!Ghost Riders

[[folder: Johnny Blaze]]
!!Johnny Blaze

* AntiHero: Of the UnscrupulousHero PayEvilUntoEvil variety.
* AwesomeMcCoolname: [[LongRunner By accident]], mostly.
* BadassNormal: Became one for awhile after ditching Zarathos. During that time, Johnny only had his veteran combat prowess and hellfire shotgun to see him through the worst situations. Usually, that was all he needed.
* BashBrothers: With Daimon Hellstrom. While they've had their disagreements in the past, Johnny has a great working relationship with the infamous Son of Satan, teaming up with him more times than any other Marvel hero to great effect. He actually tends to get along with Hellstrom more than he does his own younger brother, Danny...
* BigBrotherMentor: To Ketch.
* BroughtDownToNormal: In the Midnight sons arc.
* CircusBrat: And his dad was the star attraction.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Yes, he has a flaming skull. Yes, he made a deal with Mephisto. Yes, he has SpikesOfVillainy. But make no mistake - he's a '''good''' guy.
* DeadpanSnarker: It's pretty easy to tell which personality is in control just by listening to the way GR talks. When he's all threats and business-like, it's Zarathos. When he's mixing the threats with a good dosage of verbal smackdown, it's Johnny Blaze.
* DealWithTheDevil: What started his mess, though in later dealings he's managed to get the better of Mephisto.
* DeathGlare: Almost literally. The Penance Stare burns your very soul with varying intensity depending on your crimes.
* GoodIsNotNice: Innocents have nothing to worry about. But if you're a bad guy? You are in for a whole new world of ''hurt''.
* PostModernMagik: His hellfire shotgun.
* PropheticName: Yes, the man named blaze ''would'' get fire powers.
* SeenItAll: Johnny
* StuffedInTheFridge: [[spoiler: With the exception of his brother, his entire immediate family! Even his wife, daughter and son!]]
* UnwillingRoboticisation: To save his life. It was more like a cast than making him a permanent cyborg. He's long since ditched it after regaining his hellfire powers.

[[folder: Zarathos]]

* ArchEnemy: Centurious, the man without a soul.
* BaldOfEvil: He does not have skin for hair follicles to grow from
* DoubleKnockout: His battle with the Danny Ketch/Noble Kale Ghost Rider seemed to be a MutualKill but vengeance spirits and angels are hard to kill, even for each other.
* FallenAngel: After the retcon he became an angel corrupted by Hell.
* NinetiesAntihero: Has become one because of retroactive continuity, though almost all his major enemies being worse than he was makes it a little easier to swallow, there are still some really questionable things he did in older comics.
* NominalHero: That's what happens when you decide to turn a villain into a hero without justifying or having them atone for any of their past actions.
* RedBaron: He's called the Spirit of Vengeance for a reason.
* {{Retcon}}: From an evil demon to a misguided angel (he was fighting demons and such, just [[HeWhoFightsMonsters doing it wrong]]).
* TheRival: To Mephisto, who after he defeated him had fun watching him struggle for control of human hosts who didn't want anything to do with him.
** RivalTurnedEvil: More like rival turned good, though this took awhile.
* SkullForAHead: His head is a skull wreathed in flames.
* TechnicolorFire: Blue fire when free, orange when he has a human host
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: After he stops being evil, this is his relationship with Johnny Blaze as Ghost Rider.
* VillainTeamup: With Lilith.

[[folder: Danny Ketch]]
!!Danny Ketch

* AntiHero: PragmaticHero, IDidWhatIHadToDo type.
* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: When Zarathos came back, was retconned into a good at heart angel and started making Blaze's Ghost Rider more like his, Dan's dropped Noble Kale and got a new spirit with blue flames so the two could be told apart more easily.
* DeathGlare: The first to use the penance stare.
* FaceHeelTurn: Spent quite a bit acting as Zadkiel's [[TheDragon Lieutenant and Chief Enforcer]] during the 'Heaven's on Fire' story arc. During which Danny hunted down the other Ghost Riders ether killing or [[DePower Depowering]] them till only He & Johnny were left.
* FlechetteStorm: The chain was initially unique to him and he still possess a greater control over it than the other riders, even to the point of breaking it into its individual links and launching them as a cutting barrage.
** He could also make it into a make shift [[BladeOnAStick [=spear=]]].
* MistakenIdentity: Blaze attacks him because he thinks he is Zarathos, the demon that Mephisto put in him, then helped Dan with his situation to make up for it. Dr. Strange and Nightmare also attacked him for the same reason. Vengeance comes after him thinking he is John Blaze.
* ModeLock: Blackout tried to kill him by ripping his throat out. All that did was force him to become the Ghost Rider permanently and thus give him more incentive to kick Blackout's ass.
* PlayingWithFire: He was the first to gain the ability to manipulate natural flames, allowing him to burn that which hell fire cannot.
* {{Revenge}}: Why he accepted being a Ghost Rider so quickly.
* UnwittingPawn: To Zadkiel and Anton Satan.

[[folder: Noble Kale]]
!!Noble Kale

* {{Curse}}: As a result of both Uri-El and Mephisto claiming his soul he's forced to wander between the worlds a spirit. He typically possesses the first born of a certain family to turn them into Ghost Riders, becoming a kind of curse to them too.
* DealWithTheDevil: His soul was offered to Mephisto by his own father!
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: He becomes one in realms like Mephisto's hell, specifically an angel of death. He was originally intended to be made into one by Uri-El before Mephisto got in the way.
* OurSpiritsAreDifferent: He was once a man, now he is a spirit of vengeance. Danny Ketch is his most recent host.
* PowerIncontinence: When on Earth without a host .
* PutOnABus: During the Zadkiel mess.
* ReroutedFromHeaven: Thanks a ''lot'', dad.
* SatanIsGood: When he took over hell, until the demons rebelled and kicked him out.
* YankTheDogsChain: Anything good that happens to him will be overturned or have unintended negative consequences without fail.

