Dark guilds are guilds in the ''Manga/FairyTail'' series that act without consent of the Magic Council. They are mainly all criminal organizations, and serve as antagonists in the series.

''Here be spoilers.''

[[{{Characters/FairyTail}} Back to the main character index]]
----
[[foldercontrol]]

!!Balam Alliance

[[folder:Oración Seis]]
One of the three most powerful dark guilds that make up the Balam Alliance, which unites the dark guilds. Though it is one of the smallest guilds in the series, comprised of only six members, it lives up to its strength, forcing Fairy Tail to team up with three other official guilds just to fight it. This guild seeks Nirvana, an ancient magic that switches light with darkness.

In the anime-exclusive, post-TimeSkip "Key of the Starry Heavens" {{filler}} arc, most of the members of Oración Seis return with a few new additions, becoming the "Reborn Oración Seis". Their goal is to assemble the Infinity Clock, an artifact that distorts one's perception of time in order to instill chaos throughout the world.

They're later freed from prison, but they apparently don't have a single goal now; instead, each member seems to have a individual goal.
----
* DarkAndTroubledPast: The members of this guild (sans Brain) are all former child slaves from the Tower of Heaven.
* DealWithTheDevil: They made one during the Key To The Starry Sky arc. [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse It's never revealed who the Devil is.]]
* GratuitousSpanish: "Oración Seis" literally means "[[MeaningfulName Six Prayers]]."
* MeaningfulName: Each member's name is a codename that pertains to his or her personality and talent.
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: All of them except for Brain have had their real names revealed, but they apparently don't like them being spoken aloud.
* [[RecurringCharacter Recurring Characters]]: They've shown up in more than one arc.
* ShoutOut: To ''Manga/RaveMaster'''s Oración Seis (in name only, though).
* TragicDream: Most of their prayers are outright unachievable.

!!Brain / Zero

The master of Oración Seis. He seeks the legendary magic Nirvana to destroy the official wizard guilds in the world and create a new world order. He has a split personality named Zero, who just wants to destroy everything.

He's later betrayed by Cobra, to the apathy of every other member of the guild.

->Voiced by: Creator/TetsuInada (JP), Philip Weber (EN)
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown
** ColorFailure: Zero is pale. PlayedForDrama.
* ArcVillain: Of the Nirvana arc.
* AxCrazy: Zero
* BadassLongcoat
* BloodKnight: Zero. He loves destruction and greatly enjoyed his fight with Natsu.
* ChunkyUpdraft: As Zero, in the anime.
* DarkIsEvil: His magic fires ghostly apparitions.
* DarkSkinnedBlond
* DiskOneFinalBoss: Zig-zagged for when Brain becomes Zero, who is the real ArcVillain.
* EtTuBrute: Cobra betrayed him the moment Cobra secured Oración Seis' freedom. Then again Brain ''did'' tried to kill Cobra during the ''Nirvana'' incident. Unlikely that he would just let that go.
* EvilAlbino: As Zero.
* EvilGenius: There's a reason he's called "Brain".
* EvilMentor: To Jellal.
* ForTheEvulz: Zero loves to destroy everything with a physical form.
* GenericDoomsdayVillain: He has very little characterization compared to other [[ArcVillain Arc Villains]]. Zero practically invokes this trope, claiming that he needs no reason for his actions.
* GeniusBruiser
* TheManBehindTheMan: As the leader of his guild, he's technically behind Eisenwald, Naked Mummy, and several other dark guilds.
* NonActionBigBad: He is far from weak. But his only offense magic is projected from his staff. All his other types just go to show his name, Brain, is not for show and that he is seriously smart to have so many different types of magic. One of which he invented and another of which is extremely rare.
** Zero is clearly the one more adept at combat magic and utilizing his magic power for destruction.
* OmnicidalManiac: Zero has no motivation or plans beyond destroying anything and everything he encounters.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: As Zero.
* ReverseArmFold: Zero.
* SealedEvilInACan: Brain sealed Zero away with Organic Link magic powered by the strongest desires of the other Oración Seis members. Zero comes out when all six are defeated.
* SimpleStaff: Which isn't so simple after all.
* SlasherSmile
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: A good number of scanlations call him "Blaine".
* TheStoic: [[NotSoStoic Until he turns into]] [[AxCrazy Zero]].
* SuperpoweredEvilSide: When the six main members are defeated, Brain's other personality, Zero, takes control.
* TattooedCrook: Has tattoos all across his face. They are magic "keys" that seal away his SuperpoweredEvilSide.
* UnderestimatingBadassery: Jura had been incapacitated by Angel when the Light Team was initially [[CurbStompBattle trashed]] by Oración Seis, so when the two actually meet later he deems him a lightweight, not even aware that Jura is a Wizard Saint. Jura kicks his ass as a result.
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: Zero when he starts killing Jellal, the last key to Face.
** Subverted retroactively; Jellal was fighting an illusion decoy by Midnight. Brain was still unconscious through the whole fight.
** Brain ([[AdaptationExpansion in the anime anyways]]) also was the one that took Ultear from her mother Ur in order to make her a member of the Oracion Seis. Her power was too great, so he literally abandoned her. This lead to her traumatizing the lives of Jellal, Erza, Meredy, Kagura, and several others. Others like Simon ended up dying. So yeah; [[MeaningfulName there's a reason]] [[MagnificentBastard why he's called Brain]].
* WhiteHairBlackHeart
* WouldHurtAChild: Has no qualms about beating Wendy should she refuse to cooperate with him.

!!Cobra / Erik
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Oración Seis, Reborn Oración Seis\\
'''Magic:''' [[InstantAwesomeJustAddDragons Dragon Slayer Magic]] ([[FingerLickingPoison Poison Dragon Slayer]]), [[SuperMode Dragon Force]], [[MakeMeWannaShout Sound Magic]]]]

[[caption-width:225:[[labelnote:Click here for spoiler]]http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/cobra2-ftanime_1160.jpg[[/labelnote]]]]

Brain's right-hand man who keeps a giant flying snake named Cubellios as a pet, and has ultra-sensitive hearing. He is also the Poison Dragon Slayer whose magic was implanted in him by Brain.

Post-TimeSkip, Cobra sacrifices his eyesight in exchange for magic that lets him amply any sounds he hears to produce destructive sonic attacks. He also searches relentlessly for Cubellios, whom he was separated from seven years ago.

He returns later as the seventh Dragon Slayer needed to defeat future Rogue's seven dragons. He is also the reason Oración Seis was set free by Doranbalt, in exchange for intel on Tartarus.

->Voiced by: Atsushi Imaruoka (JP), Jarrod Greene (EN)
----
* [[ABoyAndHisX A Man and His Giant Purple Snake]]
* AnOfferYouCantRefuse: Made one of these to Doranbalt: He'd spill the beans on Tartarus if he agreed to free Oración Seis. Doranbalt was desperate, and had no choice but to accept. Though as insurance Doranbalt had Jellal hook up with them to keep an eye on the group.
* AntagonistAbilities: {{Telepathy}}, he can "hear" his opponent thoughts.
* {{Badass}}: There's a reason he's TheDragon of the group. He thrashed Natsu in their fight, poisoned Erza which nearly resulted in a GameBreakingInjury, and after he returned, held his own again a Dragon alone.
* BadassBaritone
** GutturalGrowler
* BadassCape: After the TimeSkip.
* BadassLongcoat
* TheBusCameBack: First in the anime, and later in the manga.
* BrownNote[=/=]MakeMeWannaShout: Post-TimeSkip, he's improved his Sound Magic to the point that he can make walls of sound.
* BullyingADragon: He taunts Natsu by telling him dragons no longer exist in the world. He gets an authentic-sounding dragon's roar for his trouble.
* CatchPhrase: "I can hear you."
* CareerEndingInjury: It's implied that this happened to him when Natsu used a Dragon's Roar to blow out his eardrums thus rendering him deaf. He made a DealWithTheDevil to get his hearing back.
* [[DeathByIrony Defeat By Irony]]: He told Natsu dragon's don't exist. Natsu beats him by using a authentic Dragon's Roar at point blank range.
** After the TimeSkip, Cobra is actively trying to find Cubellios to almost a obessive manner. In his fight with Erza, he gets his wish, at which point Erza defeats him while he's distracted.
* TheDragon: [[IncrediblyLamePun Quite literally]].
** CoDragons: With Midnight.
** TheStarscream: As soon as Oración Seis was free, he wastes no time in betraying Brain. Nobody else in the guild gave a damn, with Midnight basically saying 'good riddance.'
* EleventhHourRanger: Shows up in the Grand Magic Tournament arc to fight Future Rogue's Dragons.
* EnemyMine: He teams up with Natsu against Future Rogue and the dragons in the Grand Magic Games arc.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: His relationship with Cubellios is a prime example.
** EvenEvilHasStandards: He'd never betray his own allies the way Brain did to him. Also, if he makes a deal, he will follow through with it as shown when he joins the fight against Future Rogue's Dragons but returns to jail when its over. The deal was he'd be free if he helped killed the dragons, and he failed to do so.
* EvilRedHead
* FingerLickingPoison: He ''eats'' poison, because he's the Poison Dragon Slayer.
* GetOutOfJailFreeCard: Jellal requests his temporary release from jail so he can help his fellow Dragon Slayers, well, slay dragons. He returns to jail soon afterward... only to be freed again, this time for real and along with the rest of the Oración Seis, by giving info about Tartarus to Doranbolt.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has a scar over his left eye after the TimeSkip.
* HandicappedBadass: He returns with a missing eye after the TimeSkip. It's later revealed that the present eye no longer works. Despite this, he's even stronger then before.
* HeelFaceTurn: He returns to help Natsu and the other Dragon Slayers to defeat the seven Dragons who came through the Eclipse Gate.
** HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: However, he becomes evil again when confronted by Doranbolt as he uses his knowledge of Tartarus to ensure freedom for him and his allies.
* IgnoredEnemy: When Natsu and Happy stop to squabble for a moment. Talking isn't a free action in the manga, but in the anime, possibly to make his AlasPoorVillain moment more effective, he noticeably pauses in his attacks and has a sort of soft expression while looking at Cubellios.
* IWillFindYou: He promises to find Cubellios after they are separated over the TimeSkip. He succeeds, but they're not reunited for long before the council shows up to arrest him.
* InTheBack: He survives, though.
* ManlyTears: After being shot by Brain.
* MrExposition: He's surprisingly well-informed about Tartarus. He trades this information for the original Oración Seis's release out of prison.
* OhCrap: He didn't quite catch that Midnight was summoning an illusion, and thus his reaction to [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Zero]] waking up and 'killing' Jellal was this.
* PetTheDog: When offered a chance at freedom by Doranbolt, he refuses to give him information unless he free's all of the Oración Seis, showing he values them all....except for Brain.
* PointyEars: Apparently his Listening Magic eventually causes this.
* {{Revenge}}: He instantly attacks Brain after the group is released from prison for 1) shooting him in the back for the YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness during the ''Nirvana arc'' and 2) Seeing that he saw all of Oricion Seis as nothing more then his pawns. He does apologize to Midnight for this who says he was fine with it.
* ShooTheDog: He does this to Kinana/Cubellios when the council shows up so she won't be arrested with him.
* SlasherSmile: Just about all the time. Makes you wonder if its a traits shared among every Dragon Slayer.
* SnakesAreSexy
* TechnicolorToxin: Cubellios is violet and her bitten victims turn purple. The scales of Cobra's Dragon Slayer mode are violet, but the poison he creates is crimson.
* {{Telepathy}}: Cobra can read minds because ''his hearing is that good''. This becomes his weakness when Natsu unleashes a [[MakeMeWannaShout Dragon's]] [[BrownNote Roar]] at point blank range, deafening him.
** Again, post-TimeSkip, where he is distracted upon hearing Kinana/Cubellios' voice, allowing Erza to finish him off.
* TheDogBitesBack: After waiting 7 years for the opportunity he kills Brain for [[YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness shooting him in the back for a failure.]]
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: Brain takes him out just for losing to Natsu. He survives, however... and later returns the favor after the group is released from prison.

!!Racer / Sawyer

[[caption-width:225:[[labelnote:Click here for spoiler]]http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/racer2-ftanime_4367.jpg[[/labelnote]]]]

A speed-obsessed wizard who uses magic to move faster than the human eye. Or at least that's how his magic appears to others; his true power is slowing down time for everything around him.

Post-TimeSkip, Racer improves his Slowing Magic and achieves his desire for genuine speed, but sacrifices his own humanity and "heart" in the process and becomes a twisted shell of his former self.

->Voiced by: JunjiMajima (JP), Jeff Plunk (EN)
----
* AnimeHair
* AxCrazy: Post-TimeSkip.
* BadassBiker
** BadassBoast: "Faster than anybody, faster than anything. Running is what I do."
* CatchPhrase: "Fast is good."
* CoolBike: His other magic, "Vehicle Magic", can produce them out of thin air.
* DissonantSerenity: After Brain was betrayed by Cobra, he just shrugs his shoulders and asks what everyone else feels like doing now that they're free.
* FragileSpeedster: Catch him off guard and he's a vulnerable as any normal human.
* GagNose
* KnifeNut: Manga-only. In the anime, he threatens Lyon with a broken icicle.
* OhCrap: Upon realizing that Brain was NotQuiteDead after Cobra's betrayal, and that Zero was unsealed in the process. [[SubvertedTrope Or not.]]
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Post-TimeSkip.
* SinisterShades
* SparedByTheAdaptation: In the manga, he quite clearly kills himself with the bomb, but fails to kill Lyon. However the anime has Lyon cut the bomb off of him and defend them both from the blast with ice magic before it could explode, saving his life in the process. [[FridgeBrilliance It also gives a better explanation for how Lyon could have survived.]]
** His death is {{Retcon}}ned entirely when [[WordOfGod Hiro Mashima]] accepts the Key of the Starry Heavens {{filler}} arc as canon. And he later show up alive and well in the ''Tartarus Arc''.
* SuperSpeed: It appeared to be this at first, but it's later revealed that it's actually [[TimeStandsStill the exact opposite]]. However, after the time-skip, he has genuinely achieved his dream of SuperSpeed.
** SpeedBlitz
** TimeStandsStill
* TakingYouWithMe: To Lyon, though it didn't work, as even he himself survived.

