!The Changemen
[[folder:Hiryu Tsurugi/Change Dragon]]
!!Hiryū Tsurugi/[[red:Change Dragon]] | [-Actor: Haruki Hamada-]
[[quoteright:242:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/changedragon_3018.jpg]]
The leader of the team. A star baseball pitcher with the trademark technique ''Dragon Ball'' (not [[Franchise/DragonBall THAT]]. Or [[VideoGame/{{Worms}} that]].). He tends to get emotionally invested in cases he's involved.

* ChickMagnet: Despite not even trying, he has the most girls to link with. Mostly with Nana, but he's also [[ShipTease teased]] with Sayaka, and later develops links with [[spoiler:Shiima after her HeelFaceTurn]].
** There's also character-of-the-day Ira, an alien childhood friend of his played by Yoko Nakamura (who would go on to play [[Series/ChoushinseiFlashman Yellow Flash]] the following year).
* {{Determinator}}: Big time! He even [[spoiler:broke chains used to restrict him by Ahames, with pure determination]].
* DynamicEntry: DRAGON KICK!
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Love to give these (generally preceded by a punch) to both allies ''and'' enemies.
* HotBlooded: Can be very passionate about their missions. On the other hand, he has a tendency to [[{{Hypocrite}} criticize his teamates when they do the same]]. Hayate even lampshades it.
* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: Has the Dragon Ball, Dragon Kick, as well the most link with the aliens.
* TheLeader: Of the Changeman.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: His motif is the Dragon, notably a western winged one instead of an eastern one.
* ShipTease: With Sayaka in Episode 19, where he's the only one to have complete faith in her inventing ability and stays with her to help her test her anti-gravity device. Also with Shima and (teenager) Nana.
* ShockAndAwe: ''Dragon Thunder''
* StandardizedLeader: He's pretty basic as Sentai leaders go.
* TheStoic: Played with. He's prone to goofing around with his friends when he's not on duty, but he's generally the most serious about a mission.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Shou Hayate/Change Griffon]]
!!Shō Hayate/Change Griffon | [-Actor: Kazuoki Takahashi-]
[[quoteright:242:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/changegriffon_5540.jpg]]
The sub-leader of the team, as well as HandsomeLech, whose trademark style is to comb his hair, sometimes ''in the middle of battle''. At first joining the army just to get the girls, he develops from it.

* ButtMonkey: Is usually the butt-end of light-hearted mistreatment.
* CasanovaWannabe: Many of his focus episodes are about him trying to woo a girl and failing.
* HandsomeLech: And how. He even originally joined the army to get more women.
* HotBlooded: Not as much as Tsurugi, but he have that bad sometimes.
* TheLancer: He's the team second-in-command, complete with a cool and cocky personality to contrast Tsurugi's passion and courageousness.
* MagmaMan: ''Griffon Magma Galaxy''
* OurGryphonsAreDifferent: Griffons are his motif.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Yuma Ozora/Change Pegasus]]
!!Yūma Ōzora/[[blue:Change Pegasus]] | [-Actor: Shiro Izumi-]
[[quoteright:243:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/changepegasus_6739.jpg]]
Probably the youngest of the team as well as a weapon expert. Is pretty good at handling children and animals, but has the most fragile heart, causing him to get a mental breakdown at one point. [[DreadfulMusician Is a horrid singer]].