[[folder: Naomi Kale]]
!!Naomi Kale

* BikerBabe: Every Ghost Rider up to this point had been a rider, so why would she be any different?
* {{Good Smoking| Evil Smoking}}: Still not good for her but her rider form didn't have to worry about cardio.
* ItRunsInTheFamily: The mother of Johnny Blaze and Danny Ketch. A descendant of Noble Kale, as well as his last host before Danny Ketch.
* OutGambitted: She manages to make Mephisto swear to end "The Curse of Noble Kale". Mephisto instead sticks Zarathos in John. Naomi tried to fight Mephito but he kills her and lets Nobel find his way into her younger son Daniel, since Noble's "curse" was to enter the first born of the generation it technically had ended.
* SpannerInTheWorks:After death her spirit continues to subtly mess with Mephisto and Blackheart's plans.

[[folder: Michael Badilino]]
!!Michael Badilino

* AntiheroSubstitute: He even got to team up with another example of this trope, when Venom was in his "lethal defender" phase.
* BadWithTheBone: His chain was made of bones.
* KilledOffForReal: So it seems. A spirit of vengeance that looks suspiciously similar to his shows up overseas and but doesn't act like him, suggesting Michael is still dead and it has found a new host.
* NinetiesAntiHero: Meant to be the "edgier" counterpart to Danny Ketch/Noble Kale, a walking skeleton wearing a spiky jacket on fire who caused the worst imaginable pain in people just be looking at them...yeah it was only a little plausible because 90s Ghost Rider ''was'' a little nicer than the Blaze version and thus apparently not hardcore enough for the 90s.
* ShapedLikeItself: As a spirit of vengeance he went by the creative moniker of Vengeance.
* SpikesOfVillainy: Bigger where Ghost Rider already had spikes and also spikes coming out of his head
* UnwittingPawn: As caretaker explained, he sold his soul to Mephisto for power he was already going to get anyway. Blackheart also mocks him for being easy to manipulate. The Lilin also had him going for awhile.

[[folder: Alejandra Jones]]
!!Alejandra Jones

* AffirmativeActionLegacy: A Mexican and a woman.
* BizarreSexualDimorphism: In contrast to her original incarnation, Alejandra's transformation in Ghost Racers is rather subdued as she just grows a skull-print mask that covers the lower half of her face. This is in stark contrast to her fellow (and chiefly male) Spirits of Ignition who all look like demonic skeletons of varying make.
* BoringButPractical: Her main strategy in Ghost Racers is to hang back as her rivals duke it out, wait for a prime opening, and activate all her NitroBoost charges at once to get ahead. This makes her one of the least popular of the racers, but it is a valid tactic given that the point of the competition is to place first, not blow up the other indestructible contestants.
* CurbstompBattle: John and Dan, for different reasons, were not as powerful as Ghost Riders when they started out as they were later in their careers. Alejandra was at full power from day one and had a habit mowing through their old enemies and people they wouldn't have been able to beat head on. She nearly kills Skadi, which would have ended the ''Fear Itself'' crossover before it began. This stops once she runs into Blackheart though.
* DistaffCounterpart: Well more like one to Danny Ketch than John Blaze, relishing the chance to take vengeance on the guilty but she spent her time playing off John Blaze.
* PassingTheTorch: She got the torch from John Blaze, who quickly regretted it when Mephisto informed him.
* SinisterScythe: Introduced when she cuts Deathwatch and Blackout with it.
* UnwittingPawn: To Adam, who wanted to use her powers to take over the world, for admittedly philanthropic reasons.

[[folder: Roberto "Robbie" Reyes]]
!!Roberto "Robbie" Reyes

* AffirmativeActionLegacy: Latino-American.
** Neither he nor Eli know what or who the Ghost Rider is though.
* AntiHero: Of the NominalHero variety.
* BackFromTheDead: [[FirstEpisodeSpoiler He gets shot to death and set on fire in first issue]] but immediately comes back as new Ghost Rider.
* BadassDriver: He wasn't the first rider not to be a rider by this point though, just the first to be a main character.
* BadassNormal: Subverted - before getting powers he tries to protect his brother from a gang members with his bare hands, [[RealityEnsues but is unable to do anything once they pull out a gun]] and gets beaten up.
* CivvieSpandex: His racing jumpsuit coincidentally looks like Johnny Blaze's original outfit.
* CoolCar: 1969 Dodge Charger.
* DidntThinkThisThrough: His plan to get Gabe and himself out of East LA? Steal a racing car and win incredibly high prize in underground street race. Once cops start chasing him, he suddenly realizes that if he gets arrested, Gabe will be left completely alone, with nobody to take care of him.
** FreakOut: Result of above realization.
* HiddenDepths: Seems to be a quiet, antisocial tough guy at first, but it quickly becomes apparent he cannot take conditions he and his brother must live in and probably had to quickly grow up. Also, early advertising emphasized "cool underground street racer". Turns out it's not something he does for fun, but a desperate way to earn money to give him and his brother a better life.
* ImplacableMan: He can teleport wherever his car is. The vehicle itself can explode and transport itself elsewhere and it is inexplicably capable of ambushing opponents during fights since it can drive itself.
* ParentalAbandonment: If Eli is to be believed, Robbie and Gabe were abandoned by their parents.
* PrettyBoy: Both males and females in-universe have made comments on how Robbie is really easy on the eyes. Two biker thugs even called him this before trying to mug him. [[NoHoldsBarredBeatdown You can imagine how that turned out for them.]]
* PromotionToParent: He's taking care of his twelve year old brother.
* RedOniBlueOni: Eli might say harsher things, but it's Robbie who has the flaring hot temper.
* SkunkStripe: Looks a bit like a flame.

[[folder: Eli]]

Ghost of a person who was killed in a 1969 Dodge Charger, the same one Robbie drives, they merge to become Ghost Rider.

* [[spoiler: EvilUncle: Turns out he's Robbie's uncle Elias, and directly responsible for Gabe's disabilities.]]
* EvilVersusEvil: He's violent and depraved, but prefers to vent his fury on the wicked.
* HumansAreBastards: With very few exceptions, in his opinion.
* MilesGloriosus: Tries to promote himself as a powerful and diabolical entity that can fulfill Robbie's desires, but transforming him into a Ghost Rider is arguably the only thing he hasn't been haplessly incompetent at doing.
* TheMirrorShowsYourTrueSelf: Manifests to Robbie as reflection of his Ghost Rider form, while he's human.
* {{Revenge}}: Plays this card a lot, while tempting Robbie.