!!Hoteye / Richard Buchanan
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Oración Seis\\
'''Magic:''' [[DishingOutDirt Earth Magic]] (Liquid Ground), Heaven's Gaze]]

http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hoteye-ftanime_4864.jpg

A greedy man who believes that money can solve all the world's problems. His Heaven's Gaze ability allows him to see through solid objects, and he can transform the ground around him into liquid. His true identity is Richard Buchanan, the older brother of Erza's childhood friend Wally.

->Voiced by: Kazuya Ichijo (JP), Chris Cason (EN)
----
* DishingOutDirt: Hoteye's magic deals with softening the ground. It's a lot more powerful than it sounds.
* EvilRedhead
* {{Expy}}: When he first appears he bears an uncanny (and probably coincidental) resemblance to [[OnePiece Bartholomew Kuma]].
* {{Gonk}}
* {{Greed}}
* HeelRealization: For the briefest instant, he questions whether or not money is the answer to reuniting with his brother.
** HeelFaceBrainwashing: Because Nirvana is activated when this happens, he immediately turns good on the spot. And because he was good to begin with, his HeelFaceTurn sticks.
* LongLostRelative: To Wally.
* LoveFreak: Post-turn.
* MagicalEye: Hoteye's "Heaven's Gaze" ability lets him see through solid objects.
* MoneyFetish
* TearsOfJoy: After Erza tells him his brother is alive and well.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Post Time-Skip
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: With Wally.
* VerbalTic: Ends all of his sentences with "''desu ne''!" ("Isn't it?") ("Oh yeah!" in the Funimation dub.)
* WellIntentionedExtremist: His dream is to one day reunite with his missing brother, which he thinks he can achieve if he has enough money. He is thus overcome with crushing greed.

!!Angel / Sorano Agria

[[caption-width:225:[[labelnote:Click here for spoiler]]http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angel2-ftanime_2157.jpg[[/labelnote]]]]

A very skilled Celestial Spirit wizard who controls spirits such as Gemini to read the minds of her enemies. However, she sees her spirits as little more than tools, and has no trouble mistreating them.

Post-TimeSkip, Angel learns Angel Magic, which allow her to summon angelic beings that gradually eat away at her own lifespan so that when she dies, she will become an angel herself.

She is also Yukino's older sister Sorano, taken away to the Tower of Heaven by Zeref cultists at a young age. They haven't seen each other since.

->Voiced by: FuyukaOoura (JP), Creator/LindsaySeidel (EN)
----
* AbsoluteCleavage: The first real example in the series.
* {{BFG}}[=/=]{{BFS}}: Caelum can be both.
* CastFromLifespan: Why Angel Magic should... be used sparingly, to say the least. Leads to her second VillainousBreakdown.
* ClothingDamage: After her defeat, and one of the most extensive cases in the series.
* CoolBigSis: At one point, she was this to Yukino.
* CuteAndPsycho
* DarkActionGirl
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Being kidnapped by Zeref cultists, and being taken away from her sister. Judging by how she is now and seeing how Hoteye was initially, they succeeded in making her BrainwashedAndCrazy.
* DarkChick
* DetachedSleeves: After the TimeSkip.
* EvilCounterpart: To Lucy.
* FamilyThemeNaming: Sorano and her sister Yukino.
* FreudianExcuse: Her personality makes a lot more sense once you know her real name is 'Sorano Agria.'
* HairDecorations: A blue ribbon to be precise.
* HimeCut: Post-TimeSkip.
* HoistByHerOwnPetard: Turns out Angel Magic is not very wholesome to use, as she finds out in the worst possible way.
* IdiotHair: In the shape of a halo.
* ImpossibleHourglassFigure: Hard to tell until the ClothingDamage, but she definitely fits.
* ImpossiblyLowNeckline: In the Key of the Starry Heavens Arc.
* KickTheSonOfABitch: She's the one who killed [[{{Jerkass}} Karen]].
* LightIsNotGood: She wears a white dress, has white hair, is named "Angel" and uses Celestial Spirit magic. She's also one of the cruelest characters in the series.
** Post-Timeskip, she has learned Angel Magic, which allows her to summon "angels" in battle. Furthermore, the more she uses Angel Magic, the less human she becomes.
* LongLostRelative: To Yukino.
* ManipulativeBitch
* MiniDressOfPower: It's even [[FluffyFashionFeathers made of feathers]].
* MysticalWhiteHair
* OhCrap: Like Racer and Cobra, she's not thrilled to see that Brain survived Cobra's betrayal, and that Zero was unsealed. Thankfully, [[DaydreamSurprise he actually wasn't]].
* OperaGloves: Bonus points for being the same color as the ZettaiRyouiki.
* TheOphelia: She is shown to have lost a few screws post-TimeSkip as a side-effect of her Angel Magic; she thinks that when the angels she summons completely devour her soul, she will become an angel herself. Thankfully Gray manages to talk some sanity back into her.
* SexyBacklessOutfit: As sexy as the AbsoluteCleavage.
* ShapeShifter: Her favorite combat tactic.
* SlasherSmile
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: She's the only female in Oración Seis.
* SummonMagic: Angel is a Celestial Spirit wizard with three Golden Keys (Aries, Gemini, Scorpio).
** After the TimeSkip she can use golden coins to directly summon angels to fight for her.
* TattooedCrook: Has two angel wings tattooed [[RuleOfSexy above her breasts]].
* TearsOfFear: Post-TimeSkip when she realizes that her Angel Magic has turned against her.
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: To Yukino. Same color hair? Same type of outfit? Both Celestial Spirit mages?
* UsedToBeASweetKid: Yukino absolutely idolized her older sister when they were younger, and had nothing but good things to say about her. Contrast that image with how she is now.
* VaporWear
* VerbalTic: She has a tendency to end her sentences with "~so."
* VillainousBreakdown: Twice. The second time nearly kills her.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart
* WomanInWhite
* ZergRush: She summons a small horde of angels, each with MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily, to attempt this on Jellal during the Tartarus Arc. Apparently, she didn't [[IgnoredAesop learn her lesson]] from the [[CastFromLifespan last time she abused Angel Magic]].
* ZettaiRyouiki: Grade A.

Brain's adoptive son who is almost always shown sleeping. He uses Reflector magic to evade his opponents' attacks and create illusions.

Post-TimeSkip, Midnight takes over his father's legacy as leader of the Reborn Oración Seis. He develops Brain's knack for inventing new spells to suit his needs, leading him to redub himself "Brain II".

* BadassLongcoat: Post-TimeSkip.
* CastingAShadow: Seems to have learned the same type of Darkness Magic as Brain.
* DaydreamSurprise: Did this twice. First against Erza and later on against Jellal. The former fake eye allowed her to see through it and cut him down. The latter had to blind himself to break through it.
* DissonantSerenity: He doesn't bat an eyelash at Cobra betraying Brain.
* DisneyVillainDeath: Plummets into the depths of the Infinity Castle after Natsu defeats him in the Key of the Starry Heavens arc.
** [[NotQuiteDead And later subverted.]]
* DudeLooksLikeALady
* EvilGenius: Takes up his father's knack for inventing new spells, and even calls himself "Brain II".
* {{Expy}}: He bears a striking resemblance to Albel Nox from ''{{Star Ocean 3}}''.
* FightingAShadow: He pulls this on Hoteye.
* {{Guyliner}}: And lipstick to boot!
* MasterOfIllusion: His secondary power.
* MulticoloredHair: He looks like he has two sets of hair at the same time--a black "spiky lump" commonly used on males, and white chin-length hair with decorations that would look perfectly fitting on a girl.
* NoSell: After the TimeSkip, his combination of Reflector and Darkness Magic can't be blocked by Dan's or even Byro's magic.
* OneWingedAngel: Transforms into a hideous large beast once it becomes [[MeaningfulName midnight]], against Erza. It's actually just an illusion, which doesn't work for long on [[NoSell Erza.]]
* RazorWind: One of the many uses of Reflector.
* RedEyesTakeWarning
* ShipTease: Believe it or not, with Jellal.
* {{Sleepyhead}}
* SuperpowerLottery: He's basically [[LightNovel/ACertainMagicalIndex Accelerator]] and [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Aizen]] rolled into one, toned down of course. Subverted in the end, however, when all that power fails to keep him from suffering a humiliating defeat.
* TakeUpMySword: Reappears Post-TimeSkip as the new leader of Oración Seis.
* VillainousBreakdown: Lucy turns the power of the Infinity Clock against him, distorting his perception of time and forcing him to relive the horrors of the Tower of Heaven.

The master of Grimoire Heart. He wishes to uncover the origins of magic, and believes that awakening Zeref will give him that power. He was once called Precht, the second master and cofounder of Fairy Tail who named Makarov his successor.

Deliora's attempted revival on Galuna Island? It would have failed outright without Ultear, the leader of his QuirkyMinibossSquad. Oración Seis? Brain formed it while he was Jellal's mentor. He also played a part in Ultear's StartOfDarkness, if not being outright responsible for it.

* {{Expy}}: His helmet, cape, age, imposing height, and ridiculous magic power all make him comparable to Haja from ''Manga/RaveMaster''.
* EyepatchOfPower: In the literal sense too, as once he takes it off he goes OneWingedAngel.
* FaceFramedInShadow: Until the Sirius Island arc.
* FaceHeelTurn: He was the second master of Fairy Tail and the one who nominated Makarov as his successor.
* FallenHero: He once was the second guild master of Fairy Tail but fell into evil for unknown reasons.
** TheParagonAlwaysRebels: Although rather than take others with him into darkness, he recruited others and cultivated evil ''after'' he fell.
* FingerGun
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: Details haven't been given, but he decided to create a dark guild after learning the "true nature of magic".
* GoneHorriblyRight: His actions awaken Zeref, who proceeds to kill him.
* InstantRunes: His Amaterasu spell seals, which are supposed to be ridiculously hard to do so quickly, if Makarov's reaction is any indication.
* KarmicDeath: Released Zeref and ended up being killed by him.
* KilledOffForReal
** DeaderThanDead: Not only did Zeref kill him, Franmalth just so happened to have wandered across his body and [[AndIMustScream got ahold of his soul]].
** RedemptionEqualsDeath: Franmalth's defeat releases his soul, and he gives Lucy and Natsu a message. "It's not over yet. Tartaros's real goal is not face. Tell Makarov...that it's time to let out the light."
* KnightOfCerebus
* [[TheManBehindTheMan The Man Behind the Woman Behind the Man]]: He's Ultear's boss.
* MadeOfIron[=/=]NoSell: His entire battle with Team Natsu and Laxus consists of him getting up without a single scratch every time he is apparently crushed. This is thanks to his [[SoulJar mechanical "heart"]], and only stops when the "heart" is destroyed.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Defeats Makarov without breaking a sweat. Then, in the fight against Team Natsu, after they finish their "warm up" he utterly trashes the group.
* OhCrap: Again, his battle with Team Natsu is practically an exchange of shocked and horrified expressions between both sides; he gives an "OhCrap" face each time Team Natsu pulls an impressive stunt, and he gets one in return for every time he {{No Sell}}s them. But his ultimate "OhCrap" face comes when he realizes his SoulJar is destroyed, and again when Zeref appears on his ship.
* OlderThanTheyLook: In flashbacks to when Makarov was a young man, he looks exactly the same as he does now.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: After defeating Makarov, he spends much of the arc sitting around on his ship without doing anything, even after every single one of his subordinates is defeated, until "Makarov's kids" waltz right through his door.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: He's over a hundred.
* ShootTheMedicFirst: What he tries to do to Wendy at the end of one of the many OhCrap moments mentioned above; thankfully, [[BigDamnHeroes Horologium saves her at the last second.]]
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: He's the strongest character encountered up until that point in the series, barring Zeref and possibly Mavis.
* SoulJar: His "heart" powers both himself and the Grimoire Heart guild ship. Unfortunately, it leads to his defeat, by Carla and Happy, no less.
* TinTyrant
* UnholyNuke: Grimoire Law, the EvilCounterpart to Fairy Law. For bonus points, something really bad is supposed to happen should the two ever clash.
* VariableLengthChain: One of his magic types is creating chains of light, which seem to have a draining ability when it latches on to his foes.

----
* {{Badass}}: Anyone who can engage a severely pissed-off Gildarts in a protracted battle more than deserves the title.
** BadassBaritone
** BadassLongcoat[=/=]CoatCape.
* BattleAura: Like Gildarts', it can be felt across the entire island. And it has enough physical presence to deflect the rain falling down on him.
* TheDragon
** CoDragons: Along with Ultear.
** DragonWithAnAgenda: Cares little for Fairy Tail and Zeref, the latter of which is goal of his guild. He seeks the grave of the first Fairy Tail master, Mavis Vermilion, in order to acquire the magic "Fairy Glitter".
* TheDreaded: As Lahar puts it:
-->"Not even a weed remains in the roads that he's walked...''that's'' the level of magic user he is."
* DuelBoss: Once Gildarts shows up, everyone clears out to give them room to do battle. Natsu wants to stay and watch, but they drag him away anyway.
** GoodOldFisticuffs: Said battle quickly devolves into this for both Bluenote and Gildarts. Until Azuma takes control of the Sirius Tree, that is.
* EvilCounterpart: For Gildarts.
* FaceFramedInShadow: Until he steps in.
* GagNose
* {{Gonk}}
* GravityMaster
** ChunkyUpdraft: A deliberate use of his power.
** DarkIsEdgy[=/=]PowerOfTheVoid: Can make black holes.
** GravitySucks
* OhCrap: He has two of them. The first one is when he realizes that Gildarts is strong enough to pose an actual threat to him, and the second one is when Gildarts crushes his Black Hole spell.
* OneManArmy: According to his reputation.
* ATwinkleInTheSky:How he is defeated by Gildarts.
* VillainBall: He had Gildarts on the ropes due to Azuma taking over the Sirius Island tree and draining the Faires of their magic. He could've easily killed him with his black hole power. What does he do? Just stomps on Gildarts and gloats like an idiot before Erza manages to turn the power back on, allowing Gildarts to get back into the fight.
* TheWorfEffect: Yes, Gildarts is said to be the strongest wizard in Fairy Tail, and yes, Gildarts is {{badass}}, but Bluenote is defeated in one hit once Gildarts' drained magic returns. And this is supposedly when Bluenote "stops playing around". To fair, before Gildarts showed up, Natsu's group couldn't even touch him and Cana, equipped with Fairy Glitter, the strongest magic of the Fairy Tail guild, gets smacked aside like it was nothing. Plus you can't exactly do much when your opponent can ''crush a black hole''.

