The main character of the story. Aoba lives a peaceful life in the East part of Midorijima, working part-time at a junk shop called ''Heibon'' and living with his Granny. He possesses a mysterious power that allows him to [[CompellingVoice convince others to do what he wants with his voice.]] One day, he receives a message on his Coil with the subject title “Please save me”. After accidentally downloading the file attached to the message, he discovers that the file is a game called 'Silent Oath', where he has to rescue a princess. The game ends abruptly, but leaves Aoba with an ominous feeling. His Allmate is Ren.

* ADateWithRosiePalms: [[spoiler:In Virus/Trip's ending, Aoba is regularly forced to "make a show" for them.]]
* ArousedByTheirVoice: Invoked in-universe. Aoba can [[CompellingVoice get people to do what he wants]] by dropping his voice to a certain tenor.
* [[spoiler:ArtificialHuman]]
* {{Badass}}: Can be this in some routes.
* [[spoiler: BadPowersGoodPeople: Aoba's Scrap can permanently destroy other people's minds if abused (and he ''does'' unintentionally do this to Mizuki in the first part of the game) or reduce them to mindless puppets, but he in no way wants to destroy or hurt anyone and ends up using his power to destroy only the mental demons harming his love interest in most routes. Further confirmed in Ren's route, where Aoba is specifically referred to as a "child of destruction" who can destroy the world and then rebuild a better world in its place.]]
** [[spoiler: However, his alternate, Sly Blue, wasn't nice at all.]]
* BewareTheNiceOnes: One of the nicest guys in the cast, but holds a dangerous power that can break minds and an [[SuperPoweredEvilSide alternate personality]] who won't hesitate to use it for cruel reasons, particularly in the bad endings.
* BigDamnHeroes: In Ren's route, [[spoiler: Aoba is about to pass out from being beaten up by Virus and Trip, and his friends all burst into the scene to rescue him. Unless you are aiming for the bad ending, that is]].
* {{Bishounen}}
* BrokenBird: In Clear's and Virus/Trip bad ending. In the first one, [[spoiler: it is because Aoba was being experimented on by Toue and then had his limbs, eyes and vocal chords removed]] and in the second [[spoiler: he is abducted and used as a SexSlave for Trip and Virus whenever they please.]]
* CompellingVoice: Has this due to his 'Scrap' ability. [[spoiler: Overusing this causes Aoba's [[SuperPoweredEvilSide alternate personality]] to take over.]]
* [[spoiler: DesignerBabies: Aoba and Sei were genetically engineered by Toue.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Can act as this very often, mostly when exasperated by the antics of the other characters.
* DualityMotif: While both of Aoba's eyes are the same, he has noticeable ''central'' heterochromia; his eyes are sage green around the outside and brown closer to the pupil. Nine [[LampshadeHanging spells out the meaning of it]] upon meeting Aoba for the first time.
--> '''Nine:''' "How mysterious... there are two colors mixed in your eyes. You don't know which is the right one, so you won't pick. You're at a standstill, locked away in your own shell... or something like that."
* DudeLooksLikeALady: Koujaku thought Aoba was a girl when they were younger. Other characters don't mistake Aoba for a girl, but his fair skin and long hair are commented on several times.
* FateWorseThanDeath: Oh boy, where to start? In [[spoiler: Noiz and Ren's]] endings Aoba is left stuck in their broken minds, [[spoiler: where he is either subjected to being eaten alive or to be left in a void where mere touch causes lacerations and intense bleeding]]. In [[spoiler: Clear's and Virus/Trip ending, Aoba is abducted, imprisoned and turned into a SexSlave. To make matters worse, Clear removes Aoba's limbs, eyes and vocal chords while Virus and Trip love to use their Allmates to torment Aoba]].
* HairDecorations: Gets a pair of feather hair ornaments as a present from Mink at the end of Mink's route in Re:Connect.
* [[spoiler: HappilyAdopted: By Nine and Haruka.]]
* HeroicBSOD: [[spoiler: After failing Scrap in Koujaku bad end, which cause the "other Aoba" to surface and permanently take control.]]
* HatesBeingTouched: Feels pain whenever people touch his hair, not to mention when it's cut. This is why Aoba keeps his hair long. [[spoiler: It vanishes after Toue is defeated and Aoba even lets Koujaku cut his hair]].
* IHaveYouNowMyPretty: In Clear and Virus/Trip bad end.
* ItsAllMyFault: Every time he fails scrap or put people in trouble.
* IWillWaitForYou: [[spoiler:In Aoba's scenario of ''RE:connect'', he, along with Tae, are still waiting for his adopted parents to return home.]]
* [[spoiler:LaserGuidedAmnesia: Due to an accident in his teenage years when he was playing Rhyme, he was knocked unconscious and lost his memories.]]
* [[spoiler: LockedIntoStrangeness: His hair turns permanently white in Koujaku's bad ending (although he already had an odd hair colour in the first place).]]
* LongHairedPrettyBoy: Though his long hair is justified since having it cut causes him physical pain. [[spoiler: In Koujaku's good end, Aoba allowed Koujaku to cut his hair since the pain in his hair completely disappeared after Toue is defeated.]]
* LoveMartyr
* LuminescentBlush: Gets this when Noiz kisses him in the anime.
* MrFanservice
* NotAMorningPerson: Koujaku relentlessly teases him about how difficult it is to wake him up in the morning.
* OnlySaneMan: At times, aside from Ren, Aoba is the only voice of reason in his little group.
* [[spoiler: PhlebotinumRebel: Aoba was genetically engineered by Toue and this is why he has his power in the first place. Despite that fact, he does all he can to stop Toue's plans.]]
* PowerOfLove: Uses this to help his love interests overcome their problems in their routes.
** His love interests also help him fend off a hostile takeover from his SuperPoweredEvilSide with their support near the end of each route.
* RapeAsDrama: In some of the bad endings [[spoiler: and twice during Mink's route]].
* [[spoiler: {{Robosexual}}: If Aoba pursues Clear.]]
* [[spoiler: SelfCest: Aoba has sex with Ren in his mind. After Sei gives Ren his body, this is upgraded to TwinCest.]]
* SexSlave: [[spoiler: Made into one by Clear and Virus/Trip in their bad end.]]
* SplitPersonality: [[spoiler: Aoba has two. There's his SuperPoweredEvilSide, who comes out whenever Aoba is in danger, and Ren, who is supposed to act as a mediator between Aoba and his evil side.]]
* [[spoiler: SplitPersonalityMerge: Accomplished in Ren's route, when Aoba accepts his other self.]]
* [[spoiler: SuperpoweredEvilSide: The 'other Aoba' nags at Aoba whether he faces a trigger, the main one being when he uses Scrap.]]
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: His eyes turn into this whenever he uses Scrap.
* TheHeart
* [[spoiler:TraumaInducedAmnesia]]
* {{Uke}}: He's the bottom in every single relationship, much to his annoyance.
* [[spoiler: WhiteHairBlackHeart: Becomes this in Koujaku's bad ending.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair

-->Voiced by: Okino Yasuhiro aka Creator/HirokiTakahashi
[[caption-width-right:317:Click [[labelnote:here]][[/labelnote]] to see Koujaku as he appears in Scrap]]
Aoba's [[ChildhoodFriend childhood friend]] and errant hairdresser. He doesn't actually own a shop; rather, he sets up and cuts hair in random places. He's quite [[TheCharmer popular with the ladies]] and tends to have one or two hanging off of him at any given time. Despite this, he tends to put Aoba's needs first, rushing to aid Aoba whenever he needs help. He also leads a gang in the ''Benishigure'' district, [[NeighbourhoodFriendlyGangsters who do their best to help the residents out.]] His Allmate is Beni.

* AbsoluteCleavage: A rare male example.
* AbusiveParents: It's revealed in the Drama CD, [[spoiler:his father beats his mother often to the point it drives her into depression when he decides to use Koujaku as the heir for the family. And when he tried to stand up for her once, he got punched.]]
* TheAtoner: [[spoiler: For murdering his family]].
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking
* {{Badass}}
* {{Bishonen}}
* BiTheWay: He's slept with quite a few women and has a lot of female fans, but he can enter a relationship with Aoba in his route.
* TheCharmer: Has a lot of female fans.
* ChildhoodFriends: With Aoba. They didn't spend all of their childhood together, but they've known each other for a long time.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass: Inverted, he's {{Badass}} on the outside but when alone with Aoba he can be {{Adorkable}}, so he's more of a Crouching Badass, Hidden Moron.
* [[spoiler:DeathSeeker: Upon realizing that Ryuuhou was in Platinum Jail, Koujaku immediately becomes this: he confesses when Aoba uses Scrap on him that he was planning to kill Ryuuhou and then himself in repentance for what he did.]]
* {{Expy}}: Really looks uncannily like a young [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyX Auron.]]
* [[FirstGirlWins First Guy Wins]]: If he's the love interest.
* HairDecorations: Wears a red hair pin in his ponytail.
* HotBlooded
* IfItsYouItsOkay: In his good ending, towards Aoba.
* LadykillerInLove: In his route. Koujaku doesn't actively pursue the ladies, but he does sleep around with many different women. He stops this after he falls in love with Aoba.
* [[spoiler: LockedIntoStrangeness: His hair turns red after he loses his mind in the bad ending of his route.]]
* [[spoiler: MarkOfTheBeast: His tattoos.]]
* MrFanservice
** FemaleGaze: [[ He has an unused halfbody sprite where he is completely naked, you heard that right.]]
* NeighbourhoodFriendlyGangsters: Koujaku's gang help the residents of their controlled areas and are quite popular.
* {{Nosebleed}}: Midway through his and Aoba's first time together, much to his embarrassment and to Aoba's amusement.
* PeekABangs
* RealMenWearPink
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Averted for the most part. Koujaku is normally a fairly easy-going guy, although he can have a [[HotBlooded short temper]] when dealing with certain people. [[spoiler:Played straight in his bad ending.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: Red to Noiz's Blue
* RelationshipUpgrade: From ChildhoodFriend to boyfriend in his good ending.
* {{Sarashi}}
* [[spoiler: SuperpoweredEvilSide: Koujaku's tattoos cause him to go into an [[UnstoppableRage uncontrollable rage]] in the bad ending, reducing his mind to a bestial state. This is also what caused the death of his family when Koujaku was younger.]]
* [[spoiler: TattooedCrook: While Koujaku isn't a crook, he was the heir to a yakuza family and he does lead a gang. He's also sporting tattoos on his face and all over his back.]]
* UndyingLoyalty: Towards Aoba.
* UnstoppableRage: When faced with one of his [[BerserkButton Berserk Buttons]], he slips into this, which causes him to turn more and more berserk.
* [[ViolentlyProtectiveGirlfriend Violent Protective Boyfriend]]: Reacts violently to threats directed towards Aoba.
* WalkingShirtlessScene
* [[spoiler: {{Yakuza}}: Koujaku was the heir to a yakuza family.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair

-->Voiced by: Creator/SatoshiHino
[[caption-width-right:252:Click [[labelnote:here]][[/labelnote]] to see Noiz as he appears in his good ending]]
A heavily-pierced young man obsessed with the virtual reality game Rhyme. Aoba first meets Noiz when the latter drags him into an impromptu Rhyme match, although Aoba is unaware of Noiz's identity at first. Noiz and Aoba properly meet after [[YourDoorWasOpen Noiz breaks into Aoba's room]] and hacks his computers. His Allmate is Pseudo Rabbit.