[[folder: Other Ghost Riders]]
!!Bai Gu Jing

!!Baron Skullfire and Marinette Bwa Chech

* AntebellumAmerica: He was a self-freed black man living in the Antebellum South during the AmericanCivilWar. After the war, his family is hounded by a lynch gang who are styled after the proto KKK of the time.
* AntiHero: Borderline VillainProtagonist at points, he doesn't care how many innocents die, as long as he get's the men he's after.
* BloodKnight: A particularly notable case, even amongst the other Ghost Riders. The only thing making him a hero is that the men he's hunting are even worse.
* ColdBloodedTorture: If he has the luxury, he prefers to make his enemies suffer before they die.
* DealWithTheDevil: Like all Ghost Riders, though his was made with spirits from his ancestors homeland in order to protect his family. Unfortunately for him, this Spirit of Vengeance doesn't protect, it can [[ExactWords only take revenge]]. As such, Caleb is given the power only after he is dead, so that he can hunt down his family's killers.
* ForcedToWatch: He was forced to watch as his son's were nailed to a tree and shot to death, all the while taunted as to how he couldn't save them. While this is going on he can hear his wife being raped just a few feet away from him, before she too is killed with a knife. Only then do his captors kills him.
* KillEmAll: All but one person who ever came into contact with him has died a gruesome death. Not always by his hands.
* NominalHero: He is only concerned with his own personal vengeance. If innocents get in the way, [[KillEmAll so be it.]]

* ChainsawGood: Has a chainsaw for a hand.
* CyberPunk: Just take one look at him.
* {{Cyberspace}}: Where most of his adventures take place.
* EyeBeams
* HollywoodHacking: Was a member of the Hotwire Martyrs, a street gang who, in the future world of 2099, use hacking to commit most of their crimes.
* Comicbook/Marvel2099: Was the Ghost Rider of the year 2099.
* NinetiesAntiHero: [[IncrediblyLamePun 2090's!]]

!Supporting Characters

[[folder: Roxanne Simpson]]
!!Roxanne Simpson

* TheCavalry: She is the one who saved Johnny Blaze's soul from Mephisto, even though she couldn't stop him from turning him into the Ghost Rider.
* DistressedDamsel: For John Blaze periodically, until they eventually just killed her off, along with the rest of his family not named Danny Ketch (actually, he just got better).
* GreenThumb:When under Blackheart's control.
* HappilyMarried: To John Blaze eventually.

[[folder: Crash Simpson]]
!!Crash Simpson

[[folder: Uri-El]]

* BaldOfAwesome: No hair whatsoever
* BatmanGambit: He indirectly kills Blackheart and almost brings about Mephisto's defeat without even lifting a finger. This gambit took 200 years before its final payoff and he was not actively involved beyond a general nudging and then letting Mephisto be Mephisto.
* TheCavalry: He gives a then powerless John Blaze his sword so he can kill some supernatural nasty things.
* EnemyMine: Undead MC, a vampire motorcycle gang and Shelob, a gigantic demonic spider, teamed up to kill him but failed.
* FlamingSword: It kind of looks like one but obviously isn't a natural flame.
* HolyBacklight: He is an angel, if a someone demonic looking one
* MonochromaticEyes: Which is more eye detail than Ghost Rider is usually give, to be fair
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: He looks less like any popular depiction of an angel or the way they were described in scripture and more like a bigger, stronger, more complete version of the Ghost Rider, which made sense with [[{{Foreshadowing}} where Noble Kale's story was going]]. It makes even more since with later {{retcon}}s, what doesn't is why the angels introduced after him are standard winged humanoids.
* PowerGlows: He is very shiny
* PublicDomainCharacter[=/=]ArchangelUriel: Though he is not considered "canon" by most Christians, Uriel is an Angel from religious texts and Christian folklore.
* RedBaron: The Angel Of Redemption

[[folder: Barbara Ketch]]
!!Barbara Ketch

[[folder: Stacy Dolan]]
!!Stacy Dolan

* ChildhoodFriendRomance: Was friends with Danny for years before they started dating sometime before he became Ghost Rider.
* FairCop: A very attractive women and one of New York's finest.

[[folder: Caretaker]]

* BuriedAlive: There are apparently many evil beings trapped beneath his cemetery, the [[ToServeMan man eating]] people of dust are confirmed to be down there because they temporarily escaped and tried to eat the Night Stalkers.
* CoolBike: His "ancient motorcycle".
* CoolOldGuy: He doesn't look ''that'' old but he is.
** CrustyCaretaker: He certainly acts his age though.
* GlowingEyesOfDoom: When calling upon his reserves of super strength his eyes glow red.
* MentorOccupationalHazard: He is killed by one of Danny Ketch's enemies.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: A member of the blood tasked with keeping an eye on the vengeance spirit that came for a certain medallion. The one that happened to bond with Danny Ketch.
* CoolGuns/{{Rifle|s}}: His secondary weapon. He usually does not need it, as he has class 25 strength, that is, he can lift and hold ''25 tons'' over his head with minimal strain.
* SecretUndergroundPassage: He has several.
* ShovelStrike: His main fighting style

[[folder: Mary Le Bow]]
!!Mary Le Bow

* AllLoveIsUnrequited: She has feelings for Danny, but he doesn't seem to reciprocate.
* CassandraTruth: She knew that Elevenus was working for Zadkiel and Zadkiel's true intent with Danny. Unfortunately, he's too caught up in chasing his "fix" to listen.
* CharacterDeath: Elevenus stabs her and she's sent to a sort of limbo. However, he says he's working on finding her a body, since he's not a dick.
* FashionableAsymmetry: One side of her head has a short haircut with black hair, the other is shaven and white
* {{Technopath}}: Uses a form of magic called "technomancy" that uses technology as a medium.

[[folder: Sister Sara]]
!!Sister Sara

* BadassPreacher: Though not her first choice usually, Sara can kick a lot of ass.
* BikerBabe: Surprised? Well she was not exactly this trope at first but now that she has the Caretaker's knowledge, this was only expected to follow.
* FieryRedhead: Though a naive and sheltered one
* ForegoneConclusion: She's seen spirits of vengeance from the future, who ensured her Zadkiel (who had taken over heaven at the time) would be defeated, eventually.
* GoodIsNotSoft: As we learn when someone tries to take advantage of this kind, sheltered thing.
* KatanasAreBetter: Her main weapon.
* LegacyCharacter: Becomes the Caretaker after her grandfather.
* MissionFromGod: She sought out Caretaker, believing she had dreams of a "grand father" God wanted her to meet. It turns out God actually meant [[ExactWords her grandfather]].
* {{Revenge}}: Against the Deacon who murdered her convent and the gun nuns. She did not kill him though, just kicked his ass and let the police take him to prison.
* TeleportersAndTransporters: Anton Satan used her to access Heaven and send an army of demons at it.