* DreadfulMusician: Ergh... To be fair, it helps against a MonsterOfTheWeek, though.
* TheHeart: He's the most youthful of the team, is a FriendToAllChildren and is usually the first to form bonds with the lifeforms the team encounters.
* HeroicBSOD: At one point when they lost their power, he thought he got called by Earth Power, despite his friends convincing him otherwise. Turns out they're ''right'', proving that he was having a mental breakdown.
* KidAppealCharacter: Alongside his ability to get along well with [[FriendToAllChildren kids]] and [[FriendToAllLivingThings animals]], he's the most fragile mentally, falling to HeroicBSOD at one point.
* ManlyManAndSensitiveGuy: The Sensitive Guy to Shou's Manly Man.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Feminine Boy to Mai's Masculine Girl.
* OddNameOut: Unlike the other Changemen and Ibuki, he does not have TwoFirstNames.
* OneOfTheKids: Not ''too'' childish, but yeah.
* {{Pegasus}}: His Changeman motif.
* ReverseGrip: How he holds his Change Sword.
* ShockAndAwe: ''Pegasus Inazuma Spark''
* TheSmartGuy: Despite his fragile personality, he is a weapon expert.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Sayaka Nagisa/Change Mermaid]]
!!Sayaka Nagisa/[[gray:Change Mermaid]] | [-Actress: Hiroko Nishimoto-]
[[quoteright:241:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/changemermaid_6413.jpg]]
The brain of the Earth Defense Force and a stickler for etiquette and manners, pretty much a 'Miss Perfect'. She's a motherly type and like Tsurugi, tends to get involved emotionally in her missions. Usually teams up with Mai.

* MakingASplash: ''Mermaid Typhoon Wave'' and ''Mermaid Big Wave''.
* MsFanservice: Thanks to the generous number of panty shots.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: Her motif is the mermaid.
* ShipTease: She and Tsurugi get along rather well, leading the rest of the team to speculate and tease them about being a couple. It's especially hinted at in Episode 19, where Tsurugi is the only person to have complete faith in her after her invention initially failed, even staying with her to help her continue test it.
* TheSmartGuy: Is a genius inventor and computer programmer, as well as the team strategist. Not only is she the obvious 'brain', but she keeps her emotions more in check.
* TheStrategist: She's often the one to come up with the way to defeat the Space Beast.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Girly Girl to Mai's Tomboy.
* WaterIsWomanly: A motherly, polite young woman with water moves and a mermaid motif. She's contrasted as the GirlyGirl to the fire-using Mai's {{Tomboy}}.
* WoundedGazelleGambit: Only appearing once, but she did sucker Mai once by pretending to cry.
* WrenchWench: She's the team inventor and often supplies her teammates with new gadgets.
* YamatoNadeshiko / ProperLady: Etiquette, motherly, kind, is said to be a good mother (she posed as a mother in Episode 12 and did such a good job of it that even the enemies were fooled).
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Mai Tsubasa/Change Phoenix]]
!!Mai Tsubasa/[[pink:Change Phoenix]] | [-Actress: Mai Ooishi-]
[[quoteright:243:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/changephoenix_5942.jpg]]
Tomboyish, light-hearted officer, who tends to get underestimated due to her sex. She's best friends with Sayaka even though sometimes her "prim and proper" feel kinda gets on her nerves.

* BadassBiker: While Tsurugi is the one who does his patrols on bike, she fits the mold better. See Episode 15 for proof.
* TheBigGuy: She's the tomboyish ActionGirl of the team and has impressive physical strength.
* BoyishShortHair: Has short hair and is a tomboy.
* MasculineGirlFeminineBoy: Masculine Girl to Yūma's Feminine Boy.
* MasterOfDisguise: Continuing in the vein of [[Series/HimitsuSentaiGorenger Peggy]], [[Series/DenshiSentaiDenziman Akira]] and [[Series/DaiSentaiGoggleFive Miki]], Mai has a whole episode dedicated to this.
* ThePhoenix: Her motif as a Changeman.
* PinkMeansFeminine: ''Averted''. Mai is a proud tomboy and much more boyish than her fellow Changeman Sayaka.
* PlayingWithFire: ''Phoenix Fire'' (''Bomber'')
* ShortTank: Her signature hairdo.
* TomboyAndGirlyGirl: Tomboy to Sayaka's Girly Girl.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: While she is a tomboy, her color is [[PinkMeansFeminine pink]].
[[/folder]]