!!Seven Kin of Purgatory
A group of wizards who were all taught by Hades to learn a form of Lost Magic, ancient spells that are rarely practiced out of fear of their power.
----
* [[HoistByHisOwnPetard Hoist by Their Own Petards]]: Almost all of the Kin are defeated as a result of having their own magic turned against them in one way or another: Zancrow by his flames, Caprico by his body snatching, Kain by his doll, Merudy by her sensory link, Azuma by his decision to use the Sirius Tree's magic, and Rusty Rose by defeating Elfman and allowing him to be used as Bickslow's trump card. Even Ultear's defeat is a result of having [[CallBack helped melt Ur's ice back]] in the Galuna Island arc.
* [[LostTechnology Lost Magic]]: All of them use some kind of Lost Magic, which are stated by Hades to be the magics closest to the source of magic.

----
* AlmightyJanitor: Implied to be stronger than Ultear, who claims to be the strongest of the Seven Kin; definitely as Ezra has to go all out to beat him.
* AmbiguouslyBrown
* AndIMustScream: Turns into a tree as a result of overusing his magic.
* AntiVillain: [[EvenEvilHasStandards Type I]], compared to the other six.
* {{Badass}}
** BadassBaritone
** BadassBeard
* BeardOfEvil
* BloodKnight: He just wants a good fight, and will do whatever it takes to get it.
* DeathSeeker: Possibly. He seems just a smidge too happy Erza beats him.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: During his fight with Erza, he admits that he's uncomfortable with the methods of his compatriots, and the only reason he does so here is that he was ordered to by Master Hades.
* {{Expy}}: Possesses a strong resemblance to Amarant Coral from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyIX''.
* FacialMarkings: A stripe from the top of his forehead to the middle of his left cheek.
* GracefulLoser: He calls the members of Fairy Tail "magnificent", openly admiring their bonds and the strength of their conviction, when he is defeated by Erza.
* GratuitousLatin: Several of his attack names are Latin:
** "Folium Sica" (Leaf Dagger)
** "Ramus Sica" (Branch Dagger)
** "Terra Clamare" (Cries of the Earth)
* GreenThumb: His brand of Lost Magic, the Great Tree Arc. He uses it to take control of the magical power of Sirius Island through the Sirius Tree, which had given Fairy Tail immortality and a boost to their magic.
* HavingABlast: The explosions shown as his primary attacks are created by condensing the magic of the earth into the fruit of his trees.
* HeroKiller: He doesn't really want to kill anyone, but fits the trope otherwise. In just the Sirius Island arc he defeats Wendy, Doranbalt, Panther Lily, Carla, Lisanna, and Mirajane while she uses Satan Soul[[note]]Though she [[JumpingOnAGrenade jumps on the bomb holding her sister hostage[[/note]]. Plus he takes a full-powered Erza to the limit.
* KickTheDog: He places a timed explosion on Lisanna, saying that Mirajane has that long to defeat him before her sister dies.
* MyMasterRightOrWrong: But follows his orders out of UndyingLoyalty.
* PetTheDog: Very slight, and directed at the same people he had a KickTheDog moment with earlier, but he shows some regret when he sees Lisanna cry over Mirajane's body. He then leaves them instead of finishing them off.
* PunchClockVillain: Unlike several of the other Kin, Azuma doesn't have a bone to pick with any of the Fairy Tail members besides [[MyMasterRightOrWrong being told to attack them by Hades]] and [[BloodKnight fighting strong people]].
* ShirtlessScene
* TheStoic
** NotSoStoic: He grins maniacally in his fights against {{Worthy Opponent}}s.

* AntagonistAbilities: RealityWarper via YourMindMakesItReal
* [[ArrogantKungFuGuy Arrogant Wizard Guy]]: He thinks of his magic as invincible, and comes to believe that all of Fairy Tail is weak after he beats Elfman and Evergreen.
* {{Bishonen}}
* EvilCounterpart: Arguably, to Fried. Both are stoic ''{{bishonen}}'' with a nigh-unbeatable power (and understandable pride in such) with [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking epic hair]]. But while Fried is quiet and [[JerkWithAHeartOfGold mostly a nice guy]] when he's not on the attack, Rusty Rose is a [[{{Jerkass}} douche]] [[WarriorPoet who loves to talk]].
* EvilIsHammy: Even while being TheStoic, he acts highly overdramatic. Once he becomes [[NotSoStoic less stoic]], it gets worse.
* FourEyesZeroSoul
* ImaginationBasedSuperpower: By definition, his powers are this. They allow him to fight with literally anything he can imagine, from pegasus shoes to impenetrable shields, and from [[MundaneUtility glasses]] to giant towers of magical energy, all without any need for resources or any noticeable side-effects. Because there's no obvious way to counter someone who can fight with ''anything'' he can, Evergreen and Elfman are utterly [[CurbStompBattle curb stomped]] by him once [[LetsGetDangerous he stops playing with them]] and it takes some ''seriously'' creative uses of magic for the guild to finally beat him.
* InformedFlaw: There are supposedly serious side-effects of his incredibly powerful magic, but they are never shown or even explained, and they don't stop him kicking serious amounts of ass.
* {{Jerkass}}: Good god, is he a dick. Unlike Azuma, he has no respect for Fairy Tail, and he takes pleasure in hurting others. Then there's the fact that he thinks the idea of killing off 90% of the world's population is a good idea.
* LuckilyMyShieldWillProtectMe: Summoned into his left hand.
* MundaneUtility: Uses his powers to make a new pair of glasses. Justified given the situation.
* NiceShoes
* OhCrap: When he winds up fighting both Fried and Bickslow and experiences fear for the first time. It doesn't last long though, as he uses the fear as more inspiration for his powers.
** He has an even more epic one later when, once Azuma restores the magical power of Fairy Tail, he gets his ass handed to him by the combined effort of Fried, Bickslow, Lisanna and Elfman.
* PsychoticSmirk: Once he starts being NotSoStoic.
* RealityWarper
* ScaryShinyGlasses
* ShapeshifterWeapon: Transformed his right arm into an extendable claw.
* ShipperOnDeck: He seems to be one for Elfman and Evergreen in a very weird, twisted sort of way.
* SmugSuper: The guy's got quite the ego on him, and it's pretty much deserved. He wiped the floor with Elfman and Evergreen, and Fried, Bixlow, and Lisanna needed to be pretty imaginative in the way they used their magic in order to defeat him.
* SquishyWizard: His body isn't particularly strong nor is he particularly agile. Once his magic is disrupted long enough and one gets past the defenses he's layered himself with, he's out.
* TheStoic
** NotSoStoic: He laughs crazily at the prospect of living in a world where non-magic users cannot survive. And then there's the fact that he's reduced to TearsOfFear at the sight of Zeref when he's angry.
* SummonMagic: Apparently of the "Guardian Saint" variety.
* SuperpowerLottery: He can create anything he imagines for no apparent drawbacks.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: It's a blink-and-you-miss-it scene, but Zeref spared his and Kain's lives, as they are both seen alive and well during Acnologia's destruction of Sirius Island. Despite this, there has been no word whatsoever as to what has become of them since then.

[[/folder]]

[[folder: Tartarus]]
The last of the three guilds that form (or formed) the dreaded Balam Alliance that, until the end of the Sun Village arc, [[OrcusOnHisThrone had no prominence on the story, unlike the other two guilds]]. This guild hadn't made any sort of appearance before the TimeSkip, and as such, this guild comes off as the most enigmatic. Several of their members, including their Guild Master, are demons from the Books of Zeref.
----
* AntagonistAbilities: So far many of the members has at least one of these.
* BadassCrew: Let's see... one of them froze ''Atlas Flame'' solid, another made ''[[{{Jerkass}} Minerva]]'' shit herself in terror just at the mere sight of her, another '''assassinated all but one of the Magic Council''' in one perfectly-executed terrorist attack, and their guild master is stated to be the most terrifying demon Zeref has ever created, and he even kicked Igneel's ass in a fight. Yeah, they're [[{{Understatement}} kind of scary]].
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: It's implied that some of their members are this.
* TheDreaded: Nobody knows anything about them, but everybody is terrified of picking a fight with them, and for good reason.
* EldritchLocation: Their headquarters, Cube. It's eventually revealed that it is actually a GiantFlyer that can [[TheAssimilator absorb]] anything that is on its body that isn't one of the demons ([[WhatMeasureIsAMook except the]] {{mooks}}), turning its victims into parts of the architecture. FridgeHorror sets in when you remember just how many skeletons and skulls are used to decorate Tartarus' guild headquarters...
* KillAllHumans: This appears to be their endgame. Tempester in particular even references the HumansAreBastards speech that [[BiggerBad Zeref]] gave to [[BigGood Mavis]], as well as the BondOneLiner he delivered to Hades.
* [[KnightOfCerebus Knights of Cerebus]]: If you thought Grimoire Heart instantly turned the series DarkerAndEdgier as soon as they showed up, wait till you see these guys.
* TheLegionsOfHell: See OurDemonsAreDifferent.
* TheMagicGoesAway: This is their goal. They are assassinating Magic Council members because three of the members' lifeforce seals away "Face", a magic pulse bomb capable of wiping out all magic on the continent. Since Tartarus uses "Enchantment" instead of magic, this would allow them to wipe out humanity with ease. Ultimately foiled in the middle of their fight with Fairy Tail, as Wendy and Carla manage to destroy and implode Face before if can fire. Marde Guille is confident that it's only a matter of time before magic fades away, with or without Face. [[spoiler: Because there are at least ''twenty'' other Faces left.]]
* MeaningfulName: In [[ClassicalMythology Greek Mythology]], Tartarus is an area of the Greek Underworld reserved to torment souls that are judged to be evil, making it the rough equivalent of {{hell}} in other religions. All of their high ranking members are demons from the Books of Zeref, who believe they are passing judgment on humans.
* NothingIsScarier: Nobody knows anything about them other than that they're a dark guild. The exception to this is [[MrExposition Cobra]], who was once part of a dark guild himself.
* OneManArmy: Each of them. Franmalth even lampshades this by saying that Zeref intentionally designed each demon to be able to take on the entire army of each country.
* [[OrcusOnHisThrone Orcuses On Their Throne]]: They did absolutely nothing on-screen before their own arc began, and were only mentioned in passing with almost nothing being known about them. And then they made their on-screen debut [[KillEmAll in]] [[StuffBlowingUp a]] [[DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu very]] [[HeroKiller big]] [[KnightOfCerebus way]].
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Tatarus' high-ranking members are all demons from the Books of Zeref. They are distinguished from other demons (like the ones on Galuna Island) with the species name "Aetherius".
* PunyHumans: Being demons, they look down on humans on principle, and it looks like they've got the power to back it up. Laxus actually being capable of beating the crap out of him really pissed off Tempester.
* PuzzleBoss: So far, most of them are this. They're not particularly stronger than the rest of the Balam Alliance, but what makes them noticeably ''more'' difficult to handle than the last two is that a lot of their abilities require you to work out their weakness (with a bit of luck, in some cases) first before laying the smack down on them. And they are just as hard to figure out like many other PuzzleBoss examples. In other words, unless you figure out their weakness first, you pretty much have a snowball's chance in hell of winning. And that's not even getting into their ResurrectiveImmortality abilities yet...
* ReligionOfEvil: Many who have witnessed their gatherings described them as a cult that worships demons. They're only partially correct; they don't worship demons, they ''are'' demons.
** The Nine Demon Gates actually appear to worship [[BiggerBad Zeref]] himself (whom they refer to as 'Master'), with a shrine set up in his honor in their inner sanctum.
* ResurrectiveImmortality: What's that? You thought you could simply kill them? You don't know much about demons, then.
** This only works if they can return to Hell's Core. Mirajane takes advantage of this by destroying the entire lab.
* SortingAlgorithmOfEvil: They are by far the most dangerous Dark Guild in the series. They're also the last of the Balam Alliance to appear.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: To a certain extent; they all seem to disagree with each other save Silver and Kyouka.
* TomeOfEldritchLore: They are believed to be the current owners of the Books of Zeref, and indeed, all of their high-ranking members are demons, including their Guild Master.
* UnequalRites: They uses "Curses"/"Enchantment" which is somehow different from the rest of the magic in the series. Jackal boasts that it's inherently superior.
* [[UnwillingRoboticisation Unwilling Demonization]]: They have the ability to turn their members into Demons and after they tried to do this to Mirajane, it's implied that not all of their members were willing.
* [[IWillFindYou We Will Find You]]: Kyouka, and later Zeref himself, have stated that despite being demons that Zeref created, Tartarus has never actually met Zeref in person, and it's one of their life's dreams to finally get the chance to do so.
** BlindObedience: Which explains a lot of their actions and their lack of empathy for humanity. Kyouka pretty much flat out states they're only doing what they think Zeref would want of them.