* [[spoiler: AbusiveParents: Instead of helping Noiz deal with his inability to feel pain, his parents locked Noiz away in a section of his house and ignored him. Noiz's parents complained about the shame Noiz had brought on them, with Noiz's dad wishing that Noiz had never been born. Within earshot of their kid.]]
** [[spoiler:In his good ending, he goes back to them and they all make amends. Noiz even agrees to take on the family business.]]
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking
* {{Badass}}: A more reserved one, given his [[TheSmartGuy status]].
* BadassInANiceSuit: [[spoiler: When he comes back after the time skip.]]
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Due to the abuse that Noiz's parents heaped on him, his lack of social skills, and now everyone else in his life used him for money or sex, Aoba is perhaps the only person who genuinely wanted to help and protect Noiz. This is one reason why Noiz starts ever-so-slowly opening up to Aoba, and eventually comes to care for him.
* BigEater: Buys a ton of food when exploring the Green Playground.
* {{Bishonen}}
* [[spoiler: BookEnds: Noiz leans across the counter and kisses Aoba suddenly at the beginning of the game, then does the same again after he reunites with him in his good ending.]]
* [[spoiler: BrainwashedAndCrazy]]: [[spoiler:Late in his route via Toue. Aoba has to use Scrap on him to snap him out of it.]]
* [[spoiler: ButNotTooForeign: His family lives in Germany, but there are no comments made during the game to suggest he's completely foreign, if at all. While the game doesn't give much information on Noiz's heritage, fandom seems to lean towards him being half-German. At the end of his route, he asks Aoba to move to Germany with him when he goes back.]]
** [[spoiler: There's a hint early on when Noiz buys food and he has no knowledge of the names of the food he bought. He ends up asking Aoba for their names and Aoba comments that it's strange he would ask about such a thing.]]
** [[spoiler: Drama CD Vol. 4 reveals that Noiz is 1/4th Japanese and that his family as well as many of their servants are fluent in the language.]]
* ButNowIMustGo: [[spoiler: Though he comes back, and the reason he left is eventually revealed.]]
* CasualKink: Aoba is pretty certain he has a pain kink. [[spoiler: Justified, once his FeelNoPain back story comes to light. He actively sought out anything that might cause him some kind of sensation. However, at the end of his route, with his ability to feel unlocked, he's definitely not put off by the idea.]]
* TheCynic: Noiz does not understand why anyone would want to help him without getting something in return. He believes people are innately selfish, and that he's perfectly capable of living on his own without the love and trust of other people. [[spoiler: This is the notion that Aoba tries to destroy in Noiz's Scrap sequence, which ends either in success or in failure.]]
* [[spoiler: DisabilitySuperpower: Kinda. With an inability to feel pain. he's a very competent fighter.]]
* EmbarrassingFirstName: [[spoiler: In Drama CD Vol. 4 after much prodding from Aoba, Noiz confesses that his birth name is Wim (which can be short for Wilhelm), but would prefer Aoba to continue calling him "Noiz".]]
* [[spoiler: FeelNoPain: Noiz is incapable of feeling pain except on his tongue. He can feel sensation on his skin, but not very well. For most of his life, he was unable to sympathize with others due to his inability to feel pain. As a consequence, he couldn't regulate his behaviour properly, leading to trouble for his parents. His parents found him annoying and left him.]]
* GeniusBruiser: He packs a mean punch ''and'' mean computer hacker skills.
* HatesBeingTouched: He's quick to pull away and snap at Aoba whenever he gets injured.
* [[SheCleansUpNicely He Cleans Up Nicely]]: [[spoiler:In his good ending, he takes out his piercings and puts on a suit, and he looks very nice indeed.]]
* KnowledgeBroker: Noiz makes a living off of sharing information, usually about Rhyme.
* LonelyRichKid: [[spoiler: He came from a wealthy family, although his parents found him a nuisance and essentially abandoned him.]]
* NoSocialSkills: Painfully justified. [[spoiler: His inability to feel pain, and parental neglect meant Noiz grew up with no basic understanding of sympathy, empathy or human interaction. When he made it to Midorijima, his social skills were only developed through Rhyme and people who were only interested in his body or money, so he developed a rather cold 'give and take' attitude towards people and social relations. When Aoba likens him to a kid, he's not far off the mark; he really is like a kid learning how to interact nicely with people for the first time.]]
* NotSoStoic: He shows confusion and surprise a few times during his route.
* [[spoiler: NowLetMeCarryYou: So appreciative of all that Aoba did for him, Noiz went back home, attempted to patch things up with his neglectful family, and took responsibility in his family's company all to ensure a happy life for Aoba. The trope is made literal when Noiz picks Aoba up and carries him out of Heibon, which is parallel to the way Aoba carried Noiz out of the collapsing Oval Tower.]]
* RedOniBlueOni: Blue to Koujaku's Red
* SharpDressedMan: In his good ending.
* SugarAndIcePersonality: Though the sugar is buried so deep beneath the ice that Aoba has to use Scrap to reach it, there is a good guy under all the reserved cynicism.
* TheStoic: Largely due to his [[FeelNoPain inability to feel anything]].
* TechnoWizard: Boy, can he hack. [[spoiler: He hacks Aoba's computer to find out more about Ren; he tracks down where Tae is being held and plays the role of support when it comes to rescuing her; hacks the security system at Oval Tower in his route, wiping all trace of him and Aoba on the floor they were on; and in the true route he hacks himself, Koujaku, Clear and Mink into a ''locked Rhyme field'' to rescue Aoba and Ren.]]
* WhatIsThisThingYouCallLove: Has never experienced a relationship where the other person isn't using him for his wealth or body. To say Aoba's no-strings-attached care and worry for him confuses the hell out of him is putting it lightly.
* [[spoiler: [[WhenSheSmiles When He Smiles]]: Aoba notices that Noiz almost looks like a different person when he finally smiles in the end. This also serves as a CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming‎.]]
* YoungerThanTheyLook: Is actually 19 years old, despite looking older. Aoba is shocked.
* YourDoorWasOpen: His first [[spoiler: non-costumed]] scene in the game. Aoba is not impressed.