[[folder: Ba'al]]

* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: He's green.
* BeardOfEvil[=/=]BaldOfEvil:The amount of hair he has varies from very little to none at all.
* CompositeCharacter: Of the various Ba'als, Ba'al Hadad is where his powers come from, the blood spilling of his followers comes from Ba'al Hammon, the association with the Gehenna refuse dump is probably from Ba'al Berith or Ba'al Peor and the degeneration into a demon is of course from medieval demonology.
* DemonicPossession:Not often, he only did so out of necessity when most of his body was destroyed.
* ElementalPowers: Worshiped as a storm god, it is to be expected.
** BlowYouAway: Which can help him move around too
** MakingASplash: Not that it would be much use against Ghost Rider but great for his crop growing followers when he was less of an evil bastard than he is now.
** ShockAndAwe: ''Green'' electricity sometimes to match the rest of him
* EvilerThanThou: The tetrarchs of entropy, old foes of the Avengers, briefly show up while he is trapped in the same dimension they are and try to escape at the same time he does but Ba'al shoves them back in. This did not turn out so well for him later when a Windigo sided with John Blaze against him. Ba'al would not have had any trouble defeating Blaze if he was alone, since Blaze could not become a Ghost Rider at the time.
* FirstLawOfResurrection: {{God}} gave mankind the ability to kill him and the deed was done. Then he showed up again because an author still wanted to use him.
* {{Hell}}: Just for pun, the actual valley of Gehenna was where the Hand Of God beat him down. Gehenna being a garbage dump site that was metaphorically compared to hell.
* IHaveManyNames: Hadad is among the most popular of them.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Yeah, he is bad news
* RoguesGalleryTransplant: Originally an enemy of Wolverine.
* TotallyNotAWerewolf: The Ba'alim, his followers, are known for drinking blood and are sometimes granted special powers but they are not vampires.

[[folder: Blackheart]]

* AbusiveParents: When you are the son of Mephisto, this is a given (though it should be stressed that Blackheart was born evil, so this isn't a FreudianExcuse at all). His first story ends with Mephisto squishing him- literally, and more than once-, then depowering him when Blackheart still kept annoying him. His next two ended with Mephisto actually ''eating'' him. In the latter two cases, Mephisto regarded it as ToughLove.
* AntagonisticOffspring / ArchnemesisDad: Most of his plots are schemes to usurp Mephisto. He got steadily better at it until eventually, he succeeded...and then [[StatusQuoIsGod he lost it again.]]
* AntiMagic: Ghost Rider's Penance Stare does not work on him. Weak magic spells aren't going to fare much better.
* BlackMagic: Being a demon, he knows this stuff instinctively.
* CallingTheOldManOut: Several times. Mephisto never listens.
* TheChessmaster: Not quite as good as he would like to be, but he plays a mean game.
* TheCorrupter: He often tries to turn heroes into his minions to use against Mephisto.
* CurbStompBattle: Blackheart supposedly beat Toxin ( the "son" of Carnage) to death "in a gutter". Considering how powerful Toxin is, that's quite a feat.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Blackheart unquestionably is rotten to the core, but the Darkforce power he often taps into (and is partially made out of) is just that, a force. Many creatures, good and evil, have made use of it. Then again, the Darkforce has always been portrayed as AmbiguouslyEvil itself.
* DimensionLord: Temporarily succeeded in overthrowing his father and reigned in Hell. He is also able to tap into the power of the Darkforce dimension; within it, he is actually TheOmnipotent.
* EvilCounterpart: He's fond of creating or setting up people to act as these.
* EvilSmellsBad: He has an unpleasant odour about him, with Daredevil describing it as burning roses.
* FirstLawOfResurrection: He's actually died a couple of times only to return with no explanation.
** He died several times in his first few appearances. He kept coming back because [[ResurrectiveImmortality like his father, that is actually one of his powers.]]
* {{Flanderization}}: A scary, philosophical villain who utilized a great deal of PsychologicalHorror in his first couple of appearances, he is nowadays often written as a bit of a LargeHam and CardCarryingVillain- almost the opposite of the [[TheStoic quiet, stoical]], WhatIsEvil approach he adopted originally.
* HellOnEarth: He's tried to cause it at least once.
* HumansAreSpecial: Villainous, condescending example. He very much considers humans to be his inferiors; at the same time, he admires our capacity for independence and free will, and believes he understands our moral complexities better than Mephisto does. He once freely admitted that he envies us, though only because we had more free will than him (ie. his father kept him on a tight leash).
* MadeOfEvil: Centuries worth of sins collected from the "Christ's Crown" area were used by Mephisto to bring him to life. This is what makes him immune to the penance stare, experiencing all the evil he's caused doesn't really bother him since he's made of the stuff. He can still be hurt by simpler, more direct methods though.
* ManipulativeBastard: He spends surprising little time getting his own hands dirty, despite saying that Mephisto is too passive. But he is a bit more interactive and personal about it.
* NighInvulnerability: He has been crushed, squished, eaten, cut, stabbed, sliced, machine-gunned...you name it. He always recovers. Even if you do somehow kill him, all you will do is send him back to Hell so he will come back anyway. If he dies ''in'' Hell, he just recovers even faster.
** [[spoiler: He is apparently heavily affected by ComicBook/MilesMorales' [[ElectricBlackGuy Venom blast]], [[SignatureMove as is common of people who face him]].]]
* OverlordJr: He's not Mephisto's biological son, technically, but still takes after his father's oppressive, expansionist ways.
* ThePhilosopher: He used to do a lot of musing on the nature of things like free will and evil. He quickly concluded that he knew more about it than his dad did.
* PsychicPowers: A power he has but most demons do not, including his father. It gives him a bit of an edge, but its not brought up much and he can't use it to force somebody to sign over their soul without crossing some metaphysical lines.
** MasterOfIllusion: He can conjure nightmarish images to torment others or trick them into evil actions (eg. he once made Daredevil beat up an innocent man by pretending that he, Blackheart, was that man in disguise).
** MindControl: He can both spread a HatePlague or outright enslave any mind he chooses.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Most of the time, sometimes they are blue but really, take warning.
** Originally, he had ''no'' eyes.
* RoguesGalleryTransplant: Just like his dad Mephisto, Blackheart initially was a villain from another Marvel superhero. In his case, Comicbook/{{Daredevil}}.
** He was introduced in Daredevil, but Comicbook/{{Spiderman}} showed up to help Murdock out. He was only really a Daredevil villain for one StoryArc; he has crossed paths with pretty much every Marvel hero since then. In his second appearance he's already moved on from the Man Without Fear and chose instead to target {{Wolverine}}, ThePunisher and Danny Ketch Ghost Rider. He's only really a Ghost Rider villain by virtue of crossing paths with them a little bit more than everyone else.
* SelfDuplication: In his second story he tried to make three separate [[DealWithTheDevil deals]] with Punisher, Danny Ketch and Wolverine. When all three rejected him, it was revealed he was talking to each of them all at the same time in three different locations.
* TheStarscream: To his father.
* TookALevelInBadass: At one point he managed to finally defeat Mephisto and ruled as prince of his domain; consequently, [[AuthorityEqualsAsskicking his powers increased dramatically.]] Of course, [[StatusQuoIsGod it didn't last]].
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Though he rarely takes the form of anything that is not black and spiny.
** In one of his first appearances, he took the form of an angel. He can certainly appear however he wishes to.
* WhatIsEvil: He was initially written as interested in the nature of evil and sometimes resorted to appeals to morally grey arguments.
* YouAreGrounded: Mephisto once banished him to Earth to humble him.
* YouAreWhatYouHate: Several characters have pointed out that he is more like Mephisto than he likes to admit.
* YoureInsane: In his second appearance Danny Ketch thought he was crazy; he wasn't the last.
* YourSoulIsMine: He will sometimes try to forcibly extract a soul, rather than make a deal for it like Mephisto.