!!E.N.D.
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Tartarus\\
'''Curse:''' Unknown]]

The Guild Master of Tartarus. He's the most powerful demon found in the Books of Zeref and was stated to have single-handedly defeated ''Igneel''.
----
* AsskickingEqualsAuthority: He's the strongest demon ever created by Zeref, and he leads a guild made almost entirely of demons Zeref created.
* BiggerBad: For the time being, as he isn't even summoned yet, and Marde seems to be in charge.
* BlindObedience: He wants to wipe out all of humanity because he thinks [[WellDoneSonGuy Zeref would approve]].
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: Why, yes, he did! Atlas Flame stated, and [[spoiler:Zeref himself]] confirmed, that even Igneel couldn't kill this guy.
** It's even more impressive when you consider that up to this point that only Dragon Slayer Magic has been shown to be able to injure dragons, and even the Slayers already shown had trouble hurting the seven weaker dragons that appeared during the Grand Magic Games. The fact that E.N.D. was apparently able to defeat Igneel, who is even stronger than those seven, by himself speaks volumes of his power.
* TheDreaded: Atlas Flame is afraid of him, and his very name sends chills down Doranbalt's spine. Even Kyouka, a fellow demon and one of his subordinates, is visibly nervous when she decides he needed to be woken up after the Face project's failure.
* ExcaliburInTheRust: The book containing him is visibly worn and covered in burns and tears, probably as a result of his battle with Igneel.
* InsistentTerminology: Every character in the know about what went down between E.N.D. and Igneel has been quite insistent that Igneel '''couldn't''' kill him.
* IWillFindYou: Zeref states to Natsu that Tartarus has never actually met their creator, and that E.N.D. himself has been trying to find Zeref for quite some time. However, Zeref also indicates that only he or Natsu will actually get to find Zeref in person; not both.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: We don't even need to know what 'E.N.D.' stands for.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Kind of; the reason he hasn't made any kind of appearance yet is because, apparently, he hasn't been summoned from his book in quite awhile. Marde Guille has been leading Tartarus in his stead.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: He's said to be the most powerful demon Zeref ever created.
* SealedEvilInACan: He's trapped inside his Book of Zeref until enough '[[AppliedPhlebotinum Curse Power]]' can be gathered to resurrect him. According to Marde, there's also too much regular magical power in the world to bring him back; the Face Project is meant to remove that part of the problem.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Zeref, to the point where he's willing to wipe out humanity for no other reason than because he thinks it's what Zeref wants.

!!Marde Guille
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Tartarus\\
'''Curse:''' [[SomethingAboutARose Thorn Curse]], [[EldritchLocation Alegria]]]]

The keeper of E.N.D.'s Book, and known as the "King of Hades." He's also the one who came up with the technology Lamy used to [[ResurrectiveImmortality bring back the demons]] following their defeat, as well as to create new demons from humans. He is the acting leader of Tartarus in E.N.D.'s absence.
----
* AllAccordingToPlan: He wasn't the least bit concerned about the news concerning Face being destroyed, saying that the Face Project would proceed exactly as planned. [[YouCantThwartStageOne He wasn't bluffing.]]
* ArcVillain: Shaping up to be this of the Tartarus Arc, with E.N.D. as the BiggerBad.
* BadassLongCoat: Might just be the coolest one in the series, and that's with some pretty stiff competition. It's white and black all over, and tattered at the end.
* BadBoss: Condemns many of Tartarus' own soldiers to be absorbed along with the heroes when he transforms Tartarus' fortress. When Kyouka mentions this, he says they are a sacrifice.
* BerserkButton: He reacted... strongly, to Erza mistaking him for Tartarus' Guild Master.
* {{Bishonen}}: Make Zeref a LongHairedPrettyBoy and give him a BadassLongCoat, and you've got the King of Hades.
* BilingualBonus: 'Allegria' means '[[SuperFunHappyThingOfDoom Happiness]]' in Italian.
* DidntSeeThatComing: Clearly didn't expect anyone to escape Alegria when he activated it. Lucy did just that, which he said was about a one-in-a-billion chance.
** He also didn't expect Lucy being able to [[spoiler:summon the Spirit King.]]
* DissonantSerenity: Has had his PsychoticSmirk on his face the whole time he's been fighting with the Spirit King. That same smile was on his face during his fight with Sting and Rogue.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: A running theme with Tartarus, as well as with Zeref.
* EvilCannotComprehendGood:
-->"So, this is what it means to be human. Feeling such self-satisfaction, rambling on about life and death. It's so unsightly."
* EvilGenius: He's the guy who came up with the technology used for Tartarus' ResurrectiveImmortality and [[UnwillingRoboticisation Unwilling Demonization]]. Lamy says they gained this power because of a DealWithTheDevil they made with Marde.
* EvilerThanThou: To put things into perspective, Kyouka had [[{{Jerkass}} Minerva]] shaking in her boots. ''This'' guy is so terrifying that when he tortured Kyouka, she ''thanked him for the privilege'', and then reacted with horror as he [[BadBoss callously wiped out]] his own {{Mook}}s.
* {{Expy}}: His physical appearance, his status as a demon, his loathing of humans, and certain aspects of his personality have drawn several comparisons to [[Manga/InuYasha Naraku]].
* FlashStep: In his fight against the Celestial Spirit King, he dodges absolutely everything thrown at him. Even in a series where SuperSpeed is a ridiculously common power, him simply side-stepping an attack that leaves a ''giant fissure'', with his PsychoticSmirk still firmly in place, oozes {{badass}}.
* TheHeavy: While E.N.D. is the guildmaster of Tartaros, he's currently trapped inside his book. Though Marde is devoted to reviving E.N.D., he's also acting as leader of the guild until that happens.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: The Spirit King's Galaxia Blade not only frees his victims from Allegria, it turns Allegria against him. [[TheWorfEffect It only slows him down]].
* JustToyingWithThem: He spends the entire fight against Sting and Rogue [[YouFightLikeACow belittling them]] as the PunyHumans he sees them as without even moving in for the kill yet, while they are unable to even scratch him. Sting actually calls him out on this, and demands that Marde fight them seriously.
* LackOfEmpathy: Humans are nothing to him. He even tortures Kyouka for what he perceives to be too much empathy for humans because she values them as playthings. He also shows no concern for Tartarus' own soldiers when he transforms Tartarus' fortress into its true form to absorb the heroes, dismissing them as a sacrifice. Even ''Kyouka'' was put off by this.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Which he keeps in a ponytail.
* MacGuffinGuardian: He ''never'' seems to put [[SealedEvilInACan E.N.D.]]'s [[TomeOfEldritchLore Book of Zeref]] down. It's even {{Lampshaded}} by the Celestial Spirit King, who said Marde was even holding it the last time they met, which was ''eons'' ago.
* MisanthropeSupreme: His PunyHumans speech to Kyouka makes Zeref's HumansAreBastards speech sound like ''Music/WeAreTheWorld''.
* MookPromotion: Offers this to any soldier that kills Lucy
* NoSell: He blocked White Dragon's Roar using only ''one finger''. Likewise, he blocked Shadow Dragon's Slash with the [[BareHandedBladeBlock palm of his hand]].
* OhCrap: Freaks out when he realizes that Galaxia Blade reversed Allegria's effects, freeing Marde's victims and turning him into stone.
* OrcusOnHisThrone: Marde was perfectly content to [[SlouchOfVillainy chill]] on E.N.D.'s throne while Fairy Tail laid siege to Cube.
* PsychoticSmirk: Pretty much his default expression.
* PunyHumans: Takes this trope UpToEleven compared to even the other human-hating members of Tartarus. He brutally punishes Kyouka for her ColdBloodedTorture of Erza, because that implies to him that she ''does'' like humans, [[{{Sadist}} even if it's just as playthings]]. To him, humans are less than nothing, and aren't even worth torturing. He later admits to himself, though, that he can understand how Kyouka came to like playing with them so much.
** Though he does seem mildy impressed at Lucy, both for her luck in managing to not get caught in Alegria and for being able to [[spoiler:summon the Celestial Spirit King]].
* RedBaron: "The King of Hades".
* SlouchOfVillainy: His debut has him doing this while holding E.N.D's Book of Zeref under his arm.
* SomethingAboutARose: He's a hardcore {{bishonen}}, and his main weapons are thorny vines, which he absolutely ''spams''. He uses these to torture Kyouka, and then tries to [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice impale]] the Celestial Spirit King with them. [[spoiler:And it works... [[NighInvulnerable kind of]].]] Bonus points for even referring to Cube as 'his garden.'
* TheStoic: The Spirit King showing up and bringing down Plutogrim didn't even faze him. He even casually greets the Spirit King like an old acquaintance.
** NotSoStoic: The Spirit King's Galaxia Blade dispelling his curse, freeing Fairy Tail and turning it against him at the same time, shakes him up a little. Even then, he claims that his malice for humanity will never die even as he turns to stone.
* TakenForGranite: Alegria has the cube imprison everyone in a stone-like material. The Spirit King's Galaxia Blade turns it right back at him, freeing his prisoners and turning him to stone. [[spoiler:He starts to break out rather quickly.]]
* {{Telepathy}}: Hijacks Warren's to deliver a message to Fairy Tail.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Always refers to himself by his full name, making him seem ''even more'' incredibly arrogant.
* TooManyBelts: On his pants. Including on his ankles.
* TsurimeEyes: And they're squinty.
* VillainousBreakdown: Once he realizes Alegria backfired spectacularly because of the Celestial Spirit King, he's... [[OhCrap horrified]], to say the least. Clearly, this guy is ''not'' used to losing.
* WhamLine: "What a foolish species. This cube itself is a giant prison. Everything inside this Plutogrim[note]"Demon King Beast[/note] is."
* WorthyOpponent: Unfailingly polite to the Celestial Spirit King, and even compliments him mid-combat.
* YouHaveFailedMe: To Minerva.

!!Kyouka
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Tartarus\\
'''Curse:''' [[MagicEnhancement Currently Unnamed]]]]