!Allies
[[folder:Commander Ibuki]]
!!Commander Yui Ibuki | [-Actor: Jun Fujimaki-]
* BigGood: He's the head of the Dengeki task force and the main benefactor of the Changemen.
* DrillSergeantNasty: He's introduced as this, running a training exercise and harassing the recruits in his helicopter while shooting live ammo and GRENADES at them to keep them moving without explaining his goal (which is to push enough people hard enough to awaken the Earth Force). Notably this almost backfires on him badly as him running them ragged with no explaination and justification makes the entire squad, including the eventual Changemen, quit as they don't see the point in taking this abuse for no justified reason. It's only lucky that the Gozma attack at that moment and force the issue.
* GenderBlenderName: Yui and Ibuki are most commonly used for female names. This commander on the other hand is a very hardass and manly commander.
* HumanAlien: [[spoiler:He's actually an alien in disguise as a human.]]
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: He may be a hardass and imposes some pretty tough training measures, but he truly cares for the Changemen and wants to best prep them to fight the Gozma.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Nana]]
!!Nana | [-Actress: Miyako Hayakawa (child), Tokie Shibata (teen)-]
* BizarreAlienBiology: Rigellans have short childhoods and the aura they emit while transitioning to adult is sought by those seeking to increase their power.
* ChildProdigy: When first introduced.
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: In her first appearances, she was a child. Once she emits her Rigel Aura, she becomes a teenager and stays that way for the rest of the series.
* RapidAging: Upon emitting her Rigel Aura.
* TeenGenius: After transitioning to her adult form.
[[/folder]]