[[folder: Blackout]]

* AndYourLittleDogToo: Because he can't actually beat Ghost Rider, he targets people associated with him.
* CastingAShadow: He has the power to suppress light sources, but isn't powerful enough to shut off the Ghost Rider's fire.
* EatsBabies: This is what causes Vengeance to turn on him when he and some other lilin tried to buy him off.
* EvilAlbino: Most lilin are albino and well, he takes after his ancestor in personality
* FirstLawOfResurrection: He is burnt to death by the Ghost Rider yet shows up during civil war with no explanation.
* HalfHumanHybrid: Half lilin.
* HiredGuns: He works as an assassin, muscle or whatever else you pay for.
* ScarsAreForever: Averted but he did hold a grudge against Ghost Rider for burning his face (because he was dumb enough to try and bite a flaming skeleton).
* StarterVillain: For Danny Ketch, introduced in issue #2 of his book. Blackout really wasn't a big threat to Ghost Rider then and Ghost Rider only got stronger as his story went on through the midnight sons arc while Blackout's been stagnant.

[[folder: Centurious]]

* TheAgeless: He has white hair though.
* ArchEnemy: To Zarathos.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Later on.
* EmotionlessBoy: Perhaps a side effect of his soul lacking
* EvilSorcerer: He has to have magic or something similar to be able to fight Zarathos and, well, he is evil
* LifeDrain: To keep his lifespan going, though he does not need to do it extensively. Just every now and then.
** YourSoulIsMine: As if the above wasn't enough. The life energy is for food, the soul is for his magic powers, or something like that.
* TheSoulless: So no penance stare here. This was supposed to be his gimmick, not Blackheart's.
* WalkingWasteland: His presence withers plants.

[[folder: Deacon]]

* ArchEnemy: To Sister Sara, the second Caretaker.
* BadassPreacher: SubvertedTrope. He's not really a deacon, just a HolyHitman.
* CruelMercy: Sara refuses to kill him, instead leaving him with total paralysis when he is taken in by the police.
* HolyHitman: Claims to be following the path of angels (and technically, [[FallenAngel he isn't wrong]]), but is a mass murderer.
* PoliticallyIncorrectVillain: Very misogynist.
* TattooedCrook: Has many tattoos on his [[WalkingShirtlessScene shirtless]] body.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Never wears a shirt.

[[folder: Deathwatch]]

* AndYourLittleDogToo:Tries to kill Danny Ketch and his already hospitalized sister because of their connection to the Ghost Rider.
* CoolMask: More literal than most as, Deathwatch has little reason to hide his identity
* DamnItFeelsGoodToBeAGangster: Having fun with organized crime is pretty much his entire reason for being on Earth.
* EvilTastesGood:If anybody ever deserved to die by the penance stare, it was him. He feeds off of other people's pain though so Ghost Rider decides to just kill him in a more simplistic manner. Alejandra later shows the penance stare is capable of hurting him but also ends up settling on a more simplistic finish.
* FirstLawOfResurrection: Ghost Rider kills him, yet he shows up again after Civil War. Two of his minions did want to resurrect him but didn't know how and since they haven't showed up since it is doubtless the writers even remember.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: Ghost Rider does this with his chain to kill him.
* TheMusketeer: In line with his love of ninjas he still uses a sword in the modern era. Of course he really needs guns more.
* NotEvenHuman: He looks like us but he aint us. This is revealed pretty early however and not needed as justification for killing him. His actions would have eventually caused Ghost Rider to take him out regardless of species.
* VillainTeamup:With The Hood, a fan of super villains despite living in a world where super villains and their crimes are very real. Perfect partner for Deatwatch when you see the other tropes that apply to him though.

[[folder: Highwayman]]

* KillItWithFire: Seems to be the only way to truly put him down. And even that's only temporary.
* RoguesGalleryTransplant: Started out as a villain in the obscure ''U.S. 1'' trucker comic from TheSeventies. Due to the close proximity between trucker and biker culture, his transition to Ghost Rider villain was quite appropriate.