-->Voiced by: Rinta Hayakawa aka Kenichirou Matsuda
[[caption-width-right:300:Click [[labelnote:here]][[/labelnote]] to see Mink as he appears in his good ending]]
A mysterious, stoic ex-con who is determined to take down Toue. His Allmate is Tori, [[spoiler: later renamed Lulakan in re:connect.]]

* ADogNamedDog: His cockatiel All-Mate is called Tori, which translates to "bird". This trope is subverted in that Mink didn't choose the name; he actually didn't bother naming his All-Mate at all. Aoba uses 'Tori' to refer to the All-Mate for lack of a better name.
** Though in Re:Connect, he finally gives Tori a proper name. [[spoiler: He's now called Lulakan.]]
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking
* {{Badass}}
** BadassBaritone: Probably has the deepest voice in the entire game, on par with Ren.
** BadassBiker
* {{Bishonen}}
* BastardBoyfriend: Throughout his route he does next-to-nothing but abuse Aoba, physically or otherwise. [[spoiler: Not to mention it was ''his'' fault Aoba was nearly gang-raped in the Common Route]].
** [[spoiler: He also rapes Aoba three times (Aoba is too intoxicated to consent the first time) during his route and beats the living crap out of Aoba when he protests.]]
** [[spoiler: However, he is much more gentle and genuine with Aoba in Re:Connect. Their relationship develops into a much healthier one, as seen in the Summer Side Story and other post-Re:Connect material, and Mink never assaults or abuses Aoba again.]]
* TheBigGuy
* BrutalHonesty: He definitely doesn't sugarcoat anything in his route, and he's quick to call Aoba out on what he considers to be a self-centered attitude with a guilt complex. [[spoiler: He's nicer about things in Re:Connect, though.]]
* [[spoiler: DeathSeeker: Mink has no intention of surviving his confrontation with Toue. He was only hanging on long enough to avenge his family. This explains why he treats everyone, including Aoba, as tools; since he was planning to commit suicide, any emotional attachments were useless.]]
** [[spoiler: Though he changes this outlook after Aoba uses Scrap on him.]]
* {{Determinator}}
* DreadlockWarrior
* EasilyForgiven: By Aoba.
* EveryoneHasStandards: He would do ''anything'' to attain his revenge, no matter how atrocious it may be. However, while having this attitude, he also makes sure that [[spoiler: nobody but Toue and him will die when it is all over.]]
* [[spoiler: ExpositoryHairstyleChange: Mink switches from the dreadlocks to a more natural, relaxed hairstyle in his good ending.]]
* [[spoiler: EyeColorChange: The final shot of Mink in his good end from the first game shows his once cold, dark blue eyes [[note]]It turns out that he was wearing a special kind of contacts in the first game to not be affected by the mind-hypnotizing lights in Platinum Jail.[[/note]] are now a much warmer and striking gold color. Aoba thinks [[WhatBeautifulEyes they're very pretty.]]]]
* FirstNameBasis: Averted. Almost everyone but Aoba has no given surname, but he never addresses anyone by their name, assigning nicknames, of a sort, to them instead (e.g. 'Red' for Koujaku, 'Gas Mask' for Clear, 'Maniac' for Noiz). [[spoiler: This is subverted in Re:Connect, when at the very end, he calls Aoba by his name for the first time.]]
* FreudianExcuse: [[spoiler: His entire clan was wiped out by Toue due to refusing to give him their tribal secret. Mink felt such deep despair over this, he focused on solely nothing but revenge on Toue, and committing suicide once he's done.]]
* HairDecorations: Wears pink feathers in his ponytail and at the ends of his braids. [[spoiler: Later the feathers are replaced with a small dream catcher.]]
* HeyYou: When Aoba tries to find out Tori's name, Tori states that Mink refers to him by 'Hey' or 'You'.
* {{Jerkass}}: Oh ''yes''. [[spoiler: Though he's undergone some CharacterDevelopment by the time Re:Connect rolls around.]]
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler: Rapes and beats Aoba, is EasilyForgiven, and shows no regret for his actions in the first game.]]
** [[spoiler: He feels deep guilt towards Aoba in Re:Connect, however. As it turned out, while he does not exactly ''regret'' it, since doing so would only set him back in his goal, it did not mean he enjoyed doing what he did either. Regardless, he ''is'' aware that his actions were horrible, hence he kept his distance from Aoba throughout almost his entire route.]]
* {{Kuudere}}: Type 1, but shows shades of Type 2. [[spoiler: Though Aoba has to struggle through ''a lot'' in his route before he gets to see the warmer side of Mink.]]
* [[LastGirlWins Last Guy Wins]]: If he's the love interest.
* MagicalNativeAmerican: Mink's aesthetic and people seem to be heavily influenced by Native Americans... and ants. Apparently only they can concoct special herbs that produce magical pheromones which force people to do their bidding.
** [[spoiler: In the Drama CD, it turns out that this is not actually the case. The herbs that Toue sought were used simply to provide a sense of tranquility, almost like a relaxant, and isn't used to control others' minds.]]
* [[spoiler: OffWithHisHead: Does this to Aoba in his bad end.]]
* OneHeadTaller: Mink easily towers over Aoba's 175 cm (5'9") with his 189 cm (6'2").
* [[spoiler: RapeAsDrama: Rapes Aoba twice in his route.]]
** By Re:Connect, [[spoiler: he deeply regrets it and is surprised Aoba doesn't hate him for it.]]
* RealMenWearPink
* ReligiousBruiser: Mink can be seen both pummeling people until their faces cave in with his bare hands and offering prayers to his people's gods.
* [[spoiler: RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Against Toue, who murdered his whole clan.]]
* SmokingIsCool: Smokes a pipe.
* TheTeamBenefactor: Mink is the main reason why Aoba and the rest of the main cast can even ''begin'' to look for Tae and Morphine near the end of the Common Route.
* TookALevelInKindness: The main element of his CharacterDevelopment in Re:Connect, and all the more apparent in the Drama CD. You wouldn't even believe that he was the same person you saw in the first game.
* TheUnfettered: His defining trait.