!Great Star League Gozma
[[folder:In General]]
A league of aliens who have conquered numerous planets across the cosmos, setting their sights on Earth next.
----
* ContrastingSequelAntagonist: The Gear Empire from ''Series/ChoudenshiBioman'' were a terrestrial-based society of robots, while the Gozma are a league of various extra-terrestrials from space. The Gear also didn't control much territory outside of their home base, while the Gozma already have numerous planets in their fold before coming to Earth.
* TheEmpire: They've conquered and subjugated many planets before coming to Earth.
* EvilWillFail: Keeping your subordinates in line through fear of their lives and their loved ones is not an efficient way to ensure loyalty, and most of the Gozma generals end up defecting by the end.
* PunchClockVillains: Pretty much everyone in Gozma is only serving Bazoo to keep him from destroying their home planets and guard their loved ones.
* TrappedInVillainy: Defying Bazoo is punishable by death, and most likely the destruction of your home planet as well.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Star King Bazoo]]
!!Star King Bazoo | [-Voice actor: Creator/SeizoKato-]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bazeu_i_5.jpg]]
The ruler of the Gozma.
----
* BadBoss: Bazoo keeps his subordinates in line by not only threatening them but their home planets, and is perfectly fine with sacrificing them or forcibly mutating them into Space Beasts. Add [[AbusiveParents bad parenting to the list]], since he didn't think twice about disposing of his adoptive son the moment he discovered Sayaka was Ikarus' intented bride.
* BigBad: The ruler of the Gozma and the one commanding their invasions of planets.
* DarkLordOnLifeSupport: He appears as an immobile blue torso hooked up to machinery. [[spoiler:Subverted, his appearance is actually an illusion created by his true PlanetEater form.]]
* EarthShatteringKaboom: [[spoiler:How he goes out. The Changemen in Change Robo pierce his core and fly away as Gozma Star explodes.]]
* EldritchAbomination: [[spoiler:He's actually a planet-like entity with vast supernatural powers that devours other planets, with his initial form being an illusion.]]
* EldritchLocation: [[spoiler:His true form, the desolate Gozma Star. It's not initially apparent until the Gozma actually make their way to his core, at which point his truly BizarreAlienBiology is revealed.]]
* {{Expy}}: [[spoiler:Combines elements of Ego the Living Planet with Galactus, being a planet that devours other planets.]]
* GalacticConqueror: Has invaded numerous planets in the past and has his sights set on Earth next. [[spoiler:{{Subverted}}, Bazoo doesn't conquer planets, he ''eats'' them. The only reason he leaves some planets alive is so he can hold them for ransom to get their inhabitants to serve in his army.]]
* GeniusLoci: [[spoiler:His true form is the planet the Changeman thought he was on, Gozma Star.]]
* ImAHumanitarian: [[spoiler:A PlanetEater who IS a planet.]]
* KnightOfCerebus: While Changeman was already DarkerAndEdgier from the beginning, in terms of the Sentai franchise as a whole Bazoo is much more remorseless, cruel and ruthless than most of the villains that came before him.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: His method of having Giluke and Ahames compete against each other for the right to lead his invasion force. Justified since the two tried to oppose him together when he attacked their planets.
* MeaningfulName: "Bazoo" means mouth, a clue to [[spoiler:his true nature as a PlanetEater.]]
* PlanetEater: [[spoiler:Devours planets for sustenance.]]
* PragmaticVillainy: While he is an incredibly brutal BadBoss who frequently sacrifices his own men, Bazoo is willing to spare some of his more important generals and even forgive them for plotting against him if they prove themselves useful enough, as shown with Ahames and Giluke.
* ShadowDictator: While Bazoo appears frequently, it's always as an apparition and he never appears in person. [[spoiler:That's because his supposed appearance is an illusion and not his true form at all.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: While Bazoo is there from the very beginning, his true nature and motives are a ''massive'' plot twist.
* YouHaveFailedMe: After Giluke fails to harness the power of the Rigel Aura and is defeated badly by the Changemen, Bazoo disposes of him by having him thrown into a black hole.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:General Giluke]]
!!General Guiluke | [-Actor: Shohei Yamamoto-]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/giluke.jpg]]
The captain of the Gozmard flagship and commander of the Earth invasion, originating from Planet Giras.
----
* BadBoss: While not as bad as Bazoo, Giluke still isn't above sacrificing his subordinates and forcing them to become Space Beasts.
* CameBackStrong: After being seemingly disposed of by Bazoo, he returns as a ghost before fully resurrecting himself as the powerful Super Giluke.
* CameBackWrong: Hinted to be the case as Ghost Giluke, as he lacks any of the humane qualities Giluke had before.
* TheDogBitesBack: He was betrayed by Ahames a number of times before she finally usurps his place as Gozma's commander. This even results in his death. However, he CameBackStrong, becomes Super Giluke absorbing a second wind from the Aura Rigel and...let's say Bazoo is more sympathetic to him after that.
* TheDragon: The lead commander of the Gozma invasion and the one in charge of the other generals taking part in it. He's replaced by Ahames, but eventually comes back to his previous occupation.
** CoDragons: Once Ahames arrives on the Gozmard, Giluke and her end up on equal footing as Bazoo's top two henchmen.
* TheHeavy: While Bazoo floats around in space and barks orders and threats, it's Giluke most of the time who supervises the EvilPlan and the deployment of the Space Beast.
* MotiveDecay: [[spoiler:Giluke starts off the series something of AFatherToHisMen who's only serving Bazoo so his planet can be restored. But after returning from the black hole Bazoo banished him to, Giluke discards his redeeming qualilties and becomes every bit as bad as Bazoo, as he wilfully sacrifices his own subordinates and does whatever it takes to conquer Earth.]]
* NotQuiteDead: After being beaten by the Changeman and disposed of by Bazoo, Giluke manages to survive by fusing with a Space Beast in a space graveyard to become Ghost Giluke.
* OneWingedAngel: As a final effort to defeat the Changemen and conquer Earth, Giluke mutates himself into the Space Beast Girath.
* PreFinalBoss: He's the opponent the Changemen have to face in the penultimate episode, before they can confront Bazoo himself.
* SixthRanger: As Super Giluke.
* TheStarscream: In the past he and Ahames plotted to overthrow Bazoo, but their attempt failed. He becomes fiercely loyal to Bazoo after he becomes Super Giluke.
* VillainousBreakdown: When he loses his chance to asborb Nana's Rigel Aura, attacking the Changeman in a failed attempt to earn Bazoo's forgiveness for failing to acquire it as his last chance.

