: Provides a powerful buggy for Yuja to compete fairly against her in, and doesn't throw up a Sanctuary or Song of Destruction in her stage.

!!Asurako

[[spoiler:The combat expert of the Venus Seven. A powerful fighter who built an arena to satisfy her desire for a good fight. After refusing to stay dead after defeating by Yuja several times, he convinces her to join as a comrade-in-arms.]]
----
%%* BloodKnight
* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:Returns after her death, as well as after being defeated twice more, earning Yuja's respect and admiration.]]
%%* MultiArmedAndDangerous
* OptionalPartyMember: Is found in one of the Ultimate Coliseum global dungeons.

!!Cozain

Son of Zain, the Black Knight Evil Lord. After Zain's defeat in ''Judgement'', he appears periodically throughout the game to take revenge for his father's death, fighting each of the heroes at least once. [[spoiler:After giving his all in one final fight against Yuja, he joins Yuja to help fulfill the ideal of a world where everyone, human, demon, angel, or otherwise can live together in peace.]]
----
* BossInMooksClothing: Randomly replaces a normal enemy in certain locations.
* {{Determinator}}: [[spoiler:Is defeated by Yusha, Yushia, and Yuja on multiple occasions over the course of 400 years, ending in fighting a powered up version of him in one of the final coliseums. Just like with Asurako, this impresses Yuja enough to ask him to join.]]
* OptionalPartyMember: Is found in one of the Ultimate Coliseum global dungeons.
* WellDoneSonGuy: Mentions that he wasn't always seeing eye to eye with his father the first time you fight him, implying that part of his need for revenge is to earn his father's respect. [[spoiler:Which he finally succeeds in getting after the final fight against him.]]

!!Sasha

[[spoiler:A former zombie who passed on and became an angel, who since reunited with Hero from the first game. Is Yusha's mother, and has been waiting nearly 900 years to reunite with her family after Yusha was taken away from them before the start of the game.]]

See her entry in Half Minute Hero 1 --> Other above for more details.

[[/folder]]

[[folder:Main Antagonists]]

!! The Eight Elements

A host of powerful beasts that wield great magical powers. They plan to destroy the world, according to Ramiz and the Queen. They are able to annihilate all life on the continent with their powerful Breath of Destruction.
----
* GoodAllAlong: [[spoiler:They were only fighting in self-defense to prevent the Dark World from being unsealed.]]
* PoorCommunicationKills: They ''could'' have explained what was so important they'd destroy continents over it, but then we probably wouldn't have a story.
* TheresNoKillLikeOverkill: Have no qualms about destroying entire continents just to kill Yusha.

!! Reaper Lord Lamde

An Evil Lord with power over death. One of Overlord Hol's right-hand men in the previous game, he now works for Evil Lord Mestvolos in a similar capacity.
----
* BackFromTheDead: Was slain by the Hero in the first game, only to come back stronger this time around.
%%* ManipulativeBastard

!! The Four Ultimate Kings

A host of powerful Evil Lords that serve as Mestvolos' top commanders. Like all Evil Lords, they are able to destroy the world with their Spell of Destruction.
----
* DemonicPossession: Vetra's specialty.
%%* FourIsDeath

!! Ultimate Evil Lord Mestvolos

Ruler of the Dark World and strongest of the Evil Lords. Seeks to conquer the world above, destroying all humans with the Spell of Destruction.
----
* ArcVillain: Of ''Overture'' and ''Judgement''.
* BadBoss: Pulls a YouHaveFailedMe on Vetra when Yusha has her on the ropes.

!! Fierce General Gustaf

One of the Empire's Three Imperial Generals. A bloodthirsty fighter who is indiscriminate in the use of force to accomplish his goals.
----
%%* BloodKnight
* UnwillingRoboticization: [[spoiler:When the Grimoire Spelvia takes over the Imperial Castle, it turns Gustaf into a biomechanical abomination.]]

!! Wise General Richter

One of the Empire's Three Imperial Generals. A scientist who is equal parts brilliant and full of himself. The main scientist behind the development of the Evil Lord Weapons, each equipped with their own continent-leveling Destruction Device.
----
%%* ForScience
%%* InsufferableGenius
%%* MadScientist
* UnwillingRoboticization: [[spoiler:The same case as Gustaf.]]