[[folder: Kazaan]]

* FallenAngel

[[folder: Lilith]]

* {{Atlantis}}:She hung around there long ago but was banished long before its sinking.
** SummonBiggerFish: This was accomplished by calling on Tiamat(or the Leviathan, depending on whose penciling the story) and having her(or it) eat Lilith.
* BigBad: She is what drove the midnight sons together.
* CompositeCharacter: The primary source seems to be the Akkadian Kisikillillake but she also draws from various Sumerian Lilitu and depictions of Lilith in [[WordOfDante Judo-Christian apocrypha]], including not being the only one.
* DeflectorShields: To the point she can cover the moon and isolate entire nations from the rest of the Earth!
* DivideAndConquer: She hires the [[VampireDetective Night Stalkers]], who would have been helpful in taking her down, to take down John Blaze and Danny Ketch.
* DreamWeaver: She can projector herself into the dreams of other people at the very least. She's done it to Danny Ketch.
* EatsBabies: A rumor used to get people to baptize their children, but considering the source, there was probably some truth in it-she's eaten her own babies to restore her vitality.
* EvilAlbino: This may not have always been the case, her disposition and her skin color, being a cosmic being whose affronts to God caused her to degenerate into a demon.
* IHaveManyNames: Kiskillilla is popular too but there are many to choose from.
* MonsterProgenitor: What she currently is, even though her kids, the lilin, aren't identical they usually get killed off before they get too abnormal or large in number.
* MotherOfAThousandYoung: She aims to be one anyway.
* OneSteveLimit: Dracula's daughter has the same name and has encountered many of the same characters. There is rarely any confusion because the other Lilith is much more pleasant.
* RedBaron: Mother of Demons.
* TotallyNotAWerewolf: She has pale skin and drinks like a vampire so some have mistaken her for one. She is also known for attempting seduce people in their dreams, which leads some to mistake her for a succubus. She's worse than both.
** OurVampiresAreDifferent: She was also accused of being involved in the creation of the vampires belonging to Varne's line(more commonly known as Dracula's line).
* VillainousWidowsPeak: You'll be forgiven for thinking she has horns at first glance.

[[folder: Lucifer]]

* BackFromTheDead: Does this for people in mass when he gets out of hell. He does this just to have bodies though, he does not have as much use as one would think for their identities or anything.
* BatmanGambit: He tortures those in his hell even more than just being there already does to give them more incentive to escape, figuring maybe if someone else manages to get out, he can follow them. It finally works when he snares a Ghost Rider.
** DidntThinkThisThrough: [[spoiler:Who later drags him back, kicking and screaming.]]
* BiggerBad: Somehow his activities fall under the radar during Civil War and World War Hulk, even though he could do more damage than both combined.
* ColdBloodedTorture: Besides having demons tear apart John Blaze every day, he also forced [[PokeThePoodle Greexix to deepen a pit for the rest of eternity]]. When an accident causes Greexix to go blind though, Lucifer decided to torture him for real. After Zadkiel's attempt to take over heaven gets him sent to hell, Lucifer takes joy in torturing him too.
* DemonicPossession: Most hell lords are not that into it but he is.
* TheDevilIsALoser: Unlike other hell-lords or fallen angels he is stuck in hell unless he can trick someone to release him. In his few appearances, he lacks the cunning or sophistication of Mephisto making him vulgar. He has no grander scheme then mass destruction. Worst of all, he is outsmarted repeatedly by Johnny Blaze.
* EvilIsPetty: A number of his actions were rather juvenile such as threatening to blow up a building to drive insurance rates up after being outsmarted by Blaze (before being outsmarted again.)
* FallenAngel: He was once a champion for good, though it is unclear if he was the one who chased the N'Garai away when [[ElderGods Cthun]] launched them at heaven or if it was Marduk Curios(worked together?). Since Marduk is the villain of a different comic, [[DependingOnTheWriter Lucifer will get all the credit if you're reading a Ghost Rider story.]]
** [[ContinuitySnarl And some comics]] say he ''is'' Marduk Curios, even though that character has (or at least claims) a completely different origin story and can exit his realm without help.
* GreenEyedMonster:The real reason he rebelled against heaven is because he was sick of all the love God was giving to the puny, sinful humans.
* HornedHumanoid:Sometimes, he does not need to have them but likes to look it can be assumed
* KillAllHumans: An idea he's been tempted to try but hasn't gone through with yet.
* LegionsOfHell: Not nearly enough to usually accomplish his goals though.
* LightIsNotGood:Contractually obligated.
* ManipulativeBastard: Tries to be, but not nearly as good at it as other hell-lords like Mephisto, Dormammu or Zadikel considering Blaze outsmarted him several times in a row.
* MotherOfAThousandYoung: Possibly a father, he's supposedly created numerous demons but it can be reasoned he's not the source of all of them, maybe not even the original source of them but who knows.
* NotSoDifferent:Tries this on Ghost Rider after they end up in the spot where Blaze made his deal with Mephisto.
* NumberOfTheBeast: Since his re-entry to Earth split him into six hundred and sixty six different fragments, which is just fine with him, as he isn't omnipresent. The Ghost Rider sets about destroying all the fragments but each time one is killed, all the others get stronger, Lucifer figuring he will eventually be powerful enough to defeat whoever targets him. If the fragments aren't killed off, he gets to cover more ground.
** MesACrowd: They even joke and scheme amongst themselves
* {{Pride}}: Also pretty much required, although he is not the worst in this area.
* PublicDomainCharacter[=/=]CompositeCharacter: He is based both on Christian (though the name Lucifer is the result of a mistranslation) and Islamic ([[WordOfDante Sufi specifically]]) texts.
* {{Satan}}: He claims to be but many other lords of hell dispute it, some have apparently been at it longer than him. The fact that many religious scholars (even in real life) argue that Lucifer and Satan are not the same entity doesn't help.
** IronicHell: After getting kicked out of heaven he wanted to become the lord of hell but unlike everyone else competing for that title he can't escape his own realm without help. Even when he gets out, he's effectively trapped as soon as someone sticks him back in. Even his former subordinate and fellow fallen angel Asmodeus had more freedom than him in this regard, despite being much weaker.
* StupidEvil: Engages in murder and mayhem to try and get Ghost Rider to kill his splintered selves to form one full-powered Lucifer, but when outmaneuvered prone in engaging in evil acts to try and get back at Ghost Rider even if doing so damnes that part or all of him back to hell.
* VoluntaryShapeShifting: Combine this with demonic possession and the ability to have multiple bodies out in the world at once and you have a real source of paranoia.