[[folder:Adjutant Booba]]
!!Adjutant Booba | [-Actor: Yoshinori Okamoto-]
[[quoteright:250:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1.jpg]]
A former space pirate serving as one of Giluke's top two subordinates.
----
* BerserkButton: Harming any members of his crew is one for him. When Jill dies because of Gozma, he becomes so outraged he actually fights Giluke before Bazoo breaks them up.
* TheBrute: He's the main muscle of the Gozma.
* DefectorFromDecadence: When [[spoiler:Bazoo and Giluke begin using their own subordinates to create Space Beasts, Booba defects and helps save Shiima from being sacrificed for one of their schemes.]]
* DyingMomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler:Dies fighting his rival in a duel to the death after having saved the one living person he still cared about from Gozma's clutches. [[AGoodWayToDie He wouldn't have it any other way.]]]]
* EvenEvilHasStandards: He gradually abhors the BadBoss tactics of Bazoo and Giluke. [[spoiler:After they concoct a scheme that involves sacrificing Shiima, Booba finally has enough and defects to help save her.]]
* EvenEvilHasLovedOnes: He's AFatherToHisMen in his own space pirate crew, dearly loved the female space pirate Jill, his former partner, and also cares for his fellow lieutenant Shiima.
* GeniusBruiser: While he is TheBrute, Booba is absolutely NOT DumbMuscle and displays a good sense of cunning and quick tactics in battle.
* NobleDemon: Played with. While he is a former space pirate not above playing dirty and an officer of a tyrannical galactic army, Booba is one of the most moral and honorable members of the Gozma.
* NoPlaceForMeThere: Somewhat. [[spoiler:After saving Shiima, with no place to return to and all of his allies dead, Booba opts for a proper death in combat against his old rival Change Dragon.]]
* TheRival: Ends up developing a rivalry with Tsurugi.
* SpacePirate: Used to be one, before being forced to serve Bazoo. It's later shown he regrets having to leave the life.

[[folder:Prince Icarus]]
!!Prince Icarus | [-Actor: Kenji Fukuda-]
[[quoteright:1000:https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/icarus_9.png]] Prince of the Gozma. As a baby, when Icarus' home planet of Ikarus was on the cusp of being destroyed by a natural disaster, his mother, the Queen, sent him away on board a capsule in order to save his life. He was found by Bazoo who adopted him as his son, and made him the Prince.
----
* ConqueringAlienPrince: Prince Icarus has conquered many planets for Baziu by the time the story starts.
* {{Expy}}: He is possibly one of Sincline from ''Anime/BeastKingGoLion'' (which was released four years earlier) as they are both monstrous humanoid {{Conquering Alien Prince}}s that falls in love with one of the heroes and want to make her their wife. Unlike Sincline, however, he ends up turning against his father to protect the woman he fell in love with and dies redeeming himself.
* InterspeciesRomance: He falls in love with Sayaka Nagisa and kidnaps her during a battle to make her his wife.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: He turns against Gozma and is killed by Bazoo for it.
* SacrificialLamb: His death at Bazoo's hands help to establish just how truly cruel the Emperor is.
* WingedHumanoid: He has two, red, dragon-like wings, which is probably due to him being from Planet Ikarus.

* FallenPrincess: Was actually the princess of the planet Amanga before being forced to serve as one of the Gozma generals.

* KickChick: In close combat, many of her moves involves kicks.

* AxCrazy: She goes completely ''psychotic'' during her final attack on the EDF base.
* CoDragons: With Giluke later on, both serving as Bazoo's main lead henchmen.
* DespairEventHorizon: Learning that [[spoiler:Bazoo likely destroyed her home planet of Amazo long ago]] absolutely sends her over the edge.
* GodSaveUsFromTheQueen: She was originally queen of planet Amazo, and is also an incredibly formidable warrior.
* LightIsNotGood: She has a generally white color scheme, as well as bright silver battle armor after absorbing the Rigel aura, and is one of the most merciless and cruel generals of the Gozma.
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:Being turned into a Space Beast and finding out the AwfulTruth about her home planet sends her into complete AxCrazy territory.]]
* SixthRanger: Joins the Gozma forces a little below halfway through, before graduating to TheDragon. [[spoiler:Giluke becomes the sixth ranger after upgrading himself into Super Giluke]].
* VillainousBreakdown: Episode 53 is a long one for her. [[spoiler:After being mutated into a Space Beast, Ahames manages to split from her transformation through sheer {{Ax Crazy}}ness and, upon realizing Bazoo likely destroyed Amazo long ago, devolves into delusional ranting for Bazoo to restore Amazo before dying in the destruction of the EDF base.]]