One of the Nine Demon Gates of Tartarus, who was tasked with recruiting 'soldiers' for Tartarus. She uses a currently unnamed type of reinforcement magic that greatly increases the power of any she casts it on... if they're powerful enough; according to Kyouka, her magic only aids those who already possess a great amount of power. Those that do not cannot withstand her overwhelming power and are instead transformed into paper dolls. She was told to go recruiting, so she began by visiting all of the subservient guilds under Tartarus and using her magic on their members. The mages of Succubus Eye weren't powerful enough to handle her reinforcement and were all turned into dolls, quite possibly leaving Minerva as the only surviving member. She is the leader of the Nine Demon Gates, and most of the other members of Tartaros report to her as well.
----
* AbsoluteCleavage: SideBoob included.
* AgonyBeam: She can manipulate her victims' sense of pain, making the ColdBloodedTorture even more effective. It's bad enough to reduce even Erza to a weeping mess.
* AmbiguouslyHuman: She has several bird features and she talks about how she wants to make humans stronger, implying she's some sort of monster. It's later confirmed that she is, in fact, a demon from the Books of Zeref, making this much less ambiguous.
* {{Badass}}: She is a high-ranking member of Tartarus and she easily terrified Minerva.
* BalefulPolymorph: Those too weak to withstand her power are transformed into paper dolls.
* TheBaroness: Biggest one in the series so far by a ''mile''.
* BreakTheBadass: When ''Minerva'' is terrified when she meets this lady, you ''know'' she's bad news.
** And then she used some good old-fashioned ColdBloodedTorture to break an even ''bigger'' badass: Erza. Who was reduced to to screaming in agony, while crying TearsOfFear. [[{{Understatement}} This is one scary lady]].
* BullyingADragon: Erza wasn't too happy about all that torture...
* ClothingDamage: As a result of Marde Guille's torture. Part of her LeotardOfPower starts snapping off... and her helmet and mask starts to crack, revealing [[FaceFramedInShadow part of her face]].
* ColdBloodedTorture: She does this to Erza, ranging from flogging to ElectricTorture, all amplified by her AgonyBeam. And this while threatening to turn Mirajane into a demon if Erza didn't break. [[BullyingADragon And then Erza got loose...]] Marde Guille later tortures Kyouka by tying her up with thorny vines as punishment for taking pleasure in torturing Erza since he sees that as a sign that Kyouka, in a warped way, actually likes humans.
* CoolHelmet: And it's GemEncrusted!
** CoolMask: Though her eyes and mouth are visible.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Those who are too weak for her reinforcement magic (like the mages of Succubus Eye) suffer this.
* CuteMonsterGirl: Though she is somewhat more monstrous than Seilah and Silver, she is still more human-looking than most of the other demons, with only her bird-like hands and feet marking her as a demon. Once her mask comes off, she's actually quite attractive, once you get passed the bladed fingers and bird-like feet.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: After Crawford transfers the last surviving key to Face from Jellal to himself, she unceremoniously [[BackStab Back Stabs]] him, cutting out the middle man and unsealing Face instantaneously.
* DarkActionGirl: She fought and won against Minerva, after all. She's also able to match Erza blow for blow.
* {{Dominatrix}}: Carries a ''lot'' of these themes, especially after [[DidTheyOrDidntThey the implications with Seilah]].
* TheDragon: To Marde Guille (himself an example of TheDragon), since she's the ''de facto'' leader of the Nine Demon Gates.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: She genuinely cares for Seliah, and is visibly distraught by news of her defeat.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: Marde trapping all of their soldiers in Alegria along with Fairy Tail was too much even for her, which is ironic given how she did almost the exact same thing to Succubus Eye.
* {{Expy}}: No, you're not the only one who noticed that her appearance and outfit are suspiciously similar to that of [[Franchise/{{Dragonball}} Frieza]].
* ForTheEvulz: Kyouka seems happy that Erza can't or won't tell her anything about Jellal since it means she can keep torturing her.
** To put it further, she later states outright that she could have just used Seilah's [[PeoplePuppets power]] to pull the information out of Erza, but didn't want to because "[[{{Sadist}} there's no fun in that]]."
* HarpingOnAboutHarpies: Her birdlike features give off this vibe, though she seems to be missing actual wings.
* HartmanHips: She has very large and shapely hips and thighs and doesn't mind wearing clothing that shows them off. She also has big breasts, but given that [[WorldOfBuxom almost all girls in this verse have that]], her bust doesn't stand out nearly as much as her hips.
* TheHeavy: For the first two parts of the Tartarus Arc. She's later replaced in this role by [[EvilerThanThou Marde Guille]].
* InTheBack: Subjected Crawford to being ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice. [[KarmicDeath Fitting.]]
* LackOfEmpathy: Even Minerva was horrified by the callous way she dismissed all the people she just killed with the single argument, "they were too weak."
** She shows just how far she is willing to go when she kidnaps Mirajane and Erza, torturing Erza and threatening to convert Mirajane into a demon unless Erza reveals where Jellal is. This despite the fact Erza has no way of knowing where he is.
** Marde Guille punishes Kyouka because she's able to find value in humans as a form of amusement.
* LaserGuidedKarma: Captures and tortures Erza to obtain information while accusing her of things that are patently untrue. Marde Guille does much the same to her when she reports to him.
* LeotardOfPower: And a very revealing one at that.
* MagicEnhancement: Kyouka uses a brutal version of this. If the people she casts it on are strong, they'll get much stronger. If they aren't, they're turned into paper dolls. Apparently, nobody in Succubus Eye (save Minerva) was strong enough.
** Happens to Minerva after she lost her fight with Kyouka, but Minerva impressed her enough to be recruited into Tartarus... [[CameBackWrong as a demon.]]
* NoSell: Being slammed through Cube so hard she comes out the other side at the point of a giant lance? That's nothing.
-->'''Kyouka:''' "I quite like you."
* OhCrap: Let's just say she should have known how Erza would react once [[BullyingADragon she was free]].
* PsychoLesbian: The 'psycho' part is obvious, the 'lesbian' part a bit less so. She tells Seilah she's going to 'take care of her', and in a later scene, Seilah is shown in bed, with her MinidressOfPower replaced with a ModestyBedsheet, [[DidTheyOrDidntThey smiling]].
* {{Sadist}}: And holy shit, ''how''! Marde Guille actually disapproves of this, since it means that Kyouka actually ''likes'' humans (as playthings).
* ShutUpKirk: Dismisses Erza's criticism of the demons' BlindObedience to Zeref without even considering thinking for themselves, stating that a human 'could never understand.'
* SlasherSmile: It's scary enough to make ''Minerva'' nervous.
* {{Stripperific}}: About the only part of her body still left to the imagination is her face.
** Not even her face is up to the imagination anymore, now that her mask has been destroyed.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Zeref, but for a different reason than any of the previous Dark Mages in the series. As a demon, she (and presumably, the other demons) sees Zeref, their creator, almost as a father-like figure. Kyouka in particular claims that everything Tartarus as a guild is doing is for him alone, and even says that she and the other demons are working so that they can curry his favor enough to rejoin him at his side.
* UnusualEars: Apparently, those green, fluffy things protruding out of the sides of her CoolHelmet are her ears.
* WhipItGood: Her fingers can extend into long, whiplike appendages. They're also pointed at the end, perfect for [[ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice impalement]].
* WolverineClaws: She can also use them like this.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: She only wants the strongest soldiers, the weak (like Succubus Eye, much to Minerva's horror) are unnecessary and have no business being alive.
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Green Hair]]: The cover of Volume 42 shows that her hair is, in fact, green. In fact, it's a case of RapunzelHair that she keeps in a long ponytail wrapped in some kind of cloth that protrudes out from under her cloak, like an actual tail.
* ZettaiRyouiki: She wears things that resemble boots that go from mid-thigh to just below the knees (leaving her avian feet bare), giving her a Type A. Bonus points for her thighs above her boots being [[ThongOfShielding completely bare]].

The first member of Tartarus to appear and the one who was actually responsible for the Village's freezing. He is a very powerful Ice Wizard, utilizing Devil Slayer magic. He's also a demon from the Books of Zeref, a trait shared by all of the Nine Demon Gates of Tartarus. [[spoiler:He is actually the reanimated corpse of Silver Fullbuster, Gray's biological father, currently acting as a host for none other than Deliora, the same demon responsible for killing Gray's parents. After being trapped by Ur's use of Iced Shell for 10 years until his death, Tartarus revived Deliora by using their ResurrectiveImmortality technology.]]

[[spoiler:It turns out, though, that he ''isn't'' Deliora, and was in full control of his actions the entire time.]]
----
* AffablyEvil: He's a pretty nice guy... just [[YouWontLikeMeWhenImAngry don't piss him off]], or he'll freeze you solid before you can blink.
** Later [[SubvertedTrope subverted]] '''''hard'''''. [[spoiler:Deliora was apparently just so fixated on killing Gray that he basically didn't even care about the other members of Fairy Tail.]]
* AndYourLittleDogToo: Just in case he hadn't [[KickTheDog kicked enough dogs]] already, he promised that once he was done with Gray, he was going after Lyon next. And after that, the rest of Fairy Tail.
* ArchEnemy: He is Gray's. [[spoiler:He's the demon who wiped out his hometown and forced his beloved mentor and surrogate mother to sacrifice herself to stop him. To top it off, he's using Gray's father's ''corpse'' as a vessel.]]
* {{Badass}}: He froze an entire village full of Giants and the residual spirit of a Fire Dragon solid, ''[[OneManArmy by himself]]'', and later did the same thing to Natsu.
** BadassBeard
** BadassCape
* BerserkButton: He's rather cordial with Natsu at first and even [[AffablyEvil thanks him]] for melting the Giants' Village, since he only froze it due to a misunderstanding. The moment Natsu says Gray's name (since Silver smells like him), Silver freezes Natsu solid in an instant and tells him not to say that 'disgusting name' again.
* ChekhovsGunman: [[spoiler:He's Deliora, the demon responsible for Gray's parents and Ur using Iced Shell, and just about everything else wrong with Gray's life. He is [[DemonicPossession possessing]] the body of Silver Fullbuster, Gray's father.]]
* CurbStompBattle: Froze Natsu solid with one wave of his hand. Natsu became another of Tartarus' prisoners for his trouble.
** His fight with Gray similarly is one, with him [[NoSell No Selling]] all of Gray's attacks.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: The whole reason he taught himself Ice Devil Slayer Magic was for the added bonus of being able to eat ice, thus rendering magic like Ice Make useless against him.
* DemonSlaying: 'Devil Slayer' Magic. It hits ForMassiveDamage against demons, such as those from the [[TomeOfEldritchLore Books of Zeref]]. It's no slouch against ''dragons'' either.
* DemonicPossession: [[spoiler:Turns out he's actually Deliora, who is using Silver's body to move around. Or so he claims.]]
* DidYouJustPunchOutCthulhu: He ended up doing this to Atlas Flame's spirit to a degree on the assumption he was a demon, even though the being he attacked was a Dragon.
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He is first shown at the grave of someone in his debut, implying that he was there to pay respects.
* EvilIsHammy: During TheReveal, he shows us that [[NotSoStoic he can really be this]] when he's in full villain mode. [[spoiler:He delivered one KickTheDog after another to Gray, all while sporting [[SlasherSmile Slasher Smiles]] and [[NightmareFace Nightmare Faces]] that would have given ''Jackal'' chills.]]
* FangsAreEvil: Since revealing his identity, his canines have become quite prominent.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: He has a noticeable scar across the upper-left side of his face.
* HandsomeLech: He shamelessly flirts with Kyouka. She seems more amused by it than anything.
* HarmlessFreezing: Zigzagged. It's basically kryptonite to demons, and Atlas Flame's spirit had lost most of its memories and was on the verge of fading after being trapped in the ice for so long, but the giants themselves were completely unharmed after being thawed out. The same thing happened to Natsu after he had the misfortune of pressing Silver's BerserkButton, looking just fine after being completely encased in ice.
* HunterOfHisOwnKind: Despite being a demon in a genocidal guild full of demons, he actually hunts demons and apparently consumes their souls. When he interrupts Franmalth's battle with Natsu, the former looks absolutely ''terrified'' of him. That said, Atlas Flame actually referred to him as a human when describing the person who froze the village. Keyes actually [[LampshadeHanging lampshades]] this, suggesting that it was possible that Marde Guille accepted Silver into the Nine Demon Gates in order to act as a deterrent to keep the other Gates in line; but admitted that it ultimately didn't matter, since Silver was more than powerful enough to qualify for the position regardless of what kind of magic he used.
* AnIcePerson: Easily the strongest one we've seen in the series so far. His magic froze an entire village and was mistaken for [[DangerousForbiddenTechnique Iced Shell]], a magic that [[TakingYouWithMe usually takes the caster's life in the process]]. It isn't; his magic is just ''that'' powerful.
* {{Irony}}: His current power-set is pretty ironic [[spoiler:since he was originally defeated by an ice mage. Subverted though because it turns out he learned his powers specifically to NoSell Ice Make.]]
* ItsPersonal: Whatever his history with Gray is, it's quite clear that Silver absolutely '''''loathes''''' him.
** [[spoiler:The revelation that he is Deliora reveals ItsPersonal against ''Ur'' instead, and thus by extension any of her pupils.]]
* KnightTemplar: Hinted at. He attacked Atlas Flame and froze him and the entire village along with it, under the assumption that the Fire Dragon was a demon.
* LightIsNotGood: He has magic designed to kill demons, he wears crosses as earrings, and Atlas Flame even referred to him as an exorcist. He's also a member of a Dark Guild made up almost entirely of demons whose stated goal is to KillAllHumans.
* LightningBruiser: May be this. He is certainly fast enough to grab Gray and disappear before the rest of Fairy Tail can react. ''Before'' another demon attacks them.
* NobleDemon: Despite being Tartarus' TokenGoodTeammate he does seem to be ''mostly'' loyal to the dark guild as a whole, as shown when he finally joins in the fight against Fairy Tail. Of course, that could just be because he was finally able to confront [[ArchEnemy Gray]].
** [[spoiler:Subverted. He's actually Deliora, making him just as bad as his allies. Possibly DoubleSubverted as he may be lying about being Deliora.]]
* NoSell: Being a Ice Demon Slayer, he can freely eat any form of Ice magic and is otherwise hardly affected by it, which lets him smack Gray around without a care in the world. Even when Gray reverses his own ice on him, it only does minor damage despite its [[KryptoniteFactor anti-demon properties]].
* TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou: He refused to let any of the other Nine Gates try to fight Gray. He grabbed the kid and promptly got both of them far away from the battlefield everyone else was on.
* TheReveal: Threefold. [[spoiler:He's Silver Fullbuster, Gray's Dad. Or rather he's actually Deliora in possession of his body. Then it's revealed the he really is Silver Fullbuster.]]
* PermaStubble
* PetTheDog: Natsu and Lisanna were subjected to a ShamefulStrip and thrown into a cell together. He later visits their cell and gives Lisanna a blanket to cover herself with.
** KickTheDog: [[spoiler:Telling Gray he's Deliora in possession of his Dad's body and gloating about wanting to kill him, counts for sure.]]
* SpannerInTheWorks: He let Happy escape after capturing Natsu, leaking the nature of their base, and letting Fairy Tail pinpoint their exact location. He also may have dropped the sword for Natsu to use to escape his cell. Franmalth actually comments on this.
* TokenGoodTeammate: Compared to the other eight Demon Gates. He hunts demons, and when the others all talk about their plan and how the current destruction they've caused is just the start, he's noticeably silent and going by his expression, he's less than thrilled. While he did freeze the Giant's Village, he did it because he thought Atlas Flame was a demon, and actually thanks Natsu for thawing it out. He also assured a terrified messenger that he wouldn't bite just because he was disturbed.
** Apart from Kyouka, who was kind of tied up at the time, he's the only one of the remaining Nine Demon Gates to not participate in the attack on Lucy after she escaped Alegria.
** EvilAllAlong: [[spoiler:Given that he's Deliora.]]
*** [[spoiler:It turns out that he may not be Deliora, though whether he's evil is still unconfirmed.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: Kyouka comments on him showing up in his 'human form,' implying his current, humanoid appearance isn't his true one. If Seilah's battle with Mira is any indication, the humanoid form's real purpose is as a PowerLimiter. [[spoiler:As it turns out, his true form is actually ''Deliora''.]]
* WeaksauceWeakness: {{Averted}}. He is a demon, but when Gray uses his own anti-demon magic to blast him, he tanks it and suffers only minor wounds.
* WalkingSpoiler: And not just for the reason [[WildMassGuessing fans thought]].
* WhamLine: [[spoiler:"My name is Deliora! Surely you haven't forgotten me, have you, Gray!?"]]