!! The Grimoires

A group of seven artificially-grown Evil Lords made to tap into the power of the Timestream, and siphon it to the Empire. However, the power proves to be too much for the technology to control, causing them to run mad across the land, threatening it with their built-in Destruction Devices.
----
* GoneHorriblyRight: They ultimately serve their purpose as power sources, but not before breaking loose and threatening the world with their powers.
* SevenDeadlySins: It's relatively subtle, but they seem to have this naming scheme. For example, Ava comes from ''avaritia'', greed, while Spelvia is a corruption of ''superbia'', pride.
* TentacleRope: The first Grimoire, Gravidon, specializes in this as a OneHitKill. If Yushia so much as touches one she is ensnared and consumed.

!! Emperor Golvadis

Leader of the Empire. He has ordered the collection and research into naturally-grown Chrono Crystals and the Timestream for unknown, yet likely sinister reasons.
----
* AGodAmI: [[spoiler:As the Evil Emperor.]]
* AmbitionIsEvil: Wants to harness the power of the Timestream for his own ends. [[spoiler:Even if it means sacrificing his country and daughter, thanks to becoming corrupted by it.]]
* ArcVillain: Of the third chapter, ''Revolution''.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:The bestiary entry for the Evil Emperor states that it is controlling Golvadis. This doesn't seem to match what we see happening, as it seems like a mindless beast without Golvadis' intelligence guiding it. Until Destiny reveals that the Evil Emperor had existed 800 years previously.]]
* SaveTheVillain: Yushia resolves to do so for Athena's sake. [[spoiler:It works.]]
* TheEmperor: A villainous depiction of one.

!! The God Nine

A group of divine beings out to destroy the world, disgusted at the peaceful integration of humans and demons between the ''Revolution'' and ''Ragnarok'' chapters. They take to the field of battle themselves after Yuja kills all their minions at the start of ''Ragnarok''. Able to destroy continents with their Songs of Destruction, and can erect magical barriers known as Sanctuaries to protect themselves, making them very fearsome opponents.
----
* EvilAllAlong: [[spoiler: Psyche. It's because they feed on warfare, and realized that peace between humans and demons had dried up their food source.]]
* LightIsNotGood: All of them, really, but especially Gospelia, who is explicitly associated with Light and uses it to blind you.
* MagicMusic: They can chant the Song of Destruction, which can destroy the world in 30 seconds.
* OminousPipeOrgan: Appropriately enough, this forms the backbone of their themes.
* ATragedyOfImpulsiveness: the fight with the gods stemmed from their misunderstanding of the nature of demonkind and lingering anger about the Eight Elements.

!! The Dark Goddess

[[spoiler:Although the God Nine were defeated, their manipulation of the Timestream's flow caused the Time Goddess to go mad. She is just as greedy and whimsical as always, but now completely evil and aiming to destroy the world.]]

[[spoiler: See her entry in Half Minute Hero 1 --> Main Protagonists above for more details.]]
----
* ArcVillain: In the ''Ragnarok'' chapter.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: In the Ragnarok scenario of ''The Second Coming'', [[spoiler:the God Nine's disruption of [[TheLifestream the Timestream]] causes the Time Goddess to become the ''Dark'' Time Goddess and summon her own group of bad guys to blow up the world.]]
* LikeIsLikeAComma: She talks like this, oddly enough.
* PaintItBlack: [[spoiler:She trades gold and white for [[RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver red and black]].]]
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: The Dark Goddess dresses in black and her eyes are red.
%%* RedEyesTakeWarning

!! The Venus Seven

A group of Goddesses freshly made by [[spoiler:the Dark Time Goddess]] to fill in the void left behind by the God Nine. As gods, they can also use Songs of Destruction and Sanctuaries to stop Yuja.
----
%%* AmazonBrigade
* CuteMonsterGirl: All seven.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Two of the members will actually join Yuja after he defeats them: Sach after her stage, and Asurako, after defeating her in one of the final coliseums.]]
* MagicMusic: The Songs of Destruction.
* TheGrimReaper: The First Slaughter Daughter. Long black robe, [[SinisterScythe gigantic scythe]], power over Death... Her artwork even depicts her with a skeletal right hand.
* {{Twincest}}: Yuri Yaksha, a pair of identical (save hair color) girls holding hands within a crystal flower. The gallery describes them as twins, while their special move is called "Couple's World".

!!Fate
The final antagonist of the game.
----
* BigBad: The ultimate villain of the story and the one behind the actions of the previous ones.
* FinalBoss: The final antagonist of the game.
* GreaterScopeVillain: Of the first game, but his existence is only revealed in the sequel.
* TheManBehindTheMan: Fate is secretly behind every antagonist action and orchestrates the endless conflict between Heroes and Evil Lords to collect Timestream.