[[folder: Mephisto]]

He has [[ComicBook/{{Mephisto}} his own page]].

[[folder: Night Terror]]
!!Night Terror

* FashionableAsymmetry: One side of his head is shaved, the other is in dreadlocks.
* GhostMemory: He can see another person's memories by drinking their blood.
* ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice: When Ghost Rider finally catches him. It doesn't kill him but slows him down enough to be caught in an explosion that took out the building they were in. Unfortunately for Ghost Rider, that didn't kill him either. Seems Danny Ketch and Kale weren't too familiar with vampire weaknesses.
* MisanthropeSupreme: He didn't choose to become a vampire, but this is why Steppin Razor decided to turn him.
* MuggingTheMonster: How he first meets Ghost Rider.
* NotQuiteFlight: As a member of the Varnae/Dracula line of vampires, he can turn into mist but he also has a nonstandard ability to levitate. Not enough to really fly but enough to stand on and jump off things that really shouldn't support his weight.
* RoguesGalleryTransplant: He started out as a foe of Ghost Rider but he became more important in Comicbook/{{Blade}}'s stories, where he was finally finished off.
* ScaryBlackMan: Though he has to prove it first, as the goofy haircut is kind of disarming
* SunglassesAtNight: He might need to, since Blade does too. Or maybe he just likes to, as Steppin Razor did not need them.

[[folder: Orb]]
!!Orb I

* EvilFormerFriend: Used to be Crash Thompson's friend before his face was disfigured.
* EyeBeams: Unlike the second Orb, he can fire these.
* [[FacelessGoons Face Concealing Helmet]]: His giant eye is really just a large helmet to cover his disfigured face.
* IWasQuiteTheLooker: Used to be quite handsome before an accident horribly mutilated his face, hence why he wears a mask.

!!Orb II

* EyesDoNotBelongThere: His head is a giant eyeball. [[PlayedForLaughs He's very self conscious about it.]]
* JokeCharacter: Every one of his appearances. Sometimes, however, like during Comicbook/OriginalSin he can shift into [[NotSoHarmlessVillain something else]].
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: In one story, while robbing a bank, he has his henchmen remove all of the eyes from the hostages. [[EyeScream And they do]], handing him a bag full of eyes as they're about to leave.
** And [[PlayedForLaughs subverted]] two seconds later as he loudly proclaims he will use the eyes to get revenge on Ghost Rider. How does he plan to do this? [[DidNotThinkThisThrough He hasn't thought that far ahead.]] Cue face palm from his goons and the reader.
* TookALevelInBadass: During the Comicbook/OriginalSin crossover, he serves as one of the primary antagonists.

[[folder: Scarecrow]]

* AxCrazy: He has a poor grasp on reality, is horrifically violent and does not need much reason to try and kill anyone. He does not use an axe though.
* {{Contortionist}}: Started out as a mere rag doll practitioner who used his skill to appear to be inanimate and thus deflect suspicion from his crimes.
* DependingOnTheWriter: He schizophrenically zig-zags between being a monster and a borderline joke.
* EmotionEater: He feeds off people's fear.
* FreudianExcuse: Was abused by his mother as a child.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: A pitch fork.
* NotSoHarmlessVillain: Started off as a goofy ComicBook/IronMan villain in UsefulNotes/{{the Silver Age|of Comic Books}}, but becomes a serial killer when he becomes a ''Ghost Rider'' villain in the 1990s.
* RoguesGalleryTransplant: As noted above, he originally started out as an Iron Man villain. Later, he switched to becoming a ComicBook/CaptainAmerica villain for a while. When he went on a killing spree to try and attract Cap's attention, he ended up getting Ghost Rider's instead.
* ScaryScarecrows: Not to be confused with Batman's Scarecrow, though some Spider-man comics had him using "fear pheromones", which suggests some writers and editors at Marvel did.
* SerialKiller: Though one who chooses victims that draw attention to himself. If not for his being a (sort of)super powered being with no regard for victim's suffering he would probably be a pretty unsuccessful serial killer.
* WouldHurtAChild: Kills both children and adults.

[[folder: Skin Bender]]
!!Skin Bender

* AffectionateParody: Of anime character designs, specifically MagicalGirl series.
** The works of Creator/JunjiIto as well. The story is littered with background references to Manga/{{Uzumaki}} and Manga/{{Gyo}} to name a few. As well, Skin Bender's powers allow her to basically create all of the BodyHorror that his works are most famous for.
* BodyHorror: Her power. She is able to "bend" the flesh of others into anything she desires. Some examples include combining peoples bodies with those of fish, twisting people into spirals, and combining groups of people together into Cronenberg-esque masses of flesh.
** She herself also qualifies, with her giant translucent eyes, long spindly fingers, giant head, thigh-length hair, GagBoobs, and elongated skeleton.
* DeconstructiveParody: She looks like a character from [[Anime/SailorMoonCrystal Sailor Moon]] if they really existed, with all of the inhuman proportions kept in.
* {{Grimmification}}: In appearance, at least, she is a grimmified version of [[Manga/SailorMoon Sailor Venus]].
* InLoveWithYourCarnage: Upon seeing the Ghost Rider, she instantly wants to [[IncrediblyLamePun jump his bones]].
* NightmareFetishist: Judging by her facial expressions throughout, there is most likely something sexual to her about her "skin bending". When she is unable to bend Johnny's flesh, she get's very upset, and the way she [[DoubleEntendre phrases it]] makes it sound like Johnny just turned her down for sex.
** When Johnny finally becomes the Ghost Rider, she falls to her knees in tears: he's the [[InLoveWithYourCarnage most beautiful creature she's ever seen]]. She crawls over to him, kneels before him [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnyThing in a submissive position]], and begs for his "touch". He proceeds to burn her to death, with her exclaiming all the while [[TooKinkyToTorture how good it feels]].
* NotQuiteDead: After being incinerated to hell by Johnny, it's later revealed that she yet survives, albeit reduced to a smoldering chunk of flesh. The issue ends with her attacking a random victim in order to begin regenerating her old form.
* TooKinkyToTorture: Johnny burns her alive so she'll die slow and in agony. Her [[ImmodestOrgasm screams]] aren't the kind he was expecting.

