* LaserGuidedAmnesia: The first clue is that he doesn't remember anything about the Kelsinger Incident. [[spoiler:Or his sister]].
* LightTheWay: His element. It fits [[MessianicArchetype his personality rather well.]]

!!Soth
Sef's best friend, who was seduced by the dark powers offered by Shin.

* TheAtoner
* CastingAShadow
* DefeatEqualsFriendship
* [[spoiler:MarkOfTheBeast]]
* RushBoss: He buffs himself constantly during the fight with him. If he's not defeated quickly, he will become nearly invincible.

!!Trevor and Sick

The Kirgard Commandos. They have gone from horrible training that has made them very strong, but has also driven them mad. They quickly develop a hatred for Daniel.

* {{BFS}}: Trevor wields one. Cue "[[CompensatingForSomething compensating]]" jokes from Sick.

* ChronicBackstabbingDisorder: [[spoiler:Their insistence on being on whatever side Daniel is not on leads them to betray both Kirgard and Zelmony.]]
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}s

* GoldfishPoopGang: Initially.
* HopelessBossFight: [[spoiler:Frequently, as the Demon Commandos.]]
* {{Hypocrite}}: [[spoiler: They continually reference Daniel as a "traitor". ''They'' betrayed all 3 countries in the war by the time they kick it!]]

* OneHandedZweihander: [[spoiler:Demon Trevor]] wields his (technically [[VideoGame/KingdomOfLoathing three-handed]]) {{BFS}} in one hand.
* {{Parody}}: Trevor's insistence on carrying a sword that is ''far'' to large for him to adequately use (and even lampshaded as such) is a pretty blatant pisstake of JRPG heroes like [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Cloud Strife]], who wield impractically large swords. It ties into him being a villainous JokeCharacter, though. Later on [[spoiler:this gets turned right back around when he becomes a demon who ''can'' wield it in a ridiculously effective fashion]].
* PowerFist: [[spoiler:Demon Sick]] has one. [[IncendiaryExponent ON FIRE!]]
* RecurringBoss
* SeinfeldianConversation: Their dialogue tends to go off the rails.
* SoundtrackDissonance: The characters their theme was originally used for weren't quite this silly.

* TrainingFromHell: Apparently the reason for their... ''unique'' personalities.

He's an unrepentant asshole, never shares information that he ''damn well knows would help Daniel'', [[TheUnfettered has absolutely no restrictions when it comes to doing what he feels has to be done]], and basically has ''no'' redeeming qualities other than the fact that he just-so-happens to be on your side.
* CastingAShadow
* FigureItOutYourself: His main reaction to more or less everything.
* {{Jerkass}}
* ManipulativeBastard: He'd be a GuileHero, but he's really not that heroic. Anyway, this part of his personality becomes especially clear when, [[spoiler:he discovers that the most powerful demon soldiers are the ones with the most confidence. So, what does he do? ''He makes up a fake exorcism ritual that tricks Demon Trevor and Sick into believing that they will lose their power'']].
* '''OOCIsSeriousBusiness''': He actually starts to provide helpful information [[spoiler:once demons start to come into the picture]]. Daniel notes how odd it is for him to do so.
* PerpetualFrowner
* TheQuietOne
* TheScrappy: An in-universe example. He's such a complete arsehole that even ''[[AllLovingHero Daniel]]'' rages at him on more than a few occasions and he seems to be the only person in the army without any real friends, [[StoryAndGameplaySegregation relationship levels aside]].
** RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Also in-universe. After Nashal sheds some light that [[spoiler:''the'' Yan Angwa are a group that he's probably not part of]] and the man ''finally'' starts to communicate with the others by putting into motion his plan for [[spoiler:dealing with the demons]], Daniel seems a lot more tolerant of him. Although, as ''The Wanderer'' shows, they're still far from friends.
* SimpleStaff
* [[StealthMentor Stealth]] TricksterMentor: He combines the worst aspects of both... which is one of the reasons why Daniel gets so frustrated with him.
* SquishyWizard
* TheStoic
* TalkingTheMonsterToDeath: Almost literally. See "ManipulativeBastard" for the full details.
* TheUnreveal: If you defeat his [[BonusBoss Shadow]], [[spoiler:the real Yan Angwa convinces it not to give any information on their backstory.]]

The leader of the Highland rebellion.

* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking
* BadassScars
* DropTheHammer
* FriendlyEnemy: With Daniel. [[spoiler:He even joins Elysium shortly after Daniel leaves Zelmony.]]
* GeniusBruiser
* HeroAntagonist: The only reason he's a villain is that his rebellion is weakening Zelmony while it is at war.
* AnIcePerson
* LargeAndInCharge: He appears to be two meters tall.
* MeaningfulName: He's named Rock and he's an influential man in a mountainous region.
* MightyGlacier

!!Rorschach
A ninja who believes that Daniel killed his sister in Kelsinger Pass.