-->Voiced by: Sawa Manaka aka Masatomo Nakazawa
[[caption-width-right:239:Click [[labelnote:here]][[/labelnote]] to see Clear without his gas mask]]
A [[CloudCuckooLander very strange]] young man that seemingly [[CameFromTheSky falls out of the sky.]] Clear constantly wears a [[GasMaskLongCoat gas mask]] for no apparent reason and insists on calling Aoba his 'master'. Strangely, he does not have an Allmate.

* {{Adorkable}}
* [[spoiler: AIIsACrapshoot: Inverted. Clear was originally designed to subjugate the residents of Midorijima using his MagicMusic by Toue. When he was declared defective, the researcher in charge of Clear's disposal took Clear, reprogrammed him and changed his serial number. This granted Clear free will, allowing him to develop his own good-natured personality and to choose his own master, Aoba.]]
* [[spoiler: ArtificialHuman: Clear is actually an android created by Toue. He, along with the Alphas, were created as part of Toue's scheme to brainwash and control the people of Midorijima. Clear was deemed defective, however, and was slated for disposal. Clear's 'grandpa' was the person in charge of disposal, found and adopted Clear as his own.]]
* [[spoiler: AttackAttackAttack: After destroying his key lock, he beats down the Alphas mercilessly; according to Aoba, he completely foregoes defense.]]
* [[spoiler: BackFromTheDead]]
* [[spoiler: BeautyMark: Clear has two on his chin.]]
* BerserkButton: Hurting Aoba.
* {{Bishonen}}: Underneath his mask.
* BewareTheSillyOnes: Manages to beat the crap out of the hypnotized Dry Juice members while shouting 'Stop the violence!' He also manages to single-handedly take out a group of {{Yakuza}} thugs in the Platinum Jail.
* CameFromTheSky: How Aoba and Clear first meet. Clear lands in front of Aoba, having seemingly fallen from the sky, nearly giving Aoba a heart-attack.
* CloudCuckooLander: Aoba has to tell him that umbrellas can be used when it is raining. He breaks into Aoba's house by cutting the lock off of the veranda door and doesn't see a problem with entering through odd places.
* CrouchingMoronHiddenBadass
* {{Determinator}}: Throughout his route, Clear goes through extreme physical trauma, including (but not limited to) acid being thrown on him, being viciously beaten, and [[spoiler:feeling the pain of his mechanical body literally breaking from the inside out.]] And through all of this, the most he says about it is "I'm fine", and he often fights back in spite of it.
* [[spoiler: DisneyDeath: His body completely breaks down after the fight with the Alphas. Granny manages to repair him.]]
* DontLookAtMe: Is absolutely terrified that Aoba will hate him if he sees Clear's face, since he was told that his face was unlike other people's. Aoba has to reassure him multiple times that he won't hate Clear no matter what he looks like before Clear will take his mask off.
* [[spoiler: EvilAlbino: Toue intended for Clear to be this.]]
* GasMaskLongcoat: Constantly wears a gas mask for no apparent reason [[spoiler: initially]] and sports a long white coat.
* [[spoiler: GoodThingYouCanHeal: Clear suffers more physical abuse than any other character. He falls off a roof at least once; gets beaten up by yakuza members; has sulfuric acid poured onto his (masked) face, which sets his hair on fire. He isn't permanently damaged from any of these events due to his regenerating abilities. It's only when he fights the Alphas that his self-healing properties break down.]]
* [[spoiler: HeroicSacrifice: Stabs himself in the head to break Toue's control over him. Later, he breaks down completely after having sex with Aoba.]]
* {{Keigo}}
* LetsGetDangerous: Starting from when [[spoiler:yakuza try to attack Aoba in front of him]], he practically adopts this as a dogma.
* MadeOfIron: [[spoiler: Almost literally. As a super-advanced RidiculouslyHumanRobot, Clear is likely made of some other kind of metal, but he's definitely durable. He falls/jumps off roofs at least twice, gets the crap beaten out of him by yakuza members and gets sulfuric acid poured onto his face, with no lasting damage done to Clear.]]
* MagicMusic: His 'jellyfish song'. It has a calming effect on Aoba [[spoiler: and is used to counteract the Alpha's incapacitating songs in the Oval Tower.]]
* [[spoiler:MayflyDecemberRomance: The main topic of his Good ReConnect route. Both Aoba and Clear are painfully aware that Clear will live on much, much longer than Aoba. In the end, they both choose to make the most of the time they have together, day by day and not dwell on what will happen after Aoba dies.]]
* NakedApron: But with his mask still on! Aoba is ''not'' pleased.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: [[spoiler:After he takes off his gas mask]], the further his story is uncovered, the more he turns serious, and all the pity to you if you decide to mess with Aoba in any way while he's anywhere near.
* [[spoiler:PinocchioSyndrome: It's heavily implied that Clear wants to be human, but he comes to terms with never being able to be very gracefully even as he's dying, during which [[TearJerker Aoba will tell him that he's the most human person he's ever known.]]]]
* [[spoiler: RidiculouslyHumanRobots: Clear and the Alphas. Clear can cry, eat, love and appears to have a fully-functional set of sexual organs. You've gotta hand it to Toue; when they want to build an android, they do a great job of it.]]
* SingleTargetSexuality: His feelings towards Aoba fall under this, as, during his re:connect, he shoots down even the slightest possibility of ever loving anyone but Aoba in his lifetime.
* SuperSenses: His hearing is highly advanced. [[spoiler:It's the first hint that he's not a real human.]]
* ThereWasADoor: He breaks the lock on Aoba's veranda to get into his room. A little later, Aoba even [[LampshadeHanging tells him]] to come in through the door next time because breaking in through the window and [[CameFromTheSky falling from the sky]] are not normal methods of entry.
* TranquilFury: When facing down {{Yakuza}} thugs in Platinum Jail.
* UndyingLoyalty: Aoba-san is Clear's Master!
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: [[spoiler: He was originally supposed to be this, but his "grandfather" fixed him up so he would function differently from his brothers. Played straighter in his bad ending.]]
* [[spoiler: YoungerThanTheyLook: Sort of. He was created a few years before the story began.]]