** His powers may not work on demons.
* CurbStompBattle: He absolutely annihilated the Magic Council with seemingly little effort. Only one member survived: Doranbalt.
* DeathByIrony: He refused to listen to [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim Torafuzar's advice]] when it comes to Lucy. Lucy gets a PowerUp and kills him shortly after.
* DeathIsCheap: Unlike Tempester, who loses his memories whenever he is resurrected, Jackal doesn't seem to suffer any negative consequences whatsoever, at least that we've seen.
* DidNotSeeThatComing: Just like Tempester did with Laxus, Jackal ''severely'' underestimated Natsu. Too bad [[LeeroyJenkins Leeroy Jenkinsing]] him is (usually) a really, ''really'' bad idea. Likewise he didn't expect Lucy to summon a third spirit, Aquarius, let alone [[spoiler:summon the Spirit King]]. He also didn't react well to [[spoiler:the Spirit King giving Lucy [[MakingASplash Aquarius' powers]].]]
* {{Expy}}: [[spoiler: Blowing up a girl's head for no reason ]] not to mention his overall character with that manic grin on his face. Seems like [[Manga/{{Bleach}} Grimmjow]]'s long lost brother perhaps?
** Grimmjow at least had some sense of honor, whereas Jackal had none (taking hostages and making Lucy choose between an ex-Magic Council member (a potential informant) or a pregnant woman).
* FangsAreEvil: Goes with his LittleBitBeastly appearance. His teeth look like that of a canine.
* ForTheEvulz: Outright states to Lucy that he's not really looking to gain anything, and that he [[PunyHumans just sees humans as playthings]].
* HavingABlast: His magic causes massive explosions to occur anywhere around him.
* HatesBeingTouched: His reaction to Lamy's shows of affection were borderline {{tsundere}} levels of this.
-->"[[PrecisionFStrike Fuckin']] gross, get off me!"
** Or maybe not, given he [[spoiler: kills her]] without blinking an eye during his fight with Lucy.
* HellishPupils: Just like a cat's eyes.
* KansaiRegionalAccent
* KilledOffForReal: A powered-up Lucy deals him the finishing blow after Tartarus has already lost the equipment they needed to maintain ResurrectiveImmortality. His allies later confirm that his magical power has vanished. He's not coming back.
* LaserGuidedKarma[=/=]KarmicDeath: If he had listened to [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim Torafuzar's advice]] when it comes to Lucy instead of torturing her ForTheEvulz, she wouldn't have summoned the Celestial Spirit King, gain a PowerUp, and then kill ''him''. His death at her hands is entirely his own fault.
* LawOfDisproportionateResponse: Torafuzar telling him to stop toying with Lucy and just kill her? He gets a little angry but nothing comes out of it. Lamy supporting the torture and suggesting blowing up Lucy's breasts? [[spoiler:He blows her to pieces. Apparently this was more annoying]].
* LittleBitBeastly: He looks like a [[CatGirl Cat Boy.]]
* MadBomber: Aside from blowing up the Magic Council's headquarters, he started destroying random buildings during his fight with Natsu, Lucy, and Wendy pretty much [[ForTheEvulz because he could]].
* NotQuiteDead: See ResurrectiveImmortality above for the reason why.
** Now see [[spoiler: KilledOffForReal]] for why he won't be coming back after more recent events.
* OffingTheAnnoyance: [[spoiler:What he does to Lamy.]]
* OhCrap: You can almost ''hear'' him shitting bricks as he sees Natsu find a way around his CollisionDamage ability, which was the only real advantage he had over him since Natsu can just eat his explosions.
* OneWingedAngel: He can turn into a werewolf-like form as a last resort. Too bad for him, Natsu's used to dealing with folks who use brute force.
* PeekABangs: Covers an entire half of his face.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: His Curse causes spontaneous explosions of all sizes and intensities. He can demolish an entire building without even trying.
* RevengeBeforeReason: Torafuzar suggests killing Lucy but Jackal does not care.
** When Lamy beats him to grabbing Lucy he flat out [[spoiler: blows Lamy's head up! For no reason.]]
* RevengeByProxy: With Happy and Natsu falling victim to Alegria, he decides he wants to take out his being a SoreLoser on Lucy instead.
* SadisticChoice: Gave Mikelo a choice between both he and his granddaughter dying, or him giving him - and by extension, Tartarus--the location of a certain MacGuffin he's looking for, in which case he would live... but his granddaughter would still die. Later he presents Lucy with a choice between saving Mikelo or a pregnant woman. Lucy is spared from making this choice by Natsu.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: He gets an even longer one after being resurrected by Lamy.
* SlasherSmile: Massacres Magic Councilors, blows up a village, and forces more than one SadisticChoice on others while sporting one of these. Can you tell he loves his job?
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: 'Jackal,' 'Jaguar...' Tartarus seems to really suffer from this.
* SuperpowerLottery: His basic offense is to blow up anything around him without any apparent limit. If you try to attack him, you blow up from touching him. If you try to fight long-range, he'll blow up the attack before it reaches him. If not for Natsu's ability to consume heat-based attacks, he'd be nearly unstoppable, which is best shown in Ch. 361 while Natsu is unconscious.
** The only other thing that can give him trouble aside from Natsu is Aquarius and maybe Juvia due to their abilities to produce endless torrents of water. But even then, Aquarius can only hold him off for so long.
* TakingYouWithMe: As with Tempester, once his defeat seems inevitable, he tries to blow up the town with Natsu's group still in it. It's thwarted by ''Happy'' of all people carrying him above the city.
* UngratefulBastard: Killed [[spoiler:Lamy, despite her reviving him earlier.]]
* VillainBall: He so focused on trying to torture Lucy for his previous loss instead of outright killing her that it gives her time to summon Aquarius [[spoiler: who sacrifices herself to summon the Spirit King and destroy Tartarus's home base.]]
* VillainousBreakdown: When he finds that a "puny human" can actually go toe to toe with him. Even moreso when his TakingYouWithMe plan fails.
* WhatTheHellAreYou: During his fight with Natsu. Apparently, he's never heard of Dragon Slayers, or at least has never actually seen one in action before; the fact that Natsu's fire-eating abilities basically made him immune to Jackal's explosions took him by complete surprise.
* WouldHitAGirl: Or more specifically, would blow up a girl just [[KickTheDog to make a point]] to her grandfather, an ex-Magic Councilor. Or worse, would do the same to a pregnant woman, while forcing Lucy to decide if her life was more important than a Magic Counselor's.

!!Tempester
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Tartarus\\
'''Curse:''' [[BlowYouAway Currently Unnamed]]\\
'''Guild Mark:''' Left Forearm (second body)]]
One of the Nine Demon Gates of Tartarus. He was tasked with killing former members of the Council, including Yajima. Fried, Bickslow and Evergreen attempt to stop him, but are swiftly defeated. He was seconds away from killing Yajima before Laxus arrived. He later used AntiMagic Particles to essentially gas an entire city in order to attempt to take Fried, Bickslow, Evergreen, and Laxus with him, but this cost him his body. He now has an entirely new body, courtesy of Lamy... only [[LaserGuidedAmnesia without his memories intact.]]
----
* AmbiguouslyBrown: His second body.
* {{Badass}}: When you easily [[CurbStompBattle curb-stomp]] three of Fairy Tail's strongest mages, then take an attack from TheAce and seem unfazed by it, you definitely qualify.
* {{Bishonen}}: His second body is this in spades, complete with WhiteHairBlackHeart.
* BodyBackUpDrive: And it looks nothing like the first body we see him in.
* CurbStompBattle: The Raijin Tribe barely had time to attack him when he made his appearance, and he blew them away without any trouble.
** This is reversed on him when Laxus beats him without even trying.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: He seems to be aware of how strong Fairy Tail is and doesn't waste time attacking. One panel after appearing, he uses a Cyclone to destroy the building he and his enemies are in, and he makes sure to paralyze the Raijin Tribe so they can't interfere.
** When Laxus beats him, he uses a deadly attack that results in Laxus getting a GameBreakingInjury, while he can simply regenerate.
* DarkSkinnedBlond: In his second body.
* DeathIsCheap: When he kills himself using his most powerful attack, he reforms himself back at Tartarus' HQ. Otherwise, we assume he's only as immortal as the rest of the demons in Tartarus. The only downside to this is that he can't remember his own name each time this happens. It's happened often enough that he no longer cares about his name.
* DidNotSeeThatComing: He says he did not expect someone from Fairy Tail (read: Laxus)-- or indeed any human-- to be so strong, and thus he wasn't as serious as he could of been.
* ElementalPowers: Apparently he's got more than just wind.
** BlowYouAway: He uses some kind of Wind Magic that summons cyclones. He can also put them around his limbs or use them to hit from afar.
** PlayingWithFire: Can create pretty massive fireballs.
** ShockAndAwe: Shown to envelop Natsu in lightning and have him drop on the ground with it.
* {{Expy}}: His second body is the ''spitting image'' of Xehanort from ''Franchise/KingdomHearts''.
* IdiotHair: In his second body.
* InTheHood: He wears a hood to cover his face though most of his face is still visible.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: Every time he's reborn, he loses his memories.
* LittleBitBeastly: He seems to have fur and a animal like face, though what kind is unknown due to his Hood. Seems to be a bit Lion but its hard to tell.
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: His second body.
* MageKiller: His most powerful attack makes him explode into toxic mist that is especially dangerous to magic users, though it's also deadly to ordinary people. The only downside is that he has to reform himself back at Tartarus' headquarters.
* MeaningfulEcho: Two of his quotes in particular reference something [[http://www.mangareader.net/fairy-tail/340/14 oddly]] [[http://www.mangareader.net/fairy-tail/250/19 familiar]]...
--> '''Tempester:''' "Judgment is upon humanity. [[{{Beat}} [...]]] Fall... into hell."
* MeaningfulName: [[CaptainObvious Yes, he's the guy throwing around Wind Spells]].
* NeckLift: He had lifted Yajima up by the throat and was about to blast him with magic when Laxus showed up.
* NoSell: He took a direct hit from several members of the Raijin Tribe, and [[MadeOfIron barely even flinched.]]
* TheParalyzer: His magic seems to paralyze whoever it hits, given how the Raijin tribe was unable to move afterwards.
* PersonOfMassDestruction: His tornadoes ''leveled'' Yajima's restaurant. And his AntiMagic Particles were eerily reminiscent of a real-life chemical weapons attack, body count and collateral damage included.
* TheRedBaron: Tempester "the Immortal".
* RuleOfSexy: In-universe example; Lamy says this was the reasoning behind his new appearance (while shamelessly fawning over him).
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Tempester/Tempesta.
* TheStoic: Aside from his VerbalTic below, he hardly seems to speak, and when he does, his sentences consist of about three or four words total.
* TakingYouWithMe: Subverted with his final attack. At first it looks like he's killing himself to take out Laxus, the Raijin Tribe, and Yajima, but then he reveals that he's perfectly alive and just needs to return to HQ to reform himself.
* VerbalTic: He has a habit of saying things like "Hyuru" or "Bo" when he uses his magic.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: His second body.

!!Franmalth
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Tartarus\\
'''Curse:''' [[TheAssimilator Revolution]]]]
A member of the Nine Demon Gates, who resembles a short, fat {{cyclops}} clad head-to-toe in armor, except for the lower half of his head, and uses a cane to walk. He's in charge of managing Tartarus' money, and has a habit of [[TheHyena constantly laughing]].

----
* AchillesHeel: He cannot assimilate anything without a soul. Natsu exploits this by beating him with a big rock.
* {{Acrofatic}}: Much to Natsu's shock. When channeling Hades' soul, he's firmly in LightningBruiser territory.
* TheAssimilator: His CombatTentacles-like limbs don't just drain energy. Leave them attached long enough, and ''you get absorbed''. [[PowerCopying Powers included.]]
** AllYourPowersCombined: By the sheer amount of souls he's absorbed, including Aries, Taurus, and... ''[[OhCrap Master Hades]].''
* BattleStrip: His armor comes off as he fights Natsu. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] in that his armor is apparently more like a straightjacket that [[RubberMan restrains his body mass]] than armor, and what's more, [[NighInvulnerable he doesn't need it anyway]].
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Don't let his constant giggling and obsession with money fool you; even Natsu was struggling with this guy.
* CatchPhrase: "How much is X worth? How much?"
* CheshireCatGrin: ''Constantly''.
* CombatTentacles: Kind of. While they're actually his limbs, his rubber-like body can sprout ''more'' of them from almost any part of his body. And ''those'' limbs can sprout ''even more''.
* {{Cyclops}}: He usually has one large, glowing eye in the center of his head, usually visible through his armor's facemask.
* FatBastard: His constant obsessing over the quantitative worth of everything from the actions and loyalty of his teammates to the souls he's absorbed make him the perfect embodiment of {{greed}} among the demons.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Absorbing the Celestial Spirits backfires immensely when Lucy tries to call them back to the spirit world to save them. Franmalth finds himself being sent to the spirit world along with them, forcing him to release them to free himself. Lucy then bluffs him by pretending that Natsu is also a Celestial Spirit, which spooks Franmalth into freeing Natsu too.
* TheHyena: He laughs as he wonders how many people Jackal was able to kill at the Magic Council.
* KilledOffForReal / DeathByIrony: He dies and releases all of the souls he absorbed, but boasts to himself that [[ResurrectiveImmortality he would just be resurrected]]. [[TemptingFate He arrives in Hell's Core just as Mira blows it all sky-high.]] [[spoiler: Subverted in that he did survive, granted Lamy had as well; until the latter's own subsequent, proper, [[KarmicDeath karmic]] [[DeathByIrony death.]]]]
* LargeHam: A candidate for one of the largest hams in the entire series so far.
** EvilIsHammy
* MorallyBankruptBanker: He scolded Tempester for using anti-magic particles, saying they were [[AwesomeButImpractical too expensive to use casually]], and even dismissed Doriate for being too expensive to justify his usefulness. Considering he was also the one who cut a deal with Crawford, he's likely the one who manages Tartarus' finances.
* {{Narm}}: InUniverse: when he transforms with Hades' soul, both Lucy and Natsu points out that he's not threatening at all and even ridiculous, in stark contrast to Hades' menacing OneWingedAngel. Sadly, funny looking or not, he can still kick Natsu's ass with ease.
* NighInvulnerable: Natsu's attacks just piss him off. He even [[NoSell No Sells]] ''Lightning Flame Dragon's Roar.'' Turns out it's because they're magic attacks and he can absorb them. ''Physical'' attacks, on the other hand...
** That becomes a bit of ContinuityNod when you remember that the real Hades faced down that exact same spell, with similar results ([[NoSell or lack thereof]]).
* NotQuiteDead: Barely avoids death by attaching himself to Happy as a tiny mushroom-like parasite.
* OhCrap: His reaction to Natsu [[DynamicEntry busting in through their wall.]] As well as when Lucy manages to call back her spirits from him through force of will. Getting tricked by Lucy into thinking Natsu is a spirit that he releases his hold on him and Natsu getting around that "Magic Won't Work On Me" detail by ''smashing him with a rock''.
** [[BatmanTheAnimatedSeries It was a BIG rock.]]
* OverlyLongTongue: And it tends to wag and dangle out of his mouth while [[TheHyena he laughs]].
* RubberMan: His limbs can stretch out to grab something at the opposite end of the room. Very helpful, for TheAssimilator.
* SpikesOfVillainy: Can be seen once he bursts out of his armor.
* SuperpowerLottery: His role as TheAssimilator gives him the potential to make him one of the most dangerous enemies yet in the series, if he wasn't such a damn CloudCuckooLander. To put things into perspective, he's able to absorb an indefinite amount of souls, including ''Celestial Spirits'', as well as [[HeroKiller Hades]], the ArcVillain of Sirius Island.
* TemptingFate: No more than a few seconds after reassuring Crawford that he was safe, cue Natsu knocking down their wall.
* TurnsRed: Whipping out his 'most powerful soul' draws an OhCrap out of Natsu, Lucy, Happy, and Carla. Did we mention that it's ''Hades?''
* VillainousBreakdown: While he was never quite composed to begin with, he goes completely berserk when he realizes the Face project failed. [[spoiler:Even though it didn't.]]
* YouKeepUsingThatWord: During an exchange with Natsu.
-->'''Franmalth:''' "I'm perfectly capable of telling the difference between rats and humans! [[DontExplainTheJoke I metaphorically called her a rat because she was sneaking around like one!]]"
-->'''Natsu:''' "By the way, Carla isn't a rat either, in case you were wondering."
-->'''Franmalth:''' "I KNOW THAT YOU IDIOT!"
* YourSoulIsMine: The way his curse works? He doesn't just absorb your body, and your powers. According to him, he absorbs ''you.'' '''''ALL''''' of you, [[AndIMustScream soul included.]]