* BigDamnHeroes: Does this on multiple occasions.
* CutscenePowerToTheMax: When he joins, he takes out about a dozen soldiers at once. As a playable character, he's fast, but the rest of his stats are okay at best.
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: Subverted. He does join sometime after you defeat him, but it's seeing Ayara attempt a YouShallNotPass that makes him realize that Daniel is worth following.

* BadassInDistress: You have to rescue him from another ninja to recruit him.
* BunnyEarsLawyer: He's very laid back for a ninja.

* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have White Hair]]: Makes sense, considering who he is.

A mage seeking to revive the dead.
* CastingAShadow
* CripplingOverspecialization: He has awesome magic-related stats (including the highest magic stat in the game), but his other stats are all poor.
* {{Necromancer}}
* {{Plagiarism}}: As a twist on the "wise mage using ancient knowledge" trope, he's claiming the information from an ancient necromancy book as the product of his own research.

!!Derek
A skeleton who was raised from the dead.

* AustralianAccent: For some reason.
* BackFromTheDead
* BerserkButton: He is thoroughly not amused by Myst's habit of calling him "Dead Man #7."

* AnIcePerson
* CoolSword: Named after his childhood friend and (presumably) LoveInterest.
* DarkAndTroubledPast
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: He can't remember anything prior to joining the Brotherhood.
* LateCharacterSyndrome: Averted. He's one of the last characters you recruit, but his fighting power, coolness and the effort spent recruiting him are likely to net him a spot in your main party anyway.

!!Griever
A woman living in Blackwater who hates war.

* TheAtoner
* CripplingOverspecialization: Her unit takes massive penalties if she's leading anything but cavalry.

* BlackAndWhiteInsanity
* ChurchMilitant
* {{Deconstruction}}: He's your typical devout vampire hunter... and a ridiculous fanatic.
* TheFundamentalist: Well, kind of. While he won't bash the world's holy book over your head, he approaches his task of vampire hunting with a scary amount of fervour.
* GuestStarPartyMember: Can be permanently re-recruited in a late-game sidequest.

* LargeHam
* LightTheWay
* {{Parody}}: Of VideoGame/SuikodenII's Khan Marley.
* ScaryShinyGlasses
* SoLongAndThanksForAllTheGear: Temporarily, but it takes so long until you re-recruit him that the armour you left him with will have become completely useless. Oh, and he left just before a [[spoiler:non-existant]] climactic boss fight, so he's likely to "steal" good equipment.

!!Mike
A mercenary.

* FlatCharacter: Subverted. His interview makes him seem like a boring guy who doesn't have anything in his life beyond fighting. Outsider's interview, however, reveals that he ''does'' have a story (albeit one he won't tell). Specifically, he's a former miner that Outsider trained to defend himself during an uprising.

* CrutchCharacter: When he joins you, he's overlevelled and accordingly powerful, but once the others catch up with him, he will be awfully slow and inaccurate.
* DiscOneNuke: When you can first hire him, he has about a five-level lead on everyone else in the party.
* ParentalSubstitute: To Mike.

!!Reod
A conman operating out of Jargo.

* DefeatEqualsFriendship: You recruit him by exposing his act.
* LightningBruiser: A magical version.
* PlayingWithFire

* StreetPerformer: One who steals from his victim ''while'' performing magic tricks.

!!Shadfork
A martial artist who believes that size is the key to victory.

* {{Acrofatic}}: Subverted. He challenges you to a race, but is ''way'' too slow to ever win unless you [[ILetYouWin let him]].
* BareFistedMonk: He wields an upgradable gauntlet, but most of his attack power is determined by his strength.
* DefeatEqualsFriendship: Inverted. You have to lose to him in a race to recruit him, as he thinks it shows that you share his belief that speed is worthless.
* LightTheWay
* MightyGlacier
* TheRival: To Tong Wu.
* StoneWall

!!Shin
A mysterious being with control over the powers of darkness and an unsettling effect on those near him.

* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: In-universe. Nobody is quite sure just ''what'' Shin is, which leads to Sef seeing him as the local equivalent of {{Satan}} and Daniel seeing him as some sort of EldritchAbomination. The true answer is never revealed.
* BlackEyesOfEvil
* AnAxeToGrind [=/=] BladeOnAStick: His weapon appear to be some kind of halberd. It looks like a "bird on a stick" though.
* BlackEyesOfEvil
* CastingAShadow
* DarkIsEvil
* TheDarkSide: He's connected to it, somehow... Maybe it's better that we don't know the details.
* DealWithTheDevil: He is apparently capable of offering these to willing souls.
* DiabolusExMachina: There is no explanation, no information, or even a one-off bit of dialogue that explains what manner of creature Shin is. He simply exists to horrify everything around him.
* EvilIsDeathlyCold
* GlassCannon: In terms of physical defence but he's a surprisingly good magical tank.
* HumanoidAbomination: He ''technically'' looks like a human being. Specifically, a pale-skinned corpse. With BlackEyesOfEvil. He is most definitely '''''NOT''''' one, though.
* MageKiller: His stats lean towards this.
* NightmareFuel: In-universe, Meiko regards him as this. He's so utterly horrifying that she can't actually conduct her interview and just breaks down in a nervous panic.
* {{Satan}}: Sef's recruitment path very much portrays him as the equivalent in ''ExitFate'''s world, as he is an evil, corrupting force that tempts Soth to TheDarkSide with an allure of power. The fact that we get nothing denying that this is the case makes him all the worse.
* TheQuietOne: Don't expect much out of him other than "Hmm."
* UncannyValley: In-universe, Meiko regards him as looking too inhuman to hold a proper interview with. This is one of the many reasons why she just breaks down in front of him.
** His character sprite also seems to have been designed with this in mind, as his attack motion is very stiff and rigid. Almost as if he's not comfortable in a human body...

!!Sormaus
A reclusive warrior training in a bizarre style.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}

!!Pereious
The leader of the mountain people's rebellion in northern Kirgard.

* BadassBeard
* BloodKnight
* DefeatMeansFriendship: [[spoiler:Subverted. Daniel tries to invoke this regarding him after it worked out numerous times, but he refuses.]]
** [[spoiler: DownplayedTrope, anyway. It's clear he bears no wishes to be a friend of Daniel, but he seems downright pleasant to him when visited in person and doesn't mind him returning to visit. they may not be friends or allies, but they are on no bad grounds.]]

[[folder:The Hand of Fate ('''MASSIVE SPOILERS''')]]
!!The Hand of Fate
A demon with the power to manipulate the fate of its host. Siegfried summoned the Hand into his unborn son, Daniel, killing his wife, Sigrid, in the process, so Daniel would have the power to conquer the world and put an end to war.

* AGodAmI: A variation. It already possesses godlike power. Most of its character arc, if one can call it that, is spent trying to figure out what it plans to ''do'' with it.
* BecauseDestinySaysSo [=/=] ImmuneToFate [=/=] ScrewDestiny: One of the perks of being possessed by the Hand is that it effectively allows you to reshape fate however you wish. However, even this isn't enough to save it from a beatdown at Daniel's hands during the FinalBoss battle.
* BlankWhiteEyes: When possessing Daniel.
* BlueAndOrangeMorality: Being a demonic spirit, if the Hand has any kind of morality then it is completely and utterly unknowable to mortal minds.
* EldritchAbomination: Like all spirits, the Hand's true nature is unknown. While nobody knows whether said spirits are the souls of the dead, demonic entities or something else entirely. However, the Hand takes the cake for being something so great and terrible it ''surpasses'' most of, if not all, the spirits in terms of its power.
* ElementalPowers: Its main one is LightTheWay. However, when it combines with Brunhild and Sigrid's spirit, it gains the ability to summon "Fingers" of each element.
* EnemyWithin
** EnemyWithout: It possesses Brunhild during the final battle, turning it into this.
* FinalBoss
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Hand" which is actually "The One Who Is Torn Apart" from ''VideoGame/{{Xenogears}}.
* LightIsNotGood
* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: Subjectively speaking, given how high the fantasy is in ''Exit Fate''. Siegfried isn't sure whether the Hand is actually a higher power or whether it's just a very powerful demonic spirit.
* NightmareFace: When possessing Daniel... and Brunhild.
* SlasherSmile
* StealthPun: During the final battle, the Hand of Fate is accompanied by five elemental monsters called "Fingers". *[[IncrediblyLamePun Groan]]*.
* SplitPersonality: Manifests as this in Daniel.
* TakeOverTheWorld: The Hand's goal is to bring the world under a single, united order... specifically, its own. However, since this was originally Siegfried's plan, it isn't clear whether the Hand is just fulfilling the terms of their contract or whether it's pursuing its own agenda.
* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans: It answered Siegfried's call to create a world without war by possessing Daniel and leading him to subtly take over Kirgard, Zelmony and finally Almega. Once Daniel casts him out, it possesses Brunhild in order to do the exact same thing on a global scale.