Aoba's cute dog All-Mate with a [[VocalDissonance very deep voice.]]

* {{Adorkable}}: In Re:Connect, he can be this at times, especially when his past habits as a dog show, with sniffing objects and holding objects in his mouth being the primary examples.
* BadassBaritone: Which contrasts pretty sharply with his small and cuddly appearance.
* [[spoiler: BecomeARealBoy: In his route. After the Rhyme Incident, Ren started becoming an individual existence, different from Aoba. Fully completed, somehow, in the true ending, where Sei's body becomes his.]]
* BerserkButton: Just like with Koujaku and Clear, harm or insult Aoba and you ''will'' pay.
* [[spoiler: {{Bishonen}}: In his true form.]]
* NonHumanSidekick: He's a robot-dog.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter
* RobotDog
* [[spoiler: SelfCest: Since he's technically a SplitPersonality, sex between Ren and Aoba counts as this.]]
* [[spoiler: SingleTargetSexuality: Towards Aoba.]]
* [[spoiler: SplitPersonality: Started out as this. Ren was created to serve as a mediator between Aoba and his SuperPoweredEvilSide. However, he forgets this after Virus and Trip manipulate Aoba's memories, coming to believe that he was always an All-Mate.]]
* VocalDissonance: He sure has a deep voice for such a little dog. [[spoiler: It matches his humanoid form perfectly, though.]]
* [[spoiler: WalkingShirtlessScene: In the latter parts of his route, he loses his poncho. Turns out that he's shirtless underneath it, to the joy of fans everywhere.]]
* YouGottaHaveBlueHair: [[spoiler: In all of his forms.]]

[[folder: Others]]

-->Voiced by: Suga Kiya aka Creator/JunjiMajima
Virus and Trip are long-time acquaintances of Aoba, having met during Aoba's adolescence. The pair look nearly identical, causing people to assume that they are twins. Virus is more polite than Trip and appears to be the more chatty of the two.

* AlwaysIdenticalTwins: Totally subverted. He and Trip explicitly state that they are not twins. Their similar appearances are [[LampshadeHanging pointed out]] by Aoba and Koujaku.
* AlwaysVSexy
* [[spoiler: AffablyEvil: After he reveals himself to be one of the leaders of Morphine.]]
* {{Bishonen}}
* [[spoiler: BlondeGuysAreEvil: He's one of the leaders of Morphine, a gang that kidnaps other gangs and brainwashes them. In one of Ren bad endings, they kidnap Aoba and abuse him (psychologically, mentally and sexually) every day just because they think it's fun.]]
* [[spoiler: ForTheEvulz: Their primary motivation seems to be their interest in Aoba.]]
* ItIsPronouncedTroPAY: His name is actually pronounced as "Weerus".
* ItAmusedMe: His motivation for everything he do.
* {{Keigo}}
* {{Megane}}
* PunishmentBox : [[spoiler: Left Aoba in very small one for three days, because Aoba didn't want to "make a show" for him. Aoba is so traumatized by it that he's obeying every command, in fear that Virus will put him in there again.]]
* SharpDressedMan: Wears a dark-blue suit and tie.
* ShonenHair: Although not identical to Trip's hairstyle.
* [[spoiler: TheSociopath: Virus (and Trip) fit this trope to a T. Completely amoral, superfically charming, only seeking "fun and interesting things", and doing most anything they wish purely on impulse, all while being completely incapable of experiencing any sort of depth of emotion. It's all but stated within the game that they fall directly under this spectrum.]]
* SociopathicHero : [[spoiler: In Ren's good end, he and Trip save Ren from the collapsing Oval Tower and drive him to the Midorijima hospital. Partially because they thought he was Sei, partially because "they were curious" and partially because "they just felt like it"]]. Aoba is understandably confused.
* SnakesAreSexy: His Allmate is a black snake. [[spoiler: He's often using it to abuse Aoba]].
* [[spoiler: StepfordSmiler: Type B, Both Virus and Trip act and look friendly at first, but in Re:Connect, Aoba describes them as [[EmptyShell empty shells]] who manipulate people for fun.]]
* SoftSpokenSadist : Very friendly and polite, which makes him all the more terrifying.
* StoicSpectacles: While Virus isn't stoic, exactly, he is always calm and composed.
* {{Yakuza}}

-->Voiced by: Kuroi Hagane aka Tomoyuki Higuchi
Virus and Trip are long-time acquaintances of Aoba, having met during Aoba's adolescence. They are very similar in appearance, despite not actually being twins. Trip is much more casual in his speech than Virus. He calls himself and Virus 'fans' of Aoba; [[spoiler: they kidnap and [[SexSlave enslave]] Aoba instead of handing him over to Toue in Ren's bad ending.]]