!!Torafuzar
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Tartarus\\
'''Curse:''' Unknown]]

A gruff, [[NoNonsenseNemesis no-nonsense]] member of the Nine Demon Gates that resembles a hulking [[ReptilesAreAbhorrent lizardman]]. He takes his missions very seriously, and values [[PragmaticVillainy efficiency]] over [[ForTheEvulz cruelty]], and to that end, commonly scolds other demons. He was tasked with pursuing Lucy after Alegria's activation.
----
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: His two large protrusions extending from his arms are razor-sharp, and can be used like this.
** AbsurdlySharpBlade: Just one was enough to partially break through Loke's Regulus magic, giving him a nasty cut on his arm.
* DangerouslyGenreSavvy: He wanted to hurry up and kill Lucy instead of toying with her. Jackal didn't agree with him. Good thing, too!
* HonorBeforeReason: Unlike Ezel, he's not one to start causing chaos just for fun. He also criticizes Jackal for [[WhyDontYouJustShootHim not finishing Lucy off]].
* LightningBruiser: Despite his size and bulk, this guy is ''fast''.
* NoNonsenseNemesis: Rather than waste time torturing Lucy, he just wants to get it over with and kill her. The fact that Jackal and Lamy disagreed annoyed him, eventually making him [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere stomp off]].
* NoSell: Aquarius summoned a tidal wave that washed away Jackal. Torafuzar ''swam through it'' without breaking a sweat and gave Aquarius a deep gash across her shoulder for her trouble.
* RedBaron: Torafuzar "of the Darkness."
* ReptilesAreAbhorrent: He looks like some sort of lizardman.
** SharkMan: Alternatively, one can see him similar to a shark by likening his head and arm spikes to fins. Furthermore, "''Torafuza''me" is [[BilingualBonus Japanese]] for "Zebra Shark". He's also an OlympicSwimmer capable of swimming through ''Aquarius''' attacks.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Fan groups call him "Torafusa".
* SuperToughness: He parries a blow from Gajeel, who had converted his skin [[ChromeChampion into metal]], using only his forearm... and ''Gajeel'' was the one who got hurt from the punch.

!!Ezel
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Tartarus\\
'''Curse:''' [[StormOfBlades Tenga Goken]]\\
'''Guild Mark:''' [[MultiArmedAndDangerous Upper Right]] Forearm]]

A large, MultiArmedAndDangerous member of the Nine Demon Gates known as the "[[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Child Slicer]]". He was the one who chopped up the village Gray and Juvia were sent to, as well as the one Kyouka dispatched to manually activate Face following Crawford's death, and has to defend Face when Wendy goes to try to deactivate it.
----
* AbsurdlySharpBlade: His Curse involves these, though they're not visible.
* AxCrazy: Quite eager to start slaughtering humans. His epithet "Child Slicer" doesn't help, and implies that he was the one who cut up the entire town Gray and Juvia went to. Definitely proves it during his fight with Wendy.
* BloodKnight: Unlike Torafusa, he states he doesn't care about demon dignity as long as he can fight something.
* ChildHater: He didn't take Wendy seriously at all, even going so far as to refer to her as 'midget.'
* ClusterFBomb: Even more than Jackal. Ezel swears like a sailor in one translation.
* CombatTentacles: His tentacle-like limbs can be used like this.
* ImAHumanitarian: He was going to ''eat Carla''.
* {{Irony}}: His epithet in Japanese refers to a demon-slaying sword.
* KarmicDeath: His nickname is "Child Slicer" and is the one who activated Face. He's then defeated by Wendy, a child, and apparently dies in the explosion following Face's self-destruction mechanism.
** KilledOffForReal: He arrived back into Hell's Core, the source of the guild's ResurrectiveImmortality, just slightly before Mira completely destroyed it. It's more or less clear he won't be coming back.
* KickTheDog: He was about to crush Wendy underneath his CombatTentacles, until he got the bright idea of wanting to [[ImAHumanitarian eat]] Carla after Carla tried to save Wendy. [[TookALevelInBadass Bad]] [[BerserkButton idea]].
* MrExposition: He explained to Wendy how Face worked... including the '[[AppliedPhlebotinum ethernano]]' in the air surrounding it. What kind of Dragon Slayer is Wendy, again?
* MultiArmedAndDangerous: Four arms and seven tentacles used as legs.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: Ezel is responsible for having Wendy [[TookALevelInBadass go from]] TagAlongKid [[PowerUp to a full-fledged Dragon Slayer]], after his attempt to eat Carla, prompting her to eat the air surrounding Face, unlocking her [[SuperMode Dragon Force]].
* OneWingedAngel: His "Slasher Form" has him gaining bigger fangs, a samuraiesque armor and huge black blades in lieu of his arms. However, is still not enough to defeat Wendy's Dragon Force.
* OhCrap: His reaction to sees that his swords can't cut through Wendy's increasing wind right before she blasts him away with the Dragon Force.
* ShoutOut: His surname and attacks refers to the five greatest Japanese swords: Douji Giri, Onimaru, Juzumaru, Odenta and Mikazuki. Except for Odenta, all others were quoted.
* StormOfBlades: His Curse involves huge, invisible [[AbsurdlySharpBlade Absurdly Sharp Blades]] that seem to extend from his hands.
* WeHardlyKnewYe: Aside from his one-frame introduction at the beginning of the arc, he gets only one noteworthy scene... and dies shortly afterward.
* WouldHurtAChild: Lives up to his moniker of 'Child Slicer' during his fight with [[TokenMiniMoe Wendy]].
* YouFightLikeACow: He spent the entire fight against Wendy taunting her, and was about to end it with a KickTheDog to Carla. Comes back to bite him in the ass, hard.

!!Seilah
[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Tartarus\\
'''Curse:''' [[PeoplePuppets Macro]]\\
'''Guild Mark:''' Stomach]]

A member of the Nine Demon Gates of Tartarus. Her magic allows her to manipulate the 'macra' found in the bodies of living creatures, giving her the ability to [[PeoplePuppets manipulate the movements and actions]] of those under her control. Most of the time, she's an EmotionlessGirl that speaks with story chapter motifs. She is also tasked with killing former members of the Magic Council, as well as finding the location of [[ArtifactOfDoom Face.]] She also had a plan to destroy the Fairy Tail Guild HQ, that would have ended up killing every single member of the Guild present, but failed due to [[SpannerInTheWorks Cana]].
----
* AbsoluteCleavage: Just as much as Kyouka.
* {{Badass}}: Anyone who can reduce Elfman to InelegantBlubbering, destroy the Fairy Tail headquarters (and almost succeed in killing off the entire guild if not for [[SpannerInTheWorks Cana]]), and then fight one of Fairy Tail's best mages while barely getting scratched herself more than deserves this title.
** BadassBoast:
--->"In a demon's story... there's no such thing as mercy."
** BadassBookworm: Enjoys good stories, though she finds the stories written by humans boring.
* TheBerserker: She apparently has no conscious control of her OneWingedAngel form and must use Macro on herself to focus on her target.
* BerserkButton: Do not, in her own words, embarrass her in front of Kyouka.
* ClothingDamage: Her entire MinidressOfPower gets ripped in two and becomes little more than DetachedSleeves as a result of going OneWingedAngel. More runes appear on her now-bare chest, just so that it [[NippledAndDimed still doesn't show anything]].
* CurbStompBattle: She was already kicking Mirajane's ass. But once Mirajane destroyed the resurrection labs and used her Satan Soul: Sitri form, Sayla whipped out her ''own'' OneWingedAngel form... and blew [[TheWorfEffect Mirajane's]] [[SoLastSeason Sitri form]] away. Ends up on the receiving end when Mirajane puppeteers Elfman (with Seilah's own Curse no less) into taking out Seilah with one blow when Seilah was distracted.
* CuteMonsterGirl: She's the most human looking of the group next to Silver.[[note]]And considering what Silver's [[AttackOfTheFiftyFootWhatever true form]] looks like and [[spoiler:that his current body was only acquired via DemonicPossession]], she's ''the'' most humanoid member of the Nine Demon Gates.[[/note]]
* DarkActionGirl: She's able to give ''Mirajane'' one hell of a fight.
* DealWithTheDevil: Invoked after Elfman begged her to stop using his body to strangle Lisanna.
-->"'Beg?' When a human begs something of a demon... that's when he must offer the demon their soul. Are you prepared to sell me your soul?"
* DidNotSeeThatComing: Did not expect Fairy Tail to escape the bomb placed in the guild due to Cana's magic, with the three Exceed carrying the cards of the members towards their base. Her [[OhCrap reaction speaks volumes]]. She gets it again at the tail end of her fight with Mirajane since she's batting Mira around she doesn't realize what Mira's up to before Mira commands Elfman to drop down right on top of her.
* DoesNotLikeShoes: Her ZettaiRyouiki are literally the only thing on her feet, besides nail polish.
* EeriePaleSkinnedBrunette: Black hair, but close enough.
* EmotionlessGirl: Generally a pretty quiet, reserved character. Until her BerserkButton is pushed...
* EyesDoNotBelongThere: On the palms of her hands in her OneWingedAngel form. Used to perform a KamehameHadouken.
* FemmeFatalons: Complete with nail polish. In her OneWingedAngel form, they become sharp enough to slice through flesh.
* ForcedToWatch: Her magic isn't mind control, meaning Elfman is fully aware of the fact that he was being forced to strangle Lisanna, invoking this trope.
* FurAndLoathing: Part of her MinidressOfPower appears to have been made from leopard skin, or something similar.
* HairDecoration: A hairband that runs perpendicular to her horns.
* HeroKiller: Mirajane Strauss is one of the best mages in Fairy Tail's roster, on par with Erza. Seilah was [[CurbStompBattle destroying her]] while barely taking a scratch, and would have killed her were it not for [[BigDamnHeroes Elfman]]'s DynamicEntry, and that was ''without'' the use of [[PeoplePuppets Macro]]. Which, by the way, as Elfman [[InelegantBlubbering eloquently demonstrated]], if you get hit with that, you are '''screwed'''.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Mirajane uses Seilah's own signature Curse to puppeteer Elfman (which was only possible because Seilah used Macro on him already making this a double example) into striking down Seilah when she was too busy trying to finish off Mirajane.
* HornedHumanoid: Aside from the markings, this is one of the only physical features she has that doesn't look entirely human.
* [[IHaveYourWife I Have Your Sister]]: Her leverage over Elfman, to get him to drop a FantasticNuke lacrima ''in Fairy Tail's guild hall''. Somewhat justified, though, in the sense that he [[PeoplePuppets no longer has a say in the matter]].
* ImpossiblyLowNeckline: How the hell does that MinidressOfPower stay up?
* LaserGuidedKarma: Just like Rustyrose, her defeat comes at the hands of someone she previously beat. In this case Elfman and ironically once again through someone taking control of him.
* NightOfTheLivingMooks: Played with; she openly admits that corpses are harder for her to control than living PeoplePuppets. As she demonstrates with the corpse of a freshly-slain ex-Magic Councillor, and then with Elfman.
* NecessaryDrawback: When she goes One-Winged Angel she uses all her power in that form, weakening her control over others.
* NoSell: On the giving and receiving end of this. Mirajane can't use "Takeover" on her and she can't use Macro on Mirajane. She resorts to using Macro on herself to go OneWingedAngel. Mirajane was able to use "Takeover" to steal Seilah's Macro Curse, leading to Seilah's defeat.
* OhCrap: To say she reacts badly to Cana saving the guild and allowing Fairy Tail to actually counter and attack is an understatement.
-->"This is... My fault..."
* OneWingedAngel: Accessed by using Macro on herself and removing her limiter. Her horns grow twice as large, she gains BlankWhiteEyes (with ExtraEyes elsewhere on her body, including [[EyesDoNotBelongThere the palms of her hands]], her MinidressOfPower splits into DetachedSleeves, and she gains even more runes on her body, including her [[BarbieDollAnatomy now bare chest]]. Her OneWingedAngel form is borderline EldritchAbomination levels of freaky-looking.
* PeoplePuppets: By manipulating the "Macra" inside people, she can control them. She notes that it's easier to do this with living beings than with corpses.
* PsychoLesbian: Seems to be in a sexual relationship with Kyouka. Even more so when she is furious at Elfman for "embarrassing" her in front of Kyouka.
* PsychoticSmirk: Right before the FantasticNuke lacrima she ordered Elfman to plant in Fairy Tail's headquarters detonates.
* SadisticChoice: See [[IHaveYourWife I Have Your Sister]]. She's making Elfman choose between his family and his guild.
* ShesGotLegs: And Mashima loves showing them off.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: She has been called "Seira" and "Sayla".
* TheStoic: She shows no expression, not even sadistic glee, as she forces Elfman to strangle his sister Lisanna.
** NotSoStoic: She becomes very serious when Elfman begs her to stop and claims he'll do anything asking him if he's willing to [[DealWithTheDevil sell his soul to her.]] Later, she's shown smiling while Elfman, as a demon, begins rampaging. Of course, considering [[DidTheyOrDidntThey what was strongly implied to have just happened]] with Kyouka, she could be smiling for an entirely different reason...
* SuperpowerLottery: Doesn't get much more broken than PeoplePuppets.
* TattooedCrook: She has markings on her forehead and shoulders, though they appear more to be runes of some kind, rather than tattoos.
* ThrowTheBookAtThem: Is shown doing this to Mirajane, with several floating books [[ZergRush all pelting her at once]]. It's a lot more effective than it sounds.
* WickedCultured: Not only is she a BadassBookworm, she constantly refers to everything going on around her as if it were the plot of one of her stories, even going so far as to as to comment on events as if she were critiquing a book.
-->"Ezel-san, stories have a proper sequence. This is the prologue... no... the preface, rather."
* {{Yandere}}: Wanting to kill Lisanna in front of Mirajane [[DisproportionateRetribution just because]] Elfman ''embarrassed'' her in front of Kyouka clinches it.
* ZettaiRyouiki: Type A.