[[folder: Skinner]]

[[folder: Steel Wind]]
!!Steel Wind

[[folder: Zadkiel]]

* AGodAmI: He had more pride than Lucifer!
* CessationOfExistence: He goes about wiping people on Earth out of existence to prove his godhood to other people.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He leads a squad of Black Hosts, large dark and intimidating figures who look like many depictions of fallen angels. But only the ones he leads are bad, most of them are good guys despite their appearance.
* InfernalParadise: With Zadkiel in charge heaven is worse than any hell anyone else had managed to come up with.
* ManipulativeBastard: By way of retroactive continuity he could be argued to behind Lilith's release and the Midnight Sons story arc, as well as the cause of the depression that allowed him to manipulate Dan in his own story arc.
* OurAngelsAreDifferent: He isn't as odd looking as Zarathos or Uri-El but not as pretty as the angels introduced between them and him like Ruth.
** FallenAngel: He may be evil, he may want to take over heaven for himself, but he's still dedicated to slaying demons and the forces of hell.
* PublicDomainCharacter: Mythological Zadkiel is not a villain or even mean at all. Even less so for the Zadkiel who is a figure in religions still being practiced today. He might have just been chosen for being obscure.
* RewardedAsATraitorDeserves: He rebelled against heaven along with Lucifer but then betrayed Lucifer and sided back with heaven. His peers were not impressed and demoted him from the rank of Arch Angel.
* TheCaptain: He used to be in charge of the spirits of vengeance as well as a black host.
* WingedHumanoid: White birds wings

!Neutral Characters

[[folder: Anton Satan]]
!!Anton Satan

* AntiChrist: One of Satan's many children, Anton is the only one so far to be directly referred to as the Anti-Christ. This has more to do with the fact that (aside from Hellstrom) he is the only one of those children still alive more than anything. Still, he ''is'' the son of Satan, which makes him an all around dick.
* CorruptCorporateExecutive: Well, he ''is'' the Anti-Christ. Goes so far as to threaten to sell his employees children's organs if they don't stop slacking off.
* DirtyKid: Openly gropes Sara and calls her a "feisty Catholic" when she forces him to stop.
* EnemyMine: Because Zadkiel had taken over Heaven, the Ghost Rider's needed allies in all the places they could get. Seeing as Zadkiel's agents were gunning for him too, he begrudgingly agrees to go along with them.
* ItsPronouncedTroPay: Suh-tan. It's Czechoslovakian.

[[folder: Hoss]]

* AffablyEvil: To a certain degree. He loves John Wayne and singing along to country songs while [[GoodOlBoy driving with the top down]]. When Johnny's bike is stolen by Ruth, Hoss not only gives him a lift, but offers him a beer too. Subverted, however, in that he ''is'' a demon, and will [[FateWorseThanDeath shove your head up your ass]] if you scratch his car.
* AteHisGun: How he claims to have died originally, shooting himself as a young man out of embarrassment after being caught [[ADateWithRosiePalms getting intimate with his mother's undergarments]].
* AttackOfTheMonsterAppendage: Uses a giant tentacle as a weapon. Said tentacle also happens to be his... [[GagPenis well, you know.]]
* CountryMusic: He carries a wide selection in his glove compartment, and sings along to all of them.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Subverted: While he may come off as kind and jovial, he's evil, he knows he's evil, he loves being evil, and any demon who doesn't feel the same is a liar.
* FatBastard: Just look at him.
* GoodOlBoy: A dark parody version, seeing as he is a demon.
* MotorMouth: He never shut's up, though considering he's surrounded by a cast of [[TheStoic stoics]], who can blame him?
* OedipusComplex: Possibly. He claims to have shot himself after being caught with his mother's [[PantyThief underwear.]]
* OrderVsChaos: He explains that while Hell and demons may seem chaotic at a glance, and many of their ways don't seem to make sense, there is a fine order to it. He specifically sites how people like [[spoiler: Kazaan]] are dangerous because they want to shake things up, and while to an outside observer like Johnny it may seem as simple as trading one Hell for another, in reality it means the total collapse of the afterlife.
* PunchClockVillain: As he explains to Johnny after the latter attacks him, he may be one of Hell's bounty hunter's, but that doesn't mean he's after Johnny. He has a job to do, and as long as Johnny isn't working for [[spoiler: Kazaan]] then there's no reason they can't get along.
* StatusQuo: Wants things just the way they are.

[[folder: Malachi]]

* TheDreaded: So much so that Malachi, a fellow angel, is so terrified of her that he is willing to bust Johnny Blaze out of Hell under the slim chance that the Ghost Rider ''might'' be fast enough to catch [[spoiler: Kazaan]] before she does. When he is notified that Hoss is also on the trail and that he and Johnny have teamed up, he says it doesn't matter so long as they succeed before Ruth does.
** His fears end up being justified, as once the truth comes out about [[spoiler: Kazaan, she tears his wings off and leaves him trapped in Hell to suffer for all eternity.]] It's left ambiguous if she was being [[CruelAndUnusualDeath merciful]] or not.
* EstablishingCharacterMoment: We first meet her sitting in a bus stop diner next to a young boy and his mother. The boy, having "the sight" tells his mother that the woman next to them is an angel. The mother tells her son not to make up stories and apologizes to Ruth. Ruth then locks eyes with the boy and, making a sign with her hand, gets up to leave. The boy, with a look of terror on his face, tells his mother that he is a sinner while [[EyeScream pointing a pencil at his eyes]]. The mother's screams of terror can be heard as Ruth exits the diner.
* GoodIsNotNice: See above.
* ImplacableMan: No matter what gets thrown at her, she doesn't even slow down.
* InvincibleVillain: To those who stand in her way.
* LightIsNotGood: Despite being an angel, she mercilessly and emotionlessly slaughters dozens of people all so she can get to her target.
* MookHorrorShow: Bullets, grenades, rockets; nothing works against this un-killable woman, as the local security forces learn the hard way. It gets even worse when she starts killing them [[GrievousHarmWithABody with each other]].
* NotSoDifferent: [[spoiler: Ruth and Hoss, an angel and a demon, end up forming a working partnership that suits both of their interests and grants them likely promotions in their ranks, despite Kazaan and Malachi, the ones who they were sent to capture, both doing the exact same thing.]] The irony isn't lost on them, but as Hoss points out, it [[LifeIsntFair doesn't really matter in the end]].
* TheStoic: Doesn't say a word and rarely smiles.