* AlwaysIdenticalTwins: Subverted. Virus and Trip aren't actually twins: they have different birthdays in their intros.
* [[spoiler: AffablyEvil: After he reveals himself to be the other leader of Morphine.]]
* {{Bishonen}}
* [[spoiler: BlondeGuysAreEvil: He's one of the leaders of Morphine, a gang that kidnaps other gangs and brainwashes them.]]
* [[spoiler: ForTheEvulz: Their primary motivation seems to be interest in Aoba.]]
* ItAmusedMe: His motivation for everything they do to Aoba.
* [[spoiler: PsychopathicManchild: In Re:Connect, Aoba notes that his childlike curiosity and innocence is utterly terrifying, as it drives Trip to do things such as suffocate Aoba with sweets and call his lion Allmate over to bully and abuse him.]]
* SoftSpokenSadist : Very friendly and polite, which makes him all the more terrifying.
* SharpDressedMan: Wears a WaistcoatOfStyle, a tie and suspenders.
* ShonenHair
* [[spoiler: TheSociopath: Trip (and Virus) fit this trope to a T. Completely amoral, superfically charming, only seeking "fun and interesting things", and doing most anything they wish purely on impulse, all while being completely incapable of experiencing any sort of depth of emotion. It's all but stated within the game that they fall directly under this spectrum.]]

* [[spoiler: StepfordSmiler: Type B, Both Virus and Trip act and look friendly at first, but in Re:Connect, Aoba describes them as [[EmptyShell empty shells]] who manipulate people for fun.]]
* {{Yakuza}}

-->Voiced by: Nishino Kumi
Aoba's 'Granny', a tough, no-nonsense woman.

* [[AlmightyMom Almighty Grandma]]: Considering she can make Aoba's group (which consists of three gang leaders [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg and Clear]]) behave with a few stern words and some cuffs to the head, she definitely qualifies.
* ApronMatron: She doesn't take crap from anybody, but she's still a caring grandmother towards Aoba.
* [[spoiler: TheAtoner: Tae was a researcher whose findings were used to give Aoba and Sei their mind-control powers. However, she didn't know that her research would be used by Toue for his DesignerBabies. She felt guilty about her research being used for this purpose and took an apparently still-born Aoba away so that he could have a proper funeral.]]
* CoolOldLady: Granny can make Aoba's group of misfits behave with only a stern lecture and cuffs to the head. She also invites them to eat her delicious cooking.
* [[GoodParents Good Grandma]]: Tae is shown to be a caring (if gruff) guardian to Aoba.
* IWillWaitForYou: [[spoiler:In Aoba's scenario of ''RE:connect'', she, along with Aoba, are still waiting for Nine and Haruka to return home.]]
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Alongside Yoshie and Haga, she's one of the few adults encountered on Midorijima who isn't corrupt, evil, under mind control, or some combination therein.
* SupremeChef: According to Aoba and his friends, just about everything she makes is absolutely delicious.
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Pink Hair]]

-->Voiced by: Nanbu Tetsuyoshi

* {{BFG}}: In Noiz's route, his megaphone is able to turn into a big gun that can shoot balls of electricity
** As well as Mink's route.
* ButtMonkey: Rarely a scene with him goes by where he is not physically hurt or humiliated in some way.
* ChewingTheScenery: 99.9% of his lines are [[NoIndoorVoice shouted at the top of his lungs]]. He is also fond of elongating his WOOOOOORDS FOR NOOOOOOO REASON!
* CorruptCop: Although it should be noted that most of the police force on Midorijima are corrupt and super-violent.
* LargeHam
* NoIndoorVoice
* RedEyesTakeWarning: Gets these in Noiz's route.
* TrrrillingRrrs
* VillainousCheekbones

Aoba's boss at Heibon. He's a fairly mild-mannered and easy-going person... most of the time.

* BeautyMark: Has a fairly prominent mole on the left side of his face, right between his nose and mouth.
* BenevolentBoss: Is genuinely kind to Aoba and appreciative of the latter's help.
* BerserkButton: He doesn't like being called baldy. At all. [[BrattyHalfPint Nao, Kio and Mio]] learn this the hard way.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Along with Tae and Yoshie, Haga is one of the few trustworthy older adults in Aoba's life. The three stay behind to distract the police when Akushima shows up at Aoba's house, allowing Aoba and co. to escape.
* TranquilFury: Displays this after being called [[BerserkButton 'baldy']] by one of the kids.

!Nao, Kio and Mio
Three mischievous kids that constantly bother Aoba at Heibon.