* {{Badass}}: There's a reason he's one of the last Demon Gates left standing.

** BadassInANiceSuit: He appears to wear a shirt with tie underneath his robe.
** BadassLongRobe: Fitting for a BadassPreacher.
** BadassPreacher: His clothes, staff and his tendencies to speak in morbid religious phrases, make him a great example. It's no wonder he's recognized as [[RedBaron The Black Monk of Tartarus]].
* DemBones: He looks like a reanimated skeleton. In fact, Wendy wonders aloud if he's just wearing a mask.

* SuperSpeed: In his mist form, he can outpace Natsu, while simultaneously dodging spells cast by Juvia.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: He appears to be able to transform himself into some sort of black mist to evade attacks and travel at high speeds, which is very [[OnePiece Logia-like]].
* WarriorPoet: Everything he says sounds like a fancy, if morbid religious sermon.
* YouWillNotEvadeMe / YouShallNotPass: After Wendy and Lucy try escape from him using Happy's and Carla's Max Speed, he reappears in a corridor just in front of them. However, Gray foils his stand.

The medical technician of Tartarus, and a member of the 'Kyouka Squad.' She's the one in charge of [[ResurrectiveImmortality resurrecting Tartarus members when they are defeated]]. She's a hyperactive girl with [[LittleBitBeastly rabbit-like]] [[PlayboyBunny features]], and seems to be the PluckyComicRelief of Tartarus.
----
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Extremely flirtatious towards Jackal and Tempester. Much to [[HatesBeingTouched Jackal's annoyance]].
* CuteAndPsycho: Shows shades of this towards Mirajane, saying she's going to 'turn her into a caterpillar', unlike what she did with Minerva.
* CuteMonsterGirl: Honestly, the only thing demonic about her is the fact that she has bunny ears.
* DeathByIrony: [[spoiler:Jackal, the demon she revived and fangirled over, killed her simply because he was tired of listening to her talk.]]
* DoNotTauntCthulhu: Granted, she didn't know it would happen, but seriously? Taunting Mirajane, AKA, [[RedBaron The Demon of Fairy Tail!?]]
* DrivenByEnvy: Heavily implied to be why she wanted to ruin Mirajane's physical appearance, as well as why she wanted Jackal to blow up Lucy's breasts. Not only is she an InUniverse {{fangirl}} to Tartarus' male members, she ''hates'' females in general, especially ones that she knows are more physically attractive than her.
* ExplainingYourPowerToTheEnemy: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] by Seilah; if she had kept her mouth shut about the way Tartarus' ResurrectiveImmortality works, Mirajane might not have blown up their [[HealingVat Healing Vats]]. Might have been why Seilah didn't exactly try very hard to [[FriendlyFire avoid hitting her]] with her KamehameHadouken while she was in her OneWingedAngel form.
* {{Fangirl}}: InUniverse, towards the male members of Tartarus. Almost to the point of [[ThisLoserIsYou parody]].
* FurAndLoathing: A fluffy coat, complete with pom-poms on the front.
* HumanHummingbird: 'Human' being a term [[OurDemonsAreDifferent applied loosely]], of course.
* GenkiGirl: In stark contrast to the rest of Tartarus.
* LittleBitBeastly: [[PlayboyBunny Rabbit ears.]] That is all.
* MadScientist: She's the one who heals the other demons, as well as creates new ones.
* NoSenseOfPersonalSpace: How she managed to get away with hanging on Jackal of all people is anyone's guess.
* NotQuiteDead: She survived the explosion of Hell's Core.
** KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Jackal kills her by grabbing her head and blowing her up.]]
* OhCrap: She's scared shitless when her attempt to use Demon Particles on Mirajane only made her wake up from unconsciousness because she already possessed Demon Particles. She's also left catatonic when Seilah is defeated.
* PerkyFemaleMinion: Her {{fangirl}} tendencies wouldn't be out of place in any other guild if she weren't a CuteAndPsycho demon.
* PluckyComicRelief: Compared to the rest of [[KnightOfCerebus Tartarus]]? Yes.
* ProperTightsWithASkirt: Worn underneath a fluffy, white coat.
* SayItWithHearts: While fawning over Jackal and Tempester.
* SpinAttack: Her curse involves spinning incredibly fast, which allows her to do everything from attacking very quickly to defying gravity.
* SpinToDeflectStuff: Her curse also allows her to deflect Sagitarius' arrows with ease.
* {{Squee}}: Constantly, around Tartarus' guys.
* WeakButSkilled: Lamy herself usually leaves the fighting to the Nine Demon Gates, and rarely gets in on the action herself unless she absolutely has to. Despite this, she's a very skilled EvilGenius who is in charge of Tartarus' resurrection labs, called '[[IDontLikeTheSoundOfThatPlace Hell's Core]],' and is the one the other demons trust to patch them up if they lose a fight.

The ace and acting leader of Eisenwald. He is skilled at using Wind Magic to attack, defend, and trap opponents.

Post-TimeSkip, Erigor appears as a member of the Reborn Oración Seis under the name "Grim Reaper". In exchange for his memories of his entire life, he gains control over weather.

->Voiced by: KoichiTochika (JP), Jonathan Brooks (EN)
----
* ArcVillain: Of the Lullaby arc.
* BadassLongcoat: Wears one when he reappears in the anime, which is also the one that Jellal wears later on.
* BaldOfEvil: Post-TimeSkip.
* BlowYouAway.
** RazorWind
** ShockAndAwe: Post-TimeSkip, thanks to his newfound Storm Magic.
** MakingASplash: Post-TimeSkip, with his Storm Magic he can do this as well. It all ties into him controlling ''all'' forms of weather.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: As Grim Reaper.
* DoNotTouchTheFunnelCloud: The whole point of his Wind Wall spell is that the visible part is definitely ''not'' something you want to touch. His Storm Mail spell works under a similar principle, but as a [[SubvertedTrope subversion]] there's still a great deal of wind blowing around the funnel itself.
* ElementalRockPaperScissors: Holds this in Natsu's face when they fight. [[SubvertedTrope Backfires spectacularly]] [[ConvectionSchmonvection in the end]].
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: Memories of his TrueCompanions from Eisenwald are the first thing to stir when his brainwashing starts to fade. Even in his mental realm, Erigor pictures his old self standing besides the silhouettes of his Eisenwald guildmates.
* {{Flight}}: One of the few characters who can do so unaided by wings.
* ImprobableWeaponUser: Post TimeSkip, he decides to conclude his duel with Bickslow and Wendy by dropping a [[EverythingsBetterWithCows whole herd of cows on them.]]
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: He gives up his memories in exchange for power over the TimeSkip. As such, he doesn't remember anything about being Erigor of Eisenwald.
* MindControlEyes: As a member of the Reborn Oración Seis, his eyes are shown to be a dull, glassy gray. His personality is also much more subdued than in his earlier appearances.
* RedBaron: Earned the title "{{Shinigami}}" due to his only taking requests to kill people. Ironically, he looks more like TheGrimReaper. This incidentally becomes his codename when he joins the Reborn Oración Seis.
* ReviveKillsZombie: When Wendy realizes that the memories of his past are physically hurting him, she keeps on casting healing spells on him until he recovers all his memories, freeing him from Oración Seis' grasp.
* ScarfOfAsskicking: In his first appearance.
* SinisterScythe: Part of his death motif. After the TimeSkip, his scythe seems necessary for his Storm Magic.
* TattooedCrook
* TookALevelInBadass: After the TimeSkip he's become an official member of the Reborn Oración Seis, looks a lot more like the Grim Reaper, and can throw whole hurricanes on people with ease. Too bad he also loses his memory.
* WakeUpCallBoss: He was the first antagonist that Natsu couldn't just bash into a wall with raw determination.
* WalkingShirtlessScene
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: After his defeat, Lucy fears that Erigor will come back to take revenge. However, he's never seen and barely even mentioned again after that.
** The anime rectifies this. He reappears in the Nirvana arc as part of one of the many dark guilds controlled by Oración Seis, and has a rematch with Natsu. However, the drastic differences in their power are made apparent, and he's taken out in less than half an episode. He later appears after the TimeSkip as a full-blown member of the Reborn Oración Seis.
* WorthyOpponent: During his anime-only rematch with Natsu, he admits that what he'd really hoped for was to fight Natsu again and win.

[[folder: Succubus Eye]]
A Dark Guild that makes its appearance after the TimeSkip. Notable in that it has a role on the Taiyou village arc and that Minerva is one of its members. Also notable in that it is a subordinate guild to Tartarus.

!!Doriate

[[quoteright:250:'''Affiliation:''' Succubus Eye\\
'''Magic:''' [[FountainOfYouth Law of Regression.]]]]

The first member of Succubus Eye, with most of the details about him unknown. He is Minerva's superior, and he has the ability to make people regress back into children. Also, he's not human; he's actually a demon summoned from the Books of Zeref by Tartarus.
----
* AlwaysABiggerFish: How does he finally lose? That flying, one-eyed monster from before flies down and eats him.
* AttackBackfire: Due to the way [[ImaginationBasedSuperpower Maker Magic]] works, Doriate's power ended up being more helpful to Gray than harmful, in spite of weakening his power.
* BerserkButton: When Gray, despite being turned back into a child, is able to fight back and even talk down at him, Doriate gets so angry he loses focus on the Law of Regression and assumes his demon form to attack Gray.
* BrownNote: In his demon form, his [[FountainOfYouth Law of Regression]] can be used as a sound wave so that instead of only being able to affect the enemy in front of him, it was able to regress everybody in the Sun Village back to their childhood. The downside is that it doesn't discriminate between friend or foe, as seen when it hits his partner Minerva.
* CombatPragmatist: He turns his victims into children so that they'll be easier to deal with. He also doesn't waste any time casting it once an enemy is in sight.
* DeathByIrony: After wanting to [[ImAHumanitarian eat Gray]], he himself gets eaten by [[AlwaysABiggerFish a giant, flying monster]].
* DoesNotKnowHisOwnStrength: He can still use his magic while in his OneWingedAngel form, but he is no longer capable of aiming (or he just doesn't bother to do so anymore), causing everyone - including [[FriendlyFire Minerva]] and [[QuirkyMinibossSquad Sylph Labyrinth]] - to get hit with Law of Regression.
* FangsAreEvil: Even with his mouth shut, he has a lot of fangs jutting out.
* FountainOfYouth: His magic hits his victims with this. According to him, his magic actually affects the magic power of the victim, and their turning into a child is a secondary effect.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: Why was he subconsciously avoiding the ice around him? The ice was made via Devil Slayer magic, which would hit beings like him ForMassiveDamage.
* ImAHumanitarian: If his attempt to ''eat'' Gray is any indication.
* KilledOffForReal
* KryptoniteIsEverywhere: Bordering on TooDumbToLive, as the area he was fighting in was coated in ice that would severely damage him.
* NoBadassToHisValet: He's likely aware that Minerva is the former ace of Sabertooth, but that doesn't change the fact she is still a newbie in her current guild.
* OneWingedAngel: When he gets really angry he hulks out into a huge demon. On the bright side, he's too angry to keep up the Law of Regression in this state.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: He's a demon from the Books of Zeref.
* StatusBuff: Law of Regression's primary effect is to lower the opponent's abilities; the transformation into a child is a side effect.
* WouldHurtAChild: He definitely has no problem with beating up adults with the bodies of children. We've never seen him fight actual kids, but given his personality, he'd probably attack children like he would any other.
* WeakButSkilled: Subverted. Gray assumes he uses Law Of Regression to weaken his enemies as a means to make up for his somewhat average power, which seems to match up to how the fight was going. Then he reveals his true colors as a powerful demon.