* [[BrattyHalfPint Bratty Half Pints]]: They love popping into Heibon and wreaking havoc, much to the chagrin of Aoba and Haga.
* FlatCharacter: They don't do much in the story except provide occasional PluckyComicRelief and annoy Aoba.
* [[WomenAreWiser Girls Are More Mature]]: Mio seems to be tiring of her brother's antics near the end of Noiz's route.
* NiceHat: Nao, Kio and Mio all have cute headgear featuring animal ears of some sort.
* NoIndoorVoice: Nao and Kio.
* PointlessBandaid: They all have one; Kio on his cheek, Nao on the bridge of his nose and Mio on her forehead.
* {{Tsundere}}: Hilariously, Mio is Type A towards Noiz.
* YouthfulFreckles: Kio and Mio.

-->Voiced by: Jyou Takashi aka Kenji Takahashi
[[caption-width-right:239:Click [[labelnote:here]][[/labelnote]] to see Mizuki as he appears in Morphine]]
Aoba's old friend and leader of the gang, Dry Juice. Mizuki runs a tattoo/bar called Black Needle.

* {{Adorkable}}: He's completely flustered and embarrassed when Sly Blue kisses him in RE:Code.
* AmicableExes: [[spoiler: Not that Aoba remembers it, but RE:Code shows there was ''[[AmbiguousSituation something]]'' going on between Sly Blue and Mizuki.]]
* AscendedExtra: He gets his own route in RE:Code, with his sprite joining the rest of the guys on the main menu upon completion.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: By Morphine.
* {{Bishonen}}
* GratuitousEnglish: Dry Juice.
* MindRape: Has his mind twisted by Morphine, causing him to threaten Granny in an attempt to get Aoba to join him in Morphine. [[spoiler: Aoba also subjects Mizuki to this, albeit accidentally.]]
* ParentalAbandonment: [[spoiler: As a baby, he was abandoned by his birth parents in front of a hospital and was later adopted by a nice couple.]]
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler: The poor guy's mind breaks after Aoba accidentally uses Scrap incorrectly on Mizuki. He ends up spending the rest of the game in the hospital.]]
** [[spoiler:RE:connect shows that Mizuki was (miraculously) able to regain his sanity, much to this troper's relief.]]
* StepfordSmiler: Type A. Whenever he talks to Aoba, Mizuki is usually fairly cheerful. He is actually hiding his worries about the growing popularity of Rhyme and the amount of people leaving Dry Juice and Rib.

The main antagonist. Calm, collected, and charismatic, Toue is the head of his own self-titled corporation and the owner of Platinum Jail.

* ClassyCravat
* CorruptCorporateExecutive
* BigBad: Was anyone really surprised?
* [[spoiler:GracefulLoser: Is surprisingly this when Aoba defeats him in Rhyme in the true ending; he takes Aoba's victory as a sign that his plans ultimately weren't destined to work and exits stage left to let Aoba meet Sei.]]
* HighClassGlass
* SharpDressedMan

-->Voiced by: Yuuichi Iguchi
[[caption-width-right:317:Click [[labelnote:here]][[/labelnote]] to see Sei]]
* [[spoiler:ArtificialHuman]]
* {{Bishonen}}
* [[spoiler: DeathSeeker: After having been experimented on for years by Toue, Sei reaches out to Aoba so that the latter can "release" him.]]
* [[spoiler: DesignerBabies: He and Aoba were genetically engineered by Toue.]]
* [[spoiler: {{Determinator}}: Is this when it comes to his wish to be "destroyed" by Aoba - Sei is very persistent in trying to reach out to his brother and make him come to Oval Tower.]]
* FingerlessGloves
* [[spoiler: FriendToAllLivingThings: Implied in the ending image as the Allmates seem to love him.]]
* [[spoiler: HypnoticEyes: Being Aoba's twin, Sei seems to have pretty much the same mind-controlling abilities, but uses his eyes instead of voice.]]
* [[spoiler: IllBoy: Because of Toue's experiments Sei is very weak, can hardly move and has a serious heart condition.]]
* [[spoiler: LongLostRelative: Sei is Aoba's twin brother, who was SeparatedAtBirth and raised by Toue.]]
* MeaningfulName: "Sei" is a homophone of the word that mean "life" [[spoiler:which reflects his power.]] It's also [[spoiler:homophone with the kanji of "blue" as in "Ao".]]
* [[spoiler: MultiArmedAndDangerous: Usui, who was created with a part of Sei's consciousness, has ten arms and is extremely powerful in Rhyme.]]
* NiceHat: He wears a black fedora [[spoiler:with a Morphine pin on it.]]
* [[spoiler: PhlebotinumRebel: Toue probably didn't expect Sei to destroy ''the entire damn tower'' with the help of his ability - which he holds because of being genetically engineered that way for Toue's own needs.]]
* {{Transsexual}}: Possibly. [[spoiler: Sei's mind in the form of Usui is female, and Toue dressed Sei in women's clothing.]]
* TroubledFetalPosition: Is in this pose when Aoba first encounters him, [[spoiler:although it was later revealed that it was not Sei in the flesh but one of his consciousnesses.]]
* [[spoiler: VirtualGhost: In Ren's good ending, it seems that Sei or a part of his consciousness still exists in the network even a year after his death.]]
* WalkingSpoiler: He only shows up in the Secret Character Route. Just about every trope associated with him is a spoiler.

!Nine and Haruka Seragaki
Aoba's parents. [[spoiler: They adopted little Aoba after Nine saw him on the beach.]]

* {{Bishonen}}: Nain
* BareYourMidriff: Haruka
* IWillWaitForYou: [[spoiler:Aoba and Tae are still waiting for them to return home.]]
* RapunzelHair: Haruka's ponytail reaches down to her thighs.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: While Nain is commonly used, the translation calls him Nine.
* [[YouGottaHaveBlueHair You Gotta Have Pink and Red Hair]]
* ZettaiRyouiki: Haruka
